NON-VISIBLE LIGHT
Context Amazon Rainforest | Brasil
Considerations .Endorsed by Manifesta Arte e Cultura  in partnership with The National Institute of Amazonian Research (INPA) .Published at the LV 17 Catalogue – launched at Galeria Vermelho (São Paulo) .Exhibited at the Ibirapi Gallery (Lisboa)
Assumption Considering the specificities of the Rainsforest, in what ways can methods of tracing bring to light new modes of observation?
Account The Amazon Rainforest is organized by a layering system which makes the exercise of capturing the specific light that reaches the floor, significantly more arduous from any other sites. Operating within cameraless methods, each emulsion-gelatin (containing radiation sensitive silver halide crystals) was left on the forest floor of different sites, for a few days in order to visually capture the electromagnetic radiation cast by the environment. The process-making entailed a rigorous cataloguing method of the non-visible light that goes through the different rainforest biomes.
Procedure Series of X-Ray photosensitive paper | distributed in 27 locations considering the Inductive Method of Experimental Investigation (Type B Uncertainty Analysis); the Sample, Type of Forest, Conditions, Strata, Period, Coordinates and Anisotropy.  “(...) perfectly reflects the simple side of a fieldwork, research, attention. These are signs of an ancient dedication, of a desire to know the world, which in addition to its validity, brings a calm in the face of the apocalyptic predictions that surround us. And so, in the approach of this show, we find a kind of skill, a requirement for method and patience, a sense so strong that it becomes almost therapeutic today.” In Journal I, about the Non-Visible Light at the Ibirapi Gallery

Why “Stop whining about 1st world problems and go help the people in the 3rd world* with their REAL problems” is a load of crapshit.
(*: This “argument” can also be used while using “Middle East” in place of “3rd world”; it’s still crapshit anyways.)
1) “1st world” and “3rd world” are meaningless terms.
There’s literally nobody who has ever been able to define a criteria through which we can classify a country a “1st” or “3rd world”. They’re just meaningless labels that are slapped around. Another thing is that they’re massive generalizations. Literally nobody would claim that, say, France and Germany have cultures so similar they’re interchangeable. And yet people generalize “3rd world” countries all the damn time, as if they were an indefinite amalgam and all of their cultural differences could be ignored with no loss.
2) It rests on the false assumption that, when someone talks about Issue A, then they don’t give a shit about issues B, C, D...
Let’s make an example:
“We must preserve rain forests”.
Did I say that every forest that is not a rainsforest can get all burned up and I don’t give a fuck?
Of course I didn’t. So why do bigots whine that protesters who protest about A don’t give a shit about B, C, D? Because it’s a way for bigots to demonize protesters. “Oh, look at those children being so hysterical about A, when they could do some REAL activism, like B, or C, or D...”.
[ADDED 01/01/2018] 2,5) It’s hypocritical.
The argument basically boils down to “You’re caring about X instead of caring about Y in that other country, therefore you’re bad and you should shut up about X”.
Those who make this argument always fail to realize that the exact same argument can be used against them: “You’re caring about me caring about X instead of caring about Y in that other country, therefore you’re bad and you should shut up about me caring about X - in other words, don’t fucking try to stop me from caring about X”.
3) It rests on the false assumption that we should only deal with the ABSOLUTE WORSTESTEST PROBLEM, regardless of whatever other issues there may be.
This is self-explanatory. What, do we find the one single human being on the entire planet that has the ABSOLUTELY WORST SITUATION IN ALL OF TIME-SPACE and help them, before going to help number 2 on the list?
4) It rests on the false assumption that the “1st world problem” that is being discussed is absolutely no problem whatsoever, and therefore you shouldn’t be talking about it at all.
Example: back in 2011, an atheism activist told an anecdote where, after already explaining to a group of people she doesn’t like being hit on at atheist conferences (because she isn’t interested in hooking up, but only in attending said conference) by people she barely even knows, she said that she was tired (it was 4 AM) and that she would be going to her room. While she was in the hotel elevator and about to go to her own room, one man from that group followed her in the elevator, and invited her to his room “for coffee”. There was nobody else around.
She refused, and the guy just went away. However, being alone in an enclosed space with a man who has already demonstrated he ignored her “no” made her uncomfortable; so, in a video aboutvarious stuff, she recalled this anecdote and said:
Um, just a word to the wise here, guys, don't do that. I don't really know how else to explain that this makes me incredibly uncomfortable, but I'll just sort of lay it out that I was a single woman, you know, in a foreign country, at four a.m., in a hotel elevator with you, just you, and I, don't invite me back to your hotel room right after I've finished talking about how it creeps me out and makes me uncomfortable when men sexualise me in that manner.
That’s it. She didn’t shame the guy, she didn’t doxx him, she didn’t name him, she didn’t go to a rant. Result: multiple years worth of harassment and accusations of “overreacting” and “comparing her experience to those of women being forced to wear burkas or undergo genital mutilation”.
5) It rests on the false assumption that “civilized person goes to 3rd world countries and enlightens the natives” has ever worked.
Because really: it hasn’t. At no point in history did an “enlightened” culture help an “uncivilized” country by going there, taking the place of the local rulers, and “uplifting” the local population. Not even once. Hell, just look at what happened in recent years in coutries like Iraq. Because the USA intervention worked so well! </sarcasm>
But really, you can’t help a population by taking its place in fixing their country. You can give support to the local people, but trying to “uplift” them is at best completely useless, at worst you’re trying to supplanting their culture with your own.
6) It’s a silencing tactic used by bigots in the “3rd world”, too.
Because there’s always someone else who has it worse than you.
“You’re an English woman who gets harassed at work? Don’t complain - Iranian women who are forced into burkas have it worse”. “You’re an Iranian woman and you’re forced to wear a Burka? Don’t complain - Iranian countrywomen who are forced into marriages have it worse”. “You’re an Iranian countrywoman and you’ve been forced into marriage? Don’t complain - that woman whose husband disfigured her with acid has it worse”. “Your husband has disfigured you with acid? Don’t complain - that woman who was killed by his husband had it worse”. And, of course, the dead woman cannot complain. So there’s no problem! (Warning: the previous line may contain heavy amounts of sarcasm.)
7) It’s an implicit threat.
“Don’t complain about what your oppressors do to harm you and limit your freedom, because otherwise they’ll oppress and harm you even more. So be grateful that only some of your rights are being suppressed”.
And it’s even worse if the one who’s trying to silence you is an explicit bigot: “Don’t complain about what I do to harm you and limit your freedom, because otherwise I will oppress and harm you even more. So be grateful that I am suppressing only some of your rights”.

Cairns Aquarium
Type: Aquarium
Country: Australia
Location: https://www.google.com/maps/place/Cairns+Aquarium,+122B+Lake+St,+Cairns+City+QLD+4870,+Australia/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x6978668defaaf1bb:0x3a401d993c56e47a?hl=en-US
Status: Under Construction
Planned Completion: May 2017
The Cairns Aquarium was announced in 2013 and construction started in Decmeber 2014. The aquarium will be located in the tropical city of Cairns, Queensland which is known for being close to the Great Barrier Reef and the Daintree Rainsforest. The aquarium will house 15,000 plants and animals, many of which are found only in the Great Barrier Reef and Daintree Rainforest, in 70 exhibits made up of almost one and a half million gallons of water. The aquarium was designed by Peddle Thorp Architects. The aquarium’s exterior walls are “made up of a series of giant "tectonic" plates to symbolise the movement of the earth's crust over time causing the development of giant land masses and ocean structures in the region that led to the creation of the Far North's tree covered mountains and the Great Barrier Reef.” The goal of the aquarium’s design is to be recognizable and an iconic destination in Cairns.
