Before she leaves, I ask the Batgirl how she does it—keeps herself from falling to the influence of the reality engine.
It is my way of remembering him...a single-minded pursuit of vengeance, she answers.
Did you get it from him?, I ask.
I had it before him, she says.

Ram V's Detective Comics run is somehow out here acting like it's still the Rucka-Brubaker era of Bat comics and not 2023 and I want to know whose soul he sold to the devil to get DC to let him do that

No because you don’t understand - Cass didn’t become a vigilante because of Batman, doing good and pursuing righteous vengeance is a very part of her being in the same way as Bruce
She may use the symbol of the Bat but she’s MORE than that - she may follow in Bruce’s footsteps but she was always going to walk that path - her righteousness was not taught it was an inevitability
And that’s why she’s the natural progression of the Batman legacy - all of the Robin’s have learnt from and rebelled against Bruce’s teachings in equal measure, but Cass to her core holds Bruce’s values, the good and the bad, inside her on pure instinct

Reading the upcoming synopsis for the new TEC arc is so funny because it's like Ram V was reading Gotham War and everyone's reactions to it and was like "aight, time to cook." 😭

Last year we had three separate, supposedly-canon stories of the redemption of Harvey Dent and the return of Two-Face, all of which completely contradicted one another.
Now, the two main Batman books are both about Bruce Wayne dealing with a pair of entirely-distinct secondary personalities trying to seduce him into becoming a more brutal Batman.
Oh, and Harvey is featured in both, one of which where he’s in the middle of an incredible character arc, the other where he’s just another rogue just like in the old days.
The two main Batman books are running similar stories at the same time that are completely incompatible with one another. And no one seems to notice or care, or if they do, there’s no point complaining because this is just another week in the life of being a DC reader.
