Ed as Polly Pocket. This is the kind of stuff I get up to when I have a fever. Ok, fine. Itâs also the kind of edits I do when I feel perfectly well. đ
This weekâs Monday Philm is one of my absolute favorites. Along Came Polly (2004) is a pretty run-of-the-mill silly 2000s romcom, except that it features an unforgettable comedic performance from Philip Seymour Hoffman.
Iâve never written a real âreviewâ of this movie because I donât even know what to say about it, I just adore this role so much. I love how funny Phil is, genuine laugh-out-loud genius comedic timing. I love that this ridiculous flick helps cement him as one of the most versatile actors of all time. I love that this is many peopleâs first and/or favorite PSH performance â often because theyâre aware of his dramatic range, which makes it even better how he cranked the âfunny best friendâ dial to 11 for this random romcom. A few months ago the wedding pratfall blew up on tiktok and I loved knowing that literally millions of people were laughing their asses off because of him, that he was making them smile right now.
I love that Philâs friends say this is the movie closest to his actual sense of humor. I love that he really had fun making this film, which wasnât always how he felt on sets. I love that he did Along Came Polly and went right on to make Capote and win an Oscar. I love that Sanford Lyle is inexplicably one of the hottest PSH characters of all time â the hair, the jaw, the joggers. I love that Phil sings. I love that he wears a kippah and dances the hora. I love how filthy Sandyâs hands are in the basketball scenes for no reason. I love âLetâs get married!â and âDid you spank her?â and âMy lungâs are burninââ and âOh, Iâm hugging, oh, I love you so muchâ LIAR!â I love that this is the first movie I want to watch whenever Iâm sick. I love that his final scene still gets me choked up, no matter how many times I watch it. I love that he makes me feel the full spectrum of human emotions every single day.

No One But You
Tommy Shelby x Reader
Warnings: self-doubt, worry of past lovers returningâŠnothing too major
Word Count: 1018
Summary: Tommy assures (Y/N) that sheâs the only woman he wants after two women from his past reappear in his life.
She mustâve read the return address a dozen times. Why? She didnât know. It wasnât like reading it again was going to make the senderâs name change. But yet she did anyway.
(Y/N) knew who Grace was. Sheâd heard about her; knew what sheâd done to Tommy and his family. So why the hell was she sending him letters now?
At first she spoke to Polly, who told her to hide them. As a clerk at the postmasterâs office, sheâd make sure to bring any mail the Shelbys received with her whenever sheâd come to visit her boyfriend. When sheâd arrive at Watery Lane, sheâd follow the older womanâs suggestion and promptly slip the envelope into one of the side tableâs drawers; hoping that Tommy wouldnât find them there. But they just kept coming.
And now as she was walking to Watery Lane with what was the fifth letter Grace had sent, she didnât know if she could keep up with hiding them. So instead she kept it in her hands, re-reading it until she heard the door open.
She stood to her feet at the sound and walked over to greet her boyfriend, accepting his kiss and shoulder squeeze as a greeting. Tommy knew something was wrong the second he pulled away. (Y/N) wasnât wearing her usual, welcoming smile. Instead, her expression was blank.
âHas something happened?â he asked her, his brows furrowing together.
âThis came in to the post today,â she answered him, extending her hand to hold the envelope out between them.
Tommyâs brows furrowed deeper as he scanned over the words written on the envelope.
âWhy does she keep writing you?â (Y/N) couldnât stop herself from asking, desperate to know why he was still receiving letters from her.
She and Tommy had entered a relationship only five months ago, but she was no stranger to the life that he lived and the company heâd kept in the past. Tommy Shelby was sought after by many, and somehow sheâd gotten luckyâŠor at least thatâs what she kept telling herself. No matter how many times his actions reassured her that he was hers alone, that nagging seed of doubt still crept into her mind. Like it was doing now.
âI donât know why,â he answered with a shake of his head, âI havenât spoken to her since she left for New York.â
âSheâs written to you five times,â (Y/N) couldnât withhold the information any longer. Tommyâs brows furrowed again upon hearing her admission, so she decided to elaborate: âPolly said that I shouldnât give them to you; that I should hide them instead. Theyâre in the side table. I donât know why I listened to her. I justâŠI couldnât bring myself to give them to you.â
Tommy looked down at the letter and back to (Y/N), seeing that she was now biting on her lip, a nervous tendency of hers that heâd noticed fairly early into their relationship.
âMay Carleton also came to meet you last weekâŠâ she spoke again after silence had hung in the air for a few moments.
âShe needed to speak about the horse,â he answered in a nonchalant manner, not thinking much more of the meeting he had with the other woman.
(Y/N), of course, was overthinking it.
âHeyâŠâ Tommy brought her out of her thoughts, making her focus on him again. âI can see you fighting with yourself. Let those thoughts go.â
âI canâtâŠI just canât help but wonder if maybe, if maybe that, that with them coming backâŠâ she tried to speak but her mind betrayed her, and the lump that formed in her throat stopped her from speaking altogether.
Not much more was needed to connect the dots though. The clues had been dropped and Tommy was quick enough to pick them up and place them in order. âThose women are in the past, (Y/N). Youâre the one I want,â he spoke with sincereity, hoping that itâd quell the thoughts swirling around her mind.
(Y/N) held eye contact with him until she couldnât anymore. She felt those worries still bubbling up inside of her, even though heâd just flat out told her that he wanted her. She dropped her gaze to her fingers, watching as she picked at her nails.
â(Y/N)âŠâ Tommy tried to get her attention, but to no avail. âLook at me right now,â he went another route, using his index and middle finger to raise her eyes to his again. He could see that they were watery now, and he hated that she was thinking so far into this. He took her cheeks into his hands, pulling her the slightest bit closer to him before speaking again. âThereâs no one but you, ok? Youâre the one I want to be with. Youâre the one I want,â he reiterated his point, his eyes searching hers as he spoke. âOk?â he asked again after she hadnât spoken in a few moments.
âOk,â (Y/N) breathed out, nodding her head the best she could with it held in his hands. She closed her eyes for a moment and took a deep breath, hoping to steady herself. When she opened them again, they immediately hooked onto Tommyâs intense blue ones. âIâm sorry, Tommy,â she felt that she had to apologize.
âDonât be,â he shook his head slightly at her statement, âthereâs no reason for you to be sorry, love.â
âBut IâŠâ
âNo,â he cut her off, âIâm going to burn this letter, and any other letter that comes. Youâre the one I want, (Y/N).â
A small smile formed on her face at his words. She reached out and gently ran the back of her hand down his cheek, watching as his eyes dropped to her lips. Knowing what was coming next, she closed her eyes, leaning in slightly and meeting him in the middle, their lips finding each otherâs in a passionate kiss that rid her mind of all of her doubts.
âNo one but you, love,â Tommy whispered against her lips before kissing them again.
đ„°So another part to this series, thank you so much for all your support and encouragement! It means the world â„ïž and as I take your feedback seriously, I can assure you Tommy will be looking for a housekeeper substitute đ€

Y/N prayed silently her dress would close, Ada suggested getting it slightly loose at certain places just in case, because overnight, her belly was showing and most of her clothes wouldnât fit anymore. It was funny because it only looked as if she was bloated but it was enough for a zipper to break.
âYou ready?â Polly asked just as she knocked on the door, stepping in right away. As usual, she looked so elegant in her attire.
âHer dress is beautiful Mrs. Gray.â Y/Nâs grandma pointed out making Y/N blush, she then turned to Polly. âAnd you look stunning.â
Polly nodded acknowledging her compliment.
âI canât believe Iâm wearing this gown.â Y/N stated staring at her reflection in the mirror, she looked like a completely different person with her hair up in a simple but elegant hairstyle, make up in just the right places, accenting her features, and the dress fit like a glove. She had never had a dress like this.
âYou need something else though.â Her grandma suggested, she looked beautiful in her attire too, the Shelby family were too kind to extend an invitation for her.
Opening her bag, Y/N frowned confused by what she meant, she had everything already.
âYour grandfather gave me these when we got married.â From a velvet pouch, she produced a pair of gorgeous diamond studs.
âI think these will look beautiful.â Polly encouraged, feeling a swept of love by the exchange.
Y/N on the other hand felt lost for words, to some it might be a small detail, but to her, the sentimental value itâs what weighted the most.
âThese are meant to be wear on occasions like this, right?â She asked holding one of the earrings for her granddaughter while she hooked the other one.
âLooks like youâre all set then⊠letâs welcome the guests.â Polly added taking grandmaâs purse to help her. âEverythingâs going accordingly so far.â
The music filled the big room, people were dancing happily, champagne flowing, staff filling empty cups with booze and plates with appetizers. Y/N felt particularly mesmerized by the chandeliers catching the light beautifully and reflecting all around as if it was dancing as well.
Tommy insisted the party should take place in Arrow House, said it would be a good excuse to do a grand opening, so she immediately got busy to have everything ready. The place oozed luxury everywhere she looked, the most important names in the country RSVPâed faster than she thought. Never in her wildest dreams she imagined how it would turn out, she spent so much time choosing flowers for the center pieces, napkins colors to go with the tablecloths, tableware as well as the menu, days of hard work paying off finally on this night and for a brief instant, she allowed herself to feel proud because she took care meticulously of everything.
âIâll be back in a minute, need an ashtray.â Polly announced and took grandma by the arm to chat for a while.
Y/N was taking everything in, still not fully believing it was a reality.
âJohnny, get everyone in the kitchen.â He instructed. âFive minu-â words got caught up in his throat as he took a double look to his left and found Y/N standing by herself next to the staircase.
Her hair was pinned up, framing her face so it was fully on display instead of hiding, the dress made her look gorgeous but the cherry on top was the glowing emanating from within her heart, pregnancy was suiting her well. He then noticed she opened and closed the handbag nervously.
She wasnât the same girl that used to run with him a race at an open fiel until they reached the river. He let her win so many times⊠yet that girl was somehow still in her.
He had never seen her like that before. She was more beautiful than he imagined.
But as soon as the thought entered his mind, Tommy kicked himself mentally. He shouldnât think of her that way.
âAre you planning to give someone a heart attack?â He joked and took a few long strides to be at her side.
âIâm nervous,â she chuckled, âIâm the one having a heart attack.â
Turning around to face him, she felt her mouth going dry, the blue suit was a fabulous choice. It wasnât traditional, but when she saw it at the tailorâs shop she knew Tommy had to wear it to the event and since she got a blank cheque, she added it to the account. He was so bloody handsome, but she thought that he looked even more that night. There, with a cocked smile and proud shining in his crystal eyesâŠ
They stood there holding each otherâs gazes, the people in the background fading awayâŠ
Until Johnny Dogs interrupted them.
âThe boys are on their way Tom.â He nodded at Y/N. âAre we going, yeah?â
Tommy gave Y/N another look and she encouraged him with a smile to go.
He started to walk away, but then stopped abruptly and turning around he spoke; âY/N you did an amazing job, thank you.â
Reaching his expectations was all Y/N wanted to achieve, to make him proud of her work. It was the way she knew in retribution to thank him for every little thing he did.
âAnd Johnny? Y/N told me she counted the paintings ey?â Tommy turned to give her wink. âSo you better tell your kin they canât steal anything or theyâll have to deal with a very pissed Y/N.â
Y/N gasped, of course she didnât count the paintings. An evident blush covered her face and neck and she started shaking her head in embarrassment.
âHey! Thatâs not true.â She tried to keep her manners, but her mind went back to when they were teenagers and her grandma discovered the two of them sneaking into the kitchen to get a slice of the pie she had baked and Tommy blamed it all on Y/N, the worst part is that her grandma believed him and scolded her granddaughter when it had been Tommyâs idea in the first place.
âWhere are they, ey?â Tommy asked impatiently a cigarette hanging from his mouth.
âIâm telling you now, we got lost,â announced Arthur. âYou really need to do a map, Thomas.â
âRight, boys youâre all here.â Tommy started in a warning tone.
The blinders gathered around him in a circle.
âTonight itâs a fucking very important day, weâre celebrating the Arrow House grand opening.â
âYeah, and you said thereâd be no bloody uniforms.â Interrupted John.
Tommy shot him a death stare. âNevertheless⊠nevertheless, John⊠despite the bad blood, Iâll have none of it on my carpet.â
They were part of the guest list.
He made a pause and looked around to his men. âNow, for Y/Nâs sake, nothing will go wrong. She has worked so fucking hard for everything you see tonight and the Shelby Institute. And if you fuckers do anything to embarrass her, your kin, your cousins, your horses, your fucking kids, you do anythingâŠâ
âTom?â Once more, John interrupted his brother.
âWhat?â
âWhat about snow?â Asked Isiah.
John replied something that Tommy couldnât understand, but he felt his blood start boiling by their silly attitude.
âNo, no, no.â He stood in front of the young blinder. âNo cocaine.â Then pointing at his face, he repeated; âno cocaine. No sports.â He then moved to point at John. âNo telling fortunes. No racing.â Walking back towards Finn, he continued. âNo fucking sucking petrol of their fucking cars.â
He hated to admit it out loud, but he was nervous to. He wanted to fit in, he needed to blend in among the richest and more powerful people, to be one of them. To prove everybody that he had been able to claim a stair that was only reserved for those who were born in a crib made of gold.
Meanwhile, upstairs Y/N attended several guests, listening to the stories they were sharing about how much it would mean to them to donate and give back to the community. Some of them, Y/N learned were important politicians who wanted to show a good image to help them gain voters, others members of the aristocracy just wanted to show their wealthy off. Whatever reason they had, Y/N was excited to see some of the cheques they were writing right there for the institution, additional to a monthly donation they promised.
Finding Tommy among the guests, Y/N approached him to ask him if she could save the cheques in his office.
âCan we see this later?â He relief not even sending a glance in her direction, his eyes were fixed like daggers in someone.
As he moved around like a gazelle, about to chase his pry, Y/N noticed a group of women eating him with their eyes, looking him up and down, seizing his frame, biting their lips, probably wondering how would it feel to be with himâŠ.
Y/N felt like she was out of place, she shook her head and decided to ask Ada instead where she should keep the documents. She then excused herself for a moment, feeling like the happy bubble had been popped given Tommyâs cold attitude. He was never like this, he had never left her talking alone before, but he had been a bit off the last couple of days.
For some unknown reason.
Perhaps she had been creating a fantasy in her mind, yes he was a good man, but he also had an explosive temper when he wanted to, he snapped at people at the slightest provocation. Why would he treat her differently? Just because a she was pregnant?
A knock on the door disturbed the peace she just found, and without waiting to be asked to come inside, Tommy called her name.
âY/N youâre needed downstairs.â Tommy informed her, but he knew her too damn well. When Ada told him that Y/N was taking a minute on her own, he knew she wasnât comfortable about something.
âWhat happened?â He asked patiently. She shook her head, not wanting to make a scene. âHey, hey.. come here.â
It was everything, her pregnancy, her nerves, the bloody hormones, mood swings, worry to make everything perfect⊠him.
âI hope you donât take personally what happened earlier, I was looking for someone that wasnât invited.â Tommy explained.
Y/N looked at him tentatively. She walked into the en-suite bathroom to wet a cloth and press it into the back of her neck, careful enough to not get a stain in the dress, he followed her steps and took a seat on the edge of the bathtub. The familiarity and comfort between them was too personal.
âIs this why youâve been acting distant the last couple of days?â
With a sigh, he nodded. âYes, I act like this when Iâm scared.â
Y/N turned around pondering into his words, giving him time and space to speak on his own terms.
âI need to make sure youâre away from this business. I donât want you to get involved at all. Do you understand?â
âTommy whatâs happening?â It all made sense to her now, the secret phone calls, the late night drives, his mood.
âThe less you know, the better.â He cleared his throat. âPromise me you wonât make something stupid.â
Y/N rolled her eyes, he was the one always making the bad decisions she wanted to say instead.
âYou wonât get involved.â He was firm about his statement.
âOnly if you promise to be safe.â Y/N retorted.
âIâll try my best.â A soft smile played on his lips.
She mirrored the smile and followed him outside, to join their guest one more time.
âMr. Shelby! This is a wonderful party.â Mrs. Lewis praised, she was the wife of a former major, a bit extravagant, she loved to show off. âAnd a beautiful house.â
âI appreciate your words. But all the credit goes to Y/N.â
âSo the old wives tale is real huh? That babies come with a bunch of blessings.â She squinted her eyes happily at Y/Nâs baby bump, then looked back at Tommy. âCongratulations! I wish this baby nothing but the best.â
Y/N opened her mouth to correct her, and clarify that Tommy wasnât the father. But Tommy cut her out.
âThanks, hopefully youâll be able to help us with the fundraising.â
âIâll tell family and friends, you can count on that Mr. Shelby.â
As the woman disappeared, Y/N turned her face around to look at him.
âLet people talk, theyâre going to do it anyways.â He stated, then as a waiter passed by, he took a glass of whiskey from the tray. âRule number two; never reveal the truth when they can barely deal with a half truth.â
âWhatâs number one?â
âOh, Iâd tell you⊠but then Iâd have to kill you and Iâd be kind of sad you know?â He winked at her and elegantly strode towards where the music band was playing to grab the microphone.
âGood evening everyone, thank you for joining us tonight. As some of you may know, the Shelby Foundation Institute will open doors in a couple of weeks, weâre sure with this project weâll be able to help many many children in need, grant them the education their parents canât afford and a safe environment to learn and develop the abilities thatâll will help them in a near future.â A round of applauses filled the room and Tommy thanked the guest with a small nod. âYour contribution is highly appreciated, it will allow us to complement and provide everything thatâs needed. I can assure you, your money will be well spent and weâre more than open to welcome you any time at the Institution.â His eyes started moving across the room. âLast but not least, Iâd like to thank to the responsible of this project, the one who since day one showed a genuine interest and despite the doors that were closed in her face, she never backed down until this was a reality. Y/N thank you for everything youâve done.â Raising his glass in her direction, he recognized her effort and compromise.
Blushing from getting all the attention towards her momentarily, she started biting her lip.
When Tommy started walking, people over to the side, making something similar to a human wall and leaving a space free for him to walk until he reached Y/N.
âDance with me?â
The gesture took her by surprise, but soon Tommyâs arm wrapped around her waist and he started swaying to the beat of the music.
âEverything is perfect, thank you for taking care of every little thing.â He admitted with a very rare smile.
Carefully to not make Y/N dizzy, Tommy spun her around, following the music beats.
âThank you for taking us in.â Y/N replied as a wide smile spread on her lips.
Feeling like nothing she could say or do was enough to thank Tommy. Sheâd be in debt with him for the rest of her life.
âYouâve nothing to-â he started to say but she cut him off.
âI do, every single time I blink, I feel so grateful to have you in my life.â
Tommy gave her hand a squeeze. âIf things were different⊠wouldnât you do the same?â
âYes.â She admitted in a heartbeat.
âThen this better be the last time you thank me.â He raised an eyebrow as a warning, but his eyes remained giving her a gentle look. âI know youâd do the same thing for me.â
One more careful spin and the piece was done. A round of applause filled the room and the background noises brought them back to reality.
âIâve to go, stay here, stay safe.â Tommy stated. âYou know what to do in case something bad happens.â
He had already showed her where to hide in case anyone broke into Arrow House. It wasnât his favorite outcome, but he had assured her it was for the best of she was prepared. Luckily he hadnât show her how to use a weapon, but she knew the day might be closer than she thought.
âTommyâŠâ her heart started hammering her ribcage, she could feel it in her ears too. âPromise me youâll be safe.â
The look of worry he found in her eyes made him fight the lump in his throat. If something happened to him, what would she do? Who would protect her? Whoâd look after her and the baby?
âWill do. This is the last ilegal business, you know I want to make it right.â
Clearing his throat, he looked around finding Arthur giving him a nod, they were ready to go.
âIâll be back before you know it.â He assured her once more.
As a different music started to play, Y/N went on to search for her grandmother.
Meanwhile, downstairs Lizzie was crying and smocking in such a bad shape after having a word with Michael about Angel, she started shouting when she heard what they did to his restaurant, she was fuming.
âMiss Stark can I help you?â Mary asked, smoothing her apron.
âDo youâve a gun? So I can shoot someone?â Lizzie wiped her nose.
âNo maâam.â Mary took a step closer. âMay I ask what happened?â
âThe Shelbys blew my boyfriendâs restaurant so he couldnât come to the party.â She tried to smooth the black mascara under her eyes.
And she started to whine and bent into the maid all she knew about the stupid rivalry between the Shelbyâs and the Changrettaâs.
Mary ignored Lizzieâs past, she only knew she was her masterâs secretary, so she felt naturally bad for the green-eyed woman.
âI donât get it, Thomas gets to have the little happy family with Y/N and also dictate who am I able to be involved with.â
âBut they arenât a family, the baby isnât Mr. Shelbyâs.â Mary dropped an unexpected bomb.
Lizzie stared at her in disbelief, her jaw dropping.
âAre you sure?â
âThe motives of why he keeps her under his protection are unknown to me, but he isnât the father of that baby.â The housekeeper assured her.
Lizzie nodded automatically, processing the news and thinking how this piece of information changed a lot of things.
âSo Y/N is a little slut after all.â She mumbled to herself, planning in her mind a couple of ideas that would tear down that facade of integrity and good morals Y/N carried around like a crown. A womanâs reputation meant much more than anything.
And of course, it didnât match the wealthy people standards.

Hi I hope youâre well đ Iâm here to request your thoughts on Tommy Shelby as a father. Like how many kids youâd think he would have had if he only had one love interest (no falling in love with Grace or marrying Lizzie). Or if you think heâd be a girl or boy dad (personally iâd like to think heâd be a girl dad and have a big family haha). You can make this headcanon or just simply respond to this ask however youâd like! Thank you for taking the time to read and answer đ„°
Thomas Shelby as a Father
Tommy x Fem!Reader
Trope: Wait till your father gets home
Warnings: Angst, spoilers for most of the series, period-typical sexism, references to past ab-se.
What we see of Tommy as a father is that he's distant and seemingly detached. This, I feel, is because of his trauma in losing Grace and his growing obsession with obtaining power.
We do see that Tommy is aware of his children's emotional state but seems unable to comfort his son. He goes as far as to have Arthur be the one to talk to his son about why he had to shoot his horse.
Tommy clearly cares about his children. He runs through a field of landmines to save his son, when he had almost stepped on one to purposely end his own life. Tommy goes nearly mad when he finds out Alfie Solomons was involved with the enemy that kidnapped his son. He shot Alfie for that betrayal with the intent to kill.
When Ruby became ill and he thought was all due to a curse, Tommy hunted the woman down. He went on a bloody rampage because he thought it would save her. With all of this, we know he is a loving father. But without Grace, he doesn't seem to know how to show that love.
Let's say that there is no Grace, only you, and that no sapphire is ever put around your neck.
That Thomas might be different than the one we saw parenting Charles and Ruby. I think he would want more than two children. I think he would be the sort of man who would say "one is enough," but really he wants four.
He would never raise his voice in his home without good reason. Tommy knows what its like to have a father that rules through fear and honey. He won't be kind only when he wants something. He won't make his children afraid of him.
Personally, I do see him as prime girl-dad material. Like he would have one son and three girls. Regardless of the birthing order, he calls the boy his "heir," but spoils the girls. They each have their own horse, a wardrobe of beautiful clothing, and freedom to do literally whatever they want. He has opened his briefcase to find dollies and teacups from your youngest girl's tea set before. She thought he would be lonely at work.
His girls would be the sort to follow around staff and ask them intrusive questions. Tommy would not be immune. His daughters would probably ask him questions like: "Do you not grow hair on the back of your hand daddy? Is that why it's only on top?" At least one of his daughters would have a "I'm totally a witch," phase where she's flinging curses just like he used to. Only with her, it's cute because she's only nine.
The only son of Thomas Shelby would be safely tucked under his wing. At your imploring, he would take your boy on long car rides or out into town without his sisters to bond. The boy has a lot of pressure on him to succeed, Tommy doesn't always sympathize with that.
All four of his children would be little hellions. He would be dragged to see their school's headmaster on a near weekly basis. To the point where he isn't always sure which of his kids is in trouble sometimes. He just drops a donation to the school and the problem goes away. That's not to say your children are bratty or terribly spoiled. Well, they are, but not unbearably so...
Tommy makes sure his children understand where he came from. He brings them all to the Cut to watch the ships come through. Loves to leave them at Charlie's yard for an afternoon of mischief and bonding time with "Grandpa Charlie." They also get dropped off at Aunt Polly's home for weekends every now and again. The girls always come back with a new swear word.
They are new money, not old money. There are those who will look down upon them based on this alone. He makes sure his children are educated and well-rounded individuals. Tommy often worries about the state of the Shelby Empire after he dies. You remind him that he "isn't allowed to die," before you say so.
Tommy is still more distant than you would like him to be. He's so focused on his goals, it's like he forgets all about Arrow House and the family that lives there. The oldest two girls have said as much to his face once before. He took the family on holiday after that. You knew he would go right back to long nights in the office, but it was still sweet.
Life with him is hardly perfect, but it's closer to it than you could have with anybody else. And that's enough.
Sometimes we just fall in love with a cute nickname for our characters. So here is a list of names that you can name your characters, even though you will only call them by their nickname.

Summary: When Tommy comes back from the war, he finds out that you're no longer single, he does not appreciate it at all.
Thomas Shelby x Reader
Warnings: angst, fluff
Your father has been friends with the Shelbys for years, you are five years younger than Tommy but that didn't stop the two of you from becoming friends. The only problem in your life? You are irrevocably in love with Thomas Shelby, and he doesnât know, in fact he has referred to you as his âsisterâ way too many times.
But you care about Tommy, if he found love with someone that wasnât you, that relationship would be supported by you. Your father knew that you were in love with the Shelby brother but he tries not to intervene, the best he can do is incentivise you to find a boyfriend.
When the war came, you were the first person Thomas went to tell that he was getting drafted. You cried with him and he slept in your bedroom before leaving you without saying goodbye, that hurt way more than when you used to see Tommy with a woman, he left without saying goodbye. But that wasnât the worst part, you sent letters as much as you could but Thomas never replied to any of them, you asked Polly if he wrote, she said that he did but nothing for you.
You were devastated, Thomas fully erased you from his life and you had no idea why. For months you were depressed and your father was worried about you, so he incentivised you to go out with your girlfriends to make you forget about Thomas but it was useless, as soon as you came home, you were still writing him letters hoping that he would finally reply, but he never did. Your father was on a mission now, finding you a boyfriend so you could put Thomas behind you as quick as possible. But he didn't have to do much, you found someone on your own.
You were walking back home from buying groceries, the bag was heavy but you kept walking.
âMiss, allow me to help please.â The man was much taller than you, he had dirty blonde hair and green eyes. You allowed him to take the bags and you smiled at him. âIt would be a sin to allow a pretty lady like you to struggle with a heavy bag.â The two of you smiled and looked down, you were embarrassed by his comment and he was happy about the fact that he made you smile. âMy name is Matthew, let me walk you home.â You nodded, and you introduced yourself.
âThank you, Matthew.â That is how your relationship with Matthew has started.
It did wonders to your mental health, you finally stopped crying for Thomas and writing him letters. You found out that Matthew had one leg bigger than the other and that is why he wasnât in the war. He made you smile, he was an orphan but he had a good job as a solicitor and his own home outside of the city. Matthew and your father got along very well, Matthew came to your house almost every day to have dinner with the two of you. He often says that he prefers to be in your apartment rather than his empty home.
Matthew was a godsend in your life, everyday you wake up and you thank God that he showed up in your life, but of course your feelings for Thomas didn't go away, they simply went dormant, but you were not concerned about that now.
-----------------------------------------
The war was over.
You were so happy that bloodshed was over, that all the men got to come home and move on with their lives. You had no idea what happened with Tommy and his brothers but you prayed for them every night that they got home alright. You and Matthew have been dating for six months, and everything was going great but now you knew that sooner or later youâd have to see Tommy again and made your heart skip a beat, you thought that you were over him but perhaps not.
You decided to go on about your day, try to forget the fact that Tommy was back. Matthew was coming to dinner today, so you decided to focus on that. You were making a roast dinner, it was Matthewâs favourite and you loved doing it. Things werenât going your way, you were messing up the recipe, and having to start over but you had plenty of time. But the night that Tommy left was in the forefront of your mind, you wanted an explanation of why he cut you off his life completely.Â
The desert was almost finished when you heard someone at the door, you hoped that it wasnât Matthew, you wanted to shower and get changed before seeing him. When you opened the door you were speechless, Tommy was right in front of you, after all these years. His whole demeanor was different, it looked as if he was a completely different man.
âWhat youâre doing here?â You didn't want sound so rude, but you were. He left and didn't even reply to a single letter and now he wants to waltz in your life?
âI wanted to see you.â His voice sent shivers down your spine, you hated the fact that he had that much effect on you when he basically abandoned you all those years ago. âMay I come in?â You allowed him to enter and he had a smile on his face, and you hated it.
âWhy do you want to see me?â You crossed your arms, you were fighting the urge to hug Tommy and he definitely noticed that. âYou left that night without saying goodbye, you didn't reply to any of my letters, you made yourself pretty clear that you do not care about me, Thomas.â Ouch, ThomasâŠhe visibly winced at you using his name, and not Tommy.
âI thought that I was going to die, I didn't want to make you even sadder.â You rolled your eyes, that was the worst excuse you could ever hear.
âYouâd think that I wouldnât mourn you if you died?â You yelled at him, and Tommy looked down.
You heard the door opening and it was your father, he looked surprised to see Tommy here.
âTommy, youâre back.â Your father hugged him and Tommy hugged your father back. âAre you staying for dinner? Iâm sure that Matthew wonât mind, will he sweetheart?â Thomas looked at you, and the only thing that was in his eyes were jealousy.
âWhoâs Matthew?â He tried to hide his anger, he had no right to be jealous but he didn't care.
âMy boyfriend.â You whispered, it felt as if you were embarrassed about your relationship.
âHe is great, Tommy. Youâll meet him.â Your father patted him on the back and he simply nodded.
What you didn't know is that Thomas was madly in love with you, he was just too much of a pussy to admit it and now he lost you. But he wasnât going to take this lying down, he was going to have you.
âMay I speak with you in private, love?â He whispered to you and you simply nodded, and he followed you to your bedroom.
âWhat do youâŠâ Tommy didn't let you finish your question.
âI love you, Iâve loved you from the first moment Iâve ever saw you.â You were speechless, but you were so angry at him.
âHow could you say that? You abandoned me and now youâre jealous?â The two of you were getting closer and closer.
âI am jealous, because Iâve loved you all my life and now youâre with someone thatâs not me.â Both of your breathing was hard, the two of you were looking into each otherâs eyes.Â
He finally kissed you, and you kissed him back. His hand went to your hair and your arms went around his neck, your heart was bursting and the it felt as if everything was right in the world.
âDonât be with him, be with me. Please?â Thomas asked you, what you were going to do now?
