I love the Backrooms, but living rurally for a year has made me think about the Backroads. Anyone who’s lived in a prairie setting knows what I’m talking about. Straight gravel roads that seem to go on forever, perfectly perpendicular intersections with no street signs, the constant hissing sound of the wind rippling through the grass interrupted only by the crunching of the gravel beneath your feet. No landmarks, just endless flat fields in every directions, not even any clouds in the sky.

The figure on the horizon is so far away you can’t tell if it’s walking away from or toward you but you’d better hope it doesn’t get close enough for you to see its face
