i am going to tell a story and it’s gonna be a bit all over the place because i haven’t even processed it yet but i need someone to know

earlier hal and i were snacking in the kitchen. he was eating oatmeal with dino sprinkles and i was eating popcorn.

as i stared into the popcorn bowl, i was like “remember when people found out bingus was facetuned?” and hal was like “who’s bingus?” so i had him look up bingus, and there were several different bingus edits in the results. hal began scrolling through them, i guess because he was trying to find one to kin. while doing so, i caught sight of a bingus with sunglasses, and i pointed at it and was like “what are they trying to hide?”

when hal clicked on sunglasses bingus to zoom in, he quietly went “ugh… people think sunglasses are cool…” under his breath, in the most derisive tone i’ve ever heard him take. and this is legal name dirk strider hal, my good friend and roommate who wears sunglasses anytime he’s in public hal.

so i was like “who are you and what have you done with hal?” to which he immediately crumpled cataplectically with laughter. i attempted to catch him under the arms, so as to prevent him from hitting the kitchen counter.

while i was still struggling to support his weight, he apparently remembered that his bowl of dino oatmeal was on the counter, and with me still holding him up, he grabbed the spoon and started spooning oatmeal into his mouth. to which i began trying to wrestle the oatmeal away from him (while still supporting his weight) because i think if he collapsed while eating oatmeal he’d be fairly likely to choke (esp considering the rice thing)

i didn’t succeed in getting him away from the oatmeal, but eventually he got his feet under him and could stand again, so there wasn’t any point to stopping him from consuming more oatmeal. so i returned to the subject of whether or not he, dirk halexander strider, had been replaced. i clicked on a ninja bingus with a sword and was like “remember swords? you used to love swords”

he immediately crumpled again, this time forward against the counter, and started coughing into my popcorn bowl

The Veterinarian and the Werewolf - Chapter 8

Word Count: 1879

Warning: trigger - hunting, and demeaning verbal abuse.

Chapter 8

Henry could not understand why Jessie was still considering going out with this jerk. He huffed at Joe’s words and was pleasantly surprised at Tom’s reaction. Pleased to have someone in his corner, he nuzzled into the young man’s arms. It felt nice, an odd feeling of loss and regret pulled at his soul. He hadn’t seen his nephew in five years, he would be fifteen years old now four years younger than Tom. Memories of their last time together flooded his mind, the feel of his hands running through his fur. Even then he had refused to change, sadly his nephew had never known him in Human form.

The packhouse was large, made of local stone it would be considered menacing to outsiders. But for those invited in, it was a house filled with love. They had found Henry and his nephew Adam just outside their forest line, half-starved, dehydrated and desperate for care. The pack doctor had tended to Henry whilst one of the pack's mothers had shared her milk with the little pup. Adam had captured the mother’s heart and at Henry’s approval had adopted him into the pack. Henry had grieved the loss of his only kin but been so grateful to them. He knew he could not look after the little one, not with his heartbroken in pieces.

Over the next ten years, he had come and gone from the house checking up on Adam, watched as he grew strong, not only physically, but emotionally he had developed into a beautiful soul. Their last time together they had sat just like he was now with Tom. He had curled up next to Adam, his head in his lap, Adams fingers running through his fur. “I wish you could change for me Uncle, I see all the other dads and sons playing together and I love the idea that when I change next year we can run together. Then I can finally talk to you and hear your voice back. But I want to know what you look like, to be able to hug you like I see that others hug their dads.” His face had added to Henry’s grief looking so heartbroken and longingly at him. He had tried at that moment, had attempted to honour his request but his human side was so lost, hidden in pain. He had left the house that day, knowing even if it broke his heart, he needed to let his nephew grow with his new pack and not be held back by him.

Now nestled against Tom he regretted that decision. He heard a chuckle soft and happy. “Well look at you two. I would never have guessed Wolfy could be so comfortable with another human. I haven’t seen him like that with anyone except with me. What’s your secret Tom?” Her bright eyes landed on Tom who had continued to scratch behind Henry’s ears.

“I don’t know Miss Jessie, but I have always loved wolves, well any kind of animal really but especially wolves.”

She seemed thoughtful as she eyed them both making Henry wonder what she had planned. “Tom, are you free tonight? I have a date and I really don’t want to leave Wolfy alone again.” Henry felt Tom stiffen. Wondering what was wrong with the request, he moved his head to look up at the boy.

A brief look of disapproval flashed in his eyes before they softened as he looked down and saw Henry watching him. “Yes, Miss Jessie. I would love to spend more time with this beautiful boy.” Internally he chuckled at Tom’s words, if only he knew he was twelve years older than him.

That afternoon Henry, Jessie and Tom spent out in the garden. Tom seemed to fit beautifully into their friendship group kneeling beside Jessie as they planted new flowers and shrubs where they had pulled up the weeds. Together, Henry dug the holes, Tom placed the plants and held them in place whilst Jessie filled the soil around them. Henry enjoyed hearing the light conversation between his Mate and his new friend until it became heavier. “So, Tom, when did you begin to love wolves? I know your father traps them, so I’m interested as to why you don’t follow his belief.”

Tom continued to work, as a gentle hum was heard working up from his throat. “I know why Dad does it, although I don’t think he is correct. He blames the wolves for his loss of cattle, but I haven’t seen that many around. The wild dogs are more to blame but he won't listen. They have a group that meet purely to discuss the wolf problem, but in my whole life, the only large group I have seen was back when I was four. It’s the first and last time Dad allowed me to come to a hunting party. Mom was horrified that he was taking me, but I wanted so much to be with Dad, and he wanted me to be just like him.”

Henry shuddered as the boy spoke as if by some force of nature, he knew that he was about to hear what had happened that day. He also sensed the grief radiating off the boy, wanting to calm him he pushed his body into Tom’s side. Nuzzling his head as if to say, “It's ok, I’m here for you.” Tom let out a heavy chuckle as if he had heard Henry’s voice.

He sat back looking down at Henry as he spoke, “Thanks Wolfy, you would think that I would not remember something that happened that long ago, but it's imprinted in my mind. They had been tracking a pack that had only just entered the area, convinced the rest of the ranchers that they were a risk to our lively hood, that we couldn’t let them nest here. So, the best of their marksman left, when we found them all, sitting around a tree, curled up sleeping, all I wanted to do was go play with the cuddly animals. Dad kept pulling me back holding me still and quiet. I didn’t understand until the loud bangs began.”

Tom’s voice wobbled at this point and Jessie who had been silent up till this time also came closer. She pulled him into her side, her arm encasing his thin body as his shoulders began to shake. “I started screaming as I saw a single wolf with a baby on its back running away, Dad aimed for it but I managed to push the barrel up making him miss. I got the thrashing of my life that night. I couldn’t sit for a week, but it was worth it. I was never allowed to come again after that, not that I wanted to. It took a while, but Dad eventually began to trust me enough to check the traps. I am glad too because it meant I could help this fella.”

Jessie held the boy as his sobs subsided. Henry was trying to hold his anger in, these were the people who had destroyed his family. And yet this one boy had not only saved him once but twice, his gratitude was the only thing stopping him from wanting to go rip the throats out of the group. Ignorance and fear were the driving forces that ended his family, if only they knew the wolves would only ever take a sick animal, and sometimes the young, never the strength of the herd. They would never kill without need. But the wild dogs he had seen were giving us a bad name.

Jessie's voice interrupted his thoughts, the softness not hiding the grief in her own. “Was that near here Tom?” How did Jessie know?

“Yes, Miss Jessie, by the tall tree in the middle of the forest.”

She silently picked up the tools, both animal and human watching her, wondering what she was thinking. Sighing she stood up, “Come, it’s getting dark and I need to get ready for this date.” She walked silently back into the house. The boy and the wolf looked at each other before both followed.

Jessie fixed dinner for Tom and Henry then left to dress, leaving the pair to their own devices. Tom seemed quiet after revealing his early childhood trauma and Henry was eager to help calm the boy. After eating, he plodded into the living room, jumped up on the couch and yipped in Tom’s direction. Chuckling, Tom responded, “You want to watch some TV boy?” Nuzzling the remote, he yipped eagerly hoping to distract the boy from his thoughts.

Tom settled next to him and picked up the remote, they settled on watching a rerun of M.A.S.H before they both heard the clicking of heels and the rapping of knuckles on the front door. Open-mouthed both Henry and Tom sat dumbstruck as Jessie walked down the stairs in a light yellow sundress her dark hair flowing softly twisted into waves. “Wow Miss Jessie, you look amazing” got in first before Henry followed with his eager Yip. Giggling Jessie smiled softly at them both, “Ok I won't be out late, but even so, don’t get up to any mischief��

This caused both Henry and Tom to laugh, one sounding more like a series of yips. The door opened and closed and Jessie was gone. Together the two sat, watched movies and shared some popcorn that Tom had found in the pantry. Just as the end of a Witcher episode finished they heard yelling coming from outside. “I don’t give a dam Boyd, you had no right to hit that poor man, It was an accident.” The front door opened as Jessie stormed inside, the front of her dress had a brown stain down the side of her skirt.

Next Boyd came crashing into the room his face red as he reached out to grab Jessie's arm, this caused Henry to jump into action his snarl reaching the ears of the big man before he saw the wolf racing towards him. Jumping back almost stumbling over the kitchen chair Boyd’s face grew hotter, “Keep that mutt controlled Jessie otherwise I’ll control him for you with my shot Gun.”

The air went still as Henry felt Jessies and Tom's hands on him, “That is enough Boyd Hatfield, you are no longer welcome in this home. Get. Out!” Surprise filled Boyd’s face as he not only recognised Tom but registered his marching orders. Menace replaced the look of surprise, “Listen here little girl, you better watch that attitude of yours. I’ll allow you to cool off but we are not finished talking, and if you value the life of that mutt you will do as your told.” Punctuating the statement with a nod of his head he turned and strolled out the door.

Heart pounding he turned looking up at Jessie who seemed to have lost her speech, her face pale and her hands shaking. Tom moved swiftly pulling her into his arms as she began to cry, frustrated that it wasn’t his arms holding her, Henry pushed his body against her to show he was there, but inside he was furious. That man had threatened not just himself but Jessie, but he had to focus on her right now, she was more important no matter how much he wanted to go after him.

Baby Sam is very hard working and focused on whatever she's doing that sometimes, she forgets to take care of herself. So, I see Sugawara Koushi with her perfectly, someone caring and understanding, but knows better than to let her overwork and tells her when enough is enough. The both of you do struggle with a few things, and when you fight or have insecure moments, you sit down to talk about it instead of shouting at each other. Overall, a really good match I say.

I actually had a hard time with Ms. Zizi. See, I haven't interacted with her much. But, based on the interactions of hers that I see on my tl, I can see that she is very playful but also can be serious. Hence, why I say that she'd be amazing with Kuroo Tetsurou. Kuroo is playful and an overall gremlin, but he's very caring ang knows exactly when to be serious and how serious. He'll help her with anything he can help her with, but he also knows when no to because it's something Zizi needs to do for herself. Likewise, Zizi knows when to be cheery to make Kuroo smile, but also when to sit and talk to Kuroo about a delicate matter. They'd both ground each other, while matching the same playful energy.

Ah, Adult Sam. Hmmm. Adult Sam is a whirlwind of chaos and sweet, sweet angst. I definitely see them with darling Yamaguchi Tadashi. Melian and Matsukawa Issei would make a very interesting pairing. Both independent yet still co-dependent on each other. Melian knows how to calm Matsukawa after a tough day at work, and Matsukawa knows how to keep Melian from stressing. Matsukawa would also hype Melian up so much?? Fictional Crush Series No.7

Have we made it to the 90′s yet? We have!

What’s this you say? The Outlander series didn’t premier until 2014? Well! There just happens to be an antiquated technology called books in with this particular tale was first created.

Let me set the scene. It’s 1993. I’m at the library with my dad. I feel like I’ve read the entire YA section, and I’ve run out of David Eddings and Anne McCaffery books to read. I complain to my dad that I have sucked this library dry. He reaches into the Returned Today Shelf of unsorted books and grabs one at random. “Here, you haven’t read this yet.” It was this, a first edition copy of Outlander:

Perhaps he though it was an historical novel set in the highlands. It kind of is...?

To prove to him that plucking ugly books at random off the shelf was no was to pick a quality read, I read it. First came intrigue, then delight, then fascination and compulsion, then welling tides of love and lust, and the feels! So many feels!

For those very few who are still unfamiliar with the Outlander universe, it’s a genre-bending book and series, especially the first three books, combining historical fiction, time travel, romance, blood, gore, sexual violence, medical ickiness, touches of mythical fantasy and magic, mystery, and a big slabbing helping of hot sexy sex.

Oh, and this hunk of red-blooded, red-haired Scot!

That means “I am ready” for everyone who doesn’t read French or hasn’t read the book. I was 15. I was ready. My parents may have disagreed if they had known what was behind that twee bookcover.

James Alexander Malcolm McKenzie Fraser, Jamie to some, and JAMMF to the old school fandom. Oh course, now we have Sam Heughan to envision Jamie as, but back in the day we used a read words off a page and picture Jamie et al in our minds. I don’t think they did a bad job of casting Jamie. Sam is of course, too short, and his hair is not red enough, but I give it a pass.

What makes Jamie Fraser a worthy subject of a lasting fictional crush that rocked my world? He is an enlightened and modern thinker of the Enlightenment era, meaning that he does still kinda believe in witches and faeries, but also in science, and can eventually be persuaded to not beat his wife for wrongdoing (after a knife to the throat). He is a soldier, a mercenary, an expert swordsman, can ride any horse, even a demonic stallion that no one else can master, a farmer, a landlord, a leader of men, a student of science and progress, a virgin at the beginning of the first book, and a sex-god by the end of it.

Packaged in a 6 foot 6 Viking-esque warrior’s body, like a red-haired, blue-eyed demon set on Earth to sway our time-travelling heroine Claire off the path of marital fidelity. It could be said that he is the ultimate Gary Sue. He does have flaws though, mostly pertaining to pride and being a man of his day, even if he is a progressive one. He is the prototype that launched a thousand Highlander romance novels.

The most singularly swoonworthy thing about Jamie though is how much he loves his woman. The end.

He will single-handedly rescue her from the midst of a witch trial that is in the process of condemning her, even though he’s fairly sure she really is a witch.

He will trade his soul and his body to keep her alive. He will believe the insane truths she tells him, and based on them, betray his kin and his King. What impressionable young hetro woman doesn’t want that level of devotion from her man?

At the opening of the book, Jamie has already been through a lot - imprisonment and two disfiguring floggings, exile, the soldiers life. near starvation, serious head injury, family intrigue, the death of both his parents....and he’s only 22. And yet, Jamie is still fairly optimistic character, aside for when he or his wife are getting tortured, raped, nearly killed etc. He’s not one to wallow unnecessarily in his Man Pain. Until he is, and then grab the popcorn and watch Claire drain the pool.

While we’re here, I’d like to point out a few unexpected treats and differences that I got from the show that I didn’t get from the books.

1) Jamie’s knees

2) The flogging and several other violent scenes that were disturbing enough in the books became Extremely Uncomfortable and Upsetting Viewing. If you’ve seen the show or read the books you probably know what scenes I am talking about.

3) they didn’t hold back on the sex scenes. Many gifs from the various scenes would get this post removed from Tumblr. Many were so hot I was blushing whilst watching it alone. DO NOT WATCH WITH YOUR PARENTS.

I have read all the books of course, though I mainly concentrated on the first one here, the one that spawned my crush. IT was a couple of years before I got my hands on books 2 and 3, and the fourth one hadn’t been written yet (I did get to go to a book signing and have my copy of Drums of Autumn signed by Diana Gabadon, Herself!). My parents remembered my love for the series, unfortunately, and tried watching the TV when it came out. My dad finally saw the error of plucking a book at random from a shelf to give to his 15 year old daughter to read.

Actually (see the edits on previous post), I'm going to first give you a non-Plagueis spleencanon:

"Sheev" is a deadname! And no, this is not a post about Palpatine perhaps being trans (which... is another kettle of fish, one I don't really even want to discuss w/r/t to strict canon.).

Yes, he's absolutely both narratively and objectively a horrible person, but as a matter of basic respect, you don't just deploy bigotry oriented disrespect you otherwise wouldn't to people just because they are "bad". Nor should you go around deciding to ignore cis people's name changes/preferences for whatever reason. If you do, you're sending the message that, should you ever get mad at a trans person, you will potentially use knowledge of their past against them to at least emotional harm. That's not a friendly thing to do!

...and yes, sometimes (NOT as a general rule!) deadnames are complicated. but I, a fool, take microagression hits every time I read a fic that just thoughtlessly puts "Sheev" all over the place with no complexity or consideration.

Wynonna Earp S3 Theory #1

**SO SO MANY SPOILERS **

On what Waverly is and why Bobo lied (and potentially falsified DNA results, who knows) and if Dolls & Jeremy are involved and BBD and lots of other stuff.

There's no mistaking the very obvious cinematic choices in that end sequence within Mama Earp's voice layover speech during the demon portion of when she talks about men vs. demons vs. Clootie/Bulshar and it's a (deceptively, I think) sweet shot of Dolls walking up to Wave & Jeremy with coffee.

Clearly, it's already been established that Black Badge did /something/ to Dolls to make him the 'demon' he is, whatever that may be.

There was clear point in making the connection that Bobo can bend/manipulate metal and that Jeremy has metal inside his body. Also there were so many references to the importance of metal while everyone was discussing Peacemaker, metal plates, metal bullets...

Metal is a theme, clearly.

Waverly being able to fire Peacemaker? Yes, it was making a point about Earpness but perhaps not entirely? More hints on the importance of metal?

If Bobo can bend metal, Jeremy has metal in his body and it was implied that has /something/ to do with his recruitment to Black Badge and Waverly handled Peacemaker (special kind of metal, as it would seem and it immediately afterward tried to burn her.)

Side-note: Why did Peacemaker try to burn Waverly if she's not a Revenant? Even if it allowed her to use it at a particular moment of duress under the orders and permission of the heir?

I think there's a clear line between Bobo's relationship with Waverly (and /especially/ the comment about 'Never said she's my daughter, she's my kin'), Bobo's abilities to manipulate metal, Waverly's ability to use Peacemaker in this episode under Wy's instruction even though it tried to burn her immediately afterwards as well as Jeremy's obviously important comments on the metal in his body being a factor for his BBD recruitment.

ALSO: I'm editing this right now, but something else just occurred to me that I'm not sure at all why I missed. Mikshun was having Waverly collect metal and it was going to try to use it to infuse /into Waverly's body/. Could it have /only/ done that in Waverly's body? Would it have attempted that in Wy's? Mikshun did make the comment when Waverly took it back, 'Now /we'll/ be together forever possibly denoting that would not have been possible with Wy. Would it only have been possible because whatever Waves is has a correlation to metal? 'I'm starting to think yes.

Also, an idea about the comment and wording and possible meaning of 'kin': Bobo clearly cares about Waverly, he even said so straight up in this episode, but that was never really much of a surprise to me. What /was/ a surprise to me was how insanely quickly (as in barely thirty seconds) Jeremy was willing and even eager to help Waverly at the possible risk of death and definite risk of career suicide was odd. Sure, the Earp sisters are charming as all hell and everyone loves them, but /that/ was ridiculous even without Jeremy being a logical person and we all know it.

Also, what about Waves' reaction towards Jeremy? That might have been even weirder. Sure, she was in a tight spot, but she told him /the entire story/. She didn't even give an abridged version, she just spilled the whole thing to someone she knew /nothing/ about and asked for help no sane person had any reason to give. Waverly's smarter than that, and to be honest, so is Jeremy.

So what if it wasn't entirely conscious? What if Jeremy is also a part of whatever this 'kin' is that may or may not have something to do with metal weapons/abilities/affinities, etc. and he and Waves' immediate reaction to each other was instinctual (and probably subconscious) trust and familiarity? Because it seemed like it to me, and without something underlying like that, it didn't make a damn lick of sense.

And Bobo could sense the metal in Jeremy, right? They were talking for a pretty long time before anyone made a move, Bobo could've killed him two seconds flat. But he didn't.

Also kin, whatever that means?

If so, who is the Master of this 'kin' that Bobo was probably referring to? Bulshar, someone else?

Is Dolls involved? Was there some kind of plot hatched by BBD to create whatever beings Jeremy & Wave (and possibly Bobo) might naturally be and it failed?

Was Jeremy recruited for the use of his body and possibly his entire genetic makeup in general?

Am I asking too many questions?

(Probably.)

Please hit me with your questions, or expansions on mine. Seriously, all the theories guys, I'd love them. Let's get Waverly Earp kinda determined in breaking this research down, somebody get some popcorn. ;)

Holidays I Observe/Celebrate

Taken from my sh!tty Book of Shadows, here's a list and summary of the holidays I attempt to celebrate.

KEEP IN MIND: These are holidays that I personally celebrate, they are described as I personally see them, and the celebrations mentioned are the ones that I personally observe. There are no “right” or “wrong” ways to celebrate a holiday, even “culturally important” ones. Everyone celebrates them differently, some people don’t observe certain traditions, and that’s okay. If you celebrate differently than I do, that’s okay! I can already smell the hate and annoying responses I’m going to get because of this but whatever let’s get started!

Putting a keep reading because holy farts this post was SO LONG!!!

New Years Day 🆕

January 1st --- A celebration of the new year. Usually celebrated by staying up the night before until midnight, then toasting a drink to luck and prosperity before going to bed. Lunch and/or dinner are usually comprised of black-eyed peas, greens, mashed potatoes, and cornbread.

Feast of Fools 🎭

January 6th --- A day to mock authoritative power, the church, religion in general, and the government. Mock ecclesiastical rituals are performed, a mock king/pope/bishop is elected, and drinking, dancing, and singing occurs. It's a day to laugh at that which is taken so seriously the rest of the year.

Chinese New Years 🐉

New Moon between January 21st and February 20th --- (I’ll update this part later!!!)

Imbolc 🏠

February 1st --- Marks the first day of spring. Celebration of hearth and home. Activities include making St. Brigid’s crosses, making bride’s beds, making priapic wands, lighting candles or bonfires in the snow, and eating pastries and dairy products.

Valentine’s Day 💝

February 14th --- A day to express your romantic love to those whom you love, usually by giving them a love note/card or a Valentine. Other gifts include roses, stuffed animals, chocolates, etc.

Mardi Gras ⚜

3 Days before Ash Wednesday --- Traditionally occurs 3 days before Ash Wednesday (which occurs 46 days before Easter). Activities include parades, throwing beads, eating good food, wearing masks, singing/playing music, dancing, and drinking.

White Day 💮

March 14th --- Usually celebrated in Asian countries, White Day is a response to Valentine’s Day. On Valentine’s day, women are the ones expressing their love to men. On White Day, men who received love are expected to return it, oftentimes with gifts triple in value to the gift they were given. Common gifts include white chocolate, white lingerie, cookies, etc. (Slightly sexist, but hey, a second day to spoil my partner with love is a-ok in my book!)

St. Patrick’s Day 🍀

March 17th --- A day to celebrate Irish culture and heritage. Activities include wearing green (and pinching those NOT wearing green), listening to traditional Irish music, and feasting on things such as roast, potatoes, greens, cornbread, whiskey, beer, and/or cider. A common tradition is “wetting the shamrock” where a clover is placed at the bottom of a shot glass that is then filled with alcohol. The shot is gulped down, and the clover goes with it, or alternatively is tossed over the shoulder for good luck.

Ostara - Spring Equinox 🌱

March 19th-22nd --- Ostara, the inspiration for Easter, is a celebration of new life, birth, fertility, growth, etc. Celebrated by planting seeds, starting gardens, planting flowers and trees, etc.

April Fool’s Day 😜

April 1st --- A day of pranks and jokes that I hate to death but also still celebrate for some reason..?

Easter 🐇

1st Sunday after the Full Moon --- Activities of celebration include painting and hiding boiled eggs which are collected in baskets, feasting on shepherd’s pie and carrot cake, eating candy and treats in the shapes of rabbits and chicks, etc.

Beltane 🔥

May 1st --- Originally celebrated by casting protection spells onto cattle who were headed out to summer pastures, today it is a celebration focused on protection of the self. Bouquets of primrose, rowan, hawthorn, gorse, hazel, and marigold are made and hung over the doors or windows of a home. Maypoles are danced around with colorful ribbons. Massive bonfires are lit and feasts are held.

LGBT+ Pride Month 🌈

The Entire Month of June --- A month to celebrate lgbt+ identities, such as lesbain, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer. Notable days for me are June 3rd: Bi pride day, June 5th: Pan pride day, and June 23rd: Androgyne pride day.

Litha - Summer Solstice ☀

June 19th-22nd --- These mark the longest days of the year. Protective amulets are made out of rue, rowan, and basil tied together with white or gold ribbon. They’re kept until the next Litha, when they’re burned and a new amulet is created. Other activities include picnics, making flower crowns, and dancing/singing around a campfire.

America’s Independence Day 🎆

July 4th --- Celebrations include barbecues, grilled foods, lemonade, pool parties, American patriotism, and shooting off/watching fireworks after dark.

Tanabata 🌠

July 7th --- (There’s so much lore about this holiday that I’m going to leave out because this post is already so long.) Essentially, it’s an Asian (more specifically, Japanese, or the version I celebrate hails from Japan) holiday centered around two lovers who get to meet only once a year (the 7th day of the 7th month). On the day of their meeting, you can write down wishes on tiny strips of paper and tie them to trees/bamboo, which are burned at midnight to release the wish into the universe in hopes that it will come true. Also it’s bad luck if it rains on Tanabata because the lovers can’t meet.

Lammas/Lughnasadh 🍞

August 1st --- The first harvest of the year. Feasts of breads, grains, and beers as well as bonfires are common. Activities include making corn dollies, wicker men, making crowns of wheat/corn stalks, creating/decorating staves, wands, and besoms/brooms, etc.

Cherokee National Holiday 🐦

1st Monday in September --- An annual event celebrating Cherokee heritage and culture, held each Labor Day weekend in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. The theme of the celebration changes each year, but activities include a two night inter-tribal pow wow, stickball, Cherokee marbles, horseshoes and cornstalk shoot tournaments, softball tournaments, rodeos, car and art shows, gospel singings, the annual Miss Cherokee pageant, the Cherokee National Holiday parade, and the annual "State of the Nation" address by the Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation.

Mabon - Autumn Equinox 🍁

September 19th-22nd --- The days and nights are equal in length. A time to wear your finest clothes and spend time with your family. This is the second harvest of the year. Activities include offering tributes to nature for the harvests, making wine, gathering dried herbs, walking in the woods, and decorating burial sites with acorns, leaves, and pine cones.

Halloween 🎃

October 31st --- Inspired by Samhain and celebrated on the same day. Activities include carving pumpkins into jack-o-lanterns, wearing costumes, going through haunted houses, riding hayrides, and giving/receiving treats like candy, popcorn balls, and little plastic toys.

Samhain 👻

Sunset of October 31st - Sunset of November 1st --- Marks the beginning of winter. Feasts inviting the spirits of dead loved ones to join are held. Offerings to fae and spirits are given. Masks and disguises are worn to hide from evil entities. A time to honor the dead, be they kin, friends, or pets.

Dia de los Muertos 💀

November 1st & 2nd --- A time to celebrate the dead. Activities include tidying up or decorating graves/burial sites, creating shrines/altars to the dead or deities connected to the dead, leaving offerings like sweets and marigolds to the dead, painting your face to look like a calavera (a skull), dancing and singing to honor the dead, feasting on pan de muertos, etc. Meant to be a joyful but still respectful celebration of those who have passed on.

Thanksgiving 🍠

4th Thursday in November --- A time to gather with the family over a meal and express thankfulness for what you have. A traditional feast includes turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie, pecan pie, and more.

Yule - Winter Solstice ❄

December 19th-22nd --- The longest nights of the year. Activities include toasting to trees with spiced cider, creating/lighting a yule log, decorating with ivy and holly, kissing under mistletoe, and enjoying a feast of pork dishes, eggnog, turkey, spiced wines and ciders, cookies, and cider-soaked caraway cakes.

Christmas 🎄

December 25th --- Inspired by Yule, celebrations include caroling, giving/getting presents and gifts, decorating a Christmas tree, making snowpeople, eating gingerbread cookies and candy canes, watching parades, watching sports, watching ballets, and feasting with friends and family.
