im in a stranger things character music mood so here are some artists each character for sure likes
will: super obvious but the clash, the cure, david bowie, billy idol, the police, talking heads, etc. (i feel like this is a very basic answer but its the truth)
mike: he is so 90s so weezer, oasis, radiohead, etc (i already made a post abt this)
dustin: hall&oats, tears for fears, wham!, KISS, TOTO, a-ha, michael jackson, duran duran, baltimora
lucas: idky the first thing i thought of was bananarama but he would so love bananarama. beegees, michael jackson, earth wind & fire, jackson 5, stevie wonder, george michael, prince, idk
el: i dont think she really has time to listen to music but she would like popular 80s pop. like cyndi lauper, madonna, wham!, electric light orchestra, kim wilde, stacey q, the gogos, tiffany, soft cell, reo speedwagon, abba, bonnie tyler
max: kate bush obviously, blondie, duran duran, bon jovi, pixies, soft cell, tears for fears, rick springfield, no doubt, billy idol, pat benatar, tiffany, joan jett, etc
max and el are similar but el's is more 'listening to music for the first ever time' vibes while max is more lived in
jonathan: talking heads, the ramones, the clash, bowie, duran duran but only girls on film, the cramps, depeche mode, R.E.M., phil collins, the kinks, the animals, billy idol, the cure, the cars, blue oyster cult, jimi hendrix, styx, pixies, pink floyd, cheap trick, genesis, ozzy osbourne, foreigner, etc. i could go on and on. i think there would be a little more 60s and 70s in here too.
nancy: madonna, heart, reo speedwagon, billy joel, roxy music, cyndi lauper, joan jett, pat benatar, hall & oats, blondie, kim wilde, whitney houston, kate bush, tiffany, wham!, soft cell, bananarama, bonnie tyler, stacey q, lita ford, the bangles, cher, pet shop boys, john mellencamp, paula abdul, u2, olivia newton john, etc
steve: bon jovi, survivor, journey, boston, yes, DEVO, dead or alive, eddie money, kansas, foreigner, scorpions, warrant, etc. basically just basic (but good) bands that make him feel like a badass LMAO
robin: idk, just a slightly dorkier version of nancys playlist if that makes sense. i can envision it in my head i just cant execute it
joyce: heart, fleetwood mac, the mamas & the papas, journey, foreigner, boston, tom petty, toto, guns n roses, janis joplin, the rolling stones, jimi hendrix, blue oyster cult, ELO, led zeppelin, grateful dead, pink floyd, jefferson airplane
hopper: bad company, joe cocker, bob seger, eagles, the cars, jefferson starship, bob dylan, journey, styx, johnny cash, bruce springsteen
i could probably add so many more artists but it would probably go off the rails so i just gave u the basic ones
also i was looking at character playlists on spotify and most of them sucked (steve harrington is not listening to mitski) so heres some inspo for actual music they would listen to if you want to make a more accurate playlist

Please tell me what’s going on in Hollyoaks!! I stopped watching in like 2015 but I still love the 2007-2013 era so much. I just saw Hannah came back what!? Also where do you watch all these old episodes
hi! I think I also stopped watching around then so I’m pretty rusty and just catching up myself.
right now, the major storylines are:
- carter shepherd is the new headmaster at hollyoaks high. he is also freya’s father - she is a student who was paralyzed by john paul’s drunk driving bus crash. john paul has been struggling a lot with the guilt from that crash and reckoning with sobriety after i think about a year of being in a relationship with an abusive partner, pc george kiss. sally killed george when he was about to attack theresa who confronted him about his abusing john paul.
carter is also a religious leader, leads gay conversion therapy under the guise of self-help sessions for men, and has a following. john paul at first leaned into his therapy sessions because they were about getting control back, battling his inner demons, etc - and he was particularly moved because both carter and freya forgave him for the accident. when he clocked that it was gay conversion, he tried to disrupt the sessions and talk carter out of holding them, when carter revealed he himself struggled with his sexuality. naturally they start falling in love. john paul has been urging him to stop gay conversion practices and start accepting his sexuality, but one of his followers gareth saw carter and john paul kissing and (possibly) heard them having sex in the dog’s bathroom (i think this could be someone else though) and is blackmailing carter about it - trying to get him to go back to practicing what he preaches and leaving john paul alone.
carter is also publicly dating maxine.
- mercedes is pregnant and was getting married to a character named felix who just learned that she cheated on him with warren. they just had a car crash with all three of them. i think the storyline here is that mercy is going to have that situation where she has twins where each child has a different father.
- sally is working with carter at the school again, helping with accounting stuff.
- ste and james are in a rough place - james struggled with parenting lucas who lashed out at him, said some hurtful things, so james hit him and locked him in a shed overnight.
- leah got alcohol poisoning at a rave and called ste to pick her up - when he was driving her to the hospital he had a near-miss with mercedes/felix/warren’s car and it is insinuated he ran over and killed ella. her boot was in his front wheel and you see his car jostle while he’s driving and not paying attention to the road. warren thinks felix killed ella.
- cleo is back and wants to reunite with joel who is seeing leela right now. she has a boyfriend though and he seems like he might be like a controlling stalker.
- lucas is struggling with his sexuality - he’s falling for a classmate named dillon but lucas doesn’t want to be like ste, or affiliates ste’s hardships with being gay so he is pushing back. there were also a few weird scenes where they were super heavy handed of ste being like LUCAS AT LEAST YOU’RE NOT GAY BECAUSE IT’S NOT EASY LET ME TELL YOU lol.
- peri, romeo, hunter, prince and their friend group are all embroiled in a whodunnit murder of romeo’s abusive ex.
- nancy is back, working at hollyoaks high again. hannah is staying with her and darren with the kids.
- hannah… brought darren and suzanne’s twins to hollyoaks to “meet” darren. this is all very silly because i was just rewatching 2013/2014 clips and they literally talk about darren visiting the twins so idk why they think we’d buy he doesn’t recognize them or they don’t know who he is. emma rigby is signed onto the show for at least a year. she reunited with john paul, overheard carter and gareth talking. she also seems to have something fishy going on as she’s nervously screening calls.
- yaz and tom are together. yaz works at the school and is struggling with early menopause.
- oh sienna was going to marry this wealthy guy named rafe who was faking terminal illness, but he was conspiring with a character named dilly (who he said was his sister, but is actually his wife) who has some affiliation with patrick that we don’t fully know. anyway in true blake fashion dilly tied rafe to a radiator in a basement on the night of his and sienna’s wedding and he died.
I think that’s most of it - sorry to the families i’m missing. I think it’s mostly just fallout from the car crashes rn.
I’m American so the past year of episodes is on Hulu. For super old clips, like earlier John Paul storylines, I look for uploaders on YouTube or Dailymotion. Sometimes searching the full date of episodes helps.

Jeffrey Epstein List: Decoding the Identities behind John Does
The recent unsealing of the first 40 documents from the Jeffrey Epstein list has sent shockwaves through the public, shedding light on a web of high-profile associates linked to the disgraced financier. While the list includes familiar names like Bill Clinton, Prince Andrew, Michael Jackson, Stephen Hawking, and Alan Dershowitz, it's crucial to understand the context of these mentions. The court proceedings consistently referred to Epstein's associates and victims as John Doe and John Dane. However, with the release of the initial batch, names of some of the 170 individuals have come to light. Notably, the document explicitly states that the inclusion of a celebrity's name doesn't imply their involvement or awareness of any wrongdoing by Epstein. Ghislaine Maxwell emerges as a central figure, mentioned a staggering 849 times in the court documents. As Epstein's sexual offense conspirator, Maxwell's involvement is extensively detailed throughout the testimonies, contributing to her conviction in June 2022. Prince Andrew, with his royal title, appears 67 times in the documents. Testimonies, particularly from victim Johanna Sjoberg, allege inappropriate conduct by the Duke inside Epstein's Manhattan apartment in 2001. Alan Dershowitz, Epstein's lawyer, is mentioned over 100 times, facing allegations of sexual misconduct that he vehemently denies. Former President Bill Clinton's name appears 73 times, with victim Sjoberg's testimony suggesting Epstein claimed that Clinton "likes them young." Clinton, labeled John Doe 36, has been drawn into the legal proceedings against Epstein and Maxwell. Donald Trump is named four times, including an incident where Epstein contacted him after a plane diversion to Atlantic City. Testimonies recall Epstein's call to Trump and a visit to one of his casinos, but with no massage involved. Beyond the well-known names, the documents reveal mentions of other celebrities like David Copperfield, George Lucas, Kevin Spacey, Naomi Campbell, and Michael Jackson. While these figures are associated with Epstein to varying degrees, testimonies indicate diverse levels of interaction and involvement. As the legal saga unfolds, it's essential to navigate the complexities of these revelations, separating association from implication, and recognizing the varied contexts in which these high-profile names emerge from the shadows of the Epstein list. 2023 Gift Guide: Top 4K Ultra HD Movies
Tumblr media
2023 Gift Guide: Top 4K Ultra HD Movies Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs: Ultimate Collector’s Edition Here’s a selection of top gift ideas for ultra-high definition-loving, cinema connoisseurs in the family. Disney’s 1937 Musical Adaptation Arguably the most influential animated film in the history of cinema finally gets a 4K restoration worthy of its stature. Disney’s 1937 musical adaptation of the Brothers Grimm fairytale explores a princess escaping from a threatening evil godmother and eventually taking care of a group of pint-sized blue-collar miners while waiting for a prince to save. The plot arrives with charming songs and dance but even a touch of terror courtesy of a delectable Evil Queen looking to kill her godchild with a poison apple. All presented in a meticulous hand-drawn style, the classic also featured iconic tunes such as “Someday My Prince Will Come,” “Whistle While You Work” and “Heigh-Ho.” A new generation can now experience animation history with a transfer offering the cleanest and closest to the source material version of the movie ever available and truly worthy of gifting to those with a home theater library. Best Extras Viewers get a Blu-ray version of the films with all of the goodies culled from Signature Edition released in 2016. Highlights include an optional commentary track with Roy E. Disney, historian John Canemaker and legacy recordings by Walt Disney; a 33-minute retrospective on making the movie; and a 30-minute overview of the animation house Hyperion Studios that was renamed Walt Disney Studios. Indiana Jones 4-Movie SteelBook Collection Once again, Paramount offers for the holidays a collection of films starring George Lucas and Steven Spielberg’s iconic archeologist and now packaged in a 5-disc set presenting a perfect gift to fans. Viewers get 4K remastered versions of “Raiders of the Lost Ark” (1981); “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom” (1984); “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade” (1989); and “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” (2008). The extreme-action adventures do not disappoint throughout as Indy battles the Nazis, religious fanatics, the Cold War Russians and even extraterrestrials as he journeys around the world. I’ll note the elephant in the room and that is not including the latest movie “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” in the box, which does not make for a complete Indiana Jones set, but arguably still does contain the best movies of the franchise. Best Extras Viewers will find an extra Blu-ray disc in the case for “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” that delivers an avalanche of content from the 2012 “Complete Adventures” Blu-ray set. Expect not only a four-part retrospective of the films (roughly 2.5 hours long) but a 1981 documentary on the first film (an hour long) and another 14 featurettes (more than three hours in total) covering everything from the stunts, sound, music, effects, women, bugs, props and locations. As far as packaging, toss aside the slightly flimsy cardboard box and gift receivers will focus on the impressive metal cases housing each of the film discs. Each Steelbook features Indy (torso and up) in limited hues and in a heroic pose on a stark white cover with a swath of orange color splattered across the region below him and an outline of his coveted object in the field. The back of the case reveals the item in limited color. The interior spread of each offers lifelike color illustrations of key characters from each film in a collage-style design with an orangish world map behind them. For example, on the “Raiders of the Lost Ark” case, it features Indy with bullwhip mid-crack on the front and the Ark of the Covenant on the back. The interior highlights close-ups of a determined Indiana Jones, true love Marion Ravenwood and rival Rene Belloq along with a cobra, a few skulls and a German troop transport truck. Carlito’s Way: Limited Edition Director Brian De Palma’s stylistic 1993 urban crime drama gets celebrated with a return of a deserved ultra-high definition restoration to showcase the beauty of a seamier 1970s New York City and some dynamic acting performances. The tale adapted from Judge Edwin Torres’ pair of novels has Puerto Rican heroin king Carlito Brigante freed on a legal technicality after serving five years in prison thanks to corrupted lawyer and good buddy Dave Kleinfeld (an unrecognizable Sean Penn). Now a legit nightclub owner, all he needs is 75 big ones to get out of the city and retire to the Bahamas, but try as he might to stay clean, he gets pulled back into his old criminal ways. Mr. Pacino mesmerizes on the screen at all times and is complemented by a beady-eyed Mr. Penn, Penelope Ann Miller as his lover interest Gail, and crime boss Benny Blanco from the Bronx. The 4K digital rebirth of the film highlights Stephen H. Burum’s cinematography packed with visually stunning moments, such as Mr. Pacino in a black leather top coat standing in front of a painted red brick wall; a rainy street at night bathed in blue light; an opening credits scene in stark black and white; and a 10-minute harrowing chase scene during an evening in the Big Apple’s subway system. Best Extras As expected and appreciated Arrow Video overwhelms with its limited edition, slipcased release that makes for a perfect gift for De Palma and Pacino fans. Two new optional commentary tracks lead the way with solos by film critic Matt Zoller Seitz and select scene commentary by De Palma biographer Douglas Keesey. Additional interviews include 13 minutes with Mr. Torres, 17 minutes with editors Bill Pankow and Kristina Boden and a vintage five minutes with the director. Viewers also will want to look at a 19-minute appreciation by critic David Edelstein and a 35-minute archival overview of the production going back to the 2005 DVD release. The package includes a 60-page, full-color booklet with new art by Tom Ralston a critical essay by crime-fiction expert Barry Forshaw and the original production notes. Arrow also tosses in a double-sided poster (16 inches by 20 inches featuring newly commissioned artwork by Sara Deck) and six double-sided, postcard-sized lobby card reproductions. ``` Read the full article

Col. Barton Lucas: more than a military man
Tumblr media
A zoomed version of a 1754 map by Emanuel Bowen apparently showing English Plantations
In the past, we have written about Col. Barton Lucas, captain of the Third Company. Previous posts have focused on records kept by Lucas’s clerk about the clothing worn by members of the Maryland 400 and mentioned in passing that he was sick and missed the Battle of Brooklyn. We also recalled how John Hughes, a private in Lucas’s company, mentioned how the Battle of Brooklyn made Capt. Barton Lucas “deranged in consequence of losing his company” and about his other military duties in the rest of the war including his service as a militia captain. Rather than just reciting the recently expanded biography of Lucas, this post focuses on a number of aspects of Lucas’s life including his family relations and life as a slaveowner with a plantation.
Reposted from Academia.edu and my History Hermann WordPress blog. I originally wrote this while working at the Maryland State Archives on the Finding the Maryland 400 project.
According to some sources, Barton Lucas was born in Prince George’s County in 1730. Thomas Lucas was his father and Anne Keene his mother, and Barton had four other siblings named Basil, Sarah, Margaret, and Thomas. [1] In 1756, Lucas’s father died, willing his half of his 112-acre-plantation on land called “Hopeyard” or “Hope yard,” sitting on the Potomac River, to Lucas and the other half to his brother, Basil. [2] Six years later, in 1762, Lucas married Priscilla Sprigg, the daughter of Osborn Sprigg, a prominent Maryland legislator, whose last name changed to Lucas after their marriage. Prisey, his “beloved wife” was born in 1735 and, like Lucas, had four siblings named Lucy, Esther, Rachel, and Eliza. [3] In the 1750s and 1760s, Barton cemented himself as a well-off plantation owner and slaveowner like his father, buying and selling enslaved blacks for his farming plantation. [4]
When he inherited the land from his father, plantations were transitioning. During the 1740s Maryland slavery began to change with enslaved blacks developing immunity to diseases in the Americas and planters, seeing the advantage of a domestic, self-reproducing labor force, imported men and women so that ratio of enslaved men and women balanced out and they, as a result, relied less on the transatlantic slave trade. On Maryland plantations, this change definitely had an impact. [5]
In the years after the Revolutionary War, a time when Lucas returned as the overseer of his plantation, many planters shifted from tobacco to a mix of corn, wheat, hay, and livestock raising, among other products, with important markets of urban populations in Maryland cities and towns. [6] The list of his possessions, which showed that he possessed plantation tools, tanned leather, and sizable amount of wool, along with numerous farm animals and six enslaved blacks, could indicate that the plant sheered sheep, slaughtered and skinned cows for their leather, which could be used for leather shoes or belts, and killed pigs for their own consumption and sold to broader markets. [7] During the Revolutionary War, the previous trade exchange between Britain and the 13 colonies was disrupted, but commodities such as bread, flour, wheat and tobacco were sent to parts of the world, such as the West Indies, while vital supplies sent back to sustain the war effort. [8] In addition, livestock, in Charles County for example, had to be pastured and fed, beef and pork salted, and wheat grown to feed the Continental Army and other military forces despite a “war ravaged economy.” [9]
Lucas’s plantation falls into an existing historical context. Based on the list of his possessions after his death, which includes tablecloths, napkins, walnut chairs and tables, wine glasses, tea kettles, and pots, it is clear that he, a well-off planter, was part of a broader trend of eighteenth century Maryland plantations, in the pseudo-classic Georgian style, which came with “tea, china, and good manners.” [10]
When Lucas died in either 1784 or 1785, in Prince George’s County, with six enslaved blacks held collectively by his wife and himself, and much of his property value consisted of enslaved blacks. [11] Lucas’s brother-in-law, Osborn Sprigg Jr., who was a prominent figure in the revolutionary period, became executor of the estate because Priscilla Lucas died. [12] Lucas’s plantation stayed in the family with Sprigg sold the land in 1786 by a member of the Lucas family. [13]
