I keep thinking of an AU where Imelda died only a couple of months or years after Héctor did. So all that's left is Oscar and Felipe and Coco, and the twins aren't able to take care of Coco. They want to, but they're, like, teenagers, and there's no other family to help them. They don't have much money; they don't have steady jobs, only being hired by whoever needs any odd jobs done around town, or maybe they do but it doesn't pay enough. They don't know how to make shoes as well as Imelda did, they're not earning enough.
Now, the twins themselves would be fine. They can rent a room or live out of the inn or something. But they can't have that for Coco.
Coco needs a home. She needs proper nourishing food, she needs to have a place to live that won't keep changing all around town every couple of months, she needs toys and clothes, she needs people who'll be able to devote all their attention to her like her parents did. The twins aren't able to give her any of this, not at the moment with things as they are.
So they ask Ernesto care for her.
Sure, they haven't seen Ernesto ever since Héctor ran off on them a couple years ago, but he was Héctor's best friend, he knows Coco, he used to babysit her sometimes. Ernesto's not as famous yet as he will someday be, but he's pretty well known, so it's easy for the twins to track him down, and he has plenty of money, enough to easily afford to take care of a child, or hire caretakers, or whichever he does. Coco will always have enough to eat, a safe place to live, with someone familiar. It's not the same as her parents, of course, but it's the best they can do. They figure Ernesto will be able to care for her until they earn & save enough money to get on their feet and properly raise their niece. Hopefully it won't take too long.
Ernesto agrees to take Coco in. Not that he wants to, but of course his reputation is very important to him, and it'd look bad if he refused to care for his missing best friend's orphaned daughter.
I haven't figured out yet if he ends up doting on her like a daughter because he feels guilty about Héctor, or if he avoids her as much as possible because she reminds him of Héctor, or if he's cruel to her because he's still angry at Héctor for leaving him (twice - the second time when he decided to go home, the first time when he married Imelda) or what.
On the plus side, at least Imelda and Héctor get to reconcile in death. Since Imelda died so soon after Héctor, maybe she was still holding out hope that he'd come home at the time, thinking he was sick or his letters had been mislaid or whatever she must have been thinking in canon when his letters first stopped. And she wouldn't have so many years of bitterness against him for leaving. So when she encounters him in the Land of the Dead she figures that some tragic accident must have befallen him on the road and Ernesto for some reason never told her (as opposed to in canon where when she saw Héctor after she died she probably thought he'd died twenty or thirty years after he'd left her and Coco or something).

In this story, Coco has known Rosita and Julio since childhood, these two are residents of Encanto and neighbors of the Riviera. In fact, I have included many characters in the Encanto from the original Coco, including characters from the land of the dead… Well, I love them too much.
Tumblr media
Bruno gets a vision of Coco and Julio's wedding and shows it to Rosita… And no, he won't show the vision to anyone else, including Hector!
Maybe Imelda, though…

Meanwhile, the twins have a vague feeling of deja vu…

Peterson Plus
By Canada’s own Oscar Peterson I have as either stand-alone or mp3: Cole Porter Song Book (1959) As mp3: Tenderly/West Side Story (1962)/Portrait of Sinatra (1959)/Night Train (1963)/Jazz At The Philharmonic (1983)/Oscar’s Choice/Motions & Emotions (1969). Standalone: The More I See You (1995), Meets Hargrove (1996). I’m not what I’d called as fan but I do enjoy his consistent playing style –…

Consuelo’s Diary
We received family portraits from Oscar and Mercedes and Ramon and Esther and their children. Oscar and Mercedes’ oldest, Dolores, is almost Héctor’s age and looks quite like I did as a girl. They also have two younger children, Pedro and Esperanza. Mercedes has quite a talent for making dresses for the girls out of chicken feed sacks!
Ramon and Esther have the twins, Ruth and Judith, who look so alike that it’s hard to tell them apart, except Esther dresses Judy in pink and Ruthie in purple. Their youngest, Leonard, recently reached grade-school age. All their children look so much like their father!
I look at their families and then I look at mine, our little unconventional small family, with such fondness. But it hasn’t felt right just leaving Mamá by herself, so I invited her to move in with us. It was hard for her to sell the childhood home, where she’d spent many years with Father. But when I talk to Mamá, she assures me that she is very happy with the loving and large family she has built and all seven of her grandchildren. She feels she has finally completed her life’s goal.

Mateo Rivera | Staff | 94 | Thunderbird | Versatile
“The best thing for being sad is to learn something. That's the only thing that never fails."
Mateo Rivera was born in the mountains of Guatemala in 1929 to a somewhat small but close knit group of thunderbirds. His parents and extended family would go into the cities sometimes, cautiously, and interact with the humans and vampires and while they didn’t want to frighten Mateo too much they cautioned him about that world and all its various dangers. A good natured chick, he tried to listen to what they told him but he was always fascinated by the things they brought back and it was the books that really intrigued him. The mortals wrote such interesting stories and if they could write such wondrous things, how could they be so bad? His family curbed his curiosity for a time, about thirty years or so, but he practiced his human disguise diligently so he could eventually venture into the city. Mateo somewhat neglected to master his other magic, in spite of how his family tried to teach him. He had a basic grasp of it but if he was going to have to hide in plain sight anyway, why should he bother? It wasn’t like he’d be using many of his thunderbird skills so why worry about them?
Finally, Mateo’s curiosity and stubbornness won out against his family’s protests and he ventured out into the mortal world. In Villa Nueva, he started to learn about humans and the complex, fascinating world they inhabited. He read, he asked questions, he learned all kinds of things and, after a couple of years in the city, Mateo fell in love. Carina was the most interesting person he’d ever met. Quick to laugh with a mischievous streak, she always had paint on her fingers or her clothes and Mateo couldn’t resist her. She was human, something his family warned him about when they ventured into the city to try and get him to come back, but he wouldn’t listen to them. He was in love and he couldn’t imagine being parted from her. He told her what he was, eventually, and she accepted him for it. They were married and for four years, Mateo was happy. He worked in a bookstore, Carina painted, and somehow Mateo thought they would manage to come through the political turmoil all around them without being touched by it. It wasn’t to be.
It was the first few years of the Guatemalan civil war and things were getting worse and worse. Mateo was out with Carina one day in 1964 during a storm and they got caught in a crossfire. He just wanted to protect her, to get them both home safe, and he used his powers for the first time in some time. With the storm making him that much stronger and his general lack of control, it was disastrous. Tapping into the storm, he used his electric mimicry, he screamed, he went somewhat wild with powers he naturally had but had never worked to control. When everything cleared, the soldiers were dead…and so was Carina. He couldn’t blame the military because the marks on her body had clearly come from electricity, from him, and Mateo couldn’t bear it. He fled, initially back to his family who welcomed him and comforted him, but there was always that sorrowful undercurrent that they’d warned him not to join the human world. He couldn’t take it for long and fled even further, grief stricken and afraid of his own powers, he went across the ocean to Europe. He needed to be somewhere completely unfamiliar, somewhere that wouldn’t be plagued with too many painful memories.
The traveling and all the new experiences eventually helped dull the ache but the guilt remained, burrowed deep into him, and he was more reserved after that. He used very few aspects of his powers, stifling them and trying to seek out quiet places. He eventually got a degree in Library Sciences and took a job at the British Library where he met and befriended Rhys Dasior. They maintained their friendship even after Rhys went to work at Krovs Castle, which Mateo was somewhat curious about, though he didn’t exactly trust vampires. His family had always warned him about them, after all, but they’d warned him about most things. He was in sporadic communication with them, checking in every now and then by phone but they often tried to get him to come home so things were strained. He remained curious about Krovs and was even more intrigued when Rhys mentioned the librarian position was open. He did some research, knew staff members had to wear collars and that his species in particular always had them active to some degree. Wouldn’t that be a relief? Instead of having to worry and hold himself back, the collar could do it for him. The slavery issue was very troubling but he reasoned that maybe he could make their lives a little better just by being kind or offering them a quiet place to be for a time. After a great deal of thought, Mateo finally decided to apply for the job and once he was hired, moved to the castle. Newly arrived and getting settled into his position, he’s getting used to not worrying about hurting anyone around him and looking forward to getting to know the residents of the castle.
Positive Traits: Curious, patient, kind
Negative Traits: Stubborn, reserved, guilt-ridden
3 turn-ons: Confidence, dirty talk, bondage
3 turn-offs: Scat/vomit/watersports, degradation/humiliation, feet

Can we talk about this for a minute????
Tumblr media
The way Hector motions to the family to get behind him and puts his hand out to protect them is *chef's kiss*. He's already taking the role of Patriarch of the family. 🥹
Also, how he's at the front, being the leader and ready to jump in if De La Cruz lays a finger on Imelda. 🥺💜
The twins looking out for each other is everything to me. I don't know which one is which, but one of them pulling the other back broke me. It was so sweet! 😭😭😭
This gif is everything to me. It shows how much the family loves each other and how they look out for one another. 🧡
