mickey + roots (an excerpt from James Norbury) [x]

when i sat and thought about mickey and growth i found myself imagining roots. moments of growth that didn't feel exactly like blooming but like rebirth and creating a foundation for his own desires and his own place in the world. the first thing a seed does before it breaks through towards the sun is that it sprouts roots down into the dirt below. what we see on the surface growing upwards is delicate, easily blows in the wind, and easy to tear. but that is deceptive, because hidden in the earth there are hundreds of roots weaving around and in-between the soil, the stones, and even older stronger roots. they reach lower and wider making themselves a permanent piece of the land to the point that to truly extract it would require extraordinary strength and effort that would leave behind a literal crater in the earth. we see so many plants get mowed over or seem to die in the winter, but their roots keep them alive and we see them flourish again and again. and that is what mickey's growth feels like to me. he planted himself a new place in ian's existence and he grew deep strong roots that stayed alive even when things above the surface looked bleak. and now they can weather any storm.

As a lesbian, I find it difficult to understand attraction to men. That being said, when I see some bara-style dilfs with big soft bellies, I can't help but feel like a warrior watching a display of martial skill from a respectable rival school. I lock eyes with the master leading his students in their daily drills and give him a single nod of undying respect, and he returns the gesture. We both understand that the difference between Dilf and Milf is a single letter.

You can’t pick and choose what parts of feminism you want. You can’t support your queer sisters but not your trans sisters. You can’t support your fat sisters but not your sisters of colour. Being a feminist means creating a positive and equal space for women. The second you start excluding women based on which characteristics you do or do not find appealing you have defeated the whole point of being a feminist.

Thinking about how Scarlet and Brom and how clearly he loves her even from just the one line we get from him mentioning her. Like he compares his son to her "Your mind alway wandering, just like your mother" and hes just so fond. How she fell in love with him because hes kind, and took care of her at her weakest point when she was teetering on the line of death.

Likely endangering himself by deciding to save her because that leaves him open for anything to attack him between where he finds her and his home. How they spent so much time together while she was healing. How when she was better she could have left and never come back, but by that point was in love with him, and chose for Oakvale to be her home- their home.

How she stays a hero after her marriage and their children, and he's supportive and never expects her to give it up, clearly happy to be the hands on type of dad and spend time with his kids.

How he died fighting to protect his family. How Scarlet doesn't even get to see him last time, how she comes home to her husband dead, her home being raided, her son missing, and then as she's dragged away she watches her daughter get her eyes ripped from her head. She spends over a decade being tormented by Jack in bargate, alone not even allowed with the other prisoners. Unsure if her children are okay, if they survived the raid, unable to actually mourn her husband in any substantial way.

How even in death she doesn't get to stay with him, tormented by screamers and then offering up herself in one last heroic act to open the bronze gate.

Just.... thinking about Scarlet and Brom.

#playing through the first game again for the first time in years #and scarlet is by far one of the most tragic characters in the fable franchise #everything op says here #but I also feel like on top of all that #she also blamed herself for the oakvale raid #her bloodline was the reason Jack went after her and her children after all #and she’s an ex hero who probably felt like she failed in protecting her family #I can’t imagine how it must have felt sitting in bagrgate for years and having no idea what happened to her children #or if they’re even alive (especially after witnessing Theresa get her eyes cut out) #definition of character who deserved better #I’d love to know more about her relationship with brom they sounded so sweet and had girlboss x male wife energy #scarlet robe #scarlet x brom #fable #gaming
