Penguin Books

When approaching this brief I created a mind map based on initial ideas about the book. I took a lot of inspiration from the blurb of the book and the original cover itself. I took note of the target audience and what book covers would appeal to this specific group. I carefully picked colours which fit the theme of magic and used shades to add depth to the cover.

I felt that the cover was successful as the line drawing over the top of shaded areas created a lovely image overall. I aimed to create a collage of numerous English and Indian landmarks but create some physical illustrations.

A problem I faced was the line ‘A spellbinding adventure’ Abi Elphstone getting lost within the imagery. To solve this problem I had to make the text much smaller and change the alignment. Moving forward, I would focus on the feedback of a younger audience and try to enterpret another colour into my minimal colour pallet.

Just got a test print through for this Jane Austen one.

It’s a good reminder just how good Giclee printing looks on quality paper 😍 it kind of halves my profit to use all the most expensive options and an ethical print shop but it does look lovely.

D&AD Tutorial

During today's tutorial i had a discussion with mark and rich about the possibilities of where i can go with this project.

The advice that was given to me was that i need to more digging in terms of understanding Gen Z. I want to look into what they love, collect, their values, their pride etc.

Goung forward i plan on doing more research into Gen Z and their habits and complete some ideation that resonates with Penguin Books.

Thank goodness #penguinbooks have U turned on the decision to censor #roalddahl books as some words may offend. Classic literature needs to be left alone. Words are powerful and you can’t address prejudice unless the words that need addressing are written down. Dahl is about championing the underdog. One of the best things about this year was discovering the ✨little black classics✨ from @penguinbooks and I’ve been loving getting one of these every-time I want a little break. I also love the collector’s aspect of it. A nervous breakdown was the first one I read and also my first time reading Chekhov which was a brilliant experience and also very very funny!
