Favorite backstory

The more I think about these, the more depressing I realize all these backstories are. I think right now I'm gonna say 1.18- The Stable Boy, because I'd spent so long wondering what had really happened between Snow and Regina, and this was really my first insight into "Woah. Regina has feelings too," which later lead to "Regina is just as broken as everyone else" and finally "Regina deserves redemption too." Now she's one of my favorite characters!

Most powerful scene

So I already answered the most powerful on my sideblog (Belle in 4.12) but the second most powerful scene for me is definitely Killian's phone call scene in 4.8. Colin's acting in that scene is some of the best I have ever seen- and he powerfully portrays his love for Emma, even when she's not even onscreen or in the scene with him. The way his voice breaks, the emotion on his face when he sees her charred handprint, him running all the way to the apprentice's mansion to rescue Emma- his love for her is so strong, and this scene portrays it beautifully.

Favorite battle

It's a toss up between Killian and Rumples' duel in 2.4 and Emma and Nimue's battle in 5.7

Saddest death

If the Underworld Goodbye from 5.20 counts as a death, I'm going to have to go with that one. If not, I'd say probably either Killian's death in 4.22 or Neal's death in 3.15. I wrote all that then remembered Liam's death and decided that, yeah. Liam's death in 3.5 was sad (especially since we didn't have the backstory from 5.15 yet and still only had the perfect impression of Liam that we get from Killian's perspective)

💕 Beetle Hopper, OUAT? —Nic

Nic, hi!! I don't know how much you're actually aware of Beetle's lore, so (like I did with the Yarrow ask) I'll summarise it here.

Basically, Beetle's family lives by a crop of poppies that grow in the water of the river Lethe (the one which takes your memories.) This field of poppies is close to Oz (though they don't visit much.) The field is protected by a spell, that needs at least 1 of the spell-casters descendants to uphold it. This also means that they go through life invisible (so it's more of a curse, really.)

At on point on one of Beetle's mothers' excursions she gets sick, and the spell starts to break. So, Beetle goes into town and (by talking with Granny Lucas and Ruby*) gets told to go and get help from the dark one (it's Rumplestiltskin, at this point.) This works out, but they take a spell from him -- which, when read, turns them into a beetle. On the way home, Beetle tries the spell and turns into a beetle. They fly to the lake that's next to the poppies and is stuck in beetle form until after the curse is passed. Their mother is cured, but due to the time away from Beetle doesn't remember them.

Later, when the season 3 curse hits Beetle wanders their way to the farm, and falls into a poppy induced sleep. Their mother wakes them up, and Ruby is there to watch (she only got in there as they're true love.) This, however, makes it so that when Beetle crosses the border they lose the memory of their mother (although these memories do come back when they are woken up by Ruby in 5.15**).

*Granny says that there's no hope and Ruby tells them about him.

**This is also canon in the Belle/Beetle/Ruby canon (the evermore au), just in different circumstances (which I haven't figured out yet.)

So, yeah, it's a whole mess (much like the ouat wiki page.)

Gideon is adopted by Belle in the canon divergent au, so Beetle is one of Gideon's parents. He calls her B.

Beetle's order at Granny's is a hot chocolate and a muffin or tea. The also come into Granny's to draw, on their breaks.

They are a swim teacher during the curse.

Ruby 100% fell first, but Beetle was the one who initiated the relationship.

After the curse their ability to turn into a beetle came back almost immediately, but they found themselves being tired after the transformation It took a while to regain that control.

To be honest, I would have been very happy with even LESS of the B plot of last night's ep that we got only because it was Henry-focused. Oops? (This is also why I have next to no excitement over the finale filming spoilers right now because the idea of separating the group in order for Emma & co. to find Henry in NYC bores me).

You’ll never get me to defend Henry screentime. My battlecry remains... Hogwarts? X-Mansion? Chilton? Anyone want to take this kid of our hands?

I agree that so far the shooting spoilers for the finale are not exciting, in the slightest, but I don’t think it’s time to write off the finale yet. I think they were in studio several days last week so there is a ton we don’t know. I feel certain that they after the season we’ve just had (and are going to get) they wouldn’t give us a CS free finale. That wouldn’t make any sense.

What upsets me about this upcoming episode is either way, once again, Killian loses. If Liam is being shady for some reason (which it looks like he is) then Killian's going to feel guilt and remorse for not trusting Emma, on top of losing his brother again, on top of realizing he was wrong all this time and his brother wasn't as noble and heroic as he thought. If by some weird chance Liam is not being shady and this is all a misdirect, he is going to lose someone who NEVER let him down, AGAIN. And if they don't let Liam move on to a happy place and force Killian to have guilt over too that I might have to drive to the writer's office and start taking hostages until they FIX IT.
