What I feel like a lot of people on Tumblr don't understand is that it's normal for families to argue and fight. It's normal for families to get on each other's nerves and rub each other the wrong way. It's normal for families to have conflict. And this does not mean that the family is abusive or doesn't love each other.

Siblings will argue! Romantic spouses will say unkind things to each other! Everyone says things they shouldn't have when arguing. Because people argue.

The world is not divided into "people who have never done anything to hurt any of their loved ones ever" and "abusive toxic dysfunctional relationship."

You can fight with someone and still care about them. You can fight with someone and make up later - or not make up later but do things in lieu of an apology because that's how your relationship works. You can even not like someone but still love them.

It does not mean that a family is bad if they are not in perfect loving agreement some of the time, or even most of the time. It just mean that they're normal people.

Obviously arguing a lot isn't good. But never arguing at all isn't good either. That means that either one or more sides are too afraid of the other to voice their opinion, or that they are so removed from each other, their lives are so separate, that they have no relationship to speak of. That's no good either. What is healthy is to disagree sometimes, to talk things out. Even if that means sometimes yelling things out.

If you’re still looking for drawing suggestions, how about something with Héctor bonding with Victoria? I feel like there’s not enough of that going around which is a shame considering how much of a doting Abuelito I’m sure he is.

I highly recommend listening to Benny Andersson's piano rendition of "Thank You For The Music", as it's definitely one of the songs they would both learn on the piano.

This is from I Love My Family!, a Coco picture book about the Rivera family. It's written as though it was Miguel writing it for Socorro, with photographs and brief descriptions and the story of Miguel's adventure in the Land of the Dead (which means that Miguel definitely told Socorro, if no one else, and it's unknown if she believed him or not.)

So....this is the only picture of Imelda? (Presumably not the only copy, though; I doubt Miguel would tape in their only ofrenda photo in a book meant for his little sister.)

Imelda was born in 1899 and died in her seventies. She would have died in the 1970s. Photographs were much more common then; over the past fifty years, did she never take another photo?

In the fifty or so years between Héctor's departure and her death, did she never have another photo taken of herself? With Coco? With her family? Photographs were much cheaper. Cameras were much cheaper. How is it that this is the only photograph of her?

Were cameras for some reason very rare in Santa Cecilia even then? Did Imelda refuse to spend the money on another photograph or a camera even after the shoe shop was thriving? Was there some sort of accident, a flood or a fire, that destroyed all the other photographs of her? Was Imelda unable to bring herself to have another picture of her taken that didn't have Héctor in it?

Revolutionary Girl Utena-inspired Coco AU... but it's focused on Rosa Rivera

In 2017, the second eldest son of a family of shoemakers embarked on a journey to Escuela de la Cruz to discover his family's true roots after discovering that his great-great grandfather had been Héctor Rivera; a songwriter and fellow musician who used to travel with Ernesto de la Cruz before his untimely disappearance in 1921. An event which triggered a 100-year long music ban, and the establishment of a new school "dedicated to his name".

It had been four years, and nobody had neither seen nor heard from Miguel Rivera since.

Not wanting history to repeat itself, the head matriarch of the family along with her sons and their wives gave their blessings to their children, Rosa Rivera and Abel Rivera to go to Escuela de la Cruz and bring Miguel home. At first, the youngsters were reluctant but after a prophetic dream that Rosa had of her ancestors, Miguel's whereabouts, and an enchanted academy in the heart of México City the two of them finally complied.

Little did they know that the time and space continuum worked in a different way in Escuela de la Cruz. Everyone who entered the school grounds stopped aging, the dead were able to communicate with their descendants directly... and no living thing could ever leave. In order to be able to leave the school, students would have to face a series of duels with the final showdown being a duel with the headmaster: Ernesto de la Cruz himself. And nobody had succeeded past the headmaster's great-great grandson, Marco de la Cruz.

Including Miguel Rivera, who had been stuck in his 12-year-old body all this time... and the ghost of Héctor Rivera. The only ghost who could not leave the school premises.

After a series of misadventures and armed with weapons from their ancestors (a pair of boots and an enchanted rapier/rifle thing from Mamá Imelda & Tía Victoria, a pair of golden gauntlets from Tía Rosita & Papá Julio, and a guitar from Papá Héctor; all of which had been modified and enchanted by Tíos Óscar & Felipe), Rosa, Abel, and Miguel had found themselves in the middle of a century-long feud of music, family, shoes, and betrayal. Rosa even had found herself in an odd romantic tug-of-war with the cocky yet well-meaning(?) Marco.

And so as the next-next matriarch of her family, Rosa would have to learn to fully embrace who she is and lead her family to... a "revolution"? Whatever that is.
