Monsters, as the displaced embodiment of tendencies that are repressed or, in Julia Kristeva’s sense of the term, ‘abjected’ within a specific culture not only establish the boundaries of the human, but may also challenge them. Hybrid forms that exceed and disrupt those systems of classification through which cultures organize experience, monsters problematize binary thinking and demand a rethinking of the boundaries and concepts of normality. Gothic texts repeatedly draw attention to the monster’s constructed nature, to the mechanisms of monster production, and reveal precisely how the other is constructed and positioned as both alien and inferior. In turn, this denaturalizes the human, showing the supposedly superior human to be, like the monster’s otherness, simply the product of an ongoing struggle in the discursive construction and reconstruction of power.
David Punter, Glennis Byron, from The Gothic

you know, its not brought up in fics often but ted is extremely well read. he doesnt brag about it, but hes read everything from f scott fitzgerald's b sides to ayn rand's doorstoppers to the sixteen book Ender series, etc etc etc. Ted reads about as much as we see Beard reading (which. in my head is a trait that was passed on, a new focus to sharpen the mind and keep him out of trouble and his mind off drugs, something Ted offered up as a coping mechanism for when his own dad died, a way to have fun and adventure and escape without ending up in jail like Ted himself had a handful of times before, scaring the bejeezus out of his ma.)
this turned into a mini fic and i lost my train of thought but point is, Ted reads So Much and more people need to pick up on this in fics please and thank you.

realized today that my favorite football team and favorite archer have the same favorite color (purple) so have a shitpost about what football position I think each avenger would play:
Clint Barton - kicker
Okay I'll be honest, the whole reason I wrote out this post was for this pairing. Clint's got impeccable aim, he's overlooked and underappreciated but absolutely critical to team success. He's got unshakeable faith in his own skills because he really is that good and he knows it.
Steve Rogers - quarterback
duh
Bucky Barnes - TE
I thought about making him the left guard but I think he'd be the reliable, dependable, everyman kind of tight end. the one that the QB knows will make the play if he needs him to. the kind of guy that doesn't look for glory, he'll block, he'll catch, he'll run the ball. whatever you need.
Tony Stark - WR
He's a diva off the field and a star on the field. He also absolutely does unnecessary and dangerous shit to get a touchdown (like flipping over the top of a guy)
Pietro Maximoff - RB
he fast. but not just straight-line fast, he can also juke you right outta your shoes
Bruce Banner - nose tackle
literally "the big guy" c'mon. he's gonna slam your QB into the dirt
Natasha Romanoff - free safety
she's an absolute ballhawk. 'find Romanoff on every play' written on opposing QB's arm bands
Wanda Maximoff - linebacker
I think she'd be the one to have the mic on defense. can play either up close to try to get to the quarterback or fall into coverage to try to get the interception
