POTO Fics by Mertens
More than any other Phantom of the Opera fic writer, I find myself consuming Mertens’ works over and over for the pleasing writing style, the complex emotions, and the raw and realistic portrayals of Christines in particular. Mertens’ writing is how I also got into modern AUs!
I’ve never done any rec list for this fandom so let’s start with my fav fics from @intothemertensverse! (Hi there! Thank you!)
Gustave Daae’s Daughter: A disfigured man on the edges of society with a good heart, Erik has been Gustave Daae’s closest friend for years. When Gustave realizes his time is almost up after contracting an incurable disease, he leaves his two most prized possessions to his friend—his violin, and his daughter. In progress as of 01/09/2023. If you’re not reading this then honestly what do you actually do with all the hours of your life? Some big surprises in this one. Featuring Ayesha and also Angst with a capital A.
A Love There Is No Cure For from Sonnet 86: A fic of epic proportions but it can be read independently of the larger verse it’s in. Major Leroux influences, and follows the SLOW BURNING journey of how Christine’s grumpy old insecure teacher became the happiest man alive (including all the very awkward sex). Mertens’ masterpiece.
An Old Fashioned Love Song: After an incident results in Christine needing to fulfill community service, she volunteers at the local old folks home where a chance meeting with a resident will change both of their lives forever. Cranky 80-year-old disabled Erik? I love this little goblin so much. You will too.
Saved From Solitude: Feeling anxious and unable to sleep in his own house, Erik spends the night in Christine’s dressing room to get some much needed rest. He’s certain Christine will never find out—as long as he wakes up on time. Erik may seem tall, dark, and imposing, but he’s actually the sweetest sleepy old man with a cane. I want to tuck him into bed myself. Bonus total BAMF Christine!
Scuffle in Box Five: The Ghost had requested that Box Five be kept empty, but on the night of Mlle Daae's first performance, Box Five is most certainly not empty. There is popcorn in this fic and it just makes it ten times funnier.
And Ask Me To Open Up The Gate For You: Christine Daae has tried every trick in the book to achieve the clear complexion she so desires, and all without result—every trick, that is, except for one. She can’t do it on her own, but perhaps her beloved Maestro will be able to lend his assistance in the matter. In progress as of 01/09/2023. This one is so innovative and different! POTO London Christine Alternate Holly Anne Hull’s Instagram Story had a callout for long-term acne solutions, and turns out a few people told her to go get pregnant to achieve clear skin :D
First Impressions: Erik takes Christine to his home and the cape flip goes awry. BLESS YOUR HEART ERIK!!!
Just Us Two: The day after the performance, Christine spends the day with her son, just like she promised. A beautiful, poignant continuation of Love Never Dies focused on mother and son.
Like Everyone Else: Mr. Y has cracked the code of blending in to society. At least, he thinks he has. LND-inspired crack. Just hysterical. Honestly how could anyone argue against Erik moving to New York, it’s plot-powering gold!
Mr. Y’s Christmas Surprise: Erik accidentally and inadvertently invents the ugly Christmas sweater. SEE COMMENTS ABOVE
Joyeuses Pâques (sans masque): Erik tries to celebrate Easter with his family on Coney Island—and what better way to celebrate than with a visit from the Easter Bunny? Guys just a reminder that Christine moved across the ocean to live with this guy, so.
My Three Eriks: Erik doesn’t actually speak in the third person. OR “What do you mean James Gant and James Hume aren’t the same person” Shit gets too real in the lair, and it’s laugh out loud funny.
The Nanny: College dropout Christine Dee lands what appears to be a dream job in taking care of a reclusive rich man’s seven year old boy. As she settles into her new life, however, she discovers a mysterious secret about her boss’s former wife that threatens to unravel everything. Modern AU. Definitely Gerik. Very relatable and insecure Christine. Very funny too. It’s a thrilling murder mystery and it’s very hard to stop reading once you start.
Baby Shark: Erik is haunted by a certain song his neighbor is playing. Modern AU. I thought this was going to be a crack!fic but I was profoundly moved by it. Both Erik and Christine are a hot mess. A very refreshing take!
Honolulu Sun: After two years of relative isolation during the pandemic, Christine is a little chattier than usual with a strange masked man in the grocery store. I’m more than a little bit obsessed with this one. Give me all the Gustave Sr./Erik bonding!!!
Boulevard of Broken Dreams: Wealthy Opera Populaire patron Raoul de Chagny has been kidnapped and the Opera managers have been receiving threatening letters regarding emerging star Christine Daaé. Private Investigators Erik and Antoinette have been called in to get to the bottom of what's going on, which means they'll have to be keeping a close eye on the safety of the young soprano. It really is a shame, then, that Erik seems to hate Christine who in turn seems horrified of Erik - but things aren't always what they seem. Film Noir AU. Big sweeping fic. Angles that haven’t been explored before. And an Erik that deserves to be seen!

WIP Tag Game
Rules: Post the names of all the files in your WIP folder, regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous. Let people send you an ask with the title that most intrigues them, and then post a little snippet or tell them something about it! Then tag as many people as you have WIPs.
I was tagged by both @meilas and @achillmango, who are such lovely people! I can only assume they must not have seen the last time I was tagged for this and had 48 WIPs to list. And that was 2021, so I've got so many more now!
In the interest of brevity, I have decided to just go through my POTO WIP document, where I've put snippets and ideas that are not long enough to be their own document yet. Enjoy!

Epilogue - 3 Years Later
[E/C / Post-LND / Domestic Fluff, Angst, WWI AU/ Fic length: 100k]
Her heart raced as the melody evolved, the minor key easily overstepping the melody, taking over. Darkness and chaos. She wanted to slam down the piano cover, to scream, "Stop!" but she sat on her hands, her jaw clenched. The storm in his eyes was in full gale force, the veins and muscles in his neck strained. She could picture him, suddenly, in the heat of battle, knee-deep in mud and sound, unable to see which way was up.
She felt suffocated by the melody, unable to take much more, when it broke. The sound radiated through the room as the melody came back, but bolstered by a matching harmony, decimating the minor notes until they were but a memory. Beatrice gasped for a breath she didn't realize she was holding in, cleansed by the sound. Gustav leaned back as he played, letting the downpour of notes wash over him, too. His eyes closed, his fingers moving of their own accord. The music was victorious, all sound unifying in one single sound. The harmonies began to fade out one by one, until only the first melody was left. It eventually faded too, the last major key ending with hope.
Beatrice hadn't noticed the tears on her face until the piano stopped ringing. She wiped at one, still staring at the keys. "What...

DNF/Georgebur PotO & LND AU
Okay, to begin with, thank you so so much for giving me the chance to blab about this @dtvibez because I’ve always wanted to work with this AU, but I’ve just never had the characters to do it with and my musical nerd heart is thriving right now. Alright, anywhodilydo, geek-out over, let’s get into it - just a warning kiddos, this is gonna be a long one so strap in and hold on...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Roles
To start off, let’s address the roles here for how I believe these plots would fit best with the characters involved - it’s purely up to individual interpretation, but these are my thoughts as an in-depth lover of these musicals.
Obviously, our dear George is the leading lady Christine Daae in this story, that was pretty much a given - let’s just be honest here guys, he’s the simp-bait through and through and if that wasn’t Christine, I don’t know what was. Meg - Christine’s friend - and her mother Madame Giry I’m going to combine and make Fundy for reasons I shall disclose later in this post, and Sapnap will have a role to discuss later down the line too, just lemme get there. Now as for the love interests, I can easily say that Eric/The Phantom is Dream and Raoul is Wilbur in this situation. Some of you might be questioning why it wouldn’t be switched because Raoul was her childhood friend and Eric was a gifted musician, but I have answers for you ahead on that, don’t you worry~ ;)
Phantom of the Opera Arc
After studying under Dream - or the Nightmare of the Opera as people prefer to call him - for years to be the star singer he was always destined to be, George is finally granted the chance to do so when some strings are pulled behind the scenes to give him a leading role in an opera. There isn’t anything George wouldn’t do for his Angel of Music after giving him such a chance at success, and Dream is practically preening with pride over how astounding his Georgie has turned out to be. Before Dream can whisk George away in triumph, however, his childhood friend Wilbur shows up out of the blue to shower him in praise and remind him of the puppy love they shared as children before George moved to the opera house. George is smitten with nostalgia, to say the least - it’s nice to put a face to the affection for once.
Needless to say, Dream is hardly pleased with this turn of events and actively tries to keep George not only away from Wilbur, but also to himself because George is quite literally all he has in the world - not even his music can compare to how much George means to him. Of course, the way he goes about this is hardly morally right and only serves to drive George further and further away from him and into Wilbur’s arms as a safe haven from all of the horrors. In the end, though, even after so much heartbreak and all the terrible things Dream’s done to keep him hostage as his muse and love, George finds it in his heart to forgive him for being how the world made him to be and genuinely offers to give up his freedom if it means he won’t be alone in that darkness anymore and Wilbur won’t die.
As expected, Dream realizes he really can’t do that George when it comes down to it - he simply loves him too much to force him to stay if it means he’d wind up hating him for it in the end. He’d rather let him be free and live the life he’s been dreaming of with Wilbur than have him stay and live the rest of his life resenting him. Even so, George is surprisingly hesitant to leave and can only offer to return the wedding ring Dream gifted him as a final goodbye and a silent show of his remaining love for him before he let’s him go in return and goes off with Wilbur. Following that night, Dream disappears from the opera house altogether, never to be heard from again...
Love Never Dies Arc - *SPOILERS*
...Or so the story goes in Paris 10 years ago. Little did anyone know, Fundy actually helped Dream steal away from the opera house when the mobs came searching for him and was unyieldingly by his side as they made their way to America for a fresh start. Once there, Dream - with a little seedy behind-the-scenes help from Fundy - founded a successful side show on Coney Island where he and others like him such as Sapnap and Punz - Miss Fleck and Dr. Gangle - are able to live freely and are treated with respect for their unique traits. Fundy has actually taken to training under Dream to be a successful singer in his own right with a well-known show in the attraction, his only goal to gain Dream’s favor and hopefully prove he’s able to replace George in his life. Dream unsurprisingly has no interest in anything of the sort and still actively mourns the loss of his muse - not even his music brings him joy anymore because it only reminds him of what could’ve been, and Fundy will never be his Georgie despite how much he insists otherwise.
But Dream is a clever thing, and he winds up securing a contract for George - who is now married to Wilbur and is raising a 10-year-old son with him - to come perform at the side show for one last performance. George takes the contract with little to no thought as to the odd pseudonym on the paperwork because Wilbur has lost himself to gambling and alcohol over the years, and they’re desperate for money to survive. At first, George is irate and somewhat heartbroken to learn that Dream’s been alive after all these years, especially after how their lives have turned out following the one night of passion they shared before he disappeared. He admits he still loved Dream when he left and would’ve gone with him, but because he thought they couldn’t be happy and left without him, that ship has long since sailed. They both wish things could have been different, but also accept that what happened happened and all they can do now is move forward with the choices they’ve made.
Much to everyone’s immense shock, though, George’s son is actually Dream’s and not Wilbur’s - a fact which Dream deduces on his own after connecting the dots between his age and musical prowess. Unfortunately, the child is terrified of Dream’s true face just as George once was and after getting the truth confirmed about the child’s real parentage, he begs for him to never know. George ultimately blames himself for what’s happened, and although he can’t take back not telling Dream of their child and the fear said child feels toward him, he swears to perform for him one last time to make up for it before they return to Paris to avoid hurting him further. Meanwhile, Dream vows everything he’s worth in the world to be the child’s once he’s gone even if he can’t be his father, and Fundy isn’t happy to hear that in the slightest because he will have nothing after all the sacrifice he’s made for Dream. All of the sleazy deals and late nights in his dressing room plying people for Dream’s success, and he will get nothing - his mind is just too fragile to face that reality at this point without doing something rash.
Naturally, Wilbur has no clue about any of this at first and makes a drunken deal with Dream regarding George - if George sings for him, he and the child will stay with Dream and Wilbur will leave. If George doesn’t sing, he and the child will leave with Wilbur with all of their debts wiped away as not to burden their family further with his problems. Wilbur then proceeds to try his best to convince George to stay with him by using nostalgia yet again since he now knows who the child belongs to as well, but in the end, George realizes that although he may have loved Wilbur at one time, his love for Dream transcends all that and has never once wavered despite everything they’ve been through. Throughout everything, Dream has always been there waiting for him and wants nothing more than for George and their child to have the life they deserve - Wilbur lost all of that a long time ago. George makes his choice, and Wilbur leaves as promised with the acceptance that he while no longer makes George happy, Dream does and he’ll take care of him - but the child, however, leaves with a distraught Fundy seeking to “right his problems.”
They manage to catch up to Fundy in time to avoid disaster, but not completely as he still views George as the reason he could never be happy with Dream and winds up fatally shooting him in the midst of a mental breakdown. Dream can do nothing but hold George - the man he loved and was finally loved by in return  - as it’s revealed to the child who his real father is, only for him to flee the scene in horror of the truth. For once, Dream is at a loss for what to do because there isn’t any more time for them to have their happy ending and he hasn’t any idea what to do about their child without George. In his dying moments, George soothingly reminds him of one simple fact: Love never dies, and the best thing he can do is just live and give everything he can for both himself and the child now as all they have is each other. With a final kiss, George slips away and a sobbing Dream is left cradling his body when the child and Wilbur - who he ran to find to help George after he was shot - arrive on the scene.
Dream isn’t cruel. He understands how Wilbur must feel in the same situation, so he allows him to mourn the loss of George in his own way with the child as he contemplates whether or not he can continue on. While he debates what to do with himself, the child slowly comes to him unafraid and willing to face the man he now knows to be his father in a new light. In his eyes, Dream can see George, and that’s more than enough for him to stay just a little longer in the world.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sorry if that’s a lot to process and read through, but it was a lot to get out and I wanted to be crystal clear on things as not to confuse people. This is for the most part just hitting the main plot points of the musicals, however, tweaking and adjustments and further deep-dive analyses can be done now that I’ve gotten the main idea out of the way. I definitely don’t want to stick too strictly to it myself and want to tailor it more to the SMP events and characters, but I’ll save that for later since it’s already super late and I should be writing my fic instead.
Happy writing kiddos, thank you for letting me indulge myself with this concept and I hope you enjoyed it~ <3

Which POTO musical song is the most Reylo
Well, I’m sure we can all agree that it’s Too Easy to score the entire lift convo+throne room sequence with Point of No Return up to and including the proposal/unmasking, because wow, that works.
So, curve ball: Ben’s proposal is a song sung by Erik in the Ken Hill musical:
Ne'er forsake me, here remain,Share with me my dark domain!Beautiful flower of maiden kind,Here in the bower where our love’s enshrined.Give me your loving care,Oh free me from this dark despair. Tender scion of Philomel,Here in the shadows weave your magic spell.My maid of music, weave your magic spell…Why don’t you swear here to join me,Where I can call you mine forever?
Also. We won’t speak of the plot adaptation because it’s pretty ridiculous, but some A+ songs in this version.
And actually, fuck it, we’re going there: I’m laughing really hard right now about how well LND’s ‘the night we had sex’ song works with the hand touch.
Christine:I stole to your side, Tormented by my choice,I couldn’t see your face,Yet trembled at your voice.And I touched you
Erik:And I felt youBoth:And I heard those ravishing refrains
Christine:The music of your pulseErik:The singing in your veins
Christine:And I held youErik:And I touched youChristine:And embraced youErik:And I felt you
Both:And with every breath and every sigh
Christine:I felt no longer scared
Erik:I felt no longer shy
Both:At last our feelings bared,Beneath a moonless sky
Christine:And blind in the dark,As soul gazed into soul,I looked into your heartAnd saw you pure and whole
Erik:Cloaked under the night,with nothing to suppress.A woman and a man,no more and yet no less.
Honestly, this is the best one. The other songs from ALW’s PotO can’t really be taken out of their context, but this is hilariously perfect.

“Erik House” Chapter 8
It was Crawford's turn on the parlour's pipe organ. Since there had been previous disputes over the instrument constant use, they’d had to make up a scheduled allowance of sorts for its use.
His hands caressed the keys as music filled the room.
Kerik took a seat by Lewis and Warlow, watching the older Merik play.
"Nighttime sharpens, heightens each sensation. "Darkness wakes and stirs imagination, "Silently the senses, abandon their defenses. "Helpless to resist the notes I write, "For I compose the music of the night"
As Crawford sang aloud, Kerik raised a brow from beneath his mask. "I've heard you lot sing this a hundred times, why does his sound different?" Kerik asked
"This was an earlier version he wrote, no one else knows it." Warlow stated.
"Close your eyes, for your eyes will only tell the truth. "And the truth isn't what you want to see"
Crawford continued to sing.
"In the dark it is easy to-"
"AAH OHH!"
Crawford's hands faltered on the keys as the organ groaned in protest. Kerik and the other Merik's looked around for the source of the strange noise.
Crawford continued playing, seeming to ignore whatever had just happened.
"Close your eyes start a journey to a strange new world, "Leave all thoughts of the world you knew before. "Close your eyes and let music set you fr-" But Crawford was interrupted yet again.
"Bathing beauty, "Take a look at....YOU!"
They heard the strange sound coming from above them.
"Sweet musics throne! What is THAT?!" Kerik asked.
The other two Meriks glanced uneasily at Crawford, whom they could see was clenching his fists.
"Bathing beauty, on the beach "Bathing beauty, say 'Hello!' "Whatta cutie! "Whatta peach! "Bathing beauty, watch her go!"
They heard it coming from the third floor.
Crawford stood, storming down toward the stairwell.
"Uh oh," Lewis vocalised turning to Warlow. "Go find Jones, NOW"
Kerik scratched his head, "I don't get it. I thought the only one he had a problem with was that talentless tenor Gerik."
Lewis shook his head, "Think about this: if you were the debuter of a show and years later another story comes and throws all of that character development you worked so hard on out the window for vaudeville trash how would you feel?"
Not waiting for a reply the Merik followed Warlow as he made a beeline for Jones room. Dragging Karimloo and Mauer along as well, they found Jones and hustled up to the third floor.
"Dots? Dots? DOTS? DOTS?! DOTS!"
Mr. Y had been sent a copy of the latest dress rehearsal for Phantasma's opening act back in America by Giry.
He mused Dots made much more sense than Checks.
Suddenly he heard a pounding on the door. Confused he stood opening the door to see Crawford fuming, the older Merik looked as though he were going to have an aneurysm.
"What seems to be the problem, monsieur?" Mr. Y asked cautiously. Gerik had already told him about the ambush this man and the others had established.
"The problem is whatever that insufferable caterwauling is!" Crawford scowled,
Mr. Y sighed, "Now I know what you're going to say-"
"Oh do you now? I've composed symphonies, let music consume me day and night, did the impossible and completed my masterpiece. And you have the gall to insinuate that years later THIS is what comes from the same composer that wrote 'Don Juan Triumphant?!'" Crawford ranted. Despite the height difference the Merik seemed to tower over the much taller man with his outrage. "
Fortunately the others were able to pull Crawford back before he could reach for the lasso and risk doing something rash.
Karimloo held Crawford back pinning his arms back.
"Unhand me this instant!" The older Merik demanded, it was rare to see him fuming so. Almost frightening even.
Jones attempted to calm his friend down, helping lead the Meriks out of the room. "Now now, there's no need for anymore violence-we’ve done enough of that in the past. Just calm yourself Crawford, remember your blood pressure-"
"TO HELL WITH MY BLOOD PRESSURE!"
Mr. Y then made a mental note to sound proof the room that day forward. --
The carriage pulled up to the house's main gate, a lone figure stepped out thanking the driver.
The man had been advised this was the right address to find the masked man. Having been told the door would be left unlocked, he turned the doorknob.
"Erik?" He called. "Erik, you're a poor host playing this game of hide and-AHHHHH!"
From upstairs the shriek could be heard even up on the third floor.
"Allah above! What nightmare have I been thrown into?!" The Persian man gaped, entering a parlour room finding not one but five masked men. While they're masks and appearances differed from Erik, they held a similar air of sophistication and dominance.
Carpenter and Gaines stared quizzically at the man.
"Who...is he exactly?" Gaines asked. “I feel like I should know him?”
Capenter shook his head, "I'm not sure. But I feel like we're missing something very important?"
Lerik stared blankly at Daroga, whom was babbling rather fast in Persian. This man seemed familiar.
"I know that language anywhere!" Trotting down the stairs Kerik made a beeline for the parlour. "Really! All this time I thought you were never going to-"
But the novelised man paused when he saw the dark skinned man.
"Wait, you're not Nadir. You sound like him, but somethings not the same." His yellow eyes looked the man up and down. Daroga shuddered inwardly as Kerik smirked. “Hmm”
"I say stop hounding him, all of you!" The others whipped their heads toward the sound of Erik's voice as he slowly trudged up the basement stairs.
"E-Erik?" Daroga said, marching over to the masked man. "It...It is you right?"
Erik swatted Daroga's hand away as he rolled his golden eyes.
"Of course it's me you great booby!" The full masked man said as if it were obvious. "Now come along! I need you to take a look at something."
Following him down the stairs, the Persian man hesitantly glanced back at the others whom stared right back as he went down to the basement floor.
"I still want to know who he is!" Gaines blurted out. -- Kerik felt Ayesha rub up against his leg mewing up at him as he played.
  "It's my turn," Warlow noted to the novelized man.
"I'm almost finished, don't get your bowtie in a twist," Kerik teased
"You said you were almost finished ten minutes ago!"
Reading the Epoque with one leg crossed over the other, Panaro sat with Soot peacefully curled up in front of him.
As Ayesha continued mewing, the labradoodle's head perked up. The dog stood and trotted over to Ayesha in curiosity. he Siamese stared up at the new, giant, fluffy presence. Soot was massive in comparison, but Ayesha did not scare easy and the labradoodle was no threat.
"Hey," Kerik picked Ayesha up, noticing the dog as well. "Leave my little lady alone."
Panaro turned his head, "Oi, my dog wouldn't hurt a hair on your cat. Let him be."
Soot sat watching the cat with wide, dark eyes. He scooted closer, sniffing her face.
Ayesha didn't seem to like her personal space invaded and reached out. Neither Kerik or Panaro could suppress a chuckle watching a five pound Siamese boop a large labradoodle playfully on the nose.
--
Several miles away, the Daroga heaved a sigh leaning over the table.
"So there were six of him?" Nadir asked,
He nodded as the other Persian man shuddered.
"Lord, one is difficult enough." Nadir shook his head, reflecting back on Kerik's outragous antics.
Ledoux silently nodded, agreeing with the other two men, Lerik could be quite the handful despite the man not uttering a word.
"Another round gentlemen?" The bartender asked. Everytime the three Persian men got together here, it seemed to be under stressful circumstances. He wondered often what troubled these men so. Perhaps it was family related.
"It's on me tonight," Nadir declared, "I feel somewhat responsible for not warning you prior to your visit."
Ledoux made a series of hand gestures and leaned back in his chair with his hands clasped together.
"He apologises as well," Nadir explained.
The three men raised a glass.
"To a maskless Erik free evening," Daroga toasted.
"Here here," Nadir agreed, Ledoux remaining silent but clinking his glass with a curt nod.
On the other side of the pub, the Persian men failed to notice Destler glancing in their direction quizzically.
"Another monsieur?" The lady asked, breaking Destler's concentration as she took his empty glass.
Shrugging his shoulders and turning back to his latest composition Destler nodded.
"Please," He answered, continuing his work.
-The version of “Music of the Night” Crawford sings is from the promo video for the musical back in 1986. As far as I’m aware there arn’t many Phantoms that have sung this version, or at least I haven’t heard any.
-Crawford’s hatred of LND is slight Actor Allusion as it stems from an interview Michael did a few years ago. While he didn’t directly say he hated the sequel when asked he didn’t seem to like the idea of Phantom continuing when the ending was just fine the way it was.
-The Dots and Checks remark is due to the OLC recording of LND has Meg wearing a checkered bathing suit at the finale of “Bathing Beauty” whereas the Australian version (and the version my Mr. Y comes from) used dots.
-Michael Crawford stands at 5′10 wheras Ben Lewis stands at a whopping 6′2 (many of the popular Phantoms are fairly tall, Crawford is an exception and Wilkinson at 5′8)
-Yes Daroga (Leroux), Nadir (Kay), and Inspector Ledoux (1925 film) are three seperate men as the Eriks and Christines are separate.

Fathers Day POTO Fics
In honor of father’s day, here’s a collection of fics about Erik parenting and/or being parented!
The Nanny by Mertens
The single father Erik AU we’ve all been waiting for, where Christine is hired as the nanny for Gustave by his strange masked father. Christine does get along with Gustave and he seems to have a good relationship with his father, but there’s something about Erik that just seems off... E/C, currently updating!
Second Chances by SloaneDestler
A pregnant Christine seeks shelter from her teacher, and for the sake of her unborn child they decide to marry. Definitely just because of that and no other reason. E/C, lots of mutual pining, just completed!
Little Boy Lost by DivineVarod
Christine confronts Erik over his refusal to play with his son. Featuring an Erik who really does love his son but has no idea how to interact with children, something I wish we saw more of. Married E/C, oneshot.
Tiny Angel by FaunaProductions
Cherik is a dad and that’s the fic! There’s only one chapter but I’m already in love (and Gerard, as expected, is a bad grandfather). There’s actually no Christine in this one, but maybe she could show up in the future?
It’s In Your Soul by BozBozBoz
A complete LND rewrite with a Gustave who resembles his father in appearance, a Christine who faked her death to leave the marriage with Raoul and is now a travelling singer, and Erik who is running Phantasma and doing his best to not kidnap somebody but still try and support his family. E/C.
Something Immortal by MulticoloredRosePetals
Kay based E/C, where Erik while constructing the opera house takes in a pregnant and ill Christine. It’s a kind of unique case where their relationship isn’t built off of music, just care and compassion, but it’s something they can discover later.
The Boy by madamefaust
This list would not be complete without at least ONE fic by madamefaust, the leading authority in Cherik father related angst. Have fun with this collection of stories about Gerard being a slightly less terrible father than usual, but things are still very sad.
The Source of the Blame by aldonza
Giovanni learns about some of the past difficulties that Erik has faced. Namely, the pedophilia, and he is not okay with his adopted son suffering like this. Lots of hurt comfort, and in this AU things would have never gone wrong with Lucinda because it’s a catalyst for Giovanni to step up to the plate as a father.
For Educational Purposes Only by Xix Crane
Post LND. Gustave wants to go see the dinosaurs at the museum, but Erik never leaves Phantasma. At least, he never leaves during the day... Pure family fluff, an AU where Christine lives but she’s mainly in the background because the focus is on father-son BONDING.
Wandering Son by sarahandmarquis
Post poto, Erik returns to Italy and reconciles with Giovanni. I sadly have seen very little of this and I ADORE it, they’re both crying and apologizing and trying to figure out how to be a family again.
