Random, but if you feel comfortable could you share your skincare and haircare routine?💗 ps, what’s your favorite candle scent?
you’re so cute, this is such a cute question 🥹 I don’t have one set candle scent I love, but I am a big fan of calming smells like lavendar, pear, vanilla, apple & cinnamon. I love any candles by north muse or honeymoon apothecary I truly have never had them go wrong with a candle smell.
for my skin care, I tend to get dry skin, so in the morning I just wash my face once with a moisturising cleanser. I use a caffeinated eye cream but truly I have no set one, I’ve never found any one better than the other so it’s whatever I can get my hands on when I need more. I then use balance me radiance facial oil, just a couple of drops patted into my skin. and a dash of niacinamide. I give it a minute or two for those to soak in, making my bed and doing a lip scrub or something while I wait, then I moisturise and lastly suncream. I use a little bit of scented body butter on my neck, and everyone always tells me I smell so good.
at night, I use a cream cleanser if I’ve worn makeup that day, then I double cleanse. sometimes I just use the same as my morning cleanser twice, sometimes I use it once, then inkey list salicylic acid cleanser. I use my eye cream again, then if I’ve used the salicylic cleanser, I also use some salicylic drops patted into the skin. I’ve also started using a retinoid twice a week recently! I do tuesday and saturday nights. then I moisturise to finish off. I also put body butter on my neck and chest again.
every sunday before/after my shower, I do a facemask. it could be any of these:
pineapple enzyme mask
hemp mask
tumeric mask
as for hair care, pretty simple! I pretty much just use any nourishing hair masks I’ve got in at the time, as long as it’s good and slicked up. I usually plait my hair once it’s all in and then leave it for a few hours, while I do a workout or make dinner or something. I use leave-in conditioner, heat-protect spray and I use a knock-off wella bond repair oil on my hair after I dry it.
ps: I like to do my night skincare before I dry my hair, then do a nice sheet mask to lock moisture back in after my face has gotten blasted with all the hot air from drying. I find it’s really nice.
other products I also love:
laneige lip mask — I swear this is so nourishing.
glossier hot cocoa lip balm — I bought this because I saw it trending and I literally wore it every day in winter I can’t wait to buy the 'strawberry' one they just released for summer.
palmer's cocoa butter — I use this stuff on any dry/sensitive skin. you can literally put it on your feet, elbows, scabs, flaky skin?? I even put it under my nose when I get a cold so my nose doesn’t get sore from blowing it so much 🤧
'sweet tooth' perfume — I am a sabrina carpenter girly through n' through.
nyx lip oils — they're perfect. no more needs to be said.
vanilla body spray — I’m a vanilla girly, can you tell? it’s just such a good base smell for so many perfumes and scents, and it’s so nice? I get a lot of compliments about my scent.
hawaiian tropic body spray — I like to wear this in the summer, it still works with the vanilla underlayer, and everyone goes crazy for it.
snow fairy spray — this is what I smell like the whole month of december.
inkey list tripeptide plumping lip balm — this is my obsession lately, I wear it allllll the time.

what calms you down?
what’s something you’re excited for?
say three nice things about yourself (three physical and three non-physical).
what song makes you feel better?
what’s your feel-good movie?
what’s your favorite candle scent?
what flower would you like to be given?
1) box breathing is my go to when I'm anxious. really any rhythmic breathing works best for me, but I don't feel like keeping track of multiple numbers so everything being 4 is great :) 2) I'm excited to go to the bookstore today! It's independent bookstore day today, so they're having an event with raffles and sales and my family is going! I think this is the 3rd weekend in a row we've gone to the bookstore 3) Physical: I love what I've done with my hair, how my boobs look in low cut tops, and the character my skin-picking scars/scabs/marks give me. Non-physical: I love how much I care for other people and try to positively impact them, how much I enjoy learning and strive to continue to learn, and the effort I've put in and continue to put in to be a better person. 4) Depends! I rotate through songs a lot, so at any given point in time I'm listening to a different one on repeat. For example, the Plastic Doll remix by Lady Gaga, Ashnikko, and Oscar Scheller has been on loop for a while. But a couple that've pretty routinely stuck around are: Superkid by Livingston, Cosmic Love by Florence + the Machine, and Mouthwash by OSTON (along with others) 5) Answered this one here! It's Pan's Labyrinth, but another movie I like is A Monster Calls. 6) I'm not sure, I don't use a lot of candles. There was this one Honey Pear scented one I found once that was pretty nice, and of the common scents I like the cinnamon/apple/spice ones. But I don't have strong opinions on it--except that Sandalwood isn't my favorite. Unfortunately it's my mom's favorite scent and she loves buying sandalwood incense 7) I don't have a specific flower in mind, but when being given flowers, I prefer them to be potted. I don't like being given cut flowers because they just die. But potted plants? 10/10, even though I'm not the most plant savvy person
That was many questions, but very fun to answer, so thanks!

How To Help Your Trees Survive The Summer Heat
How to Assist a Tree in Fighting Summer Issues
Summer presents several problems to trees, ranging from extreme heat and drought to assault by other living creatures. Many things are beyond our control, yet we can do a lot to aid our trees. Watering and providing excellent soil for a tree to flourish in may assist strengthen its natural defenses. However, certain challenges, including non-native invading insects and illnesses, indicate that trees will need greater active intervention from humans.
Trees, like all living things, are subject to illness. Rain and wind may transmit germs and fungus from one surface to another over many springs and summers. This includes the leaves from your yard’s trees. Bacteria and fungus may also live in soil and harm roots. Whatever the reason, it’s critical to understand how to spot disease, prevent it, and treat it in order to preserve your tree and prevent it from spreading.
There are several things you can do during the summer to guarantee that each of your trees is healthy and ready for the season. Here are some methods for preparing a tree for summer so that it not only flourishes this summer, but for many more to come.
To better understand how to recognize and avoid tree problems, consider the diseases and insects that are most likely to affect your environment. Common Tree Diseases in the Summer
Here are three common tree diseases that appear in the early summer. Each has its own set of causes and symptoms, although the leaves are usually the first to show indications of common spring tree illnesses.
Scab on an apple
Apple scab, perhaps best recognized as a disease that affects crab apple, apple, pear, and serviceberry trees, is a fungal disease that may spread to the leaves as well as the fruit. An apple scab infection is more prone to occur when a tree is exposed to chilly, wet weather and gloomy circumstances in the spring, just as the leaves begin to flower.
In early summer, apple scab appears as a black spot that resembles watercolor paint spreading on paper. The sores spread during the summer and might finally damage the leaves. Some leaves will become yellow as a result of the procedure, but not all.
Fireblight
Insects may also transmit illness. Fireblight arises when insects are drawn to oozing from diseased trees and then spread the virus to neighboring trees. The illness may also be spread by wind. It is critical to detect a fire blight infection before it spreads to the tree’s trunk.
Keep an eye out for fire blight in the leaves of trees. Infected trees’ leaves may droop as though weighted down after a strong shower and will even begin to shrivel. They will become brown and crispy as the illness spreads, and the bark will seem cracked and scorched.
Wilt of Oak
The fungal disease oak wilt damages the water-conducting channels of oak trees. The disease may spread from one tree to another through grafts, which are connections between tree roots. It is also transmitted by little beetles, which feed on the sap that oozes out of new wounds and take up spores from diseased trees. They then deposit spores on uninfected tree wounds. This is why we don’t trim oaks in the spring and summer: fewer wounds equals a lower risk of oak wilt transmission.
Although oak wilt affects all native oaks, symptoms vary. The virus spreads swiftly in red and pin oaks and is typically incurable. The leaves of bur and white oaks will take on an autumn look, with some scattered browning and withering. If we suspect oak wilt in a white or bur oak, we may collect a sample and send it to a lab for analysis before making a treatment choice.
Insect Pests of Summer Trees
When deciding how to prepare a tree for spring, it is critical to first determine whether or not insects have made a tree their home. Here are three varieties of tree insects that are often observed in the spring.
Emerald Ash Borer (EAB)
The emerald ash borer, scientifically known as Agrilus planipennis, attacks and may destroy all of our native ash trees. With over a billion ash trees in Minnesota alone, this insect has already caused enormous damage to our tree stock. The ash tree’s health deteriorates as the infestation spreads, and branches begin to break. When the situation becomes critical, trees must be removed to prevent them from failing and causing harm to persons or property.
Emerald ash borers make holes when they escape the tree; little D-shaped holes may be seen if you look attentively. The bark above the larval galleries dies and sometimes splits apart, exposing S-shaped tunnels under the bark.
Mites from spiders
Check for spider mites, which feed on the fluid within the needles, if you have conifers. Each year, many generations of spider mites emerge, each lasting 15 to 20 days.
Because spider mites eat on the oldest needles first, inspect the most mature needles for speckling or flecking. As the feeding proceeds, the needles will turn brown and fall off the tree.
Scale of Pine Needles
Pine needle scale, which may be found on pines, Douglas Fir, Spruce, and Juniper trees, is a pest. Scales drain the sap from pine needles, causing cell damage.
When determining how to determine whether your tree is diseased, check for white scabs on the needles and the plant’s stem.
Make your soil ready
Tree fertilization is also a vital factor, and it begins with your soil. Many homeowners prefer to aerate their lawns each year to keep grass roots healthy; trees, on the other hand, may benefit from a similar but more thorough operation that uses compressed air. We may apply an organic, slow-release fertilizer while we’re loosening up the compacted soil.
Fertilization occurs naturally in forests when fallen leaves and other tree waste decompose and rot. This process happens far less often in manicured settings, so your trees miss out on some of the natural fertilizing cycle. Adding nutrients and organic matter to the soil will help your trees develop in the greatest soil possible, keeping your trees looking and flourishing wonderful.
Vineland Tree Care is a well-known tree service in the Twin Cities metro region. If you’re wondering how to prepare your tree for autumn, give us a call and one of our professional arborists will discuss with you about your individual requirements as well as the needs of your tree. Request an estimate for tree fertilization or other services you require. We can’t wait to get your tree ready for autumn!

OMG! I planted my trees three years ago now, and they were little sticks that barely flowered and that struggled to grow decent leaves. (The two pear trees got leaf scale that made all the leaves curl into sad brown rolls.) But this year the three plum trees were clouds of pink and white, and then when they went over, the pear trees blossomed and put out the most perfect little green leaves. The cherry is just starting to come out and will be in full flower once the pears have gone over, by which time hopefully the apple and the medlar tree will be out.
It's basically going to be three months of blossom, is what I'm saying. I am so, so delighted. Admittedly it took three years to get here, but from here it's only going to get bigger and better. I can't wait, this gardening lark is awesome!
(I cleared all the fallen leaves from around the pear trees and burned them, and then I added a good layer of compost around their bases last autumn, and I like to think that that contributed to them recovering from the leaf scab. At any rate it contributed to how much I feel damn proud of them, clever little things.)
Last year there was one sickly pear, one ripe cherry, five plums and a good double handful of medlars as my harvest. This year - with more blossom - I'm looking forward to more fruit too :)

Has scars from the original synth that fascinate her. Her first scar was a ripper to the collarbone. Average height at 5 5″. Pear-shaped, friend-shaped. Hair does not move. Ever. Body hair focused solely on her armpits. Dry skin and lips, sometimes bleeds from it cracking. Pudge to her stomach, very curvy. Has a tattoo on her butt she doesn't know about. Keeps her nails as flawless as she can.
Preston: Stands at 5 9". Biggest scars are on his face, chest, and arms. Has a mole on his right thumb. Body hair almost entirely on his legs and hands. Cannot grow a beard for the life of him. Muscular from years of hard work. 6-pack. Hair and nails have dirt in them at all times from trying to tame a temperamental Mutfruit tree. Scabs on fingers from chewing nails. Has a skin tag on his eye that drives him crazy. The worst tan lines known to man.
X6: Smooth as silk. 6 1". Entirely lean muscle, built like a panther. No blemishes besides scars. Has a burn scars from a Gatling Laser, a gash from a ripper, and a section of mottled skin from a Mutant Suicider going off near him. Body can be mapped out using nothing but squares and diamonds. Everything is sharp and pronounced. Very cracky bones, needs to pop his joints all the time. Doesnt sweat easily, but when he does, looks like he just went swimming. Nails are kept orderly. Once considered growing a beard - saw the scruff and hated it. Pronounced veins and Adam's Apple.

lychee, lemon, papaya, mango, persimmon, kiwi, kumquat, cherry, plum, key lime, pear, grape, strawberry, blueberry, cantaloupe, honeydew, mango, freakin TOMATO…help I can’t stop!! RAISIN! PRUNE! DATE! no, that one’s bad.
🍐🍊🍋🍌🍉🍇🍓🫐🍈🍒🍑🥭🍍🥥🥝🍅
🍏🍎
Oh gosh lol. So many choices! I think we have a few too many red-haired Apple-sonas, at least for now. But Lychee is looking very interesting indeed. :)
Tumblr media
For those of you that don’t know, these right here are lychee fruits! The outside is this little spiky shell and when you bite it, it cracks open and the inside is this really soft fruity center (and like a giant seed as you can see lol). It kinda tastes like a pear to me but the internet says it has more of a “tutti fruity” flavor.” It’s just like a really soft flavor in case you were interested xD.
Quick CW: Cuts, bruises, food, mentioned kidnapping, mentioned torture, mentioned recapture, scars, starvation mention, mentioned mouth sewn shut, Stockholm Syndrome, threat of death (not a death threat, more of a looming “this could happen if...”),
But anyway, onto Lychee the Apple-sona!
Introducing Lychee!
Like a lychee fruit, this Apple-sona certainly looks tough on the outside. His hair is bright pink like inside of the lychee shells pictured, he has tiny circular scars above his upper lip and under his bottom lip from when his mouth was sewn shut, exactly twenty-one, and he has a thicker scar that runs from behind his ear to under his right eye. Of course, those are just the ones on his face, not even counting the faint collar of scar tissue and scabbing around his neck and the thousands of cuts and bruises littering the rest of his body.
Said shortly, he looks like he’s been through some things. Which he has, yes. He’s suffered a kidnapping, daily torture, an escape, a recapturing, worse torture, and finally this second escape, which leads him to the back alley of a flower shop in small town far from home—more importantly, far from his torturers.
Lychee w/ the Salesman and Clay
You read that right. Torturers, plural. In this AU, Lychee’s Clay and the salesman work together, and Lychee just happened to be one of two other unlucky victims.
Three years Lychee’s spent with them. Three years of pure sadistic torture. But three years is long enough to teach yourself to pick a lock, and it’s certainly long enough to understand the schedules of your captors well enough to time your escape.
It’s also long enough ti understand that being recaptured a second time is likely not an ordeal Lychee will survive. Hence the flower shop in this small everybody-knows-everybody kind of town, far from the two of them.
Lychee w/ Jimmy
One thing to note about the lychee fruit is that its soft fruity yet somewhat floral flavor means that it pairs quite nicely with other floral flavors, like rose! And Lychee... really likes flowers.
Of course, it’s sheer coincidence that he ends up walking past the flower shop when Jimmy is coming in for work. Jimmy’s walking in with his little lunch box and all of a sudden he just sees this tall, half-starved scarred guy peering around from the back alley. His first instinct is to book it--just run into his store and lock the door behind him and wait until he leaves.
But Jimmy’s a softie, and this guy is just staring. After a little debate, Jimmy lets him inside and hopes he’s made the right choice.
Of course, Lychee walks in and he’s immediately awestruck by the huge assortments of flowers in the little building. And skipping ahead because we’re not trying to write a drabble here (but maybe later 👀), Jimmy’s actually kinda shocked that this guy is into flowers and he’s actually really got an eye for them.
While Lychee gets himself together, Jimmy lets him stay in the back of the shop for a while. He starts bringing lunch enough for two. And then, after a week of suggesting wonderful flower assortments and helping Jimmy get the shop ready in the morning, Jimmy offers him a job.
Lychee is terrified that the salesman and Clay will find him, but the thought of getting to work here, in a flower shop, is just too good a prospect to pass up. He agrees.
And he has a really great time until Clay and the salesman inevitably show up to take him back.
It’s a whole thing. They show up at the flower shop and Lychee freezes up when he sees them, and Jimmy has to take over and then pulls Lychee to the back room when they’re gone and asks what the heck just happened.
And poor Lychee totally breaks down because they’re scared, so very scared, and Jimmy promises to do everything he can do help him.
And then they definitely hug because while I am sometimes merciless, I am also soft for this boy.
Example two of me being a softie, Lychee could totally run far away and Clay and the salesman might never find him again but he can’t not be with Jimmy (wait, do I like them together romantically in this AU?? I might lol) so the two of them are definitely going to figure out a way to keep Lychee from ever going back there. :)
Lychee w/ the Apple-sonas
Lychee’s a little bit more reserved than most of the other Apple-sonas, but he has no problems speaking when he’s spoken to and starting conversations when he really feels like it. He really likes Star Fruit (Peach) because of how passionate he is in particular, and he and Radish actually talk a little, too, although pretty sparsely most times. Almost all the Apple-sonas come to him for flower advice, Coconut being the most reluctant, but Lychee just gathers them all around one night and gives them good, generic advice for putting together a great flower bouquet because he really doesn’t like getting into the specifics of their infatuation with their Clays.
Okay, off topic but I don’t like raisins lol. Like, just be grapes?? I don’t-- Anyway XD.

Heartbreak Hotel (d.s.) - Chapter Twenty-Five
A/N I’ll Be Okay by Why Don’t We is this chapters song...once I realized it lined up I didn’t even bother looking for an Elvis one hehe
Tumblr media
Daniel’s face seemed to calm down after a week. He was still obviously bruised and his lip housed a bit of a scab as it healed from where it was split but he was otherwise generally fine. He hated going out in public because everyone gave him strange looks – who wouldn’t stare at the obviously beaten kid walking around – but his mother refused to let him simply stay home for the remainder of summer. Which is how he found himself at the grocery store with her one early afternoon, following her around with his head down to avoid too much attention. He hated grocery shopping but his mother insisted that he actually get some fresh air rather than hiding away in his room.
Every day was the same routine for Daniel; having to deal with the near constant reminder of Loretta and what she was eating for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and everything in between. He couldn’t catch a break and it was emotionally exhausting.
“Do you want red or green apples, love?
Daniel glanced up at his mother at the other side of the shopping cart and she held out one of each choice. He shrugged.
“Come on now, Daniel. It’s not terribly evil of me to want to spend some time with you before you leave for college in a few days.” his mother sighed.
“It is when I look like I had a run-in with Rocky Marciano.” Daniel grumbled.
“Oh goodness, stop that. You look just as handsome as ever.” his mother tisked, “Now: red or green?”
Daniel sighed softly and answered just to humour her, “Red.”
She smiled thankfully and started bagging a few red apples from the table they were standing beside. Daniel haphazardly scanned the other produce next to him, lazily dragging his finger over the pile of oranges and across to the pears while keeping his flat expression downcast. The grocery store speaker crackled and an announcement for someone to take a phone call rang through, drawing Daniel’s attention up to the ceiling. When he looked back down, his eyes caught on a girl standing on the other side of the table of produce. He froze.
Loretta was already staring at him blankly but when their eyes met she hurriedly looked away again, distracting herself with gathering a few pears for her mother who was stood a few feet down. She briefly glanced back up at him.
“Hi.” Daniel spoke hesitantly.
“Hello.” she answered politely, focusing on tying the plastic bag of pears in her hand.
Daniel stared at her, unmoving.
Loretta looked back up at him and then glanced farther down the table to their mothers who were busy shopping on their own. She looked at him again and pulled a tight smile before moving over a few steps to set the pears in her mother’s grocery cart.
“I’m gonna wait in the car, Mum.” she said softly.
With a nod from her mother, Loretta turned to head down the aisle towards the front doors of the grocery store but Daniel rushed around the table after her before she could get too far.
“Loretta, wait.” he grabbed her wrist to stop her, that familiar warm electricity shooting up his arm by just the touch of his hand on her skin.
She turned with a sharp gasp and yanked her arm away from him, “Don’t touch me.”
“I’m sorry.” Daniel said quickly, gesturing down one of the smaller aisles to talk more privately, away from their mothers who had now started talking seeing that their children obviously knew each other.
Loretta sighed heavily but shifted into the second aisle, eyeing Daniel as he followed her and stood next to her in front of a shelf of various cereals. She stared at him for a moment, as if not wanting to speak first.
Her stares were obvious and Daniel answered her question before she could ask, “Your boyfriend beat me up.”
Loretta cleared her throat nervously, “I know.”
“You know?” Daniel frowned.
“Yeah I cleaned your blood of his fists.”
“And you’re still with him?” Daniel asked sharply.
“I love him.”
Daniel laughed humourlessly and raked both hands through his hair, “Bullshit, Loretta! That’s absolute bullshit!”
“You can’t tell me who I can or can’t love, Daniel. And I told you to stay away from me.” she snapped, starting to walk away from him again.
Daniel rushed right after her, calling loudly, desperately, “The universe is going to be literally pushing us together now that we’ve met and you know we can’t outsmart that.”
Loretta flung around to face him, “Well I’m going to try.”
“Loretta-” Daniel breathed.
“I can’t break Corbyn’s heart.”
“Lori! He nearly broke my face.” Daniel said strongly. “He’s a violent person and what if he turns on you next, huh? Then what? If I can’t take him there’s not way in hell you’d be able to take him.”
“How dare you say that. Corbyn would never hit me.” Loretta seethed, before starting to turn away again.
“The only reason he hit me was because I told him what you told me.” Daniel said quickly.
She stopped in place and turned back to him, “And you told him what exactly?”
“That you’re not his soulmate and I know that he’s not yours!”
“That is not your place to speak on, Daniel!”
“Well, dammit, Loretta! What do you expect me to do?!” Daniel shouted.
A few older women who were shopping in the aisle they were in looked over but he didn’t give them a second glance.
“Do you expect me to just not fight for you?” Daniel protested strongly. “Do you expect me to just find some other random girl who isn’t you? Who isn’t as funny or smart or beautiful or incredible as you? Every single day I am reminded of you no matter how much I try to forget you! I know you had cereal with strawberries for breakfast this morning and last night at nearly midnight you had two oatmeal cookies and how that’s always your go-to late night snack. I can’t function without being biologically reminded of you all the time! I can’t just move on because it will literally drive me insane! My heart beats for you, Loretta; it was literally made for you. You are my perfect match and I’m yours and we can’t just deny that.”
“Daniel.” Loretta sighed softly, taking a step back from him.
“Don’t do this to us, Lori.” Daniel said through his teeth, his forming tears burning his eyes as he fought them back, “It will be goddamn torture for the rest of our lives if you just walk away. The universe will be forcing us together as much as it possibly can and you can try to avoid it but you can’t. Look at us already; seeing each other everywhere. It’s killing me, Loretta. It is fucking torture.”
“You don’t understand.” Loretta whispered. “Corbyn’s been with me for years and I love him so much.”
“If he loves you, he will understand this.” Daniel waved his hand between the both of them.
Loretta dropped her gaze to the floor and took a shaking inhale.
“What can you possibly be scared about?” Daniel pushed on, “It feels like we’ve known each other forever. It’s so easy with you, Lori. Please.”
“My parents aren’t soulmates and they have gotten on just fine.” Loretta said softly. “You will too.”
Daniel audibly whimpered as his tears tried to fight through his suppression, “Do you not remember the concert? How it felt so right; so freaking magical? It was the best night of my whole life and I want it to be like that every day. I want to be with you every day.”
“Please, Daniel. Stop.” Loretta sighed, holding her face in her hands. “I can’t do this. I can’t just pick between you. You make it sound like it’s easy but it’s not!”
“How can you just lie to each other like this!” Daniel protested. “Your relationship is literally built on lies and manipulation!”
She took a step back from him, “Don’t say that.”
“Lori.” Daniel breathed.
She stared at him flatly for a second, taking one more small step back, and then turned for the doors of the grocery store without another word.
“Loretta.” Daniel called after her, his quiet voice breaking in the middle of her name as it fell upon the tile floor from quivering lips.

The Pomona Herefordiensis
Tumblr media
Foxwhelp, one of the oldest surviving apple varieties. From Knight, T. A., et al. Pomona Herefordiensis: Containing Coloured Engravings of the Old Cider and Perry Fruits of Herefordshire: with Such New Fruits as Have Been Found to Possess Superior Excellence: Accompanied with a Descriptive Account of Each Variety, 1811.
The Pomona Herefordiensis. A browse through this sumptuous classic of English pomology will transport you back hundreds of years, to a time when English orchards abounded in a dazzling diversity of fruit. And when intrepid naturalists of the day found powerful partnership with some of the world’s most talented illustrators, both to help them with their science, and to inspire the sustained interest of a wider (ideally deep-pocketed) populace in the project of exploring the teeming universe of life--whether in the exotic lands of far afield or close to home, in the orchard next door.
Tumblr media
Not to be confused with the Herefordshire Pomona, another important work published several decades later in the West Midlands region of England (which is still known as the historic heartland of English cider production) the Pomona Herefordiensis was written by Thomas Andrew Knight (1759-1838).  Knight was a trained horticulturalist and leading figure in the London Horticultural Society (later known as the Royal Horticultural Society), who put a large inheritance of land and wealth to use for breeding improved fruit and vegetable crops. Faulted by his contemporaries and later scholars for failure to more rigorously test and advance wider scientific theory with his breeding efforts, he was nonetheless well respected for his contributions to practical horticulture.
Tumblr media
Sponsored by the Herefordshire Agricultural Society, Pomona Herefordiensis marked the first published documentation of England's cider apple and perry fruit  varieties. The volume describes 30 apple and pear varieties, each represented in breathtakingly beautiful colored plates. Artists Elizabeth Mathews and Frances Knight (Thomas Knight's daughter) provided the original drawings, and William Hooker, an English student of the famed German botanical illustrator Franz Bauer, created the etchings that brought these drawings to brilliantly hued life. A significant feature of this artwork: The care taken to provide life-like representation of the scabs, speckles and other blemishes observed on gathered specimens, helping to set the bar for later illustrated works, such as the Herefordshire Pomona, to honor the integrity of their publication as works of horticultural science as well as artistic achievement.

The Pomona Herefordiensis may be over 200 years old, but it is enjoying an important revival as a tool of science in support of new growth in the craft cider industry in today's rural landscape. Here at Cornell's School of Integrative Plant Science, horticulture professor Gregory Peck is currently engaged in assessing large numbers of apple genotypes--sometimes drawn from forgotten old orchards of the past--for their potential use in hard cider production. When genetic and chemical analyses of a tested cultivar raises question about its proper identification, historic literature of past centuries can help home in on the needed answer. To read more about Dr. Peck's work, check out the recent blog on the Biodiversity Heritage Library. And to browse the Pomona Herefordiensis and other historic classics in apple and cider production for yourself, check out the new online Pomology: Apples and Cider collection that is now part of BHL's library of legacy life sciences literature. Drawn from the special collections of Mann Library and other rich life sciences collections around the world, this collection is making an invaluable record of agricultural history—and an important new tool in understanding and preserving agribiodiversity—widely available to scientists, breeders, apple growers, cider makers and historians worldwide. Between the intriguing new scientific insights into apple genetic diversity, the beautiful old agricultural artwork and lore,  the once forgotten apple cultivars now being re-discovered, and the delicious cider now being produced again more widely, it’s a revival worth exploring!

I don’t-It’s hard.
I mean, I don’t know sometimes. I don’t know if I’m messing up. Or if something is my fault, I’ll think it certainly. There is no doubt in that however the actual discerning of the truth of the matter is another story. It was always my fault somehow. I can hear them sometimes, when I sense that something may be amiss: a door might be slammed or something set down with malice. ‘Marion Evelyn Price get down here this instant!’ I suppose it was fortunate my parents had a taste for grandiose old homes that left something to be desired in insulation and upkeep, one could always hear everything no matter where one was. I would scramble downstairs from whatever part of the manor I’d be huddled in, hopefully far enough to permit time to discern what I must have done and formulate a response.
And then it was never my fault, a personality that formed like a nasty scab that left me absolutely unlikable and a magnet for more maltreatment ironically enough. Although, it should be noted I deserved a great plenty of it. I was…I was so awful, narcissism born of feelings of worthlessness should not be excused when I hurt others.
Ah-I’ve gotten sidetracked. What I mean to say is, I always seem to assume I’ve made a mistake, therefore I cannot properly identify them. And I-I suppose that just makes me worry more. Um, imagine a pile of fruit-apples, oranges, bananas, pears, and what have you, yet you see them all as apples. Yes, there are apples present, but if you were to grab one with the goal of selecting an apple that was in reality one it would be by luck.
Does that make sense? I understand my metaphors can be a little odd.

PEST PROBLEMS: March 2019
Watch out for Apple Suckers.
Tumblr media
These flattened, pale green insects are up to 2 mm in length, they resemble a winged aphid and occur on trusses of apple blossom in the spring.
If they are not contained they can cause irreparable damage by killing the flowers and of course this will then deter the fruit setting. It will also stunt the growth of the young leaves by deforming them.
The larvae cause the most damage by feeding on the blossom during the flowering period.
To control this varmint you should spray with an insecticide ideal for use on fruit & veg as the buds start to break and green-up - always spray last thing during the day or first thing in the morning - by spraying at this time you will elevate any problems with beneficial insect such as bees & other pollinating insects.
Mildew on Delphiniums.
Tumblr media
If last year you had a problem with mildew on Delphiniums then now is the time to try an rectify the problem from occurring this year.
Start spraying with a brand fungicide at bi-weekly intervals.
This should hopefully deter any future problems with this years growth.
Blind Bulbs.
Tumblr media
If you have noticed that areas of Daffs and Narcissus are a mass of foliage but hardly any flower; then this is a sign that they have come up blind.
There could be many reasons why this could be happening. It could be due to that the bulbs are getting overcrowded and need lifting and replanting the next season.
A dry season the previous year can also cause blindness.
It could be due to some gardeners have this myth of tying up the foliage after flowering. This should never be done as the foliage contains food needed for the following years blooms.
A more serious problem could be basal rot; this is caused by the base area of the bulb rots due to a soil borne fungus and affected areas need to be lifted and burnt. Then the area needs to be sterilised with a soil sterilant.
Start your spray program on Apples & Pears.
Tumblr media
Start your spray program on your apples & pears.
This will hopefully deter the damaging effects of pest and disease.
You need to start spraying from bud burst at bi-weekly intervals. Do not spray when you have the mouse ears and also when the blossom is fully open.
There various combinations of chemicals available to you. Use chemicals you are familiar with and always read the instructions carefully. To mix the chemicals correctly fill your sprayer half full with water then pour your chemicals into this. Only place the amount of chemical needed for the job. Never, I repeat NEVER put more than the manufacturer suggests.
Once the chemicals have been placed into the sprayer fill up with some more water. This will mix the chemical completely with the water and will stop any problems of sediment at the bottom of the container.
Powdered chemicals which need to mixed up should be first made into a watery paste before being placed into the sprayer.
For gardeners who care about the environment look for an insecticide which is made from natural ingredients there are some on the market - visit your local garden centre or hardware store & check out what is available.
Always spray last thing during the day or first thing in the morning - by spraying at this time you will elevate any problems with beneficial insect such as bees & other pollinating insects
Cats.
Tumblr media
To some people are cats are furry, friendly and make great pets and to other people they are scourge of the universe.
These meowing dreams or nightmares can become a serious problem especially to the keen gardener. There is nothing worse than weeding bare-handed and suddenly having something soft and squeegee in between your finger-tips.
Trying to deter these furry varmints can be quite a task.
There are several deterrents on the market most are applied either diluted or powdered. Some of these can work well though if you have a sudden burst of rain most of them will need to be re-applied. One of the best out of these is GET OFF – CAT & DOG REPELLENT as it will last up to 3 weeks in dry weather & 1 week in adverse conditions.
Tumblr media
Cocoa Shell works well as when it is wet it is soft and slimy, cats usually hate getting their paws in it and it does work to a certain degree. When its dry, the shell binds together forming a sharp pie crust stopping them digging their make shift toilets.
Other methods which have recently appeared on the market in recent years are the ultra sonic cat scarers which send a loud noise which only cats can hear which sends them packing though if the feline is white then the cat will possibly be deaf as a post.
Tumblr media
There are also plants which cats are said to detest the smell. The herb Rue is said to deter cats and also there is a plant sometimes marketed as Pee-Off -which is a member of the Plectranthus family - Plectranthus caninus which is only half-hardy - so it will work through the summer months but not for the rest of the year.
Tumblr media
Though there is one easy solution. Most people who have a problem with cats usually don’t have cats themselves. Cats are territorial animals and will use gardens and roam until they are challenged by another cat.
So the most effective method of getting rid of other peoples cats out of your garden is get a cat yourself as I did or rather 7 of them.
Pear Scab on Photinia.
Tumblr media
Whilst clearing up in the garden if you possess a Photinia (Chinese Hawthorn) please definitely have a close look at it.
If you notice lots of what would be described as black spots and lots of the older foliage is falling off then you may have this disease.
The Photinia up until recently has been one of those shrubs which could be described as easy maintenance and trouble free but it seems no longer.
The darkened splodges resemble what black spot looks like on roses but is actually a strain of pear scab.
Pear Scab has recently in the horticultural industry been a severe problem. It has attacked Hebe (Veronica), Crataegus (Quickthorn) and Pyracantha (Firethorn) in recent years but now seems to be attacking the Photinia family.
The only control to do is one remove all the damaged growth and trim the stems back by a third to some healthy buds or growth.
Then spray through the growing season with fungicide which will do scab at fortnightly intervals.

Macleaya cordata extract is thought to be an powerful herbal appetiser in swine, bovine, fowl, and even fish nutrients. Macleaya cordata extract is mixed from intact aerial parts and a fraction of quaternary benzo[c]phenanthridine alkaloids (qbas), in general sanguinarine (sg) and chelerythrine (ch), and standardised to one.Five% w/w sg.
Sanguinarine (sa), a quaternary benzo[c]phenanthridine alkaloid, is synthesised from dihydrosanguinarine, through the sports of dihydrobenzophenanthridine oxidase. It's been proven to have useful results. It's far antimicrobial, antifungal, adrenolytic, sympatholytic, immunomodulatory, and anti-inflammatory.
Chelerythrine may be discovered in the greater celandine plant and a number of extra poppy fumaria sorts. It's far a quaternary benzo[c]phenanthridine alkaloid. In line with research, it usually reveals tumour resistant, microbe resistant, and irritation resistant characteristics. Plus, the substance is a effective disruptor in terms of p.C (or protein kinase c). As such, the possible utilisation of che, as a form of irritation resistance, has been the subject of much debate. Its features are connected to its potential to interact with dna and proteins . That is an enzyme that performs an critical element inside the manage of signal transduction, cellular propagation, and cell variant.
There are four natural ingredients extract from macleaya cordata, they're sanguinarine ,chelerythrine, protopine , a-allocryptopine and p-allocrytopine. The main lively elements are sanguinarine and chelerythrine, they're rich of their fruit. We use supercritical extraction way to extract the sanguinarine out ,they sanguinarine has the stronge feature of anti-biotics , and has the advantage of non-toxic facet results and easy to metabolize. It's miles already widly utilized in feed and biopesticides location.
In which will Benefits of macleana cordata extract?
