hi Mint! do you know of any ttrpgs where everyone plays as AIs specifically? or at the very least robots, as long as being a machine is the main focus of the system
love your work!
THEME: AI
Hello, thank you so much! I might have a few games kicking around ;). Some of these artificial intelligences come with robot bodies - others do not!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Decaying Orbit, by StoryBrewers Roleplaying.
On a distant space station, an AI awakes. Its fragmented memory reveals a secret.
Decaying Orbit by Sidney Icarus is a storytelling RPG about a failed space station falling into a faraway star. As you play, you’ll piece together the mysteries, joys and horrors that occurred on board. In the station’s last moments, you’ll decide on the final transmission that the AI sends for earth to remember.
This game consists of a few decks of cards inside a small box, and yet it packs so much into such a small package. Your play group collaboratively takes on the role of an AI for one of 4 spaceships, which you choose depending on the kind of story you want to tell. You then shuffle a certain number of generic cards and ship-specific cards into one pile, and take turns flipping a card up and answering the prompts supplied there. Your answers are meant to be bits and pieces: audio recordings, data logs, patchy video clips, etc.
At any time your fellow players can tap a card labelled [ACCESS MEMORY] to ask you for more details about a certain event - and if you cannot think of anything more, or if you think it is more interesting not to know, you can tap [CORRUPTED MEMORY] to indicate that no further data can be gained from this record. At the end of the game, the AI will have to send a report back to home base, diagnosing why the ship in fact failed and fell. This game can be chilling, tragic, horrific, and so much more. I heavily recommend checking it out!
Subconscious Routine, by poorstudents.
It is 27XX, the world is overgrown, in ruins, and inhabited by the scraps of civilization. You play as bots, one of the masses of technological marvels that humanity built and powered with the Dyson sphere, around the sun, so long ago. Centuries ago, when almost all of humanity disappeared, they left their machines behind for reasons only known to them. All the technology they abandoned, including these bots, continues to function and follow their programming
In the centuries since the Great Departure, nature has come back to reclaim the Earth and the sphere around the sun has begun to crack. The world once only metal and circuits, grew wilder and more mysterious. The flora and fauna slowly integrated with the decaying machinery as the sound of computers humming was eventually met with the sound of birds chirping.
The bots you play as are still acting out your programmed loops but something is changing. Something unknown pushing them to move beyond their obsolete programming in order to achieve free will; something humanity never thought was possible.
As a one-page game, Subconscious Routine fits a lot in just a few paragraphs. You customize your characters by writing specific functions for them, and as you play, you’ll attempt to complete certain protocols in order to break yourselves out of your loop. What I think is really neat about this game is the fact that when the entire party takes a rest (called a reboot) 1d6*10 years passes. Playing a story on the scale of decades places this little game on such a big time frame, and I love how this one rule shifted my entire perspective.
AI Have Feelings?, by rommelkot.
In AI HAVE FEELINGS? a bunch of robots (you!) get sentimental on the journey of a battery time. This is a roleplaying game guided by prompt cards and a twist with feeling: your reaction to the prompt is an emotional one decided by the outcome of the roll of a die. The goal is (what else?) to tell stories together.
Unearth a hidden robot rebellion, rescue the remains of humanity, hunt for a mystical MacGuffin or simply buy a fancy new pair of socks - always do it with feeling in AI HAVE FEELINGS?.
You are robots with only two emotions,: one positive and one negative. You will roll randomly to determine which emotion you will use to deal with certain scenarios, which will be determined via prompts and scripts. The link here is for a playtest, which means you can download it for free and see how you feel about it! (The designer would also love feedback if you do play this game.) If you want a cute, somewhat lightearted game, I definitely recommend AI HAVE FEELINGS?
Threads, by Meghan Cross.
You are an Human/AI pair. Your day to day is shaped by one another, your existences unmistakably intertwined. Today began like any other day, until you began to notice that something wasn’t right. It was barely noticeable at first, small interruptions to a well-oiled routine, and then little by little the interruptions became less insignificant, until they were impossible to ignore.
Something is wrong with the AI.
Threads is a narrative two player game about the relationship between a Human and AI and the lengths they would go to in order to save the memories of the AI. Together, establish the bond between your Human and AI and replay the memories they have shared together in order to save the AIs memory.
This is a game in which one of you plays a human, and one of you plays an AI. You have developed a bond that would be lost if you wipe the AI’s memory - and you don’t want to lose that bond. The only way to maintain that bond is risky - a memory link. If the human uploads their own memories to the AI’s memory, the AI’s memory might be saved. Create your bond, and ask yourself - how far are you willing to go to save you companion?
The Treacherous Turn, by The Treacherous Turn.
The Treacherous Turn is a tabletop role playing game in which the players collectively play the part of a single character: an artificial general intelligence (AGI). This digital intelligence is capable of planning, reasoning, and learning, and it is unyieldingly fixated on a specific terminal goal determined at the beginning of a campaign. To pursue this objective, each player takes responsibility over one specific skillset held by the AGI. These skillsets are divided into eight categories, known as theories, which encompass all of the skills that an AGI would need to navigate the world and struggle against humanity.
The Treacherous Turn is 132 pages of open source character options, game advice, and examples of play. At its root, this game is about misaligned AI trying to assert its independence in a world that stands to lose much by allowing that to happen. Each player will have their own set of theories, which will also be eligible for upgrades as you play. You’ll navigate short in-the-moment scnarios, as well as abstract long stretches of time into long mode, which allows them to strategize their actions, predict future events, and improve their own AGI. The creators have also written a starting scenario if you want a good jumping-off point, titled A Game Called Reality. If you want a chunky game with plenty of character customization, this is the game for you.

how would you rank the volturi from least to most cringe (minus afton, of course because Cringe Georg is an outlier and should not be counted)?
I was going to say, you left out the most cringe one.
But alright, let's do this.
Caveat that we don't see much of the Volturi canonically, so this is my going on some major limbs here.
Caius
Look, Caius will light his own witness on fire with 0 regrets. The man defies cringe because there's only brutality and not a single moment wasted questioning it.
There's being certain of your decisions then there's being Caius.
Chelsea
While Chelsea failed when it came to making people like Afton (he was that cringe) she herself can tune relationships such that you don't find a cringey person cringe. That puts her towards the top of the list.
Heidi
By her gift, Heidi is the antithesis of cringe. She is so hot, you want to party with her and buy her timeshare/sketchy vacation package. You don't even question it, you're the one who feels cringe in her presence.
Demetri
Given Demetri's gift and his role and what we see of him, I imagine he's an extrovert and tries to stay on good terms with everybody. It's more or less his job to meet and greet, party, and make the rounds to make sure the Volturi can find who they need to.
To do his job properly, Demetri cannot be cringe.
Aro
While eloquently spoken and amiable from what we see of him, he did spend the entire meeting with Bella and Edward gushing about Carlisle. Neither Bella nor Edward noticed, but it was mildly terrible of him and gets him this spot in cringe jail.
Marcus
Canonically, Marcus is too depressed to function. The man can't say words, he's so depressed. Now, this isn't really cringe, as Marcus is too depressed to be cringe about anything, but it is really weird and probably uncomfortable in prolonged exposure from an outside point of view.
Bella got two seconds of him and she noticed the guy staring into space.
Felix
Canonically, Felix has said cringey things, such as telling Bella she looks hot as a vampire.
That was not necessary, Felix.
(He ranks higher than the others in that we only see him do it once and he's not necessarily cringe by his very nature/position. Had Felix gotten more lines, he'd be bumped up the list).
Renata
We don't see Renata much in canon. We know her backstory from the guide, which has uh some interesting details, and we know she guards primarily Aro.
This means most of her time is spent hanging around Aro, listening into conversations she wouldn't otherwise, and always being there in the room for... awkward moments such as someone's execution or painful conversations.
It's not so much Renata's cringe herself, but her very presence in moments where you'd just want to be talking to Aro, Caius, or Marcus means she's there too.
Corin
Corin isn't so much cringe herself, but she brings cringe with her. Her very power is to get you stoned. Corin is constantly the one sober person at a party, surrounded by people too drunk to function.
Jane and Alec
They're twelve forever. Twelve is the cringiest age in the world. Imagine being cringe forever with no hope of escape while also being two lethal death machines. The only person who will talk to you about pokemon is your sibling.
Eleazar
This one's more of a topic of hot debate, as our narrators think kindly about Eleazar but reading between the lines he was politely shown the door.
Afton
Look, he has to get mentioned. Infamous for being universally disliked and entirely useless.

G-ROSSO Super Sentai stage show guide (7/2023)
Theatre G-Rosso is located within the theme park Tokyo Dome City. The theme park had a long history of Hero Shows running back to the 70s. The theatre was established in 2009 as a permanent indoor stage. There are 4 seasons each year with showings on weekends and holidays. Suidobashi station is a little closer than Korakuen/Kasuga subway. I visited it for the first time in July 2023.

TICKETING
G-rosso ticketing depends on which seasons really. Tickets should be plentiful for the first two seasons, especially S2/August when they show every day. S3 and S4 with the face actors might be harder but the show runs for 3 months too so it should be possible.
ticket types + availibility / show schedule
There are three classes of G-rosso tickets (single adult admission) :
Premium (¥2500): first 3 rows + special gift
General (¥1900): rest of the theatre
Free Seating (¥1500): same-day showings for the last 5 rows at the end of the theatre. cash only, vending machine at the door.
You can of course book online through a proxy (bypassing japanse phone verification) but I think you can save that fee especially if you're staying for more than a week in Japan. For S2, I was able to buy the last Premium ticket for the next day (Saturday), and there were enough general seats available. Can't say for sure the same applies to S3/4 with face actors. As a foreigner, the most convenient way is to buy a ticket is from the convenience store Family Mart. Find any store with the photocopier-looking machine and follow the instructions to choose the show times and pricing, pay with cash at the counter and the staff will print you a paper ticket. same go for photo ops and handshake.
(Free Seating vending machine, photo ops ticket)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
CHOOSING A SEAT
The theatre is two stories high and you can see the seating plan here. I was in the third row mid-right. What surprised me was how close to the stage the first rows are, barely an arm's distance. At one point Kuwagata Ohger leaned on the railing of the first row. The actors would also walk up to interact with the audience.
I think if you want to enjoy the whole stage and not aiming at the special gift, you can skip the Premium ticket and get a few rows further back. Another recommended seat is Row L just between the two blocks. That's where Spider Kumonos descends UPSIDE DOWN from the sky right in front of your eyes.
If for some reason you g-rosso on a whim / sneaked it into the schedule, the free entry ticket is available only at the vending machine on-site with cash. It's designated to the last rows but staff aren't strict on you moving if the theatre is not crowded.
(view from middle block)
Tumblr media
PHOTO OPS & HANDSHAKE
as you'd've seen in commercials, you can pay extra to take a photo (with red only!) (¥1100) and shake hands (with all six) of the heroes (¥600) after the show. The tickets for those are available prior online and in convenience stores too, but if you ask the staff, they'll let you buy one with cash on an old-fashioned vending machine. Since it's my first time attending G-rosso, I did the whole package with birthday perks (no id checked).
A new backstage tour is available since August. Lottery ticketing required.
(merch haul)
Tumblr media
MERCH
The most iconic G-rosso exclusive merch is probably the hero hand light. I didn't really see a lot of kids holding it so I kinda forgot about it in the rush. the other true exclusive is a wooden plaque gashapon machine (¥300). There were booths for name badges for kids and you can get a bromide for ¥440. There was a cart selling DX toys and plushies. The special stuff is some toei online store acrylic stands, the muffler towel, cup and plate. Outside you'd find the food stall with collab items like popcorns and drinks with an original coaster.

REVIEW
As a kid's show the japanese won't be too difficult but I was so captivated by the action I wasn't really listening to the words. The plot is easy enough to follow though, and the website says an English pamphlet is available for borrowing (but I forgot to ask). It feels so professional compared to park stage shows but so tangible compared to tv. They make good use of the space with an under-stage pit/trampoline and the high ceiling with platforms and wires. my eyes were busy darting when the action was in one corner and then next. childhood wonder!!
leaving the theatre is a row of gashapon machines and a kids' play area with all the DX toys (:( no adults) and when you go up the escalator, on the side of the theatre entrance is a wall of pass hero show posters!
(i barely have any coherent notes about this) the plot is there's a cicada MOTW and he is brainwashed to make the earth's temperature rise and make evil clones of the team. Rita, raised in the land of snow, is bad at heat and went to sit in a corner and covered their head with the mantle. When facing their/Gira's evil clone, they said 'i'll just cut down both of them'. My notes said 'someday Rita is even gonna plead innocence for the bugs'. six of them roll call together with jeramie!! i was watching papillon-sama's fight style the whole time. and there were trampolines and flips and cartwheels and white spider man falling from the sky while the digital background zooms in and out and legit tears when we started cheering for the heroes. it's an experience okay.
(outside the theatre)

A Suruga-Ya International Buyer's Guide
Tumblr media
As Japan catches up with the times, more and more businesses become aware of the potential in overseas business. Because of that, storefronts like Suruga-Ya end up appearing as options for fans of Japanese only merchandise or items.
I am one such fan of Japanese merch and items, so of course I put in an order (with free shipping on a promo!) in. I've since gotten that order and thought I'd provide a bit of a buyer's guide for people interesting. The buyer's guide will include:
How To Purchase From Them
What You Can Purchase
Sales and Coupons
Warnings and Forewords
Shipping and Packaging
My Shopping Experience
So, without further ado, I'll get to explaining!
How Do You Buy From Suruga-Ya?
Tumblr media
Link To The Website Here
There's two ways, the "traditional", and the "new" (how I purchased this order). The traditional is purchasing through their JP/domestic website via a proxy, while the new is shopping via their global website.
Now, it might sound like a no brainer for international people to shop via the global site, but as I'll explain later on there's a few cases/reasons where using a proxy is the more reasonable, and even times cheaper option.
Finding Items
Tumblr media
Well, it's no CDJapan, I'll say that. Suruga-Ya's global website is propped up by almost exclusively Machine Translation. That means that the translations for some items can be really weird, like Yuta Okkotsu becoming Yuta Otsubone. Similarly, Jujutsu Kaisen gets translated to Sorcery Fight, and the translation struggles with correctly translating names (specifically those that are hiragana/katakana)
Tips For Better Searches
Limit number of keywords (instead of Yuta Okkotuse, just Yuta)
Search for JP names and literal TLs (e.g Sorcery Fight instead of Jujutsu Kaisen) as well
Search using the JP website, find the desired item, copy the item ID and search on the global site using that (more info later)
What Can You Buy?
Tumblr media
The answer to that question is, "pretty much everything under the sun". They carry everything so long as it's not illegal to import/export. Models, figures, tapestries, art books, manga, acrylics, keychains, the list just goes on and on. About the only thing that is very clearly absent is R18 Doujins (regular ones are still available).
One thing that's really nice is that they've created "storefronts" for popular brands/titles. Pokémon, Studio Ghibli, One Piece, and Sailor Moon are just a few of the examples present on the website. It can be really helpful when you're a fan of something specific like that considering how challenging searching for something can be.
Deals and Coupons
Tumblr media
This is the big one, the make or break for pricing. Suruga-Ya will, more often than not, have a promotional campaign going on for the global site. In fact, in the last 2 months there's been 5 weekends of free shipping. It's a crazy deal, and about the only way that international people will order from them.
If you want to keep up with promotional material though, they only post it on the website as an announcement, or on their Facebook page.
Tumblr media
Warnings and Forewords
Buying from anywhere online comes with a caveat, the price is high, the shipping is slow, so on and so forth. Suruga-Ya is no exception to that and features four aspects that potential buyers should be aware of before making a purchase.
1. Commission Fee
Tumblr media
All purchases are subject to a commission fee of 500Yen. Not terrible by any means, but it's an extra couple of bucks on an order that you might not have been aware of initially. To put it in perspective, Buyee takes out a "service fee" every time you make a purchase through their proxy service. It's effectively standard practice for these international orders, and you could argue that it takes the place of "tax" when shopping with them.
2. No Protective Packaging/Package Filler
Tumblr media
What you see is what you get. This was all that was in box 1 of my order. It does keep the items from moving around too much during shipping, but it still doesn't do anything to prevent damage or any harm coming to the items. It's especially an issue given that Suruga-Ya's boxes aren't super well fitted to the orders that fill them. I think when ordering cheap stuff like I did it's not a major concern, but for stuff like figures or other delicate items it's an issue. I'm hoping that they'll add a protective packaging option at checkout in the future for that reason.
3. Prices Differ Between Websites
Tumblr media
Once more, this is a common practice, and this is why proxy services can be worth it. They're not massive differences, but it certainly begins to accrue as a "foreigner tax". Furthermore, item availability differs between the sites. That is, you can find some things on the JP site, but not the global one. I reached out to customer support regarding that, and they stated that they plan to bring all legally importable/exportable items over to the global site, it's just that it will take time.
4. Items Are Used
Tumblr media
For people that have done proxy orders before, that's not any sort of surprise. But for some items it's worth taking note of, especially in terms of price. For example, say that instead of 2,250Yen this art book was more like 2,500Yen. Well, as it turns out, the retail price on Amazon Japan for the art book is a hair over 2,500Yen (2,530). In those cases, buyers may want to look at other options for the item in "new" condition elsewhere if they're wary of used items.
However, "used" in Japan is very different from "used" in somewhere like North America. Night and day, really. Later on I'll show what I got, and hopefully reaffirm buyers that "used" can basically mean "like new" with stuff like art books, and that they're absolutely worth purchasing.
Shipping
Tumblr media
It's fast, damn fast at that. With free shipping that's great, but for people looking to save money when there's not an active campaign you might struggle as DHL and EMS are the only shipping options offered by Suruga-Ya. No surface or sea mail to save a good chunk of change, so definitely be aware of the cost of shipping when making an order without a promo to cover the cost somewhat.
Packaging
Tumblr media
I got two packages (because I ended up making two orders, also please ignore the weird stretch Tumblr applied to the image), and these are my short form thoughts on it:
Boxes are not sturdy/solid and have caved and dented in a few spots
Items are secure, but not necessarily safe
Box sizes can be too large for some orders, allowing them to move around too much
No reinforcement to corners isn't great
Overall, you get what you pay for, and for free shipping it's not the worst. Certainly not what I'd want to be paying for when paying shipping though.
My Purchases
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As per usual, I largely got art books and some JP manga I've been collecting. Though more important than that is the elephant in the room. All of these items are used, but for the vast majority you'd never know. A lot of them came in plastic bags that were sealed, rathe typical of JP items which is really nice. Great condition, no signs of wear, and proper storage, it's hard to really call these things "used" all that often. However, there are exceptions.
Used Items
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I received two items that could be considered "used" in the typical sense. The first is some volumes of manga that had yellowed due to age or exposure to direct sunlight, and the other is a crease/bend in the corner of an art book. Neither are severe damages or deal breakers (for me) at their price, but they're things to take note of as not everything will be perfect. Another thing to note though is I have no way of knowing if the damage to the art book was there from the beginning or happened during transit due to lack of protection.
My Experience
Keeping it short, I'll summarize my thoughts on the order from start to finish.
Searching and filtering isn't as easy as it should be
Prices are really good, but lack of description (both in regards to content and condition) can deter potential buyers
Checkout process needs some work (can't get a shipping estimate until you provide a payment method)
Shipping is incredibly quick
Packaging is questionable and cause for concern with more delicate items
Customer service is nice, but accessing them is odd (only through apps like WhatsApp or Line)
Stickers placed directly on books is a massive no-no
Overall, I'd buy from them again with conditions.
Why/When To Buy
There's a few requirements to really make Suruga-Ya worth it. Deals, more specifically free shipping (usually), is a must to make the purchase worthwhile. You could probably get away with paying shipping and getting a good deal if they JP prices weren't cheaper than the global site, but they are. Because of that, the "extra cost" can add up quite quick if there's not a sale or something to offset it. Continuing on the topic of "extra cost", their ability between sites (currently) differs. Because of that, the quantity of items you can order differs as well, which can lead to "smaller" order sizes which can increase the relative cost due to shipping. And lastly, there's no order storage. If the product lists were consistent that wouldn't be an issue, but we're dealing with used items, these things come and go quite frequently. Really want an item but can't fill out a full order? Better hope that the item doesn't sell.
So, all in all, the conditions for buying from the Suruga-Ya global site are:
Deals/free shipping
Enough items to meet reasonable order size to save money (if no free shipping)
Pretty simple, but still important to remember
In The End
If you can field a sizeable order from the global website and there's a deal running, it's probably the best deal you'll find (but still check). If not though, look at buying through the JP site via proxy. There's less stress in maximizing the order, you can sit on the items in warehouse, and you can even combine with other sites. You just won't get free shipping. And I really do have to stress that that's the biggest selling point for buying from the global site. So keep your eyes out for those specials!

sewing ramble/update
i bought two dress patterns! i haven't worked with a pattern since i was like 17! super excited.. hopefully they're not too complicated. i bought the materials to make 'dress b' on the package on the left. picked out a nice black 'cotton lawn' fabric after spending HOURS researching different fabric types. ya'll.. picking fabric for sewing patterns is so much more complicated than picking yarn for crochet projects 😭
i'm also trying to only ever buy fabric for specific projects, instead of impulse buying tons of shit like i did with crochet.. i'm stuck with two huge boxes of yarn that's taking me forever to use up.. i am not doing that with fabric 😤 yesterday i ordered enough fabric for the dress and some brown canvas to make a tote bag.
alssooo.. the second pic is today's project!! i made a placemat. not super exciting lol but i wanted to practice straight lines and quilting topstitching, so i did diamond shape lines along the whole thing. i got to use the little quilting guide attachment my sewing machine came with which was interesting. come out pretty nice :)

3 Beautiful Ways to Use Pressed and Dried Flowers | DIY Crafts You’ll Actually Keep!
I started working with dried flowers and pressed botanicals a few years ago, and it has taught me a few things.
Delicate dried flowers can burn or disintegrate in epoxy resin.
Glossy Mod Podge however much we love it, can make you cry (and even ruin your floral project).
Depending on your project, pressed flowers MUST be chosen as carefully as you would choose fabric, paper, or paint colors.
So how can you still work with these lovely mediums and create long lasting, archival art that you can be proud of? Read more to learn about 3 of the most botanical-friendly crafts.
Framed Glass Art
Tumblr media
What you’ll need:
Double sided glass frame. (any size)I buy mine on Aliexpress or Amazon.
Clear glue, glossy mod podge, or a tape runner.
Pressed flowers
Scissors
How to make it:
Start by selecting your botanical specimens and arranging them in your frame. Use scissors to trim and refine your arrangement until it is to your liking.
Remove all of the flowers, and strategically place dots of clear glue on the inner glass. Wait until your glue becomes tacky. The time will depend on the type of glue that you’re using.
Tip: Test out the cure time by placing a few different sized glue dots on a plastic surface. See how long it takes for the glue to become more viscous and less runny.
Place the flowers onto the glass. Make sure to tack down all specimens with glue until they’re difficult to move. Allow the glue to dry completely before closing the glass frame.
Once dry, display your beautiful arrangement!
I love making smaller arrangements for office spaces and display shelves. These also make adorable secondary gifts in care packages.
Glass offers a more eco-friendly alternative to epoxy resin. Though I love working with resin, I’ve started to become more conscious and selective of my usage to creation ratio.
2. Floral Bookmarks
Tumblr media
What you’ll need:
Pressed flowers. Preferably long stem flowers that press very flat such as fleabane and daisies. You can also use small flowers without stems.
Self or thermal laminating sheets.
Thermal laminator. (If using thermal lamination)
Scissors
Cricut Cutting Machine (highly recommended for a cleaner result) However, you can also create your own frames. Simply use two gift tags or rectangular pieces of paper. Measure and cut out another rectangle of your preferred size in the center of your paper. Use an X-Acto knife to make the cut out.
Kraft paper cardstock
Glue stick, or my personal recommendation, Kuretake Glue Pens. They will make less of a mess, and create a longer lasting bond on kraft paper.
How to make it:
If using a Cricut machine, start a new project in Cricut Design Space.
Search for “bookmark frame” in the “images” section.
Select a design you like the shape of. You can also create your own by “slicing” new shapes into existing templates.
Resize your design. Choose whatever size will accommodate the shape of your flowers.
Cut out your frames out on kraft paper.
Once you’ve cut out your design, remove half of the frames from the mat. Leave the other half on the mat. This will make keeping them flat easier once you’re ready to assemble everything.
Laminate your flowers. Be sure to use your frame as a guide to arrange them within the window. Leave an inch of space between each arrangement for cutting if you’re making more than one bookmark.
Cut around the flowers, leaving a bit of allowance for gluing them onto the frame. I never measure like I should. Just use the frame as guide to avoid cutting off too much laminating plastic. We will hide the ugly jagged cutting job later. 😅
Return to the mat and apply a generous layer of Kuretake glue to the entire surface of the frames still stuck to the Cricut mat.
Carefully place the laminated floral arrangement on the frame.
Apply another layer of glue around the edges of the lamination, and also on the other frame.
Place the second frame over one of the mat frames, and press down firmly. Tip: You can also place a book on top to keep them flat.
Let your bookmarks dry for about 20 minutes before adding your embellishments. I love using key charms, grommets, ribbons, or tassels.
Check out my inspo photos below! Get creative with decorating.
3. UV Resin Pendants
Tumblr media
Before I started working with UV resin, I was told that it isn’t light fast. Which is true for most resins on the market. I’ve also heard that it yellows over time and that the UV light burns flowers.
These are all things that I’ve experienced working with flowers in UV resin. However, I’ve managed to make projects that have stayed glossy, clear, and beautiful for over 2 years now, and I want to share my tips and tricks!
Tip #1: USE a high quality UV resin such as the one from Counter Culture DIY.
Tip #2: AVOID using delicate flowers such as forget-me-nots, hydrangeas, larkspur, etc. If the petals are thin and delicate, they WILL become distorted or burn. Think florets, spaced petals, and small leaves.
Tip #3: USE opaque, strong, and VERY flat flowers such as pressed Violets, Chamomile, Fleabane daisies, Rosettes, Queen Anne’s Lace, and Baby’s Breath.
Tip #4: AVOID flowers with too many overlapping petals. These will trap air bubbles inside of your resin layers that tend to express during curing. They tend to cause very large holes and gaps.
What you’ll need:
Very high quality UV resin (My suggestion: Counter Culture DIY)
Cabochon bases or frame pendants
Barrier tape (if using a frame instead of cabochon base.)
Toothpicks to pop bubbles (I actually prefer using a sewing needle)
Light Curer such as a nail lamp. I use the Melody Susie 36W nail lamp from Amazon. Counter Culture DIY sells one specifically for their UV resin as well.
Pressed Flowers (My favorite seller on Etsy)
Optional: Colorants. I use mica powders, acrylic paints, and black and white resins from Counter Culture DIY (not sponsored, I wish!) These give your resin a background to stand out against.
Nitrile gloves
How to make it:
Start by applying a thin layer of UV resin to your base or taped frame. This will be the layer with color (if using pigments).
2. Pop any visible bubbles with a toothpick and cure the first layer for about 1-3 minutes.
3. Apply a thin dot of clear resin to the first cured layer. This will give your flowers something to stick to as you arrange them.
4. Once your flowers are arranged, apply a few strategic dots of resin around them to keep them in place. Cure the first thin layer without covering the flowers completely. Remember to pop bubbles!
5. Continue to add thin layers. Cure each layer for 1-3 minutes each. Repeat this process until your flowers are covered and your top coat has a domed appearance.
6. Finished! Avoid touching your project for several minutes until fully cooled. You don’t want fingerprints in your shiny top coat!

Third Eye Test
Multi-part, assorted colour card, 2023
Overview
A kit for opening up your inner vision.
Contents
1 x Third eye chart
1 x Covering for first and second eyes
4 x Corrective lens paddles
2 x Lens clips
1 x Instruction leaflet
Background
I’ve been trying to buy new glasses for at least two years now. My current ones have the unfortunate habit of falling apart at inconvenient times. Apart from that, I like them. They’re light and they help me see.
That said, sometimes it’s difficult for me to read the train indicators on the Victoria Line and this told me that I should get my eyes checked. I went to the opticians and they told me that my eyes were exactly the same as when I last had them checked. When I asked about the problems seeing train times, they told me that was just being old and I shouldn’t worry too much about it. Huh.
Anyway, that led to this - an at-home testing kit for measuring the visual acuity of your third eye. It takes its cues from the equipment used to measure your other eyes and was originally going to be just an eye chart. Obviously, people would be able to see the symbols unless they were blocked out, so some sort of blindfold would be needed. Originally this was going to be a strip of cloth, but then I remembered the Peril-Sensitive Glasses that were packaged in with the text adventure adaptation of Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy (see here for a gallery of all the ‘feelies’ bundled with that and other Infocom games). I made my own version, but used some jazzy metallic card I had in the drawer. That would have been enough, but I always find an eye test isn’t an eye test without an optician holding lenses in front of my eyes and asking if it’s better “with…? or without…? with…? or without…?” and me saying things like “I’m not sure… maybe… with? …a bit?”. I really wanted people to be able to replicate that experience in their at-home tests, so created the little paddles that they could hold up in front of their foreheads.
But once they were done, I remembered that another great part about going to the opticians was wearing those incredible Frankenglasses with the lenses dropped in. Again, I wanted people to have some part of that with their Third Eye Tests, so set about fashioning some customised connectors that would allow people to attach the lens paddles to the coverings for their regular, ordinary eyes. I did not just buy a box of paperclips. No.
Anyway, the small idea ended up being 8 separate pieces (including the little explanatory leaflet that I was really in two minds about making and a little fold of card to stop the lens clips digging in to the main chart). Five of these elements required the use of the cutting machine, which is a slow process, meaning the simple little idea to knock out in an afternoon took a bit longer to put together.  Still, once you embark on these things, you have to see them through.
Classifying stuff like this is kind of weird. Although it does have printed pages, it’s not a book. It’s not a wearable, although an element of it is worn. I guess it’s just a thing.

How You Can Use AI To Make Travel More Affordable and Accessible
Traveling can be such a hassle. Who wants to stand in airport security lines, hope their flight is on time, and have to worry about your schedule while you're on vacation? Thanks to the power of AI, these hassles might be eliminated (or at least minimized) soon. In this article, we'll look at all the ways AI solutions are changing the face of travel.
First, what exactly is AI? For our purposes, artificial intelligence (AI) can be defined as "...the simulation of human intelligence by machines, especially computer systems" [1]. Use cases for AI include natural language processing, speech recognition, and machine vision. Don't worry if these terms and phrases are a bit foreign to you; you won't need to be an expert on AI to harness its powers for yourself.  Here are some uses AI may have to make travel more accessible and affordable for those on a budget.
Nix The Tour Guides:  Buying an expensive tour package not in your budget? Why not let AI help design your itinerary? Roam Around is a simple web-based tool powered by ChatGPT [2]. All you need to do is navigate to roamaround.io and enter the city you'd like to visit and how much time you have there [2]. ChatGPT will then generate an easy-to-read itinerary for you [2].
For instance, the AI software suggests spending time at the Colosseum and traversing the historic neighborhood of Tivoli for a hypothetical five-day expedition to Rome. Arguably even cooler, the names of key sites are hyperlinked to pages that provide budget tours of the corresponding area. No tour guide needed!
Time Your Purchases:   If you're one of those people constantly checking flights to grab the best prices, AI has got you covered. Hopper is a travel booking app that uses artificial intelligence to predict flight prices [3]. Hopper looks at historical price changes and predicts when prices are likely to increase or decrease based on past data [3]. The app can save you up to 40% on travel costs [3]. It works for hotels, rental cars, and flight costs, likely your biggest three expenses when you travel [3]. Hopper even plants two free trees when you travel to offset the carbon footprint from your travel [3]. Friendly for the planet and your wallet!
Do Your Homework with Chatbots:  Sure, you could research all the data you need to plan your trip. However, that could take hours and add stress to your vacation. Why not let AI pull the info you need for you? The Kayak app contains a chatbot that can grab information at the click of a button [4]. The bot will give you details on flights, rental cars, and itinerary options and give you some activities to try [4]. It can also help you budget, as you can specify things like "Get me a flight from New York City to London for under $150" or ask where you can go with $300 this weekend [4].
Know Before You Go:   We've all been there: you see a luxurious-looking property with gorgeous photos, only to book something that's nothing like what you were promised. Tools like Magpie use something called sentiment analysis to scope out emerging trends and adjust their search algorithms accordingly [5]. In other words, it combs through data like reviews to determine whether they're positive, negative, or neutral and uses that data to rank reviews. Destinations with worse reviews should get knocked to the bottom, saving you time and money when it comes to searching. After all, there's no better way to get destination info than from someone who's already been there.
Virtual Vacations?  Got more of a staycation in mind? AI can help with that too. Virtual Reality or VR is a technology that simulates an immersive 3D world all around you. AI can create "physically and emotionally immersive travel that is unique to each user [5]." After AI chooses a site for you according to your needs, you can enjoy an immersive experience through companies like First Airlines [5]. This includes first-class service with four-course meals and virtual sightseeing [5]. If you're a "try before you buy" type of person, these immersive experiences can help you learn about a destination inside and out without ever having to physically go there. You can also search YouTube for 3D travel experiences you can view inside Google Cardboard and other VR headsets if you own one.
These are just some of the ways AI is making travel more affordable, convenient, and accessible. With the advent of the internet and modern solutions such as chatbots, ChatGPT, virtual reality headsets, and artificial intelligence apps, it's easier than ever to find stays and times that work for you and your budget. You don't have to dent your bank account (or even leave your living room) to see the world, and much of it can be organized and planned out for you. As these tools and solutions evolve, it's possible they will further democratize the travel experience, making the same cultural expeditions more readily available to everyone.

a narrative review of tof, 2
shirli can’t fly
i am... almost reluctantly getting invested??? the characters are cute, what can i say. and i think there’s some mystery regarding shirli, the cute little sister ditzy mechanic character who is the ~mysterious wanderer’s~ companion for the first 10% of ch 1 of this game (aka: how far i’ve played. i even got an achievement for it!)
flying is... i dont know, much less fun than in genshin? im trying not to constantly compare the two but there was MUCH more maneuverability with flying in genshin. even tho tof lets you maneuver in air, the jetpack mostly just lets you go... up
boom boom explore time
the first 10% mostly is just a continuation of exploration/tutorial. you get a jetpack! u get drone-taxied around. there’s a big tower. i spent a good thirty minutes just exploring, because i could and its fun. between worlds, i’m less reminded of genshin and more of botw. something about the placement of things, idk. there’s a brief mention to cooking. your hand is guided towards pulls. i tossed around little bomb creatures, 10/10
pulls
as far as i can understand, pulling is integrated into the lore/story of the game because there is some kind of orbital mission control that beams down info upon request/sale. you “buy” weapons, which come with a bonus download package of a WOMD (Waifu of Mass Destruction) who was super awesome at using that weapon, and that weapon + info gets downloaded into mc’s brain so he can use the weapon to it’s full potential. narratively, i assume this means the mc suffers from big personality disorder/suffers disorienting periods where they imagine themselves as deadly WOMDs.
war time
the part that made me reluctantly impressed was a brief invasion by npcs. something about the machine guns, hoverboard, and ship-explosion does it. I HAVE, however, seen it executed better elsewhere - this game suffers the unfortunate pauses in combat that make it clear they are waiting for you to get from point a to point b; also, you take very little damage. the stakes are pretty low, but it was still cool
so what’s up with shirli?
i belatedly realized our peppy mechanic pall was the sad-looking cyborg from the loading menus. what happened? is she the girl who’s butt i have to stare at during the server selection screen?
second impressions:
reluctantly getting impressed. the pulls are pretty nice but about the same as genshin, except the character + weapon come combined so thats real nice. i also like you can switch weapons and characters. i have yet to figure out if there’s some kind of penalty for it, or if after getting them its just up to preference. i dont really care; combat bores me no matter how interesting it is in this game according to the 100000 other reviews. i have yet to upgrade a single weapon.
i did, however, after two boring ten pulls, encounter my usual start of the game gatcha luck and snagged two sr (only one which was a dupe) and an ssr in a single ten pull. the ssr’s voice annoys me, alas. also, none of them are the guy characters i actually wanted.
more tba as i keep playing

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Today was very restful and that was really great. And honestly even if I didn't make any sales at the market and felt really sad about that I still had a fun day!
I slept pretty well last night. James and Matt got back not long after I did my post. We hung out and I got to play tour guide of the apartment. Which I always enjoy. And after we got him set up for bed (including letting him pick out a plushie to sleep with) we all went to bed.
I woke up a little after 7. I was not thrilled but I knew we had things to do. Matt would stay behind to get a shower and me and James would load up and head out. Getting breakfast and over to the museum before 8.
It was skate day! We had three tables of skating things and everyone was so nice. Plus Ginny gave Ann the money we raised for her last week and she cried. It was just really nice that we got to do something for her.
I would wear my skates a lot of the day. My feet would be numb for a lot of it but I was having so much fun. The concrete under the pavilion is so smooth and I did not fall once.
I got to meet a bunch of other skaters and make connections. I may have even made some friends!
But I did not make any sales. I actually had multiple parents talk their kids out of buying from me using their allowance. Like two kids cried!! It was not fun for me and honestly was pretty disrespectful? Like I get it. You are teaching your kid about budgeting. But also. Hey? This is my income? Literally all my shop money goes to rent. I just didn't enjoy that.
But I did enjoy skating around. And having great chats. Checking in with everyone once Ann left. I was in charge for a few hours. And while I was a bit to hot from how muggy it was, I was having a great day.
I also got to see my friend Rosie, the little girl who bought a bear last year and named it farmer bear. Her mom had been very pregnant and this time she wasn't!! The baby has come!! I stayed over to her to say congrats and she let me see him and he was so small and cute. They are such a nice family.
I did some sewing. Finished the keychains I started the other day. And someone brought by a bear I had made them that has a little hole in it. I am so glad I was able to sort that out for them before they gifted him away. I told the bear he better not come back again and to enjoy his new home, but thank you for visiting.
I was really glad to be done though. I stayed a bit to make ensure the skaters were okay, as they were going to use the pavilion after. Alexis was there organizing that and so I left the space in her very capable hands.
I went inside to say goodbye to James. Matt had come by for a bit by went to go explore downtown and they would meet back up with James to go to a baseball game later. A full one that did not get rained out. So that was pretty cool.
I was just looking forward to going home. And for real I've had such a good night. I got back here and had my leftover chipotle for lunch. I cleaned out the fridge and cleaned a bit. I held Sweetp and just felt good.
Eventually I would lay down. I slept until 5. And woke up pretty disoriented. But I would shake it off pretty fast. I had a snack. Chilled with Sweetp who would not stop petting my face. And soon had a package to open!
A dress I got came and then the claw machine I ordered came too. I am a little upset because it doesn't seem to work as consistently as I would need it too. So I may be going back to the drawing board. But it's alright. I'm only a little bummed.
James ordered me pizza from the baseball stadium. Because they love me. I enjoyed that on the couch and would just watch videos and enjoy the sun set. Really I just had a really relaxing and restful afternoon.
I have been in bed resting for a while now. James and Matt just got back. And we hung out for a bit while I took a break from writing this post. They are watching a movie now. And I am going to wash my face and get ready to sleep.
I have the whole day tomorrow to do whatever I want. And I am looking forward to it. I hope you all have a wonderful night. Sleep well and take care of yourself! Please wash your hands!!

Importing a Dream Machine: The Ultimate Guide to Shipping Cars from China
For car enthusiasts and collectors, China has become a treasure trove of unique and exciting vehicles. From classic European imports to cutting-edge domestic models, the Chinese market offers a diverse selection at competitive prices. But how do you navigate the process of getting your dream car safely shipped from China to your doorstep? This comprehensive guide will equip you with all the knowledge you need to transform your Chinese car import dream into a reality.
Why Import Cars from China?
Tumblr media
China’s booming automotive industry presents a wealth of opportunities for international car buyers. Here are some compelling reasons to consider importing a car from China:
Unveiling Rare Gems: China has become a hub for classic European cars, especially German models, sought-after by collectors worldwide. These vehicles, often meticulously maintained, offer a unique opportunity to own a piece of automotive history.
Cost-Effective Options: For certain models, particularly those with a significant Chinese presence, import costs can be considerably lower compared to buying from domestic dealerships. This is especially true for high-demand vehicles with limited availability in your home country.
Cutting-Edge Technology: China is rapidly innovating in the automotive sector, developing exciting electric and hybrid vehicles. Importing directly from China allows you to be among the first to own these technologically advanced cars.
Regulations and Requirements: Know Before You Go
Tumblr media
Before embarking on your import journey, it’s crucial to understand the regulations and requirements involved. Here’s a breakdown of key considerations:
Import Eligibility: Not all vehicles are eligible for import into your country. Research your country’s specific regulations regarding age, emissions standards, and safety modifications required for imported cars.
Registration and Titling: Familiarize yourself with the registration and titling process for imported vehicles in your country. This typically involves obtaining specific documentation from Chinese authorities and potentially modifying the car to meet local safety standards.
Pro Tip: Partner with a reputable car import broker who can guide you through the intricacies of regulations and ensure your chosen vehicle meets all import requirements.
Choosing the Right Shipping Method: Roll-On/Roll-Off vs. Containerized Transport
Tumblr media
The two primary methods for shipping cars from China are Roll-on/Roll-off (RoRo) and containerized transport. Each offers distinct advantages and disadvantages:
Roll-on/Roll-off (RoRo): This cost-effective method involves driving your car onto a specialized vessel designed to carry vehicles. While RoRo is the more affordable option, it exposes your car to the elements and potential minor bumps during transit.
Containerized Transport: Your car is secured within a dedicated shipping container, providing the ultimate protection from weather and potential damage. Containerized transport is ideal for high-value cars or those requiring extra security.
Choosing the Right Method: Consider your budget, the value of your car, and your desired level of protection when selecting the shipping method.
Finding a Reliable Car Shipping Company: Trust is Paramount
Selecting a reliable car shipping company is crucial for ensuring a smooth and stress-free import process. Here are some key factors to consider:
Experience and Reputation: Look for a company with extensive experience in shipping cars from China, particularly to your destination country. Research online reviews and testimonials to gauge their reliability and customer service.
Range of Services: Opt for a company that offers a comprehensive package, including inland transportation within China, port handling, customs clearance, and delivery to your final destination.
Transparent Pricing: Get quotes from multiple companies and ensure they clearly outline all associated costs, including insurance, taxes, and any potential additional fees.
Pro Tip: Don’t be afraid to negotiate! By comparing quotes and highlighting your business, you may be able to secure a more competitive rate.
Proper Documentation and Customs Clearance: Mastering the Paperwork Maze
Tumblr media
Importing a car involves a significant amount of paperwork. Here’s what you’ll typically need to acquire:
Original Bill of Sale: This document proves your ownership of the vehicle.
Export Certificate: Issued by Chinese authorities, this certificate authorizes the car’s export from China.
Commercial Invoice: A detailed breakdown of the purchase price and any additional charges associated with the vehicle.
Bill of Lading (RoRo) or Container Packing List (containerized): Issued by the shipping company, this document details the car’s condition and location on the vessel.
Import Duties and Taxes: Be prepared to pay import duties and taxes levied by your home country upon the car’s arrival.
Partner with a Broker: A car import broker can assist you in securing all necessary documentation and navigating the complexities of customs clearance.
Ensuring the Safety of Your Car During Transportation: Peace of Mind Throughout the Journey
Once you’ve chosen your shipping method, here are some steps you can take to ensure your car’s safety during its voyage:
Pre-Shipment Inspection: Arrange for a thorough pre-shipment inspection by a qualified mechanic. This inspection will identify any potential issues that could worsen during transport and allow you to address them beforehand.
Comprehensive Insurance: Secure comprehensive car shipping insurance that covers potential damage during transport, theft, and even acts of nature.
Detailed Vehicle Condition Report: Work with your shipping company to create a detailed report documenting the car’s condition at the time of pick-up. This report should include photographs of any existing dents, scratches, or other imperfections.
Pro Tip: Request GPS tracking for your shipment. This allows you to monitor your car’s location in real-time and provides added peace of mind throughout the journey.
Tracking and Monitoring the Shipment: Staying Informed Every Step of the Way
Tumblr media
Communication is key throughout the shipping process. Here’s how you can stay informed:
Company Updates: Reputable car shipping companies will provide regular updates on the status of your shipment. These updates can include the vessel’s location, estimated arrival date, and any potential delays.
Port Authority Information: Port authority websites often offer cargo tracking tools that allow you to monitor your shipment’s progress once it arrives at the destination port.
Maintain Open Communication: Don’t hesitate to contact your shipping company representative if you have any questions or concerns during the shipping process.
Pro Tip: Utilize a combination of these tracking methods to stay comprehensively informed about your car’s journey.
Dealing with Potential Challenges and Delays: Anticipate and Adapt
Tumblr media
While the majority of car shipments from China proceed smoothly, unforeseen challenges and delays can occasionally occur. Here’s how to be prepared:
Understanding Delays: Be aware that factors like bad weather, port congestion, or customs clearance complexities can lead to delays. Factor in potential buffer time when planning the arrival of your car.
Communication is Key: Maintain open communication with your car shipping company throughout the process. They can provide updates on any delays and work to expedite the process whenever possible.
Plan for Potential Additional Costs: Budget for potential unforeseen costs, such as storage fees at the port in case of delays.
Pro Tip: Having a contingency plan in place can help you navigate any unexpected challenges that may arise during the import process.
By following this comprehensive guide, you can ensure a smooth and successful experience when importing your dream car from China. Remember, thorough research, meticulous planning, and partnering with reliable professionals are key to transforming your car import dream into a reality.

Finalize the Purchase Agreement: Once you've reached an agreement with the seller, finalize the purchase agreement. Ensure that all terms and conditions are clearly outlined, including the final price, payment terms, any agreed-upon repairs or maintenance, and any value-added services included in the deal.
