heartbreak at the tower, ron weasley.
summary: in which you have to break your boyfriend’s heart to protect him.
warnings: slytherin!reader, riddle!reader but no one knows about it, and nothing but angst.
You walk up the long spiral stairs of the astronomy tower, your anxiety building up with each step, slowly moving closer to the top entrance of the tower. This is it. Tonight, you have to break the news to your boyfriend that you’re breaking up with him. You don’t want to, but with your father getting increasingly dangerous, you know deep down that it needs to be done.
“Ron?” You whisper, finally up the stairs and walking towards the balcony of the tower. You struggle to hold yourself back from breaking down when you see him, looking perfect as per usual, a soft smile on his face when he turns around and notices you.
He pulls you into a tight hug, letting out a sigh, “I missed you.”
“I missed you too.” You manage to say, quickly pulling away from him, longing for his touch again, but resisting the temptation to hug him a second time.
“What did you need to tell me?”
The question you’ve been dreading the entire day. This is going to be impossible, but as long as he’s safe, it’s worth it. “Ron, we need to..” You clear your throat, suddenly feeling nauseous, “I think we need to breakup.”
His facial expression drops, his previous smile gone, now replaced with a frown. “What? Why?”
“It’s not going to work, Ron.” You close your eyes momentarily, not wanting to face him, knowing that opening your eyes makes everything real. “I’m so sorry.” You breathe out.
“No, look at me. You don’t get to break up with me without an explanation and then not even look at me.” He raises his voice. “Tell me why, tell me why after everything we’ve been through, your saying that we’re over just like that."
“My family, okay? If I keep dating you, you and your family will be in danger, and I can’t be the reason something happens to any of you. Let’s just be honest, Ron, we knew this was coming.” You shake your head, looking at him once again, your tears clouding your vision.
“Don’t try and act like I was part of this decision! You knew this was coming, I didn’t. I just don’t understand, who are your parents?” He says.
You can’t tell him. He’d hate you even more if he knew.
Pressing one last quick kiss to his lips, you then turn away from him with one last “I’m sorry.”
“I’m not giving up on you!” Ron calls out as you leave, earning the smallest smile from you.
