Apparently I brought an extremely fitting book to an exceedingly stupid day of work, because this greeted me immediately upon sitting down on the bus home.
(image description under the cut)
Image 1: the dedication page of Becky Chambers’ A PSALM FOR THE WILD-BUILT, which reads “For anybody who could use a break.” Image 2: the first chapter of A PSALM FOR THE WILD-BUILT, which has some black and white leaves in the upper corner and reads 1: A CHANGE IN VOCATION. Sometimes, a person reaches a point in their life when it becomes absolutely essential to get the fuck out of the city.

2023 SEPTEMBER 02 Saturday
"Sing to the LORD a new song, for He has done wondrous deeds;
His right hand has won victory for Him, His holy arm.
Let the sea and what fills it resound, the world and those who dwell in it;
Let the rivers clap their hands, The mountains shout with them for joy before the LORD."
~ Psalms 98:1,7

okay at this point if you are antizionist you NEED to know that "israel" is also the name of 1. the biblical patriarch jacob 2. the endonym of the jewish people collectively (the replacement of which with "jews" is not unrelated to christian supersessionism btw) 3. the land regardless of what nation state is currently established there; and that "zion" refers to various locations with various mystical and/or messianic connotations relating to the temple, the torah, the divine presence, general hopes for a better world etc. because the jewish religion has used these terms for THOUSANDS of years & your knee-jerk reaction to their use as a result of a 75 year old nation-state is 100%your own problem to deal with

I will also praise you with the harp for your faithfulness, O my God; I will sing praises to you with the lyre, O Holy One of Israel.
My lips will shout for joy, when I sing praises to you; my soul also, which you have redeemed.
And my tongue will talk of your righteous help all the day long, for they have been put to shame and disappointed who sought to do me hurt.

Really amused at how annoyed past me got about this weird medieval punctuation practice but at the same time I still find it deeply relatable

Psalm 40:3 (NLT) - He has given me a new song to sing, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see what He has done and be amazed. They will put their trust in the LORD.

PSALMS S.O.A.P. ~ PSALM 104
Tuesday, 12/12/23
SCRIPTURE:
May the glory of the Lord endure forever;  may the Lord rejoice in His works.   ~ Psalm 104:31
OBSERVATION:
As one of His works, may He rejoice in me...
...and may I not do anything to get in the way of others seeing His enduring glory...
APPLICATION: (Includes parts of verses 33 & 34)
Be mindful of His enduring glory...
Be mindful of rejoicing in His works - in me...
Sing to the Lord - all my life - all the time...
Sing praise to God...
Meditate pleasingly...
Rejoice in the Lord
PRAYER:
Rejoicing Heavenly Father God - forgive any and all of my actions that get in the way of others seeing Your enduring glory... May Your Holy Spirit bring to mind Your grace and remind me to sing to You first and foremost in all situations and circumstances, and guide my meditations towards You and Your grace, blessings, and will for my life... In Jesus's example of surrendering His will for Yours and in His Name and for Your glory and honor and praiseful worship...
Rejoicing for you and yours - in and through Him...

I have sung Psalm 100 ("All People That on Earth Do Dwell") more times than I can possibly count, but tonight, after having sung it at a joint service with several churches in the area, filling the echoey sanctuary with a glorious harmony of voices, this verse took on a new, beautiful significance:
The Lord ye know is God indeed; Without our aid he did us make; We are his folk, he doth us feed, And for his sheep he doth us take.
