BORDERLANDS COLLEGE AU

Stupid idea I had a few nights ago, don't think too hard about the inconsistencies in ages and stuff. Probably just doing Vault Hunters and a few other characters.

ROLAND

Majoring in cybersecurity. Good student, studies and gets consistently high grades. Has a well-formulated meal and workout plan. Also an RA on campus. Roland is the guy you go to if you have issues. He might not be great at "talking you through them" or "showing empathy" but he always has solid advice and is well-respected by his peers.

BRICK

I was going to say "Brick wouldn't go to college in canon" but this isn't canon babeyyyy. Brick is going into veterinary medicine. You may think this is completely off as a major for him, but I argue that his love for dogs is far greater than any challenge he may face in his education. Still a gym maniac. Roland is his RA, which means Roland is in charge of calming Brick down when he gets mad. Dating Mordecai. Also, unrelated but Brick in a philosophy class:

"Brick, can you tell us what you think about what Descartes said?"

"I PUNCH Descartes."

LILITH

Y'all are going to hate me for this but Lilith is a chemistry major. Girl loves fire, electricity, and acid so you can't tell me she wouldn't be a menace in her labs. (Also, before the first game was released her full title was "Dr. Lilith Cashlin, Mercenary Scientist") Only goes to class half the time but still does really well. Rooms with Mordecai and Brick. Huge crush on this RA she keeps seeing around

MORDECAI

BIRD MAAAAAN. Y'all already know this guy is doing two things on campus. 1) Majoring in Ornithology 2) Going to parties to get drunk. This man is the epitome of "college is for partying". Keeps birds in campus (not allowed) and is doing okay in his classes (he is hung over 80% of the time) (Mordy pls) Dating Brick.

PATRICIA TANNIS

Honestly, what field of science ISN'T this girl majoring in? She's insane(ly smart) and constantly gets perfect scores on all of her exams. Closest friends are Roland and the gang.

MARCUS

Why is he here??? What??? Marcus is the guy who runs the restaurant that is directly across the street from campus. *Phenomenal* food, but GOD is it pricey. Tends to not care about many of the students chilling (as long as they BUY SOMETHING)

SCOOTER

Doesn't go to this college but he's good friends with Roland and his pals. Likes to go out drinking with them on the weekends and is just all-in-all a cool guy to hang around with. Friends with Janey.

AXTON

BMOC. Captain of the football team. You can trust him! (He's the water boy.) Total jock but he's not an asshole about it. Majoring in Rehabilitation Science. He's... not the *best* student, but he does try and genuinely care about what he wants to do. Lives with Salvador, Maya, and Zer0 in a dorm.

SALVADOR

Culinary major. My man can COOK. He's the best cook in the dorm and no one will ever argue if he offers to cook. Really good student even though he parties all the time with Mordecai, Brick, and Axton. Lives with Maya, Axton, and Zer0.

ZER0

*Insert weeb joke here* They're a literature major. Not just because of the haiku, either. I feel like Zer0 would be fantastic in literature courses and understanding thr deeper meanings in texts. They are seen as a "weird kid" on campus. They do not care. Lives with Maya, Salvador, and Axton.

MAYA

The reason I made this list (big surprise, V does a huge post and it's Maya's fault), Maya majors in entomology. (S/O to @forbiddenpurplesoda for this because I've always thought Maya would be a bug girl) Maya is a phenomenal student and she always gets great marks in her studies. Lives with Axton, Sal and Zer0. Has at least one pet beetle that makes Axton panic.

GAIGE

Mechanical Engineering/Robotics major. Obviously built Deathtrap as a buddy because she felt a little lonely in her dorm. Calls her Dad every night. Has a huge crush on a girl in one of her math classes. Lives with...

KRIEG!!!!

Listen. Listen. Krieg majors in psychology. The *actual* football captain. Doesn't talk much and when he does, it's complete nonsense. (Everyone just goes "haha classic Krieg") Gaige gets along with him extremely well. Maya and him have a thing where they will just look at each other and think "holy shit they're so gorgeous). Always wears a face mask.

TINA

Child prodigy chemistry major, buddies with Lilith and Roland. But seriously, who let this kid in the lab? Like, okay, yeah, she knows what she's doing, but what she's doing is COMBUSTION REACTIONS. How is she still in school.

ELLIE

Engineering major. Lives in the building across from Roland and the gang. Absolute sweetheart and huge flirt but will also drop you on her ass if you threaten her friends.

MOXXI

I could see Moxxi as a professor of engineering, actually. Every student thinks she's gorgeous and she's learned to ignore it. Scooter and Ellie's Mom. Thinks their friends are funny.

HANDSOME JACK

Oh man, this one was tough. I decided on absolute tool you meet in college who's the head of a frat and thinks he's God's gift to women. Lives in the same building as Roland, Lilith, Brick, Mordecai, Salvador, Axton, Maya, Zer0, Gaige, and Krieg. Constantly getting into arguments with... basically everyone listed above. Majors in business.

ANGEL

She's an art major!!! She's super intelligent and aces all of her classes but she absolutely loves art. Jack is her brother in this AU. Has a crush on the cute punk girl in her math class but could never tell her. Lives in a single.

ALISTAIR HAMMERLOCK

Double majors in conservation biology and zoology! Finds the creatures that he studies absolutely fascinating and always has a bright disposition on his face. Lives in a single that looks exactly like you think it does (his room on Sanctuary III). Strained relationship with his sister.

ATHENA

Acient History Major, specifically interested in Ancient Greece (wonder why?). Works at Marcus' restaurant. Hates it. Pay her more. Has her eyes on a girl that frequents Marcus' restaurant. Tried to live with Wilhelm, Jack, Nisha, Timothy, and Claptrap for a semester, she is now a commuter. Still friends with Timothy.

WILHELM

Jack's second-in-command. People look at him like he's a dumbass, big hunk of meat, but he's also in a robotics major. Aside from being buddies with Jack, he's... kind of chill? Man likes what he likes and he works out pretty often. Boxes in his free time. Lives with Nisha, Jack, Timothy, and (formerly) Claptrap.

NISHA

Criminal justice major, naturally. Jack's girlfriend and the baddest and scariest bitch on campus. Likes watching old western movies. Never, ever shows up to class but still passes. No one knows how. Lives with Jack, Timothy, Wilhelm, and (formerly) Claptrap

CLAPTRAP

Theater major! Always has a smile on his face, even though he's nooooot very well-liked. Tried to get in with the popular guys but eventually figured out he was being used. He confronted Jack and Jack kicked him out of the dorm 😔 Lives... well, he kind of just lives around Roland's dorm. Roland's too nice to say no.

TIMOTHY

I feel like Tim would be a Biology major. I don't know why but I can see him in that field. Looks SCARILY similar to Jack, and hates this. Unfortunately put into a room with Jack, Wilhelm, Nisha, and (formerly) Claptrap. Misses Athena greatly and wishes she still lived on campus. They're still good friends.

AURELIA HAMMERLOCK

Oh good lord, who let her on a college campus. Has an extravagant single room because she's *rich* and she's not sharing with someone else are you insane? Studies law because this bitch wants to be a judge someday. Absolutely hates to be seen with her brother Alistair. Rivalry with another rich law student makes this even more tense.

JANEY SPRINGS

Doesn't go to this college but she knows a few people around campus and hits up Marcus' restaurant for a bite to eat every so often. The food is just so good, right? No other reason. None at all. Friends with Scooter.

RHYS STRONGFOK

Rhys is a business and economics major. Is in Jack's frat. Is getting increasingly sick of Jack's shit. Buddy buddy with Vaughn, Fiona, and Zer0. Dating Sasha.

VAUGHN

Accounting major. Man has a mind like a steel trap, and also enjoys bodybuilding. Best friends with Rhys, good friends with Fiona and Sasha.

FIONA

I genuinely feel like Fiona would be a nursing or Healthcare major. I have no basis for this, it just feels right for her. Hates Jack and keeps telling Rhys to tell him to fuck off. Friends with Rhys and Vaughn, Sasha's older sister.

SASHA

Social work major! Loves helping people and wants to make a change in the world after she and Fiona grew up in less-than-ideal circumstances. Dating Rhys, also keeps telling Rhys to get away from Jack. Friends with Vaughn.

MOZE

Transfer student. Served in the military for a while before deciding she wanted to go to college. Undecided major but she's just trying to focus on the pretty women I mean her grades haha am I right? ALWAYS at Marcus'. Always. Lives with Zane, Amara, and FL4K.

FL4K

FL4K has Mr. Chew, Broodless and Meat-Thief as emotional support animals. I can see FL4K as a double major in zoology and veterinary medicine. Loves their pets. Super chill unless you speak badly about them or their pets. Will shank a bitch. Lives with Zane, Moze, and Amara.

AMARA

Healthcare studies major, with a focus on pathology. Also a bodybuilder. Also a boxer. Amara is that girl and she knows it. Always asking Moze to work out with her and she is completely oblivious to Moze being head over heels. Will fight someone being mean to a customer service worker. Lives with Zane, Moze, and FL4K.

ZANE

Pop pop went back to college! No but in this AU Zane is probably older than everyone but not that much older. His major was tough for me, but I honestly think he'd be a good candidate for a major in rehabilitation science with Axton. Also LOVES parties.

WAINWRIGHT JAKOBS

His Father wanted him to go into Business to take over the family legacy but he decided to go into law to "protect the little guy". Has daily arguments with this stuck-up, pretentious "harpy" that's in most of his classes. She's awful. Has a crush on this well-spoken man in zoological studies. At least that will take his mind off of the harpy.

TROY CALYPSO

Troy is a media and communications major. Has a fantastic time making videos and being admin of many social media pages but doesn't do very well in class because he dislikes most of his professors. Has a very close relationship with his sister, Tyreen.

TYREEN CALYPSO

Double major in Art History and Theater. Loves to be the center of attention and often stars in her brother's videos and projects. She loves it. A little full of herself. Close with her brother, Troy.

TYPHON DELEON

OKAY WAIT WAIT DON'T CLOSE THE POST HEAR ME OUT.

Cringe boomer history professor that can be easily distracted by him telling his stories of his many adventures (no one knows if they're true or not). Troy and Tyreen's Father. NOT a piss poor Dad in this AU, just embarrassing as all hell. Pretty decent guy but he's okay as a professor. (Please guys let me have my "Typhon is a good cringe embarrassing boomer dad to the Calypsos" AU)

Vault Hunter Olympics: Which playable character, across all 4 titles, is the best in each statistic?

Assumptions:

No class mods or other specific equipment were considered- characters were assessed purely on their skill trees.

The fourth trees were considered for the BL3 characters.

Characters are assumed to be operating under ideal, but plausible, conditions. For instance, Aurelia’s gun damage assumes she is using a cryo sniper rifle of blue or higher rarity, Krieg is on fire, Moze and Timothy are assumed to be equipping the same manufacturer in all possible slots for their respective ‘matched set’ bonuses, Kill skills for all characters are assumed to be active etc.

If a character has a conditional maximum statistic that requires either a very high skill ceiling to attain (Aurelia and Zer0) or relies on random chance (Claptrap), it will be noted in their entry.

Borderlands (Original)

Brick: Second Highest Maximum Health (60%)

Roland: Normally has the third highest magazine size (105%), though falls behind Claptrap if Claptrap’s action skill is Gun Wizard.

Lilith and Mordecai, sadly, don’t boast any particularly impressive stats when compared against their newer counterparts.

Borderlands 2

Axton: Second fastest aim speed (70%) and tied for second highest status effect duration reduction (40%). Third greatest recoil reduction (115%) and third shortest shield recharge delay (120%).

Gaige: Fastest shield recharge rate (194%). Second highest gun damage (715%), when Aurelia and Zero’s high skill ceiling gun damages and Claptrap’s random one is not considered. Lowest possible accuracy at -700%.

Krieg: The highest elemental effect chance (200%) and largest magazine size (350%). The second highest melee damage (1395%) and second fastest reload speed (285%). The third most resistant to damage (150%), third highest swap speed (150%), and the third highest elemental effect damage (110%). Lowest possible critical hit damage (-25%) and longest possible shield recharge delay (Adding a flat 7.5 seconds to his delay)

Salvador: Second most resistant to damage (320%) and tied for second highest status effect duration reduction (40%). The third fastest (80%).

Zer0: Highest melee damage (3370%) and gun damage (1090%), though his peak gun damage requires near-perfect accuracy sustained over a long play period. Otherwise, his gun damage, while respectable, does not place. Second most accurate (130%) and second highest critical hit damage (375%).

Maya, while a strong all-rounder, does not place especially highly in any specific category.

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel!

Athena: Highest elemental effect damage (280%), fastest swap speed (280%), and highest grenade damage (280%). Tied for second highest elemental effect chance (100%). Second fastest fire rate (240%), but falls to third when considering Claptrap if he’s lucky enough for either the Gun Wizard action skill or the All The Guns subroutine to trigger.

Aurelia: Fastest aim speed (100%) and lowest shield recharge delay (235%). Second highest elemental effect damage (130%). The third most accurate (125%) and third highest critical hit damage (195%). Third highest possible gun damage (765%), though like Zer0, her peak is demanding to achieve for most players for the same reason. Without skilled play, her gun damage does not place. Smallest possible magazine size at -75%. Lowest possible gun damage at -5% modifier when using green or white guns.

Claptrap: Highest maximum health (130% normally, ramped up to 235% if the Safety First subroutine activates). Has the highest possible health regeneration at 45.5% if the Safety First subroutine activates, but normally has the second highest at 38%. Fastest possible fire rate at 335%, but requires both the Gun Wizard action skill and the All the Guns subroutine to trigger at the same time to achieve. Even without random skills, still has the third highest fire rate at 210%. When random chance and high skill ceiling gun damage values are omitted, Claptrap has the highest gun damage at 735%. Accounting for random chance and high skill, he comes second at 1028%, assuming his Mechromagician action skill and All the Guns subroutine trigger at the same time. If the Safety First subroutine is active, ties for second highest shield capacity with 120%. If the Gun Wizard action skill, has the third highest magazine capacity at 110%. If the Gun Wizard or Funzerker action skills trigger while his All the Guns subroutine is active, has the third fastest reload speed at 215%

Nisha: Fastest reload speed by a mile (640%). The third highest melee damage (1315%).

Timothy: Typically has the fastest fire rate (248%) and health regeneration (40%), though comes in second if Claptrap gets lucky with action skills/subroutines. Third highest shield capacity (80%).

Wilhelm: The most resistant to damage (500%). Second fastest shield recharge rate (170%). Third highest maximum health (55%).

Borderlands 3

Amara: Second fastest movement speed (134%), second fastest swap speed (196%), and the second shortest shield recharge delay (200%). Third highest grenade damage (153%) and typically has third fastest reload speed (189%), falling to fourth when Claptrap having a favourable combination of action skills/subroutines.

FL4K: Fastest action skill cooldown (350%) and highest critical hit damage (505.25%). Second highest grenade damage (227.05%) and recoil reduction (158.29%). Tied for second highest shield capacity (120%). Third highest health regeneration (35.4%) and shield recharge rate (83%).

Moze: Highest Shield capacity (290%). Tied for highest elemental effect chance (100%). Second largest magazine size (115%). Third fastest action skill cooldown (180%). Lowest possible maximum health (-60% modifier) .

Zane: The fastest (140%) and most accurate (443%) with the greatest recoil reduction (424%). Highest status effect duration reduction (50%). Second fastest action skill cooldown (218.5%). Normally has the third highest gun damage at 673%, but falls off the damage rankings when compared to Aurelia, Claptrap, and Zer0′s less likely, but still possible, peak performances.

For a school assignment, I'm assembling an anthology around the theme of queer divinity and desire, but I'm having a hard time finding a fitting essay/article (no access to real academic catalogues :/ ), do you know of any essays around this theme?

Unhinged Temeraire predictions based on having only read In His Majesty's Service:

Temeraire's Symphony No. 1

Temeraire and Tchaikovsky are going to become best fucking friends mostly based on their shared opinions that artillery belongs in a proper percussion section.

Laurence and Temeraire are DEFINITELY going to mutiny at some point.

Temeraire learns to sing and Lawrence is very soft about it.

At some point in the next 2-3 books, Lawrence will realize he has acquired an entire daughter without intending to. Temeraire and Roland are only surprised it took him so long to notice.

I'm not entirely certain that Temeraire will ever call Lawrence Will, but if he does I will disintegrate.

The Chinese government gets involved.

THEORY: Twilight's Real Name?

I personally headcanon that Twilight's real name is Rollo (in Japanese, it's written ロロ).

It follows Endo's naming convention for all of Twilight's aliases starting with that Lo/Ro/ロ sound (Roland, Lionel, Lawrence, Robert).

It's got German origin and seems fitting since it means "wolf" (alluding to Twilight and his "lone wolf" persona). -> Taken from https://nameberry.com/babyname/rollo [Meaning: From the name hrodwulf from the Germanic hrod, meaning "fame" and wulf, meaning "wolf".] Funny since Twilight is this (in)famous lone wolf spy 😂

[SPOILERS FOR CH. 62]

Then in chapter 62.3 when he reunites with his friends, someone else calls him by his alias "Roland" and his childhood friend says, "Roland? But your name's [redacted]." To which he replies, "Oh...that's just a nickname."

Rollo/Rolo is a common nickname for Roland.

Laurence analysis under the cut:

• first instinct for Lawrence was Ravenclaw/Gryffindor. I thought 'that man will be himself if it kills him' (ran away twice to join the navy), a sure sign of a Lion Secondary, and he relies heavily on Structures of right and wrong, a Bird Primary trait.

But then I thought about it. Bird Primaries are relatively okay with what they believe in being disproved. They don't like it, but if they find they have to modify or replace some of the moral or philosophical structures they rely on, they're going to be glad to have learned better much sooner than another Primary would.

Lion Primaries though...they carry their beliefs deep in their hearts, and attacks on those beliefs feel, to them, like attacks on their hearts. When Laurence discovers that something he believes is morally wrong, the most positive reaction he ever has is grief. To truly excise something rotten that Laurence believes, you have to cut him open.

As for the good, he feels incredibly guilty for abandoning his Bird structures, but not as guilty as he does when he realizes he's not doing what he knows in his heart to be right.

With his secondary, it's not so much that Laurence will be himself if it kills him, but that he believes in Showing Up no matter what. He's going to be there doing something, no matter where "there" is--he holds himself and those around him to that standard. That's Badger Sec! As a result, Badger Secondaries tend to attract people resources --both allies and enemies. Badgers do this mostly without noticing. If that's not Laurence...

Ok so here's a funner theory from these past chapters.

So we don't know Twilights real name. Unless Endo actually made his name [CENSOR BAR], in which case, how do you pronounce that.

Most of Twilights aliases start with the Japanese katakana "ro" (ロ): we have Loid (ロイド, Roido); Robert (ロバート, Robāto); Lawrence (ローレンス, Rōrensu); and Roland (ローランド, Rōrando). The only exceptions are Lionel, which in Japanese still starts with an R (ライオネル, Raioneru) and Twain Foney, which was chosen by Fiona.

So his name likely starts with an "Ro" syllable. And it has to be something that could easily be corrupted into/from "Roland", as he claims "it" (either "Roland" or his real name) is a nickname to his friends.

The original post I saw discussing this theory said they think his name is "Rollo" (I'm sorry I can't link, I can't remember their url), which would be spelled ロロ. And I would laugh very hard if Yuri got the closest to getting the true name of the elusive spy, Twilight: Loi-Loi (ロイ- ロイ). Yuri really is a prodigy SSS member.

Okay, not gonna lie, this is exact type of thing I'd expect from Endo, I absolutely will integrate this into my beliefs.

Considering the setplace of the story is Germany, I think more probable names would be either Lorenz, which is the language's version of Laurence, or maybe Lothar, which has the meaning "famous army", but even the name Ludolf would work in this case. If the name was supposed to be starting with R then it could be Roger.

sending this ask is like hand-feeding me crack cocaine. I WILL utilize this invitation i will tell you this man’s fucking life now. under the cut because this gets extremely long but tl;dr for anyone else: Igsi is my angry dog coded character who hates authority and will NOT respect gods (even though he ends up dating one)

OKAY so to start off. Igsivalitaq “Igsi” Anderson is a guy from my original story Ittuatuq and I’ve written a few things for it but I never actually wrote anything with him, though I should Really Change That. he’s one of the main antagonists in the second book/season (I section off Ittuatuq into books/seasons cuz im insane), but over time he becomes part of the main protagonist cast instead.

so, backstory: Igsi grew up in Iqaluit, Nunavut. He lives with his mother and father, but also an anthropologist named Roland Lawrence who’s lived there most of Igsi’s life(not important now but later), and as he grew up he started getting into trouble with authority, even at a young age. at first it started with petty domestic stuff, like acting out for attention at home or teasing classmates, but over time it started really escalating into getting into trouble with the law with crimes like theft, trespassing, underage drinking cuz of good ol undiagnosed mental illness. he specifically starts running into trouble with one RCMP officer in particular, Officer Nakasuk.

so, Igsi obviously starts to form a grudge against him, and he starts to repeatedly antagonize the Officer specifically. in turn, the Officer and Igsi’s parents set him up with the Officer’s mother, who we just call Mentor. the Mentor starts Igsi on a very spiritual path towards healing and also lowkey teaching him about being a whole ass angakkuq in the hopes that this makes him stop being such a troubled kid. and while Igsi does actually get very, very interested in traditional spirituality and does end up liking the mentor and wanting to be a full-fledged angakkuq, his troubles with the law still get worse.

this all REALLY comes to a head just after he turns 18. the night Igsi gets released after a gruelling inpatient treatment that really left him frustrated, he and the Officer really come to a head. theyre alone and it’s a dark winter so they’re really saying like the shittiest things possible. one thing leads to another, Officer Nakasuk threatens Igsi with a stun gun, Igsi’s frustrations of being treated like shit for his entire life for things he never got Actual help for while being consistently incarcerated by the people who have authority over him finally overflows, and… oops! Igsi utilizes his angakkuq power andddd the Officer is dead.

THIS is where the dog coding really kicks in because it’s like. oh my god, he killed a person. he has fought and injured people, yes, but he has never actually killed someone. and he’s an adult, there is no juvie waiting for him, its Real Prison, and while he has hated the Officer for breaking his community apart, he’s still law enforcement. this shit is going to ruin him. so… he runs! he runs away with practically zero preparation, into the very dangerous tundra wilderness in the dead of winter. and he essentially just becomes a stray dog, living on scraps while a part of him desperately wishes he could return home and curl up in the lap of his parents, but he KNOWS he can’t do that.

but at the same time he refuses to believe that what he did was wrong. that he’s done what should have been done long ago, that he DESERVED to bite the way he did, because goddamn it, he was horribly oppressed by a system that was created to subjugate people like him, and he will never be the boy he was again, and isnt that enough to prove it was worth it? its during this exile that he really feels dejected by the entire world, from controlling human society and uncaring spiritual society, that he’s like Fuck it, whatever happens to me, i dont care, i will never follow anyone’s orders ever again.

anyway. hes about to die in the tundra due to hypothermia (lmao) when he encounters a spirit made of flame. this spirit is a tuurngaq, an auxiliary spirit that angakkuit can bond their souls to and gain extraordinary power, named Paliq. Paliq is a whole other can of worms lol but essentially, the two of them have very similar ideals in regards to authority and being controlled, so they make a deal: they can bond, Paliq will keep Igsi warm and protect him from then on, but in return Igsi cannot treat Paliq like a regular tuurngaq and they must act like a team, not with no orders or subordinates. which Igsi is like okay yeah perfect.

this however does Not solve the fact that Igsi is wanted and also starving OOPS. so one way or another, Igsi ends up returning to Iqaluit, and obviously he’s fucking arrested. and while Igsi and Paliq are planning to find a way to escape and leave the country (its a terrible plan), guess what. it’s that fucking anthropologist in the beginning didn’t expect THAT. and he’s like Listen Igsi. youre a good man if a bit misguided. I can get you out of this situation to the best of my ability, but in return you have to tell me about what your mentor has taught you, and also tell me about your new friend. because turns out, while this anthropologist joined Igsi’s family to study poverty and culture in Inuit families, he ended up getting really obsessed with the “lost” art of traditional angakkuit so now he wants access to it.

Igsi agrees, the court proceedings go surprisingly well bc Lawrence has the money to provide Igsi with a good lawyer, and Igsi gets off with manslaughter. so he still does time but like, better than second degree. and while Igsi has obviously lost the trust from his Mentor for killing her son, he still has a lot of angakkuit knowledge that he starts to provide for Lawrence, and while Lawrence is very careful to make the whole transaction seem very equal bc they’ve known each other for so long and he knows Igsi’s deal with authority, he basically has Igsi on a leash and is using him as a working dog isnt that FUCKED. I love it.

this goes on until “present day” in the story (which actually takes place in 2030 cuz im insane), where Igsi is finally off of prison. and Lawrence is like hey I’ve got word from two reputable angakkuuk (the protagonist’s, Piqati’s, parents) that theres actually a super small hamlet in the middle of buttfuck nowhere where a living god resides and is basically a bastion for power and spirits. come with me and we can go there and you can basically do whatever the fuck you want there forever and i get to pursue my studies (unlimited power but Igsi doesn’t know that). and Igsi is like Fuck Yeah let’s go.

SO. NOW HES LOOSE. he enters Ittuatuq and immediately starts antagonizing the fuck out of everyone in there, but especially Piqati and his friends. WHICH IS INSANE. BC THEYRE 18 YEARS OLDS WHO ARE STILL IN SCHOOL and at this point Igsi is 24 it’s like. he’s beefing with high schoolers and he’s very pathetic about that. But what i reallyyyy wanna focus on is his interaction with a certain character: Airaq, the VERY beloved bear deity of Ittuatuq.

HIS DYNAMIC WITH AIRAQ IS SOOO. RRAUURAGH if you love dog coding and religious doubt then this is it this is the place. at first Igsi starts pursuing Airaq because he’s kind of very into the whole challenge of getting with a deity and the fact that Airaq seems so pure and beloved on the outside. so it starts out with very casual flings and hook ups, but over time as the plot moves on Igsi starts getting really attached to Airaq and it’s like. oh shit. now all of a sudden he feels himself getting wrapped around a god’s finger, instinctively doing what Airaq says (the whole fucking “call your dog off” dynamic), and oh god, is this going against his ideals? what does it mean that he’s falling in love with a god?

so yeah. dog metaphors, religious metaphors, and crazy insane power dynamics all about. also stupid crazy faggot sex but thats not what you asked for and i wont embarrass myself elaborating here LMAO.

OKAY THIS GOT VERY LONG. and i could honestly do this for hours but this is, believe it or not, just a brief overview of him and i barely even got into the main plot. if you or anyone who is reading this wants anything more specific then please feel free to ask and ill go even deeper. god i really need to actually start writing him cuz im obsessed with him genuinely.
