i think that Grantaire being canonically attracted to men can hardly be disputed because he's very explicit in his attraction and love for Enjolras, to the point where i hardly ever see anyone deny this (even outside of the fandom i mean), but i do think that it's actually very very clear we're meant to interpret Enjolras as homosexual?
of course it has always been interesting to me how Victor Hugo chose to introduce Enjolras as a wild Antinous (emperor Hadrian's gay lover), only to tell us a few lines later tells us he wasn't aware that there was a being on earth called woman and like, yeah i guess that's pretty gay but there's still some space for debate. how on earth are we supposed to interpret the following sentence though
"Evadne's bare bosom would have moved him no more than Aristogeiton; to him, as to Harmodius, flowers were good only for hiding the sword"
so in his first introduction, like in the same fucking PARAGRAPH he's compared to not one, not two but THREE different gay men, and one of those comparisons is there to explicitly say that he wouldn't care if a woman showed her tits to him. it's an INSISTENT analogy that only gets stronger when we get to grantaire's part, with them being pretty much two sides of the same coin, getting compared to even MORE gay men

Yep, still thinking about this parallel (thanks to @stedesparasol).
The closed curtains vs. the open ones.
The cold, dim light vs. the warmth and colors of the fireworks.
The longing turned outward to someone gone vs. the longing turned inward to someone there.
His knees drawn up and hands and arms covered vs. his relaxed posture and uncovered arms.
His disheveled hair vs. his hair that has been lovingly taken down.
Ed being closed out from the world and its warmth and light vs. Stede closing them in to the warmth and light together.
And no tears.

iirc the original plan was that L and Light were supposed to be fencing, but this was changed to a tennis match. I then wondered what other sports they could have played... and I may have gotten carried away.

Can I request maybe how the death note trio react to reader being too shy to hold their hand? Like Reader obviously wants to hold their hands but doesn’t know if it is ok (you don’t have to write for the trio you can pick a single character to write for)
oh. my. gaaaahkjsbdjjshjdhd yes. thank you anon for asking this!!! I wrote it more story-ish than bullet point headcanons so I hope it's okay :)
I also included how I think they would actually hold your hands... I realised when writing this I had headcanons for that??
I have moved to my main @lawlietscaramels please follow there for new content!
can you tell L's hands are my favourite thing. like, ever.
╾ To Hold Your Hand
 ★━━─・‥…━━━☆
L 🍰
L had oddly feminine hands. They were much larger than most women's, sure, but so slender and delicate. His fingers were pale. Well, L never went outside, so that was to be expected. But still. You couldn't help but wonder, as you looked at him absentmindedly running those wonderful fingers through his hair or a bowl of sweets, how they would look with the nails painted black.
Or, even better, how they would look intertwining with your own fingers.
L, being L, noticed your gaze rather quickly. He looked at you, looked at you looking at him, and the edges of his lips slowly curved into what might just be called a smile. He tilted his head in a nod of acknowledgement and went back to work. The detective's fingers ran over the keyboard, applying calculated pressure as he pressed down each key with a soft chuk.
You wanted to hold his hands.
So, so very badly.
And yet L was so, so very likely to decline the offer. He didn't like showing affection in "such manners." And he needed both his hands, too, for working.
But they looked so warm and soft.
"L?"
"Yes?" as he typed away.
"...Never mind."
Silence for a moment. He picked up a cupcake with two fingers and pressed it into the palm you were resting on the table.
"This is what you wanted?"
You smiled as his fingers rested against your skin. They were shockingly cold and somewhat sticky, but so soft. "Yes."
L nodded in satisfaction at this and went back to work. You ate your mini cupcake with one hand, leaving the other one palm up on the desk in the hope that L's spectacularly analytical mind would apply its skills to you for once.
You looked at his hands longingly in the silence. Would it be okay if you reached over and touched it? You didn't know.
Well, you had to find out sometime, right?
Your hand inched across to L's, and you rested your pinky against his, curling your finger around L's after a moment. He looked down in surprise at the feeling, staring for a minute, then gently picked up your hand and placed it back on the desk. Away from the keyboard.
...Oh.
He glanced back at you after a minute, his eyes wide and his lips straight. It was, as ever, impossible to determine his thoughts. So you just waited as he stared at you, an internal monologue likely going through his mind.
L reached over and turned your hand around, flattening your palm into the table.
And he hesitated.
And then he placed a large, cold, soft, perfect hand on top of yours.
Light 🖋️
"Light," you groaned, falling back a little to rest against a tree.
"Hold on, sorry," he says, placing a hand to the speaker of his phone. "What is it?"
You gave him a glare. "We're on a date. Stop calling Misa and just walk with me. Come on, it's such a nice day!"
"I know, Y/N. It's imperative I maintain a positive relationship with Misa for work. Just give me a minute." He continued his conversation with the girl and you let out a quiet sigh, grumbling to yourself as you kicked little rocks across the floor.
This was the third date you'd been on recently where Light had been distracted the entire way through. Last time he even started writing what appeared to be notes on the Kira case beneath the table, his eyes on you but his attention elsewhere. As always.
Your gaze drifted across the pavement, stopping at Light's feet for a moment before trailing up his body. You halted again at the sight of his hand on the phone.
His somewhat loose grip tightened suddenly, along with his expression. That caught your attention for two reasons.
One, he seemed cross with Misa.
And two, you were suddenly enamoured with his hands. They looked strong.
You took three quick steps across from Light, yanked his phone from his hand, and pressed "end call." Light looked at you in shock and you simply slipped his phone into his pocket.
"Come on, you can tell Misa the connection dropped out. Just come walk with me."
Light sighs, before a smile starts pulling at his lips. "Alright. I suppose you're right. It is a rather nice day." He starts striding along, eyes half closed and head tilted back. He puts one hand, the one further away from you, in his pocket. Green-tinted shadows fall over his face as you walk between trees.
You keep glancing at his other hand. The hand that had just previously displayed an oddly surprising firmness. It hung loosely at his side now, knuckles prominent as he swung it in time with his stride.
It was a very nice hand. Oh, you started imagining just looking at his callused fingers, at the just-visible veins running from wrist to fingers.
If only he'd hold your hand the same way he was holding that phone. His grip soft, loose, then tightening suddenly when you... when what? Maybe his hand would grip yours tightly if you kissed him. Maybe if he saw another guy looking at you. Maybe, just maybe, if you simply asked him to.
You could feel your cheeks filling with colour as you stared.
You wanted to ask Light if you could hold his hand. You wanted to have the courage to just reach over without even asking.
But he hadn't said a word for a while now. Perhaps he was a little cross with you. Perhaps he was thinking about Kira. Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps. Any of the many options had you feeling horribly shy and awkward to just hold Light's hand. Your boyfriend's hand. So you just stared and imagined as the blood rushed to your head.
And then Light noticed.
He smiled. Probably the sweetest smile you'd ever seen from him. His eyes opened all the way, then narrowed to slits. He looked for a moment like he was going to tease you as he stopped walking, bending his head so his nose brushed yours.
But he didn't say a mocking word. He didn't say anything at all. He knew it would ruin the moment.
Light took your hand, his clasping yours at a perfect diagonal. It was warm, a little rough, and the best thing that had ever happened to you.
He ran his thumb over the back of your hand, chuckled at how you bit your lips, and gave your hand that affirming, possessive, strong squeeze you'd been hoping for.
A smile played over your face at that squeeze. It was the perfect hand-hold in every way.
It felt like...
Like he was holding your heart in his hands.
Bonus: How Misa Holds Hands 💝
She'd start off with her hands in the same position as Light does above, but much softer and more delicate. Misa would nuzzle into your side, then her fingers would intertwine with each of yours, her neatly painted fingernails tapping against your skin.

I don't believe Izzy is dead.
In season one they "killed" off Lucius and none of us believed that he was gone. I believe an argument for that was that David Jenkins doesn't want an unhappy ending.
This season we literally got Ed coming back from the dead after a trip to purgatory; and he was dead for how many ever days. Buttons literally turned into a fucking seagull. Izzy was literally established to be an "indestructible little fucker." He survived multiple toe amputations, got shot in the fucking leg, lost said leg to infection and had to have it amputated. Then survived an attempt at suicide by sheer fucking luck. He was up on a peg leg in no fucking time. Like seriously!
They cannot just kill him with a shot in the gut. That's just piss poor story telling, especially because of the things above that they already set into place.
Additionally, one of the last shots was Izzy's grave and a seagull, which 100% was Buttons. If that's not foreshadowing that that man isn't dead, I don't know what is.
I want him to wake up, crawl out of that freshly turned dirt, spitting out said dirt, cursing to any God that might exist. Extra points if it's storming and Izzy limps to the house Ed and Stede are fixing up. The door opens up as lightning strikes, scaring the hell out of Ed and Stede.
Anywhozle, denial is a hell of a drug and I'm not giving up on Izzy.

the time loop chapter is so fucked up i think about it every day and reading the manga its worse because there’s certain dialogue that was cut out of the anime (presumably to make it acceptable for kids)
Like ok. im gonna give a play by play from Saiki’s POV. so you can For a second imagine how much stress Saiki had to be under.
Imagine walking home from school and out of nowhere you get trapped in a time loop, already bad, but you can get out of it easy- except uh oh! now you are in ANOTHER time loop. ok, fine, get out of that. It goes on so long that you eventually stop being able to process anything around you but whatever, its fine. EXCEPT UH OH! A THIRD TIME LOOP! This time you are trapped in a loop of watching your best friend run into traffic to protect a small child, and the only one able to save them from dying brutally is you. You save the day, great, Unfortunately this is a time loop and now you’re trapped in this hell, watching your best friend dive in front of a moving truck. You need to have an empty mind to leave this, but thats hard because you also have to keep them from getting flattened. You’re getting more and more exhausted, but thats fine. You watch them get brutally killed in various ways thousands of times, over and over and over and over again, but thats fine. it’s still looping. you keep failing to save them. it’s still looping.
Rather than emptying your mind, Eventually you just disassociate, its gone on so long that your body is moving on its own. You are so tired, and you’ve seen your best friends organs on the road now probably a couple hundred times at this point (seriously Wtf Asou) and so it’s all just blended into the background.
You disassociate so hard your mind is empty. Your body moves on its own to save them. The Time Loop is finally over. You went through this 16,785 times.

the thing about amen and vincent that i think a lot of you still do not understand (and i'm using them specifically bc they're the ones being compared) is that 1) amen wants every single dark magician dead, and he takes pleasure in torturing them and killing them, that is a very important part of his character, and that's why the book has made it so fucking clear! amen said it himself! he is not gonna change his ways just because he and eva are in love! eva literally makes the decision to accept that part of himself, so you cannot deny it and you can't complain if you were expecting something else because the book was pretty clear from the beginning about who amen really was (and i'm not saying he doesn't have layers but those do not take away the fact that he enjoys killing and that's that) -- and 2) vincent is not like amen at all. sure, his job, and i think it even has to do with his legacy, is being a demon hunter, but he doesn't go around killing every fucking demon he comes across, he's only after the ones who don't care about his world's ways, the ones who kill humans (like mc was planning to do until he told her what would happen if she did). and sure, you can argue that both amen and vincent want to rid the world of "evil", but again, amen takes pleasure in toturing and killing people (and it's because of a personal vendetta he has, may i add), vincent does not

The scene at the beginning of s2e8 of Our Flag Means Death is comic, but the resonance with s1e6 ...
So much of Ed's trajectory as a character is about grappling with his need to respond to his own father's violence. He walked away from piracy in part because safety in that life required controlled, strategic violence, which has had great personal costs to him forever.
"Control your Pop-Pop," as silly as it is, is a request for an intervention and protection he didn't get when he was younger. It's not that he can't protect himself-- we know he very well can-- but I think he wants a do-over of his interactions with his father that doesn't leave him feeling alone.
I think "Control your Pop-Pop" is also self-directed in a couple of ways: to his young self, who is still within him and traumatized, and to his current self, who is trained to respond to threat with a strategic violence that would be overkill here.
Tumblr media
A little later, Ed makes his second Bond girl entrance of the series, emerging in the leathers he had just buried at sea. We've been hearing the noise in his head for a bit, since he sees the wreckage of ships in the harbor and immediately fears that Stede is dead. Among the static and the dim sounds of British sailors dying in his hands, there's a distorted version of Voi che sapete playing, which of course is what The Swede was singing the night Ed had a flashback to killing his father, behind Stede's narration:
Tumblr media
Stede-- or Ed's fear for Stede, or horror at having promised to kill Stede-- calls up the kraken in s1e6, inadvertently triggering Ed. And it's Ed's fear for Stede in s2e8 that returns him to the scene where he buried his old life, to dig it up for the occasion.
Poor Ed has a lot going on in the season 2 finale, and I hope he's enjoying some restorative warm blankets, good food, and orgasms.

six-petaled promise
scott doesn't use salt in his cooking anymore. it all tastes horribly bland. he's never been the best cook anyways.
he had been the one who did that for them. scott still can't say his name, except when he wakes up, calling out for a life long gone.
he misses it. it feels... painfully obvious, to say the least. there had been a future where he didn't have to claw for power, to vie for even a chance of living beyond the competition, and he misses it. he misses thunderstorms. he misses fresh-baked bread. he misses lilies, white, six-petaled. he misses... god, he misses life.
so yes. maybe he is crazy. maybe that's what the others say about him, along with the fact that he's cold and heartless and dead, on the inside and outside both.
(and, well. the heartless part isn't strictly untrue. he has feelings. but, well. necromancy has its ups and downs. there is always a new sacrifice to make.)
scott doesn't use salt in his cooking anymore. he can't remember the last time he ate something for the sake of enjoying it. everything is sustenance, fuel to push onwards.
he has to win. no matter the cost. he knows he's not the only one- he sees the constant blue tinge of pris' face, the way she breathes air like it's not quite natural anymore. he's watched joey, manic, fever higher than any normal person should be able to survive, throwing himself into a block of ice for some relief. he's listened to shelby cry storms at the death of a bee, seen the fresh lightning burns on her hands.
yes. they all lose something. it makes it worth it. it doesn't make it fair. power is power, at the end of the day.
scott pretends that the lichen crawling up his fingers is simply a result of too much magic at one time. that it will go away, slip back down his wrists without a trace. he would make scott scrub it off. scott will do it when he's back.
scott doesn't use salt in his cooking anymore. it burns his tongue, his throat. his arms are mottled with pale scars. oh, the sacrifices he makes for him. it doesn't matter; they'll adapt. they always do.
how does it feel to be a real witch? a real lich? cleo laughs at him. he doesn't think they're actually laughing at him. her eyes are distant, far away as ever. she glows now, in the dark, the lichen budding on her skin.
pinocchio, pinocchio, a real boy at last, they muse, steepling their hands in front of them. tell me, why do you still dance to their puppet strings?
scott doesn't understand. he doesn't understand so many things. that's why he has to practice. he has to get better. be the best.
cleo looks away from him. she looks-
(at you. she looks at you. don't do this to him. it isn't fair. nothing is fair. learn to live with it.)
scott blinks. nothing has happened. nothing has changed. it has always been like this.
go home, scott.
there's no home left to go back to. he says it, nonchalant. if he had a heart, it would be beating in his chest. nevertheless.
then go anywhere.
scott doesn't use salt in his cooking anymore. scott doesn't cook anymore.
(when does the question turn from who am i without you? to who am i at all? where is the line? how do you learn how to stop, to just let go? i don't think any of us know.)
the earth hums beneath his feet. he can feel death, old bones rattling, waiting. there is a graveyard twenty minutes' walk from his house.
there are two graves side by side at an abandoned home. scott thinks there ought to have been a third. he thinks he ought to have carved their names on their graves, let them be remembered. milo. maxwell. really, he ought to have done a lot of things.
(he is the corpse and he is the vulture circling overhead and he is the mycelia beneath and he is and he is and he is-)
he is all that is left.
scott doesn't use salt in his cooking anymore.
