A Japanese commercial featuring four designers from Memphis Milano, namely Ettore Sottssas, Andrea Branzi, Michele De Lucchi and George Sowden for Seibu, a chain of department stores.
Another tidbit, the music for the commercial was composed by Haroumi Hosono of YMO.
So I love the post-modern furniture movement and I was very inspired by a cow print table that in the style of Memphis Milano, which was an international group of designers and artists that came together for several years in the 1980s in Milan that created much of the bright, super geometric visual language that still informs a lot of design motifs today!
This is also something that I made for an Second Life hunt that I am in July and if you would like to own the first swatch, the traditional cow print, the item will be in my Marketplace store.

Chronicle Books is an innovative publisher of high-quality illustrated books on design, food, literature, collectibles, pop culture, and travel. At the American Booksellers Association Show, Chronicle sought to convey they are a publisher who “sees things differently.” Our solution for the publisher’s 30' x 30' cross-aisle exhibit represented a striking departure from the typical rows of bookshelves and backlit light boxes attendees normally walk right by, instead creating a retail-like environment which invites visitors to come in, pick up the books, and linger. Each display represented the values Chronicle stood for, using a giant gear, ladder, staircase, and abstract figure as metaphors for work, progress, attainment, and humanity.
These symbolic elements combined to form a highly engaging environment for attendees, using a Constructivist aesthetic and simple, industrial materials to create a “machine” for the display of books. Natural maple and galvanized aluminum panels provide the ideal neutral backdrops to highlight Chronicle’s colorful collection. The eye-catching tradeshow became a must-see for show attendees, as the booth broke new ground in what a booksellers booth could be, and what an exhibit could convey about a company. The distinctive exhibit helped the San Francisco-based publisher stand out within the New York dominated publishing industry as a firm who “sees things differently,” and was instrumental to creating a unique market niche for the specialty publisher.
For this chapter we discussed postmodernism and defined it as a scope of the changing conditions of knowledge and human subjectivity in the late twentieth century. Three topics stemmed: irony, parody, and pastiche. Postmodernism focuses on globalization, lacking trust in science and technology, surveillance and social control, and lacking trust in truth. Grand narratives that are implemented are doubted by postmodernism. Instead, it promotes relativism and fragmentation.
In postmodern design, its aim is to multiply instead of bringing together. My interpretation of this chapter heavily revolves around irony. The uses of irony are how we see postmodernism's critique of modern design. This idea of seeing outside the box is important for us all to see different perspectives yet decide based on our own beliefs. By using satire as an example, I chose Boston's old State House. The building remains in a bully of a city that engulfs its culture and in a way demands change. The change of technology and traditions are always controversial but this picture proves that tradition triumphs change.
the hemicycle on the kirchberg plateau is an incredibly futuristic building that is somewhat hidden in the middle of the kirchberg forest. it looks like a film set for a dystopian film, so overgrown and lonely it stands on the road. fun fact: the european parliament, for which the building was originally built, only met four times in this building.
