kids who werent raised christian being like "lol baptising children is whack if they tried to do that to me i would start doing things to make it look like i was possessed" no you would not. you would bask in the pride and approval coming from the adults around you and you would quietly wait your turn because you were told from birth that sinning sends you to hell and baptism is The Promise that youre dedicating your life to jesus that youve had hyped up for years and watched other people be fawned over as they cry happy tears about it and you do NOT want to fuck up your One Big True Promise To Love Jesus Forever So You Don't Get Tortured For Eternity when you are literally 8 years old. im begging yall to remember its a thousand times easier to see the church's bullshit for what it is when you're not actively in the church. eight year old you is not thinking about trying to fight back against an oppressive religious group indoctrinating children because You Are The Children Being Indoctrinated. stop acting like you would've magically known better if it were you.

If a transgender person asks you to deadname and misgender them in front of certain people. Misgender them and deadname them in front of those people. It doesn't matter how icky or gross it may feel, it doesn't matter you'd rather be honest. It doesn't matter if there's more of you there. Certain people aren't safe, and honesty IS NOT the best policy when honesty could put them at serious risk. It doesn't matter if there's a crowd, because when there isn't shit goes down.
Be an ally, do what they ask. Understand that the trans person knows more about their situation than you do, and this includes who's safe and who's not. Some one can be "trans friendly" to other people, but not to people they know or specific people. Do as the trans person asks, yes it's uncomfortable, but it's 10 times worse if the person we don't trust finds out. 100 times worse if they have access to us when you're not around.
Respect trans peoples safety. Misgender and deadname when asked.

honest hearts should have let you cover joshua graham in tar and set him on fire and throw him in the grand canyon again and explicitly state that it's because he's a Mormon. i think that would have improved that dlc a tiny bit. still would suck, but a lil bit more self awareness of the relationship between mormons and indigenous Americans (by having everyone set fire to mormons and explain the history and reasoning behind such an action directly into the camera) would have gone a long way.

nevermos are like "why do so many mormons end up writing scifi and fantasy, it's such a weird correlation" meanwhile mormons grow up learning this:

so much of Mormonism is just being signed up for things without your permission. Things that require your time, energy, money, effort are just expected of you, and god forbid you don’t live up to that expectation. I’m constantly shamed into callings, activities, ministering, seminary, etc. Hell, even my goddamn baptism wasn’t something I consented to- I was eight and barely knew anything about religion, let alone given a choice on whether to be baptized or not. I’ll never forget my mom screaming at me while I sobbed hysterically because I turned down to be part of the young women’s presidency. I’m so sick of being signed up for shit without my consent.

i wanna clear something up to nevermos real quick: most mormons don’t look at the full picture of their religion. most mormons are not being openly racist or zionistic or homophobic. most mormons don’t practice what they preach. most mormons do their daily readings and prayers and think about their church the way they’re supposed to, but most mormons don’t fully comprehend it. most mormons are cult victims who genuinely want to to what’s best in the way they believe is right. while racism, zionism, homophobia etc. are unavoidable in the scriptures, this doesn’t mean they understand what is being taught. those who do understand it often don’t support those specific parts of the scripture and speak out against them. many outsiders seem to forget mormons are their own individual people.
hate the church, not the person

One element of cultural Christianity that took me forever to move on from is the idea that you have to pick one spiritual path, or one set of spiritual beliefs, and stay on that path to the exclusion of everything else.
You do not.
Speaking from a pagan perspective, most pagan groups not only allow but encourage sharing space with/learning from other spiritual traditions, and I know the same is also true for a lot of other non-Christian religions. You can practice or believe multiple things, even if they seem to contradict each other! If it works for you, makes you feel connected to something greater than yourself, and doesn't cause discomfort or cognitive dissonance, there's no reason not to include it in your practice!
Fyi this post isn't just for ex-Christians who still want to have a spiritual practice. I absolutely see this same basic belief that you can only believe/do one thing show up in culturally Christian atheists who seem to think being atheist means they can't be open to spiritual or mystical experiences. There are many, many religions and spiritual traditions that do not require belief in a God, but culturally Christian atheists seem to mostly believe atheism and spirituality are mutually exclusive. They aren't.

god was absolutely not on my man’s side while he was alive like wow idk what’s worse: having your death be spent in a hell of semi-consciousness for 150 something years or having some random probably schizophrenic dude be more well remembered than you 😭

current exmormon, born and raised Mormon, my ancestors like… founded the church, literally couldn’t be more Mormon heritage wise… but WHAT do you mean FBI agents. I need an excess of details sources and info ASAP. this is the first I’m ever hearing of this and I’d love all the dirty laundry if you’re willing to share
The FBI and a bunch of other federal agencies have been recruiting heavily from Mormon communities for the better part of a hundred years. Every article I've read about it always claims that that desirability stems from a lot of Mormons speaking multiple languages due their missionary work in other countries, or their aversion to alcohol and drugs, and general lack of vices that intelligence agencies try to avoid in recruits. In my opinion though they overlook a major factor, which is Mormonism's borderline deification of the US.
Mormonism wouldn't exist without the settler violence exhibited against the natives with the backing of the US government, it was founded by settlers on lands violently stolen from its former inhabitants, and the literal demonization of the indigenous peoples of the US is - to my understanding - a cornerstone belief of Mormonism. So Mormonism is in effect a formal adoption of Manifest Destiny as religious and cultural doctrine on a level that even evangelicals don't envision it to be.
Like, the colonization of the Americas obviously turned all settlers into agents of genocide, subjugation, and displacement. Every Christian denomination incorporated every violent excess of the frontier into its preaching and practice in some way or other, but Mormonism took that violence and made it sacrosanct, made it a bedrock belief in its theology. So, if you believe that the violence enacted by the US on your behalf was and is Mandated By God, then you might feel compelled to join an extension of the state, to become an instrument of that continued holy violence.

As someone who isn’t even the primary caretaker + has other adults around to help, after staying home with 2 small children for one week I don’t know how tradwives don’t kill their husbands who don’t help around the house. If I cook and you can’t even wash the dishes I’ll start planning homicide
