Whereas Kroos will get on a knee to get a better shooting stance on S2 with a serious expression in her base skin, she flashes a sunny smile, puts a hand on her hip, and hip-fires her crossbow in her new skin instead.
“How is she rapid-firing a crossbow she visibly reloads between single shots out of skill?” She’s Kroos and she can do whatever she wants.

Is this fanart for Link's Crossbow Training? Yes. Look, I love Stallord and I'm making the game canon to the Bad Moon linkverse-thingy.
No idea how to make a rapid fire crossbow so I'm giving Fuzzbutt a goat's foot lever style arrangement, and that makes reloading fairly quick and he's jacked enough to make good use of it. Probably made a lot of mistakes on the crossbow but shhhh...
This does mean Fuzzbutt no longer has the hero's bow, OoT/MM Link's old bow from Termina. But that's probably for the best because even if Tiny was a freakishly strong child Fuzzbutt deserves a bow for an adult (even if he is only like, 4'11").

Dear Hearts and Gentle People 13
Summary: You are kidnapped in the middle of the night while the two of you are camped out a little too close to fiend territory. Cooper finds you and makes them pay the price for taking you in the first place.
Pairings: The Ghoul | Cooper Howard x Female Reader
Warnings: Angst and Violence. Dark themes. Cooper is not a happy camper. Forced drug use and sexual assault but no rape. Blood and death.
Part 2 -> HERE
Masterlist
Tumblr media
It's been a week since the fiend leader Motor Runner and his crew of misfits had captured you. It'd been in the middle of the night, Cooper asleep and you on second watch. Your mind was already drowsy, and you hadn't been paying the best attention to your surroundings when you'd wondered off to take a pee that night. Four of them had jumped you, stuffing a dirty sock in your mouth and spraying some type of chem in your face that made you pass out within seconds.
Since then, they've kept you hopped up on a concoction of drugs. It was mostly a mix of jet and med-x, drugs that made you feel calm and foggy brained. Motor Runner had learned quickly that he couldn't touch you unless you'd been double dosed and restrained, wrists lashed behind you as you kneeled by his throne made of human skeletons They'd taken your clothes early on, leaving you in nothing but the thin underclothes to protect your modesty.
Cooper had woken that morning and found you gone, but your things still left behind. Panic and anger had set in immediately, and the ghoul gathered everything up before he started to follow the tracks that led into the destroyed city that surrounded the Strip. It was slow going. The ruins were rife with all kinds of surprises, and he'd had to fall back more than once after getting overwhelmed by a gang of fiends.
However, he'd finally arrived at Vault 3, and nothing was going to stop Cooper from getting you back.
You swayed side to side, high as a kite, and so drugged up that you weren't sure which was was up and which was down. The world spun around you, making you feel sick as bile curdled in your stomach. Motor Runner was saying something, but you couldn't be bothered to pay much attention. Your hearing felt muffled, but you could feel the vibrations of some type of explosion going off further up the Vault.
"Hear that, bitch? Sounds like someone actually tried to come save you. It's soo fuckin' bad that they'll never make it down here."
A gritty hand grabbed your jaw, and cool metal was pressed to your temple, digging in hard enough that it cut into your flesh. Blood wells up and drips down your chin to mix with the other disgusting fluids and gunk that stains your front. Your jaw aches, but you know better than to fight against what the fiend leader wants from you.
Cooper tosses another grenade down the hall, a terrible grin on his lips as the fiends scream in pain, shrapnel shredding through their flesh and sending blood splattering the walls. His side arm flashes in the dim red lighting of the vault, and Cooper relished in the carnage that he leaves behind him. The fiends deserved worse than death, and he would happily be the one to deliver their silence.
They put up more and more of a fight the deeper he went inside the Vault. The ghoul ducks into an abandoned room and quickly reloads, sliding rounds into the chamber with steady hands before he ducks back out into the hallway to blow away three unlucky men that'd been charging down the hallway with pool sticks.
One of them gasps for air, but he's still alive, so Cooper stops for half a second to haul the man up, slamming him against the wall. The bounty hunter's face is stained with red, and the fiend howls in agony when Coop digs his his finger into the bullet wound on the raiders' side.
"Where the fuck is she?" He spits and shakes the man when all he can do is cry, "Answer me you son of a bitch!"
"Down! Motor Runner has the bitch!" the man eventually screams and Cooper puts him down like he would a rapid dog. On he went, dropping fiends and tossing explosives when he could. The walls were painted red by his actions, and the entire vault looked like a murder scene by the time he'd made it to the lowest level.
Tears fell from your eyes as Motor Runner used your mouth, his heavy cock sliding in and out as he takes pleasure in using you. He grunts and moans like an animal, and you have never felt so shamed and disgraced before in your life. You gag around his length, and a sick combination of precum and drool drips from the side of you mouth to mingle with the blood already there.
This is the scene that Cooper arrives to, his features pulled down into an awful snarl as he points his hand cannon at Motor Runner. He takes you in, your bare chest, and the thin panties you wear that hardly cover anything. The fear and broken, defeated look that you wear across your beautiful face.
"Ha! Nice job gettin' down here, Rotter!" The fiend leader hisses and snaps his hips, vulger curves spewing from his lips, "Just in time to watch me cum down your cunt's throat."
Cooper hears you whine and watches you clench your eyes shut. He can hardly see through the film of red that covers his vision, so raged filled that his hand shakes from how tightly he holds his side arm. Motor Runner still has a pistol pressed against your temple, smart enough to not take any chances.
"She ain't yours, Fucker," Cooper snarls right back and takes a couple of steps forward, only to stop when the raider jerked you around to kneel in front of him, on display like come kind of fucked up prize. The fiend scoffs at him.
"Doesn't look like it's your cock in your mouth right now, does it?"
Even drugged and out of it, you can still register what's going on, and hateful shame fills you up to your core. With a vault full of fiends, fighting back had felt hopeless, but seeing Cooper made rage build up and bubble over. Motor Runner had made a mistake when he pulled his attention away from you, and you took your change the second You felt the barrel against your temple go slack.
Cooper watched as Motor Runner's face went white, a silent scream falling past his lips as you bite down as hard as you can. Your teeth pierce his dick, and blood wells up in your mouth as the fiend rips away from you. You fall back, jaw aching at you hit the ground with a thud. You grunt when the back of your head hits the concrete floor, and you see stars.
The ghoul dashes forward, grabbing you the arm to haul you to his side while the fiend wallows on the floor, his hands grabbing at his dick that hangs limp between his legs. Cooper fishes out his knife and cuts the rope around your hands, and you move before he can make sure that you're okay.
You fling yourself on top of the fiend, pinning him down with your knees on his shoulders as you wrap your hands around his throat. You use every ounce of strength you have left, squeezing and watching the life fade out of the man's eyes before you roll off his cooling body, laying on your back as you cry and stare up at the ceiling.
Cooper carefully picks his way over to you, crouching by your side and gently gathering you up and in his arms. You don't fight him and only cry harder when you pick up his familiar scent when you shove your face in the crook of his neck. You shiver and shake, relief filling your body as your ghoul holds you tightly.
"I'm sorry it took me so long to get to you, babygirl," Cooper rumbles, but you shake your head. You didn't care, the ghoul had come for you, and that's all that mattered. He gathers your frame up and stands with a soft grunt.
"Let's get outta here."

my mcc scuffed idea is that they bring back the battle box trench map but make it actual trench warfare, everyone is getting constantly shelled thorn-berries and cobwebs (barbed wire) are everywhere there's massive sinkholes someone has an insta-reload instakill rapid-fire bow (trench machine gun) randomly teams will just lose arbitrarily because they all contracted trench fever in game and it lasts about 5-11 hours no breaks allowed or Scott court maritals you for deserting

Fallout Ghost would be so Charon coded 🔥
Tumblr media
Yeah big Charon vibes. He'll take almost any contract and fulfill it to the letter, but you're only safe from him as long as you're paying him. I can also absolutely hear him going "I'm nobody's errand boy" lol
Here's me being absolutely feral for fallout au Ghost, cw for just the most unsafe firearm practices.
You pout, tipping your head to the side to avoid the barrel of Ghost's rifle. The sun warmed metal rests leisurely against your shoulder, the only part of you that's even remotely free from Ghost's pin. He's got your legs trapped under his broad chest, holding himself up against your ass as he looks down the scope. His fingers pet over your hip before going to drag the bolt back and forth.
"Don't move," He tells you in a low rumble, the overworked sound of scarred vocal chords ripples through you, and you have to stifle a shiver.
"Wouldn't this be easier with a tripod," You ask, not for the first time. You can almost feel the crease of Ghost's mask as he smiles the way his cheek presses against the curve of your ass.
"I offered to chain ya up," He reminds you. Ah yes, how could you forget. The tree still looms behind you, the heavy leather collar around your neck pressing against your neck with every breath. Ghost's finger itches against the trigger, you can feel the slide of his hand as he readies position. "Hold," He orders, and your breath catches tight in your throat.
You do your best not to flinch at the rapid explosion of noise beside your ear. There's no recoil, the butt of the rifle stuck tight against Ghost's shoulder, there's only the quick movement of his hand as he primes the barrel with another quick tug of the bolt. He picks off two more shots before you hear the soft click of him reloading. He's quick, but it's a second for you to breath. There's a loud ringing in your ears, a teariness to your eyes from the pain of it. That doesn't stop a fourth or fifth shot from ringing out. Ghost's position shifting the barrel against your shoulder as he finds his targets.
Ghost dispenses of the last shell and taps your cheek with the burning barrel. You flinch away. It gives him time to push himself to his knees. As soon as the rifle is off your shoulder you're pushing up onto your hands, attempting to get to your knees as well. Ghost's in the way, still holding you down against the attempted movement. It sounds like he's talking to you from under 30 feet of water. The sound muffled and distorted by the ringing in your ears.
He grabs your chin when you push yourself onto your hands again, twisting you to look at him. He's pulled his mask up, just enough for you to see his scarred lips. He speaks slowly, small words you can infer from bellow the surface.
"Try not to die," He advises. You give him a confused look and he clips a leash to your collar. Scarred lips tugging into a smile when you glance to find the other end of it tied to the tree.
He stands and you scramble to try and tug at the metal fastener. It doesn't budge, but Ghost does. He's already halfway down the hill towards the raider camp by the time your hearing returns enough to hear that he's turned his stupid fucking radio back on.
"A poor man's made outta muscle and blood," it croons, "muscle and blood and skin and bones."
"Try not to die" You crowd yourself closer to the tree, eyes darting around the scrubland in search of threats. He wouldn't leave you where it was dangerous would he? Would he?

The WILD ARMS Hero Tourney
Look I'll be real with y'all: I wanted to be super clever and evenhanded about these match ups, and not just pull names out of a hat. I had a whole schema in my head about how to balance shit and keep obvious fan favorites on opposite sides of the tournament, while also preventing any one game's cast, or even specific recurring archetypes to all be in the same bracket... and then I threw all that out because it got real complicated real quick....
And so I bring you instead this 4 division set up of mostly hand-picked match ups, only loosely curated, sometimes thematic, sometimes absolutely not, because to hell with balance!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
More detailed posting schedule under the cut...
Each of 4 Divisions is made up of Two opposed Brackets, each Bracket(except for one) is headed by a Wild Arms primary protagonist. I will run each batch of polls for FIVE DAYS before clocking results (a single day still feels like way too little time, but a full week would take us forever and I'm not up for a months long commitment to curate this right now, sorry...) Despite my fiddling, it really doesn't look like there's any version of this that's "quick" that doesn't involve just an stupid number of concurrent polls running at the start... so I guess this is just gonna take a while...
So to clarify, that makes the schedule thus:
WEEK 1 - Division 1 PRELIMINARIES Round 1: (5/15)
Rudy -v -Jet, Maya -v- Clarissa, Marivel -v- Mirabelle, Carol -v- Soleil

I don't know if it's a bug or intentional, but rapid fire weapons are really bad for stagger in AC6 because for some reason their low Cumulative Stagger rating causes the stagger to fall off faster in addition to causing less persistent stagger to begin with. So if you keep sustained fire up, the stagger from your older bullets will fall off in between shots, causing the target to not actually gain more stagger. I have experienced more than a few moments where my target began regenerating stagger while I was shooting them with the minigun because the stagger of the bullets that hit them 3 seconds ago has already worn off, despite taking constant fire.
Conversely, weapons with high Cumulative Stagger rating both cause more stagger per hit AND the stagger lasts longer, so single shot or low capacity weapons aren't even hindered by having to reload or overheating because the stagger they inflict reliably sticks throughout their downtime.
It creates this weird situation where the game just. Kind of lies to you by saying that rapid fire/automatic weapons are good for applying stagger and preventing enemies from recovering when that is just not what happens. I expect you can somewhat compensate for this by using dual trigger builds with two automatic weapons to double that stagger build before the Cumulative falloff, but it's still a bizarre issue that makes full auto weapons just markedly worse than single shot and burst weapons. Once I switched from the minigun to the Zimmerman shotgun, fights that gave me trouble were a cakewalk, and enemies consistently staggered, whereas the minigun had me tearing my hair out as enemies hovered at like 90% stagger while I unloaded on them.
If you're having trouble with full auto weapons, just try out a grenade launcher or shotgun and see if things get better.

Hey Res! Please ignore this ask if it's too troublesome or bothersome
I saw you had an guide for non-drikers writers that wanted to write about a character who drink. I was wondering if you could the same about guns?
I read synchronicity and I loved it how you used Jason's knowledge with guns to control the narrative and pacing. I don't know if you have actual technical knowledge on handguns (I think it's a no? But maybe you do?) But any tip is nice
Thank you a lot 🩷
Hi anon! This is such a fascinating question and I hope I can provide a somewhat plausible answer. I am familiar with some guns and have shot a few in my lifetime, but I am far from an expert.
Some things I think writers need to keep in mind while writing their firearm-related scenes. For clarity, I'm just going to call them guns below.
Are you thinking of a specific gun? Make sure you know its full name but ALSO make sure you know its nickname. Your character might think of it as "the Berretta" instead of its full name, etc.
What does your gun fire? Does it take shells, bullets, cartridges, etc? Shotguns, for example, don't fire bullets. That's a common mistake I see.
How do you reload said gun? Is it easy? What parts of the gun do you have to touch? Reloading a shotgun is MUCH different from reloading a handgun, for example.
Most guns get hot and release gunpowder residue when shot. They're LOUD. You can have several cascading things happen to a character who fires a gun or is near a gun when it fires: ringing ears, the smell of gunpowder, the hot feeling of the gun's muzzle, etc.
Even the best sharpshooters miss shots. IRL shooting is HARD, especially when moving. Different guns have different benefits to shooting style, stance, targets. Firing a handgun willy-nilly will rarely result in accurate shots, even if you dual wield (which is silly, this is SO hard).
Stance MATTERS. If you've ever seen Hannibal, there's a scene where Will talks about his choice of shooting stance with Beverly. They bicker over Isosceles and Weaver, which are two standard stances. One uses a triangle between your arms and the gun to brace for the kickback of the shot, while the other moves that brace to one side with a different grip. Will eventually chooses the latter stance because of a past shoulder injury. (GIF of Will struggling with his original isosceles stance)
Tumblr media
If a gun isn't properly braced when fired, it will kick back and hit you. Sometimes in the face. Yes this has happened with me and a rifle. My first day shooting cans, I had a huge bruise on my face AND on my chest where the rifle butt kicked back.
If your gun uses bullets, there are different calibers. If you've ever watched Mythbusters, you can see why caliber matters -- it depends what or who you're shooting. Are you trying to penetrate armor? Are you sacrificing accuracy for power? Different guns use different calibers for numerous reasons, and guns can be altered to use other ammo as well.
With respect to discussing caliber while writing: It's all VERY complicated if you don't know guns, so make sure you're not giving too much detail if you can avoid it. That's a very easy way to spot a lack of experience with guns, in my experience. Your reader doesn't need to know the caliber just because the character is shooting a gun -- but in an autopsy, sure, the caliber is relevant.
You will lose your hearing eventually if you fire guns close to your ears unprotected. It's not sexy, and it also causes something called tinnitus. The real pros wear ear protection.
In terms of realism for writing, here's a couple rapid fire busted myths: You can't dodge bullets unless you're superhuman. Bullet wounds to the legs/arms/shoulders can absolutely still be fatal. Cardiac arrest caused by being shot is usually fatal, and CPR doesn't really help on its own. "Running out of shots" depends on the gun AND the modifications someone has made to it. You can't always tell just by looking at a gun what it will do. Silencers are rarely "silent" and are heavily regulated.
Injuries: Some bullets tear through bodies. Some aren't high enough caliber to do more than go in and lodge in some tissue. Some fragment and bounce around in weird ways. Depending on how gruesome you want to get, there's a lot of different ways to describe gunshot injuries. I've always been the kind of person to google images for better understanding, but I understand that's not for everyone. I think NYT or WaPo did a good piece on traumatic gun injuries a few years back, complete with an interview with an ER doc from Chicago (?). One thing I learned there -- sometimes people lose their legs, or both legs, after being shot in their leg.
In terms of describing how someone uses/fights with guns, I know the John Wick movies are a little cheesy, but they are staged by people who REALLY know their guns. They talk about what he's using usually before the scene starts, and there's very few frills when it comes to stance, firing, etc. John does a cool trick in the first or second movie where he ejects a casing one-handed away from his face, a notoriously hard maneuver that most people usually do with two hands to avoid getting burned. I highly recommend watching the John Wick movies for blocking ideas.
Which reminds me -- holding a gun sideways is a terrible idea. For many reasons. Stance, casing ejection, stability, etc. Someone can use it against you.
Never point a gun at something you're not willing to shoot. Well-trained characters should follow this rule religiously. If they were soldiers, agents, etc, they will know this rule.
Similarly, multiple people with guns will "clear" a room before entering. They will be trained for something called crossfire, which is when someone is downrange of their gun and could potentially be shot. A group of characters bursting into a room without clearing their shot is a nightmare. This is how people shoot their friends or random civilians.
I hope someone more knowledgeable can add onto this! These are just some big things that stick out to me when reading. I highly recommend checking out Mythbusters, John Wick, and even Hannibal for some semi-realistic shooting references. Good luck!
