Sometimes I reread bits and pieces from ORFNSP and since we're alone because they changed my brain chemistry. I will eventually get around to actually rereading them.

3. What’s a headcanon you can’t stop thinking about?

not sure if this is counted but i always like to think that once, ian got struck with grief about monica's death on her death anniversary. mickey asks him what's wrong and he opens up about it. ian will say it's stupid but mickey will truly handle it with grace and say nah man it's not. because yahknow, he gets it. and ian melts at it, because no one has acknowledged his grief like this before. mickey teases him about it a bit, sure, but deep down he held ian's mourning warmly, like petals on his palm. and they went together to the cemetery that day, simply sat in front of her grave and talked. the good things, the bad. and that despite it all "hey, tleast she popped out an alien lookin mfer i ended up marryin." they get pizza after.

5. What’s an idea you’d love to create if you had the time/inspiration?

i actually have a LIST lmao. one of those has something to do with art because i cannot take my mind away from human mickey and manananggal ian (manananggal is a Philippine myth creature with wings and can separate the upper half of its body from its lower half).

6. What’s something you’ve discovered since entering this fandom? A new trope you love? A different analysis of the show? Something else?

oh man. believe it or not, i was never into fics. i was in fandoms before, but i just couldn't get into fics within those fandoms (i tried). this is the only time i truly liked and LOVED reading fics. it really speaks volumes about the talent and dedication, and i'm glad i got to experience it.

it's also fun reading metas on the show and getting different perspectives, especially on characters. one of my favorites (just because i was so distressed about it the first time i watched it) are analyses on the city hall scene and ian's hesitation on marriage. after reading up others' thoughts on it explaining the why's, i totally felt some relief and was able to get some sleep. lol

7. What’s an underrated trope or concept you’d like to see more of?

apocalypse aus 👍

8. What’s your favourite season? And has this changed after multiple rewatches of the show?

The first five seasons are gems to me. but i truly love season 2 because it's so chill (at least compared to some of the heavier seasons after) and the gallaghers move as a unit. special mention for season 4 because it holds Emily and Lazarus.

9. What’s a plot hole you wish had been answered or resolved?

same qualms with @mickeysgaymom about mickey's mom. brain rotting over it.

10. What scene or moment do you feel isn’t discussed enough?

not gallavich related, and i'm sure people have already mentioned it, but sometimes it hits me how smart debbie is. like, i know she's smart, but people easily forget from all the chaos. at the heart of it, she's a fast learner and also would and have excelled academically.

11. What line/dialogue/description from something else (a poem, a book, a tv show, a movie, or something else) do you feel describes Ian and Mickey’s relationship?

aaaa @lingy910y beat me to it! it's totally "I'll take care of you. / It's rotten work. / Not to me. Not if it's you." but if i could pick another, maybe "I could recognize him by touch alone, by smell; I would know him blind, by the way his breaths came and his feet struck the earth. I would know him in death, at the end of the world."

12. What do you think is next for Ian and Mickey post-finale?

they'll grow old together and be just as in love, no matter what happens in between.

Tbh that’s a tough one because there are so many great fics for Gallavich. It’s definitely one of my better ships in that department and that’s partly why I’ve read so much of it. I don’t think I could give you just one fic or just one author but I’ll do my best to narrow it down somewhat lol.

As far as authors go:

Shamelessquestions: I think everyone who has dipped their toes into Gallavich fic has read at one of her fics. With such classics like TIPDIG or her newer ones like ORFNSP (and my personal favorite of hers, You Can Bite Me) she’s a hard one to kiss. Somehow the master of both comedy and angst.

BeckyHarvey29: Another classic author. She’s definitely one of the authors I would point out to everyone first getting into the ship.

devovitsuasartes: This person has such a knack for writing very unique (and sometimes weird) ideas and just making them great.

biblionerd07: Possibly my favorite author for Mickey’s characterization in particular.

Favorite fics (top 10 in no particular order just to narrow it down somewhat lol)

sideways by the amazing whaticameherefor ❤️ Canon divergent fics during/after S6 are one of my favorite categories of Gallavich fic and this one is my fave

maintenance by devovitsuasartes ❤️ Sci-fi AU where Ian is an android and Mickey a mechanic as they travel together on a space expedition. Trust me it’s so good.

The Fight For You by WishIHadWings ❤️ Post S7 canon divergence where Ian decides to find Mickey in Mexico. This was the first post S7 fic I read after 7x11 originally broke my heart so it was very therapeutic

all comes down to you by beckyharvey29 ❤️ AU where Ian is Mickey’s boss who he hates and they have to pretend to date. Lots of romcom tropey goodness

Kingdom of the Southern Son by 09cityskylights ❤️ King Ian/Warrior Mickey. I revisit this fic so often that it’s ridiculous. Tragically incomplete but there’s enough written to still get a lot of enjoyment out of it.

You Can Bite Me by Shamelessquestions ❤️ My personal favorite fic by the master. Vampire Ian/Hunter Mickey.

'til our compass stands still by biblionerd07 ❤️ Basically a re-write and much better version of Ian and Mickey’s storyline in S10. Instead of Paula, they both think the other killed Terry.

i had a dream (i got everything i wanted) by oforamuse ❤️ A post S6 canon divergence that takes place 9 years after 6x01. Lots of feels in this one.

The Thing About Living by lalazee ❤️ AU where Mickey is a patient with kidney failure and Ian is his med tech. This is a brand new fic but it truly swept me off my feet and I had to include it. Don’t worry it has a happy ending.

Two of Your Earth Minutes by the_rat_wins ❤️ Alien! Ian. Definitely something to read if you want fluff.

Like I said though, there are so many great stories and authors for this ship. So I know this list is nowhere close to covering all of the amazing ones.

good afternoon chey! i've seen this ask going around and it's been so interesting seeing what people's favorites are and which tropes/themes are on people's "oh no no" lists! here are mine:

hurt/comfort — i think this might be one of my favorites of all time. it’s so true to character for them. both physical and emotional pain are such a huge part of their story in canon so to see that pain/relief moment in a fic is just chef’s motherfucking kiss

angst — i love to suffer. i’m a masochist at heart and while i don’t love the idea of my babies hurting, i love watching them climb out of that hole. it’s such a satisfying thing to experience as a reader and it’s hard to execute, so when i find a fic with really good angst, i’m hooked

enemies to lovers — ohhhhh baby. gimme gimme. i want that knife-to-the-throat anger, that family rivalry beat, that “fuck you” “no, fuck you” “okay” vibe. friends to lovers is fine, strangers to lovers is great, but enemies to lovers? inject that shit directly into my veins

found family — this one fucks a bitch up. it’s me, i’m the bitch. as someone that has a tricky relationship with her family, found family is very important to me in fics and in real life. especially for these two. found family is at the heart of shameless and i think that’s something a lot of people forget sometimes, so i love love love when fics bring that to life

AUs — give me all the AUs. i want to watch them fall in love in every possible way in every possible universe under every possible set of circumstances. i know this isn’t a trope per se, but i’m counting it. hand ‘em over. show me your world-building chops. chances are i’m gonna eat that shit up

as far as my “oh no no” list, i have a few:

BDSM PwP with zero aftercare — like.....WHY?

i would like incest & mpreg fics to stay as far away from me as possible

Y/N fics make my skin crawl, i simply cannot self-insert at that level

i can’t read fics where the boys cheat on each other with other people (not in an ORFNSP-type way, that’s totally different)

i don’t fuck with a/b/o (i know this is super popular in like, every single fandom right now, and i’m SO insanely happy for y’all, but i just can’t do it!)

I just spent the whole weekend locked up in my apartment reading Old Rules for New Side Pieces. What a masterpiece, I could not put it down. I cancelled plans, put my phone on do not disturb and ate hotpockets all weekend because who has time for cooking.

I don't think I have lever loved a fic as much as I did this. I was screaming at Ian " baby don't do this", I was in tears when Mickey asked for his keys back😭😭😭😭, I was raging with Mickey all alone in his apartment 💔...... This angst damn near broke me.

I felt like I went through a whole therapy session working through their problems with them and it was all worth it.

I can't really put into words how grateful I am that you took your time and wrote this for us...for free 🥺. I want to create a time machine and go back in time so I can reread this again.
