online buddy of mine (born in 2004) said “i strongly suspect the vast majority of ‘I'll always remember where I was on 9/11’ stories are not true. I simply don't believe that 75% of people were watching the news live at 8:45 in the morning on a Tuesday when the strangest thing happened.” and like. okay. we can talk about the aftermath in the 22 years since 9/11 and the horrific and evil jingoism that ruined countless lives in decades-long wars all we want. but i cannot overstate enough that 1) we still very much had a monoculture in 2001. most americans would watch either the today show or GMA. 2) as soon as that first plane hit every news station in the country was covering it. schools and businesses and break rooms turned on every tv. every radio. anything that had the ability to broadcast the news. (smartphones weren’t a thing. cell phones and the internet existed but they were new and fragile. unreliable. your best bet was still to sit there and watch. or listen.) and we all sat there and watched the second plane hit and the pentagon hit and the towers collapse and flight 93. so, yes: basically everyone who was alive and old enough to form lasting memories in 2001 remembers that day and the coverage. even people who weren’t near a tv or radio in real time remember where they were and what they were doing when they heard the news. they probably even remember the reason why they didn’t hear about it in real time. i was 5 years old in my first week of first grade and i remember it. it was like. the biggest thing to happen in this country since fucking. pearl harbor. bigger. there’s no need to downplay that.

so I realized that around this time of the year is already past my 1 year anniversary of being hyperfixated on Rob?? time flies
this is the timeline of how it happened according to some vague memories:
1. i happen to see some random video of The Rerun on like, YouTube I think
2. me: hmm i think that one eyed guy is giving some real gender envy– wait. oh no. its happening. he's the new Chosen One, isn't he
3. im not hyperfixated im not hyperfixated im not–
4. I AM SO FUCKING HYPERFIXATED I LOVE ROB FROM TAWOG HE MEANS EVERYTHING TO ME!!!!!!
5. rob is a major part of my life and my headspace now. i couldn't stop if I tried, because some part of my brain views him as an actual close friend, and therefore abandoning this hyperfixation would feel extremely cruel. i would never do that to him and therefore he will be my imaginary bestie/adoptive son forever. i will never grow out of it. i am perfectly okay with that

Guys
GUYS
Remember how Ashley Johnson was in Recess as a kid? And they made a feature-length movie?
Remember THIS scene?!
That makes Critical Role Campaign 3 the SECOND time Ashley Johnson has had to deal with a bad guy who wanted to mess with a moon during a major astrological event!
The parallels are actually uncanny:
Both villains:
Are petty, vengeful, and power-hungry,
Plan to get rid of something sacred (the gods vs. summer vacation)
Have beef with an authority figure the heroes are familiar with (Raven Queen vs Principal Prickly)
Are leaders of a secret conspiracy that is years in the making, one with potentially devastating consequences for the world beyond the scope of the plan (moving the moon during lunar perigee has the potential to not just get rid of summer vacation, but full-on send the world into another ice age).
Matt. Be honest. Was this whole Ruidius plan secretly inspired by Recess???

Fuckin wild to me that Aqualad in 60s Teen Titans just straight up did not have a name. Like, his name was just Aqualad. Imagine your name just being Landkid, that’s what Aqualad is going through.

My fellow zillennial. It's come to my attention that Gen Alpha is apparently making aesthetic tiktoks romanticizing 2020, like they want to be a teenager during that time??? Like no? You don't? I can't even begin to start breaking down how bad that year was in every category. McDonalds apparently now has "standards" yet another rubbish thing to add to the "college degrees make you overqualified with zero experience sorry you can't get this entry job" bucket. And Lunchables news reporters are like 30 years too late to be writing an expose on the toxic levels of metal in that.
people were dying????? we were in a state of panic and isolation???? schools were struggling with the switch to online only classes????
do we all remember the BLM protests and the tips on how to keep your face hidden and how to stay safe from getting maced???? do we remember the pushback against it??? calling on botched stats???
do we even remember the fucking US election???? how heated it got???? how much distrust republicans tried to seed into mail-in ballots?????
and then literally January of 2021, the US legislative house gets stormed in, Texas has a freeze so bad our gridlock shuts down and PEOPLE DIED FROM THE COLD WHILE EVERYONE ELSE MOCKED US FOR FREEZING!!!
2020 was not a good year. it is the furthest from a a good year, but it sure as hell emphasized a motley of issues the world had going on (tho i’m more versed in the US issues bc i live there)

honestly I’m fucking tired of calling my reps and begging them to care
I’ve been calling them over and over and over for the past four months begging and pleading them to speak out about what is obviously genocide
I don’t think they listen, most likely their underpaid interns got instructed to throw notes or voicemails out, but even if they do they don’t fucking care. It’s exhausting.
The White House comment line is only open for 4 hours 4 days of the week during hours most people work. If you’re able to call and wait for 20 minutes to finally speak to an intern they take a brief note and you can only hope they don’t immediately throw it out.
I’ve been doing this since I was a child. begging my reps to care about children being shot in school. begging them to care about my own schools getting bomb and gun threats every year. begging them to care about the fact that people don’t feel safe around cops. begging them to care about the growing number of people in my city becoming jobless and homeless and dying of covid. begging them like a dog to care at all about people’s lives and happiness.
I don’t know. I’m just fuckin’ tired
I won’t give up though. It’s not the only form of activism I do or the main one I give my energy to. I hope the same thing for anyone reading this. You shouldn’t just be boycotting and calling your reps, you should be attending vigils and protests and speaking about the issue of genocide to your friends and family
I’m just tired of people pretending like our representatives actually give a fuck what we think over their lobbyists and investors cause it is and has always been clear to me that they don’t. America has never been a democracy and if you think that you are deluded.

children still deserve breaks even if they're disrespectful. you're so embarrassing
Kids can take a break by sitting in the office if they’re going to pop off in class. They don’t get to play with their friends if they’re going to play around in class and scream at nothing and disrupt the lesson for the other kids and then start yelling out cuss words when told to sit down and stop making a scene. Go cry about it somewhere else.

my brother just came back from a school skying trip and it made me think about some slight cultural differences between Germany, and lets say, the US
my brothers friends found booze that someone forgot/left at the hotel, told the teacher, the teacher took the beer, drank it and left the vodka for the kids
they had a party and everyone over 16 was permitted to buy alcohol
one teacher stopped taking his medicine a few days prior so that he could get wasted with the kids
the teachers assistent invited my brother and his friends on a beer
one of the teaches was so drunk he danced on the tables
some kids invited other guests from the hotel to join them.
one of the kids (17 yr old) apparently kissed one of them, a lady in her 50s?
