hello!!! i hope you enjoy 💙 this scene came into my head and wouldn’t leave me alone!

Nile knows by now the secret to not getting jet lag is to stay awake, but that sure as shit doesn’t make it easy. Her eyes keep closing against her will and her head is actually nodding.

On her left, Quỳnh is fast asleep against Andy’s shoulder. On her right at the far edge of the row, Nicky is asleep with his head on the tray table, but Joe’s still awake, focused intently on whatever he’s reading. Like he can hear Nile thinking, he looks up from his book and flashes Nile a smile.

“You should get some rest.”

Nile shrugs. “It’s better to stay awake.”

Joe raises an eyebrow. “If you say so.”

Nile’s too tired to debate it, so she just nods and leans over, propping her chin on her hand. That’s her mistake.

Her eyes close, and when she jolts awake, she realizes she’s fallen entirely over with her head in Joe’s lap. He’s still reading and absentmindedly stroking over her braids with one hand. Nile has no idea how long she’s been out for. She only wakes up because she hears Joe murmuring to the flight attendant, telling her that Nile’s still asleep and that he doesn’t need anything.

It’s considerate. Something about it makes Nile’s heart ache.

Once the flight attendant is gone, Nile tries to push herself up on her elbows, but she gets too lightheaded and flops back down. Joe looks down at her.

“Go back to sleep, Nile. I’ll stay up.”

Nile doesn’t think she’s protective. She’s never been so protective that it interferes with her sleep. It’s just that as soon as he says it, the last bit of tension leaves her body, and before she knows it, she’s curled up entirely on her side and pressed her face more firmly into the fabric of his jeans. She feels him begin drawing circles on the back of her neck and hums happily before she can help herself.

“You can go to sleep,” Joe says again, and she does.

Everything that happened next came in time with the beats of Jason’s heart. Thump. Kyle’s hands planted into Jason’s shoulders and he shoved, leaping off the counter in one smooth movement. Thump. They toppled to the ground in a tangle of limbs, Jason’s hands instinctively rising to Kyle’s hips to steady him. Thump. The glass of the window shattered inward. Thump. One, two, three, four people in black swarmed inside, curved swords gleaming in the light.

i wish you would write a fic where quynh makes a home with andy when she comes back, finds a place she's comfortable enough to call home with her family. alternatively, a drawing of nile and her family

ooohhh em i feel like you just read my mind i have a draft that is literally about that where quynh heals with andy and the family and grows into the new family after 500 years of trauma (it sounds fluffy but it has angst it's literally just a draft with bulletpoints tho)

and regarding the art i have a wip of nile's sketchbook where she sketches her family imagining how they'd look as they get older and a little sketch of how she'd look with wrinkles and laugh lines

for the prompt asks: maybe something where nile and andy are trying to pull off a dangerous stunt together? either for fun or for a real mission they're doing

“This is stupid,” Nile says. She peers off the edge. “That’s practically vertical.”

“Not vertical.” Andy demonstrates the grade of the slope with her hand. It’s about 10 degrees off from vertical. “See?”

“Why are we doing this again?”

“To get back to the road for the bus.”

“But why,” Nile says. She looks down again. It doesn’t look any less intimidating.

“It’s a good skill to have. You’ll have to run off a cliff at some point, it’s just inevitable. Better to practice it now.”

“I guess,” Nile says doubtfully.

The side of the mountain is steep, and very, very long. It’s far higher than any mortal person would go. Nile sees people hiking in the gully below and they look way too small. She doesn’t want to go hurtling off the mountain towards them.

“Do you want me to hold your hand?”

Nile shakes her head. “I’ll be okay. I probably need my hands for balance anyway.”

“It’ll be fine once your instincts kick in,” Andy says. Nile’s instincts are currently telling her to turn around and walk back down the way they came. “I’ll count down.”

Nile steps off and onto the mountainside on “two”.

The first few steps are okay. They’re steep but Nile’s still in control. Then, gravity takes over, and her steps get faster and faster, her feet scrambling to keep up with the rest of her. She hears rocks sliding around her, but they’re just gravel, so she’s not too worried.

She hears a whoop and she sees Andy, running full tilt down the mountainside. She’s managed to figure out how to go slightly sideways, which seems to be stabilizing her. Nile tries to turn and almost trips, so she keeps going down forwards.

It is fun, after she gets her bearings. The adrenaline rush is enormous, which explains why Andy likes it so much. Andy waves at her.

Nile waves back, and then her foot slips out from under her and she goes down, hard. She lands on her ass and it’s not enough to stop her from continuing downhill. It does, however, slow her down enough that she sees the ledge that she’s about to go off of right before it happens.

She lands on the ground, directly on top of her arm, and she groans. She feels it snap under the pressure.

She sees Andy scrambling over to her, despite the laws of gravity, and she comes to pull Nile to her feet.

“Ready to keep going?”

Nile flexes her fingers and feels her elbow pop back into place.

“You’re right,” she says. “It is fun.”

Andy beams. This time, she takes Nile’s hand, and they both head off together.

thanks emyr!! please imagine me rubbing my hands together with evil glee. ***trigger warning for suicidal ideation, death, and trauma, and spoilers for the suicide squad (2021) and in the flesh.

top 5 ways to wrest anguish from abner krill:

one of those "villain mind powers puts heroes in their worst nightmare scenarios" except the worst nightmare scenario is literally just his childhood in the lab with his mom. grown-up abner screams, cries, curls up into the fetal position to try to block out the noises of his siblings screaming.

on that note, shapeshifting antagonist transforms into abner's mom OR makes his teammates look like his mom and he goes ballistic and just starts melting the people he loves <3 he's so op none of them have a defense against him. max angst!!!

put him back in a lab as an adult. maybe waller or the US government is experimenting on him to recreate the polka-dot disorder or enter the polka-dot dimension. that man is a lab rat, put him back in a cage <3

i saw something like this in a fic once i think ?? but i only read the description so idk what the specifics were. concept: an AU where abner actually teams up with starro in the suicide squad. maybe there's a psychic link there where they can communicate, maybe he's just disposed to be sympathetic towards this other being imprisoned in a cage and experimented on. he participates in the mass murder of corto maltese and also kills his former teammates. this is more about MY emotional anguish, but then also consider: at some point after it's all over, abner gets the chance to look into an alternate world where he didn't go down this path, and sees how he could've found a family with those people he so callously disintegrated. anguish and despair!

a slightly quieter one, but honestly you could have the entire TSS just slightly to the left and end up with a horrible end for abner in any other way: he chooses to run and gets his head blown off by waller, or he stays but is too cowardly to actually fight starro--thus missing out on being a hero. give him an ignoble end, no emotional catharsis, and he abandoned his team when they needed him most.

so to sum up really you can squeeze a lot of angst out of his relationship with his mom and his team because at the center of abner krill is a vast consuming hole of loneliness and self-loathing. yay!

okay, now for simon:

he actually goes through with killing kieren honestly would be number one! he's so torn between loving kieren and needing to hold true to his conviction that the second rising is necessary and good. in the show obviously he chooses kieren because... that's the kind of show it is... but if a few things had happened differently (kieren rejected him, for instance?) things could've been very different.

a riff on the above: he attempts to kill kieren and kieren is able to fight and stop him, but forever after that rejects him. simon's right back where he started, a radical who wants to change the world through fire and brimstone, in the throes of utter loneliness and lacking all sense of self apart from his mission.

look, we all know he murdered his mom while as a zombie, which is angsty enough to begin with. what if he gets force-fed blue oblivion (or better yet, has to take it as a show of loyalty to the prophet?) and goes on another spree and hurts or kills his dad too? lol.

a riff on the above: same scenario with the drug but he ends up hurting/killing someone close to kieren, like his parents. idk i just think the tension between simon's loyalty to the prophet and simon's love for kieren is so delicious.

imho the way the show uses blue oblivion didn't reach its full potential, as it seemed to crop up as something the PSD sufferers don't really want to do unless they already have a desire to hurt humans (or at least no qualms about it); i would've liked to see a new version of blue oblivion released that is actually so addictive to them that simon starts using as in small doses a coping mechanism, but he always locks himself up so he doesn't harm people. of course this goes sideways and he ends up harming people and blaming himself.

........so to sum up really you can squeeze a lot of angst out of his relationship with his parents and loyalty to the prophet and/or kieren because at the center of simon monroe is also a vast consuming hole of loneliness and self-loathing. yay?
