you know i fully joke about wanting gortash romance to be real but i am going to be So honest when i say i truly do not want it to be put in the game lmao. and honestly if the franc letter was taken out for that reason, it only reinforces that for me because it kind of just makes me realize how soulless and pandering it will probably feel if some of the other changes are anything to go by. let the man be an absolute freak who loves any man willing to birth a little more slithering, wet malice into the world by putting his weapons in groping, willing fingers smh.
(i also need to be so honest when i say i think either it would need to be durge-locked or be So significantly different for a durge vs. other characters for a romance to work lmao)

Honey goes farther then vinegar in the strife buisness.
Like, tyranny isn't built in fear or domination. For sure not on simple threats of firebombing somones house. Why the fuck would the lord enver gortash work with someone he has to threaten into subservience.
We KNOW gort uses his dick in politics, we KNOW he is the sexy lord of baldurs gate. Why has his character been turned into an archetype of a mob boss?
The Chosen are setup yo subvert their typical story archetypes anyways.
Bhaals - spawn is an admirer of the beauty of murder, not on mass but as individual art pieces.
Myrkuls chosen is simply a family man worn and wearing thin, not a power hungry self serving lich.
Banes chosen is still a scared child from hell, using subversive backroom tactics, using his goons to protect himself not a tuff boss strutting around the city throwing his weight around ruling with fear.

note to franc peartree from orin
i don't know if you can actually find this in game but it doesn't seem to be loaded into any of the map files and it's not in franc peartree's house or basement, so it's likely you can't? anyway. i feel like it somehow paints a hornier picture of gortash and peartree's relationship than his original unedited letters
Tumblr media
here is its roottemplates entry, it's named "BOOK_LOW_SerialKiller_PeartreeOrinThreat", and its name in game is "choose wisely"
Tumblr media
the note you find on peartree's body is named "BOOK_LOW_SerialKiller_OrinThreat", in game "bloodied note"

what if Larian takes away Gortash's greasy looking final fantasy hair next, or his big tired eye bags or his haggard middle aged dictator gone to seed face? then what?
you gonna kick me in the nuts too?

I Love You, Franc
"You are a treasure, and I should like to hold you in my arms and whisk you about! How you would laugh, Franc. Of course, people would say we're in love. And I do. I do love you, Franc. I love any man willing to birth a little more slithering, wet malice into the world."
Franc Peartree receives a certain letter from the newly appointed Archduke of Baldur's Gate. It includes a request to meet him urgently at Flymm's Cargo.
(aka I am being very normal about Peartree-Gate)

I never really wanted a Gortash romance, like yeah it'd be fun but there's far more things the game needs done to it than adding more content that would just end up being incomplete. And, I think that is what is upsetting me more than the loss of the Franc letters. Act three is still a mess, Wyll still has less content than literally every other companion even his quest in act three isn't even really his it's a Balduran lore dump. Halsin is still pointless past act two and feels like he's just there to bang, and Minthara still is a mess. There's still content from EA just sitting around, voice lines that make no sense, pieces of content that go no where and are entirely pointless and instead of addressing any of that, Larian seems more focused on changing little things and sanding down their own characters. They feel like they don't even have confidence in their own writing anymore, it's not EA so I don't see why these things are really necessary other than to try to please everyone and end up pleasing no one. Removing the lanceboard scene when the guy in question literally only has eyes for himself, to the point I wouldn't be shocked he has a mirror on his ceiling to watch himself get railed by himself. He has no interest in Mol in any way other than to pluck her soul because he's a devil. He's just gross like that. Then to make Lae'zel nicer, like sure I like the changes for approval I guess but certain changes end up feeling more like they're fan servicey and less about actually improving the game. I understand the outcry when people thought Larian had changed Gale for a moment because Larian keeps doing things exactly like that, albeit in small ways. All I really want is for Act three to have impact and not be as flat and pointless as it is, for the main two villains to actually be villains instead of feeling like cheap tiny lil mini bosses when Raphael gets to feel like a real boss and he's not even main content he's entirely optional. Losing the slithering wet malice thing isn't even that big of a deal to me what is though is the fact they're willing to completely give up character personality and not even address that they're making these changes in the patch notes. It feels like I have to go in and take stock of every letter and every book and every dialogue option before it inevitably gets changed because Larian has no spine when it comes to their characters and their writing. It just sucks, it doesn't feel like this is making way for any new grand content it doesn't feel like anything but sanitizing at this point. I don't even really understand what could come from making Gortash bland boring tyrant no.56093 because yeah anyone could write that, it makes him entirely less memorable and I hate that because Orin and Gortash really deserve so much more than that, they deserve to be as fleshed out as Ketheric thorm, but instead they're just fucking jokes. If that was Larian's goal well I think they succeeded. TLDR; Act three is just incredibly unpolished, and I don't see why kissing animations and changing small little flavor letters, and making characters nicer and this and that really solves any of the actual problems the game still has. Sure it's nice, but I'm tired of seeing this be what the game has ultimately devolved to. Really hope I'm wrong, hope there's big content on the horizon, maybe the upper city making a come back, but I'm not gonna hold my breath.
Edit: And to be real here, I still like Gortash, I'd still love a romance if one ever happened. It's just I'd really like it to be thought out and not just well thrown together and spit out really fast. I just really want the game to be complete and it's best cause I really love it.

just one kinda old oneshot (franc x enver)
this is a couple months dated, but i still enjoy its premise! it’s almost like i predicted the death of the fruity franc letters 😭
enjoy!
rating: teen (maybe mature if i try to pick it back up- i’ll write spicer stuff :])
word count: ~1100
Chapter I - The Invitation
I’d assumed this shipment for the militia would be some of my scrappiest work to date. Apparently, in the eyes of Lord Gortash, I thought falsely.
I was practically giddy at the thought of joining Lord Gortash in Wyrm’s Rock. His fortress loomed like an apex over Baldur’s Gate, even if it hadn’t been in the center of the city itself. The once-marvelous Sorcerous Sundries was a brick in a shallow basin of tar, compared to his fashioned lair.
All of Baldur’s Gate hadn’t appreciated my work before the Lord’s election as Archduke. I was ‘too sniveling’ of a man according to Ravengard and his cronies. He was a petulant tool, and I’d known it for as long as I’d made my bed in the city. I’m glad a true man of the people stepped up to the plate.
I’d tucked a note away in my pocket, one I was personally delivered via Steel Watcher. And now, by Bane’s bollocks, I was being escorted to Wyrm’s Rock by the same guard.
Its plated, faceless transmitter echoed the same message it had once before as I walked out from my abode: “You have been formally invited to the audience chamber by Lord Gortash. He requires your full and willing participation.”
Cryptic. I’d expect nothing less from Lord Gortash, in a sense.
I wasn’t worried by his serious demeanor. It only made him a better leader, and a much better businessman. Even so, anxiety still welled in my stomach with the fact I’d be meeting Lord Gortash so casually as a celebration would be.
The Steel Watcher had guided me through a vaguely sandstone archway, into two sets of massive wooden doors. Behind the second, was a flight of stairs. One the Watcher had me traverse alone.
After I’d reached the top, I’d clapped eyes along the scene I was expecting the least of all my own possibilities. A fine wooden table, offering samplings of deep wines, table grapes, and fine cheeses alike. No Steel Watchers nor Black Hand members in sight, not even Fist guards.
The only occupant of the room was him.
The first thing I’d noticed was a long, sturdy-looking halberd. A broad, oaken handle with signature floral engravings, coupled by a freshly-whetted blade sharp enough to cut into marrow?
It was easily one of my own. And its pole was being cradled betwixt his thighs ever so playfully.
Reaching upwards, he ran a finger along a portion of the engravings.
“Enchanting, isn’t it?”
He smiled in a seemingly dreamy solace while sizing up my blade. His voice was liquid chocolate: smooth on the ears but containing just enough tang to determine his authority.
“One thousand halberds, one thousand glaives, and five hundred greatswords. And who have I to thank for completing such a massive order?”
He chuckled in a manner only a temptsome fiend would. He moved the halberd to one hand, using the other to take a hearty dose of his own glass of wine.
“Who, Franc. I want to hear you say it with your own tongue.”
I felt an anxious lilt rise in my throat, which I quickly suppressed.
“Me, my Lord. It was I who assembled them in five tendays.”
“Good, Franc. Very good.”
He set down his glass, once again placing the halberd between his legs.
“But come, this is your own celebration. I daren’t keep you so far from me, for all the good you’ve done me with. Cozy up to a glass, will you?”
He spoke with such an authentic, magnetizing respect. One that I was deeply enamored by, and thricely agreed with. With little effort and a bit of charm, he could more or less convince me into doing whatever bidding he wished of me. And I knew it all too well.
I walked the audience hall’s scarlet carpet to take in my full appreciation. My audience.
And nosy my audience was. Lord Gortash seemed to size me up like a fat lamb heading to a slaughterhouse: filled with a ripe, patient expectation.
I had never seen the Lord so closely. Dusky skin, the beginnings of a beard, a few stray hairs being intercepted by a cheeky scar embedding his chin. His ebony hair was playfully fluffed in a middle part, with deep steely eyes to match.
He was aged, but not enough to no longer be handsome. His face got him all that he wanted and more, and I could see why.
I took a sample of a rich, thick red lain out on the table. It was surprisingly sweet and nutty, with a rather bitingly earthen aftertaste.
“Good choice,” he started, “a man after my own heart.”
“A fan of reds?”
“Absolutely. All sorts of reds. Wines, velvets, satin…”
He trailed off, and ran a careful finger along the edge of my blade.
“An uncleansed weapon of war.”
“And why should such trophies of battle ever be placed into the hands of those who are not willing to carry out its previous legacy?”
Lord Gortash seemed to bounce his brow in such a prospect, as if calculating my words.
“Then come, Franc. Take a look at this trophy; this weapon. Tell me just how much bloodshed you think it’s deserving of.”
I nodded quickly, stepping past the sampling table and planting a foot between his own. As soon as my own grip had replaced his own on the halberd, he’d used his free grasp to lift me onto his lap.
“Lord Gortash!-“
My voice had hitched in my throat, causing me to pause before paying any attention to my own halberd. My eyes were on him, and they dared not shift focus.
“Very good, Franc. Obedience will get you far with one such as myself.”
His gilded hand slid its way past the pole, gently grasping my jaw. His fingers were warm, warm as the city’s sunkissed pavement. His bronzed jewelry was slightly cooler, but not by much.
He lifted my head ever so slightly upwards, forcing me to reposition my own eyes back onto his.
“You’ve been ever so darling in carrying out my demands. I have more for you.”
He effortlessly pulled my face to his, bouncing his lap as I practically drowned in his lips. My hands grasped his shoulders instinctively, his hand cheekily tapping my lower back in a rhythmic tandem.
He tasted like wines all too fancy for my own wallet; fruits too sweet for my own pallet.
But gods, did it taste good on him. I needed this tenfold. And soon.

Comprehensive Dead Three Timeline
Outdated! I've made a new timeline!
Obviously there's varying amounts of speculation here, but I believe this is as close to a reasonable order of events as can be achieved with current, in-game information

Gortash learns about the Crown of Karsus while a prisoner of Raphael
1470s
Gortash escapes the House of Hope
Gortash gets involved with black market arms dealing
Durge begins their serial killing spree in Baldur’s Gate
The Emperor dominates Duke Stelmane
1480s
Gortash establishes a cult of Bane in Baldur’s Gate
Gortash approaches Durge about an alliance
Hall of Wonders test mission - Durge gets Bhaalist memorabilia - Gortash gets a bunch of Gondian designs - Durge & Gortash get companionship
Gortash trades Karlach to Zariel for infernal machinery & iron
Baldur’s Gate’s Beloved Ranger statue goes missing
Gortash recruits Franc Peartree to distribute infernal iron weapons
Gortash moves against the Zhentarim & Knights of the Shield
Wyll Ravengard enters pact with Mizora, leaves Baldur’s Gate
1490s
Dead Three made aware of the Crown of Karsus (most likely informed by Gortash) - Gortash becomes Bane’s Chosen - Durge becomes Bhaal’s chosen - Gortash & Durge are instructed to recruit Ketheric
Gortash tells Durge about the Crown of Karsus
They visit Ketheric and learn of the illithid colony under Moonrise
Gortash & Durge visit the House of Hope (for intel on Mephistar?)
Gortash & Durge raid Mephistar - They get the Crown of Karsus - They get the book on the accelerated grand design
Gortash captures the Emperor
Gortash & Durge return to Moonrise - Their identities are kept secret from Ketheric’s people - Durge impresses the Moonrise Gnolls, but not Steelclaw - Ketheric yells at Durge in the throne room for unknown reason
Durge proposes their plan to the Elder Brain who accepts
Raid on the illithid colony - Durge puts the Crown on the Elder Brain - Orin gets Durge alone during the raid & stabs them in the head - Orin tadpoles Durge, making them the first True Soul - Orin leaves Durge in an illithid pod - Orin tells the Chosen she now speaks for the Temple of Bhaal - Orin likely told Gortash, Ketheric, and Balthazar something vague about Durge’s disappearance being related to Durge’s religious crisis and let their imaginations do the rest
1492
Durge breaks out of their pod & is found by Kressa Bonedaughter
Gortash gets weird and intense with unethical experiments - Some futzing to get the tadpoles to consistently remain in stasis - This is when the name ‘True Souls’ gets coined - Extremely questionable fun with brains - Getting the Absolute’s voice sorted out - Tadpoling his parents - Poorly conceived experiments on children & their parents
Isobel is resurrected by the Dead Three
Minsc captured by Absolutists at recruitment rally in the Undercity
Minthara Baenre is recruited by Orin and Ketheric
Gortash has the Iron Throne converted to hold hostages
Gortash presents prototype Steel Watcher to the city council
Jaheira tracks cult to shadow-cursed land, meets Isobel
Elturel falls into Avernus
The brain sends the Chosen dreams about the Astral Prism
Gortash researches the Prism, finds out that Vlaakith has it
Gortash tells Ketheric to send a team to get the Prism - A nautiloid piloted by the Emperor and other illithid is sent - Kressa’s husband arranged for Durge to be on the nautiloid
Gortash deploys Steel Watch in Lower/Outer City
At this point Elturel is no longer in Avernus
Nautiloid picks up Shadowheart & the Prism from Astral Plane
Nautiloid picks up Lae’zel (?)
Nautiloid picks up Gale (?) & Astarion in Baldur's Gate
Nautiloid picks up Karlach & Wyll in Avernus
Nautiloid crashes, game begins

Baldur's Gate 3 Act 3 spoilers under the cut
Tumblr media
I have not seen anyone talk about these notes you find about Gortash so I'm going to post them!
Tumblr media
So if you go to the Flymm store you'll meet Enver's parents and you can learn by using the tadpole that they sold him to a warlock. But it seems that as he got older he went into the smuggling business and was already showing how controlling he will become. Looks like someone tried to warn other smugglers, but clearly that failed horribly.
You find this note under Franc Peartree's house and I'm going to read way too deeply in this note lol
"Weapon distribution continues like a parent saving their drowning child: swimmingly"
Ugh ok when I read this I thought 'does he just think constantly about how his parents threw him to the wolves. is it a subconscious thing??' I wouldn't be surprised if he was the type to think that he wound up better off without his parents and that he may have actually choose this life anyway. But in the back of his head he may also wonder what life would've been like if he had loving parents ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ who knows
Then one of my fav lines:
"You are a treasure, and I should like to hold you in my arms and whisk you about! How you would laugh, Franc! Of course, people would say we're in love. And I do. I do love you, Franc. I love any man willing to birth a little more slithering, wet malice into the world. By sending out my weapons, putting them in groping, willing fingers, you've done just that."
Ok there are 3 things that came to my mind.
1. Queer Gortash? Is he being facetious?
2. Maybe Gortash is being chummy and him and Franc have known each other for awhile?
3. This is what really made me think though was that Gortash for all his tyranny has never been the type to revel in malice. Like ye he knows he's a tyrant but he wants slaves, he doesn't want more bloodshed in the streets nor does he usually talk so......poetically.
Tumblr media
You know who does though? Orin. Especially since Franc ends up being a part of one of her assassinations. Get the guy to make more weapons then silence him?
Maybe? Maybe I've pegged Enver all wrong but who knows. I'm probably going to go back to Franc's house to see if my hypothesis is right.
And this last note I have has been my absolute fav that you can find when freeing Florrick. It's in one of the jail cells with a skeleton.
It was a very nice to initially refer to Enver as, Enver Flymm.
I don't know who Vance Farnol is but he seemed to know a crap ton about Gortash.
Farnol doesn't seem to know that at one point Enver was sold into warlock/demon slavery so maybe his POV is that he saw Enver as an urchin boy with his shitty parents.
Doesn't see him for awhile. Then sees him as a smuggler in the streets.
Enver joins a gang and that's when he changes his last name. Was it recommend as being a new member of the gang? Did people automatically think of the shoe shop when hearing Flymm? Was it more for Enver to distance himself from them?
He eventually becomes the Kingpin and seems to call himself an independent entrepreneur
Rivals? All my rivals are dead. I have not gotten to Gortash's boss fight yet but no one has to tell me this man can't actually fight. Is he probably good with a dagger and a fist fight? Possibly, but it's more likely he's good at weaseling out of situations and getting other people to do the dirty work.
Zhent's Days is Past, I missed that part in Act 1 where there's a sidequest to help those guys? So maybe I missed something in their hideout which would give their POV to this situation.
Then it seems he strikes a contract/deal with the god Bane and then strikes an Oath with Orin
"Not Even Everything is Enough" Someone never told Gortash that acquiring the world is never going to fill that empty black hole of a heart he has
And then we have him working with Kethric, getting the Gondians to serve him and then his most hammy line
Call me LORD Gortash
I love how there's so much depth to this character, makes me sad there aren't actually a lot more scenes with him. I know romancing him would be almost impossible but just having more scenes would be wonderful.
Anyways thanks for reading and share your thoughts!!
