I finally finished the Living World Season 1, I think over ten years after it was released!
I enjoyed the overall story more than I had recalled from the parts of it I did play back in the original release, though the endless Aetherblade respawns in "Escape from Lion's Arch" are intensely annoying. On the other hand, early career Snargle! <3
I'm trying to get over being annoyed, though, given how long I'd waited to see that first onscreen kiss between Marjory and Kasmeer—only for the family member who was working on the season with me to insist on playing the later stages of the Season 1 story arc with their gaming friends and having us all on Discord, when most of the friends are fairly conservative and had running commentary. It wasn't unhinged rants, but waiting ten years for a f/f kiss only to see it with "ew, onscreen?" in the background was really frustrating.
I found some bullshit excuse for noping out after Scarlet's death and then quietly finished the story after, without the pressure to just get going and stop talking to all the NPCs, etc. That was far more enjoyable (Marjory brought Kas flowers despite being the one injured ... <3 <3), but there are some things I just cannot solo and really wish I could, despite the whole "it's an MMO" thing.
But finally, Season 1 is done! Now for scraping together the last achievements...

Debunking myths about Jewish history
1. ‘’Ashkenazi Jews are white Europeans’’
Let’s start with the claim that’s been propagated the most on the Internet. The claim is that some ethnic Jews are indeed Middle-Eastern (e.g. Sephardi and Mizrahi), but that the Ashkenazi Jews specifically are (white) Europeans. This claim simply isn’t supported by scientific evidence.
The results support the hypothesis that the paternal gene pools of Jewish communities from Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East descended from a common Middle Eastern ancestral population, and suggest that most Jewish communities have remained relatively isolated from neighboring nonJewish communities during and after the Diaspora.
(...)
The m values based on haplotypes Med and 1L were ~13% ± 10%, suggesting a rather small European contribution to the Ashkenazi paternal gene pool. When all haplotypes were included in the analysis, m increased to 23% ± 7%. This value was similar to the estimated Italian contribution to the Roman Jewish paternal gene pool. (Hammer et al. 2000)
About 80 Sephardim, 80 Ashkenazim and 100 Czechoslovaks were examined for the Yspecific RFLPs revealed by the probes p12f2 and p40a,f on TaqI DNA digests. The aim of the study was to investigate the origin of the Ashkenazi gene pool through the analysis of markers which, having an exclusively holoandric transmission, are useful to estimate paternal gene flow. The comparison of the two groups of Jews with each other and with Czechoslovaks (which have been taken as a representative source of foreign Y-chromosomes for Ashkenazim) shows a great similarity between Sephardim and Ashkenazim who are very different from Czechoslovaks. On the other hand both groups of Jews appear to be closely related to Lebanese. A preliminary evaluation suggests that the contribution of foreign males to the Ashkenazi gene pool has been very low (1 % or less per generation). (Benerecetti et al. 1993)
A sample of 526 Y chromosomes representing six Middle Eastern populations (Ashkenazi, Sephardic, and Kurdish Jews from Israel; Muslim Kurds; Muslim Arabs from Israel and the Palestinian Authority Area; and Bedouin from the Negev) was analyzed for 13 binary polymorphisms and six microsatellite loci. The investigation of the genetic relationship among three Jewish communities revealed that Kurdish and Sephardic Jews were indistinguishable from one another, whereas both differed slightly, yet significantly, from Ashkenazi Jews. The differences among Ashkenazim may be a result of low-level gene flow from European populations and/or genetic drift during isolation. (Nebel et al. 2001)
Here, genome-wide analysis of seven Jewish groups (Iranian, Iraqi, Syrian, Italian, Turkish, Greek, and Ashkenazi) and comparison with non-Jewish groups demonstrated distinctive Jewish population clusters, each with shared Middle Eastern ancestry, proximity to contemporary Middle Eastern populations, and variable degrees of European and North African admixture. Two major groups were identified by principal component, phylogenetic, and identity by descent (IBD) analysis: Middle Eastern Jews and European/Syrian Jews. The IBD segment sharing and the proximity of European Jews to each other and to southern European populations suggested similar origins for European Jewry and refuted large-scale genetic contributions of Central and Eastern European and Slavic populations to the formation of Ashkenazi Jewry. Rapid decay of IBD in Ashkenazi Jewish genomes was consistent with a severe bottleneck followed by large expansion, such as occurred with the so-called demographic miracle of population expansion from 50,000 people at the beginning of the 15th century to 5,000,000 people at the beginning of the 19th century. Thus, this study demonstrates that European/Syrian and Middle Eastern Jews represent a series of geographical isolates or clusters woven together by shared IBD genetic threads. (Atzmon et al. 2010)
2. '’Ashkenazi Jews are the descendants of the Khazars’’
Another popular idea on the Internet, which is also associated with the alt-right, is that Ashkenazi Jews are the descendants of the Khazar people, from the Khazar empire (roughly 600-1000). This culture completely died out and there are no direct descendants, so genetic testing is a bit difficult.
Tumblr media
However, there still has been done genetic testing that confirms this hypothesis to be false.
Employing a variety of standard techniques for the analysis of population-genetic structure, we find that Ashkenazi Jews share the greatest genetic ancestry with other Jewish populations, and among non-Jewish populations, with groups from Europe and the Middle East. No particular similarity of Ashkenazi Jews with populations from the Caucasus is evident, particularly with the populations that most closely represent the Khazar region. Thus, analysis of Ashkenazi Jews together with a large sample from the region of the Khazar Khaganate corroborates the earlier results that Ashkenazi Jews derive their ancestry primarily from populations of the Middle East and Europe, that they possess considerable shared ancestry with other Jewish populations, and that there is no indication of a significant genetic contribution either from within or from north of the Caucasus region. (Behar et al. 2013)
However, if the R-M17 chromosomes in Ashkenazi Jews do indeed represent the vestiges of the mysterious Khazars then, according to our data, this contribution was limited to either a single founder or a few closely related men, and does not exceed ∼12% of the present-day Ashkenazim. (Nebel et al. 2005)
3. '’Palestinians are indigenous to the land of Israel, so the Jews can’t be indigenous’’
First off, it has been established that Jews and Palestinians share the same ancestry:
Archaeologic and genetic data support that both Jews and Palestinians came from the ancient Canaanites, who extensively mixed with Egyptians, Mesopotamian and Anatolian peoples in ancient times. Thus, Palestinian-Jewish rivalry is based in cultural and religious, but not in genetic, differences. (Arnaiz-Villena et al. 2001)
If Palestinians are considered native, then so should Jews, since both descend from the ancient Canaanites.
Furthermore, the Hebrew Bible states that Philistines (’’Palestinians’’) came from Caphtor, which has been identified as modern-day Crete, an island that is part of Greece (see also Finkelstein 2002). Other contestants for Caphtor include Cyprus and Cilicia (modern-day Turkey).
Archeological evidence also supports this theory:
Modern archaeologists agree that the Philistines were different from their neighbors: Their arrival on the eastern shores of the Mediterranean in the early 12th century B.C. is marked by pottery with close parallels to the ancient Greek world, the use of an Aegean—instead of a Semitic—script, and the consumption of pork. (National Geographic)
This was more recently confirmed by DNA evidence:
Now, a study published today in the journal Science Advances, prompted by the unprecedented 2016 discovery of a cemetery at the ancient Philistine city of Ashkelon on the southern coast of Israel, provides an intriguing look into the genetic origins and legacy of the Philistines. The research appears to support their foreign origin, but reveals that the reviled outsiders were soon marrying into the local populations. (...) The four early Iron Age DNA samples, all from infants buried beneath the floors of Philistine houses, include proportionally more “additional European ancestry” in their genetic signatures (roughly 14%) than in the pre-Philistine Bronze Age samples (2% to 9%), according to the researchers. While the origins of this additional “European ancestry” are not conclusive, the most plausible models point to Greece, Crete, Sardinia, and the Iberian peninsula. (Idem)
Now, this doesn’t mean that modern-day Palestinians are mostly European, as the research also found that the Philistines were mixing with the local populations. This also explains why modern-day Jews and modern-day Palestinians are genetically very similar (see above). It is highly unlikely that modern-day Palestinians are the direct descendants of the ancient Philistines.
However, the name ‘’Palestine’’ is derived from ‘’Philistia’’:
The first records of the Philistines are inscriptions and reliefs in the mortuary temple of Ramses III at Madinat Habu, where they appear under the name prst, as one of the Sea Peoples that invaded Egypt about 1190 BCE after ravaging Anatolia, Cyprus, and Syria. After being repulsed by the Egyptians, they settled—possibly with Egypt’s permission—on the coastal plain of Palestine from Joppa (modern Tel Aviv–Yafo) southward to Gaza. The area contained the five cities (the Pentapolis) of the Philistine confederacy (Gaza, Ashkelon [Ascalon], Ashdod, Gath, and Ekron) and was known as Philistia, or the Land of the Philistines. It was from this designation that the whole of the country was later called Palestine by the Greeks. (Encyclopædia Britannica)
Modern-day Palestinians are the descendants of local populations who converted to Islam due to Islamic conquest. Likewise, Jews are the descendants of local populations who left the country. Despite this, both groups are genetically related to each other. This is because Jews have been a relatively isolated group of people, since the religion of Judaism doesn’t permit interfaith marriage (unless a non-Jew converts into the faith). In other words: the fact that the Palestinians may be indigenous to the land of Israel doesn’t negate the fact that the Jews are indigenous to the land of Israel.
Our findings corroborate previous studies that suggested a common origin for Jewish and non-Jewish populations living in the Middle East (Santachiara-Benerecetti et al. 1993; Peretz et al. 1997; Hammer et al. 2000).
(...)
According to historical records part, or perhaps the majority, of the Moslem Arabs in this country descended from local inhabitants, mainly Christians and Jews, who had converted after the Islamic conquest in the seventh century AD (Shaban 1971; Mc Graw Donner 1981). These local inhabitants, in turn, were descendants of the core population that had lived in the area for several centuries, some even since prehistorical times (Gil 1992). On the other hand, the ancestors of the great majority of present-day Jews lived outside this region for almost two millennia. Thus, our findings are in good agreement with historical evidence and suggest genetic continuity in both populations despite their long separation and the wide geographic dispersal of Jews. (Nebel et al. 2000)
4. ‘’Well, the Palestinians were there first’’
As discussed before, the ancient Philistines from the book of Deuteronomy are said to have immigrated from Caphtor, which has been identified as island in southern Europe. The ancient Philistines have no direct descendants because they mixed with local populations. The ancient Philistines are also mentioned in the book of Genesis, which mentions they came from Egypt. According to rabbinic sources, this refers to a different people from the Philistines mentioned in the book of Deuteronomy. As discussed before, modern-day Palestinians descend from neither of these people. Palestinians maintain they are the descendants of the ancient Canaanites:
Both Israeli and Palestinian politicians claim the region of Israel and the Palestinian territories is the ancestral home of their people, and maintain that the other group was a late arrival. “We are the Canaanites,” asserted Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas last year. “This land is for its people…who were here 5,000 years ago.” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, meanwhile, said recently that the ancestors of modern Palestinians “came from the Arabian peninsula to the Land of Israel thousands of years” after the Israelites. (National Geographic)
As discussed, modern-day Jews and modern-day Palestinians are genetically very similar. This was again established by a recent study:
Finally, we show that the genomes of present-day groups geographically and historically linked to the Bronze Age Levant, including the great majority of present-day Jewish groups and Levantine Arabic-speaking groups, are consistent with having 50% or more of their ancestry from people related to groups who lived in the Bronze Age Levant and the Chalcolithic Zagros. These present-day groups also show ancestries that cannot be modeled by the available ancient DNA data, highlighting the importance of additional major genetic effects on the region since the Bronze Age. (Agranat-Tamir et al. 2020)
According to the Bible, when the Israelites left Egypt, they conquered the Canaanites, who were already living in the land of Israel. Joshua 10:40 mentions there are no survivors of the ancient Canaanites. However, the Bible was written much later after these events took place. The study referenced above supports the hypothesis of continuity, i.e. the ancient Canaanites were not completely wiped out by the Israelites. Instead, Canaanite culture slowly morphed into other cultures, including the culture of the Israelites. As referenced under 3., it is likely both Jews and Palestinians came from the ancient Canaanites.
The Bible itself also mentions the Canaanites continued to exist in Judges 3:1-3 and explains the command to the Israelites was only given to teach them warfare (not to actually annihilate the Canaanites). It is more likely the Canaanites indeed continued to exist:
We show that present-day Lebanese derive most of their ancestry from a Canaanite-related population, which therefore implies substantial genetic continuity in the Levant since at least the Bronze Age. (Haber et al. 2017)
To put it differently, in the land of Israel, the ancient Canaanites were not destroyed, but rather subsumed by the Israelites. The Jews have maintained this culture and tradition. The Palestinians, on the other hand, have not. Palestinians didn’t maintain any tradition from the ancient Canaanites. Instead, their culture, tradition, and language can be traced back to the Hejaz, a region in the west of modern-day Saudi Arabia. This is also the birthplace of the religion of Islam.
Indeed, up until recently, Palestinians were not even called ‘’Palestinians’’. Instead, they were referred to as ‘’Palestinian Arabs’’. A report from 1946 gives more insight. In Chapter VI, titled ‘’The Arab Attitude’’, it states the following:
The Committee heard a brief presentation of the Arab case in Washington, statements made in London by delegates from the Arab States to the United Nations, a fuller statement from the Secretary General and other representatives of the Arab League in Cairo, and evidence given on behalf of the Arab Higher (committee and the Arab Office in Jerusalem). In addition, subcommittees visited Baghdad Riyadh, Damascus, Beirut and Amman, where they were informed of the views of Government and of unofficial spokesmen.
Stopped to the bare essentials, the Arab case is based upon the fact that Palestine is a country which the Arabs have occupied for more than a thousand years, and a denial of the Jewish historical claims to Palestine.
This report states Arabs have lived in Palestine ‘’for more than a thousand years’’, referring to the Islamic conquest of Palestine in the 7th century. Clearly, Palestinians are identified as Arabs here, by Palestinian leaders themselves.
Another report from the same year supports this view:
In addition to the question of right, the Arabs oppose the claims of political Zionism because of the effects which Zionist settlement has already had upon their situation and is likely to have to an even greater extent in the future. Negatively, it has diverted the whole course of their national development. Geographically Palestine is part of Syria; its indigenous inhabitants belong to the Syrian branch of the Arab family of nations; all their culture and tradition link them to other Arab peoples; and until 1917 Palestine formed part of the Ottoman Empire which included also several of the other Arab countries. The presence and claims of the Zionists, and the support given them by certain Western Powers have resulted in Palestine being cut off from other Arab countries and subjected to a regime, administrative, legal, fiscal and educational, different from that of the sister-countries. Quite apart from the inconvenience to individuals and the dislocation of trade which this separation has caused, it has prevented Palestine participating fully in the general development of the Arab world.
You can see the story changed overtime. The Palestinian claim to Canaanite blood is an ad hoc claim that is meant to predate the Jewish presence in Israel.
In general, the Palestinian claim to Canaanite roots also erases the fact that the Israelites drove the Canaanites out of Israel, to Lebanon. The remaining Canaanites were subsumed by the Israelites. Therefore, if Palestinians are native to the land of Israel, and if they descend from the Canaanites, then they must also descend from the Israelites. However, Palestinians attempt to bypass the Israelite link, claiming to not descend from the Israelites. I believe they likewise deny that the Jews descend from the Israelites, claiming that instead the Jews are just Europeans.
This wouldn’t be the first time the Palestinians changed their narrative either. They used to claim they descend from the ancient Philistines, referring to Genesis 21:34 as proof:
And Abraham stayed in the land of the Philistines for a long time. (New International Version)
As such, the Palestinian PM argued they have lived in the land of Palestine before Abraham. (Video is in the article.)
As explained earlier, the Philistines immigrated from southern Europe, and the Palestinians are not directly descended from them, given the DNA evidence. The ancient Philistines have disappeared as a people, because they mixed with local populations. That also explains why modern-day Palestinian DNA is not mostly European, as would be the case if they directly descended from the Philistines.

OC Interview meme (again) - Asura edition.
[L - R: Yhalea. Aloreca. Blixxie. Viianna. Nokomai]
INTRODUCTION
Aloreca: Interview? With my krewe. Oh if you must, but we really can't stop for long so I hope you're ok following us around. Set up some microphone drones to follow us around and as long as they don't get in the way that's fine, yes yes. Krewe, go about your business.
Can you introduce yourself?:
Blixxie: I'll take this one, the others look like they're a little busy right now. I'm Blixxie. They call me the gopher of the group. I don't think I look like a gopher, do I? They're little creatures that dig in the ground.
Nokomai: We send her on errands a lot.
Blixxie: Right, right. I keep busy though! The Blonde is Yhalea, she's like, the co-boss along with Aloreca, the white haired lady. Not really sure who's in charge, yaknow? But they work together well. The dark haired one is Viianna. Vii travels a lot and works with the Commander.... Commanders? Yeah. And finally over there by the holo station is Nokomai. She's into hard light tech and holo-ma-grams. We all work directly with the Commander now and part of the Celestial Order guild. We don't have an official krewe name because Yha and 'Reca kept fighting over it, so we're just the Commander's Krewe!
What is you gender identity, orientation and relationship status?:
Yhalea: Who is this interview for again? Some Krytan gossip rag or something actually important? Ugh. Simpletons. We're an all female krewe and we have no time for dilly dallying with a partner.
Where and when were you born?:
Yhalea: All born in Rata Sum and our birth years vary from 1295 to to 1305 AE. Blixxie's the baby, as you may have guessed.
What is your weapon of choice and fighting style?:
Yhalea: Various. We prefer if we can send in golems to do the dirty work, but if we must get into the thick of it so be it. Myself and Aloreca prefer melee fighting. Nok' and Vii prefer magic, and we try to keep Blixxie out of it, but if she must some ranged weapons like bows or pistols. But we'd rather not have her fighting.
Lastly, are you happy?:
Blixxie: Sure as beans!
Nokomai: What?
Blixxie: I dunno. I'm happy eatin' beans.
Aloreca: Yeah. We're doing ok as a group. Commander's got her issues going on and we're sad over the losses too, but back here in the lab, yeah we're good.
FAMILY AND FRIENDS
What’s your family like? What is your relationship with them?:
Viianna: We all have biological family lurking across Tyria somewhere, with the exception of Yha and 'Reca, dunno what happened there, but these gals, these gals are family now. Oh, and the guild, can't forget about them.
Have you ever ran away from home?:
Aloreca: Er. You could call it that, sure. Dumb mistakes after college. You know how it is.
Yhalea: No comment
Would you consider marriage or having children?:
Viianna: Maybe?
[The others shake their head]
Do you secretly hate one of your friend?:
Blixxie: Gosh, no! How could you ever hate a friend? How awful.
Which friend knows everything about you?:
Nokomai: We all practically live on top of each other, so there's not much that gets by any of us. The bosses have some sort of history, but it doesn't interfere with the here and now, so it's fine.
ASKED BY FANS
Are you literate? Have you been to school?:
Yhalea: We all graduated from our respective colleges with honours. Between us we can communicate in New Krytan, various other human dialects, Asuran of course, Aloreca can speak a few words of Jotun, and Blixxie has picked up some Hylek.
The eeriest prediction you made that later came true?:
Aloreca: Predictions are not really eerie when based on maths.
What is something you were embarrassingly late to realize?:
[All the krewe look at each other and shift nervously]
Nokomai: Next.
Do you have mental health or physical issues?:
Aloreca: Tip top health. Annual physicals and evals for the krewe and we're good at checking in on each other.
Viianna: Blix is a little simple but we don't --
Aloreca: Behave, Vii.... Blix is just different.
What is your current main goal?:
Aloreca: Advance the science. Be there when the Commander needs us.
CHOICES
Drink or food?:
Blixxie: FOOD! I uh, kinda like cooking for the girls.
Cats or dogs?:
Aloreca: *Sighs* We have some of the Commander's cats around here somewhere. Some of them didn't like the cold of Hoelbrak and it's a little warmer here. Pad and Blink are who we're looking after at the moment.
Early bird or night owl?:
Yhalea: Early bird for sure.
Optimist or pessimist?:
Viianna: We're scientists so we prefer realistic goals. But it never hurts to be optimistic, sure.
Sassy or sarcastic?:
Nokomai: We're five asura scientists in a small space. Sarcasm is our second language.
HAVE YOU EVER
Been caught sneaking out:
Nokomai: Out of the college dorms all the time. The Peacemakers always marched us back and we'd get in trouble for a few days. Confined to dorms, made to do extra work. Blegh.
Broke a bone:
Aloreca: There was a gliding accident in the jungle during the Maguuma Operation where I broke a bone in my arm, but that healed up nicely. I do like to keep that arm braced though, just in case.
Received flowers:
Yhalea: For experiments, sure. As uh, a token of affection? No, not something we do.
Ghosted someone:
Blixxie: I don't like ghosts. I saw some in Ascalon once with Vii. She took me back to the Citadel and dropped me off with some Priory friends, I didn't leave my cot til she came back for me.
Pretended to laugh at a joke you didn’t get: Flattery will get you everywhere.
Blixxie: I lov--
Yhalea: Don't encourage her to talk about jokes. Please.

DC Rebirth (2016–present)Edit
In Rebirth, Tim Drake still operates under the Red Robin alias. He gains a new and third overall Red Robin suit similar to his first Robin suit except with two "R"s as his logo instead of one. It is revealed later on in Detective Comics #965 that Tim Drake's origin story has reverted to that of the original universe, where he discovers Batman and Robin's identities after Jason Todd's death, and became Robin before adopting the Red Robin persona.
Tim is primarily featured in "Detective Comics" as part of Batman and Batwoman's new team in Gotham, along with Orphan, Spoiler, and Clayface.[41] Red Robin, Orphan, Spoiler, and Clayface are being trained as a group by Batman and Batwoman, who are preparing them for the upcoming enemies known as the Colonists.[41] The Colonists are revealed to be a military group under the command of Batwoman's father, Jake Kane, who have modeled themselves after Batman in a more violent matter. After the team rescues Batman and Tim hacks their database to discover their plans, Jake sends two waves of Bat-Drones to take down the "League of Shadows," which will kill hundreds of innocents in the process.[42] As his other teammates evacuate the locations the drones were sent to, Tim hacks the drone's mission directive to make himself the sole target, knowing that the drones will stop once the target is eliminated.[43]
While Tim manages to take down the first wave of drones, he is apparently killed by the second wave, devastating the Bat family and his former Teen Titans teammates.[44] Prior to the mission, Tim was accepted to receive a genius grant from Ivy University, and planned to study there after defeating the Colonists.[43]However, just before Tim was blasted by the second wave, he is teleported to an unknown place by Mister Oz and kept prisoner. Tim swore that his friends will find him.[45]
Later, Batman learns from Ascalon, a robotic entity created by the Order of St. Dumas, that Tim is still alive, with Batman resolving to find Tim.[46]
In Mr. Oz's prison, Tim is forced to relive his memories of the past by Mr. Oz. Realizing that Mr. Oz is using Kryptonian technology, Tim easily hacks into it and frees himself as Mr. Oz reveals his identity as Jor-El and disappears. As he tries to find a way out, Tim finds Batman but discovers this version of Batman is actually Tim Drake from the Titans Tomorrow future. Unable to accept a future where he decides to become Batman, Tim is forced to aid his older-self in evading and containing a freed Doomsday. Tim learns from his future self that Dick, Jason, and Damian all tried to be Batman but either retired or was forced to be put down by Tim (in the case for Damian). After Doomsday is lured back to his cell, both Tims teleport out of Mr. Oz's prison and arrive in Gotham in the Titans Tomorrow future. Before being sent back, Tim is asked by his future self to apologize to Conner but the younger Tim has no idea who Conner is, although he later admits that the name is tugging at his heart, though he doesn't know why. Tim is incapacitated by his future self as the latter decides to go back in time to kill Batwoman, the apparent cause of Tim becoming Batman.[47] Tim returns to Gotham and is reunited with the Bat Family but warns them about Future Tim.
After a battle with Ulysses Armstrong and Brother Eye, Tim and Stephanie leave Gotham to investigate the alternate timelines, and Tim's restored memories of his past friends from Young Justice. This leads him to Metropolis, where he is reunited with Wonder Girl, Impulse, and meets Teen Lantern and Ginny Hex. The five young heroes later travel to Gemworld, where they are also reunited with Superboy, and meet Princess Amethyst. Lost in the Multiverse, Young Justice struggles to return home, with Tim taking on the new identity of Drake.

My poll about GW2 features we'd like resulted in a tie (at 18.9%) between "customizable house in the home instance" and "your personality choices having real consequences."
I was surprised at the second getting so much traction (among the 74 voters, in fairness), but not by the first. A customizable house would be so cool!
I know the guild hall is customizable to some extent, but you have to have permissions to even do it. And it can be difficult to get one if you're a more solitary player. And it's only so customizable in the first place. Base customization in City of Heroes had more options and was easier to obtain, and that was years ago.
The home instance customization is even more limited and standardized, which is where I would actually want to invest in a house. It's got to be doable. It could even be sold in the gem store like the extra garden plot if ArenaNet wanted, and I am pretty sure people would pay real money for it.

THE PROPHECY OF Zacharias - From The Douay-Rheims Bible - Latin Vulgate
Chapter 9
INTRODUCTION.
Zacharias or Zachariah began to prophesy in the same year as Aggeus, and upon the same occasion. His prophecy is full of mysterious figures and promises of blessings, partly relating to the synagogue and partly to the Church of Christ. Ch. --- He is the "most obscure and longest of the twelve;" (S. Jer.) though Osee wrote the same number of chapters. H. --- Zacharias has been confounded with many others of the same name. Little is known concerning his life. Some have asserted that the ninth and two following chapters were written by Jeremias, in whose name C. xi. 12. is quoted Mat. xxvii. 9. But that is more probably a mistake of transcribers. Zacharias speaks more plainly of the Messias and of the last siege of Jerusalem than the rest, as he live nearer those times. C. --- His name signifies, "the memory of the Lord." S. Jer. --- He appeared only two months after Aggeus, and shewed that the Church should flourish in the synagogue, and much more after the coming of Christ, who would select his first preachers from among the Jews. Yet few of them shall embrace the gospel, in comparison with the Gentiles, though they shall at last be converted. S. Jer. ad Paulin. W.
The additional Notes in this Edition of the New Testament will be marked with the letter A. Such as are taken from various Interpreters and Commentators, will be marked as in the Old Testament. B. Bristow, C. Calmet, Ch. Challoner, D. Du Hamel, E. Estius, J. Jansenius, M. Menochius, Po. Polus, P. Pastorini, T. Tirinus, V. Bible de Vence, W. Worthington, Wi. Witham. — The names of other authors, who may be occasionally consulted, will be given at full length.
Verses are in English and Latin.
HAYDOCK CATHOLIC BIBLE COMMENTARY
This Catholic commentary on the Old Testament, following the Douay-Rheims Bible text, was originally compiled by Catholic priest and biblical scholar Rev. George Leo Haydock (1774-1849). This transcription is based on Haydock's notes as they appear in the 1859 edition of Haydock's Catholic Family Bible and Commentary printed by Edward Dunigan and Brother, New York, New York.
TRANSCRIBER'S NOTES
Changes made to the original text for this transcription include the following:

Greek diacritical marks have not been represented in this transcription.
Footnotes. The original text indicates footnotes with special characters, including the astrisk (*) and printers' marks, such as the dagger mark, the double dagger mark, the section mark, the parallels mark, and the paragraph mark. Unreadable text. Places where the transcriber's copy of the original text is unreadable have been indicated in this transcription by an empty set of square brackets, [].
Chapter 9
God will defend his church, and bring over even her enemies to the faith. The meek coming of Christ, to bring peace, to deliver the captives by his blood, and to give us all good things.
[1] The burden of the word of the Lord in the land of Hadrach, and of Damascus the rest thereof: for the eye of man, and of all the tribes of Israel is the Lord's.
Onus verbi Domini in terra Hadrach et Damasci requiei ejus, quia Domini est oculus hominis et omnium tribuum Israel.
[2] Emath also in the borders thereof, and Tyre, and Sidon: for they have taken to themselves to be exceeding wise.
Emath quoque in terminis ejus, et Tyrus, et Sidon : assumpserunt quippe sibi sapientiam valde.
[3] And Tyre hath built herself a strong hold, and heaped together silver as earth, and gold as the mire of the streets.
Et aedificavit Tyrus munitionem suam, et coacervavit argentum quasi humum, et aurum ut lutum platearum.
[4] Behold the Lord shall possess her, and shall strike her strength in the sea, and she shall be devoured with fire.
Ecce Dominus possidebit eam : et percutiet in mari fortitudinem ejus, et haec igni devorabitur.
[5] Ascalon shall see, and shall fear, and Gaza, and shall be very sorrowful: and Accaron, because her hope is confounded: and the king shall perish from Gaza, and Ascalon shall not be inhabited.
Videbit Ascalon, et timebit, et Gaza, et dolebit nimis, et Accaron, quoniam confusa est spes ejus : et peribit rex de Gaza, et Ascalon non habitabitur.
[6] And the divider shall sit in Azotus, and I will destroy the pride of the Philistines.
Et sedebit separator in Azoto, et disperdam superbiam Philisthinorum.
[7] And I will take away his blood out of his mouth, and his abominations from between his teeth: and even he shall be left to our God, and he shall be as a governor in Juda, and Accaron as a Jebusite.
Et auferam sanguinem ejus de ore ejus, et abominationes ejus de medio dentium ejus : et relinquetur etiam ipse Deo nostro, et erit quasi dux in Juda, et Accaron quasi Jebusaeus.
[8] And I will encompass my house with them that serve me in war, going and returning, and the oppressor shall no more pass through them: for now I have seen with my eyes.
Et circumdabo domum meam ex his qui militant mihi euntes et revertentes : et non transibit super eos ultra exactor, quia nunc vidi in oculis meis.
[9] Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Sion, shout for joy, O daughter of Jerusalem: BEHOLD THY KING will come to thee, the just and saviour: he is poor, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass.
Exsulta satis, filia Sion; jubila, filia Jerusalem : ecce rex tuus veniet tibi justus, et salvator : ipse pauper, et ascendens super asinam et super pullum filium asinae.
[10] And I will destroy the chariot out of Ephraim, and the horse out of Jerusalem, and the bow for war shall be broken: and he shall speak peace to the Gentiles, and his power shall be from sea to sea, and from the rivers even to the end of the earth.
Et disperdam quadrigam ex Ephraim, et equum de Jerusalem, et dissipabitur arcus belli : et loquetur pacem gentibus, et potestas ejus a mari usque ad mare, et a fluminibus usque ad fines terrae.
[11] Thou also by the blood of thy testament hast sent forth thy prisoners out of the pit, wherein is no water.
Tu quoque in sanguine testamenti tui emisisti vinctos tuos de lacu in quo non est aqua.
[12] Return to the strong hold, ye prisoners of hope, I will render thee double as I declare today.
Convertimini ad munitionem, vincti spei : hodie quoque annuntians duplicia reddam tibi.
[13] Because I have bent Juda for me as a bow, I have filled Ephraim: and I will raise up thy sons, O Sion, above thy sons, O Greece, and I will make thee as the sword of the mighty.
Quoniam extendi mihi Judam quasi arcum : implevi Ephraim : et suscitabo filios tuos, Sion, super filios tuos, Graecia : et ponam te quasi gladium fortium.
[14] And the Lord God shall be seen over them, and his dart shall go forth as lightning: and the Lord God will sound the trumpet, and go in the whirlwind of the south.
Et Dominus Deus super eos videbitur, et exibit ut fulgur jaculum ejus : et Dominus Deus in tuba canet, et vadet in turbine austri.
[15] The Lord of hosts will protect them: and they shall devour, and subdue with the stones of the sling: and drinking they shall be inebriated as it were with wine, and they shall be filled as bowls, and as the horns of the altar.
Dominus exercituum proteget eos : et devorabunt, et subjicient lapidibus fundae : et bibentes inebriabuntur quasi a vino, et replebuntur ut phialae, et quasi cornua altaris.
[16] And the Lord their God will save them in that day, as the flock of his people: for holy stones shall be lifted up over his land.
Et salvabit eos Dominus Deus eorum in die illa, ut gregem populi sui, quia lapides sancti elevabuntur super terram ejus.
[17] For what is the good thing of him, and what is his beautiful thing, but the corn of the elect, and wine springing forth virgins?
Quid enim bonum ejus est, et quid pulchrum ejus, nisi frumentum electorum, et vinum germinans virgines?
Commentary:
Ver. 1. Burden. Preaching of the truth is disagreeable to infidels, and light to the faithful. W. --- Hadrach; Syria, (Ch.) or a city near Damascus, on which it rested. The victories of Alexander and of the Machabees are here described. The former defeated the Arabs near Damascus, (which was betrayed to Parmenio) and having gained the victory at Issus, became master of Celosyria, of which he made Parmenio governor. C. --- Rest. Sept. "his sacrifice, for the Lord looks on men and on all the tribes of Israel." H. --- He wished for the conversion of all, and those who turn to him are not rejected. S. Jer.
Ver. 2. Emath, or Emesa, not far from Damascus. C. --- It shall also fall a prey to Alexander. H. --- Tyre was become again very rich and strong, (C.) and gloried in its wisdom; yet was taken after a long and obstinate resistance (H.) of seven months, when the inhabitants were slain or sold, the city demolished, and the ships sunk. Curt. iv. Usher, A. 3672. --- Sidon made no resistance, as it hated the Persians. Yet Strabo was forced to resign the throne to Abdolonymus, (Arian ii. Just. xi.) which indicates some opposition. C.
Ver. 5. Ascalon was ruined. The other cities opened their gates, as Jerusalem did. Jos. Ant. xi. ult. --- Batis alone resolved to defend Gaza. He was dragged round the city when it was taken, after a siege of two months; the inhabitants were slaughtered or sold, and others brought in their stead. Curt. iv. Diod. Oly. cxii.
Ver. 6. Divider. Heb. mamzer; "bastard," or rather "stranger." It is reported that Alexander was the illegitimate son of Nestabanes, whom Olympius took for Jupiter. Plut. Just. xi. --- But these might be popular reports. The sequel seems to shew that the Jews, &c. occupied the towns of the Philistines under the Machabees. Chal. Grot. C. --- The divider may denote any conqueror. M.
Ver. 7. His blood. It is spoken of the Philistines, and particularly of Azotus, (where the temple of Dagon was) and contains a prophecy of the conversion of that people from their bloody sacrifices and abominations to the worship of the true God. Ch. --- Many pagans devoured the victims raw, and drank the blood of their enemies. These marks of cruelty and superstition shall cease when they adopt the law of Moses. Gen. ix. 4. Lev. vii. 26. and xvii. 11. --- Governor, or city of a thousand: (C.) Heb. alup. Mic. v. 2. H. --- Jebusite. They probably embraced the faith with Areuna. 2 K. xxiv. 16. The city was formerly styled Jebus. The towns of the Philistines shall not be distinguished from the rest, under the dominion of Juda. See 1 Mac. v. 66. and x. 78. C.
Ver. 8. War; the Machabees. Ch. --- They stood up like a wall for the people and the temple. C. --- Heb. "my house, on account of those going," &c. I will protect it better than an army. H. --- After the Machabees, God preserved the temple from profanation till he abandoned it after the death of Christ. C. --- Yet Pompey penetrated into the most holy place, and Crassus plundered the treasury. Both felt the effects of their impiety, and had no farther success. --- Oppressor; tax-gatherer, (H.) sent by foreign tyrants. M. --- Till the Machabees, particularly Hircan, (C.) or Simon, his father, (H.) threw off the yoke, the Jews were always subject (C.) either to the Persians, to Syria, or to Egypt. H. --- Hircan's son, Aristobulus, took the title king, and governed in peace. C.
Ver. 9. King. Christ often came to Jerusalem; but his last entrance, to die for man's redemption, was most excellent. W. --- If the Jews had not wilfully blinded themselves, they could not mistake Him, as he is here so minutely described, possessing the most humble and the noblest qualities. Not knowing how to reconcile them, they feign one Messias glorious and another poor and despised; while others admit only of one, and reject either the abject or the exalted things which the prophets have spoken of him. The Church alone can reconcile these apparent contradictions in our Saviour's character. After predicting what would befall the Jews till about one hundred years before the birth of Christ, the prophet turns to Him who was the desire and comfort of the nation. C. --- Saviour. Heb. Noshah, (H.) or Jesus. S. Jer. --- Poor; or meek, as S. Matthew quotes it, after the Sept. and Chal. M. --- They have read v for i, as hani (H.) means poor. C. --- Prot. "lowly," which may signify devoid of riches, or of pride. --- Ass. Sept. "yoked animal, and upon a young foal." H. --- The former denotes the Jews.
Ver. 10. Chariot. Arms shall be useless. Mic. v. 10. --- Earth. This can be understood only of Christ's kingdom, (C.) though it alludes to the greatest limits of the promised land. H.
Ver. 11. Water; from limbo, (S. Jer. &c. W. S. Tho. iii. p. q. 52. a. 1. C.) and purgatory. See S. Aug. de Gen. xii. 23. & ep. 99. M. --- Christ delivered the ancient patriarchs by virtue of his covenant, just sealed with his blood. Heb. at present reads, "and as for thee, Sion, by the blood of thy covenant I have sent forth thy prisoners," &c. delivering the Hebrews out of Egypt by the paschal lamb. Chal. But this text is suspected, as S. Jerom remarks no variation.
Ver. 12. Hold. Return ye, who stay behind, to Jerusalem. God will make good all that you abandon; or come, Judas has procured liberty for the people. 1 Mac. iv. 36. C. --- Embrace the gospel, and enter the Church. M.
Ver. 13. Juda: the Machabees. S. Jer. --- Filled, or stretched the bow of Ephraim. C. --- The people shall act with vigour and union. H. --- Sons; viz. the apostles, who, in the spiritual way, conquered the Greeks, and subdued them to Christ. Ch. --- The Machabees repressed the insolence of the Seleucides, who were of Greek extraction.
Ver. 14. Seen. God miraculously interposed in favour of the Machabees, and his angels appeared at their head. 1 Mac. ii. 22. and v. 2. and x. 29. and xi. 8. and xv. 15. A handful of men thus routed vast armies, and asserted their independence, avenging religion and the state, which they restored to greater splendour. --- South, whence storms usually arise in that country. Job xxxvii. 9. The angels confounded the enemy. 1 Mac. x. 30.
Ver. 15. Sling. At first the Machabees had no other weapon. 1 Mac. iv. 6. The sling was much used. Judg. xx. 16. --- Wine. They will shed blood of the enemy so abundantly, and be all besmeared with it. They would never drink it, like the pagans. Lev. xvii. 10. C.
Ver. 16. Holy stones; the apostles, who shall be as pillars and monuments in the Church. Ch. --- The Machabees are like a wall. They restore the altar of holocausts, built of fresh stones. 1 Mac. iv. C.
Ver. 17. The corn, &c. His most excellent gift is the blessed Eucharist, called here the corn, that is, the bread of the elect, and the wine springing forth virgins, that is, maketh virgins to bud, or spring forth as it were like flowers among thorns, because it has a wonderful efficacy to give and preserve purity. Ch. --- It enables the weak to despise all things for the sake of virtue, and makes them fruitful and eloquent, as the original implies. C. --- Sept. "a fragrant wine for virgins." H. --- Christ is the grain of wheat, which dying, brings forth much fruit, (Jo. xii.) and "of this wheat that bread is made which came from heaven." Jo. vi. S. Jer. W. --- "How shall not they have joy, who being inebriated with the cup of our Saviour, are made virgins?" This was partly verified in the days of the Machabees, to whom plenty was granted. S. Jer. H. --- Those who partake worthily of the blessed Eucharist, become strong and pure. M. - Prot. "corn shall make the young men cheerful, (marginal note: grow, or speak) and new wine the maids." H.

I honestly don't get the "dead game" people. They'll leave comments that either literally say nothing else or amount to nothing else, while everyone else is having actual discussions around them. At first I thought it was just trolling of a kind, but a lot of them seem really invested in the game being dead. And I don't see ... why?
I mean, for one, it seems obvious that the game has been more active over the last year or so than in years and that there are lots of new players and returning old ones. So it's clearly wrong, but also, if you're that determined to see this era as the herald of the end times, why not just play something that you don't think is dying? What's the objective here?
In fairness, I've never understood the point of trolling, either. But I do find it pretty baffling that you've got these people who desperately want the game to be failing and keep trying to make it everyone else's problem.
