I inherited this country when I was only a child, Nahuseresh. I have held it. I have fought down rebellious barons. I've fought Sounis to keep the land on this side of the mountains. I have killed men and watched them hang. I've seen them tortured to keep this country safe and mine. How did you think I did this if I was a fool with cow eyes for any handsome man with gold in his purse?
― Megan Whalen Turner, The Queen of Attolia
Finally finished this piece! It's good to be back on this website:)

Redraw of an old fan art of The Queen’s Thief series by Megan Whalen Turner. It’s crazy how much my art has changed!
Also, if you have a fondness for conniving little scamps, go check it out!

The fastest I've ever read a book was 3 days and that was a short lil classic back in High School because I was procrastinating writing a paper.
In the last 48 hours I have consumed two novels in their entirety and I think I'm gonna hurl if the third doesn't get returned to the library immediately so I can pick it up
I'm positively FERAL at the moment, nobody look at me or touch me unless you have all the art of the first two Queen's Thief books to fling at me from a safe distance because I'm GOING to bite someone's fingers off about this series

Jagganath is a divinity from Hindu Mythology. He forms a triad with his siblings Balabhadra and Subhadra. Some consider him a representation of Vishnu or Krishna
Eugenides is the god of thieves from Eddisian mythology, fantasy Greek style pantheon mythology of the little peninsula of the book series’ nations (description provided by a submitter)

I would like to very much blame thank tumblr mutuals for this. I have now burned through the first Percy Jackson series (looking at you @fandomjumper247 ) and am devouring the thief series due to @accidental-spice and @kanerallels talking it up. If I get nothing done I’m pointing my boss at you guys.

I need my golden crown of sorrows, my bloody sword to swing,
I need my empty halls to echo with grand self-mythology
I am no mother,
I am no bride ,
I am King.

Also, I convinced my husband to read the first Queen's Thief book by telling him it had lots of neat historical details in it, because I know he's a geek about ancient Greek and Mediterranean stuff. He's been pretty impressed thus far.
But THEN. Then he has the totally oblivious, Apollo's-Kickball-level audacity to go:
"To be fair, prison wasn't frequently used as a punishment at that time. It was just too expensive to feed someone who wasn't giving back to society. So realistically, Gen would probably have gotten a hand lopped off and turned loose to be someone else's useless problem, assuming the infection didn't get him first."
Meanwhile, me having just gotten into Queen of Attolia:

I managed not to say anything, but I legit had to excuse myself to the bathroom to calm down because I choked on my lunch and very nearly shouted "HOW DARE YOU" at him
