#programmers are my people fr

my favourite part about programming is the naming conventions. like, in math and physics and other ~serious~ subjects, naming convention is very serious and specific and usually has something to do with ancient Greek. very studious. very serious. but programmers are just a bunch of basement-dwelling losers who don't go outside enough to care how the world perceives us, we just like computers, so our important concepts get names like this:
Tumblr media
and i just really feel that, idk.

ok so for more info:
my two programmer friends have just read FR and agreed to help with the game- I feel DOWN is necessary for FR to work -it sets up crucial characterization and plot details that the story needs (at the very least to be set up) and with them helping it's going to turn out as I wanted it.
As mentioned before, I had trouble because I was manually coding the first cutscene (which has music!) and it was. a nightmare. but ToMo actually knows how to do charting for music and so we're rebuilding it to be like??? an ACTUALLY good coded thing that isn't a nightmare??? dang fr this is more than anything i could have dreamed of.
meanwhile, i've been talking with multiple people about the writing (sorry if you reached out and i didn't respond, I've been very anxious about getting help. I'll respond properly soon!) and I hit a breakthrough and its going smoothly now ;v; I hope by the time the side-story is finished, I'll be ready to draw out the chapter for real!
NightFell is still my biggest priority but we've (roughly) hit a milestone that means production on my end can slow down a bit until we finish up some details. which is why I've got so much free time on NF lately! I'm very optimistic for big things from these two projects this year hehe
under the read-more is a transcript of the grey-ed text that i felt was too long for the alt text:
in grey text the following is written: oh my god i'm so sorry i have been trying to get this story to work for so long you have no idea no idea i'ts been so horrible trying to make the game and chp 3 work but now i've got help and they're my awesome friends and i'm cryin happy i just wanna make this thing and make it as good as it can be

STEM SISTER SCUFFLE: ROUND 1 MASHUP 2
Reagan Ridley (Inside Job) vs Futaba Sakura (Persona 5)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Reagan Ridley is a Roboticist!
Futaba Sakura is a Computer Scientist and Hacker/Programmer!
Why you should vote for each contestant:
Reagan Ridley:
"She is my blorbo <333 my specialest little girl <3333 she is going to take over the world with the power of daddy issues, superiority complexes and SCIENCE <333"
"Mommy and daddy issues. In her 30s. A REALISTIC woman witn features that a normal (?) freaking human could have. She's so girlboss and girlfailure at the same time. Just a fucking loser. Nice non-romantic relationship with (male) her BFF (business friend/family forever)."
"guhh shes so cool. emotionally neglected autism lady (also implied bisexual). she made a robot replica of a guy on a dating app to practice date him so she didnt fuck it up. also she works for the deep state. "Who's the weirdo now? Not the girl who invented robot arms to hug strangers! Oh my god I sound insane""
"I don’t think she’s in a specific field other than conspiracy theories. Maybe robotics. She built a robot boyfriend and robot president both of which developed sentient AI, and she built herself a set of robot arms. But she also created a giant sentient frog, like a real frog not a robot, when she was in fifth grade. Autism swag. She goes to the moon and hears that there are moon nazis and goes “have you tried shooting them? It works for earth nazis”"
"she skrunkly, never sleep, tragic backstory babygirl"
"neurodivergent girlboss"
"She is girlboss and she’s cringefail. She made an AI robot president. She made a robot replica of her date. She was uhhh “tweaked” in the womb to be more like her dad (who is also a scientist.) She would prefer to engineer literally anything over dealing with her problems directly. She is everything. Justice for inside job getting cancelled"
"She is absolutely insane, and also relatable. She is severely undervalued in her corporate deep state work environment, deals with the worst situations imaginable on a regular basis, and also cares deeply for the people around her. She is easily the smartest person in any given room and yet she is still very insecure."
"its because shes just like me fr. one small caveat is that i think she's straight in canon. oh well cant have everything"
Futaba Sakura:
"shes a 15yo autist who can take down the in-universe equivalent of anonymous in an afternoon. she has mommy issues"
"she is a silly goofy girl who can also pull insane feats of programming. she can hack into anything. she set up her own giant computer rig. she can remotely tap into people's phones."
"She is so blorbo! She’s very smart and funny, could use her powers for evil (and occasionally causes mischief) but uses them for good, cool character arc, just a silly little guy :)"
"she's silly i like her tetris shirt and she speaks in dorky references"
"technology (shes a hacker??) with a side of science (she has an interest in her mothers work in the field of cognitive "psience" as its referred to in-game!!) uhhh cant really explain stuff well but shes really epic and truly the hackergirl ever. shes cool enough that i partially based a character i recently made off of her tbh"
"Futaba is a traumatized shut-in that hates getting out of her room and interacting with people. She first contacts the heroes by hacking their group chat, asking for them to consider changing the heart of ""Futaba Sakura"".
Once they do, Futaba manages to confront her feelings and trauma and heal. She makes peace with the survivor's guilt she feels after the unfair death of her mother, who was a researcher/programmer before her.
Futaba does a lot of hacking for the sake of her friends, the Phantom Thieves. This also reflects in her Persona Necronomicon. She's the navigator/mission control of the group, not having combat abilities but being able to scan enemies to show their weaknesses.
Futaba's hacking also helps save the protagonist's life at one point. Like that's literally a huge plot point in the True Ending of Persona 5 and 5R. She's amazing."
"She is very good with computers and she helped the Phantom thieves with her hacking abilities"

What headcanons do you have for the HUMAN side cast of RCP, their family trees, and more?
@canyonkingdom you might appreciate this post...or not. Idk.
(This is a hyperfixation moment fr fr)
I've hyperfixated too much on Mr. Wheeler's own family tree while building the WTPB AU (ALL the way before it was called WTPB...and at its first roots of shame) and so here's my family tree+info+spoilers for my AU? (and is that some certain people commenting?! Helly, I told you to shut the wall off! /j)
(The thing is, this devolved into some expanded lore shit. Forgive me for the wall of formatted words and colors.)
Unknown great grandfather marries unknown great grandmother, thus Rick Wheeler is born. He grew up with the smell of wheels and people and vehicles alike buying from him. He got no bigotry for some reason since his parents have to keep up a good facade (they're the bigots) and they're always busy, although he got his dad's negative traits.
Later on, he married a woman named Reese Cougart, and both have an only child named Gerald Wheeler. And since Gerald grew up in the late 70's and then towards the 80's...yeah take a guess.
After Reese died in '80 and The Incident of '84 happened, Gerald mysteriously broke contact and connections with one of his last friend from their highschool friend group (that he also helped with, as a programmer, making the set of code and blueprints that is now called "The Robocar Code"), Steve Harrison. Rick was never told by his own son why he did so, and when he did found out at '93, he got mad and also broke contact with his son (not that he doesn't deserve it, anyways...he got what was coming after him, and even if I pity his falling out, he still went on as if it never happened, never affected...never the one at fault of his emotional failure)
Rick also moved to Broomstown (it's spelled that way 'round here), out of pure spite and pettiness (it runs in the family. The girls don't get it, though), and there he stayed until now. Broomstown is also Steve's hometown, and Rick's father used to live there as well.
Meanwhile, Steve somehow found Gerald's contact and encouraged him to go into his place. There, he met Steve's sister, Marcy, and both took about two years before they married, due to fixing interpersonal issues. (Dude, where's the reason why they hooked up? No idea.) That doesn't mean Gerald changed his other ways.
One day, somewhen in 2001, Gerald was rushing his now wife into the hospital due to her about to give birth to who we now (vaguely in canon) knew as Betty. However, due to his frantic driving skills and arguing with his vehicle the wrong way, they got into an accident. Fortunately, someone saw them and called for help at the hospital, which happened to be right near the accident spot...and where Amber worked in (oh my, we're really connected). Upon seeing Amber's presence, Gerald was, well, shocked, and the cries of Betty are drowned by him shouting at his ex-friend Steve due to him giving away the blueprints and script to make a Robocar, and Rick somehow indirectly heard of this so that night was intense hell.
Fast forward one year later, Gerald and his family moved into Japan due to his job application being accepted. It was hard to adapt at first, but it went smoothly after. Here, Betty was supposed to be not taught about her grandfather, just her mom's parents, but she still did knew of Rick Wheeler. So by childlike pleas, Gerald gave in and lets her send letters to Rick since he is still not used to the trending phones (I'm happy Mr. Wheeler isn't so cranky for his granddaughter!). At the same time of this moment, Steve and his wife, Casey, divorced on good terms and for the sake of good, due to Casey discovering Steve's closetness and Steve having responsibilities and pressure about what happened in the past. Casey still kept the Harrison surname, though, so Jin grew up to become a Harrison, contacting her biological dad through messages and birthday gifts.
A highschooler keeping in touch even after a tragic event. A kid keeping in touch, oblivious of what transpired in the past, to say.
Jin and her mom moved into Broomstown on September 17, 2004, and Rick is willing to nag his pal, Ollie Buster (aka Mr. Builder), to help the two girls settle in this town.
And then, many years passed...after Jin dropped out of college...after the Rescue team of Broomstown are formed...after that incident...
"Jin, I have some shocking news."
"Huh? What is it, Mr. Wheeler?"
"You know my son, right?"
"Oh, Gerald? Last time I've heard of him, my bio dad is trying to mess with his date, who happened to be bio dad's sister. R-a late relative... told me about it when I was ten. I was still impressed that even if he wanted to break contact with my bio dad, Mr. Gerald still ends up being connected to him."
"Well, the thing is...he has a newborn son!"
"That's great, I guess."
"And he's...gonna move into this town because his wife insists so and he quit his job because he lost the drive to continue it."
"Oh my..."
~~~
"Oh no."
"Huh?"
"I'm just gonna pluck that little blackthorn..."
His Lighthouse: Tuning In  (LedgerJoker x f!reader)
Tuning In - Oneshot
Tumblr media Tumblr media
KEEP IN MIND THIS IS NOT A STORY UPDATE!
Author’s note:
I’m still in recovery mode but my mind is so bored and filled with ideas! I managed to use my voice to text software to make a little oneshot to hold me over until I can type on my laptop again. If you want to timeline this oneshot in line with the series, I’d say it takes place between Breakfast for Two and Three Steps Back. Roughly? I dunno. It’s a scrap idea I wouldn’t be able to squeeze into the series as it stands right now.
As always, enjoy! I’m actually going to rest my hand now.
Taglist!
A joyful tune escaped your lips.
It didn't have words much less a title, just a string of musical notes you hummed on the fly as you styled your hair.
It was any other day at your penthouse. The sun was beaming into your living room on all of your streaming equipment that was on your desk, ready to go. You had scheduled a virtual meet and greet for your fans that couldn't travel to Gotham to see you.
Cindy thought the idea was marvelous and wanted to make the event bigger than it already was but you toned her down the best you could. You wanted this to be intimate and fun, despite the expected turnout.
You posted the date and time months ago and the original message had already been liked over half a million times on different social media platforms.
In no way were you scared of your fans but that many people on a video? You had some pre-stream jitters.
Thankfully Cindy assigned IT and some background software programmers to make sure the event ran smoothly. But after that, it was all up to you.
She gave you free creative reign. Two hours of content completely up to you to plan and execute.
Saying you were excited was an understatement.
You made a flow chart to keep everything cohesive but added in Q & A slots in between segments for fans. Moderators would be standing by to keep the chat under control and to give you some breathing room so you didn't have to multitask. You planned this out thoroughly after all.
And rightfully so! You had a lot you wanted to cover.
Limited edition box sets were dropping next week and you purchased a main booth at the upcoming GothCon and you wanted everyone to know about it.
Signatures, private photo opportunities, timed book discussions, and new merch for sale at both the event and your online merch shop were available. You name it; it was happening.
You couldn't end the stream without giving a shout out to all of the recent art your fans had created since your last blog post and near the end of everything, you wanted to tease everyone about your new work in progress.
You couldn't help it! So what if you were a little troll? Your community loved that about you.
All of this and more, you hoped to talk about during the stream — if only you could get your hair looking right! You were so busy taking care of Joker these days your daily hair routine had fallen to the wayside.
It was still healthy and gorgeous just.. not right now. Trying to plait multiple braids to the scalp and letting the bottom portion be free and curly while pressed for time was nerve wracking and seemingly impossible.
It also didn't help that Joker was watching your every move.
Apparently he was in a good mood today. He acted more and more like your fake adopted cat by the day.
He wandered outside of his room after breakfast and decided to silently annoy you by parking himself smack dab in front of your desk.
His mind was originally focused on the tv but over time his eyes gravitated to you or rather to your hands that moved like magic through your h/c locks.
You were still working on the first braid and parted your hair with a fine tooth comb - how you did that so neatly without a mirror was mind boggling, and you positioned your hands to move hypnotically to form a braid.
He was also in awe with how fast you moved.
You braided about halfway back to the crown of your head before stopping. From there you let your natural texture be free and wild, spraying it with a curl defining product and incorporated it in thoroughly with a comb to set.
He fought back the urge to walk over and bury his hands into your fine silk. It looked softer than cashmere and it smelled intoxicating from far away. Were you trying to seduce him again?
You were doing a great job if so.
You started sectioning out the second braid but an incoming text on your phone stopped your progress.
It must've been IT in the way you wiped your hands free of any oily residue and fiddled with your computer setup with a huff.
Joker remembered you saying the stream began at the top of the hour. He glanced at the clock and began to worry if you would make it on time.
You were already dressed in a crochet top, a pale cornflower blue that hung off your shoulders, with a choker that proudly sported Will's family crest hanging from a leather band. Once again, fan made art pieces. You looked stunning as always but he knew if your hair wasn't perfect, you would cancel the entire thing.
And since he was secretly a big fan of yours, that was totally unacceptable.
He knew it wasn't his place. You two weren't close by any means, but that didn't stop Joker from standing up and limping towards your desk.
You noticed his presence a little too late.
Before you could open your mouth to ask what he was doing, Joker had already picked up your comb and began sectioning your hair right where you left off.
You turned into a statue.
His presence behind you was ominous yet you felt the gentle way he smoothed your hair back and clipped it out of the way with a hair claw. He used your previous braid as a model and carefully crafted the same halo pattern you began on your scalp in earnest.
Then the unthinkable happened. Joker started to do your hair.
You felt the moment his hands gripped the three strands and wove them up and over, back and forth to follow the pattern you created.
You had so many questions. Where did he learn to braid hair? Who did he practice on? How was he this good?
He applied just the right amount of pressure, not too loose but definitely not heavy handed, to make neat braids within his section. You felt the confidence in his grip, this wasn't his first rodeo.
And just like you did before, he stopped halfway and brushed out your ends, spraying it with your curl pattern styling agent and left it alone to develop into the effortless curls he liked (loved) so much.
IT messaged you again about performing a quick last minute bandwidth test and you gave them the okay while keeping your head straight. Joker paid you no mind and was working on the middle section when you couldn't take it anymore.
"Um.. how did you know how to do this?" You gestured at your head.
Joker's hand froze for a millisecond but continued braiding unfazed. "Would ya believe me if I said prison?"
Your snort told him no.
He smirked to himself but indulged in your curiosity. "But it wasss. One of my prison mates had nice long hair just.. like.. you. Although he's uhh, not alive, to brag about my work, he received all types of comp-li-ments before his.. untimely demise."
He felt you tense up. "You have nothing to worry about my dear Y/n!"
Joker brushed out a new part and caught a snag in the comb making you yelp. Your head followed the tug making it bump into Joker's abdomen. You could feel his muscles through his cotton shirt "Sorry!"
"Hm. That's my line." You tried turning around to apologize further when Joker forcefully jerked your head back straight. "Stay still."
Now that scared you. It would be so easy for him to snap your neck. Is that how he offed his prison mate with the good hair?
You gulped and bobbed your head but instantly regretted that action.
Joker's hands slid from your hair down to your neck where he massaged it gently. He bent down to whisper in your ear. "Now bunny... whaT. Did I just say?"
You felt horrible for being turned on. His hands felt so good around your neck and it took all of your strength not to moan out loud.
"Y/n."
He snapped you out of your thoughts. Your mouth flopped like a fish as you tried to form words that weren't about Joker choking you during that activity.
"You ah.. said to stay s-still." You stared straight ahead at the countdown timer set for your stream.
Thirty-six minutes left. Joker had well over half left to braid. Would you make it through this torture?
"Then be a good girl and.. stay still." He purred in your ear. He stood up straight and went back to work, adding in the golden beads you had scattered on the desk to a few braids that he finished.
Ohhhhh he knew he was cruel and like the obedient girl you were, you listened to him. If you had a tail it would be wagging.
When did you stoop so low?
With five minutes to spare Joker finished your hair for you and you dashed over to the floor length mirror leaning on the living room wall.
You turned your head left and right, admiring Joker's handiwork up close. It was incredibly neat and it matched the first halo braid you did perfectly. You couldn't believe that he did the rest.
You were about to turn and thank him but Joker was already behind you in the mirror.
At times you forgot how tall he was compared to your height. If you moved back any further you would bump into Joker's chest. Not like you minded but!
Once was an accident, twice and he might get curious.
You wanted so badly to rest your weight on Joker or feel his hands in your hair again, scratch that. You wanted to have his hands around your throat again. There was so much power you gave up in that brief moment that had you reeling. You wanted to surrender it again.
"Y/n. I asked if you like it?" His voice startled you again out of the naughty thots.
"Y-Yeah Joker, I do."
His green eyes flickered down to your colored ones, eyeing you warily.
Your reply came out way too breathless, almost like it pained you to answer v He hoped this video stream wasn't making you nervous. He'd stick around (out of sight of the cameras of course) and keep an eye on you.
It's not like he wanted to hear any book announcements or anything. He quickly acclimated to the fact that he was staying with one of his favorite authors but it was still an exciting reminder. You were right there! He could bombard you with questions or annoy you until you fled the room.
Right now, he just wanted to admire your beauty up close.
Joker singled out a strand of your hair that didn't want to curl and wove it around his finger to help it. He lifted the lock up to his nose and sniffed.
Divine.
Your eyes widened witnessing his soft gesture until his eyes met yours in the mirror. They grew heavy almost instantly with an emotion you feared to say aloud.
"Alrightyy your hair is done. Off you go."
And just like that Joker was back to being a jerk, roughly pushing you over towards your desk chair.
You were forced down into it and Joker's hands came to rest on the armrests beside you.
"Now... have fun doing your video blog.. thingy. I'll be here watching." He spun you around to face your laptop and towards the countdown timer that had less than a minute left.
Joker took up his original seat within your line of sight and licked his lips slowly. His smug look did nothing to help calm your arousal as the timer ticked down from thirty seconds.
You had half that time to wipe your mind clean and plaster a big smile on your face as your dear readers joined the stream and flooded the comment section with love and support.
You couldn't think about Joker as the participant counter jumped past three hundred thousand and rising. Did you even have that many active readers? Cindy must've ran a promo behind your back.
It didn't matter, this was your time to shine. "Welcome! Welcome everyone! I'm so excited you all joined!"
i am. so jealous ur major got to do research in ba thesis. ours was limited to lit review only 😔
It's so unfair fr??! I've been talking to other ppl from other majors/"sister programmes" of my bachelor's too, and I think it's the case for almost everyone there except the people in my major/programme :((
Lit reviews are kind of boring to me honestly ahsjfjgj, I will forcibly put primary sources even in stuff like course essays (XD). I think it's really valuable to practice using them, so it's extra annoying that they didn't even offer the option to motivated students in your major!!
NCIS Reaction: Seadog
Wench (@scripted-downfall) reacts [with (maybe) occasional asides by Jezebel (@typicalopposite)]
Love this song [Same :)]
Rude.  They turned it off [So very! ☹️]
Rude apathetic person suddenly got way less apathetic
Dude, no shit, they probably fell off the boat when they got shot
Actually watching the intro this time… Heya, Tony.  Abby continues to be adorable.  (Yes, I know we've seen that scene but shhh)  [I always liked it]
Weatherly looks so different without the glasses
YES.  AVOID THE SEMINARS
Being rude to Tony againnnn :(
He's so happyyyyyyy
Buddy, just call shotgun earlier.  It's called being quick on the... draw.  HAH.  Hah.  Get it?  Do… Jezebel, do you get it?  [*silence*]
Dude, Tony was doing something alskdjf  Leave him be
Oh, we've got the obligatory scold-the-local-law-enforcement-officer scene. (To be clear... I get the point but also.  So strategically unwise.  They kinda need the locals’ assistance, and that’s a quick way to get booted off the case, I’m about 99% sure.)
laksjdf Not Tony flirting with the reporter to get her number
[Ducky you savage] !!!
All the under-his-breath asides about that cop alkdsjf
I love Ducky's hat
And we've got cash
If they do not stop being jerks to Tony-
Mary Celeste?  Ghost Ship-vibes
That wasn't the point, Kate, don't be obtuse.  [☠️☠️☠️]
I appreciate characters who compulsively fiddle --- so much like me, fr --- so Tony's flipping the pen is great
Poor Ducky
alskdfjalkdsjf Duckyyyyyy [I love himmmmm]
Oh no not the anti-drug programme.  I swear, people running anti-drug-programmes in these shows always get mixed up in actual drugs, and are usually innocent
"You five-0, ain't you?"  Wrong show, actually :)
Man legit just climbed the fence
Leave.  Tony.  Alone.  Plz.
"Untied States" alksdjfalksdfj  Whoops
Gibbs, I recognize that you think you're hot shit, but you don't have to be an ass to everyone [😂😂😂😂]
ABBY SIGNS!!! YOU'RE AWESOME, MY DEAR!  [YESSSS]
Her hair's more lab-accurate this time
Poor Tony :(
I love the name Jethro, it must be said
Reporter chick's not wrong
Poor Tonyyyyyy
HE'S LEARNING SIGNNNNN (...ish)
– – –
Be proud of me: I actually remembered the midpoint reaction!  Woot woot!
I continue to enjoy the show…  Not a fixation-worthy enjoyment yet, but I like it.  Abby and Tony are still head-and-shoulders above the rest; then Ducky.  Kate kinda annoys me, and, tbh, so does Gibbs.  Writing has been decent --- yards better than CSI, which I regret knowing --- and acting's been decent (as far as I noticed)... Plotlines haven't been bad.  Again, there's some iffy writing in terms of the actual cases --- I'm looking at you, parachute-death-last-episode --- but I haven't noticed any quite yet this episode.
Tony continues to be picked on more than is deserved.  (You know, I might be fine with this if it were more evenly shared, but --- like with Alec in Dark Angel --- it's mainly just reserved for Tony.  Maybe even more so, since there was at least Sketchy to share the picking-on in DA, but there's no one else here.  [Once McGee is on it’s kind of a someone picks on Tony Tony picks on McGee situation]  See, now that’s not bad!  At least it's-  I legit almost wrote consensual, but I *meant* mutual.  Although, technically, ig, it’s both.  [And it’s hilarious because once Ziva comes on McGee tries to do the same to her but she’s just like no]  Oh nooooo.  Guess I’ll see that when it happens.  Love triangle, perhaps?  I kid, I kid.  Unless…?
Also, Kate and Gibbs both come across as very... I'll say self-confident, but that's putting it nicely.  More like arrogant.  They've got the same "I know what I'm doing" mentality that annoys the crap out of me in Max (DA), Sam (SPN), et al.  And Gibbs has that whole I-don't-have-to-explain-myself-ever-because-I'm-hot-shit enigmatic thing working, and that always pisses me off too; like, just fricking talk, okay???? You've got a team; just freaking use it!
Aight… grabbing water and then continuing.  (See, look, I don’t just drink coffee!)
– – –
Ya girl’s being healthy and fetched an actual dinner too, which is truly shocking… but now I’m ready, so!  Onward we go!
Rolly tray
Y'all didn't have to do the reverse-Miranda-rights like that but, also, kudos to Tony for the sarcasm in the process
Once again; talk to your fricking teammmm
Tony, Tony, Tony... Your sarcasm is gonna get you in trouble soon
^x2
GIBBS IS SITTING ON THE AUTOPSY TABLE AGAIN.  (That cannot be sterile)
I can't tell if those two are helping each other or tearing their business down; it might well be both
Puppy!!!
Okay, I swear, now they're comparing Alec-character to dogs again; whyyyy
They made the same joke in Dark Angel.  Twice [☠️😂]
[☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️  The whine.  THE WHINE ☠️☠️☠️ Poor dog]
[Pew pew pew]
STOP WITH THE DOG COMPARISON, HOLY HELL  [He (Tony) looked up]  I’m sorry, but what does it say about how you treat your coworkers/subordinates that they’ll answer to dog whistles.  This is worse than DW!Mickey and K-9  :(
Poor Tony lkajsdf
Poor Tony (again) not getting to interview the girls :(  aksjdflkasjdf :)
Not the “low on testosterone or gay” plz
TONY GETS TO INTERVIEW THE GIRLS
Oh, the feeb’s being an asshole too
WHY IS THIS THE SECOND OF THREE EPISODES CONCERNED WITH TERRORISM!  WHAT IS THIS, 24?!?!  [A lot are I think.. it’s a military show ☠️]  Yeah, well, it’s not a counter-terrorism show!!!
That was President Logan!!!  His actor always plays sketchy people, but I love him anyway, ngl
“Chutzpah” is such a good word
IS THAT BELLE?!!?  OH MY GOD, IS THAT BELLE?!?!?  IT IS!!!  OH MY FRIGGING GOD, EMILIE MY BELOVED!!!
[I love the accent]  ikr.  My sister hates Australian accents, but idk why
idk if that guy was hugging or injured, ngl
Tony's flirting actually worked!  I had no doubt; serves them right for giving him shit about it!
Ngl, this whole conversation is just Tony’s version of Alec-vs-Max: “I’m thinking.”  “You’re talking.”  “I can do both!”  “I doubt that.”
Go on, Tony, show 'em up for their doubts
Abbyyyyyy
Kate's annoying  [Fun fact she’s blonde. She had to dye her hair EVERY DAY]  Dedication from the actress changes nothing about my (current) dislike for the character alskdjf
"You're holding out on us!  That is not nice!"  Abby, my beloved
(scandalized): TONY
(scandalized): ABBY
Match made in... well, maybe not Heaven, but-
Y’all, can we stop the annoying teasing-about-relationships-and-flirting stuff?  This is going on too long to be not-serious, and it’s annoying.
I. I think we might have found a show that has more terrorist activity than 24.  And that’s centered around the Counter-Terrorism Unit.  What the bloody hell.  [😂😂😂😂]
Kate’s still being annoying
"He could just be doing his job"  Yeah, the gun really sells that.  Definitely just your ordinary power guy.
"Phone's got detonators"  I'm shocked.  It's almost like the plan was to detonate stuff.
The lights are on!!!  Hell yeah!!!
Okay, but that background noise *cannot* be good for that recording
Y'all are a bit.  Close.  Wanna... take a step back there?
Whoa, first names.  Is that allowed???
Isn't this the second time he's been picked up by this chick?
Thus is it finished!
– – –
Aside from the probably-excessive number of terrorist attacks — literally, I’ve seen three episodes, and this is the second one with a terrorist connection — I’m still enjoying it!  Tbh, my opinion hasn’t much changed from the midpoint, so I don’t know what to add… I would say that the episode kinda… spiraled?  Like, we were still on drug-running as of after halfway through the episode, and it suddenly became a 24 episode?  Then somehow got resolved really quickly?  But, pacing issues aside, it wasn’t bad!  And that’s basically the only opinion shift from halfway through, so.  There ya go!
‘Til next time!
FR I HATE IT WHEN PEOPLE CALL MONSTER COLLECTING GAMES A "POKEMON RIP-OFF"
like it's a whole genre at this point. they've invented and reinvented things to make them stand out more. not every entry in a genre is a ripoff of what came first
YEAH IT MAKES ME SO MAD, IT CANNOT BE A RIPOFF IF THEY DON'T RIP ASSETS OR NAMES OR STUFF OFF THE ACTUAL POKEMON GAMES, HENCE WHY IT'D BE CALLED A RIPOFF
Even then with games like Temtem, they're clearly showing their inspiration which is perfectly fine. Temtem plays so differently from Pokemon so I don't see the problem at all. I'm pretty sure Pokemon wasn't even the first monster collecting RPG (wasn't it Shin Megami Tensei?) so to call any other monster collecting rpg a ripoff of it is just so...
AND WHEN A GAME HAS MON IN THE TITLE AND PEOPLE USE THAT AS EVIDENCE IT'S RIPPING OFF POKEMON. WHAT DO YOU THINK THE MON STANDS FOR????? I WANT TO SCREAM WHEN I SEE TAKES LIKE THIS
AND WITH HOW MOST OF THESE PEOPLE COMPLAIN ABOUT THE QUALITY OF POKEMON GAMES DROPPING...LIKE CMON. THERE'S A WHOLE GENRE OUT THERE. And honestly? If more people didn't buy pokemon games just out of nostalgia or such, because they grew up with it and that even though they don't like the quality of the game, and ACTUALLY played other monster collecting rpgs, then maybe the games would get better quality. The quality isn't exactly gamefreak's fault (though they REALLY need to increase the amount of programmers there oml), that's more of The Pokemon Company forcing yearly releases to profit on merchandise. What Pokemon needs is a competitor, something that poses a big, longtime threat to it. They wouldn't want to lose buyers to this rival game series, they'd be forced to not rush game development and make quality games. Capitalism does something good for once! Like Yokai Watch was so popular in Japan it was unreal, if it had the same popularity in the west it could've been that big threat to Pokemon.
I can't remember where I was going with this post brain please work with me here
But like yeah. Kinda derailing here but there's so many things wrong with the core mechanics of Pokemon it's obscene how it has continued for so long. Like the whole text thing during battle. Why have the text scroll first then have the thing happen, or vice versa. It just eats up on time, I'm sure the 20 minute timer for online competitive wouldn't be as bad as people feel it is if they fixed this thing up. And actually I think this is too vague so like you know when there's a sandstorm or something and your pokemon get damaged by it? And you know how the animation and damage will do its thing then the text does its thing after instead of at the same time? Yeah that's what I'm talking about. That stuff gets SO long during doubles it's evil. Monster Hunter Stories deals with this in so many ways it's really not that hard
Yknow what, I'm gonna go even further. Pokemon's core gameplay loop is utter ass. I think the only time they got close to doing it right in the mainline games was XY/ORAS due to how the exp share worked there. I can't remember gen 7 that well but the exp boost in usum was awetsome too. By having exp share for the whole team (and toggleable for those who dislike that! Gotta love customisation of gameplay!) it SIGNIFICANTLY reduced the grind needed to progress. And that's not me being impatient with a bad attention span or anything (though the reason as to why pokemon combat can get so boring after a while is a whole other can of worms. Also to prove my attention span isn't bad I played Sonic Unleashed for like 8 hours straight and almost completed it in one day. I'm normal) it's just that sitting there and grinding is just really a slog in general and pulls you out the gameplay loop. This is because the games do absolutely NOTHING to "hide" the grinding. You see, essentially all rpgs (you know. The thing pokemon is) have sidequests, which pokemon doesn't have. Unless you count PLA but that's a spinoff/side game so I'm not really counting it. This is mainline only complaints. Sidequests get you to leave the main story and do other stuff, defeating enemies along the way and gaining exp, as well as getting items that will help for the journey. Usually they'll have these in abundance so you can pick and choose which ones you want to tackle without running out of ones to do (unless you really wanna do all of them). This is grinding. It's just hidden through an external task, like getting a special item for someone in an area, or helping someone take down enemy camps, and so forth. It's not just sitting down and doing menial battles until the mon levels up and then you switch them (bc of lack of exp share in older games). That way, if the player needs to grind for whatever reason, it feels a lot shorter. Personally I think Monster Hunter Stories does this the best, as not only do you have sidequests but you are also encouraged to not barrel through the main story as you want to get weapons and armour for your rider, which means you have to fight monsters and thus gain exp. There's also gene grinding but let's not get into All That today. The exp foods you can craft with items you find while exploring is really good too, it helps level up low leveled new monsties fast (expeditions help with this too!) and in mhs2 having an exp percentage increase (up to 500%) for lower level monsties is a godsend. And then Pokemon makes grinding worse by having high level pokemon gain less exp from pokemon a lower level to them instead of the exp gained being a set amount. It sucks when you wanna fight a gym but the wild level is at such a distance you can't gain exp that well. Cmon man you can do better
Ok I think I've talked about everything I want to here
Anyways if anyone wants monster catching rpgs recommended to them/wants to recommend monster catching rpgs to me I'm down
It was, in fact, the best move of the available choices and it demonstrated that this BG program is a true neural net (artificial intelligence) based application. In one game, NJ hit twice in it's inner board leaving two exposed blots - a play most novices would consider foolish.
Top backgammon hd professional#
Snowie professional is a $350 program and Backgammon NJ plays just below it. At expert it is probably around a 1950 Snowie rating. I am certainly an expert and arguably just under World Class. My highest Snowie rating was 1982, currently my rating is 1946 (it fluctuates up and down within 30 or so points). I came in 2nd in consolation in the 1979 World championships in Monte Carlo. I identify myself since some claim the positive reviews are from employees or shills of this company. I do not work for this company and I do not know the programmer. I am a physician, real name David Winn, and have been playing backgammon since 1975. "The people who rate this app 1 star are very weak BG players. Richard Munitz, Giant of Backgammon, #21 world ranking in 2009 Stop complaining about the dice and learn and improve and like magic, you'll start getting "lucky" too." So the app can be beat in the long run - if you play very well. As an evaluation I played 20 7- point matches on Expert totaling over 100 games. This app is the strongest iPhone bg app I've played with by far. As a World Class level player I expect to win the majority of matches against this app but this is yet another example of the extreme volatility of dice that people don't seem to understand.įirst review: I am a Giant of Backgammon and know strong bg play when I see it. Since updating to v1.4 I have played 44 7-point matches at the strongest level and have won 30 of them. This app is not quite at that level but is still very strong. Anyone who really has a clue knows that the worlds strongest players are computer programs and learn from them. People have made these claims about every Neural Net based backgammon program created for the past 15 years. Second review: I just can't help but shake my head at all of the reviews that claim cheating. So would 99.9% of the other backgammon players in the world. Analyzing these matches with eXtreme Gammon confirms a world class level of play with normal luck factors. A cheating program would not be tricked by my strong play if it knew the dice that were coming and used that info to its advantage. As one of the world's top players, I am able to beat this program over the long run on Expert more often than I lose. "Third review: My evidence that it is not cheating is simple. Phil Simborg, Professional Backgammon Teacher and Player, I recommend it highly to my students and friends."
The Joy of science
 Today we review an episode on a podcast named bridging the gaps; a portal for curious minds. Which is anchored by Dr Waseem Akhtar and guest in the person of Professor Jim Al-Khalili.
I chose this topic because science has been viewed by many in a rudimentary manner for so long and it also answers many questions about rationality, information and disinformation and absolute truths.
Professor Jim Al-Khalili OBE FRS is a theoretical physicist at the University of Surrey where he holds a Distinguished Chair in physics as well as a university chair in the public engagement in science. He received his PhD in theoretical nuclear physics from Surrey in 1989 and then spent two years as an SERC Postdoctoral Research Fellow at University College London before returning to Surrey in 1991. He was appointed lecturer in 1992 and, in 1994, was awarded an EPSRC Advanced Research Fellowship for five years during which time he established himself as a world leading authority. Professor Jim is also a prominent author and broadcaster. He has written 14 books on popular science and the history of science, between them translated into twenty-six languages. He is a regular presenter of TV science documentaries, such as the Bafta nominated Chemistry: a volatile history, and he hosts the long-running weekly BBC Radio 4 programme, The Life Scientific.
Professor Jim starts by saying that science should be viewed as a process of acquiring knowledge and not just the knowledge itself. Science can be carried out via different ways, such as trying to understand how a virus spreads, observation of nesting birds from the edge of a cliff, climbing into a volcano to study it. Science is so broad that it can be hard to define it, only what all those different aspects has to do with science.
The question relativity of truth and absolute truth was asked, and he explained that in the area of physics, there are absolute truths. He gave an example with a ball dropped from 5 meters will hit the earth in exactly 1 second, with such examples you can’t have opinions about the outcome because its an absolute truth. When it comes to truths about the human nature it can get quite messy because it gets mixed up with our beliefs, ideology, culture and moral truths. He continued with saying if the impression of science in teaching is given as cold hard facts, that are all perfectly packaged and understood, it will not spur up curiosity in the minds of the next generation to push them into research. Its best to push the idea that science is about being curious about things we don’t understand.
The question of rationality was asked and he tackled it by responding that we all cannot be rational else the world will be a cold boring place. What is wonderful about our species is that we can be irrational but science stops us from purely being bias and wanting our own theories to be correct. He explained the impact of information and disinformation as being huge because today we have so many sources of information hitting us very fast and with the most logical thinker will have a hard time discerning what is information, disinformation and deliberate disinformation.
Professor Kim said his joy of science comes from doing research work and the fundamental questions about our universe.
14th February >> Fr. Martin’s Gospel Reflections / Homilies on Mark 1:40-45 for the Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time, cycle B: ‘Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him’.
Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time, Cycle B
Gospel (Except USA)
Mark 1:40-45
The leprosy left the man at once, and he was cured
A leper came to Jesus and pleaded on his knees: ‘If you want to’ he said ‘you can cure me.’ Feeling sorry for him, Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him. ‘Of course I want to!’ he said. ‘Be cured!’ And the leprosy left him at once and he was cured. Jesus immediately sent him away and sternly ordered him, ‘Mind you say nothing to anyone, but go and show yourself to the priest, and make the offering for your healing prescribed by Moses as evidence of your recovery.’ The man went away, but then started talking about it freely and telling the story everywhere, so that Jesus could no longer go openly into any town, but had to stay outside in places where nobody lived. Even so, people from all around would come to him.
Gospel (USA)
Mark 1:40–45
The leprosy left him, and he was made clean.
A leper came to Jesus and kneeling down begged him and said, “If you wish, you can make me clean.” Moved with pity, he stretched out his hand, touched him, and said to him, “I do will it. Be made clean.” The leprosy left him immediately, and he was made clean. Then, warning him sternly, he dismissed him at once.    He said to him, “See that you tell no one anything, but go, show yourself to the priest and offer for your cleansing what Moses prescribed; that will be proof for them.”    The man went away and began to publicize the whole matter. He spread the report abroad so that it was impossible for Jesus to enter a town openly. He remained outside in deserted places, and people kept coming to him from everywhere.
(i) Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time
One of the more distressing impacts of the Coronavirus for many people has been the experience of social isolation. People in nursing homes and hospitals in recent months have felt especially isolated. I have a friend, a woman in her nineties, who was in hospital for several months before and after Christmas and, for perfectly understandable reasons, no one could visit her. I am sure that many others in the parish have had a similar experience with their loved ones or friends in hospital or nursing homes. Hopefully, we can begin to look forward to a time when we can interact with one another in a more natural and human way.
In the time of Jesus, leprosy was the most isolating of all diseases. In the words of today’s first reading, the leper had to live ‘outside the camp’, away from the normal places where people interact. If for some reason, the leper drew near to people, the Jewish law stipulated that they had to announce their coming, shouting, ‘Unclean, unclean’, so people could move away from them as quickly as possible. Not only were lepers socially isolated, but they were religiously isolated. They couldn’t come to the local synagogue to join in the Sabbath service. What we find the leper doing in today’s gospel reading then is all the more remarkable. He breaks out of his isolation to approach Jesus, going against the stipulations of the religious law of the time. Why did he so something so unconventional? Presumably, he had heard of the reputation of Jesus as one who proclaimed God’s rule of love by healing the sick and welcoming the excluded. The words of the leper to Jesus show that he was in no doubt as to Jesus’ power to heal him, ‘you can cure me’. Yet, he wasn’t sure that Jesus wanted to heal him, ‘If you want to, you can cure me’. When people have been living in isolation for a long time, they can begin to doubt whether people really want to connect with them. They may begin to wonder if anyone out there really cares enough to lessen their isolation.
If the leper had approached others as he approached Jesus, they would have promptly moved away. However, the leper suspected that Jesus might be different. Here is someone, he hoped, whose ways are not our ways. How did Jesus react to the leper? The emotion ascribed to Jesus in the gospel reading suggests a deeply rooted, gut wrenching, reaction to the leper, a mixture of anger and compassion, anger at what this disease had done to the quality of this man’s life, and a compassionate desire to change his situation for the better. This deep seated, emotional, response to the man finds expression in the words Jesus spoke to him, ‘Of course I want to. Be cured!’ It would have been enough for Jesus to say, ‘Be cured!’ for the man to be healed. In the gospels, Jesus frequently heals people with his authoritative word. However, on this occasion, Jesus does the unthinkable. Having spoken to the leper, he then touched him. Once Jesus touched him, the leper must have realized that he was being released from his isolation. We might wonder how long it had been since the leper had felt the touch of another human being. A certain understanding of God’s law had excluded him from the community of the living and left him on the threshold of a kind of death. However, by that touch, Jesus was revealing that this is not what God wanted for him. The touch of Jesus was the touch of God. Jesus reveals a God who does not exclude anyone. Jesus shows that in the heart of God there is room for everyone, especially for those who have been made to feel that they do not belong. Sometimes our religious laws and institutions exclude people, but Jesus reveals a God who wants to touch the lives of all in a healing and life-giving way. Jesus’ whole ministry displays God to be one who works to demolish the boundaries that seek to keep some people safe at the expense of leaving others out in the cold.
Leprosy is not the frightening disease today that it was in the time of Jesus, as it can be treated and cured. Yet, in every age, society has a tendency to decide who is acceptable and who is out of favour. We continue to relegate some people to the side-lines for a whole variety of reasons, perhaps because we seem them as a threat to us or as a burden on us or just because they are different from us. I am often struck by that saying of Jesus in John’s gospel, ‘When I am lifted up from the earth, I will draw all people to myself’. Having been lifted up on the cross and lifted up in glory, the risen Lord continues his work of drawing all people to himself today. The gospel reading today raises the question of what Jesus wants. I think we can say with certainty that today the risen Lord wants to work through each one of us to rescue people from their sense of isolation. He wants the miracle of today’s gospel reading to become a contemporary reality, through our willingness to befriend those who are isolated or who find themselves on the margins of acceptablity for whatever reason.
(ii) Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time
 People who feel isolated appreciate it when someone enters their isolation and tries to connect with them. There are various reasons why people can find themselves isolated. Old age and failing health can make it difficult for people to make the kind of contact with others they deeply desire. That is especially the case if people are house bound. The radio link we have in the parish is one attempt to make contact with people who find it difficult to make contact with us. There is a certain kind of temperament that can leave people somewhat isolated. The shy, retiring, introspective person who finds it difficult to make friends can become very isolated over time. It can be a struggle for others to connect with them. To be a stranger in a land or an environment that is foreign to us can also be a very isolating experience. I’m sure some of our recent immigrants would speak to us of an initial sense of isolation. Any one of us can experience a sense of isolation from time to time. I remember my first weekend in the seminary at the age of 18. It was my first time away from home for any length. The sense of isolation was overwhelming, although it did pass. We may feel isolated even though we are surrounded by people, friends and family. We can be struggling with personal issues that we find very difficult to share with others, even those who are closest to us. In such a situation it can be a great relief to meet someone who is struggling with similar issues.
 In the time of Jesus the disease of leprosy left a person totally isolated. If you were a leper, there was no one for company but other lepers. The community needed to protect itself from a highly contagious disease, and the only effective way to do this was to isolate the leper from all forms of human interaction. In that context, the action of Jesus in touching the leper in today’s gospel reading would have been considered subversive. His touching the leper was putting the whole community at risk. A chain is as strong as its weakest link. Here was a weak link, someone who risked the health of the whole community by touching an infected person. If you watch the TV programme you know what happens to the weakest link. They are banished into the darkness; they are treated like lepers. Yet, in touching the leper, Jesus did not in fact infect the community. He healed the leper and, thereby, strengthened the community. In responding to the cry of the leper and in reaching into his isolation, Jesus released him into the community again. Having healed the leper, we are told that Jesus had to stay outside in places where nobody lived. His touching the leper cost him something; he took upon himself something of the leper’s isolation. This kind of ministry would eventually lead Jesus to become totally isolated. He would be crucified ‘outside’ the city where nobody lived, where he would die isolated and alone.
 The gospel reading reveals Jesus as someone who desires to enter into our isolation, who seeks to release us from our isolation, even at the cost of experiencing great isolation himself. He continues to enter our experiences of isolation today if, like the leper, we invite him. In the gospel of John Jesus says, ‘Anyone who comes to me, I will never drive away’. When the leper came to Jesus, he half expected to be driven away. This explains his rather tentative request, ‘if you are willing…’ In reply Jesus said, ‘Of course I am willing’. We can be equally tentative in our own approach to the Lord. Like the leper, we may feel unclean in some way. Something in our lives, in our past or in our present, can make us hesitate to draw near to the Lord. We may wonder if the Lord is willing to draw near to us. Yet, there is no part of our lives which the Lord will not gladly touch with his compassionate and life-giving presence. There is nothing in us that would keep him from us. He does not hesitate to touch, even to embrace, those parts of our lives we may consider ugly and infected. It is we who need to rise above our hesitation. The letter to the Hebrews puts it well when it encourages us, ‘Let us approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need’.
 The gospel reading encourages us to approach the Lord with the same assurance with which he approaches us. That reading also challenges us to be as alert to those who may be crying out to us in their isolation as Jesus was to the leper. That cry is not always easy to hear, even when it comes from those close to us. It can be subtle and faint. It can be hesitant, as it seeks out whether we are willing. Our own preoccupations can prevent us from hearing it, and can make us hesitate to respond. We may sense that it will cost us something to respond. Yet, to hear and respond can be truly life-giving for the one who cries out to us and for us. We ask the Lord to give us the willingness to heed the cry of those who cry out to us in their isolation.
And/Or
(iii) Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time
 We know from experience that we find it easier to connect with some people than with others. We find ourselves drawn to some individuals and being somewhat put off by others. We can react negatively to some people for a great variety of reasons. Maybe we just do not like the look of them, or we find their personality hard to take, or we have very little sympathy with their views. We probably tend to avoid the people that we find difficult to connect with. We keep them at a distance from us.
 In the time of Jesus the leper was someone that no one wanted to connect with. Indeed, the Jewish law required that lepers be kept at a distance from everyone else. Leprosy was a disease that condemned those afflicted by it to a life in which their only company was other lepers. The disease was contagious and the community had to be preserved from infection. In today’s gospel reading the leper leaves his isolation and daringly approaches Jesus, calling out to him on his knees: ‘If you want to, you can cure me’. He was prepared to break the law that condemned him to isolation in order to make contact with Jesus. Clearly the leper did not doubt Jesus’ ability to heal him, ‘you can cure me’. His only doubt was whether Jesus wanted to cure him, ‘if you want to’. In response to the leper, Jesus did the unthinkable. He stretched out his hand and touched him, declaring as he did so, ‘Of course, I want to!’ The man could now return to the community from which he had been isolated. In connecting with the leper, Jesus enabled the leper to connect with everyone else. In touching him, he enabled the leper to touch others.
 In touching the leper, Jesus reveals a God who wants to make contact with us in all our brokenness. Jesus was declaring that there is no human life that God cannot touch. Everyone kept a distance from the leper. In touching the leper, Jesus was declaring that God is not like everyone. We may keep our distance from God for various reasons, but God never keeps a distance from us. We may think that because of something we have done in the past, we cannot approach God with confidence. Jesus reveals that God is always ready to approach us, regardless of how we might see ourselves, or how others might see us. Jesus could have healed the leper without touching him. The gospel often depicts Jesus healing people with a word. Yet, in the case of the leper, word was not enough. Touching the leper was a much more tangible sign that God wanted to connect with this man. Jesus makes God tangible as well as audible.
 God continues to be tangible as well as audible in the church, the body of the risen Jesus. There is more to the sacraments of the church than words. The sacraments are tangible; they reveal the God who wants to touch us. The water of baptism, the oil of confirmation, the bread and wine of the Eucharist are all tangible signs of God’s presence to us. God wants to touch our lives through his Son. If it does nothing else, the story of Jesus and the leper makes that abundantly clear. The only question is, ‘Do we want God to touch our lives?’ When it comes to God, do we have the passionate daring that the leper shows in today’s gospel reading?
 Outside the context of family and close friends, we have to be careful with touch nowadays. In particular, many of us are much more hesitant to touch children than we might have been in the past. We know that touch can mean many things. It can be self-serving as well as serving of others. It can be harmful as well as helpful. In the culture of his time, Jesus seemed to be remarkably free when it came to touch. In last Sunday’s gospel reading, he took Simon Peter’s mother in law by the hand and lifted her up; later on in Mark’s gospel he takes Jairus’ daughter by the hand and he takes children up in his arms and lays his hands on them. We are hesitant when it comes to touch because we know of what we are made. Jesus had no need to be hesitant. His touch was always deeply respectful and completely life-giving. Jesus shows us a God who recognizes our infinite value and worth and relates to us accordingly. That is why in the words of the letter to the Hebrews, we can ‘approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need’.
(iv) Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time
 There are many places in Ireland that could be termed isolated. They are away from human habitation. They have their own attractiveness because of their isolation. People from the city like to head off to these isolated places to get away from the hustle and bustle of their normal routine. Many people will have their own favourite isolated spot that they keep returning to. It is not always necessary to travel long distances to find such an isolated spot. For those of us living here in Clontarf, parts of the bull island or of Saint Anne’s park can give us all the isolation we need to get a sense of being away from it all. This is the kind of isolation that we seek out; we look for it because we want it and we feel we need it. When we have had enough of it, we can return to our normal day to day routine with its various demands and schedules.
 There are other forms of isolation which we don’t welcome and don’t seek out. When we experience this kind of isolation, we long for someone to enter our isolation and connect deeply with us. Old age can bring on this form of isolation for some. A person’s spouse may have died or they have always been single; family and friends may be very caught up with their own lives. If such a person moves from their home into a nursing home, their sense of isolation can be compounded. Certain forms of illness can bring on this kind of unwelcome and unsought for isolation at any age. People may not visit the person who is ill because they are not sure what to say to them, especially if that person is relatively young.
 In the time of Jesus, the most isolating illness was certainly leprosy. The leper lived apart, with only other lepers for company. Lepers were not only distant from the human community, but they were also considered to be distant from God. That is why they were considered ‘unclean’, in the sense of being at the furthest possible remove from the holiness of God. Not only were they not permitted to approach people, but they were given no encouragement to approach God. That makes the portrayal of the leper in this morning’s gospel reading all the more striking. He approaches Jesus, in spite of the fact that the Jewish law forbade him to approach anyone. Here was a leper who was determined to break out of his isolation. We can only presume that he had come to hear of the healing ministry of Jesus, and that is why he approached him. The leper was in no doubt about Jesus’ power to heal him; his only doubt was whether or not Jesus wanted to heal him, ‘You can cure me, if you want to’. Did this man of God want to connect with someone who was ‘unclean’ and beyond the boundary of God’s reach? Jesus’ response to the leper’s statement was unambiguous, ‘Of course I want to. Be cured’. Jesus showed that he had not only the power to heal him but the desire to do so as well. Jesus wanted what God wanted; in the garden of Gethsemane he would pray, ‘not what I want, but what you want’.
 In saying, ‘Of course I want to’, Jesus was revealing what God wanted. The leper was wrong to think that he was beyond God’s reach. Jesus reveals that there is no human condition - no human situation - that is beyond the reach of God. There is no ‘out of bounds’ as far as God is concerned; there is no need for anyone to live ‘outside the camp’ in the words of the first reading. There were many categories of people in the time of Jesus who had been led to believe that they were beyond the reach of God. Jesus revealed God to be someone who had no fear of contamination but was comfortable entering into the often murky depths of human existence.
 The healing of the leper is the third healing story in Mark’s gospel. In the first healing story, Jesus healed a man by means of his word. Presumably, Jesus could have healed the leper just with a word, ‘Be cured’. Yet, Jesus chose to stretch out his hand and touch the leper. Such was the nature of this man’s isolation that more than a word was needed to show that his isolation was over. He needed to be touched, to be held. It was against the Jewish law to touch a leper, because of the risk of being contaminated and contaminating the whole community. However, Jesus knew that God’s power at work within him could never be contaminated by the human condition. The power of life, of God’s life, within Jesus was stronger that the power of death within the leper. Jesus reveals a God who wants to touch our lives in a life-giving way, regardless of how broken or ugly or hopeless our lives might seem to us or to others. The Lord not only speaks his word to us; he connects with each of us in ways that are concrete and personal.
(v) Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time
 We all feel a need to connect with others, to be in communion with others. We don’t like to feel isolated or cut off from family, friends, or the wider community. One of the most challenging aspects of sickness or physical disability can be the isolation that it brings. When we are ill or our body grows weak we cannot take the same initiative we used to take to connect with others. People can become housebound because of their physical condition; the things they used to do to meet up with others are no longer possible. Certain forms of illness can be more isolating than others. The most isolating form of illness in the time of Jesus was leprosy. For hygienic reasons, lepers had to live apart, ‘outside the camp’, in the words of today’s first reading. Lepers were only allowed to have each other for company. They lived apart from their family, their friends and the community to which they belonged.
 The leper in today’s gospel reading seemed determined to break out of his isolation. He did something that was unconventional and daring in approaching Jesus and pleading with him, ‘If you want to, you can cure me’. His desperation to be healed of an illness that kept him totally isolated drove him to do something that was against the Jewish Law at the time. In response to the leper’s daring approach, Jesus did something just as unconventional. He reached out his hand and touched the leper. If it was forbidden for a leper to approach the healthy, it was certainly forbidden for a healthy person to touch a leper. It seems that the leper’s desire to be freed from his isolation was met by an equally strong desire on the part of Jesus to deliver the leper from his isolation. The gospels portray Jesus as someone who worked to deliver people from their isolation, whether it is an isolation imposed by illness, as in the case of the leper, or by their lifestyle, as in the case of someone like Zacchaeus.
 Both the person of Jesus and of the leper have something to say to us about steps we can take to connect with people, to break out of our isolation, even when the odds seem to be stacked against us. We can all be tempted from time to time to retreat into our shell, whether it is because of our health or some disability or some past experience that has drained us of life. It is at such times that we need something of the initiative and daring energy of the leper. There can come a time when, like the leper, we need to take our courage in our own hands and, against the conventional expectation, to head out in some bold direction. It was desperation that drove the leper to seek out Jesus. Sometimes for us too, it can be our desperation that finally gets us going, gets us to connect with that person who matters to us and to whom we matter more than we realize or that gets us to link up with some gathering or some group that has the potential to do us good or maybe even to transform our lives. Sometimes I can be amazed at the initiatives that some people take to connect with others, people who are much less healthier than I am and are much less physically able. I come across it all the time in the parish, such as older people who have mastered the internet and have come completely at home with Skype; younger people who in spite of some serious disability have found the means to live a very full life in the service of others. The man in today’s gospel reading who approaches Jesus could well be the patron saint of all those who strive to connect with others against all the odds.
 Unlike the leper, Jesus was perfectly healthy, yet, like the leper, he had something of the same desire and energy to connect with others. When Jesus was approached by the leper, he could have run away, as most people would have done. Instead, he stood his ground and engaged with the leper. He engaged with him not only by word but by action. He not only spoke to the leper, but he touched him. Jesus often healed people by means of his word alone; but this man who had suffered from extreme isolation needed to be touched. Jesus did more than was asked of him; he took an initiative that was as daring as the leper’s initiative towards him. He went as far as any human being could possibly go to deliver this man from his isolation. What the Lord did for the leper he wishes to continue doing through each one of us today. There are many isolated and lonely people among us. The scope is there for all of us to take the kind of step that Jesus took towards the leper. Again, I can see examples of that in the parish all the time, such as people who look in on neighbours and make sure that they are all right and have what they need. There are always people among us waiting to be touched by our compassionate presence. When they are, they can experience the same kind of transformation as the leper did in today’s gospel reading.
am OP that wrote one of the posts about kanojo, I learned from a post before mine that kanojo datamines, and that was DAYS later from when I submitted my post, so at least I learned something new.
(still, it shows that there's so much manpower that organizes itself to make gameplay better from the chaos that is FR's inefficiencies and gaps in the game)
My point still stands though: there's lots to be improved on FR. I don't think I've ever seen an online game that makes use of Google Sheets more than FR, to the point that FR is just a side game to Google Sheets. Months go by with dominance unbalanced. Customer service feel like you submitted a ticket into a void. Art stuff is clipped or miscolored, and I get the feeling there's many competent people with skills and time to contribute to quality control on the site instead of relying on the small artist team to one day get to it.
I understand the FR admins, artists and programmers are human. I appreciate when there was a transparency update a few months back, because transparency is one of the things some scaled-up games lack (looking at you Gaia Online, and some other unsavory pet games with untrustworthy mod teams and direction). I value that they're still creating new content and maintaining their holiday schedules like clockwork.
If you put aside all the flaws, FR is still playable and very enjoyable. But some of these addressable flaws have been longstanding for years. Pain points that suggestion threads talk about time and time again. (And are shot down by keyboard warriors that seem to think that some suggestions that can improve gameplay are gamebreaking and therefore invalid.)
Only the FR team can figure their issues out in an acceptable manner. Until then, other users resort to creating spreadsheets and webscrapers to make up for chaotic data-records on site, using special CSS overlays to make visual sorting easier, chatting on more off-site mediums instead of utilizing some of the forums or on-site interactions, and begrudging the once-loved mechanics of dominance and missing the life it had before. I'd love to see more action on their part to rectify some of these pain points, in the form of holding a back and forth discussion with users on what issues are pertinent, valuing their input and working actively to patch up holes here and there.
