it’s usually kinda obvious throughout the fic but sometimes you don’t realize until they say something that is just like….. honey. please go into a gas station any gas station & look at the selection behind the counter

#i rant #this post brought to you by the phrase ‘cheap marlboro’ #here’s the thing. while there’s some variation among individual brands re: price you’re not gonna have huge variations #to make say filtered marlboros the expensive ones and unfiltered the cheap ones. there’ll be maybe a dollar’s difference maybe less #but also your character’s broke? theyre smoking pall malls #and if theyre living in the western us theyre probably buying off the rez (not applicable to this fic but still) #also a good number of states have minimum price lists for cigs online so that’s also a great starting point #the thing is. like any subculture each brand has its own ‘thing’ associated w it #so like i would never have a macho character smoke light cigarettes or lucky strikes both of which are more associated w women #so for a really macho dude eg frank castle to smoke that shit? naw #in this way the character in question (jason todd) smoking marlboros is something i accept as in character. but theyre not cheap #in jersey btw the minimum price for marlboros ranges from $9.44-10.30 #which is on the higher end in that state #the cheapest cigs in jersey are a brand called this which i’ve never heard of for $5.03 #i grew up w my dad smoking kamel reds which were always on the pricer end of things. they’re like $7.50 nm rez prices. goin for $12.17 in nj #anyway! #oh. this looks like it’s a korean brand. very interesting
