I think where people get caught up on the healing/blood bending dichotomy is that we see healing with water bending as taking a glob of water and moving it over the skin until the burn goes away, using it to direct energy in the body, while they think of blood bending as some thing more internal somehow and I’m sure someone would think it’s easier to directly bend the blood and force it to clot then to take a glob of water and press it against the wound and somehow make the blood stop… I think it would’ve been neat if we had more time devoted to katara getting instruction in the art of healing, to learn some more technical details about it, because people really seem to ignore healing as an art form and then try to reinvent it through blood bending, when in reality it’s just forcing the water in someone’s body to move around thus forcing the body to move.
Maybe Aang should have gotten some time to learn healing while Katara was mastering more advanced forms, but idk. Sorry this is a bit rambly.
we see some of how healing works when katara enter's yugoda's classroom. once you realize that healing isn't just about treating surface wounds but also manipulating chi paths in the body, it becomes a lot clearer that healers are already using the techniques people think katara "banned" when she said no one should bloodbend.
Tumblr media
katara: it's wrong to violate someone’s autonomy in this way that is akin to rape or torture
fans for some reason: omg she hates surgeons!!!!!!
also yes i definitely agree that it was weird for aang to never express interest in learning healing. i've said it before but i can't find where so i'll just say it again now. healing is one of the coolest powers ever and i don't understand why anyone with the potential to do it wouldn't want to do it?? it's not that aang believes in the gendered binary between healing and fighting that the northern water tribe does, so i can only chalk it up to his naivete, and imagine that as he gets older he learns healing from katara, as anyone with a shred of common sense would.
Hot take: Hama wasnt “right” exactly but she shouldnt be imprisoned again. She should be home with her people. She should be with Kanna , not living her twilight years in a firenation prisoncell. She should be pardoned or some shit idk. If we take her age and The conditions of the other victims in her flashback to the logical conclusion , she is likely the sole survivor of a concentration camp for the SWT benders. Its fucking abysmal. IDK what it would take but its so cruel her current status.
yeah i've said this before too. i like to think that instead of being reimprisoned or executed she manages to escape, and after the war katara finds her and sends her to the south pole to live out her final years there.
I like the great divide because I like the sibling arguing part over something that is kind of ridiculous, Katara and Saka are not part of these groups and neither has any particular reason to believe one over the other but they both pick a side and go whole hog, and as someone with a sibling with about the same age gap as those two that felt pretty realistic.
i mean katara and sokka fight over trivial shit all the time, that much is true, but the argument itself makes no sense. not only would katara not care about getting rained on, seeing as she is a literal waterbender, but the zhangs and the gan jins have the stupidest fucking "conflict" like this show that is otherwise wonderfully nuanced presents the most simplistic two dimensional plotline ever, and also expects us to believe in the process that katara is prim and proper and prepared and sokka is messy and spontaneous or whatever not only is that blatantly untrue it's just straight up bad writing it's a bad episode and you guys need to stop trying to justify it. that said aang's first ever conflict resolution as the avatar being a straight up lie is pretty funny.
Sorry for spaming ur inbox i am full of thoughts atm
i can see that

Unfortunately, great Tony stuff often seem to come at the expensive of other characters. 2-4 isn't such a great episode for Valkyrie and Gamora.
Both characters end up undergoing what basically amounts to "The character path they already traveled in the original films they came from, except Tony gets to take all the credit for their growth and development." He gives them both pep talks and they immediately change into their heroic versions.
At least Val gets to kill the Grandmaster so that's neat.
Gamora, meanwhile, barely gets to do anything at all. She gets utterly screwed. Story of her life; She is perpetually cast as a character who is exceptionally badass but never in a way that influences the plot. Her biggest moment is single-handedly breaking out of Grandmaster's inescapable prison and nearly assassinating him, only to be promptly recaptured and reimprisoned so the story can move on like none of that even happened.
Her apotheosis comes when Tony tells her to betray her dad and she decides he's right, so she clears an obstacle out of Tony's path that was only put there five seconds ago so that Gamora would have something to do.
The MCU has never had any solid ideas for what to do with this character, outside of being Nebula's sister and Nebula's path to redemption. This episode is no exception. In an episode whose specific function was to explain where the badass Gamora from the previous season finale came from, Gamora is more or less superfluous to the story.
You had one job, 2-4, but you were too busy having fun with Tony instead.

✨✨SPOILERS FOR THE MOVIE "THREE THOUSAND YEARS OF LONGING" ✨
So, i just got back from seeing this movie, starring Tilda Swinton and Idris Elba. It is a movie a about a woman (tilda) who is a scholar that specializes in stories, finding a bottle while on a lecture tour in Istanbul, which happens to contain a Djinn (Idris). Per the standard fashion, the Djinn grants Tilda 3 wishes, as his freedom is bound to the completion of the 3rd wish (meaning as long as he actually fulfills the 3rd wish, he is instantly freed, there need not be a wish for freedom, which is a nice touch imo)
The entire plot of the movie is the Djinn telling Tilda how he came to be imprisoned 3 times over the last 3000 years, most of which was due to him falling in love with a woman, starting with the Queen of Sheba, and him being imprisoned by King Solomon, because Solomon didnt want to compete with the Djinn. Im not going to go through the entire plot of the movie, but its important to note that he loved Sheba, and his love for her is what caused his imprisonment, and what stipulated his powers, as the imprisonment was a curse, not just a matter of course.
This Djinn's wish granting power is not just for any frivolous desire, like endless wealth, or a good sandwich. His detainment into the bottle was due to his hearts deepest desire, and thusly, he cannot fulfill any wish unless it is truly of the wisher's hearts desire. Tilda refuses to make any rash decisions, as she has an extensive education in history and mythology, and is insodoing well versed in the stories of wishes and genies and djinn, and requests him to tell her how he become locked up in his series of bottles, trying to discern whether he is a Trickster Djinn.
The Djinn goes in depth, telling the stories of his fate, his love, his loss, his torture in a half-state of existence, his new love, and reimprisonment, again through the millennia. After hearing the stories of how much his love and lost love has cost him through the ages, Tilda makes her first wish, which, to me, really threw the movie WAY off pace, and took it down several pegs in my book... Tilda wishes for the Djinn to love her. She wishes for the Djinn to love her, and her to love him, so they might end their solitude together.
This is about 2/3 of the film through, leading into the final act. Tilda heard how the Djinn fell in love with his previous masters, after having been devoted to them for years and years, through learning them and their passions and desires, who they were as people, and falling for them for who they were... And after (seemingly) an hour or so, she wishes for the same thing they had, and is granted it by the Djinn.
Now, obviously, this is the point, which they even explicitly mention towards the end, that Tilda has wished for something you cannot ask for, that can only be given, which in a way, is a new kind of prison. She binds the Djinn to her, believes his affection to be genuine and real (which it is, for all intents and purposes), until she realizes several weeks later, that the Djinn is dying because she has bound him to the mortal realm by refusing to make her remaining wishes, and keeping him tied to the plane of mortals.
I dont know what im trying to say here, as im not really making a point, so much as stating what happened, but that turn of events just... (Excuse the pun) Rubbed me the wrong way. The tone of the film up to that point did not seem to be leading to that conclusion, in my opinion. I think i could write an entire essay about this film, my opinions on it, and the symbolism and message both presented and implied.
**bonus: the airline she flies into Istanbul on is the "Sharazad", or Scheherazade, of One Thousand and One Nights fame, and her name is Alithea, as in the greek goddess of Truth.

Truly insane that Aylin can be reimprisoned twice after being freed. That it really is as simple as creating the soul cage, killing her, and lashing her in it while she’s down. I do think the soul cage isn’t easy to create, and killing her is not easy to do, but it’s still . . . the fact that it can just happen like that. The fact that releasing her is always as simple as giving her a hand up, yet so few would be willing. That it’s as easy to be cruel as compassionate, and so many will choose that cruelty instead.

Never trust a demon
Especially if they’re from Jackie Chan Adventures
In Season One, Valmont provides the statuesque Shendu with all twelve of his talismans (which Jackie Chan stole at Valmont’s behest) and thus frees him from his petrification. Once free however, Shendu reneges on their previously agreement and refuses to provide Valmont with the lost treasure of Ching Xi Hung.
“Regrettably, Valmont, you did not provide me with the talismans. Jackie Chan did.”
Shendu justifies this reneger through a minor technicality that has no validity-that it was Jackie that obtained the talismans and not Valmont’s men. A ludicrous distinction, seeing as Chan was in Valmont’s employ at the time and was acting as his agent as much as Finn, Ratso or Chow were. This is clearly a pretext to refuse Valmont his rightful reward, indicating that Shendu never planned to give Valmont a single coin. Incidentally, by doing this, Shendu has much in common with another fictional dragon, who’s name shall not be mentioned here.
This first act of betrayal sets the tone for the dishonouring of demonic promises in the series. Ironically enough, the next person to suffer from the reneger of a demonic promise is Shendu himself.
After being destroyed by Jade Chan and being consigned to the Netherworld as a spirit, Shendu is at the mercy of his vengeful siblings. He only manages to forestall their wrath by promising to free them from their prison. While the seven siblings agree, they devise a contingency which traps Shendu within the first mortal he possesses, promising to free him only after he opens all seven of their portals.
Fast forward to several months later, when Shendu and his minions open the seventh and final demon portal in Rome. Only to be flatly denied his release by his sister, despite the previous agreement.
Po Kong, Xiao Fung, Tchang Zu, Dai Gui, His Wu, Tso Lan and finally Bai Tsa were all released from the Netherworld by the efforts of their disembodied brother. And every one of those demons, through no fault of Shendu’s, found themselves banished once more within hours or days of their release.
Po Kong never even managed to leave the courtyard where she was released, before the elder Chan’s spell sent her right back to the Netherworld. Xiao Fung never left the prison walls into which he was freed before being sent back to the void. Tchang Zu wreaked havoc in Hollywood for a couple hours before being cast back into his portal. Dai Gui rampaged around Spain for less than a day before being exiled once more. Hsi Wu was the exception to his siblings in that he was able to stay free for a couple days, before sharing their fates. Tso Lan spent perhaps an hour outside the Netherworld before being whisked back. Bai Tsa was the smartest of the lot and managed to outmaneuver the Chans twice, but eventually was also hunted down and banished again.
All these demons squandered their brief freedom by blundering around the mortal world, blind to any dangers that existed to them-namely Uncle Chan and his chi spells, overwhelmingly arrogant in their own power. By the time Bai Tsa emerged from her portal in Spain, the other six demon sorcerers had been freed by their brother and reimprisoned just as quickly.
All six demons were furious at the abbreviated nature of their short-lived freedom, but they had no one but themselves to blame for their return to the pit. Had they acted differently, found a stronghold to hide in and built up their knowledge and strength, they could have survived and prospered in the modern world. As it was, they blundered around, drunk on their own power and found that their strength and magic did nothing to prevent their banishment.
Having learned nothing from centuries of incarceration, the six re-imprisoned demons blamed others for their lack of freedom as did their yet-to be freed sister. Specifically, their brother, as if Shendu had anything to do with their renewed banishment.
Thus, when Bai Tsa was released and Shendu asked her to release the spell she and the others had placed upon him, he was met with a flat refusal. Just as Shendu had cited a ridiculous technicality to deny Valmont his due, Bai Tsa cited a similar one to deny Shendu his just reward.
“You dare request your freedom? Six demon sorcerers remain trapped in the void!”
Similar to Valmont’s claim, Shendu is completely in the right here. The agreement was that he would free all seven of his siblings. He did so, by using the Pan Ku box to open all of their portals, one by one. After releasing Bai Tsa, Shendu’s part of the bargain was complete. But, as the demons were seriously dissatisfied with the scant hours of freedom they had received, they chose to take their displeasure out on their brother by denying him what he wanted. After all, if they had to suffer imprisonment for eternity, so should he.
This is another prime example of demons dealing in bad faith. A refusal to honour a bargain after it has been struck and one party has fulfilled their obligation is a prime example of untrustworthiness and reneger.
Shendu’s reputation for this sort of dishonesty does not seem to spread among the supernatural community, as a year later, a dark chi wizard strikes up a new bargain with the still-disembodied Shendu.
Daolon Wong agrees to reincarnate Shendu in a new body on Earth, in exchange for the Dragon power which is currently adrift on the magical winds. Wong holds up his end of the bargain and reincarnates Shendu in a new body. But mere moments after Shendu opens his eyes and the Dragon power emerges, Wong finds himself thrown aside as Shendu claims this promised power for himself.
“While I may be a noble dragon, I am also a demon sorcerer and not known for keeping promises.”
Wong gets his revenge on Shendu by sharing a spell with the Chans that returns Shendu to stone mere hours after his rebirth. But this final betrayal proves, once and for all, that demons cannot be trusted to honour their words.
Shendu and Bai Tsa’s renegers have a veneer of justification on the basis of flimsy technicalities. But once Shendu is reborn, he does away with even this pretence and confirms outright what we’ve known all along. Demons cannot be trusted to honour their promises and will only ever do what is in their own best interest.

HOURS?!
They've spent hours accomplishing nothing? I'm--
Okay. Okay. Listen.
Zoey and co. just spent a number of weeks in close company with Kalona. You know, Kalona. The immortal. The immortal whose reign of terror was stopped by mere mortals. Kalona, the immortal who was magically imprisoned.
...
HOW HAS NO ONE SUGGESTED TRYING THIS WITH NEFERET???
This is a huge example of a missed opportunity for Kalona's redemption arc. It's long been known that Neferet is immortal and thus cannot be killed, so why wouldn't Kalona suggest trapping her like he was trapped? Wouldn't Kalona remember how he became imprisoned and be able to guide the heroes on how to do similar to Neferet? If he offered himself up as a lure the way A-ya lured him, and he submitted to being reimprisoned to save the world, that would feel more like a full circle redemption arc than anything that actually happens.
Or Zoey could call on the part of her that is A-ya and tap into those memories herself. That would make the build-up of her being reincarnated and the Chosen One actually have some sort of payoff.
Now, they do come to the conclusion that Neferet needs to be magically imprisoned, but the "how" is much more unsatisfying and doesn't feel particularly connected to the overall buildup and backstory of tbis story and these characters.

The End of a Tragic Love Story
So many Mewmans had smiled at him that evening.
It was like a surreal dream. Yes, they had all looked at him with fear and confusion when he had first stepped through the portal, but after a few surprising vouches, the people of Mewni had actually decided to give him a chance. He had been so sure that they would demand his reimprisonment, all he could do was give a thoughtful 'huh' when he was proven wrong.
After his wife's coronation finished, they were greeted with pleasant smiles and welcomes by both Mewman and monster alike. Both of whom had no problems sharing the same space as each other.
It was like he had woken up to a surreal fantasyland...One that he had stopped believing in long ago.
Once everyone had finally departed from the Butterfly Temple, and once Globgor had been assured that Meteora could wander around the place just fine on her own, he and Eclipsa had retreated to their bedroom, so as they could have a moment alone.
Globgor had to take a few deep breaths first, his mind reeling from everything that had just transpired. The last solid memory he'd had before his imprisonment was eating Shastacan after the dirtbag had tricked him into thinking his daughter was dead, now.....now everything was peaceful. Everything was okay. They were free. They were free!
With a noise that was a mix between a sob and a laugh, Globgor rushed over and grabbed his wife by the waist. His beautiful, brave, amazing wife! He lifted her in the air and twirled her around joyfully.

Okay. Okay okay okay. Wow that was an episode.
Still don't know how the Emperor knew about the plan.
The symbol in King's nursery was a symbol to hide him from the Collector. Even after the Collector was imprisoned, King's dad still feared him somewhat.
And like christ, the Collector is crazy powerful! Did anyone else say "oh shit!" when they straight-up moved the moon?
Also Luz is home and took the gang with her! Damn, she's gonna have a lot to explain to Camilla. Also calling it now, they're gonna have to go back to that conspiracy theory guy to try and track down some way to make a portal. Maybe they'll track down whoever led the Wittebanes to the Boiling Isles in the first place.
Speaking of the Wittebanes, Belos saw Flapjack, shouted "Caleb" and hulked out, which seems to confirm that Caleb was his brother's name and Flapjack was his Palisman.
Also loved that little Amphibia cameo.
And like. The coven heads saw their mistake in the end, but it doesn't make a difference. Even all together they're no match for the Collector. The only person who can stop them is King, let's just hope he can keep them occupied long enough to figure out how to reimprison them.
And can we take a moment to talk about just how many Golden Guard masks there were? Shit.
And no one died! Except maybe Raine but I'm sure they're fine (speaking of no one dying, I wonder how that little bit of Belos that made it to the human realm is gonna fare. Personally i think Belos is done as a villain, but we'll just have to wait and see)
Anwyas all this is actually making me a little more worried about the specials. If the writers aren't very careful it's gonna feel incredibly rushed finding a way for Luz to get back to the Boiling Isles, rescue everyone else, and find a way to reimprison the Collector in just three hours. I mean at the very least the gang doesn't even get to spend any time on earth, which is a damn shame, there's a lot of great story possibilities there (here's hoping we at least get a reasonable timeskip so that Gus can live out some of his dreams in the interim). Like shit, Amphibia waited half a season to solve their reverse isekai, and for good reason. These things need to last if we want them to feel important. If I had to guess, unless they've come up with something real creative, the writers are probably gonna spend more or less one special on each of the points I mentioned above, which could work provided the action is properly paced.
Sorry for rambling, I guess I just needed to get my thoughts down

Truth Serum + Why won't you return to Ionia? Why do you insist on aimlessly wandering about Valoran instead of settling in your homeland, where surely you could access great material for your works?
"My wandering isn't aimless; I have a number of set missions I'm supposed to complete. Some of them I have already...some..."
"I'm under greater threat of being reimprisoned if I stay in Ionia. Though my identity as the Golden Demon has been kept a secret among the ruling council, I still must remain cautious with those meddling shinobi running amok. Also, I'm afraid when I see my most valued sponsor again, she may not be thrilled with my more recent performances...or the tragic loss of the beautiful tool I'd been entrusted with...or my newfound penchant for getting distracted from my art by unsavory human urges..."
