STAR WARS: Eleventh Fleet AU

Concept art for the Eleventh Fleet.

Finally got to Eli Vanto…

…however, among the Chaos of the Unknown Regions, he is better known as Eli'van'to or Ivant.

As the first human to join the Chiss Ascendancy, the future Commodore of the Chiss Expansionary Defense Fleet was faced with a galactic sense of déjà vu as he recalled his youth under the leadership of an equally strange, red-eyed alien in the Imperial Navy. But, if earlier Eli was an assistant in the shadow of his… friend, now the main role fell to him.

Unlike Ronan, Eli's path was not as simple as it could have been. Both Karyn’s in the Empire and Eli’s in the Ascendancy - the status of “protégés” and assistants to the Grand Admiral simultaneously gave them advantages, but also entailed no less huge problems. Perhaps Vanto had it a little harder.

From a man from Lysatra who wanted to be an ordinary, inconspicuous supply officer, he became first a commander in the Imperial Navy, and then rose again to commodore in the Chiss.

Once upon a time, the Moff’s assistant, whose name Vanto deliberately forgot, said that he would either vegetate forever in Thrawn’s shadow, or the alien would drag Eli down with him. In a sense, she was indeed right.

However, it was not Mitth'raw'nuruodo, but Eli who built his destiny. He had many chances to leave, but… well… chiss, as always, was only a catalyst on the path of human stubbornly moving forward.

And Commodore Van'to's name was indeed a name to be reckoned with in the Unknown Regions.

And a few more “thoughts out loud” about Eli…

During his ten years outside the Galaxy, Vanto never joined any Family - neither the Rulings nor the Great. This distinguished the man even from the top of the Fleet, who "renounced" their "families" to serve the entire Ascendency.

At the same time, some families still left their mark on his Chains of Honor. And many after.

The chains will become a reflection of events, the secret of one of which Eli will keep “to the grave and even below it.”

However, despite his “neutrality”, in a sense, he now has a native “person” - girl-navigator Un'hee. Syndicure doesn't give up trying to place her in any family, but chiss always refuses and prefers to remain without a “family”.

And as if in retaliation to the “oldfart from Csilla,” teenager always introduces himself in Lesser Space as Unhee Vanto.

At that time, the poor Commodore swears to High General Ar'alani that he did not swear in Basic in front of the girl. Unfortunately, he often attended such meetings with admirals Tro'omis and Ma'kro, and only give them a reason to “criff” a colleague. To which one of them then received a response from Thalias and Sacheri.

…and the price for everything is the gray hair of the Supreme General.

A quick theory on Rex:

So, I keep seeing posts about Ahsoka and Rex leading in the Rebellion (pre-Rebels), and I don’t think that happened… and if it does, it’s going to kind of feel like a retcon. Here’s why…

First, I don’t think that Rex is working for the Rebellion in the Bad Batch. I think Rex’s primary focus right now is finding his brothers, and freeing them from the inhibitor chips and the Empire. I don’t think that he’s thinking about raising an army to take the Empire on, or networking with other rebel cells to blow up garrisons or steal equipment. He may be working alongside some Rebel cells to find a means to meet his goal, but I don’t think he’s actively working towards overthrowing the Empire. He has not given me any indication that is what he is doing anyway. He seems to be completely laser-line focused on helping clones specifically.

Second, I don’t think he would have just left the Rebellion to retire to a decommissioned Republic tank on a desert planet with a few of his remaining brothers had he been involved in the fight. It was pretty clear to me that Rex had done as much as he could do in the mission he had committed himself to, and was done with it. Plus, Rex doesn’t seem like the type to leave a fight. He seems more than willing to fight to the death, even in the “Relics of the Old Republic” episode of Rebels where he basically sets up to sacrifice himself to save Kanan, Ezra and Sabine as he attempts to take on three imperial AT-AT walkers solo. At the end of that episode, it felt like he was joining the Rebel cause for the first time.

Third, I don’t think he’d leave Ahsoka in a fight. I’m going to preface this by saying that I think of their relationship as purely platonic and familial (and based on Filoni’s weird reaction to the idea of Ahsoka/ Anakin ships, he likely feels the same way). With that said, she’s like a little sister to him, and I couldn’t see him abandoning her even it he did decide to abandon the rebel cause for whatever reason. To put it another way, I don’t think that he and Ahsoka were fighting for the same reasons or for the same cause.

In closing, I don’t know that we will end up seeing Ahsoka and Rex together in The Bad Batch, and if we do, I think it will be her temporarily aiding him to the end goal of saving brothers and nothing more. She is, after all, running a damned spy network.

Annabelle Pham was born in San Jose, California and raised in an Asian immigrant household in South San Francisco. Growing up working class, her parents encouraged her to pursue her education while also helping raise her sickly younger brother, RJ. Playing softball and being a bit of a rebel, despite her shortcomings, Annabelle had the opportunity to attend an Ivy league college on a partial scholarship, which she rejected after her father's restaurant was vandalized and robbed.

Rather than use the money for school, she pushed her family to use it to repair their restaurant. Annabelle would choose to attend a 2 year college in a CTE program since it was more affordable, working part time in her family's restaurant while she searched for new employment.

While job searching, she became curious about the recruiters office in her neighborhood, and next thing she knew, she was in the army (much to her mother and father's disappointment.)

At some point, then Private Annabelle "Kit" Pham would meet CIA Station Chief Kate Laswell while fighting alongside SAC/SOG officer Alex Keller. Impressed by the young woman's resolve and improvisation, Laswell would choose Anna as one of the three women she'd first suggest to join Taskforce 141 to John Price.

While hiding from enemy forces who'd kidnapped her in a foreign city, Annabelle's quick thinking kept her alive while her teammates were delayed on their rescue.

Anna got her callsign "Gremlin" from her unpredictable and unhinged behavior thanks to her fellow Sergeant Kyle "Gaz" Garrick. Hiding in walls, crawling in vents and ambushing enemies easily thanks to her small stature and the old fashioned element of surprise.

Smart, resourceful and good with her hands, she's a loyal friend and a cautious person whose instincts are good if they aren't clouded by her own feelings. Anna is a hopeless romantic who wears her heart on her sleeve, which can be a good and a bad thing...Especially when a certain Commander seeks to exploit it.

I imagine Omega as a rebel, because probably at the end of the bad batch season 3, Omega realizes that there are many clones that need help, so he ends up joining the rebels against the empire or the rebel group of Captain Rex.

After so many hours spent and long hiatuses I’ve finally finished my OC that I’ll use as a sona!

She doesn’t have great shading but I’ve tried my best.

Her name is Capitan Morgana, she’s supposed to be a space pirate (I find that concept neat). Before becoming a pirate she was in the army of the galactic empire which rules her universe (still didn’t choose a name for it), after being moved to the outer rims and seeing the misery there caused by the same government she was working for and believed in, she decided to rebel (with also her comrades), this fight didn’t go as planned and that’s how she got some of her injuries.

1) Where is mayhem in this fic? In the show he just disappears after season 1, there is a theory that he just stayed with April to keep an eye on the turtles and Draxxum and once he was defeated he went back to the council.

2) I just remembered that the movie basically confirmed that E.P.F and Bishop exist in Rise and when I think of the implications of that I get so excited and so terrified at the same time, I mean, in 2003's the guy was basically immortal thanks to alien intervention and he was never really defeated, but rebels that he reformed himself in the future. In 2012's the guy was an utrom, not much to say there. BUT IN IDW! I'll just say that I now have PTDS towards the character thanks to what he did to my baby Slash. Now, considering Draxxum plans to eradicate humanity, I don't think Bishop will be too happy AND considering his association to aliens and immortality in various iterations, I can only imagine a "he is more than he apears" situation for his version in Rise. For example: imagine if he was the firts human to enter in contact with the empyreum but insteat of giving him an extreme chage look his mutation where more hidden to the eye.

3) I'm sure one of the Capitan Piel crew members was a mermaid and they certainly don't look as human as the disney version.

Mayhem is wherever he went to during season 2. It does totally make sense that he was just watching the turtles in case Draxum pulled some shit-that being said, it makes zero sense for him to leave now, as Draxum is still active and is more dangerous than ever, but I didn't want to be constantly shoehorning him into chapters. And to be perfectly fair, Draxum wasn't completely neutralized in the show. The council put a warrant out for his arrest but he was still running around doing shit and the council just decided "well, no need to be concerned about the turtles anymore." Ironic considering how Mikey immediately started helping Draxum after that.

I'm still working on it, but I do have plans for Bishop. A lot of past TMNT characters are going to appear in some capacity or another-some of them are just gonna be little references, like Bebop and Rocksteady up at Todd's and Ice Cream Kitty being their unofficial mascot, but some are going to be important to the plot.

Bishop will absolutely not be Utrom though-I'm pretty sure the Utrom in Rise are implied to be the Council of Heads? Like, we all agree that they're Kraang, right? (you know, when I first watched this show I noticed that Draxum's face was a mask and I swore that he was a Kraang like 2003 Shredder. I like what we got but goddamn I thought I was so clever) I'm playing with how much to take from 2012 and 2003.

Fantastic Beasts

In an effort to thwart Grindelwald's plans of raising pure-blood wizards to rule over all non-magical beings, Albus Dumbledore enlists his former student Newt Scamander, who agrees to help, unaware of the dangers that lie ahead. Lines are drawn as love and loyalty are tested, even among the truest friends and family, in an increasingly divided wizarding world.

The Magizoologist Newton Scamander owned a magical suitcase, bewitched with an Undetectable Extension Charm, in which he housed a vast number of magical beasts while he travelled. He could hide the contents from Muggles by flipping a switch on the case. This case accompanied him to New York City in 1926.

There are 26 different types of creatures in the new Fantastic Beasts movie, most of which are housed in Newt’s suitcase which was enchanted with an undetectable extension charm allowing him to hide a whole menagerie of beasts in the case.

The designs of the animals in this movie are very interesting and I like how some are based on things like dinosaurs and other mythology inspired creatures. Especially the griffin-looking beast. The extra pairs of wings made it look so majestic and fantasy like. It fits perfectly in the Harry Potter world.

Looking at Fantastic Beasts Reminded me a lot of Monsters Inc and how they use the doors from the factory go into the human world and scare children.

I like the idea of things such as windows or doors to be more than just be a way of accessing a different room in a house but also transport whoever enters/exits them in a totally different world. Other objects such as Newt's case work too but I find the door to be more meaningful in some ways.

The metaphors of doors being opportunities or passageways between other worlds/dimensions is also found in mythology, religion and literature.

The Hole (2009)

The Hole features two siblings and their neighbour, who discover a suspicious looking hatch in their new suburban house basement.

The hole, which is just a hatch in their new basement is revealed to actually be the portal to some sort of other world of darkness. If you look into the hole than your worst nightmare comes true and the only way to defeat it is to conquer that fear.

I like the concept of the movie and how each fear is different and it also manifests and it's overcome differently too.

Dane's fear of his abusive father kind of links to his whole family and how he is trying to protect them too. He overcomes that fear by acknowledging the fact that the father can't hurt them anymore.

Lucas' fear of clowns is something that most young kids go through and him overcoming that fear can mean that he is starting to mature.

Julie's fear is based on the guilt she carries for the death of her childhood best friend. By coming to terms with it and realising that it's not her fault, she overcomes her fear.

The Pan's Labyrinth

The Pan's Labyrinth is a movie set in 1944 where the Allies have invaded Nazi-held Europe. In Spain, a troop of soldiers are sent to a remote forest to flush out the rebels. They are led by Capitan Vidal, a murdering sadist, and with him are his new wife Carmen and her daughter from a previous marriage, 11-year-old Ofelia. Ofelia witnesses her stepfather's sadistic brutality and is drawn into Pan's Labyrinth, a magical world of mythical beings.

The Pale Man is the secondary antagonist of the 2006 Spanish dark fantasy drama film Pan's Labyrinth; despite only appearing in one scene. He is a pale skinned humanoid monster with his eyeballs in the palms of his hands, giving him a terrifying appearance.

The Pale Man represents all institutional evil feeding on the helpless. Del Toro wrote, adding, “These are Pale Man times.” The Pale Man represents all institutional evil feeding on the helpless

The film draws inspiration from Greek mythology's Saturn/Cronos, where the villain is a Cronos- like paternal character. The Cronos of Greco-Roman myth is given a prophecy in which one of his children will overthrow him, as he overthrew his own father.

Sergio Sandoval is the concept artist that drew the design for the faun. He has had hid debut back in 1990s drawing comic-books and covers for Comics Forum.

This was one of the first concept sketches Sergio did for the faun with all the general ideas Guillermo Del Toro wanted for the character. Looking now at del Toro sketchbook, I can clearly see the influence he had on this sketch.

Equipped as a child with a prodigious imagination and ferocious curiosity, del Toro tore through a book a day, crafted plastic internal organ facsimiles with his brother, taught himself to draw at age seven and sold color-penciled comic booklets to family members.

His work has a very specific style to it. It is very gore/horror inspired and the characters that he draws usually look very uncanny and deformed.

I like how there are little sketches scattered everywhere and how he records his work.

I love the final design for the faun. The way that it's body is fused with the tree bark and how there are little parts where fur still comes out looks very natural. The 2 sets of horns really make him look more ethereal and magical.

Something that del Toro really wanted the character to have is a finger that is much longer than the rest, and I'm glad that they decided to keep this within the design.

Dierdre Wolownick-Honnold - Redefining Retirement, Overcoming Fear and Ageism. The oldest woman to climb El Capitan in Yosemite National Park.

Dierdre grew up in New York City in the 1940s and 50s and helped care for her mother who had polio. Going to high school opened her eyes to new possibilities, and she eventually moved to California after spending time in France and Japan. Dierdre's life took a big turn when she divorced her husband and started focusing on her own goals and dreams.

At 55, she began running, and has gone on to complete multiple marathons. At 59, she began rock climbing, and at 66, she became the oldest woman to climb Yosemite’s iconic El Capitan (with her son, Alex Honnold, of “Free Solo” fame).

In 2021, she celebrated her 70th birthday by climbing El Capitan again and camping on the summit.

At the end of 2023, the documentary about her life, “Climbing Into Life,” will be available to watch.

Climbing into Life is a feature-length documentary detailing the inspiring life story of Dierdre Wolownick-Honnold, the mother of Free Solo’s Alex Honnold.

This is the story of how she went from a completely consumed mother and professor, and ended up on the wall of El Capitan. From an unhappy wife and lonely mother to the status of athlete later in life, Dierdre confronts fear and ageism and gains a wonderful new community in the outdoors.

At age 71 Dierdre pushes back against the societal norms that assume her retirement years will be spent slowing down.

Pan’s Labyrinth

“It's 1944 and the Allies have invaded Nazi-held Europe. In Spain, a troop of soldiers are sent to a remote forest to flush out the rebels. They are led by Capitan Vidal, a murdering sadist, and with him are his new wife Carmen and her daughter from a previous marriage, 11-year-old Ofelia. Ofelia witnesses her stepfather's sadistic brutality and is drawn into Pan's Labyrinth, a magical world of mythical beings.”

I haven’t actually watched this movie before however the concept from reading a synopsis online looks very interesting, it seems that the main character, Ofelia, has seen such brutality from her father as a sort of trauma response she comes up with a warped reality with creatures and oddities, etc. Which is incredibly similar to my idea, with a trauma leading into creation of a twisted mind and false realities.

Sergio Sandoval has worked on the concept designs for Pan’s Labyrinth, here are the concepts for The Pale Man, one of the characters which I assume to be a creature within Pan’s Labyrinth.

I really love how the designs and how Sergio was able to finalise the idea, and also how he sketched out the designs in a blue, then making it neat with a black outline, using different shades of black to shade and highlight it, which is an interesting process, different to mine but I think it’s clever in a way, considering how he is a professional and all. The dynamic poses and shaping of each proportion is also neat with how the creatures anatomy works, such as the muscles, bone structure and skin texture.
