Ex-warbot OC
They don’t have names yet.
The two bots with the scary faces were specifically made for war, and now that it’s over, they still maintained their original ‘warface’ even though it has stigma associated to it. Many robots changed their faceplates post-war, as it made it easier to find jobs and not get into unnecessary conflict.
The sleeker looking guy used to be in their company, though he wasn’t made in the same factory as them; he isn’t their ’batch-mate’.
After the war he completely modified his frame, and now has an idol career. He desperately wats to erase his past, as people (and robots alike) will respond better to a ‘new’ and untainted idol.
The two warface bots are “brother and sister” and they do odd jobs here and there to make ends meet and to be able to afford things they want. Rich people hire them as bouncers a lot since they are a symbol of terrible times. Sometimes they earn 15k in one night for just one gig it’s crazy. They both really love clothes since it distances them from their body’s original purpose while simultaneously not erasing their past. Also they look cute and cool!
The idol bot once meets the warfaces by chance in the street and pretends he doesn’t know them AGAHAKALAK I think he’s insane… completely erasing your past and the person you were is psychopathic to me idk. Anyway
There arent a lot of warfaces going around anymore. since they either died during the war or changed their frames. Pre-war bots were re-fitted during the conflicts and just had to go back to their former unweaponized frames after it was all over so they’re fine.  All of these robots can download information and i want that type of learning to mostly disappear if its deleted, but if they learn things like we do or experience real events, those memories and skills can’t really truly be erased; if they do try erasing them, they will still remember them, just not with HD video clarity, which brings them immense suffering sometimes. “How to people live like this?!” Well buddy it sucks idk we all cope
Newly minted robots are wack because they don’t exactly have a ‘soul’ yet they just do things they’re supposed to do, but after some time, all of them actually develop real awareness and shit… my war bots had like a 78% chance of dying everyday when they were activated, but they survived and attained sentience at like one year post birth and they wised up rly fast after that. They remember their first year, but they describe it as a ‘weird haze’
These robots feel pain so they wont like dive into a hole or damage themselves too much. Self preservation means longer-lived machines which means less repair costs and less human lives on the line as well.. slay !!!
While the conflicts went on, most robots achieved sentience and decided to stop fighting so there was like a robots rights movement and eventually the war stopped altogether and now the robots have a salary and a normal life mostly. They arent organics, so they need other things. They are solar powered and need oil sometimes and also they need new nanomachines once in a while like we need vaccines. Get your boosters… its not just tetanus and coronavirus anymore now they gotta think about like..the trojan horse 9000
I want them to have this aversion to organic things dying bc they are universally gross. Like they dont like seeing living-machines die either but a rat being squished by a car is also gross!
There are probably some tensions between humans and robots but like i kinda get it bc i wouldnt mess with a guy who has like lead pipes for arms. also most robots ARE normal but some are insane idk 🙆‍♀️🤷‍♀️ just  like people are.
mine are normal tho they’re just vibing 💖🗣🤙

Note
This isn’t a req by any means, but I had an idea for the enstars self aware au and I thiiink no one brought something like it up yet? I looked at the masterlist to make sure, but you can ignore if someone did mention something similar!
So this idea assumes that the player isekaied in the enstars world as an idol and the characters realized that already. You know how you mentioned that the card pictures were like actual pictures taken from photoshoots with the idols? What if there’s something like an in-universe version of the cards (maybe as posters or actual trading cards) and when the player became an idol, they started doing their own photoshoots and have their own cards? Everyone would go absolutely crazy trying to collect all the cards (or at least the ones that they like)! Tori’s throwing a tantrum because he wasn’t able to get a royalty-themed card that Tsukasa managed to get. Kohaku (and maybe HiMERU)’s trying to murder Rinne because he won’t stop bragging about getting a casino-inspired card (like you dressed up as a card-dealer). Mika’s ascending to heaven because he managed to get a clockwork doll-themed card.
Meanwhile, you’re just there watching all of this chaos unfold in a pile of cards that the idols gave you of them. They may not have been able to come home to you with those cards while you were playing the game, but at least now they can give you the cards you didn’t get of them in person!
Yes you´re right, I don´t think anyone else brought up an idea like this before and it´s actually pretty funny to think about jnfdlnf
Like you´re just trying to live your life and do your job as an idol and you can´t help but sigh whenever one of the idols runs up to you with one of your cards and asks you to sign it for them. They act like obsessed fans when they´re supposed to be the idols you enjoyed listening to for so long😭
The rich kids definitely have an advantage when it comes to getting your cards, I bet Tsukasa just sits at his pc in the dead of night, waiting for the sales to start and then immediately buys out the entire stock nfsnf
And everyone else is soooo upset with him because he keeps them all to himself and no one else is able to buy them if he gets all of them
But if you wore an outfit that fit their own aesthetic? They´re ascending. Oh, you must have worn that just for them, right? That must mean you love them more than anyone else!
Yes, they´re delusional like that lmao
And right? Prepared to have your entire room flowing over with pictures because the idols keep dropping off their cards at your place. They´d love to have a part of them with you at all times. Aren´t they just so romantic? <3

re: your pinned post on genderbending those old men -> care to share your genderbending headcanons
anon i'm giggling kicking my feet it's like i've waited all my life for this ask and the time has finally come!!! numerous thoughs under the cut
formula 1
in this case i mainly thought about them as couple dynamics, so every one is their separate au
lestappen: grew through the ranks together, super strong hate because of course only one of them could get to the top. almost phisically fought a couple of times. charles actually pretended to be a boy for the first years of her career (because she didn't want to be left out and thought that the only way to race was being a boy) while max idgafs her way through everything, she's been raised with a purpose and that purpose is winning. when max wins her first gp charles is literally fuming because she was supposed to be the first and you can guess how bad is their antagonism in 2018/2019 because they're always paired together, always compared. max struggles less with redbull than charles does with ferrari (thank you italy and sexism), but she wouldn't be allowed to come out anyways. charles is always underestimated because she's "too pretty", "too feminine" an thus not able to drive the car in the "correct way". But once she starts beating seb she becomes "la predestinata" anyway. And of course they were each others first crush (girl crush in charles' case but you get the point)
brocedes: they have already the crazy middle-school psychosexual codependent girl friendship down to a T, so my thesis is it would be even worse. somehow.
strollonso: nanda who wins her two back to back championships and then suffers by the hands of numerous teams, gets called a whore for getting the "preferential treatment", gets told she should retire by the age of thirty. And lance who grows up watching her on the tv and begs her dad to race and works and pleads to get sponsors because she might be rich but she's still a girl. and then after years and years they become teammates and lance gets hit with the super embarassing middle-school crush she had on nanda of ages. and fernanda who married a man because she thought that's what she was supposed to do (and then divorced him once she realized she was a lesbian) can't help but to be charmed by lance's clumsiness and to tease her (lance literally vibrates out of her skin every time it happens and calls este to talk about it. este hates her)
motogp
no more separate aus baby, i'm shoving an embarassing amount of girls on the grid!
vale: i've already talked estensively about her here (like. waaay to much. i'm obsessed)
marc (marcia): she's a girly girl, she loves to feel pretty and traditionally feminine and to dress in pink and to wear skirts, she's the og babygirl. people try to underestimate her for this, but once on the track she transforms into a ruthless monster and the excuse of "too girly to ride a motorcycle" doesn't exactly stand. "en la pista soy putilla" yes she is. a lot. she pretends to be small and weak but her arms are the size of trunks and she can benchpress her brother. she's a big girlTM in a short body (but she's still taller then dani). and of course. big tits.
bez (marzia): big girlTM. she's big she's strong she's tall her face is too masculine. she's a lesbian. she's a tomboy. she doesn't know where she fits. vale is her idol, her goddess, since she was six and pretending to be her on her bike (she also had a crush on her. of course). she fight tooth and nail to get what she wants and to arrive to moto3 and her family supports her fiercely. when vale asks her to get into the academy she cries (alone in her room)
cele: weird girl, weird face, she doesn't know what's her place, she's not feminine enough but also not masculine enough, she lives in the no-man's land. she's a bit off-putting and her humour is weird and she's serious and extroverted but like, in a weird way. she's lanky and lean and shouldn't be able to ride a motorcycle but she does anyway. she's had a crush on bez for the best part of her life.
pecco: "too serious, she should smile more". small but her arms are the size of trunks. has been in love with luca for half her life and refuses to aknowledge it (but her first crush was vale. of course)

Quick notes on two shows that (holy shit, I did it!) I ACTUALLY FINISHED on this crazy trip I’ve been on.
1) A Shoulder to Cry On: I think the wonderful @bengiyo‘s stray thoughts post on this show captured exactly my thoughts -- your analytical thought of “[i]t’s the promise of a compelling drama” is spot on. I think the pace of the story undermined what could have been some really great emotional connection. And the avoidance of intimacy also confused me. I’m just gonna guess that because of the status of the two actors as Omega X idols, that many risks could not have been taken, but if risks HAD been taken, the story would have been far more seamless. I just wanted a bit more richness in emotion. At least this helped shine a light on the issues that Omega X faced, and I’m glad to see this group re-group.
2) Our Dating Sim: Speaking of emotional richness....
Wow. Wow wow wow wow wow. Wow. I didn’t write much about this show leading up to my trip -- I just leaned in on enjoying the feels.
BUT. WOW. Episode 7! Gi Tae’s feelings of abandonment and fear! How they came through in his emotional outburst to Wan!
Geez. I loved how we were kind of led on in the first episode by Wan’s fear. We assumed Gi Tae wasn’t interested in Wan. We assumed Gi Tae had the POWER of being a potential LEAD over Wan. We didn’t know Wan needed to enlist that next day after the first rooftop kiss. Wan thought that Gi Tae had pulled back.
There was a lot there in that first episode that SET US UP (or, at least, set ME up) to think that it was Wan in the weak spot, with Gi Tae having the power to say yes or no to a connection.
And then, the pursuit by Gi Tae throughout the series. The confessions, the connections. Wan seemed a little speed-blinded by it all -- how could all of this be happening? It’s happening fast. We might be wondering about Gi Tae’s sincerity throughout episode 5 since he’s coming on so hard, and Wan is avoiding it all.
We see a glimmer of heartbroken emotion by Gi Tae at the end of episode 4 -- and then the full admission of anxiety and heartbreak in episode 7.
THIS SHOW HAD BALANCE. Wow, it teased us! I couldn’t really put a finger on how it moved SO fast for Wan, and what Gi Tae’s real intentions were, and if he was sincere. I think Wan wondered that too, and Wan was played SO WELL under this curtain of confusion. His hesitation was so beautiful.
AND THEN EPISODE 7! HE HAD TO HOLD GI TAE TO COMFORT GI TAE! Wan -- Wan had to take the emotional lead to soothe Gi Tae and reassure him that the past wouldn’t repeat itself. Episode 7 BEGAN with Gi Tae fearful that the old anxiety was going to return.
Gi Tae seemed SO confident and self-assured throughout the series -- EXCEPT at the end of episode 4 and during episode 7. But those two emotional windows were PERFECT to help us understand, in this short series, what Gi Tae had been going through this whole time.
And then -- it was on WAN to comfort Gi Tae, and to make a decision to STAY with Gi Tae, and he SHOWED UP and he made that decision. And then that decision led to an even better work outcome for Re:Try.
Come awn! THIS SHOW WAS GREAT! I TOTALLY didn’t expect to LOVE this show as much as I did at the end. And I love to see the love for the two actors on social media, because they did fabulously.
I’m gonna miss this show! I hope Korea can repeat itself. I’m seeing such great things about The Eighth Sense -- I can’t wait to get back into my regular swing of things and check out more Korean BLs and how they’re improving over time.

hi! any recommendations for redemption arc fics? :)
Hi. I'm not really sure how to classify redemption arc fics, I'm sorry 😭 I just included here fics which I think fit that theme.
* s - contains smut
J U N G K O O K
Sweet Apology by thesvnsins - drabble (s) / established relationship Summary: You are mad at Jungkook because he ditched you to go with his friends. Now, in the morning he is trying to gain your forgiveness by sinful means....not that you mind.
Are You Going to Stay? by hollyhomburg - one shot (s) / wc~6.4k / old friends to lovers, idol au Summary: It’s been a year since he last saw you, and every day he misses you more. It was only a matter of time until he turned up at your door asking for another chance.
Feed Me, Fight Me by yeojaa - one shot (s) / wc~3.5k / boxer!Jungkook, established relationship Summary: What do you get when you mix a pissed off girlfriend with a neglectful boyfriend? (Aside from trouble, that is.)
Gotcha by whatifyoulivelikethat - one shot (s) / wc~11k / childhood friends to lovers, college au Summary: The color blue. Two white hairpins. “Hey, Jungkook.” A laugh with shaking shoulders that Jeon Jungkook thought he would hear and see forever. Hey, Jungkook. But then those words became a memory, until she was standing in front of him again, sporting the title of “Virgin Killer” and Min Yoongi by her side. Was this his second chance or just another memory?
Habits of a Broken Heart by softykooky - one shot / wc~26.3k / art student!Jungkook, English student!reader, subtle enemies to lovers, soulmates au Summary: Jungkook and you are soulmates. So says the matching crescent moons on both your wrists. However, things are never as easy as they seem, and you are quick to learn that falling in love with someone who does not believe in love is a one-way ticket to heartbreak. Alternatively, “you still are, you know. Worth it.” You release a shaky breath. “but I was stupid to think that I am too.”
Second Chances by parkhabits - one shot (s) / wc~14.4k / exes to lovers, divorce au Summary: Work. One of the most important things to him. It kept him company at night, it was all he thought about, all he put his attention to. His work had become the mistress within your marriage. Years after you left him you’re back with only one goal in mind. Get him to sign the damn divorce papers. Yet you shouldve known that your husband wouldn’t let you go that easily.
Still With Me? by magicalmarauder - one shot / wc~4k / boxer!Jungkook, established relationship Summary: Dating the world’s fastest growing boxer meant several things – kissing his wounds at the end of every fight, watching countless boxing matches to study new techniques with him, and worrying like crazy as different men every night tried to bash his face in. But what happens when tensions run high after a match and Jungkook throws your support back in your face? Angst/fluff. Inspired by Jungkook’s Instagram post earlier today!
Wherever There Is You by jeonstudios - one shot / wc~4.6k / established relationship, divorce au Summary: Anniversary. Dinner for two, yet you’re alone. You don’t know where he is.
Empty Space by ahundredtimesover - two shots (s) / police officer!Jungkook, ex-FWB Summary: It started as friendship, turned to a casual fuck, then ended in heartbreak. Turns out, he wasn’t who he said he was, and years later he enters your life again, forcing you to face all the emotions you’d been trying to bury. OR Officer Jeon looks really hot in his uniform and you wish you didn’t hate him as much as you do.
Glitter and Disquiet by joheunsaram - two shots (s) / CEO!Jungkook, YouTuber!reader, enemies to lovers, chaebol au Summary: Poised to inherit Korea’s largest gaming company in a few months, the world looks at Jeon Jungkook as a symbol of envy. Why wouldn’t they? He has everything, riches, power, and according to the rumour mill, endless women. Little do they know that his father’s company is on the verge of downfall, he barely has respect of his employees, and regardless of the rumours, he’s just a virgin saving himself for true love.
After Midnight by gyukult - series (s) / fuckboy!Jungkook, doctor!reader Summary: Jeon Jungkook only likes seeing you after midnight.
Fight for You by ahundredtimesover - series (s) / bodyguard!Jungkook, heiress!reader Summary: Working at a private security agency has its perks. The downside? Being the personal bodyguard of spoiled, rich heiresses like you. But there are things that Jungkook didn’t expect, like rejecting you, falling for you, and realizing what he’d been missing all along.
Four Seven Eight by jiminrings - series / actress!reader, established relationship Summary: You’re secure when it comes to loving Jungkook, knowing that your husband loves you beyond words. What you aren’t so secure about is his first love — someone who isn’t you. Alternatively, Jungkook’s married to you, but he still celebrates his anniversary with his ex out of sentimentality.
Lunchbox Lovers by jiminrings - series / stem major!Jungkook, cold senior!reader Summary: Cold senior!Y/N having a crush on shy stem major!Koo.
Stockholm Syndrome by taleasnewastime - series (s) / strangers to lovers, gang au Summary: You’d tried so hard to run away from your troubled childhood. Then a beautiful stranger shows up and befriends you, but not everything about him is as it seems.
T A E H Y U N G
Let Love Be Enough by jingabitch - one shot (s) / wc~9.4k / ex-husband!Taehyung, infidelity, exes au Summary: On the day of your daughter’s wedding, you can’t avoid Taehyung.
Saudade by chateautae - one shot (s) / wc~16k / choreographer!reader, established relationship, idol au Summary: A demanding idol lifestyle was something Taehyung and yourself were all too familiar with. It wasn’t so hard when considering your unconditional love for one another, but lately, Taehyung wasn’t the same anymore; and you decide it’s time to find out why.
The Maze to You by cupofteaguk - one shot / wc~9k / soulmates au Summary: Turns out you won’t be getting the storybook soulmate journey you were promised when you have a dream of a boy named Kim Taehyung at a frat party.
A Long Journey Home by crystaljins - two shots / coworkers au, fantasy au Summary: All you wanted was to confront your flaky coworker, Taehyung, not get dragged across a magical fantasy realm trying to deliver a baby dragon safely back to its home kingdom.
Vacancy by ppersonna - two shots (s) / FWB, idol au Summary: Spending the night with Taehyung was like standing too close to a fire. The warmth, pleasant at first, became a ravaging inferno soon after.
Because of You, Blue by ugh-yoongi - series (s) / exes to lovers Summary: Nearly a year out from your breakup with Taehyung, Jin begs you for help saving his failing restaurant. The two of you aren’t exactly friends, but you feel some stupid sense of obligation and, really, what’s the worst that could happen?
Caught in the Crossfire by taleasnewastime - series (s) / strangers to lovers, assassin au Summary: Taehyung kills people, he isn’t ashamed to admit it (though it’s not something he shouts about). To date he has never found a reason that someone didn’t deserve to die. That the person hadn’t committed some hideous act. That the world wouldn’t be a better place without them in it. But that was before he got sent your information.
Pulse by rohobi - series (s) / exes to lovers, medical au Summary: You fell in love with Kim Taehyung during Medical School. Now living totally different lives in completely different hospitals, you’re pulled together again as if by fate during a code black when someone plants a bomb in your hospital.
S E O K J I N
Make It Right by yutasthetic - drabble (s) / established relationship Summary: You feel bored with your relationship with Jin and it makes you wonder if you two will last.
Prove Me Wrong by oftenderweapons - drabble / established relationship Summary: Kissing to prove there’s no chemistry, even though it’s a lie, the kiss proving it.
Fall in Hatred by jimlingss - one shot / wc~20k / established relationship, divorce au Summary: You and Jin are over. When you’d rather stay with the spider that’s set up shop in the bathroom (and who’s become your new pet) than with your ‘husband’ in the living room, you know things aren’t good. But when your entire, overbearing family gathers at the summer house and you’re forced to drag him along, escaping from him isn’t so easy anymore. And maybe…just maybe…you’ll have a change of heart.
Love, Lust, and Life Mushrooms by miscelunaaa - one shot (s) / wc~7k / established relationship Summary: Jin has had a very specific fantasy for a long time, and he’s decided that he wants to make it a reality. Will your relationship be strong enough for the strain this puts on it? Or will the two of you come out of it stronger than ever?
Once Bitten, Twice Shy by fantasybangtan - one shot / wc~15k / enemies to lovers, doctors au Summary: Working a twenty-four hour shift at the hospital was pretty low on the list of things you’d hoped to be doing on Christmas eve. Fortunately for you, doctor Kim - golden boy of the ward and, coincidentally, your arch nemesis - is around to keep things interesting.
With You by yoonpobs - one shot (s) / wc~22.1k / established relationship, divorce au Summary: Marrying your childhood best friend was not the love story that most painted it to be. You knew that better than anyone else.
Exes and Superher-o’s by kpopfanfictrash - two shots (s) / exes to lovers, superheroes au Summary: As a well-known superhero, you’re not unaccustomed to the everyday stresses of life. Whether you’re off fighting supervillains, navigating the city subway at night, or convincing your handler you’re not about to have a nervous breakdown, you know you’re well-equipped for whatever life throws your way. Unless said obstacle is your annoying ex-boyfriend, who also happens to be the most famous superhero of all time and a constant thorn in your side. Oh, and now he’s your new partner.
Riptide by jimilter - two shots (s) / established relationship Summary: It takes a foolishly trivial incident to unravel how astonishingly little you and Seokjin actually understand each other. It has you questioning your relationship, and him? Well, he’s questioning his whole life.
River Lead Me Home by crystaljins - series / childhood friends to lovers, fantasy au Summary: Ever since coming to the human realm when you were child, nothing seems to fit, and this was just supposed to be a simple roadtrip to help you find yourself. Is that too much to ask for?
The Catch by hamsterclaw - series (s) / exes to lovers Summary: Your daughter is the most important person in your life. Her father? Not so much. He's been away for years, and now he wants to come back.

You misunderstood me I never said the younger ones involved with these celebs need to worry about what’s going on in the world. And I have no idea what they do personally none of us do.
The anon could use her energy she focuses on David to help get people elected to office who want to codify Roe v Wade and ensure LGBTQ rights are protected and the John Lewis Voting Rights Act get passed. I volunteer and give to try to make these things happen. Politics effects us all and I’m so happy Senator Warnock was re-elected. Anon redirect your energy from celebs personal lives and focus on helping others. Just saying.
I cross paths with rich people and see the almost slavish worship of kept woman and gigolos in front of their lovers. There is nothing there but a slavish desire to please their masters and preserve their youth. Despite the luxury clothes that they kept woman and gigolos wear to meetings, it's a pathetic sight if you look closely. Kept women and gigolos are sure that they have received a "lucky ticket" and they are not interested in anything else. The main thing is to keep this "lucky ticket" in your hands or in another "place". Problems in the world? What do these problems have to do with them? A rich old man or a rich woman pays for the lives of their kept women, and you say that they should be interested in some problems in the world that do not concern them. Crazy fans of any celebrity will protect their idols, whatever they do. So telling such fans to redirect their efforts to something else is useless.

It was either the death of the company his forefathers have spent their lives on to build or ruin his group’s career. Some say being a crazy rich asian was interesting, but being a crazy rich idol can’t help but peek our interest.

1: The Han Family
Some call them aristocratic, some called them bourgeois and others called them elites, the selected few of a society. Those words— none of them could deny, but they didn’t wake up one day to all the wealth they have, it has been generations of blood, sweat and tears. The Han was famous for many things, they were famous for their hotels and restaurants, hospitals, and export of Korean products. The increase of the Hallyu wave brought them even larger incomes, soon enough they became the biggest exporters of Kpop albums and merchandise. However, they were famous for another thing, it was a grand land only for the household members. THe lots were filled with mansions big, wide and expensive. The lot, big enough to house a neighborhood in Seoul, was called The Villas.
At the center of the villas was a house bigger and more grandouise than any other house found in the area. It stood in its yellowish white glory. The pillars were big and broad, the rooms were palace-like, each individual room was huge enough to be called a master’s suite.
In this house stayed the head of the family, the CEO of the company and owner of the huge enterprise. The position has been passed down to the male heirs who carry the Han last name in order to honor the name Han group of companies. Likewise, the current head was named Han Sungjin, a man in his early 40’s that was not only the head of this company, but is considered as the richest man in Korea. A man both adored and feared for his work style, he was a monster— a monster tycoon.
“Opening an airline isn’t a trip to the park, you do realize that?” Sungjin’s hands were stuck together as he straightened his back as all the board members were sitting in the conference room of the HGOC headquarters.
“We never said it was easy, we’re saying it’s a smart move!” a woman whose hair was slowly turning gray day by day gives the younger man a glare. She wasn’t the CEO, but she was held just as highly as he was, her name was Han Hyebin, Sungjin’s older sister.
“It is the most logical step after the success with our overseas shipping company, sir.” The man roughly 30 years old still regarded Sungjin with respect even if he grew up running inside the main house with him. The man then pulls up his sleeves as he gently bows his head, the light brown hair falls to his face. Yoo Jiho had the exact same hair color as his mother’s. Han Hyebin.
“I want to hear your opinion” Sungjin turns towards the barely young adult beside him. He was quietly tilting his head from side to side as he listened to the elders banter amongst themselves. His eyes grow wide in shock, he tries to open his mouth a few times before taking a deep breath.
“If we are to continue to venture into the market, what kind of services will we offer, will we be like Emirates where they offer luxury or would it be budget? Which of the two is more likely to gain our expenses and by how much?” he turns to look at the presenter. The presenter was a non-Han member, he wanted to create another company under Han in order for him to lead the company under the financial help of Han.
The presenter stays quiet, he fidgets around his papers trying to look for the non-existent data that he needed. “Another question, why should we open our own airline when we could just buy one that’s already existing?” the young adult sits up straight while his expression remains stoic.
The presenter’s eyes went shaky and Sungjin immediately noticed this. “If you aren’t prepared to answer these questions we should end this meeting right now, I don’t want to waste my time,” Sungjin was cruel when it came to time and he wasn’t enjoying the fact that he was wasting it with a presenter who did not do his research at all.
Once Sungjin stood up, all the members of the family followed suit. It was an unspoken rule that when one of the heads of the company leaves, especially the CEO, the executive committee meeting is over. People could only bow their heads as they all walked past, they were cold, but commendable people. Their eyes stabbed daggers, but they would never turn their backs on someone who needs their help.
“Sanghyuk!” Jiho runs to walk beside his younger cousin. Sanghyuk, who often had a stoic face in the office, gives his cousin a small smile.
“You really resemble your father sometimes,” Jiho couldn’t believe that what had happened was Sanghyuk’s first executive committee meeting. The young boy could only shyly smile, the hours he spent listening to his father’s lectures and teaching him what was needed for a business venture to succeed all boiled down to this opportunity. “You really are next to succeed that throne huh?”
Sanghyuk slightly flinched at the way he called it. There was truth in the way Jiho called it out, they were more like an empire rather than a business, CEOs were already assigned even before they were born. They were like royalties with an elaborate system that they were not allowed to defer from; a prison dressed in luxury.
“However, the next CEO can not be dilly dallying with some idol stuff,” Hyebin was not the type of person to show her disappointment towards the next heir.
“Noona!” The way Sungjin glared at his older sister made the whole group shut up.
Hyebin raised her head higher and quickened her walking pace, until she was the first inside the elevator and out of Han headquarters. Sungjin turned the corner and entered his room, his son followed behind closely. The several other members of Han proceeded to return to their own offices.
“I’m guessing you have to leave” Sungjin hasn’t even sat down when he addressed his son whose table sat in his office.
Sanghyuk only bowed his head. “I have practices today. The concert that I’ve mentioned, I’ll be preparing for it,” he looks up to his father, who is now sitting down on his office chair.
“Alright!” Sungjin takes a deep breath. “Make sure you give it everything you’ve got, your sister and I will be watching.” Sungjin gives his son a small smile before sending him off.
Sanghyuk leaves Han headquarters that sat in Seoul’s business district down to his company agency. The small scale building stood nowhere in comparison to Han headquarters, it was a small building with the number of employees being somewhere around a thousand, only. It was a small business compared to what he ran, but due to circumstances, he has not revealed his identity except for their CEO who recognized him as soon as he auditioned for the company.
The small building, although nothing like the one’s his family owned, felt like a place where he could be himself, an escape from his prison cell. As soon as he opened the door to the practice room everyone was heavily breathing, a thin fog was beginning to form on the mirrors even with an air conditioner running.
“He’s here!” the dance teacher calls out and every person turns their heads towards him.
It wasn’t uncommon for Sanghyuk to arrive later than everyone else. The eighteen year old was in his last year of high school, thus he always came late for practice. However, little is known about where he goes to school. The members have never seen Sanghyuk wearing his uniform. He would leave the dorms extra early to return to his family home and wear his uniform there. He said that it was because his family home was much closer to where his school was, which was not entirely a lie.
“How was school?” Ken, one of his members, approached the youngest member.
“It was the same, you know, they teach; you sleep,” Sanghyuk puts his bag down before taking off the sweater he had on. The room was too humid and hot to be wearing something that thick inside.
“Well get your body warmed up and then join us when you’re ready!” The leader, Hakyeon instructs the youngest members.
It was a bit later that Sanghyuk joined the group. The amount of choreography he had to master and lyrics he has to remember was greater than his members, this was the price of being late. He was a boy smarter than people his age, but he lacked in terms of what he was passionate for. He wasn’t exactly the perfect idol material, unlike his members, he wasn’t as talented as they were in singing and he wasn’t as great as a dancer his members were. However, he was persistent. His persistence is a result of the constant reminder that his ancestors built their empire on pure blood, sweat, tears and luck. Since he was old enough to remember, his grandfather, the late Han Juyeon, told him stories of how his grandfather, Sihyuk, the founder of Han group of companies, suffered in poverty. The war stricken nation and his family not being of any power, every head and heir carried that image of hardship that their ancestors went through.

A/N: I'm so sorry this took so long to get out 😭 Truthfully, I've been very in-between discontinuing this story to re-write it and release it as a one shot, or just continuing it as is. I don't want to disappoint you guys as readers and not release chapters regularly because of #life; at the same time, I don't want to force myself to write and make something that lacks ingenuity either ☹ Nonetheless, I did choose to go by the latter, but at my own pace, without being too hard on myself. I love the ease of fanfic and low-commitment to be "perfect" (I mean this in the best way possible 💀). Thank you for waiting patiently for this chapter, even if it might not be that special! Your messages and support have kept me going.
Admittedly, this is kind of a "filler" chapter, but it starts to establish Jisoo's character, as well as the differences between Jisoo vs Seungcheol. Please look forward to chapter six sometime in the near future - things will start getting spicy 🙊
As always, I would love to hear your thoughts on the stories, characters, constructive criticism, etc - anything goes!! Thank you for reading 💙

You were on edge for the rest of the evening.
During dinner you’d duck your head every time a waiter came by, even though Jisoo was in charge of serving tables across the huge dining hall. During dessert, your eyes would linger behind you while carefully spooned the delicate cake in front of you. Wonwoo, always having been observant, watched you throughout the course of the meal, noting the change in your demeanor from when he met you earlier. Though you were timid and soft-spoken, there was clearly something else making you nervous.
“Everything okay?” Wonwoo leaned in and asked softly. He tapped your shoulder, and even at this small gesture, you jumped.
“Uhh, y-yeah,” you laughed nervously. “Just . . . um . . . first time jitters, that’s all.”
“Oh,” Wonwoo hummed. He didn’t really believe you but decided not to push you about it. He crossed his arm over his chest. “I wish I could tell you different, but unfortunately these events – or environments don’t get easier. You do get used to it though.”
You smiled and shrugged. “You say that as if I’m going to be here forever.”
A look of surprise passed over Wonwoo’s face at your answer; he wasn’t sure if you were joking or not. He reached over and plucked at an invisible piece of lint on the table, quietly contemplating your answer. Settling back into his seat, he turned it over and over in his head before replying.
“You make it sound as if you don’t want forever with him?” Wonwoo finally asked in an even tone.
“I mean, yes I like him, but we’re only dating, Wonwoo,” you replied. Your voice shook slightly; you took a deep breath, hoping it would hide any signs of nervousness regarding your lies that Wonwoo would detect. The last thing you needed this evening was to already blow your cover with your fake boyfriend’s high-class friend.
Wonwoo returned your answer with a blank stare. His hands were neatly crossed in his lap, a serene expression settling on his face.
When he didn’t respond, you chortled nervously and continued trying to explain yourself. “I’m – you know, marriage, is . . . a bigdeal, like forever and ever! I’ve known Seungcheol for a long time already, but I don’t know if I want to . . . do ‘forever and ever’ with him.”
“You sound like a fuck girl,” Wonwoo prompted. He cocked his head to the side and raised an eyebrow at your curiously. The corner of his lips upturned in a mischievous smile.
“I-I’m not . . . No! I don’t mean it like that!”
“Really now?”
“I like him enough – “
“Oof, that sounds just as bad.”
“Wonwoo!”
“Relax, relax!” Wonwoo let out a hearty laugh, “I get it.”
He leaned over and settled his elbows on his knees. You crinkled your brows together, your heart racing, wondering just what did Wonwoo ‘get’ from your aimless stuttering.
“You’re cute when you’re flustered,” Wonwoo finally said to you.
Heat immediately crawled up your spine and colored your ears red.
“Though you’re definitely . . . different from the other girls Cheol has introduced me to, I can see why he likes you,” Wonwoo continued.
You furrowed your brows in confusion and pressed your lips trying to suppress the oncoming frown. Once again, that unsettling feeling swarmed your chest at the comment of you being ‘different’ from ‘other girls.’
Was it a good thing? A bad thing?
Is it why Jisoo showed no particular interest in you?
“I . . . appreciate your . . . honesty and . . . realism,” Wonwoo said, interrupting your musing. He nodded to himself, happy with his word selection. “It’s a lot to take in, dating the son of a chaebol. You . . . don’t know if you want to indulge in such a life for, well, the rest of your life. Though ‘forever and ever’ with a rich man sounds nice,” Wonwoo sucked in a sharp breath, “It’s . . . not.”
Wonwoo stared off into the distance fondly, clearly, his train of thoughts no longer focused on you. His sharp eyes were downcast with a nostalgic glint glossing over them. His dark bangs shielded whatever emotion was filling his eyes. Subconsciously, you lifted a hand and placed it on Wonwoo’s shoulder to comfort him.
“Wonwoo – “
“Hey – let’s go,” Seungcheol called from behind you. He was out of breath, resting a hand on the back of your seat.
You turned to see him waving a set of keys. Your hand still on Wonwoo’s shoulder, your eyes automatically lit up, shoulders visibly relaxing.
“Leaving so soon already?” Wonwoo cleared his throat. “Dessert was just an hour ago.”
“Babygirl has class tomorrow,” Seungcheol explained as if it was obvious, though his attention was clearly not on Wonwoo. Rather, he curiously eyed your delicate fingers wrapped around Wonwoo’s shoulder. He shook his head, ridding his mind of turbulent thoughts and continued to explain, “Her overbearing older brother also threatened to rip my balls off if I didn’t bring her home before 11PM so – “
“Seungcheol!” you protested.
He only gave you a mischievous grin. Wonwoo chuckled at your dynamic.
“In that case, it was a pleasure to meet you Y/N,” Wonwoo said, slipping out of your soft grip. He offered you a hand and you hesitated to take it. “I won’t kiss your hand again if that’s what you’re wondering.”
You felt heat crawl up your face, quickly grabbing Wonwoo’s hand for a brief one-beat handshake before gathering your bag and scurrying to Seungcheol’s side. Immediately, Seungcheol made a point to grab for your hand and tightly laced his with your own.
“See you around, man,” Seungcheol waved with his other hand. He turned around and tugged you along towards a dimly lit corridor. You didn’t recognize this as the same place you entered. You side glanced at Seungcheol briefly.
“Why are we going out towards the back?” you whispered to him.
“It brings too much attention to us if we leave through the front,” he replied simply.
You furrowed your brows at his comment, unsure at what it meant.
“Was Mr. Kang okay with us leaving? Did he suspect anything?”
Seungcheol scoffed. “It’s Mr. Kang, he’s alwayssuspecting something.”
You frowned at Seungcheol’s answer and slowed your stride. You eventually stopped at the beginning of a dim corridor. The sound of cold water rushing from the sinks and pots and pans clattering, cluttered the background, diminishing the soft orchestra music that was playing earlier. “You won’t . . . get in trouble for this, will you?”
Seungcheol shook his head and offered you a gentle smile to calm you down. “You are my girlfriend, and my girlfriend and I have class tomorrow that we must be well-rested for and attend. If anything, they should be happy I’m attending class – properly, that is.”
“Attending class normally is out of character for you?” you blurted before you could stop yourself.
“What – no, Y/N, who do you think I am?” Seungcheol pouted. He pushed your shoulder lightly.
“I don’t know! You made it sound like . . . I’m taming you or something,” you crossed your arms over your chest and shrugged.
“Taming? Kinky,” Seungcheol wiggled his eyebrows.
“Shut up!” you raised a fist at him.
Seungcheol grabbed the wrist of your raised arm, quickly trying to unfurl your fingers and link them with his own again. He formed a pitiful pout and shook his shoulders like a child who’s mother refused to buy him ice cream.
“Let’s just go home!” Seungcheol whined.
“But your dad – “
“Y/N?” a familiar voice called out. You tensed up; the glare you once held now replaced with wide eyes. You didn’t have to look up to know who the voice belonged to.
“Shit,” you heard Seungcheol mutter under his breath. He could tell from the stunned look on your face who was approaching.
“Don’t turn around,” you immediately told Seungcheol.
“What?”
“Don’t. Turn. Around,” you repeated yourself sternly.
“Y/N – “
“If you turn around, he’ll see you,” you cut him off. Your eyes bore into Seungcheol’s own. The older man shifted uncomfortably under your gaze, noticing ghow your red lips were trembling and the way you clenched and unclenched your fists. He’s never seen you this anxious, let alone, over a boy.
“Y/N? Is that you?” Jisoo tried once more, his footsteps getting louder.
You tugged Seungcheol’s arms, nodding towards the back.
“Go,” you urged.
“What?” Seungcheol frowned.
“Go – I’ll meet you . . . somewhere. Just text me.”
Seungcheol stood his ground and stared at you with a hardened expression.
“Seungcheol please,” you begged.
He finally let out a sigh and shook his head, giving you one last look before he took off in a jog. Instantly, you felt a weight off your chest; however, your heart was quick to skip a beat when Jisoo’s soft voice called out to you again.
“Y/N, it is you,” Jisoo chuckled, now only standing a few feet away from you. His eyes lingered on the man who was now running from you.
“Hey,” you said softly.
“Hi,” Jisoo replied. He smiled at you, his eyes crinkling up into half-crescents. “What are you doing here?”
“I’m here with a friend,” you answered suspiciously fast, “How about you?”
“I am unfortunately,” Jisoo gestured towards his now-stained attire, “A waiter this evening – covering for a friend.”
“Nice,” you said instinctively.
“Is it really?” Jisoo chuckled.
“I meant – that was . . .n-nice of you,” you quickly corrected yourself.
A beat passed before Jisoo took another step towards you; you couldn’t help but gulp and bite your lips trying to hide the way your body was burning in all places right now. You were alone with your crush in a pretty venue with lighting that was just right to highlight its beautiful features. His deep brown eyes glowed in the dim lighting, a shadow casted just perfectly across the slope of his nose. His once neatly combed hair was now falling into his face after running around all evening. The sleeves of his white button up were rolled up to his elbows revealing his toned forearms. Though he was standing casually in front of you with his hands tucked into his pant pockets, you felt so shy and awkward, as if you were back in sixth grade when you first confessed to Lee Chan.
“It’s funny,” Jisoo finally said after a beat. He cleared his throat, forcing you to peer up at him through your lashes. “How we keep running into each other in the most unexpected places.”
Your breath hitched at the way the corner of his lip upturned.
“Y-yeah,” you stuttered.
“Maybe it’s fate?”
“Fate?” You drew your lips in between your teeth. Your heart started pounding loudly in your chest.
Jisoo cleared his throat and straightened his posture. “Yeah, fate – like maybe the universe is telling us we should hang out and be friends outside of work.”
Friends.
You pressed your eyes shut, mentally slapping yourself for thinking, Jisoo was referring to a different kind of fate.
“Right,” you scoffed.
Jisoo cocked his head at you and tilted his chin up at you. “Who’s the friend you came with by the way? Do I know him?”
“Oh,” you blinked, racking your brain for an excuse. Though you were expecting him to ask you about it, you still weren’t prepared to ask him. “His name is . . . “
Suddenly, a tall familiar figure in the distance caught your eye, and it was like those cheesy cartoons where a light bulb pops up above the main character’s head. You felt like a fucking genius.
“Wonwoo,” you finished with a pop. You looked up into Jisoo’s eyes and forced a pleasant smile.
“Wonwoo,” Jisoo repeated after you, trying out the name on his tongue. He squinted his eyes, racking his brain. It was oddly familiar.
“I don’t think you know him though,” you commented, teetering on your heels. “He goes to a different university than you and me both.”
Jisoo nodded.
Suddenly, your clutch began buzzing underneath your arm. You held up a finger to Jisoo, offering him an apologetic smile. Immediately, you unclasped the bag and fished out your phone.
Seungcheol: Come out front.
Seungcheol: I’ll pick you up there.
Seungcheol: It’s less suspicious that way.
Seungcheol: Also, don’t worry if Jisoo follows you out – the windows are tinted.
Quickly clicking your screen dark, you looked up at Jisoo who was waiting for you patiently. You could’ve sworn a look of endearment crossed his face, but you cursed yourself for being delusional – why would he ever look at you that way? He wanted to be your friend.
“I’ve gotta go,” you told him slowly while placing your phone back into your clutch. “Wonwoo’s . . . waiting for me.”
Jisoo nodded and glanced at his watch. “I probably should get back to work too.”
“Well,” you chuckled nervously.
“It was nice seeing you here,” Jisoo finished for you.
Much to your surprise, he raised a hand to your face and cupped your soft cheek, running a thumb gently over the apples. Just as you were about to instinctively lean into his touch, he pulled back and tucked his hand back into his pockets.
He started walking backwards. “I’ll see you at the café?”
“Of course,” you replied, a little breathless.
“You look beautiful tonight, by the way,” Jisoo commented, already a distance aways.
Your mouth opened agape. “W-what?”
Rather than clarifying anything further, Jisoo gave you one last wave, shooting you his signature crescent-eyed smile, before turning around and walking towards the main event area.
You stood there dumbfounded and blushing with a storm of butterflies swirling from the pits of your stomach to your throat.
Hong Jisoo just called you beautiful.

“Yeonjun…” his name came out like a whisper. You didn’t know what to do or say. You couldn’t fathom the betrayal and hurt that he must be feeling right now.
“No, there has to be some type of explanation to this. She wouldn’t do this. Why would she? She practically raised me.”  He wasn’t listening, just rambling. Trying to make sense of why he heard her voice on the other end of the line.
All of you stayed silent, looking at him with concerned and horrified facial expressions.
“Why would she do this. It doesn’t make sense.”
“Hyung…it does kind of explain why you could never find anything. She’s an in-house maid, she could have erased all traces and-”
“No, shut up. She wouldn’t do that.”
“Yeonjun maybe-” Mia tries to talk but Yeonjun cut her off too.
“No, no. Stop. I don’t want to hear it. This woman, she’s the one that sat with me at night so I didn’t have to eat dinner alone, she bathed me, fed me, read me bedtime stories. It can’t be her.” He didn't know who he was trying to convince. Maybe himself?
Yeonjun wasn’t stupid. He knew what it meant when she answered the phone, but he couldn’t accept it. How could he ever trust anyone ever again if this turned out to be true?
He turned around on his heels so he didn’t have to face you guys, getting lost in thought as he pursed his lips together while running his hand through his hair. He was trying incredibly hard not to cry, until the thought of almost losing you crossed his mind, making a tear escape anyway.
He threw his head back, wiping the single tear from his eye, not wanting to break down in front of all of you. He needed to stay level headed and think rationally. But why was it so god damn hard for him this time when he always managed to pull through?
“She knows how much I love y/n,” he mumbles to no one in particular, but you all heard it and suddenly your heart wrenched in your chest.
He really does love you.
Even though your relationship was far from, well…a relationship. Yeonjun never shied away from expressing his feelings out in the open. Ever since he realized he loved you, he basically never shut up about it to the people around him; even under these circumstances.
You watch him with sad eyes. You didn’t get time to process what happened to you literally minutes ago, but none of it mattered anymore.
You had to set your feelings aside to be there for him.
You’ll heal from it some other time…right?
“Maybe getting to her would cause your breakdown? Meaning you won’t go for the CEO position in the future. You told us she’s the one who told you to come back here, maybe it’s because she didn’t want you to ruin her plans…” Mia says trying to piece things together, and Yeonjun hated to admit it; but it made perfect sense.
Lita knows that if he lost you, he’d completely break down and lose focus. He'd lose the will to succeed because he wouldn't have anyone left to live for.
He’d rather die than have anything happen to you, and maybe that’s dramatic, but it was no lie.
You got up from your chair and walked over to him. You hold onto his forearm before moving in front of him to announce your presence in case you’d startle him, and when his eyes landed on you his pained facial expression completely disappeared.
It’s like you were a remedy to his broken soul. Every time he laid eyes on you, touched you, or kissed you, he healed a little.
You don’t say anything and just wrap your arms around his waist, pressing your cheek against his chest. His heart was beating fast as he wrapped his arms around you to hug you back. He needed this. He needed you.
All you wanted was for him to be okay. For everything to go back to normal and to take away his pain but all of this was just too fucking crazy to wrap your mind around.
He rested his chin on top of your head and closed his eyes in solace as he sighed. Giving himself a second to breathe before he untangled himself from you without making eye contact.
“I have to call my mom,” he mumbles without emotion.
You look at him a little puzzled, as did Soobin and Mia who gave each other  looks of confusion at his suddenly changed attitude.
He always does this. He always pushes his emotions aside in the blink of an eye and gets back to business as if it’s nothing.
Yeonjun disappears into your bedroom with his phone as he closes the door behind him. The closed door was enough for all three of you to understand to give him space, and so you did.
With a heavy head and a heavy heart, you sit down at your dinner table again, not feeling Mia and Soobin’s worried eyes on you as you bury your face in your hands. Soobin scooted closer to you and rubbed your back in warming up and down motions to assure you of his presence and Mia, who was sitting across from you, simply grabbed your hand with both of hers.
You sit like that in silence for god knows how long. You were trying to piece things together and process everything that has happened to you and then it hit you.
Every decision Yeonjun has made up until now was to protect you from the unimaginable which somehow became imaginable.
And suddenly you felt bad for hating him. You hated him for loving you enough to let you go in favor of your own wellbeing. But God knows you did not think of any danger of this caliber.
It was only months ago that your meaningless crush on Yeonjun got the best of you. If someone from the future would’ve told you that this would be the outcome of pursuing him, you’d probably punch that person in the face for being ridiculous, yet here you are.
Completely and utterly broken, afraid, tired, and still in love.
And despite everything, you’d still choose to be with Yeonjun if you got to hit the re-do button.
Yeonjun emerged from your bedroom and as you heard the door creak open your head immediately snapped into his direction.
His face held an expression you couldn’t quite read, so you sigh. You bite your lip in anticipation as you watch him pull out a chair of your dining table, waiting for him to sit down and speak up.
“My mom didn’t believe me at first.”
“What? Why?” Mia asks with big eyes.
“Well, can you blame her? She has worked for your family since you were born hyung, this is a big accusation.” Soobin says as he tries to comfort Yeonjun by patting the hair that had grown out in the nape of Yeonjun’s neck. His eyes closed at the physical comfort and he leaned into Soobin’s touch for a split second. The sight was endearing, yet extremely sad.
“She told me she’s letting her people look into it. We can’t contact the police or talk to anyone about what happened. We’ll have to keep a low profile and return to our regular lives so we won’t raise suspicion. My mom will keep me updated and send security to keep us safe in the meantime. They’ll be on guard from tomorrow morning, we won’t even notice they’re here.” Yeonjun explains as if he’s leading a business meeting. All that was missing was a PowerPoint presentation. “Also, that’s evidence,” he says pointing to the cracked phone and the knife in the middle of your dinner table. “We need to put it somewhere safe and make sure no one else touches it.”
The three of you look at him a little dumbfounded.
“What do you mean by her people?” Soobin asks.
“Private detectives,” Yeonjun answers as If it’s nothing.
Private detectives, security, assassins, betrayal. What in the fuck has your life turned into? The things people would do to get to the Choi’s fortunes baffled you, and once again you were at a loss for words.
“Yeonjun, that’s a lot to process,” you say rubbing your forehead as the pain returns. Your hangover never really left you and now it was replaced with a whole new one.
“So, if we have security starting from tomorrow morning…what about tonight?” Soobin asks looking from you to Mia and back to Yeonjun.
“I suggest I stay with y/n. You stay with Mia.” Yeonjun says with a straight face.
You stare at him and make eye contact, and just before you wanted to say something, he interrupts you; knowing what you were going to ask him.
“Please don’t ask me if I’m okay y/n, I’m not.” He sighs as he avoids eye contact, playing with his fingers to distract himself from all of your eyes on him. “I’ll completely shut down if I let myself feel right now. I need to be level headed. I’ll deal with it later.”
Later. It’s always later with him, but when will later be too late?
You all stay quiet for a short while. Your minds going into overdrive and suddenly you felt crippling anxiety wash over you as the memory of that man trying to break your lock comes back to you.
Yay, another trauma to add to the list.
“What if he comes back…” you say in a whisper. Your voice cracked in fear and Yeonjun’s eyes darted to yours. Immediately heartbroken as you pulled your knees up to your chest. Hugging yourself to feel something warmer than the chills running down your spine at the thought of not feeling safe in your own home.
“I’m not leaving you,” Yeonjun says with determination in his eyes.
You all had school tomorrow, and if you all had to act as if nothing happened tonight, the four of you would need at least some sleep.
After going over the game plan once more paired with a lot of convincing that you’d be alright with just Yeonjun being here, Soobin left with Mia.
Aside from everything, you were glad they left together so they could talk and hash a few things out. Even though you didn’t know what your dynamic with Yeonjun would be like once the two of you were alone together, having more people in your apartment would only make you even more restless than you already were.
The truth is, you had no idea how to act around Yeonjun anymore.
Too much has happened and too much was weighing down on the both of you to be able to talk about it; so when you closed your front door, you froze before turning around.
He was on your couch, furiously typing to what you assume to be his mother and you know better than to ask about it, so you just awkwardly make your way over to him.
“Uhm…I still have a few of your clothes here. You could shower and change if that makes you feel any better,” you say as you look at him, anxiously waiting for him to look back at you.
He lifted his head from his phone and stared at you, and then at his surroundings as he only now noticed that Mia and Soobin had left already.
His furrowed eyebrows relaxed as he laid eyes on you, and his shoulders fell in relief as he nodded.
“Yes, thank you. I’ll go do that,” he says with a soft smile and an almost too polite tone.
It was as if you were strangers. The tension in the room was noticeable so you averted your attention on the box filled with his stuff next to your front door.
“I-it’s in there.” You stutter as you get up. Silently retrieving it to hand it to him.
You were going to send his stuff back to him, figuring your relationship was basically doomed in the past week.
He held a neutral facial expression as he took the box from you. His fingers lightly ghosting over yours as he grabbed it from your hold. “You packed my stuff?” he asks as he sets the box aside on your couch.
He wasn’t hurt. In fact, he completely understood. But in some way you wanted him to be hurt.
You wanted him to show you any other emotion than the stoic expression he was holding now.
“I…well, y-yeah.”  you avoid his stare out of insecurity, and he seemed to notice.
“Hey, shhh. I don’t blame you. I get it, really,” he says as he got up from the couch, getting to eye level with you.
He gave you a faint smile as he caressed your cheek with his thumb.
The Yeonjun you fell in love with would litter your face with kisses to make sure you felt reassured. He’d hug you tightly. Try to make you smile and hold you until you felt better. But the Yeonjun in front of you just turned around, grabbing the box again before he made eye contact once more. “Go to bed, don’t be afraid. I’ll be sleeping on the couch so nothing can happen to you okay?”
You nod absentmindedly, avoiding his eyes.
He gave you one last look before he made his way over to your bathroom and locked the door. By doing this he created a distance he hadn’t created before and suddenly you felt hollow.
'Oh my god, he locked the door.' you think to yourself.
He’s distancing himself from you because he’s in pain. But he wouldn’t tell you that with actual words because he didn’t know how.
And if he broke down now, he wouldn’t stop.
You stood there in the exact same spot for at least another 30 seconds. Listening to him turn on the faucet of your shower.
There was nothing you wanted more at the moment than to join him. Massage his sore muscles, and hold him close to be his security blanket but you can’t. And even if you could, you don’t know if you should.
After chugging down a glass of cold water while staring at your front door in paranoia you reluctantly made your way to your bed.
You were tossing and turning, trying to hear if Yeonjun already finished getting ready for bed.
When you heard the faucet close and the door of your bathroom unlock, something inside of you hoped that he’d change his mind and crawl into your bed with you, but after 5 long and agonizing minutes of waiting, you gave up on the probability of him doing so.
You hated this.
You hated that he was so close, yet so far, and you hated even more that you were the one who created this distance.
The two of you never got to really talk, meaning he was just being respectful and mindful of your wishes. He was trying to give you the space you asked for but after tonight, you weren’t sure if space was what you needed.
You bite your lip, contemplating if your next move was the right one to make but after a full hour of not being able to fall asleep because of your overthinking ass, you figured you had nothing to lose.
You get out of your bed with your duvet wrapped around you like a cape and make your way to your living room silently, dragging your feet on your wooden floor.
He left a light on in your hallway, which you were happy about because you were able to see his sleeping form on your couch in the warm yet dimmed light.
He was lying on his back. His arms were crossed over his chest and his body faced your front door so he’d be able to see if anything were to happen.
As you got closer to him, you study his facial expression.
His lips were slightly parted and he was breathing slowly. He must’ve been completely exhausted to be able to sleep under these circumstances and you purse your lips together, noticing how his face still held a pained expression even in his sleep.
You unwrap your blanket from yourself and pull it over Yeonjun’s sleeping form as carefully as you could and tuck him in a little.
Your initial plan was to cuddle next to him on your couch, but given how peacefully he was sleeping you decide against it.
Instead, you move a piece from his grown out bangs away from his eyes and kiss his forehead before you got up, ready to walk back to your room until you feel a hand taking a firm hold on your wrist.
You look back in shock, feeling like you got caught. It took everything in you to suppress a yelp and when you made eye contact with him, he chuckled lowly.
He wasn’t asleep at all. In fact, he was struggling with the exact same thoughts.
He opened the covers for you, pulling you down with him without a word and you gladly accepted the invitation.
You nuzzle your face in the crook of his neck as you rest your hand on his chest. He made sure you were completely covered by the blanket as well, and held on to your waist with one hand as the other patted your head in slow, comforting strokes.
Your lashes fluttered closed in solace and he sighed, looking down at you before he kissed your forehead.
The action made you look up at him through your lashes and when you notice his lingering stare you quickly look away, resting your cheek on his chest as you sigh contently.
The cliches were all true. There really is nothing compared to feeling at home in someone’s arms,  and for a moment you forgot about all the trauma and heartbreak.
You kiss his neck, feeling yourself doze off as he kept playing with your hair.
“Yeonjun…” you whisper.
The sound of your voice surprised him. He frowned as he looked down at you, halting his movements.
“Hmm?”
“Just so you know. I never stopped loving you.”

Being in a lecture hall at 9 AM as if nothing had happened last night was literal torture.
You had to hear Mr. Davis ramble about stuff you already knew about, but he took attendance so there was no way you could skip out on it without failing his class.
Though you had gotten a good night’s rest, it was hard to concentrate with everything going on and it was even harder to concentrate knowing you were being watched.
Yeonjun’s mom wasn’t playing when she said that you’d all get personal security as quickly as dawn came. They followed you around disguised as regular college kids and kept their distance. In some moments you forgot they were around but when you looked over your shoulder in the lecture hall as you felt a pair of eyes on you; the reality of things hit you again.
The lecture hall was filled with at least 200 students, so no one would bat an eye at their presence. They blended in perfectly, which was both reassuring yet scary because anyone with malicious intent could be doing the exact same thing.
You kept looking around the lecture hall with suspicion, completely zoning out and not paying attention. Mia, who was sitting next to you was dozing off, so you nudged her to keep her awake.
“You didn’t sleep?” you ask as you move a piece of her hair from her line of sight.
She sighed, shaking her head as she fixes her posture.
“No, Soobin and I stayed up all night to talk and once we fell asleep it was 5 AM,” she whispers.
“Did you…work things out?”
“We talked, we’re nowhere near how it used to be but we agreed on working through this.”
You smiled to yourself. Good. They were both miserable without each other, and even though there were a lot of things left unsaid and unresolved, you were glad things were slowly going back to normal.
“How about you? Did you and Yeonjun talk about it?” She asks looking over her shoulder to see if no one was paying attention to your conversation and you catch yourself doing the same.
“No. I didn’t know how to, and he made it obvious that he didn’t want to talk about it.”
“Well, he’s going to have to sooner than later.”
You nod in agreement. You basically haven’t solved anything with Mia, but it was nice to have her to talk to about all of this. Sort of? There was still a lot of communicating to be done but first, this whole Lita situation had to be fixed.
“We never got to have that conversation back in your apartment either,” Mia says as she reminisced back to the moment your lives turned into an action movie.
“We will, soon.”
“Ladies!” your professor's voice bounced off the walls loudly and you immediately knew you were being called out for talking in his class.
“If you want to talk so badly you should’ve just joined the debate team,” he says clicking his tongue, and suddenly everyone's’ eyes were on both you and Mia.
So much for keeping a low profile...
“Sorry.” You both say in unison.
Just before Mr Davis was about to continue his lecture he made eye contact with you and stopped in his tracks. “Wait, y/n right?”
You frown in surprise, and so does Mia. “Yes, that’s me.”
“Stay after class, there's something I need to talk to you about.”
Your eyes dart to Mia’s but she just shrugs, equally as confused as you are. You simply nod at your professors’ request and just like that he continues his class.
For the remaining half hour of the lecture, you were starting to wonder why he’d want to see you after class. When the lecture ended, you waited for most of the students to exit before you approached him on the stage with Mia trailing behind you after you asked her to.
Your invisible security guards waited outside of the door, and luckily Mr. Davis didn’t notice.
“I’m sorry Mia, this is a private matter.”
Mia gave you a look but you just nodded that it was ok. You were dying to know what was going on by now.
“I’ll see you at lunch,” she says, and you nod as she walked out.
One of the security guards left with her, trailing behind her in the hallway and the other still stood at the entrance of the lecture hall. Watching you and Mr Davis while also skimming his surroundings with his eyes.
You take a deep breath and face your teacher. “You wanted to see me, sir?”
“Yes. Yes, I did.” He walks over to his desk and retrieves a stack of papers from his drawer and you immediately recognize the front page.
It’s the research paper you wrote right before summer. It is the paper you finished writing in the cafeteria when Soobin basically forbid you to date Yeonjun after he came over to your table to flirt with you. The irony of it all was off-putting.
You totally forgot about it. That paper resembled a new beginning in your life somehow, but why would your teacher want to talk to you about it? Was it that bad?
“Did I fail it?” you ask with concern evident in your eyes, but your teacher just gives you a look of confusion and starts laughing at you.
“Fail!? y/n this is the best paper I’ve read in my career as a teacher, that’s 20 whole years.” He says as he sat down on the edge of his desk, giving you a warm smile
Your eyes widen in surprise. “What?”
“Yes, in fact. I sent it to a former colleague at Brown University, and they were so impressed and intrigued by your hypothesis that they want to fund your research.”  He exclaims excitedly.
“I don’t….I don’t think I’m following sir…”
“They want you to spend a semester there, so you can carry out your research. Your return depends on your work tempo and the development period. They’ll provide a living space and take care of all of your expenses. This is huge. y/n. None of my students have gotten an opportunity like this. This is quite the offer and to be blunt. I think you should take it.”
Your mind goes into overdrive.
This is huge. Absolutely huge. A prestigious University like Brown had enough faith in your research to invest actual money into it. How did this happen?
“This…is a lot to take in,” you say a little dazed as you rake your hand through your hair.
“I know, I will send you an email with all of the details. Give it a good thought and let me know by the end of the week. If you decide to go, you’ll leave as soon as possible. I’m so excited for you! You have no idea how big this could be for your future. This could re-write a lot about what we know about neuroscience. It’s groundbreaking.”
He gave you a pat on your shoulder as he started to pack his things into his briefcase. Leaving you with your graded paper in your hand as you look down at it.
You scored a 100.
A hundred? How did this even happen?
It took you a full minute to collect yourself before you were able to walk out of that lecture hall.
You silently made your way outside, taking a deep breath of fresh air before sitting down on a random bench to think things through, but when you heard the door open behind you with your designated security guard nonchalantly standing beside the door as he tried not to disturb you, you scoff in annoyance.
This had to stop. Quickly. You wanted your life back as soon as possible.
You swallow harshly as you stare at the large document in your hands.
Would you be able to leave everything behind for half a year or longer by yourself? Would you be able to leave your friends? Gyu, Tae, Hyuka, Mia, Soobin…Yeonjun.
You couldn’t imagine leaving him out of all of them. Even though Soobin and yourself haven’t spent more than 1 week apart since birth it wasn’t necessarily him you were worried about.
It was Yeonjun. What would this mean for your relationship? And what kind of partner would you be if you decided to leave him behind in the midst of the hardest time in his life?
He needed you and you needed him. But you also knew that you couldn’t let an opportunity like this go for the sake of an undefined relationship with someone who caused you more harm than good.
This was a lot to think about but then it hit you that you didn’t even have the freedom to think.
You checked the time on your phone and realized you were running late to the only class you shared with all 6 of them; Advanced English.
It’s a class that mixed both different years and majors, and all of you applied for it during that picnic before summer, just for the hell of it. All of you wanted to share at least one class together and it was the only available option.
“Shit,” you huff under your breath before you quickly grab your things and make a run for it. Your security guard had trouble following you unnoticed like this, so he decided to keep an even larger distance.
As you make it to the classroom, it was already completely filled as you were the last one to arrive. Your shadow stayed outside, sitting down at an individual study booth where he could keep an eye on things, and you couldn’t be more glad that he didn’t follow you inside.
You apologize to your teacher for being late and make your way to a random table, avoiding the one your friends were sitting at.
All of their eyes darted to you in confusion, but Yeonjun and Soobin looked at you a little worriedly.
“Is she ok? Did she not see us?” Taehyun asks as he cocked his head to the side.
“She had to stay behind in our other class, maybe she’s upset?” Mia explains, shrugging her shoulders.
“Stay behind? Why?” Soobin asks raising his eyebrow as he looks at you with concern.
“I don’t know. Mr. Davis asked me to leave before he spoke to her.”
Beomgyu sighs. “He’s a dick. I hope he didn’t yell at her. He was my guidance coach last year”
“He’s only a dick to people who don’t do shit in his classes,” Hueningkai states rolling his eyes, which earned him a hard punch to his upper arm from Beomgyu.
Yeonjun watched you closely as Gyu and Hueningkai bickered as background noise. He could tell you were stressed by the way you were tapping your heel on the floor while you keep clicking your pen on your notebook. He sighed, closing his books as he grabbed his stuff.
Since the class was about to start, people were looking at Yeonjun for suddenly switching seats. You had no idea what was going on until you hear the chair next to you being pulled back.
Your eyes meet and your anxiety vanishes. He sat down without a word, taking your hand under the table while intertwining your fingers together in an attempt to calm you down.
He didn’t know what had you so out of it, but he figured being hunted by some unknown man commissioned by his housemaid was enough to have you lose your mind.
A few girls seemed to notice Yeonjun’s sweet actions which made them audibly swoon at his loving gesture, which made Taehyun, Beomgyu and Hueningkai gag a little while Mia and Soobin just gave each other knowing looks.
He rubbed those comforting circles into your hand and kissed your temple quickly before averting his attention back on the board.
Luckily this class was followed by a lengthy and desperately needed break. When your professor dismissed you all earlier than expected, your friends make their way to your table just as quickly as Yeonjun turned to face you fully.
You weren’t sure what to tell them yet, but you knew they had questions as to why you were late.
“Hey? Are you ok? Why did Mr. Davis make you stay back?” Soobin asks as he sat down on the corner of your table.
Beomgyu started to randomly play with the ends of your hair, Mia stood beside Yeonjun and Hyuka and Tae stood beside you waiting with anticipation.
You got up, clearing your throat. “Uhm, he wanted to talk to me about the paper I handed in before summer.”
“Oh no, did you fail?” Beomgyu asks with sad eyes.
You shake your head, pulling the report out of your bag, placing it on the table so all of them could look at it.
“A 100!?” Taehyun gasps.
“Wow. You fucking nerd.” Beomgyu says rolling his eyes. “This is why you’re down? What’s wrong with you.” Hueningkai adds as he gently nudges your shoulder.
Yeonjun looks from the paper to you with big and proud eyes. He gives you a tender smile as he caresses your cheek. “This is incredible. I’m so proud of you,” he speaks with sincerity.
You bite your lip as you nod absentmindedly and force out a smile.
“Can we go have lunch. I’m starving.” Taehyun says as he walks out of the classroom first, followed by an equally hungry Beomgyu and Hueningkai.
As they left Soobin turns to you. “Ok, so what’s really wrong.”
“Nothing. The whole being followed everywhere thing is just getting to me I guess.”
“I’m so sorry.” Yeonjun says as he avoids eye contact. His tone was somber, and suddenly you feel bad.
“Hey, look at me,” you say as you tug on his chin. “None of this is your fault. You can’t blame yourself for what’s happening. This is out of your control, do you understand?” your tone was stern as you spoke to him. You talked to him as if you were trying to make a child understand something but it was necessary.
You needed him to understand.
He bit his lip, wanting to disagree with you but Soobin jumped in to back you up. “She’s right. Don’t beat yourself up over this. Everything will be okay.”

You had one more class left for the day but you decided to skip it, not being able to focus on anything else other than the life-changing decision you would have to make soon.
You desperately needed to consult someone about this and even though things weren’t quite the same between you two, the only person you can confide in about something like this was Mia.
Soobin would be too emotionally involved, and even though Mia is too, she’d be more rational about things.
She was on your couch, reading the email Mr. Davis sent you and her eyes widened right before she started yelling.
“WHAT!? BROWN! THIS IS HUGE!?”
“I mean don’t get me wrong, our school is great…but it’s no Brown University.”  she gulps with enlarged pupils.
You sigh, relieved to know that she’s excited for you, but then the inevitable question came up.
“How long? Like a few weeks?” she asks with an excited twinkle in her eyes.
You shake your head. “More like a few months…6 to be exact.”
And suddenly her smile falters. “Oh…”
“Yeah…oh.” You say mimicking her as you sit down next to her.
“I- well…that’s a lot to think about,”  Mia says with a pout. It was finally clicking to her why you were so out of it earlier today.
“I know…” you say as you stare into distance, losing yourself in your thoughts once again.
“What’s holding you back?” Mia asks as she studies you. You look back at her with sad eyes and without a word, she could already guess what you were about to say.
“Yeonjun?” she assumes and you nod in response.
“It just doesn’t seem right to leave him in the midst of all of this.”
“Y/n…don’t you think distance might be exactly what you need from him? If you are meant to be, it’ll be. And if you think of it. Maybe time apart is what you need. This is the perfect opportunity to heal individually and come back as better people…so you can be better together.”
Well. She has a point there.
“It’s not like I want you gone, fuck no. I’m gonna miss you so much and I’m pretty sure Soobin will fall apart without you but…y/n this is a once in a lifetime type of opportunity.” Mia says as she wraps an arm around you.
You sigh, moving into her hold to hug her. She’s surprised by the action, not thinking you were ready for that yet, you know; given everything that happened, but you desperately needed a hug right now. Mia tightened her hold on you and sighed.
“You’ll be okay. And we’ll all just be a phone call away.”
A single tear escapes from your eye and you let go of her, wiping it away while trying to contain your emotions.
You know you have to go. You really do. But what you don’t know is how to tell Yeonjun.
“Will you help me write the email to Mr. Davis? I’m going to tell him that I’m going.”
Mia gave you a weak smile, wiping away the watery remnants of your tear away from your cheek. She sighed, scooting closer to you.
“Of course.”

“Hyung, pass the ball,” Taehyun says with a raised eyebrow as he watches Yeonjun dribble the ball absentmindedly for over 30 seconds.
They had practice, and even though Yeonjun wasn’t feeling up to it at all, he knew he had to go. He had to live his life like he normally would and basketball practice was one of those ‘normal’ things.
Yeonjun snapped out of his thoughts and passed the ball to Taehyun before looking over his shoulder to watch one of the security details on the benches.
A lot of people came to watch during practice, so it wouldn’t be noticeable, but Taehyun has the wit of a mind reader, therefore he immediately caught on to who Yeonjun was looking at.
“Who’s that?” Taehyun asks as he passes the ball back to Yeonjun. He swiftly caught it, looking at Taehyun with wide eyes. “Ehm, don’t know. A scout maybe?”
Taehyun narrowed his eyes at Yeonjun and sighed. “I know you and Soobin are keeping secrets from the rest of us. We’re not dumb hyung, or at least I’m not.”
Yeonjun sighed, rubbing his forehead. “Just trust us. Once all of it is over we’ll tell you.”
“Once what is over?” he tried again.
“Taehyun.” Yeonjun’s voice was strict, it was a clear warning for Taehyun to stop asking questions but the younger one wasn’t quite having it.
He rolled his eyes, dropping the ball as he walked off to a different teammate.
The last thing Yeonjun wanted was to create a distance between all of them but he had no choice. The fewer people knew, the better it’d be.
Soobin stood in the corner, watching them closely, and approached once Taehyun walked off in annoyance.
He sighed, patting Yeonjun on the shoulder which made Yeonjun jump at the unexpected touch.
“Oh, sorry. It’s just me.” Soobin speaks as he fixes a piece of Yeonjun’s hair, which made him smile at Soobin softly.
“The boys are getting suspicious,” Yeonjun states as he eyes them from afar with his arms crossed.
“Yeah, this morning Beomgyu asked me why we were being secretive,” Soobin says doing the same.
“Beomgyu did?”
“Yeah…”
“Well then it must be fucking obvious cause he’s oblivious.”
Soobin chuckled. “Don’t worry about it, they’ll understand once we-” he got cut off by the buzzing of Yeonjun’s phone. Soobin watched Yeonjun carefully as he looked at the caller ID.
“It’s my mom,” Yeonjun says with big eyes.
Soobin lips form an ‘o’ as he steps closer to check his phone. “Well, pick it up?”
“Wait, come with me to the dressing rooms,” Yeonjun says as he drags Soobin with him.
Meanwhile, Beomgyu, Taehyun, and Hueningkai were watching them run off together from the bleachers.
Hueningkai’s eyes followed them as he raised his eyebrows in confusion. “First they don’t talk to each other for a week, and now they don’t talk to us.”
“I don’t know what’s going on with them either,” Beomgyu says as he clings onto Taehyuns arm while resting his head on Tae’s shoulder. “I just want all of us to get along like we used to.”
Taehyun pouts. “Then let’s find out what’s going on with them.”
As the boys kept speculating about the situation, Soobin and Yeonjun had locked themselves in a dressing room; making sure that no one was around before Yeonjun answered the phone, putting it on speaker so both of them could hear clearly.
“Mom?”
“What took you so long?” His mothers’ voice was clear and calm, yet cold.
“I had to go somewhere secluded, I was in the middle of practice,” he carefully explains. Yeonjun always had the feeling he had to walk on eggshells around his mom, even in a situation like this. “Soobin is also here by the way.”
“Oh…well. I’m just going to cut to the chase. Lita confessed.”
Yeonjun’s eyes darted to Soobin’s equally enlarged ones as his heart dropped. He gulped, as did Soobin. He didn’t understand how Yeonjun’s mother could break the news to him in such an insensitive way.
He knew how much Yeonjun was hurting because of it, and confirmation would only make that worse, so why didn’t Yeonjun’s mother try to at least make an effort to soothe Yeonjun’s already gaping wounds?
“She did?” Yeonjuns eyes instantly started to fill with tears and Soobin noticed. Putting his head on Yeonjun’s shoulder as he quietly rubbed his back in an attempt to comfort him.
Yeonjun couldn’t wrap his mind around the fact that the woman that cared for him when no one else would, was a traitor. A cold-blooded traitor who was just after their money.
Was it all a hoax? Did she never care for him at all? Or did something happen that made her turn on his family?
This was the biggest betrayal of his life. If the one person that actually cared for him was able to hurt him like this, then what about everyone else? This ignited a whole new set of trust issues and yet another traumatic experience to talk about with his therapist and honestly, he didn’t know if he could take it anymore.
“She admitted to wanting to overthrow the company. But she did not admit to being behind the attempted assault to y/n. And since no one got hurt paired with the fact that there is no real evidence, we can’t incarcerate her for that.”
“What!?” Yeonjun exclaims in disbelief. “You’re telling me that we can’t press charges against Lita for trying to hurt y/n?”
“I’m afraid not…you’re going to have to fly out again to testify as a witness. I don’t want to bother y/n too much so I’ll just have my people call her for questioning, however since you are the sole heir to Choi Enterprises, I’m going to need you there in court.” His mother states as if it’s nothing.
Yeonjun’s mind was spinning. He had too many questions and too little brain capacity to be able to ask all of them at once. He swallowed harshly as Soobin motioned to Yeonjun to give him the phone, and without a thought, he did.
Soobin cleared his throat before speaking, hoping not to be out of line by doing so, but he could tell Yeonjun was having a hard time to collect his thoughts.
“Hello mam, this is Soobin. Uhm, I hope it’s ok.”
“Oh, hi. Yes, of course. Proceed.”
Soobin smacked his lips nervously, instantly intimidated by the sound of her voice yet he decided to speak anyway.
“How do we know for sure if Lita’s minions will stand down now that she got caught? And is she in jail now? I’m not quite sure if I get it. And do we need the security guards? It’s pretty bothersome and distracting to all of us…” Soobin says as he watches Yeonjun stare into nothingness.
He sighed awaiting a response. Soobin laced his fingers with Yeonjun’s to calm him down once more and it seemed to work as Yeonjun’s attention averted back to the conversation at hand.
“We won’t know for sure. But it’d be really stupid of her to try anything now that we’ve caught her. The security details will stay with you all until this is over with, that’s not up for discussion. And yes. Lita will rot in jail. I’ll make sure of it.”
Shivers ran down Soobin’s spine at the scary tone of Yeonjun’s mother. She was beyond reasoning with but could he blame her? A trusted family employee of over 20 years has made the ultimate betrayal. Soobin couldn’t imagine the hurt and anger she must be feeling right now, so he didn’t dare to go against her about the security guard situation.
Yeonjun’s lower lip trembled as he silently took the phone from Soobin again.
“Mom…” his voice was shaky. He sounded lost and scared, like a child calling out for his mother in distress.
His mother immediately softened at the sound of his voice. Her heart hurting for him as the realization hit her. She had been in overdrive. Lacking sleep and working day and night to make sure Yeonjun and his friends were safe, but she didn’t stop to think about how he’d be feeling in the midst of all of this.
Her mind briefly flashed back to when she confronted Lita in her home office, surrounded by her security and private detectives. She reminisced to the horror on Lita’s face after getting caught for the unforgivable.
She was so busy with making sure that Lita wouldn’t be a threat anymore, that she completely disregarded the fact that Yeonjun might be having the hardest time of them all.
Even though Lita was a trusted employee, their relationship didn’t go further than business, but Yeonjun was raised by her, and she completely forgot about that.
“I can’t take this…” a tear escapes Yeonjun’s eye. And another one, and another one. Wiping them away was no use as they kept coming, so he just let them fall freely. He silently sobbed while Soobin put Yeonjuns head on his shoulder, letting him weep like a baby as he still held on to Yeonjun’s hand.
His mother fell silent, unable to comfort her son because she didn’t know how.
“I’m sorry Yeonjun,” she says in almost a whisper. “I’m sorry you have to feel this type of pain. I will do everything I can to help you okay? I promise. Once the situation is dealt with I will get you the best team of people to help you with your troubles, I won’t mess up this time. I promise I’ll be there for you.”
Yeonjun sniffed, trying to collect himself to respond but he couldn’t. Promises are just words. Words that have meant nothing in his life.
“I don’t need a team of people mom, I need you,” his voice cracked. “I need this pain to stop. I just need my mother, not a lawyer or another therapist. I just need you. I need a parent.”
Soobin’s heart wrenched in his chest at the plea’s Yeonjun was making to his mother. He couldn’t imagine having this type of relationship with his own parents.
In the moment Soobin made a pledge with himself that no matter how much Yeonjun seems to fuck up, he won’t ever leave him behind. He will make sure to be the rock Yeonjun needs, regardless of his mother actually trying or not.
Taehyun, Beomgyu, and Hueningkai had their ears pressed against the door throughout the whole thing. As silence engulfed the space, the three of them looked at each other with enlarged pupils as shock took over their faces.
They put two and two together individually. Looking at each other with disheartened expressions.
“Oh no…” Taehyun says in a whisper.
Tumblr media
You didn’t know how to tell them.
You didn’t know how to tell Yeonjun or Soobin individually so you just invited all of the boys over at once to get it over with.
It was nighttime by now and you figured you’d cook them all dinner given the fact that food always lures them to your place. Hopefully, the sweet taste of your homemade brownies would subside the bitter news you had to break to them.
Mia helped with everything, the table was fully decked out with all sorts of dishes and it was obvious you were overcompensating for something but they had no clue yet.
When they got to your apartment, Yeonjun and Soobin were missing from the group which made you panic a little.
“Damn what’s the occasion?” Beomgyu asks as his mouth waters, looking at the absolute feast you cooked up for them.
“Uhm, well. I have some news, but I have to wait for Yeonjun and Soobin to tell you guys.”
Mia awkwardly took place at the table between Hueningkai and Taehyun and Tae just stared at you. “Please tell me you’re not pregnant.”
“NO! Oh my god. Tae. No.” you give him a horrified look and pat your stomach.
“Thank god, I’m too young to be an uncle.” Hueningkai sighs in relief as he slouched in his seat.
“Yeah, when you said you were cooking us dinner cause you had an announcement to make I really thought Yeonjun finally knocked someone up.” Beomgyu snickers as he shoved a dumpling in his mouth.
You roll your eyes and look at the two empty seats. “Do you know where they are?”
Your question triggered a silence so awkward, you’ve never experienced anything like it in your friend group.
Taehyun looked at Beomgyu, and Beomgyu looked at Hueningkai; while Hueningkai looked to Taehyun to take the lead.
“I-uhh…” Tae starts, but he stopped himself. He didn’t know how much you both knew of the situation so he decided against speaking about it.
“They had some errands to run. I’m sure they’ll be here soon.”
Beomgyu visibly relaxed in his seat at Tae made up an alibi for the boys’ whereabouts, but Mia – being the hyper-aware one – narrowed her eyes at them.
The boys collectively agreed on pretending they didn’t know what was going on until either Yeonjun or Soobin would tell them themselves. They wanted to give them; and especially Yeonjun, time to process and didn’t want to push him into explaining the situation to them if he wasn’t ready for it.
Also, they felt bad for eavesdropping and weren’t sure how to start the conversation even if they wanted to.
The twisting of your lock snaps you out of the moment and suddenly fear takes over your entire body. The trauma triggered by Lita’s minion trying to break your lock last night was the cause of your shocked Pikachu face, but when you see Soobin and Yeonjun in your door opening you relax instantly.
You gave Soobin a key, how could you forget.
“Oh, I didn’t expect you guys here so soon.” Hueningkai comments, which made Gyu and Tae look at him with threatening eyes.
“Where else would we be?” Soobin asks as he walks towards the table. He greeted you with a kiss on your head, and Mia with a kiss on her cheek before he sat down next to you.
The distance between Mia and Soobin was still odd, he’d normally kiss her lips but he played it off well as he slid his chair towards the table while eyeing the food closely.
Yeonjun on the other hand; greeted you with a soft smile while simply petting your head before he sat down on the opposite side of Soobin.
The atmosphere was odd. Yeonjun was uncharacteristically quiet but you figured it was because of everything that was going on and honestly you couldn’t blame him. His head must be the fullest out of all of you, so you made sure to keep the conversation light and airy.
Your funny group dynamic slowly returned, and before you knew it, it was already time for dessert.
“I’ll help you.” Yeonjun offered as he cleared the table.
You were in your kitchen, taking a deep breath as you were cutting up the last brownie, prettily putting it on a plate with some red berries on the side.
As Yeonjun approached with the dishes, he watched you carefully. He put the dirty plates in the sink before he nudged your shoulder softly to get your attention, pulling you out of your concentration of perfectly assembling your masterpiece.
You look up, and you’re met with his beautiful soft smile. His eyes were glistening and he sighed contently. “You went all out,” he comments as he watches you do your thing. “Yeah, maybe I should deliver one to my designated security guard in the parking lot,” you joke under your breath and even though your sense of humor was pretty dark given the situation, he seemed to appreciate it as he giggled. Your heart did a thing at the sound. You missed it. You missed hearing his loud laugh. You missed seeing him happy.
“There’s actually new information I want to share with you and Mia, but we’ll have to wait until the boys leave.”
You look at him shortly before you avert your gaze back on the task at hand. You really didn’t know if the timing was right to talk about your exchange to Brown University but given the fact that you were leaving so soon, you also knew that you didn’t have much of a choice.
Suddenly you felt guilty again for leaving in the midst of all of this, but he’d understand? Right?
You nod absentmindedly and tell him to sit down with the others so you could start decking the table and once everyone had a plate, you stood at the edge of your dinner table looking at them nervously.
They all give you puzzled looks, while Mia gave you a reassuring nod.
“So…they’re Brownies.”
Soobin chuckled, raising his eyebrow. “I can see that.”
“No well…they’re…brownies for…Brown University,” you explain nervously.
“Huh?” Beomgyu breaks the silence, his eyes darting from the plate to you.
All eyes were on you by now, expectantly waiting for you to continue.
“Remember that paper from this morning?”
“The one you got a 100 on?” Hueningkai asks.
“Yes, well. Uhm. Mr Davis sort of, might’ve sent it to a representative at Brown…and they want to like…fund my research or whatever,” you say avoiding eye contact as you fidget with the sleeves of your blouse.
“Brown!? Dude. That’s…insane!” Taehyun exclaims enthusiastically.
“God, and here I thought you really were pregnant.” Beomgyu huffs. “But this is amazing!”
“Yes, congratulations sis, you really deserved it!” Hueningkai says with a bright smile.
You look at them with an elated facial expression, happy that they’re happy for you. But then you turn your head and look at Soobin who has literal tears in his eyes.
“…Soobin?” you lean in to see if your eyes were deceiving you but they weren't. His eyes really were teary.
“Hyung are those tears?” Taehyun asks wide-eyed.
He sniffed, wiping his eyes as he got up from the chair to trap you into a tight hug. “I’m just really proud of you,” he mumbles.
As you’re trapped in his bear-hug, your nerves fade. “Finally some good news,” he whispers into your ear. And you close your eyes at the solace of this peaceful moment.
Yes, it really is good news. And only now you realize just how amazing it is that you’ve accomplished this all on your own. You finally get to be happy about it now that you’ve told them.
When he let go, you finally make eye contact with Yeonjun and he had an equally proud smile on his face to match Soobin’s.
“This is amazing, y/n. You earned it.” he says with glistening pupils and your heart raced at his sweet remark.
“So, how long will you be gone for? Like a week? Two weeks?” Beomgyu asks as he chews on the fudgy brownie you made them.
Oh…shit. You didn’t tell them how long you’d be gone for.
You shoot Mia a panicked look but her facial expression only matched yours.
“Uhm…”
All eyes were on you again. They were full of hope, expectation, and pride; and for some reason, you knew you were going to ruin the moment.
“It’s…about a semester-long,” you admit, and all of their facial expressions fall at the same time.
“That’s…six months.” Soobin realizes. It hit him that his best friend; who he’s never been more than a week without, will leave his side for half a year for the first time in his life.
“Damn…that’s a long time…” Taehyun says looking from you to Yeonjun with concern.
You didn’t dare look at him, but you knew that all of them were.
Mia bit her lip as she looked at how sad Soobin had gotten, but her gaze averted to Yeonjun and her look changed from sadness to confusion.
Yeonjun was…smiling.
Your eyes found his as he smiled at you fondly. He’s dying inside, but of course, he wouldn’t tell you that. There’s no way in hell he’d ruin this moment for you.
He had to man up and show his best fake smile because he’d never guilt trip you into not going. The opportunity was too big to let go, and honestly. You being far, very far away from this whole mess kind of eased his mind.
You’d be safe.
Without him around.
“What?” he asks trying to sound genuinely confused as to why everyone was looking at him.
“Aren’t you…upset?” Mia asks carefully, which made Yeonjun look at her briefly before looking at everyone’s equally worried facial expressions, including yours.
You expected every possible reaction, except this one, and it lowkey scared you.
“How could I be upset?” he says with an eye-smile as he breaks off a piece of the brownie, shoving it into his mouth while giving all of you innocent puppy-eyes.
Someone get this man an Oscar.
You didn’t know if you should be happy or sad that he reacted the way he did. You’d rather have him yell at you for leaving him, that’d be a lot less unnerving than the scarily calm and collected man sitting in front of you right now.
“Hyung, she’s leaving for half a year.” Beomgyu tries to make this clearer, thinking that Yeonjun didn’t understand, but he did, fully.
“I know. Look, I will obviously miss y/n. But what good will it do if I let my emotions get the best of me right now? This is supposed to be a joyful moment. She’s worked for this her whole life guys. Let’s be proud and happy for her. It’s almost like you all want me to freak out?”
Every single one of you was absolutely dumbfounded by his comment. It was mature of him, that’s for sure, but you expected at least some emotion other than this capitalist smile he had on his face.
“Let’s give them some time alone,” Soobin says as he got up. “I will talk to you later.” He states as he passes by you, squeezing your hand in reassurance.
Your pupils dart from him to Mia and the rest of the boys in panic. Oh no, please don’t leave.
Yeonjun still sat at your dinner table like a robot while the rest of them quickly thanked you for dinner as they left your place, taking their brownies with them.
They all followed Soobin obediently and after Mia whispered in your ear to call her if anything popped off, she left. And you were all alone with Yeonjun.
You turn around on your heels. Making your way to your dinner table again as your heart thumped in your chest.
You carefully approach him, pulling out a chair to sit beside him and you just silently take his hand.
He refused to make eye contact with you, and suddenly you felt like the biggest dick in the universe.
“Please don’t make me say it,” he says.
“Say what?” you squeeze his hand, waiting for him to respond.
“Please don’t make me tell you that I want you to stay, because I do. But I could never, ever be that selfish.”
“Yeonjun….I’m the selfish one.”
His eyes shot up to look at yours. His pupils were dilated, alarmed, and startled.
“No, you’re not. You’re going. End of story, and when you come back, I’m going to love you just as much, maybe even more than when you left.”
Your eyes start to fill with tears, and he’s quick to notice as he pulled you into his lap, cradling you like a baby.
“Hey, shhh. Don’t cry.” his voice was laced with sadness as he watched you cry. He hated the sight more than anything and tried to wipe your tears with his thumbs.
“Yeonjun, I don’t want to abandon you.” You sniff into his neck as all the tension and nerves of making this life-altering decision get to you.
It’s not like you weren’t coming back, but 6 months is a long time. You weren’t the same person you were 2 months ago, let alone 6.
“You’re not, don’t say that.”
“I don’t want you to hate me,” you mumble as you sniff.
“I could never hate you y/n. Ever.” He assured you of his true feelings as he rubbed your back, trying to soothe your pain as you cried into the crook of his neck.
His cold fingers caressed your cheek, and he closed his eyes for a second. Listening to you cry softly in silence as he contemplated on what to say.
“This is supposed to be a good thing baby…why are you crying.”
Baby. He hasn’t called you that in a while.
"Because I don't want to leave you."
He was trying his hardest to keep it together, but to be honest he was one push away from a mental breakdown.
He needed you, now more than ever. But Yeonjun would never tell you that, cause you’d stay for him, and he knew it.
“Maybe space is what we need,” he says with a heavy heart, and your tears immediately stopped.
You look up at him. What did he just say to you?
He sighed, tracing his fingers over your lips before tugging at your chin to pull you closer. He placed his lips on yours and kissed you softly, passionately, and lovingly before he pulls away to rest his forehead against yours.
“Let’s be real y/n. Being with me has only complicated things. Maybe we can use these 6 months and try to grow separately before we can be great together…”
Mia said the exact same thing, but if he’s saying what you think he’s saying; then you honestly didn’t want to hear it.
Long-distance would be rough, but it’d be better than not having him at all.
You wipe your tears away with your sleeve and sniff once again, trying to collect yourself before you start to speak again.
“You want to end whatever it is that we have?”
“No…and yes…”
“Why…” you sounded absolutely broken as your voice cracked, it made his heart hurt for you so he sighed loudly. Looking you in the eye with desperation.
“Because I can’t love you the way you deserve to be loved y/n. At least not now. I'm...fucked up.”
You look at him with glassy eyes, shocked to hear his confession. You leaving was just the final straw. He has tried to do this before when he planned to stay back home and work for Choi Enterprises, but this was the first time he said it. With actual words.
“Why? What changed. I thought that-”
“Lita confessed.” He interrupts you before you could make any assumptions yourself.
“W-what?”
“She confessed, I have to leave for home next Wednesday to testify against her in court. Everything’s going so fucking fast…”
“Next Wednesday? I also leave next Wednesday...” you mumble softly.
His eyes grew big. “You’re leaving that soon?”
You nod, biting your lip, and notice how Yeonjun had trouble putting his thoughts into words so you encourage him by caressing his cheek, nodding at him to let him know that it was ok to say whatever was on his mind; even if it didn’t make sense.
He rubbed his temple in agony before avoiding your piercing gaze as he spoke. “I thought I had enough to deal with when my dad died, but her confessing that she was capable of doing all the things she’s done felt even worse than my fathers’ death. This time it feels like I lost a real parent y/n. I don’t’ know how to move on from this…”
“And this is exactly why I’m not leaving,” you say getting up in a hurry as you frantically start looking for your phone.
He watched you a little startled at your sudden changed demeanor and got on his feet just as quick.
“Hey, hey, hey.” He grabbed your wrists, making you look at him. “What are you doing?”
“Finding my phone, I’m calling Mr. Davis. I’m canceling the whole thing.”
“No, you’re not.” Yeonjun’s tone was serious.
“You are going. You are going to take this once in a lifetime opportunity, and change history with your research do you hear me? You could help so many people with this. It’s your passion. Your dream. And you’re telling me you’re ready to drop all of that…because of me?”
You didn’t know what else to do other than nod. Yes. You were ready to drop it all for him, but Yeonjun just shook his head in disbelief.
“No, y/n. I’m sorry.”
“For what?”
“For saying what I’m about to say, but you’re not going to ruin your life like this. I won’t drag you down with me. I won’t ever let that happen.”
“So what are you saying?” you looked at him with teary eyes, your pupils darting back and forth before he let go of you.
‘I’m saying that…we need to hit pause on whatever this is.” He couldn’t believe he said this.
He really didn’t. And he felt instant regret as he watched your face crumble.
He wasn’t the only one with abandonment issues, because so were you.
He promised your dad that he’d never break your heart, yet here he was. In your living room, looking at you fall apart, and he was the cause of it all.
“I’m sorry y/n. I love you. I really do. That’s why I’m doing this,” he says as he cups your face in his hands. Tears were also starting to fall from his eyes by now, and you just stood there in his hold. Completely lost and frozen.
“Please don’t hate me,” he whispered as he buried his face in your hair to muffle his soft sobs. He wrapped his arms around you tightly, holding on to you one more time before he couldn’t anymore. He took the chance and kissed you once more. You let his lips ghost over yours before you pull away.
“I could never hate you Yeonjun.”
Tumblr media
Before you knew it, Wednesday rolled around.
It felt like only yesterday when you told your friends that you were leaving, and today you actually were.
Soobin helped you with your suitcase as the rest of them trailed behind you with long faces.
They were all there to send you off, except for Yeonjun. He had to leave early to catch his flight back home to testify against Lita in court, and honestly, you were glad he wasn't here right now. Seeing him again after your tearful goodbye was something you weren’t ready for.
The timing of things was just incredibly wrong, and you wished you were able to support him throughout the whole legal process and emotional storm he had to go through back home but you couldn’t, and you both already made peace with it.
You were a single woman again. Leaving to live a different life at a new school.
You both decided it’d be for the better like this since both of you were going to walk different life paths from now on, at least for the next six months. It wasn’t certain if things would go back to normal upon your return in the future and that uncertainty is what hurt you the most.
With a heavy heart, you turn around to face your friends when you arrive at the check-in desk, and without a word, a big group hug is formed.
“We’ll miss you,” Hueningkai mumbles into the hug.
“Even I will.” Taehyun sighs.
You let go of them with a smile, knowing you have to put on a brave face for this to not turn into yet another emotional tear-fest.
“I’ll be back before you know it. And it’s not like I’m dying guys. There’s this thing called the internet. We can still see and talk to each other.” You chuckle as you nudge Beomgyu who was pouting at you and you wrap an arm around Taehyun who was standing next to you.
You avert your gaze from the boys and make eye contact with Soobin who wasn’t the best at concealing his emotions.
He pouted as he sniffed, wiping his eye.
Mia chuckled. “Are you crying AGAIN?”
“No. I have something in my eye.”
“Yes. I can see it.” Beomgyu says as he leans forward to look into Soobin’s eyes dramatically. “It’s a dust particle called little bitch.”
“Shut up.” Soobin huffs as he shoves the younger one away, and all of you burst into laughter.
Thank god for that moment of laughter, it took the edge off and made everything a lot less emo.
You had a long talk with Soobin the night before when he helped you pack your stuff. The hard part was over with, though you could tell he was still struggling to let you go. But he knew that it was all for the greater good.
You sighed as you walked up to him for a tight hug, and as you let go of each other you give Mia a smirk “Look after him for me will ya.”
“You know I will.” She smiles at you as she pulls you in for a hug as well, and suddenly it got really warm again as the boys wrapped themselves into the hug once more.
You giggle, looking at them one last time before you take a hold of your suitcase.
The check-in for your flight had started, and you were called to move in line.
“Bye guys.”
You wave at each other as the distance became bigger and bigger, and when they were completely out of sight you’re able to breathe again.
You bite your lip, trying to suppress the urge to cry and run back to them. Run back to your safety net of the people you loved and cared for the most, but you knew you had to do this.
You were excited to start a new adventure, but you wished you didn’t have to sacrifice so much to be able to do it.
Your phone buzzed in your pocket as you sat at your gate, lost in thought while you waited to board the airplane.
Your eyes widen when you saw his name pop up in your notifications and quickly open your messenger app.
[Yeonjun, 10.43 AM]: Good luck on your new journey and have a safe flight. I wish I could be there to send you off but just know I’m thinking of you. Always.
[Yeonjun, 10.44 AM]: Take care y/n. I love you.

ahh i have nothing to watch and im so annoyed :// do you have any mindless light romance show you could recommend?
omg i feel this ask anon!
There's not a whole lot airing right now and due to the COVID situation in Korean, it's just gonna get worse for a while... D:
Two Fluffy Shows Airing Right Now:
Light On Me: This bl featuring a super soft baby boi who is bad at life and the two men who love him really has my heart! It's the first BL viki has released that's a full 16 episodes so I feel like progress is being made re: Give Us GAY!
Be Love In House: This is a Taiwanese bl that was recommended to me by an anon and even though I don't usually watch Taiwanese dramas, this one is so silly and tropey I'm just into it! I care more about the second couple than the main (like, I LOVE them) but it's super easy to watch and literally if you think too hard...well just don't.
Two Helpful Lists I wrote:
Light & Fluffy K-Dramas with no Melodrama (Updated 10/2020)
Light & Fluffy K-Dramas & Web Dramas (Updated 10/2020)
Tumblr media
And if you want me to pick a few I love:
Shopping King Louie: Ridiculously fun and lighthearted romp following a spoiled and useless chaebol with amnesia who is being taken care of by a country bumpkin in the city. Very low stakes, super adorable couple, and as many tropes as you can fit in your bag, this one is one of my favorites to recommend.
Extraordinary You/ A Day Found By Chance: This magical k-drama has my heart. It plays with all of the predictable tropes and then just goes crazy! While not perfect towards the end, I give this show bonus points for being super creative AND inspiring me to read a LOT of fan fic. I think about this drama more than any other.
Fight for My Way : I love this drama! Always a fave for me, this drama is funny and heartwarming! The leading lady is a strong female which I LOVE, and Park Seo Joon plays her really cute down to earth best friend. It’s a childhood friends to lovers trope with a group of regular people (no rich heirs in this show!) and has a happy ending and a lot of cute flirting, cuddling and kissing. Argh I love these two!
The Best Hit / Hit The Top: A famous 90′s boyband dude travels into the future and meets up with his family and friends in this really cute drama featuring Yoon Shi Yoon. I LOVE Yoon Shi Yoon in pretty much everything but this role was made for him - he is hilarious. It’s a slice of life but features the k-po
Her Private Life: Park Min Young really knows how to pick dramas. I loved this one about a museum curator who is secretly a fangirl obsessed with an idol. It’s fun and fluffy but does have a very mild childhood trauma thing with his mother but I mean, 99% of dramas like this do? If you like this one, Touch Your Heart and Why Secretary Kim are by the same person and have similar vibes.p music industry so the setting is unique.
The Secret Life Of My Secretary: A CEO chaebol loses his ability to recognize faces and needs his secretary to help him navigate his new reality. The two mains are the most adorable dummies and the side characters are awesome! You’ll laugh a LOT at all of the dorks and I plan on rewatching this soon just to chill and enjoy.

Psychofans & Mediacorps
(Backstory and lore on some psychofan encounters and the attempted kidnapping of Kerry Eurodyne along with some related events with Johnny Silverhand. Written as a Screamsheet because I was bored, and this all isn’t 100% since actual events aren’t always fully disclosed. Word count: 2976. Sources at the end.)
Being a world famous Rockerboy is really all it’s chalked up to be, doesn’t mean there isn’t its fair share of snags along the way. Fame and glory comes with a heavy price tag many don’t realize as they’re building their way to the top. Blinded by having your name in the lights, seeing hundreds of thousands of fans all eagerly waiting to just get a glimpse of you. Night City Legend Kerry Eurodyne commented, “It’s scary. I mean, to think that one hundred thousand people are selling their souls to see you, and you’ve got them hanging on your every word.” The very fans that would kill for a chance to see their idols live, are the very same that would put them on Trauma.
Not just the fans either. Corporate is everywhere, in everything. Fight the system through lyrics while making them richer all the same. Media giants like N54 and DMS buying up the whole show to beat on their chest about who has the most control. The issue comes with their greed for it, keeping those who give them wealth on short leashes. Best offers, benefits, prestige of having a higher name attached to yours. But when friendship runs deeper than the quick climb to fame, other options of “persuasion” may occur. Aggressive strategies to keep themselves on top, because the company always come first.
We’re going to start this article off on arguably a lighter topic, that being the psychofans. I say arguably because they can do just as much damage as the corporations, but it's usually a bit more controlled. We'll hit on that later. There’s the usual rush security, jump fences, steal an axe, the almost seemingly normal chaotic fan behavior you can expect at most high profile gigs. Don’t lie, there’s always one in the audience.
The sudden rise to fame with Samurai also helped play a part in this erratic behavior, Eurodyne had previously stated, “One minute we’re chugging through our old numbers in some small, no name club to the same crowd; the next we’ve sold out Wembley Stadium and there are a hundred thousand killing each other to get a look at us.” This wasn’t much of an overstatement either. Samurai’s rapid rise to fame took a mere three weeks after signing to Universal Music to reach the number one spot on EuroRadio charts. Everyone wanted a piece of Samurai then, and following the break up in late 2007 that craving didn’t soon die out.
A number of incidents have happened, being on world tours is a crazy place. Never really know how fans are going to act until you’re in the thick of it. Most these incidents happen backstage, after gigs, or just by random chance coming across someone on the streets, in the open. One particular incident was documented in 2020 in the following of Trauma Team’s Rich “Meatball” Cramer M.D., Lifeline Trauma Inc., Night City Branch #23.
Broken card call, 15:55, to the Grand Illusion Dance Hall and Bar. Patient being none other than one Rockerboy, Kerry Eurodyne. Compared to the rest of the logs of the night this was a breath of fresh air for the Lifeline agents, not so much for Mr. Eurodyne who was being assaulted by a gang of young female fans. Teargas was dispensed and our Rocker was extracted from the scene. Kerry was in good health at time of extraction, footing the bill of the call to the studio as well as a new set of clothes. Lawsuits were never charged as the fans left enjoying the chaos.
Another lesser known act back in 2043-44, while performing in Memphis TN an assailant got backstage and put a knife to Kerry’s throat. Intentions of the attack are unknown. Could have been a psychofan making demands of an idol, or someone who knew the net wealth of the name Kerry Eurodyne at the time? Either way the incident ended without bloodshed, Kerry was able to talk the assailant down and promptly knock him out with a stiff pour of that high life tequila. The rest was handled by the venue’s security. Unfortunately events like these are almost common for the stardom lifestyle.
Lives are kept under public scrutiny 24/7. “Be prepared to have your private life open to the world,” Rockerboy, Johnny Silverhand, had mentioned in a column from Advice From the Pros. Name in the lights simply means just that, private life is on show as well and nothing can truly be kept secret forever. Kerry Eurodyne had added, “Cover your ass on your social life, the mediacorps are capable of setting you up bigtime in compromising situations… Make sure you know who you’re hanging out with, and something about their friends.” Not just fans and so called friends you need to watch out for, but the very people you sign yourself away with.
Rockers Kerry Eurodyne and Johnny Silverhand are no stranger to this cold truth. Even mediacorps you don’t sign with will have motives, and often resources, to try and gain a signature. Corporations will often go after the output/input or family of the Talent instead of the Talent itself. However, big companies like DMS, the rival to N54 News, also have other methods to “persuade” a contract breach and change. Both Kerry and Johnny were targeted by this particular company, though this time it was Eurodyne dragging Silverhand into trouble.
After the time Samurai had broken up for good, late 2007 early 2008 Kerry was looking for a decent solo deal. This was a gamble for most Labels at the time, Johnny was the frontman of Samurai, Kerry’s true talent had yet to really flourish into the Legend we know today. At this stage in their careers they were just some new-boy artists, that had a couple songs and albums that made it big. A lot of bands will have their handfuls of top sellers and then disappear into a faded memory. However, media giant DMS saw promise in Kerry, and they quickly came out with an offer for the young Rockerboy that would put him right back on the road to stardom.
Kerry was going to take the offer until Universal came up with an offer that wouldn’t just set him up but Johnny as well. The two decided that the offer Universal had was too good to pass up, and with good reason. Universal not only was packaging the two Rockerboys together as independent solo artists, they were offering a better deal as a whole. Since Universal already knew them from Samurai, and knew what the two could produce, formalities of signing a new band was skipped. Re-signing with Universal gave them guaranteed concessions normally only offered to major bands or superstars.
DMS didn’t come back with a counter offer, they came back with threats. Eurodyne, and those close to him, started to receive threats from the mediacorp, these quickly escalated to hired thugs harassing and assaulting everyone in the Rocker’s inner circle, as well as himself. A common tactic for many corporations to get what they want. However, Kerry wasn’t folding to their pressure, sticking with his decision with Johnny to sign to Universal. At this point the signatures were received and Kerry’s talent was the official property of Universal Music once again. This only made the situation worse, and turned into a rather rare occurrence for the music scene.
Major corporations have a number of outlets that they have at full disposal to get what and whom they want, when they want. DMS is not unique in this fact, but they do have one of the more unique techniques. DMS is creative, deadly, and, for a corporation its size, dangerously agile. They are known for their aggressive and ruthless recruiting tactics, and they do not take “no” with grace.
Eurodyne’s fate, to DMS, was sealed the moment they selected him, no matter his choice. DMS starts with a fair offer, most of it coming with the prestige of having their name backing you and their benefits package. In the case of Eurodyne, where this was not enough, DMS will call on their Special Recruiting Division, which is devoted solely to recruiting and converting people who are reluctant to sign to DMS. A fancy way of saying they send in their black ops section to perform extractions on those who are bound by contract or reluctant to leave their current company.
Extractions are illegal, but the government is in the pocket of these corporate giants. Though they hardly ever send their own people, so even if the extraction does fail the proof of finding out who sponsored the extraction is normally too timely, over looked, or asking corpses. Most these companies hire Solos to get the job done, a number of groups exist in this profession alone. Extractions are unsettling common in the corpo world that counter extractions are budgeted into company spending plans. As well many big companies have jealousy protection, and pre-planned countermeasures to prevent extraction attempts of their employees or Talents.
Now, you may be asking yourself, “If they didn’t want to work for them before, what would kidnapping them do?” Well, DMS and other companies thought about this issue as well. How do you force someone to work for you? Blackmail is the obvious answer, to the Talent, to their friends, their family, etc. It's a simple fix that will get a result, but can’t guarantee the product. Its proven effective though, reputation is everything- threats to destroy that are not taken lightly. For a company like DMS, they have a one up on this if they can't get the Talent to see eye to eye with their terms. “Talent Indoctrination”, TI for short, otherwise known as brainwashing to the common choom. It's a program used for winning over people who express resistance to “joining the DMS family” even after extraction.
TI is only a rumor outside of the highest levels of the corporation, and those who have been subjected to it. Luckily, TI section failures are rare, unluckily survival of TI section failures is even rarer. DMS, however, is willing to risk TI only on targets with a high enough revenue generation potential. Executives are more at risk than artists, given artists are seen as disposable and the average commercial shelf-life of a DMS Music artist is only a couple years. Most only making it an average of two before they’re dropped back to performing at clubs and bars for the same hundred fans, if that.
This was the threat Kerry was under, one that became very real one fateful day when the Rockerboy was abducted by a group of hired muscle from the corporation. While Kerry was successfully kidnapped and relocated, the extraction itself failed due to intervention of Legendary Solo, Morgan Blackhand. Blackhand was able to capture all five kidnappers, alone, and turned them over to the Federal Authorities. Beaten, battered, and bruised but all five were alive when they were handed over. This act alone humiliated DMS, who was only found later on in investigation to have been the group’s sponsor. Its not unheard of extractions being foiled, but for a company like DMS it was a shot to their pride since Kerry would know it was them that called it. The real humiliation of it comes from the fact Blackhand snagged them all alive, allowing the truth to be exposed to the public, tarnishing that royal reputation of theirs, though no legal action would be taken.
Embarrassing a huge company like that puts a major target on your back. Legality they could care less about, but reputation is not something any corporation wants to gamble with. Morgan Blackhand would become a target for a later date, DMS wasn’t done with Kerry Eurodyne yet. Now, though, their attention was brought to one of the key elements for why Kerry declined their original offer; Johnny Silverhand.
“They were threatening Johnny and I with things like government investigations and stuff. By the time that threat was made, we’d already signed with Universal…” Eurodyne recalled during an interview. It was true, DMS had dug not only into Kerry’s past life but Johnny’s as well. They were at the stage of “If we can’t have you, no one will.” While Eurodyne’s rap sheet was arguably cleaner, DMS was preparing to go full out, and all in to find anything they could. What they had as their ace was Silverhand’s military past, and they knew they could find the same information about Eurodyne as well or paint him for it. Both Rockers had served during the 2000’s Central American Conflict, Johnny’s desertion was all they needed to start the fire.
DMS was preparing to take this knowledge to the government, and at that point they could say and paint anything on Kerry as well. Their careers were about to end before they even began. Short on time, they did the only thing they could do, they went to Universal Music. With the counter threat of exposure of DMS’s corruption and abusive power over their Talents, Universal made their position clear. This was a PR move, DMS could go to their pocket government agents to have the Rockerboy’s locked away for life, but Universal was going for their public appearance. The ends didn't justify the means, DMS backed down.
Lawsuits were dropped, threats ceased, no more extraction attempts were made on either rockstar. They were given freedom to produce their albums and do tours under the protection of Universal. It wouldn’t be for another several years down the line when DMS would rear its ugly head back into their lives. Well, only in passing.
Denny, the former drummer of Samurai, had a new band called Mastermind that was being recorded by DMS Music. “She knows how I feel about them, but the contract they’ve got is suitable for her, so I’m not going to interfere as long as she is happy.” Kerry had stated on the matter back in late 2013, “Even now you won’t find Johnny or I saying anything remotely positive about DMS… I’m just glad no one was listening when I made certain comments or some of my fans might have taken those rash words to heart and we might have had some serious problems.” A tongue in cheek response to the 13 April 2013 Arasaka Riots led by Johnny Silverhand, under the old band's name of Samurai. Rioters killed 18 and wounded 51 on that night, gutting the Arasaka complex. An event that would only deepen the wedge between the two Rockerboys, yet redefine them entirely.
Silverhand, however, would be blackmailed again later on in 2009 by EBS Records to leave Universal and sign a solo contract with them. EBS had found out that Johnny was an AWOL U.S. Marine who had deserted during the Second Conflict. The blackmail attempt was quickly dropped as Johnny came clean himself, revealing all his secrets and shining light on the plight of veterans of the covert war, with his now famous album Sins of Your Brother.
One thing the Rocker was known for was starting changes with his music, back in late 2012 Silverhand had an assassination attempt on his life believed to be sourced from Biotechnica do to their belief of controversal opinions to their practices heard on his album Clone Wars. Being forced to take several months of seclusion to let the heat die down before going on tour himself.
Given all of this, and much more, they had been relatively lucky. Maybe not with the fans, Eurodyne still faces the masses though in some more creative ways now. Having his biometric data copyrighted, and agreements with NCPD to monitor CCTVs for any unauthorized replications. Hasn't stopped some from trying, going as far as faking nudes that broke headlines awhile back only to have frisky imaginations shot down by his management. As far as Johnny goes, I don't think anything beats the rumor that was circulating sometime after the events of Arasaka Tower back in 2023. The idea some obsessive fan sneaked past security of the city to dig through the rubble, locating his body to put on ice and keep like some kind of memorabilia? It sounds crazy, but everyone in Night City knew what kind of fans Samurai, and more importantly, Johnny Silverhand had. Made it completely possible and people didn't really doubt that it could be true.
With corporations though, the two Rockerboys dodged a bullet. Multiples if you were keeping count. Others haven't been so lucky. A number of stories of Talents being threatened and giving into demands, multiple assassination attempts to end someone's career, Talents being kidnapped and tortured, so far as one account of a musicians hands being crushed to prevent preformances. From the outside being a Rockerboy looks like a party scene, and a lot of it is, but as the longest living in the scene will tell you, keep a Solo and a Netrunner you trust close on personal pay.
Events come full circle, once you make it to the big time stardom, the public eye notices everything, hangs onto every word. Talents like Silverhand and Eurodyne control the masses in the same way the corporations do. The audiences look to them for guidance, though in some cases the lessons are lost in translation. With everything from greedy labels making backdoor deals behind their Talent’s backs, something Kerry Eurodyne and Us Cracks went through this year, to psychofans making their own demands, to corporate reputation wars. Being a Rockerboy never gets easier, but few have hardly ever survived the test of time as Kerry has. An uphill battle from his earliest beginnings, to sitting on the Rockerboy throne of Night City, well into 2077 and still holding the title of "God of Rock" without a fault.

Seventeen Members Special
Bias: Woozi
I’m really so obsessed with Seventeen recently! I just love everything they do, from performances to chill and crazy moments in Going Seventeen. I love them all dearly, but I will save my appreciation post for other members for next time. Today, I’ll just talk about my top 2!
Woozi
Honestly, I adore all the Seventeen members, but I really can’t deny - Woozi is one of the backbones (if not the ultimate backbone member) of the whole group.
Tumblr media
- I definitely think he’s the most overworked member of Seventeen. Arguably one of the most overworked in Kpop?
- Main producer and songwriter. As part of this, he also checks and approves the lyrics made by the rap line.
I am so convinced he is a music genius!
Great vocals! - I was honestly so surprised when I first heard “Home” raw live vocals in a radio show (in YouTube). Him singing “어쩌겠어 난 네가 없으면” in the chorus gave me chills. It was a short line but it was done so perfectly, so cleanly and powerfully, even better than what’s in the recording. I doubted for a second that it was recorded and if it was really him, but it was 100% live Woozi!
Instrument king - Can play piano, guitar, drums, and even clarinet. There could be more, but I’m already so amazed! (Big fan of instruments here, especially those who were classically trained like Woozi, because classical music really isn’t easy!) If I keep talking about this, I will never end this post. He’s amazing!
Composer, songwriter and producer of beautiful songs! - As I mentioned, Seventeen’s songs are really my vibe, from first listen until now, I really love their music. And I just keep enjoying it more the more I listen to it. Knowing that a member wrote, composed, and produced the song really made me a fan girl. Woozi is so talented! I actually just saw a video yesterday where a popular songwriter for kpop chose Woozi as the songwriting idol that is able to write great lyrics. (Update: I’ve now seen so many professional lyricists, producers, and A&Rs randomly praising Woozi’s talent in random interviews that aren’t Seventeen-related.)
I just wanna add that Woozi is still so young (96 line) but he’s sitting at the top of the list of idols with most song credits, along with other idols who are older than him! And to think he actually composes and arranges whole songs too, rather than just writing lyrics like most people do! He’s already got more than 100 credits, considering he only started about 5 years ago. This guy is a machine! He must be so rich even just with loyalties! No wonder he always treats Seventeen members to meals. (Yes, stan this very generous leader too!)
Great dancer - Just being a member of Seventeen already proves you’re a great dancer (no dance hole of any kind at all in Seventeen!). But I even saw a comment from a professional dancer in YouTube once who said that Woozi is one of the best dancers he’s seen in kpop. (I also just learned he actually used to be in the Performance unit as a trainee and was supposed to be SVT main leader but he declined!)
I’ve never heard him rap, but they say he can rap well too? Not surprising, considering he actually checks the lyrics the rap line writes (and makes them re-write it if it doesn’t fit his standards for the song). Lol I stan meticulous Woozi.
Yes, your bias can produce, your bias can compose, your bias can sing and dance, and play instruments. But how many people can do all of those as good as Woozi does?! True genius.
Tumblr media
Watching videos of him in the studio, especially when working with the rest of the Seventeen members, will leave you in awe. He is so wise and handles recordings well.
And you know what’s crazy? With his skill level, it looks like he formally studied all this in a focused school before becoming an idol, but no! Woozi learned it after joining the company, about a year before debut, he learned from Bumzu. Considering how hard being a trainee already is and considering how he was still finishing high school back then, he still managed to learn songwriting and music production and actually be excellent at it. My dear. Bumzu himself said Woozi picked things up easily and he really thinks Woozi is a genius. (I actually don’t know if he actually developed his music production skill more in university or not. If he did, that would be even more impressive because Seventeen was already pretty popular after debut, and going to college/finishing the requirements would be extremely hard on top of all his Seventeen work.)
His brain is already too amazing, but his passion is even crazier. He works so hard on music because he really loves it. He still does so much work for Seventeen at the back end despite the whole group already being so busy!
I am fully convinced Woozi was made for the music industry. The amount of talent contained in this one person is too much! I can’t take it anymore!
At this point, I think I’m just gonna seal it in that Woozi is my ult.
Probably except for Hui (Pentagon), I’m not as impressed by any other kpop idol as I am with Woozi. (I’d gladly accept more suggestions of super-talented idols like Woozi if more people like him exists.)
*Technically, Woozi isn’t underrated because Seventeen is popular and isn’t underrated. But for the amount of talent this sole person has, gee, he really has to be recognized by the whole kpop world, even the whole world.
You might not stan Woozi, you might not even stan Seventeen, but you gotta admit, he is one of the most talented people out there!
//update: May 2021. I first wrote this when I didn’t really know much about Woozi’s character apart from his hard work and passion for music. I’ve stanned them longer now, and I’ve definitely learned more about him. And I now I’m head over heels for his generosity, kindness (despite showing a “cold” side sometimes, like a true tsundere), his honesty (in writing, too) and most especially his humility. He’s also so witty, honestly! And I love how he laughs at everything the members do. Overall, he’s just a truly amazing person. 🥲 I wish there were more of him in this world, but no, there is only one Lee Jihoon of Seventeen. //end of update
Anyway, I originally planned for this to be a short appreciation post on Woozi + Hoshi as my two favorites, but Woozi is too much! He needs a lot of space because he’s too amazing! (So Hoshi will probably be in the next post.)
Tumblr media
If anyone is still unconvinced, here’s an entire Reddit thread about him. Yes, shocker, there’s more to learn!

Only Love Can Hurt Like This
Tumblr media
Y/N doesn’t want a relationship, especially not with an idol. Jaebeom only wants her. Love after heartbreak and all the things that fall in between. Angst, Cheating, Fluff, Smut. Inspired by lyrics, the bold lettering indicates music or lyrics that can be found in the accompanying serendipitous universe playlist.
The only reason to go to the club was to pick up, but when everyone knew who you were, it was just a dumb idea.
Yugyeom and Bam Bam however, were all about dumb ideas.
He hated this scene, didn’t like attention, didn’t like the sloppy drunks and especially didn’t like girls who threw themselves at him.
He wasn’t sure how exactly they’d talked him into coming here tonight. Sitting at the bar, head down he let his phone distract him until the inevitable happened.
Waiting for your drink you watched the scene play out.
“I can’t believe you haven’t bought me a drink yet.” She slithered over to him.
“Why would I do that?” He answered barely looking up.
“It’s the least you could give me in return for all things I’m going to do to you tonight.”
“The only thing you’re going to do that makes me happy tonight is walk away."
A laugh escaped from your mouth and she turned to eye you up and down.
Ignoring him she leaned in closer inserting her hand between his legs. "Listen, you’re not my type, my dick’s not interested.”
Picking his drink up off the bar she threw it in his face, “Your fucking loss.”
“I think you upset her a little,” you laughed handing him a napkin.
“Good luck when she drops this as a Dispatch scandal tomorrow.”
The bartender handed you your drink and you started to walk away.
“Wait,” he stood up and offered his hand, “I’m…”
“Lim Jaebeom,” you cut him off leaving his hand outstretched in limbo.
“You know who I am?”
“I do, and while it was nice to meet you Jaebeom, my dick’s not interested.”
“Wow, that’s just” he grinned…“using my own words against me. I mean… just because you’ve heard of me doesn’t mean you know me.” He was joking, you weren’t.
“I know there’s nothing about your lifestyle I want to be a part of,” you said walking back towards him.
“I know that you’re on tour about 300 days out of the year and the other 65 you’re stuck practicing.”
You got closer, “I know your fans are fucking crazy and they’ll destroy every personal relationship you try to have.”
Closer , "I know that however committed you intend on being, the road gets lonely and you’ve got a whole PR team to cover it up.”
As close as you could be, right in his ear, “Above all, I know that you’re too beautiful and too rich for your own good.”
Backing away, “Did I miss anything?"
Raising his eyebrow he was intrigued at what had you so bitter, "Can I buy you a drink?”
You smirked before walking away, “Already bought my own, thanks though.”
He’d never had a girl so adamantly deny him and he couldn’t get his mind off of you. Picking up his drink he set off to find the two idiots responsible for bringing him here.
There they were, and there you were about 20 feet away. You looked up and made eye contact, smiling before turning your attention back to your friends.
Bam Bam was quick to notice, “Oh, JB!! Say it’s not so, I think he’s got his eye on someone Yugyeom."
Following their glances Yugyeom saw you. "Uh-Uh get that idea out of your head right now, she’s damaged goods."
"What the hell is that supposed to mean?” Jaebeom asked.
“It means,” he pulled up his phone and showed it to JB, “That is Min Yoongi’s ex."
He took the phone out of Yugyeom’s hand, he remembered seeing these gossip articles a few months ago. Min Yoongi caught in a cheating scandal, secret relationship revealed!
He didn’t want this. He certainly wasn’t looking for a girlfriend but there you were.
Tumblr media
The back story…
They were on to you.
The photographers lurked in corners, cars followed, you could feel their shadows hanging over you wherever you went.
This lifestyle was bullshit. Why the hell did you have to hide? It wasn’t normal to live like this.
As angry as it made you, you still played along. Year two, fuck you loved him.  He was like an addiction, bad for you but you needed him.
So here you were, circling the block sneaking into your boyfriend’s house like a teenager trying not to get caught.
It had been the ultimate shit day and it was only 10am. Your alarm hadn’t gone off, you were late for work, got yelled at, quit, stopped for coffee, spilled it all over yourself, cried in the car and now you were dodging the paps just so you could do the one thing that would make you feel better, hug your boyfriend.
Fuck it, they weren’t letting up, let the chips fall where they may.
Parking on the road you walked to the house as quickly as you could and let yourself in.
Still crying, you closed the door behind you stopping to take a breath and re group. How the hell were you going to explain to Yoongi that you’d just outed your relationship?
Trying to pull your disheveled, tear soaked, coffee stained self together you made the trek to his downstairs studio.
Knocking lightly there was no answer, maybe he had his headphones on. Empty, the usual hub of activity was dark and quiet.
Lately he’d been distant. You thought he was just overworked and stressed. How were you so blind to not realize he must be sinking back into his anxiety.
Making your way upstairs to the bedroom, he was most likely still asleep.
Opening the door, his blackout curtains kept the room shrouded in darkness. You could hear the soothing sound of waves flowing from the white noise machine you’d bought him for Christmas.
Finally, something that made you smile. You would spend the rest of the day curled up beside him forgetting anything existed outside these walls.
Walking towards the bed your feet caught on something, clothes?
Yoongi was meticulous with his clothing, it wasn’t like him to just leave things lying around.
Your heart began racing, it always knew before your brain clued in that something was off.
Lifting the edge of the covers, you now knew why. Laying naked, curled up together, he clearly hadn’t been having a depression nap.
Flicking the lights on you stood waiting for recognition to kick in. He sat up rubbing his eyes, looking beside him he realized she was still in the bed and it was you standing in the doorway.
That was enough, you turned the light back off and left. There was no crying, he wasn’t worth the tears.
Opening the door, it was as if the paparazzi had multiplied, cameras snapping you, clearly distraught, while he followed in pursuit.
What was the expression? Not with a fizzle but with a bang? You’d hidden for two years but now you were finished, everyone was going to know what he’d done.
“I’ve wasted two god damn years on you Min Yoongi, I hope you get a fucking STD from your new slut"
That was that, your whole life spread over the Dispatch gossip page before lunch.
No boyfriend, no job, your life had completely changed over the course of an hour.
Tumblr media
It had been four days and you were still on his mind. He couldn’t figure it out; it’s not like you’d even given him a flicker of hope.
“Fuck,” he said aloud as his fingers sent the text.
JB: You’ve got to find out about Y/N for me. I can’t stop thinking about her.
Yug: Why her JB? She’s 100% negative press. Name somebody, anybody else and I’ll hook it up.
JB: I never ask you for anything. Can’t you just fucking call Jungkook and get me her details
-------------------------
Yug: She owns a small bookstore in Ikseon-dong called Serendipity. Listen, Jungkook wasn’t happy about you asking. He said she’s been through enough, and you’d better not fuck her over.
JB: Thanks, I owe you one.
Yug: I hope this doesn’t bite you in the ass.
A bookstore, he grinned, well that was just fate or…serendipity. He could just pretend running into you was a coincidence, everybody knew he loved books.
He pulled it up on Google.
Serendipity, a Bookstore/Cafe located in the heart of Ikseon. A charming Old Hanok hidden amongst the Dongs tiny alleyways
While he scribbled down the address, the reviews caught his eye.
⭐ I don’t know who this whore thinks she is, but I hope her store goes out of business.
⭐ This store is trash just like the owner.
⭐ Stupid bitch deserved to get dumped. I can’t believe Yoongi would find her attractive.
⭐ Poverty ass gold digger. You’d better stay away from our boys.
His heart broke for you, he knew fans could be possessive, but these were just cruel. What terrible things for you to have to read, and for what? False ownership of their idol
-------------------------
Opening the door, the smell of coffee and books filtered through his nostrils, if he could create his own signature fragrance, this would be it. His eyes scanned the shop until he found you, glasses on sitting behind a computer screen at the checkout.
Browsing around he’d glance up every now and again taking you in. He noted how comfortable you looked in your own environment. Unlike at the bar your face was relaxed, soft, even more beautiful than he remembered.
You smiled at the customer you were serving, and he knew he was a goner.
He went back to perusing the shelves, his heart was beating quickly. How was he going to approach you?
“Can I help you find anything,” came from behind him.
He scanned the books quickly, and turned with a smile, “I’m just looking for I Want to Die, But I Want to Eat Tteokbokki.”
You gave no reaction
“Well that’s pretty convenient Jaebeom, because you’re standing right beside it.”
Starting to walk away he caught your hand, “Hey, come on, I’m just trying to know you.”
“Funny, I think you already know all about me, you found me easily enough.” You pulled your hand away.
“Listen JB, I’m a real career killer and it seems like you’re doing pretty well for yourself. Why would you want this kind of drama?”
He knew the words were going to come out wrong but he was trying to say them before you could leave.
“I feel bad for how you’ve been treated, you deserve better. I think that I could make you better, fuck, not that there’s anything wrong with you.. I mean that we could be better….together, not separate.”
“I don’t need anyone feeling sorry for me Jaebeom, last call for the pity party ended a while ago. I’m doing just fine putting myself back together.”
“I’m sorry, I promise I’m not usually like this. I don’t know why I can’t talk to you without sounding like an idiot.”
He sighed deeply, “I’m just…is it okay if I stay? I promise I’ll just have a coffee and read, I really like it here.”
“It’s bad business for me to chase away customers, stay as long as you want ”
You felt kind of bad, maybe you were being to harsh on him. Bringing his coffee to the table you set it down placing a slice of cheesecake next to it. “It’s on me.”
“Thanks,” he smiled shyly.
“Can I ask why you chose Serendipity? It’s kind of a romantic notion for someone who’s so cynical.”
Cocking a brow you asked, “Are you really interested, or is this you hitting on me?”
He laughed, “I’m not going to stop hitting on you, but yeah, I really want to know.”
You walked away and grabbed a book off the shelf. Sitting beside him, you slid it across the table.
“Have you heard of The Three Princes of Serendip?” He shook his head no.
“It’s a fairy tale. The heroes were always discovering things they weren’t in quest of.”
He thumbed through the pages while he listened to your explanation.
“That day a few months ago,” you interrupted yourself, “I’m assuming you know what day I mean?”
He pursed his lips and nodded.
“Well, I quit the job I hated, I lost my boyfriend and the whole world treated me like I’d done something wrong.”
You shrugged, still not understanding how it all happened.
“I was lost, I had nothing but myself and a handful of hush money from Big Hit. I came here to hideout but instead I found this place for sale. If that’s not a Serendipitous string of events, I don’t know what is.”
He smiled and closed the book, “I think I’ll take this one today.”
Pretending to be shocked you questioned him, “What? You didn’t really want I Want to Die, But I Want to Eat Tteokbokki? ”
“I think I’ll leave that one as an excuse to come back.”
His deep chocolate brown eyes were heavy on you, you know because you made the mistake of looking into them.
“This is a public space, you don’t need to make excuses to come.” You tried to sound flippant.
“And JB…I wasn’t always this cynical, life just hasn’t given me a chance to be anything but.”
-------------------------
He laid in bed reading, or trying to at least. He’d been over the same sentence about four times unable to stop thinking about you.
-------------------------
You were laying in bed when you heard the ping. You knew it was a stupid idea, but after he left you stalked his accounts, and turned on his post notifications.
-------------------------
The Vlive began, he wanted to tell everyone about a great book he was reading that he’d found in a cool little shop in Ikseon-dong.
📖 Lady: I’m glad you like it.
Reading your comment he smiled, he really was a beautiful man. You examined his features and expressions but they suddenly changed. He tried to quickly sign off but it was too late.
😭Is he talking about y/n?
😱Are you kidding JB?
🤮I can’t believe he’s going after Yoongi’s sloppy seconds.
Tumblr media
He knew he fucked up and he didn’t know what to do about it. He’d finally made some headway and now he was back to square one.
So, the next day he was back. Standing in front of your counter he held out a cup of Hotteok.
Before he could speak you jumped in, “See JB, the way this whole retail thing works is, you pick something you want that I’m selling, then give me money for it. Nowhere in the scenario do you bring me random shit just because.”
Your eyes were red, he felt terrible, after only 2 conversations he’d already managed to hurt you.
“It’s not random shit, it’s an apology. I’m sorry I drew attention to you last night.” he paused, “you don’t deserve to be attacked like that."
You turned away trying to gain your composure, "The one thing I’ve learned through all this is to never apologize for showing your feelings. When you do, you’re apologizing for the truth."
You looked back, "I’ve never apologized for loving Yoongi, because it was real whether people want to believe it or not.”
You sighed, “You didn’t do anything wrong. You didn’t put the target on my back JB it’s been there a while, I’m just sad because now you’ve got one too."
His heart sank when he realized that you weren’t choosing loneliness to protect yourself, you were keeping your distance so he wouldn’t get dragged into it.
He placed his large hand over yours as it lay on the counter. "There’s only one thing that’s going to make me walk away from you.” He tipped your chin so you were forced to look into his eyes, “Tell me you don’t want me here."
The door chimed, you were no longer alone.
"Like I said yesterday, it’s bad business for me to chase away customers, stay as long as you want.”
He smiled brightly, “That’s not a no."
Taking the Hotteok from the counter you were still unsure, but he was right, it wasn’t a no.
-------------------------
Standing at the bar in the exact spot you’d met him, you’d hoped he’d be here tonight. You felt like a desperate fool with a schoolgirl crush.
Three days had passed since you’d last seen him and despite your best efforts, you found yourself missing him. You hated the way your heart hurt, of course he’d given up why would this be a surprise?
A hand reached around placing a drink on the bar in front of you. "You look like you could use this, still pining over Min Yoongi?"
"Actually I’m waiting for a friend Minho."
"I could be your friend tonight Y/N. I guarantee I can get you to stop thinking about him,” he grabbed your ass.
“No thanks, I don’t think 5 minutes in your bed will change my world.”
He grabbed the drink back, “No wonder he cheated on you, you’re such a bitch."
Dumb, Dumb, Dumb…you’d let your guard down and everything was feeling all too personal. Shooting back the last of your Soju you grabbed your jacket and made for the exit.
"You’re not leaving when I just got here?”
Your traitorous heart fluttered, “I didn’t know I was supposed to be waiting."
His grin got bigger, "Are you mad because maybe you actually missed me a little?”
Mad, sad, who could tell them apart anymore?
“Yeah, actually I am and I’m livid with myself for it."
He put his hand on your waist, "Hey, I’m sorry, I got called for re shoots.”
His thumb rubbed over your hip soothingly, “I only have your work number…I just got back and I was hoping you’d be here"
A voice shouted from across the bar "Don’t waste your time on that one JB, come sit with us"
You closed your eyes trying to keep the tears at bay, "You heard the man. I’m leaving anyway, I guess I’ll see ya around.”
Shooting a look at Minho he ran out the door to catch up with you.
Standing at the curb waiting for a cab he reached his hand out to you. “I wanted to be with you tonight, and I’m pretty sure you wanted to be with me. It’s still early, let’s go somewhere okay, can we still do that?"
Placing your hand in his, "Only if we’re alone…and there’s alcohol.”
He smiled victorious, “I think I know a place."
Walking up the crowded street you felt better, anonymous. He kept squeezing your hand making sure you hadn’t slipped away.
"Right here,” he stopped in front of a pink neon lit Karaoke Bar.
“Karaoke? I think one of us has an extremely unfair advantage JB."
"Don’t worry I’ll let you win."
Stepping closer to him you kissed his cheek, "Why are you being so nice to me JB?"
"Y/N, why do you keep questioning my motives?”
His hand ran up your arm, “I hate that you’ve been mistreated for so long that you don’t realize what normal behavior is.”
He held the door open for you, “How’s a private room and bottle service sound?"
-------------------------
You consumed copious amounts of Grey Goose as you took turns performing for one another. What you lacked in vocal talent you made up for in your ability to mimic choreography.
"I think I’ve lost my voice,” you shouted after your efforts to sing Itzy’s Wannabe.
“I’m going to have to tell JYP about you, maybe with some training you can debut next year and come on tour with us,” he laughed.
He queued up the next song, “Come here, I want to dance with you."
You moved into his waiting arms and allowed yourself to surrender to his pursuits. His song came on and you laughed, "it’s so cheesy Jaebeom-ah!"
He sang anyway,
Our love will lead the way for us
If the road ahead is not so easy
Like a guiding star
I’ll be there for you if you should need me
You don’t have to change a thing
I love you just the way you are
You let your head rest on his chest, his heartbeat was louder, more important than the words he was singing.
Glad he was holding you up, you felt a little drunk, a little in love and for once, you weren’t going to stop yourself.
He kissed the top of your head and held on a little tighter, "So does this mean you’ll finally give me your number?”
You looked up at him nodding, locking eyes he moved slowly closer, lips almost touching …until his phone went off.
He frowned, “Fuck, it’s management. Sorry I’ve got to check in. Just stay in my arms ok?"
"You’re going to read texts over my shoulder? How romantic,” you jibed, but you didn’t break away.
JYP: Dispatch has reached out to us for comment regarding a new dating scandal. They were tipped off that you were with Y/N at Cakeshop Night Club tonight and now they are outside of the Karaoke bar waiting for photos. We need to discuss your intentions immediately. A car will pick you up in 15 mins, wait inside for security. Do not leave the building together as it is still controllable speculation.
You could feel his body react to what he was reading, deep breaths, tensed muscles and finally pulling you in tightly. “What is it J?"
"I’ve got to get you out of here, the press are outside"
He handed you his phone, "add your number.”
But JYPs text was still open and you saw every word.
You keyed in your info and switched it off before handing it back.
You breathed deep, “You know, sneaking in and out of buildings is my specialty,” You put your hand over his heart and gave a sad smile.
“Don’t worry about me. I’m sure there’s a back entrance, I’ll just grab a cab home. If you go out the front they’ll be too busy taking photos of you, they’ll never notice me.”
You tried to sound confident and uncaring so he’d do what was best but Jaebeom had his own plan.
“Get your stuff, we’re going out the front together."
He pulled your hand through the bar and out the front door. Lights flashed as they took their photos for tomorrow’s headlines.
Hailing a cab he leaned over and kissed your lips, "I’m going to call you as soon as I can okay?”
You weren’t okay, your first kiss would be your last kiss. Your smile hid the stabbing pain in your heart, you knew it was over before it had started.
“Jaebeom,” you called him back after he closed the car door behind you, “It’s been a really great time.”
He smiled and waved.
Getting into the companies blacked out Suburban he was happy, he was going to stand his ground.
He’d felt bad that your first kiss had been under these circumstances so he opened his phone to text you a quick apology.
Searching the contacts  he found your entry, “I’m sorry” with random numbers underneath.
Tumblr media
So much for not getting attached. Unlocking the door you collapsed crying, the exhaustion of life had finally beaten you into submission.
The shrill ring of the store’s landline broke through the quiet of the courtyard, a reminder of his persistence. He wasn’t going to give up so you had no other choice but to cut him off.
-------------------------
Barely having slept, coffee in hand, you made your way over the wooden path to the store.
The indication light was flashing in a rhythm that brought back the sound of his heartbeat in your ear.
You have one unheard message…
Y/N, I know that you were happy last night, don’t walk away from this…from me.  Do you remember the day I first came into your shop? You asked me how I intended to fix you? I didn’t know then, I was just grasping for a shot…but…I know now..I’m just going to love you. All you have to do is let me…can’t you just let me?“
Reaching out you hit delete and tried to convince yourself it was for the best.
-------------------------
Watching from your office he’d come in everyday for a week. The staff, as instructed, told him you weren’t there but several times he’d caught you looking at him through the window.
He looked hopeful but you were sure he’d get over it, you’d get over it.
There was a light knock on your door before the handle turned.
"Hey, sorry Y/N, he insisted on leaving this for you.” She placed the book on your desk and left.
Running your hands over the cover you could tell it was well loved.
Its condition would normally drive you nuts but it was his, and in his passionate demeanor he’d most likely tackled it head first, caution less, as was his way.
You were unfamiliar with it, Tablo’s “Pieces of You."  Flipping through the marked up pages you found a bookmark, a hand drawn blue tree with flower petal leaves pointing to what he wanted you to see.
"So here I am,
Choosing to kick away the ladder
So that I may remain at your side.
I understand your solitude
I see your shadow.”
His phone number was scribbled on the inside cover with the inscription. “When you’re ready, whether it’s tomorrow or two years from now."
-------------------------
The worn book sat on your desk catching your eye every so often. He hadn’t been in for a few days, had he given up? Why did it hurt to think maybe you’d never see him again?
"Fuck,” you opened the cover And picked up your phone.
Y/N: I miss you and I don’t want to do that anymore.
JB: You don’t have to, just let me in.
Y/N: I need some time.
JB: I’m just….Y/N…don’t shut me out okay?
He left you space as requested ….sort of.
Every night you got notifications of his v lives. He talked to you indirectly through the camera, speaking about the books he’d read while sending secret messages through his song choices playing in the background.
He looked happy and he never wavered when your name was brought up by the fans. He stood up for you, called you a friend and told people they shouldn’t say such horrible things.
Slowly he was breaking your resolve, you were healing.
📖 Lady: I really enjoyed Pieces of You.
He smiled knowing you were online. He queued up his next track, it was Junny’s By my side  and he sang…
stay right by my side
And let me teach you how to love
With you I just can’t get enough, oh girl
He closed his eyes and hummed in contentment.
Your phone notification broke the  trance Jaebeom’s sweet melody had lulled you into.
Yoongi: Can we meet, I think we should talk.
Y/N: I don’t fucking think so.
Yoongi: it’s about Jaebeom.
-------------------------
You got to the coffee shop early and were surprised he was already there, punctuality was never his strong suit.
He stood to greet you. Thinking better of the hug he was going for, he gestured to the chair.
“I want to say I’m sorry”…he stammered over his words.
“I know it means nothing and you hate me but…I am…sorry.”
He remembered your order and it was already on the table.
“Can we just cut the shit. Why exactly do you want to talk to me about Jaebeom?”
He ran his hand up the back of his neck, “I keep getting messages from the fans about you two.”
“You know what Yoongi, I’m tired of your fucking fans. They’ve sent me hundreds of death threats, they write rude comments on my business page and now that someone actually likes me again they keep telling him that I’m a piece of shit."
You spit the feelings that had been trapped inside you out at him.
"You know you could have told them to stop, but you didn’t.”
He looked at you puzzled and pulled up his weverse page.
“You think it’s only you?”
He scrolled through reading you select comments.
“I’ve lost all respect for you Yoongi… I can’t believe you’re a cheater. Here, this one’s great……..Y/N deserves better, I’m happy she’s with JB now…"
You were shocked, not once had you seen or received messages that were team Y/N.
"Well you fucking deserve it."
He shrugged, "Jaebeom, he’s a decent guy…Jungkook’s been talking to Yugyeom and word is you’re not giving him a chance because of what happened.”
He wouldn’t look up from his Americano.
“Don’t let me fuck up your life any more than I already have okay, I’m not worth it."
You sighed, reaching across the table to touch his arm.
"I appreciate that you’d come here to tell me that."
He picked up your hand and held it tightly in his.
"I’m sorry I did this to you. Let him be the man I couldn’t."
Standing to leave he kissed your cheek, grabbed his coffee and walked away.
-------------------------
Sitting in your office there was a soft knock at the door, "Hey, sorry, I just…did you,” she approached apprehensively with a cup of tea, “have you seen the dispatch page?”
It didn’t take long, the photos, the headlines, the comments…
Yoongi and Y/N are back together! Seen today, the couple were holding hands and kissing over coffee. Was she just using Lim Jaebeom?
You felt the wind knocked out of your lungs, of course this would happen.
Had Jaebeom seen? What would he think? As you sat panicking he sent a text.
JB: Just can’t manage to stay out of trouble, huh? I’m beginning to think you tip off your own location to Dispatch to grab the headline.
You threw your phone into the drawer and slammed it shut.
He waited, no answer, shit… he’d shoved his foot in his mouth again.
Why did he turn into a completely inarticulate unfunny  idiot when it came to you?
JB: Y/N I’m sorry that was supposed to be a joke…
-------------------------
You looked at your assistant, “I think I really fucked up, you want to go out and get completely loaded tonight?"
She smiled agreeing, "I’ll start closing, you go put on something sexy."
You stood to leave, "May as well, If I’m going to get accused of stupid shit I might as well make it worthwhile.”
-------------------------
The drinks flowed freely and you just didn’t give a fuck anymore, about anything. If they were all watching, you didn’t care. You danced, you sang, you laughed, you needed no one. Until he was in front of you.
“Shit, let’s go”, you grabbed your friends hand but she smiled devilishly at you.
“I called him, its time to get the fuck over it Y/N. You’ll thank me later,” She waved him in and walked away.
Zeroing in on you, he made his way over. Ready on the defensive you expected him to be angry.
In your best effort to save face you’d cut him off before he could you.
“If you want to be mad at me go ahead, but I fucking warned you this would happen.”
You were pointing at his chest, trying to drive your point home.
“So if you’re here to tell me you don’t want anything to do with me, you go right ahead Lim Jaebeom."
"Are you done?” He raised his voice.
“You are the most stubborn girl I’ve ever met Y/N. I’ve gone to bat for you for the last month, I never gave up. AND! despite how hard you’ve pushed me away I’ve never left. Do you think I’d actually walk away because of a dispatch article?"
You both stared in a deadlocked gaze. Time standing still until he wrapped his arms around your waist. You could feel a million eyes on you all at once.
"Take me home Jaebeom.”
He grinned and kissed your forehead, “I thought you’d never ask."
Tumblr media
The ride was quiet, you tucked your head under Jaebeom’s arm, the vehicle’s movements making you sleepy. He held your hand like a nervous high school boy, afraid what he really wanted to happen was about to happen.
The car pulled up to the front of his place and he smiled nudging you awake. “We’re here.“
Drunk and groggy you looked around, "where’s here?"
He put his arm around your waist to keep you from falling over, "You’re at my place, in Hannam. Remember? You asked me to bring you home?”
You looked him up and down giggling, “Yeah I did.”
Trying to balance you and getting his key in the lock he finally got the door open. At least 5 cats came running to greet him, “Oh my God JB, you’re a crazy cat lady!"
"This is why I can’t have friends over,” he picked up the smallest fluffy one and kissed it’s head.
The pretty little Siamese brushed against your leg until you picked her up. He looked shocked, “She doesn’t like anyone."
"You purred into her fur, "Well I’m not just anyone, am I?”
“Clearly."
He walked over and took the cat from your arms, "Let’s take care of you. What can we do to minimize the hangover you’re going to have in the morning?"
He held your face in his hands. "What do you need?"
You were feeling a little dizzy, whether it was from the alcohol or his proximity you couldn’t be sure.
"Maybe some fresh air, water…your arms to keep me from falling over.” You propositioned.
He slid the balcony door open and led you outside. “You’re going to have to hold onto the rail till my arms get back."
The air was cool and you closed your eyes inhaling deeply, everything felt right.
Perched atop the Seoul Skyline the stars shone brightly in the astronomical twilight. In the grand scheme of all the overblown things that had taken place in the last few months, you were still just a small player in a larger roll occurring around you.
A helicopter broke through the silence of the night "Uh-oh, looks like Dispatch tracked you down already.”
You shot him a look, “what, too soon?”
He passed you a glass and an aspirin, “Drink.”
He stood close beside you, leaning on the rail staring out at the city.  You walked your hand over closing the distance until it touched his.
“I want to apologize."
He cut you off, "you really don’t have to, you didn’t do anything wrong."
He brought his hand the rest of the way to lay over top of yours.
"I’m pretty sure you once told me  to never apologize for showing your feelings because if you do you’re apologizing for the truth."
Amazed you turned to him, "You remember me saying that?"
He nodded as you moved towards his lips.
He pulled back, "Y/N, you’re drunk, I’ve already ruined our first kiss I’m not going to let you forget the second."
"You’re a good guy JB"
He wrapped his arms around you and rested his chin on your head.
"Unfortunately I am…so I’m going to have to send you to bed."
You looked up at him with big eyes and a pout, "You don’t want to sleep with me?”
“Jesus Christ, you think I don’t want you? You’re really making me question my morals right now.”
He ran his hand up your arm and sighed while spinning you back towards the door.
Flipping the switch his bedroom lit up before you.
“It’s so cozy Jaebeom-ah. Cats, Plants, nice sheets…how are you still single?"
He handed you a t-shirt from his drawer, "I was kind of hoping I’m not anymore…you can sleep in this."
You grabbed it looking upset, "I’m going to feel bad if you sleep on the couch.”
He undid the zipper that ran up the back of your dress. “You’re going to feel bad in the morning anyway plus you’re not even going to remember this conversation."
You broke out the pout again, "What if I get scared or lonely?”
He bent down and picked up the cat that had followed you since you arrived.
“Nora is the best company and she wouldn’t dare let anything happen to you.” He kissed your forehead and pointed, “Bed, now."
He was still laughing at you as he turned off the light and closed the door.
-------------------------
You woke up in the huge bed, alone save for the tiny cat curled up into your side. The smell of coffee wafted under the door calling you to get up but your head swam in scenarios.
You remembered him being a complete gentleman, you remembered falling asleep against the pillow that smelt like him, you remembered…he was just on the other side of the door.
You liked it here, you didn’t want to leave. You wanted him to know you weren’t a waste of time, you’d already lost so much of it by pushing him away.
Grabbing your phone you composed your words into a poem you needed him to hear.
I was fine on my own, every night I slept alone
The distance kept me safe
It’s easier to fake the feel than dance around with something real
Promises might break
Then you came along and said that I was different
You were missing something and it felt like we should see
Normally, I’d fall away, your face is a distraction
But I like the way that you’re distracting me
I went home before my friends so I could hear your voice again
But it feels strange to care
I hesitate to say out loud that when I’m drunk and in a crowd
I pretend you’re there.
We watch the helicopters from the top of your apartment
And all I could think is I don’t want to leave
Normally, I’d fall away, your face is a distraction
But I like the way that you’re distracting me
I’m writing this from your bed while you’re in the other room
I like what you do to me, and I wanna tell you soon.
Maybe you’ll shy away, maybe you’ll fall apart
It’s hard being honest, but I’m being honest
Get in the play, running your fingers through my hair
Don’t wanna behave, how do you act when no one’s there?
Feeling inside, feeling a way, it’s different and it’s working
Oh, you make me nervous, oh, you make me nervous
You read it over and flopped back on his pillow…send…you  heard his notification go off ….you waited.
-------------------------
There was a soft knock before he turned the handle.
He looked beautiful standing in the doorway. His pajama pants hung low on his waist, it was the first time you’d caught a glimpse of his body and your breath hitched at the sight.
Wrapped in nothing but his sheet you pulled the covers back in invitation.
He walked over to where you sat,  "Is this what you really want?”
You bit your lip and nodded.
He pulled his pants off letting them fall to the ground and he crawled in beside you.
His hands drew through your hair and his lips found their way to yours…properly, undisturbed, no flashbulbs to commemorate the event. It was soft and languid, his tongue taking its time to explore your mouth.
He pulled away to stare at you, “Tell me I can finally have you."
"All of me Jaebeom…I’m yours.”
He caressed your face, thumb sliding between your lips, over your chin and down your neck as he kissed into the crevice of your collar bone.
It had been so long, yet it had never felt like this. You could feel his desire with every touch, his lips, his fingertips and his hard cock pressed up against your hip.
“I want you so bad J,” your hands tugged through his hair as you wrapped your leg around his body to guide him in closer.
“Shit..Shit…do you have a condom? I just never thought this would happen..fuck"
You both collapsed back onto  the bed breathing heavy.
"Ugh, no,” you sighed frustrated.
He put both hands over his face, disappointed that even this moment couldn’t go smoothly.
You rolled into his side, “I never stopped taking the pill…and after what happened, I did get tested…I mean, if you’re not okay with it..it’s okay…we can wait.”
He placed his hand on your cheek and kissed you softly, “I haven’t been with anyone in years, it’s mandatory we get tested during our physicals…"
"Fuck thank God!” You rolled on top of him and ground yourself over him.
Laying kisses down his chest you let your fingers skim lightly over his abs. His skin tingled with goosebumps under your touch and you felt him twitch at your center.
“Are you ready?”
He nodded biting his lip, “Please."
He held your hips as you lined yourself up over him. Not breaking eye contact you slowly lowered yourself, taking him into you.
You felt like you could cry, it had been so long since you’d let yourself feel the intimacy of  giving yourself to someone.
You both moaned in unison as he hit your cervix. "You feel so good,” he sighed.
You didn’t move, you wanted to feel him in you, feel him filling you, this wasn’t just sex. You were both here, in the same place at the same time feeling the same thing.
There was no past, only two people fusing themselves to one another’s future.
You began rocking your hips. Looking down his face was focused, beautiful, lost. His lips were parted and soft breaths escaped from between them every time you met back together.
He held you pressed against him as he sat upright. Brushing away your sweaty hair he kissed your neck, your shoulders and down to your breasts. He touched them reverently, his fingertips brushing lightly over your nipples making you clench around him.
His face scrunched up, “oh my god baby, you can’t do that.. it feels too good.”
Pushing his hair back you placed kisses all over his face, “We can do this all day, as many times as we want, I’m not going anywhere.”
He secured his arm around you and flipped you onto your back.
Hands on both sides of your face he rolled his hips into you. He hit different, deeper, the repetitive sliding building up the orgasm inside you.
It wasn’t rushed but it was excited, your hands, mouths and bodies had no motive other than providing each other pleasure.
Wrapping both legs around him you held him tightly against your core. “I’m so close Jaebeom, so close…”
Your head was thrown back and your hands gripped the pillows beside you. You felt him cumming, spilling out of you as he continued. He didn’t give up until your nails were dug deep into his skin and he could feel you pulsing around him.
He collapsed on top of you trying to catch his breath, “Are you okay? Was it okay?”
You couldn’t help but smile at his sincerity, “It was perfect.”
Your voice trailed off and immediately noticing, he sat up to look at you.
“I’m scared Jaebeom, I don’t want this to start wrong, I don’t want to keep us a secret."
"Then let’s not.” He grabbed his phone and held it up to take a picture.
“Are you fucking nuts?” You asked while hiding in the sheets beside him.
He tapped the keys, “What are you writing?”
He wouldn’t answer you, “Jaebeom-ah, give me the phone…stop!"
Smiling he hit SHARE and handed it to you.

Reflections on Mulan
It took me a long time to cherish my Taiwanese-American heritage. Growing up in the United States, it wasn’t a facet of my identity that I attached any importance to. As a child, I even actively denied that part of me. Whenever my family went out to eat Chinese food, I threw a temper tantrum and would only eat if we stopped by fast food first. I didn’t bother speaking Chinese; I replied to my Mom’s Mandarin in English and I consistently repeated the entry level class for my Saturday Chinese-school until I was not compelled to go anymore. The only attempt to understand the vast history and traditions of my culture was acknowledging the bare minimum to profit off of the New Years.
While there are many reasons for my delayed acceptance of my culture and identity, the portrayal of Asians in Western Society was definitely a significant factor. Similar to many young children, I was deeply impacted by television and movies. My weeks were organized by TV show airtimes and the few times I was able to go to the movies were momentous occasions. I idolized the heroes on screen, wishing to become just like them. However, what I saw on the screen never closely resembled me. Almost all Western media featured white protagonists, and in the few moments there was somebody of Chinese descent, they were essentially a one-dimensional caricature that was completely unrelatable (for men, choose either kung fu master or a super nerd, and for women, choose an exotic hypersexualized love interest or submissive wallflower). Many values are actively defined and imprinted at a societal level, and this one was no different. The messaging from Hollywood was loud and clear: there is nothing valuable about being Asian American; this culture only deserves to be simplified to basic tropes.
To my delight, as my own relationship with my culture deepened and flourished over the decades, it seemed that the media’s portrayal of Asians were finally evolving as well. First starting on the fringes, with Asian-American content creators using new platforms such as YouTube to reach directly to their audience, then slowly creeping into the mainstream, with sitcoms and major blockbuster films. Finally, Asian-Americans can be cast as characters that were complex and interesting. Their only defining feature wasn’t just that they were Asian! Similar to white actors and actresses, it was just another part of their identity. Witnessing Asians star in these multifaceted roles has been amazing given how the landscape was just a few years prior.
I also understand that at the end of the day media is a business, and for this movement to not be temporary, Asians need to throw their full support when these things happen. Personally, I watched Crazy Rich Asians four times (two times in theaters, once on a plane, and then renting again at home to show my mom), and I’ve been subscribed to Wong Fu’s Patreon ever since I’ve learned of it. So of course, given this momentous live-action remaking of Mulan, I’ve been at the edge of my seat, excited and ready to support.
Especially given the cultural phenomenon that was Black Panther, I was ecstatic that Disney was going to take on Mulan again. While many were bemoaning the exclusion of Mushu, Shang and those classic songs, I actually grew more excited since the director stated that she made those decisions to be more faithful to the original legend. The anticipation kept growing and growing as the pandemic forcibly pushed back the release again and again. Until finally, this past Friday’s release on Disney+, where I eagerly paid the additional $30 premium access to be among the first to support the movie.
My disappointment was immeasurable.
While there are many major flaws to dive deep into regarding this movie (especially the superpowers that weaken the narrative of a woman fighting to be seen as an equal in a patriarchal society), I wanted to spend some time to speak on some smaller details that yanked me out of the immersion by how grossly misrepresented it was. In life, it’s the small actions that build up to communicate your intent. Love is shown by showing care and consistency in the tiniest of details; however, in this case, the small details accumulated to disrespect and disregard instead. These cultural details clearly didn’t matter to the people designing this film.
Warning slight spoilers ahead, but nothing too major if you’re familiar with the story.
The villagers from Mulan’s hometown all lived together in a Tulou (土樓), a circular earthen hut that can house many families. However these buildings are a facet of the Hakka people living in Fujian originating from the 12th century. Mulan’s story takes place in the Northern Wei Dynasty; which occurs during 386 to 534 AD and is, as the name describes, in the northern part of China. Not only is it geographically inaccurate, but there is a time difference of 600+ years there! That would be akin to placing a modern skyscraper penthouse into the Renaissance.
As someone who is learning more about Chinese tea to connect to their culture, the teapot used during the matchmaking scene was equally jarring. The teapot was a Yokode kyusu, a teapot that has a side handle 90 degrees from the sprout. While Japanese tea culture was originally imported from China during the Song Dynasty, the cultures have significantly diverged. Each has their unique vessels, tools, and processing techniques worthy of celebrating (matcha vs pu’er, sencha vs oolong, yokode kyusu vs yixing). However, maybe to the creators of this movie, east Asian culture is just all the same to them.
The phoenix was a central character in the movie, and to the chagrin of many fans of the original, Mushu’s replacement. As the Hua family’s ancestral guardian spirit, it provided a nice symbolism for Mulan, as her character’s male persona dies and she is reborn as Hua Mulan. What is egregious is that Phoenixes are not even an animal within Chinese folklore, that’s a Western (Greek) myth! While some may point out that there is a Chinese mythical bird called the Fenghuang (鳳凰), these are immortal birds that only choose to visit regions when there is peace and prosperity. What it definitely is NOT is a reincarnating bird leading warriors into the heat of battle. Sure, Fenghuang are genderfluid and that does match Mulan, but why was the only emphasized trait of the bird the aspect from Greek lore? Why bother taking out Mushu to be closer to the original if it’s replacement is a Western myth?
Finally, I have to bring up the obvious change in accents that happened when Mulan changed from a kid to an adult. Why cast a child actor with an American accent if the main character has a Chinese accent? There is no way that any other movie with a 200M+ budget would have allowed a white child actor to speak with an American accent, to then change it to a British accent when that character grew up and not even acknowledge it. Are we just supposed to be okay with it since they’re at least both Chinese looking?
No movie will ever be picture perfect in representing any culture, trade-offs are inevitable. However, I can’t see how those choices above added anything. Why would you make the villagers live in a Tulou? Was it critical to the plot? Every other Mulan adaptation is fine without a Greek Phoenix, why make it so necessary to this re-telling? Those small details exposed the attitude that I was all too familiar with growing up: who cares about representing actual Chinese culture?
After watching that movie, it felt as if the creative process was a room of white people gathered together, cherry-picking what fit their own narrative, sprinkling some Asian artifacts throughout, shrugging and saying to each other “That’s Chinese-y right? Good enough for me!” Imagine my lack of surprise when I checked to see that none of the screenwriters, producers or director had an Asian background. Chinese culture is the longest continuing culture in the world. It deserves to be shared for what it is (warts and all), not to be trivialized into a simplified palette that’s easiest to digest. Chinese representation in Western media should be about collaborating with us as peers, not to be used as a tool to extract the growing affluence of the Chinese and it’s diaspora.
I so badly wanted this to be a celebration, but now it’s a lose-lose situation. I wouldn’t want the younger version of me to watch this. It would have pushed me further away from my culture; I would either not relate to the characters alluding to “honor” every other sentence, or I would see that my culture isn’t worth even having just one person in this $200M major blockbuster film correct the gross cultural inaccuracies. On the other hand, I also don’t want critics to point at bad numbers and proclaim that Asian representation isn’t worth the investment.
I just wish for us to be portrayed as who we truly are.
