Game Gear Style

Because OHRRPGCE started in around 1998 and was programmed in QuickBasic, th engine still has a lot of 'retro' aspects even today. Some traits are tha the graphics use a 256-colour master palette, map tiles and overworld sprites are 20*20 pixels, all sprites use 16 colours from the master palette, portrait sprites are 50*50 pixels, player sprites are 32*40 pixels, and enemy sprites could be 34*34, 50*50, or 80*80 pixels.

In light of these conditions, I decided to look to Game Gear games when referring to sprite style, since thei restraints fit wi the above conditions. I have been specifically looking at Donald Duck - Deep Duck Trouble and The Jungle Book, though Desert Speedtrap looks good to me... pretty distinct from the other OHRRPGCE games, too.

(The odd thing is that OHRRPGCE natively uses .ogg files in audio, which do not have those conditions.)

Apparently, I locked myself out of the true ending by picking the second dialogue choice, but thanks to a glitch that is now patched, I got the true ending anyways. The moral of the story is to always wait for someone else to beat/datamine the game first.

LOL! It's funny cause Duncan Rouleau said Prime!Sonic was written to be as close to Game!Sonic as possible! He even mentioned he disgarded the old cartoons and comic books to stay true to the Sonic from the games!

I only know that he said that the show is canon, which caused so many unnecessary headaches 🙄 Flynn playing coy only to then go like "sike! show retconned itself! it was never relevant! now stop bothering me uwu" didn't help.

Anyway, Prime Sonic was always pitched as having to learn to not take his friends for granted. That alone makes him OOC compared to the canon Sonic "Superpower of Teamwork™" the Hedgehog. I could also mention how in the Storybook games he doesn't take long to understand that the people in front of them are not his friends, unlike Prime Sonic who apparently pisses off Nine to the point of attempting genocide precisely because he won't stop seeing him as Tails.

I wouldn't even care if they were honest. Just say it's an alternative interpretation. This is why I respect the movies much more: they know they are their own thing, and Sonic very much comes as an intentionally younger, immature version of game Sonic. Like him or not, he's not "canon".

found out about this prompt pretty late! I've missed doing challenges!

since it's almost a week in already, I might not hit every prompt, but the days look so fun it's an excuse to finally dust off the ocs in my head. I didn't plan to draw gala in another retraux style so soon.

if there was ever a time to mess around with the concept of playfully creepy analogue stuff, it's through a self-indulgent art challenge in october.

if you do intend to do your neocities wiki idea, and want any extra help, I would gladly volunteer. I've already made a habit of archiving information from the website and clown's tumblr into my own google docs/reading your observations/stalking the wh wiki the past few months.

thank you for the kind offer! i think i can probably handle the parts concerning canon information/trivia/etc. just fine on my own, but it would be nice to open some kind of feedback form somewhere on the site in case i end up missing something. what'll really be a learning curve for me is the actual coding of the site; it's been a really long time since i've worked with html/css. using a premade layout and building off of that would probably save me some time, but if i ever hit a wall and can't find any solutions by myself, then i'll be sure to call for help here!

right now my plan is to just write up all the raw text with sources in my spare time, and once that's done i'll actually get a site going so i can plug it in and focus solely on formatting. i've also been recommended mediawiki for this project, and it looks pretty promising, but i admit there's something about the retraux customization of neocities that speaks to me juuust a little bit more.

Did you know, that Fuse Man [MEGA MAN 11] has a ‘official’ retraux tileset? Kind of? The mobile game, No Heroes Allowed! DASH! contains a Mega Man crossover, and includes Fuse Man (and Block Man) as enemies!

The actual image is stored internally as a JPG and is fairly compressed and *very* blurry. I needed a Fuse Man tileset, for reasons, so I took the time to redraw and remake it.

Feel free to use it, credit for the remake is appreciated. I’ll probably be bundling this in a future compilation/community collab game.

It took half the Rolling Bunker fight for me to realize that Flow Arts are activated by pressing the Cancel button, unlike regular attacks that are activated with the Confirm button.
