Recipe Book - a Pikelan One-Shot
Summary: a car chase, a woman who fears for her man, and a violent opening up - HOW WILL THEY SURVIVE? (they play mario kart, pike gets worried she's overstepping some boundaries, and Scanlan talks about his Feelings a little)
Words: 2,559
Day 7 of (hopefully) 30, using the ‘September’ prompts by @creativepromptsforwriting
Read on AO3!
“YES YES YES” Pike squealed, “One more bend and you are toast, Shorthalt”
“In your dreams, Pikey” Scanlan retorted, though his contorted face suggested a slight lack of confidence.
After a night of loud music and drinks, Pike and Scanlan decided today was to be filled with nothing but comfy clothes and video games. A few hours into the Mario Kart marathon, however, Pike was getting restless and decided it necessary for the game to get, in her words, “spiced up”.
Despite Scanlan’s suggestions, she insisted the best way to ‘spice up’ the game was by placing a wager, and so after 2 separate instances of the terms of the bet being changed (‘nonono best of three is stupid, it should be best of five’ ‘that is not a fair win, King Boo's AI clearly cheated' ) they found themselves strewn across their worn grey couch, eyes locked on to the screen.
Currently Pike, as Dry Bones, was in 1st and had just entered into the final lap of what they had just insisted would be the deciding race. Scanlan, as Link, was trailing behind in 3rd, after Bowser had decided to blue shell him only moments beforehand.
“Oh Mr. Shorthalt get ready to expose yourself” Pike said, mind too focused to fully hear the words as they left her mouth. Scanlan was even incapable of responding to such a suggestive request, transfixed instead on getting his rightful place in 1st back.
Whipping around the track, Dry Bones’ driving got more and more erratic with every passing second. Driving past yet another cow, he barely managed to avoid a mud puddle which would have lost him precious moments he couldn’t afford to lose.
Link, on the other hand, was facing disaster after disaster. Between bananas hidden around sharp turns and meandering cows, he somehow found himself soon falling into 4th place, the promise of a win becoming a near impossibility as he did.
If there had been anyone else in the room, they may have taken notice of the two people playing this game as well as their avatars in front of them.
They may have seen that offscreen, Pike was beginning to rise from her seated position, the blanket that lay on her lap falling away as she did. From her squat-like position hovering above the couch, Pike started biting her lip and gripping the controller much tighter than needed.
They could also have seen Scanlan, who stayed in his seat, but who’s face had become rigid, to the point that he had not blinked in nearly 2 minutes.
But the only people in the room were too focused on the television before them to notice any of that.
That is until,
“AHA!” Pike yelped, spinning herself around to face her opponent as she did, “I. Fucking. Won”.
Scanlan found it hard to tear his eyes from the game he had been so focused on for the last few hours, but eventually he found his way back to Pike’s eyes - like he always did.
“On a technicality, I suppose you maybe won that one” Scanlan conceded, smirking up at Pike - happy for her win but refusing to explicitly acknowledge it to her face.
Standing up fully now, Pike dropped her controller to the couch below her dramatically, “You cannot ruin this for me, Scanlan. I officially won this tournament. And you know what that means”
Pike’s legs had seemingly turned jelly from what must have been a combination of lack of movement and spontaneous elongated squatting, and in that moment they seemed to fail her as she suddenly dropped to the floor in front of Scanlan’s legs.
She pulled herself closer to him, and propped her head on his knees as soon as she was able to. “You have to show me now” She stated, eyes wild with excitement and intrigue.
From his spot above her, Scanlan smiled slightly, “Are you sure this is what you want for your prize?” he asked her, placing a hand on her cheek as he did.
“Positive” she answered instantly, nuzzling his hand slightly when it met her skin.
Scanlan shrugged and rolled his eyes at her perseverance, “Okay!” he proclaimed “but don’t blame me when it’s not that interesting!”
He shifted his torso forward, intending to try and stand but Pike made no attempt to move when he did so, “Pikey”, he addressed her softly, her eyes still locked onto his, “I need to get up to do it”
Pike sighed deeply but surrendered eventually, and picked herself off the floor (a more than difficult feat when your legs are currently made of jelly).
“Let’s-a go!” Scanlan deadpanned, holding a hand out for Pike to take.
Pike simply frowned in response, but eagerly grabbed his hand in hers as she did.
Once their hands were interlaced, Scanlan turned away from the still-playing race recap, and started to move his way toward his bedroom, Pike trailing behind him slightly as they walked.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“I could have sworn it was in here” Scanlan called back to her, head half buried in his closet that now stood in complete disarray.
It had been 10 minutes since they entered the bedroom, and 8 since Scanlan first stuck his head in his closet and began pulling through every inch of it in search of Pike’s prize.
Pike sighed slightly from her spot on the bed, “It’s okay if you don’t have it. I’ll just have to think of a new prize” She assured him, tucking her knees beneath her head and beginning to think of the many possibilities before her.
“Ooh” she spoke after a moment, “How’s about ice cream?” she asked, directing her question toward Scanlan’s feet - the only part of him she could currently see.
Her question gained no response, and his feet soon disappeared into the closet with the rest of him.
Accepting the defeat that she would simply have to sit and wait for him to re-emerge eventually, Pike lay back on the bed and allowed her eyelids to flutter closed.
When her eyes opened again, she was immediately met with an overly-eager Scanlan. He now stood at the side of the bed, entranced in a shoebox he held in his hands.
“You found it!” She said, yawning as she did.
“Yeah, I don’t even know what’s in here, really” Scanlan said, eyes not leaving the box.
“Let’s find out then” Pike urged, scooting her body closer to his standing form as she did.
Scanlan plopped himself next to her, keeping the shoebox in his grip. He was good at playing at aloofness, but Pike could tell from his demeanor that he was anxious, uncomfortable, and excited all at the same time. Being him though, she also knew he would in no way want to talk about any of those feelings and so she simply placed a hand on his arm and squeezed in support.
He flipped the box open soon after, and turned it to her, “would you do the honors?” he asked.
Before Pike’s eyes was a treasure trove of Scanlan. Everything from souvenirs to the odd baby photo was poking it’s head out from the mess of stuff that somehow all fit together inside this small box.
“I’d love to” she said simply, and took the box in her hands, slowly beginning to sift through it when she finally felt the man beside her relax a little.
The first thing she pulled from the box was a harmonica. A small, rusted silver thing, with an intricate V on it’s side, “this is cool” Pike said, the worry of stumbling into rocky terrain stopping her from asking or saying any more about it.
After a few more various knick-knacks, old birthday cards and jewelry, all of which Pike observed in either silence or with only a small comment (‘pretty’/’wow’/’you were so young'), Scanlan interjected in her exploration.
“Pike” he started, placing a hand on hers, in which currently rested a passport photograph from at least 20 years ago, “I can tell you want to ask things about this stuff, you’re doing that tongue thing you do when you’re tryna do your sudoku’s - it’s adorable, don’t get me wrong, but I’d love you tell me what's on your mind rather than try and not get into anything messy. It’s gonna get messy eventually, unfortunately” he admitted, a softness in his eyes telling Pike he was scared but wanting to open up to her. All he needed was for her to ask.
She tilted her hand, and the photograph in it, toward Scanlan, “This?” She started, “What are you, 6? 7?”
A nervous smile started on his face as he gazed into the eyes of his younger self, “No actually…that is unfortunately me at the ripe age of 12”
Pike couldn’t help the bulge in her eyes as it happened, “12?” she asked bewildered, looking back between the man in front of her and the boy in the photograph, “I knew you’d said something about a growth spurt but that must have been real rough”.
He laughed lightly at her comment, nodding and confirming her theories, “Turns out girls don’t like you so much when you look like a literal baby”
What followed was an hour of intense analysis and exploration of the random knick knacks that were Pike’s only clues to his past. From his first visit from the tooth fairy, to a particular edgy (and hilarious) song he had written at age 15 after he kissed a boy for the first time, Pike felt like she had struck pure gold.
The late afternoon quickly turned into evening, and the shoebox’s interior grew less and less crowded as time wore on, until eventually all that remained was a small, worn leather folder.
“What’s this?” Pike asked as she grabbed for it, removing it carefully after seeing its corners had become nearly congealed to the box around it.
“I don’t actually know” Scanlan admitted from beside her, “I haven’t looked in here for a long time”
Finally freeing the folder, Pike popped it open and gently pulled its contents out. Seemingly in response to the movement, Scanlan’s breath suddenly slowed.
From inside the folder, Pike had found a notebook, which she imagined had once been a lavish and delicate thing covered in an intricate pattern, but who’s outside was now worn from use and age, and who’s insides were crammed with various bits of paper.
“Wait”, Scanlan said as she went to open it, Pike freezing immediately upon his request, “I think I’d like to open this up. I haven’t seen it in a long long time”
She simply smiled at him in understanding, and handed the notebook over with ease. It took him a moment, but eventually Scanlan accepted the book and began to simply caress the front cover.
Pike didn’t feel inclined to question or rush him, and so she took a moment to simply watch and observe him. From her seat beside him she found she was able to see hints of emotion she wasn’t sure she would have caught from any further away.
In his hands and arms she saw a gentleness, one he carried only on occasions where he was desperately trying to make sure what he held was real, was cared for, and wasn’t going to leave.
Finally, Scanlan flipped the book open, and Pike was struck with the sheer messiness of the journal before her. The front page was a simple ‘This book belongs to’ page, and yet every inch of it was filled with one scribble or another.
Pike tried to make out the name labeled on the dotted line, but found herself dumbfounded by the scrawl of handwriting atop it. Moving quickly on to the other sporadic notes which littered the page, Pike did her best to make out some of the hidden messages, but only found herself able to decipher 2;
“Sully - Piano Lessons” and
“12/12/88”
The second one she imagined was a date, but given the complete lack of context for either message, she couldn’t tell if this was something that meant anything or if it was just another scribble on a page; a forgotten note taken in haste.
Just as Scanlan went to turn the page again, he paused, and brought his calloused fingertips over to the date Pike had just read.
12/12/88
She thought hard on it, but came up empty for what it could have been.
“Her due date” Scanlan finally provided, “She always called me a 'scoundrel' for making her wait an extra few weeks” he laughed lightly to himself. "scoundrel" he repeated lightly.
In the silence that followed, pieces of the puzzle that was Scanlan began slotting into place in Pike’s mind.
And suddenly, that scrawled name along the dotted line became clear as day.
Juniper Shorthalt.
Flicking her eyes over to Scanlan, she took note of the joy that seemed to have sparked in his eyes and she grew desperate to climb behind them and watch the memories that played inside.
“She seemed like such a good person, Scanlan” She said, unsure of what else she really could say in such a moment
“She really really was” He responded, “Fucking awful handwriting though, Ioun’s sake, I cannot read half of this chicken scratch” he continued, turning the notebook every which way as he did, chuckling lightly with Pike’s soft laugh following suit.
“She called it a ‘recipe book’” He explained, replacing the notebook back onto his lap again, “And like, sure there’s a lot of recipes in here, but really it was her scribble pad. Everything, everything went in here”
“I don’t know how she managed that, I’d forget what every note meant instantly if I had something like this” Pike said, hoping to get Scanlan talking about his Mother more.
In their 5 years of knowing each other Pike had heard very little about Juniper - mostly all she knew was that she was kind hearted, had supported Scanlan through his artistic endeavors, and that she had died when Scanlan was young.
Despite her careful attempts at triggering conversation about the woman, Pike had found Scanlan was nervous to give any more details than the basics and so usually most conversation about her had covered those same three topics on a loop, in the most detached way Scanlan could muster.
But now Pike was finally getting context to the woman, and relished in the moment while she could.
Scanlan flipped through an assortment of pages quickly, and finally landed on a random page in the middle.
“I think this one was my favourite” he cooed, and Pike read the recipe name along the top - Shorthalt’s Shortbread - exhaling a small laugh at the name as she did.
“Why don’t we make it tonight?” Pike asked him, seeing the short list of ingredients needed, “we’ve got all that in the cupboards, I think”
Scanlan paused for a few moments longer than Pike was comfortable. Had she crossed a line? Had she pushed him back into the fear of the intense intimacy of their situation? Was this all just too much for him?
Until finally she felt him exhale beside her and put a hand to her knee, “You have no idea how much I would love that, Pike”

"So if you finally got to play baseball with the rest of the crew, how would you play? Mainly your chemistry and stats?"
"Aw, and I've been working so hard on brainstorming my team names too. Well, mostly stealing them, give me your unbiased, but favorable opinion on all the ones I have so far:
Wendy Beauties Wendy Bows Wendy Dynasties Wendy Fans Wendy-Gos Wendy Models Wendy Monarchs Wendy Princesses Wendy Violets
As for chemistry, I'm like Miss Congeniality over here! I get along with everybody! Unless they happen to piss me off, which I guess does happen quite often.
I have good chemistry with: Baby Donkey Kong, Birdo, Blooper, Boo, Bowser, Diddy Kong, Dixie Kong, Donkey Kong, Dry Bones, Funky Kong, Goomba, Hammer Bro, King Boo, Koopa Troopa, Magikoopa, Monty Mole, Paragoomba, Paratroopa, Pink Mii, Shy Guy, Tiny Kong, Waluigi, Wario, and Wiggler
And bad chemistry with: Baby Daisy, Baby Luigi, Baby Mario, Baby Peach, Bowser Jr., King K. Rool, Kritter, Luigi, Mario, Peach, Petey Piranha, Toad, Toadette, and Toadsworth
Finally, there's my stats... it sure would be nice if I could have all tens across the board, but no one likes a Mary Sue.
Bat stat: 6/10 Pitch stat: 7/10 Field stat: 5/10 Run stat: 8/10"

Encanto cast mario kart mains in no particular order:
Antonio: Yoshi
Dolores: Rosalina
Isa: pre-move she’d feel pressure to play as Daisy or Peach, but post-movie she likes playing as Dry Bones
Agustin: Tanooki Mario
Bruno: Baby Luigi or Toad
Julieta: Isabella
Pepa: Bowser
Felix: Metal Mario
Luisa: Koopa
Mirabel: Inkling
Camilo: Wario
Abuela: Villager
- Isabela playing Dry Bones or even Dry Bowser is super fitting. I feel like she'd be ruthless too.
- I think Luisa would actually prefer the princess characters. I think she'd prefer Daisy because the flower motif reminds her of Isa. She's not too good and bumps into obstacles often. She's just happy to be here.
- Mirabel would play any of the koopa kids, and depending on which one she picks she points to one of her siblings or cousins and is like "that's you". She's pretty good but will go easy depending on who's leading. If by some miracle Antonio or Agustín is leading she'll save her blue shell. If it's Isabela or Camilo; no mercy.
- I think Agustín would also like Toad or the any of the Koopa kids. He tries SO hard but ultimately almost always gets last place.
- Julieta absolutely plays Isabelle and no one expects her to be that good but she's actually the best at the game.
- Bruno is definitely attracted to cutesy characters so Baby Luigi or Toad fits p well with him. I can't see him being that good at the game but I also think he tends to throw just to let the kids place higher.
- Pepa plays Bowser and is extremely competitive. It frustrates her to no end how effortlessly good Julieta is at the game.
- Félix enjoys the ogs and would main Mario or Bowser. He'll go easy on Antonio and Antonio only, everyone else is getting every item he has thrown at them.
- Dolores would play Rosalina or Shy Guy. Whenever she wins literally no one sees it coming because she's always biding her time before she strikes and gets first in the last lap.
- Camilo for sure plays Wario, Waluigi or King Boo and is either really good or really bad. Whenever he does poorly he claims he was just going easy so Antonio wouldn't feel bad. He is a liar.
- Antonio would definitely play Yoshi, Cat Peach or Tanooki Mario with him being an animal guy and whatnot. He's not very good yet, but he's just happy whenever he doesn't get last place.
- Alma isn't very good and doesn't quite understand the controls, but she likes how cute the characters are and cycles through the ones that remind her of her family:
Luigi reminds her of Bruno
"Ay míralo, vestido de verde y todo tímido como mi Brunito"
Rosalina reminds her of Pepa
"Mira como la persigue la estrellita como tus nubes, Pepita"
Isabelle reminds her of Julieta,
"Quiero jugar como la perrita del moñito de Julieta"
Mario reminds her of Félix
"Me gusta porque es chaparrito y sonriente como Félix"
Waluigi reminds her of Agustín (Much to his dismay)
"Ese flaco con el bigote todo raro si que se parece a Agustín"

May I ask for more details about your Mario AU? Namely, the sequence of events leading up to Mario trying to fight Antasma alone after Luigi was attacked with nightmares? I live for Protective Big Brother Mario. ❤
Sure! So, in this au, Mario and Luigi are monster hunters. "Monsters" here being undead creatures such as boos and dry bones. They're known and admired as heroes all over the kingdons. One day, they were called to Roseway, a town in one of the northern kingdons, to fight a seemingly magic-induced plague of nightmares. There they met the legend of the bat king Antasma, ruler of nightmares. While part of the town saw him as a just a tale to scare children, others very much believed he was real and alive. So the brothers started to search, aided by bowser and peach. Turns out Antasma was real. And, rather than of nightmares, he fed of fear - normally causing that fear with nightmares, which caused that misconception. And he could sense fear much like some bats can sort of sense blood. So he took interest in the brothers. Mainly in Mario. Why? Because they were brave in different ways. Luigi was always scared, yet stayed and fought no matter how much his knees were shaking. Mario, on the other hand, seemed to know no fear. He was never truly scared. And Antasma wanted to feed on the fear of the man who was never scared. It would be the finest meal he would ever feast on. So he took advantage of mario's impulsive nature and put a curse on Luigi, plaguing him with nightmares. And Mario rushed to fight him as soon as he knew that was his fault, no matter how much Peach warned him not to go unprepared and alone.
After that goes terribly wrong, I guess Mario stays as Antasma's prisioner until his friends (led by a very angry Luigi) attack the castle and beat the crap out of the stupid bat

OKAY i said i would make a post about my thoughts on paper mario a while ago and im finally writing it out
ill put it under a break because its probably gonna be long-ish
update: yea this bitch is LONG
okay so overall i really really enjoyed it!! it was really solid for the first entry in the series and i could definitely see the inspiration that ttyd later took from it. one thing that i didnt know about was partners not having HP, which threw me for a little bit of a loop. partners as a whole in this game don't play as active of a role as i wouldve expected because they have so little lines but using them in battle is still very fun! another small thing but i also hadn't expected mario to be completely silent, but it later grew on me!
i'm also gonna list my experiences and opinions on each chapter so here we go!!
chapter 1 - pretty alright for an introductory chapter! i didnt find anything especially notable, apart from getting 2 partners in one chapter. navigating the koopa bros. fortress was fun, and i loved the battle at the end!! their theme is SUCH a banger i had to sit back and listen to it for a bit when the fight actually started ehe
chapter 2 - not quite a fan of this one imo? i liked the first part through the mountain, but the trek though dry dry desert kinda took it out of me. BUT the addition of my favourite partner made up for it! parakarry my beloved <3 also the cutscene where dry dry ruins rise up??? that shit was SPECTACULAR. i absolutely loved how it turned dark when it first came up, i wish it stayed like that for more than just until you entered the ruins. the boss itself wasn't too exciting for me, probably because there wasnt much of a story?? i dont know how to describe it. actually its like that for quite a few of these bosses, but its the first entry for this series, so i wont fault it too much.
chapter 3 - this might be my FAVOURITE chapter- the suspense buildup throughout the entire chapter was AMAZING holy moly!!! first through the forever forest when you have bootler ask for you, and then wandering the mansion itself. i TOTALLY thought that boos were gonna be actual enemies when i saw them floating around. sneaking around tubba blubba's castle was so so fun to do, and i legitimately panicked when you ran into him in the hall and also when he wakes up and chases you back to the windmill. i didnt actually think the heart itself was the boss, just a miniboss, so i freaked out when i left the windmill and was immediately thrown into a battle with tubba blubba. i cannot express just how much i enjoyed this chapter, seriously!!
chapter 4 - coming back to toad town with the music change threw me for a bit; i wasnt expecting action to pop up so soon! figuring out that you could actually go into the toybox was such a "wait, what??" moment for me, but like, in a positive way. it was really cool to navigate this chapter and the lantern ghost encounter genuinely creeped me out at first because it was COMPLETELY dark. the fight against general guy is also a BANGER i could listen to it all day
chapter 5 - man i LOVE the whale. just a big guy willing to take u across the ocean :^) i really appreciated how you weren't stranded on the island too, like how you were on keelhaul key in ttyd. the ravens are also funky little guys, love them too. again, the lava piranha didnt really have any substance to it BUT it was a nice fight nonetheless! when it popped up again i was shocked but i made it through!! also fuck kolorado he doesnt deserve his wife
chapter 6 - this one's formatting is really neat- one central area with lots of branching paths, which i hadnt seen in my past pm experiences! i loved the quest leading up to the big beanstalk, plus the environment was so pretty!! the little part with the sun tower popped out to me, i'm not sure why though. maybe it was the music, it was so different from the flower fields theme. at first i had actually expected to go up to the clouds earlier, maybe like midway through the chapter. i thought that would be the "dungeon" of this part, so i was a little bit let down when i realized that the fields were the majority. however, the bit of the clouds we do see is SO good i LOVE the atmosphere!! huff n puff was actually relatively easy, using parakarry and lakilester for their all-around attacks. the guitars were a nice touch for his theme as well!
chapter 7 - oh dude i LOVED this chapter. i didnt know what i was expecting when i first went into the pipe in the sewers, whether it would put me into a village immediately or if i would have to make it through some screens before. needless to say, i was relieved when it popped me out into shiver city. the whole place felt "warm" which was really nice!! i was comparing it to ttyd's chapter 7 and fahr outpost which i didn't really vibe with, so it was a nice change! the whole murder plot was also unexpected but i enjoyed the whole "whodunnit" mystery! omg as im typing this i realize just how many aspects of this chapter i love this is gonna be long,, the entire snowy atmosphere is just so PRETTY and starborn valley felt so solitary to the rest of the land, like its own little bubble. i also had no idea that ninjis were in this game so when i saw one at merlon's i was like HUH?? anyways the way up the mountain to the crystal palace kept me on my toes; i thought that was the dungeon at first! the small bit where you see madam merlar and she tells you the story of the palace really got to me i have no idea why. the music and mysticality of it all was just SO good. dont even get me started on the crystal palace itself HOLY MOLY. the whole reflection bit was SO SO clever and the moment you realize its NOt actually a mirror?? fucking magnificent. this has to be my favourite dungeon in the whole game because it has such a NEAT gimmick!! it also has my favourite mario enemies, duplighosts! FUCK the crystal king though. he stunlocked me with his freezing move because i could not get the hang of blocking it. my partners really carried me for that battle; thank god for quick change
chapter 8 - THIS CHAPTER DELIVERED. the buildup for the entire game leading to this point. OUTSTANDING. i had to sit back and admire star haven because its so pretty- did i mention i love the water graphics in this game?? it has a pixelly look but it works SO WELL. going to the ship to take you to bowser's castle really felt like a "this is it" moment. the entirety of bowser's castle was So Good, it kept me on my toes the entire time!! slowly advancing as the music got more intense REALLY pumped me up. tracks that start off with only a couple instruments and eventually add more as you progress is one way to make me go BONKERS. the one bit where you make your way outside on the bridge and the music dials down and then you re-enter on the other side to it SLAMMING you in the face- that was Great. and then the complete silence as you get outside peach's castle HOLY SHIT. and then you actually enter the palace and the music is SO EERIE and youre like OH SHIT THIS IS REALLY IT. seriously, the buildup for this entire castle is done SO magnificently. i hadn't expected to fight bowser twice, i guess it was the game's way of letting u level up One Last Time before u got to the big bad. that being said, i wasn't too worried on getting a game over since i was fucking stacked on items. but that's besides the point- the fight itself got my heart POUNDING. the effects for the star rod and the star's powers were really nice to see in action, and the little section with peach and twink was so cool! i was expecting a little interlude where you would get your stats maxed out because thats how its like in every pm game, but it was still moving :)) bowser's final battle theme fucking SLAPS. the guitar especially sounds AMAZING. you really see him as a threat here and its so badass. his healing move fucked me over multiple times- i probably ended up having to deal with double his base HP over the course of the fight.
after the fight was over and you got to see peach's castle float down with the soft music in the background, it really hit me that its done, its over. again, the effects in this game are so pretty and theyre utilized SO well for the n64. visiting toad town one last time with all the npcs was a really nice touch- for some reason i really loved being able to interact with vanna t. (chuck quizmo's toad assistant) she's ADORABLE and i will probably end up drawing her sometime :)) the credits were also something that i really enjoyed- i LOVE the ongoing theme of parades at the end. seeing everything and everyone in the game condensed into a short 8 minutes really got me, i cant remember but im pretty sure i was smiling the whole time! and a small sidenote- TOADS WITH GLOWING SPOTS ON THEIR HEAD HELLO?????? I WANNA DRAW THAT SO BAD.
the ending screen with peach and mario looking at the fireworks made me really soft and i teared up a little because i was finally finished. the addition of pop diva's solo in the track was also so touching, it was my favourite sidequest in the game so hearing it again brought up Emotions :')
one thing i wasnt sure of was if there was a post-game mode and my completionist heart was disappointed a little when i found out i couldn't advance from the end screen and was forced to reset. although not many games from this era had post-game content so i cant dock too many points for that.
the paper mario series has a fond place in my heart, and finally being able to play the game that started it all really was a special experience. it really cemented my love for the original formula and i could see many places where ttyd took inspiration from. this game really is fun, and i would highly recommend playing it yourself if you have the means!

Super Mario 64
Tumblr media
To start things off, i thought I’d play a game i played a lot of as a kid, but never quite finished - When i was a kid, i had a DS and Super Mario 64 DS, which i played an absolute TON of. I’m pretty sure it was the only DS game i had for a very long time, so you can imagine i played the crap out of it.
That was, until i ended up accidentily destroying my DS lite and cartridge with water. I was pretty heartbroken, though i did eventually get a DSI (which to this day, is my baby) but I never got a new copy of Mario 64 DS, and it always ate away at me in the back of my mind that i never finished the game.
So, i figured now that I have 3D All stars, and I’ve decided to do this whole Smash Journey thing, it was finally time to finish it, even though I’m playing a port of the original rather than the DS version. I’m sure there will be a few things I’m going to miss from the DS, but that’s okay.
Anyway, now to talk about what i actually thought of the game. I still think it’s a really solid 3D platformer even to this day, although a few parts of it are quite a bit frustrating, for example I really don’t like the majority of red coin stars, and i absolutely hate using the wing cap, but those aren’t enough to really taint the experience for me, this is a great game.
I guess i should go over each level individually, so let’s start with our hub world. Peach’s Castle is pretty good as far as hub worlds go, though i do wish it was more clear what the actual purpose of each room was. Like, we have a few things like the aquarium, but what is the room with the Bob-omb Battlefield painting supposed to be? I think it would be a lot cooler if we knew what these rooms were for, like if there were furniture to make it clear that Bob-omb Battlefield’s room was supposed to be a study, or something. Still, though, I love how everything feels appropriately regal but not too snooty - it does actually feel like it belongs to Peach.
Bob-omb Battlefield is a fantastic first level. It looks cool, it’s all pretty and green, and the boss has an absolutely magnificent mustache. I remember just playing around here a lot as a kid, even after i had gotten all the stars here. Just a nice place, and i think one of the first areas people think of when they think of Mario 64.
Whomp’s Fortress is a pretty good level, not too much to say about it. What i can say is that i wish Thwomps and Whomps would get more spotlight in Mario, because they’re kinda neat and i wish i could see more levels built around them outside of Mario Maker.
Jolly Roger Bay. THAT GODDAMN EEL GAVE ME SO MANY DAMN NIGHTMARES AS A KID. As for the actual level... well, it’s a water level which I’m not usually a fan of in 3D games, and despite it being called “Jolly Roger Bay” there isn’t a whole lot of piratey stuff here, aside from the ship. I wouldn’t call it bad, but it’s far from the best level in the game.
Cool, Cool Mountain is alright. I had a pretty rough time racing the penguin down the slide, so i got pretty excited when i finally beat it.
Big Boo’s Haunt is a ghost house, and i personally LOVE ghost houses and other spooky stuff, so this one is one of my favorite levels. Boo are some of my favorite Mario enemies, too, so I’m always happy to see them.
Bowser in the Dark World is... Meh. Just a series of platforming and then you fight Ol’ King Koopa for the first time. Like Jolly Roger Bay I wouldn’t say it’s bad, but not my favorite.
Hazy Maze Cave was weirdly a lot of fun for me, despite the fact i remember hating it as a kid. Probably actually one of my favorite levels in the game, actually. I love the Metal Cap, too, easily my favorite power-up in this game.
Lethal Lava Land was pretty damn good too, it just feels a lot better to jump over lava than it is to jump over an empty void. The Bullies are another under utilized Mario enemy that i wish we could see more of.
Shifting Sand Land is okay. I’m not usually someone who really likes desert levels all that much unless they’re doing something unique, and this one really isn’t. Nothing really wrong with it though, aside from that.
Dire, Dire Docks was actually good despite it being a pretty generic water level. I think it has to do with the way it was designed, the stars here just feel particularly satisfying to collect.
Bowser in the Fire Sea is what i like to see from a Bowser level. Lava and Fire everywhere, lots of perilous jumps and enemies. I vastly prefer this to just a weird void.
I absolutely HATE the Snowman and Penguin in Snowman’s Land. I had so much trouble getting past them. Otherwise the level is pretty good, but i despise those two so much.
Wet-Dry World is pretty frustrating and confusing and is my least favorite level in the game. I also have a lot bad memories of playing this level as a kid, so I’m not a fan of it to say the least.
Tall, Tall Mountain is a lot of fun, though I struggled far more than i should have with that damned Monkey.
Tiny-Huge Island is my favorite level in the game. It’s got it all - a fun gimmick, good platforming, and great stars to go after. I adore this place.
Tick-Tock clock was fun, but I’ll admit i found the gimmick kinda annoying because i kept getting my timing off when jumping into the clock.
The last regular level in the game, Rainbow Ride. This place might just be my second favorite level, it was just a good fun challenge.
And finally, Bowser in the Sky. Like Bowser in the Dark World, i felt this place was pretty mediocre. Not great, not terrible, but for the final level it should’ve been a lot cooler.
And i guess that concludes it! Overall, i think this game still holds up alright even after this many years, though i do miss certain levels from the DS version and the other characters. Next up, I’m going to tackle THREE really short games one after the other (Kind of.)
Thank you so much for to reading my thoughs!

Junior
Just and idea about why Bowser might've told Junior that Peach was his mother.
~
She’d left him, gone back to her kingdom an ocean away. Which was fine, they’d done their best to make it work but it just wasn’t no matter how good a match Kamek and her parents had insisted it was supposed to be. So Bowser was honestly relieved she’s taken the initiative and finally ended it by leaving in the middle of the night. Her only farewell was a letter, explaining her reasons for leaving and a gift.
In a plain unwrapped box, she’d left it on the table in his room. The letter warned that it was fragile and oddly had apologized for leaving it with him. Which didn’t make much sense; if it was something bad enough she had to apologize for it, why leave a gift at all? And even more why had she assured him that it was his? Who else could it possibly be for?
Pulling back the lids of the box revealed an oblong shape, a bit bigger than his fist and wrapped in a soft cloth resting on a cushion. Keeping in mind its fragility, he carefully lifted it with one hand to unwrap it with the other. … An egg. Why would she leave him an egg? It didn’t make sense unless it was…
“Ah shit!”
That couldn’t be it though, could it? She’d have told him, right? … Maybe not, they’d never talked much and thus he didn’t know her as well as one think despite their arranged marriage having lasted almost three whole years before one of them had finally taken the initiative and left.
Shaking a little, he carefully placed the egg back on its cushion. He then rushed back over to his nightstand where he’d left the letter to reread it. … Suddenly her apology for the gift and the assurance that it was his made a lot more sense.
Growling, he balled up the paper and tossed it. She was a deadbeat, leaving him to raise their child on his own, how dare she? Whatever, he didn’t need her, he could do it on his own just fine so she could go fuck herself for all he cared.
A good deal of his anger and resolve faded though as he returned to the table to look down at the egg, nestled snugly on the cushion, the soft cloth still partially wrapped around it. How the hell was he supposed to do this alone? He wasn’t ready to be a dad yet. That wasn’t supposed to happen for a few more years at least.
Holding back a groan, he returned to his nightstand again to ring the magic bell to summon Kamek. About a minute later Kamek arrived through the secret passageway that connected his lab to Bowser’s room.
“Sir?” he said as the wall closed behind him.
“I’m sure you’ve heard the news by now.” With the way rumors normally ran through the castle, Bowser was likely one of the last to find out because there was no way she’d snuck out without someone seeing her. Whoever had spotted her would’ve told everyone long before Bowser had even woken up this morning.
“Yes, I’ve heard. You want me to send people after her?”
“No, why would I want you do that? I’m glad she’s gone.” Or at least he would be if the sole thing they could both enjoy together hadn’t led to his current predicament. They should’ve been more careful but… it was too late now and she’d left him to deal with the consequences alone. “She left me this though.” Carefully, Bowser pulled the egg out again to show Kamek.
“Oh uh… I suppose you have an heir now sir, which was the whole point of the arrange marriage so congrats.”
“What do you mean ‘congrats’? How am I supposed to handle this?”
“Very carefully sir, especially once the shell hardens. That’s when it’ll be its most fragile.”
Bowser growled at him. “You know what I meant. How am I supposed to take care of a kid?”
“Well, I can tell you from experience it is very difficult to raise a child, especially as a single parent. If they end up being anything like you were as a kid, you’ll certainly have your work cut out for you. However, you do have the option to give it up for adoption or hire a nanny to do all the work for you. So really sir, you don’t have to raise them if you’d prefer not to.”
Both of those were options. Going the adoption route, he’d have to be very secretive about it to mitigate the chances of rumors about this popping up. The nanny route would probably be easiest and no one would fault him for it, he already had enough responsibility ruling his kingdom without adding raising a child on top of that. But… it didn’t feel right to do that, not for him anyway.
“No,” he said as he pulled the egg closer to his chest. Its shell was still soft and so fragile. It’d be far too easy to damage it by accident. But despite that… “I’m keeping them and raising myself. Their name is… Bowser; Bowser Junior.” Regardless of whatever their gender would end up being, he wanted to name them after himself. “So help me. You’ve supposedly done this before,” his parents had died before he’d even hatched, leaving Kamek as his sole caretaker, “tell me what I’m supposed to do.”
“For now, just keep the egg warm and dry. Near but not right next to a space heater should do nicely. Talk to them occasionally, especially as they get closer to hatching. When they hatch is when the real works begins, that won’t be for a year or more though so there’s plenty of time to prepare for that.”
A year, that’s how long Bowser had to prepare for his role as a single father. That both felt like a long time and a terribly short time. There was nothing that could be done about it though. “Very well,” he said as he looked back up at Kamek. “Bring me a space heater and something to act as a cradle, either through the secret passage or teleport it straight here so one sees. I want this kept a secret for now.” He’d have to announce it eventually but not yet. He needed some time to prepare for that announcement and he wanted to wait for the rumors about his now ex-wife leaving to have died down a little.
“Yes sir.” Kamek was the only one in the whole castle who could be trusted to keep a secret. “And well… I’m proud of you for taking on this responsibility. I believe you’ll be a good father.” With that, he turned and left through the secret passage.
“I hope so,” Bowser replied with a sigh as the hidden door closed, becoming a wall once more.
 -
Over the next few months, he got used to the idea of being a dad. He talked to Junior every day, in the morning upon waking up and at night before going to bed. There was still one thing that bothered him though.
“You need another parent,” he said as he sat down by the egg cradle one night. He’d had Kamek get him some parenting books to act as another source of information on what do about raising a kid and they’d mentioned that two or more parents was the ideal. More would probably be better, right? But he personally preferred the idea of a monogamous relationship and finding one good partner would be difficult enough, let alone any more. “So I’m going to get you one before you hatch, all right? You’ll love them I’m sure.” Hopefully anyway.
The next day, he set Kamek the task of complying as much information about the rulers of all the nearby kingdoms as was possible. Marrying a fellow monarch made the most sense, right? It would expand the lands they both ruled and would give Junior more to inherit when it came time for them to do so.
It took almost a whole week before Kamek returned to him with what he’d found. He’d organized it in large blank binder that he handed to Bowser in his room because despite everything, Bowser hadn’t announced Junior’s existence or his new marriage plans to the world yet.
Each page in the binder was devoted to a layout of information about the primary ruler of all a nearby kingdom, such as name, age, gender, a picture of course, marriage status, and a paragraph of general personality information and backstory. The first page was for King Bomb-omb. He had an attractive mustache and a decent bio but he was already married. After that was King Boo but he was dead and therefore not likely to be a good step parent and the weird tongue thing boos had going on was not something Bowser was into. Queen Bean would’ve been a good option but she too was married.
The fourth page was the profile for the Mushroom Kingdom ruler: Princess Peach Toadstool. Finally, someone who was single and alive but… “If she’s the ruler of the Mushroom King why is she still a princess and why is she human? Isn’t the Mushroom Kingdom populated by Toads?”
“According to what I’ve been able to gather,” Kamek replied, “she was adopted by the former ruler at a young age and declared the heir of the kingdom. However, Toad law is strange, for reasons I haven’t been able to figure out, the actual title of ‘queen’ can only be held by a Toad. Despite that, Princess Toadstool is no less ruler of the Mushroom Kingdom. It doesn’t make much sense but that’s pretty standard when discussing Toads.”
Bowser grunted because that was certainly true; the bastards all had names that started with ‘Toad’ which was just plain nonsensical. “And they’re all right with their ruler being human despite that law? Really?” Wouldn’t they want a proper queen?
“Supposedly she is a very good and kind ruler so yes, they’re more than happy to have her as their ruler.”
“Hmmm…” Bowser looked back down at her profile. Everything Kamek had just told him was written there as well some more about her generosity. She was young too, around the human equivalent of his own age – based off what he’d heard of how humans aged anyway. … “I want her,” he decided, tapping her picture with his claw. “She’s perfect.” Her kingdom directly bordered his and Junior deserved a kind mother, especially since Bowser had trouble being kind himself.
“Of course, sir. Would you like me to send an envoy with a message about your intent to court her? Or would you like to write the missive yourself?”
“I’ll just take an airship down there to talk to her myself.” Bowser didn’t have time for letters and all that nonsense. He needed to make sure she’d be good mom and then marry her before Junior hatched which was still several months away but undoubtedly those months would pass by in flash.
***
“Welcome back Your Majesty,” Kamek said as ascended the airship’s boarding ramp to greet Bowser. “How did things go in the Mushroom Kingdom?” As if that needed to be asked with how short a time Bowser had been gone and the less than happy look on his face; he’d clearly been rejected. Which was not surprising in the least and now it would be Kamek’s job to soothe his ego for however long he chose to be grumpy about this.
“Uh… it went well,” Bowser said which was a surprise. “Sort of anyway, really depends on what counts as ‘going well’.” Oh no, he’d done something less than smart, hadn’t he? Bad enough to start a war with the Mushroom Kingdom? Before Kamek could try to find an innocuous way to ask…
“Untie me this instant you horrible people!”
A group of koopatroopas and shy guys were dragging a bound woman out of the captain’s cabin. Naturally she was quite displeased about it as was not going easily.
“Uh… sir, is that Princess Toadstool?” Kamek asked because it looked an awful lot like her pictures.
“Yep,” Bowser said before raising his voice to instruct the minions carrying her. “Take her up to one of the tower top rooms, one of the ones with the lock on the outside. And keep a guard on the door at all times too just in case. Untie her though, I don’t want her to hurt herself.”
“Yes sir!” the minions spoke in unison before hustling to do as ordered.
“You won’t get away with this,” the princess shouted over them, earning more excited murmurs from the minions who’d gathered to watch.
With a sigh, Kamek turned back to look at Bowser again. “May I have a word with you in private Your Royal Spikiness?”
“Fine but make it quick, I got to prepare a proper greeting for my guest.” With a huff, Bowser led the way back onto the airship and into the private cabin. “Now what is it?” he demanded after slamming the door shut.
“Sir, may I ask why you chose to kidnap Princess Toadstool? I was under the impression you’d gone to court her.” Kamek kept his tone neutral in part because he wasn’t really sure how to feel about it. There were benefits to having a rival kingdom’s ruler held hostage but Bowser’s supposed goals might just lead to a huge mess instead. Still though, even that might be exciting, things had been too peaceful and boring lately.
“I did but she rejected my engagement offer. I tried to change her mind because I’d already gone all the way down there but she still said ‘no’ so I may have gotten a little mad and just grabbed her and brought her to the airship. I’m sure she’ll change her mind eventually, I’m the Koopa King after all, who can say ‘no’ to me?”
Ah yes, the good old ‘I want it so it’s mine,’ logic that Bowser liked to employ. Really it was Kamek’s fault for letting him get away with that so much growing up. There was no point telling him that there was no possible way she’d change her mind after this. But that wasn’t much of a bother especially since unless she did something to really piss him off, he’d get tired of the game after a while anyway.
“Now,” Bowser said, his tone indicating the end of the conversation, “help me prepare a welcome party for her. The sooner she changes her mind, the better. And I need to figure out if she’ll be a good stepmom to Junior.”
[One Mario Game Later]
“Fuck that fucking Mario bastard,” Bowser growled for probably the fourth time in the past hour as he got up from his throne to pace angrily back and forth again. “Who does he think he is, breaking in my castle and stealing back my princess?”
“Yes, fuck him Your Royal Furiousness,” Kamek replied in a deadpan as he inspected his handiwork in fixing his bent wand – he had spares of course but magic wands took a lot of effort to make so one getting damaged was aggravating. Personally, he was more frustrated than angry as anyone would be after getting trounced by a man who all sources indicated was just a plumber. But yelling, swearing, and pacing around the room wasn’t going to fix it and at this point was getting quite old.
Bowser huffed and spit out a stream of fire, thankfully not onto anything flammable. “Mark my words Kamek, this isn’t over! I’m going to kidnap Peach again and then if and when that red bastard shows up, I’m going crush him into the ground. And then the princess will be mine.”
“Yes sir.” Honestly Kamek was fine with that. The kingdom had clearly been at peace for too long; the troops were all inexperienced or rusty. Also, Kamek’s work thrived during conflict, testing new spells and/or new inventions worked best when it was a proper field test. So, both for his liege’s sake as well as his own, he was going to do his best to make sure they ultimately came out on top of this new conflict.

Mario Super Sluggers: Theoretical Human AU!
DISCLAIMER: By Human AU, I mean that all the playable characters are human (which seems sort of obvious to me, but you never know)! As such, they live as long as your average human lives in a non-harmful environment.
With that noted, well... as Mario would say, “Let’s-A Go!”
Captains:
Mario & Luigi: Mid-late 20s, maybe early 30s. Old enough to have the mustaches, but young enough to seem young. They run their unfortunately deceased fathers’ plumbing business.
Peach & Daisy: 2-3 years younger than Mario and Luigi tops. Working to inherit their families’ crazy rich companies - the Toadstools run a produce business, the Sarasas sell gardening supplies.
Yoshi & Birdo: Yoshi is midway in their teenage years, about 14 to 16 years old. Birdo is a little older, but still a minor (16-17). Yoshi x Birdo. Each of their families run rival diners, and Mario is a family friend of the Munchakupas family (slightly edited last name of Yoshi).
Donkey Kong & Diddy Kong: Donkey Kong is a young adult (early-mid 20s). He takes care of his nephew Diddy (13-15), and makes money by helping his family in their businesses here and there. A former criminal who turned his life around after his old team killed his grandfather without him knowing, he occasionally helps the police in their fight against his old team - the Kremlings to atone. The fuzz don’t know he was one of them.
Wario, & Waluigi: Wario and Waluigi are a bit older than the Mario Brothers, but not by much. Late 20s to mid-30s. Salesmen and occasional thieves/robbers/et cetera when desperate.
Bowser & Bowser Junior: Leader of the closest thing Toadstool and Sarasa have to a rival company, the Darklin family run the leading business for meat and general grill-based items. Tensions are high between the three companies (well, just for the Darklin - Dr. Isaac “Dry” Darklin pales before the other two), and when the boss has enough of not being number one, he has his personal blackmailed bodyguard/hitman Bowser Koopa (mid 30s to early 40s) go to eliminate Peach & Daisy (that, or his preteen Junior gets it). Mario and Luigi, who were called to fix something (there was nobody else open and not rude), notice and step in. Although he gets away, they still are rewarded for more than the plumbing job. Word spreads of the “Super Mario Brothers,” and from there, things get better and worse for all parties involved.
Minor Characters (assume all multicolored characters are about the same age):
Baby Mario, Baby Luigi, Baby Peach, Baby Daisy, & Baby DK : Nonexistent in this AU. Maybe flashbacks?
Toads: Workers at Toadstool and Sarasa. If you look around the hotel for all of them, you’ll usually see 5 of them at most.
Toadette: Toadette is Sarasa’s Head of Staff.
Toadsworth: Toadsworth is Toadstool’s Head of Staff, as well as Peach’s personal assistant and teacher.
Piantas and Nokis: Mario Brothers’ neighbors. Three brothers and three sisters
Dixie Kong, Funky Kong & Tiny Kong: Diddy Kong’s girlfriend. Dixie met Diddy when DK saved her and the other two from the Kremlings (though they lost not only family members Chunky & Kiddy but close ones such as Bluster and Lanky). Sharing the same last name is actually coincidental.
King K. Rool & Kritters: Leader and lower members of the Kremlings. K. Rool always butted heads with DK before K. Rool became leader. Responsible enough to put their differences beside them... for a while; then he tried to have DK offed. DK lived, of course.
Goomba, Koopas, Paratroopas, & Paragoomba: Used to work for Darklin in its dirtier deeds, but now freelance in crime as hired workers. Often seen working with the Wario Duo, these 6 have a weird dislike for the Kremlings (with the even weirder exception of Donkey Kong; they secretly make sure anyone after the Kongs or their close ones are dealt with). Paratroopas and Paragoomba often work as messengers and part-time at the post office for honest work.
Magikoopas: You might think they have a religious role, what with the robes and all. WRONG! They’re scientists for Darklin. Led by the one known as Kamek, they’re known as the Magikoopas because Bowser introduced them to Dry and their ability to accomplish crazy scientific feats. They aren’t actually part of the Koopa family, however; Bowser is merely longtime friends with Kamek, and rumors spread. Bowser still isn’t entirely sure if they actually know/use magic or not. Unlike Bowser, they willingly work with Darklin, as he provides means for their experiments, and that difference threatens to divide the old friends in the end.
Dry Bones, Blue, Green, and Dark Bones: Dry’s kids who were lost in an accident. The scientific skill isn’t the only reason Dry hired the Magikoopas...
Boo & King Boo: The security team for Sarasa which Daisy occasionally lends to Toadstool, the Boos are brought in after Bowser’s attack. When on break, they like to pull harmless and wisely-targeted pranks on Luigi while he’s there.
Petey Piranha & Wiggler: Old friends of King Boo called in as extra support. Petey and Wiggler is Daisy’s tutor in gardening business; think younger but bigger and far more intimidating Toadsworths for Daisy.
Shy Guys: A gang. They’re seen redeemed and working for the Sarasas at the end.
Monty Mole & Blooper: Thieves who follow the same path as the Shy Guys for Toadstool.
Weapon Brothers (Hammer/Fire/Boomerang Bro): Construction workers called in after Bowser’s attack. Paid off to keep quiet about him before a later attempt.
What do you guys think? I worked hard on this, so I hope you like it!
Valete,
TheBigPapilio

SUPER SMASH BROS. UNIVERSE  Part 1, Chapter 1: Flood the Wedding Lake
THE MUSHROOM KINGDOM…
All across the Mushroom Kingdom things stop. The toads, goombas, and koopas put aside their chores and head to Princess Peach’s Castle to watch her coronation and her wedding. Peach has insisted that both affairs to happen on the same day, the first for the kingdom. She and Mario have waited long enough, so now that they had their moment of peace it was time for them to make to professor their love under the law.
The coronation happens before the sun is up. There are already hundreds of toads outside the walls of the castle waiting to get a glimpse of the new Queen. Princess Peach joins the cabinet in the Star Room to begin the coronation. There the Chancellor and the Toad Minister, the two leading heads of her cabinet, wait to officiate the process. The Chancellor is a toad with grey spots on his head, he dons a deep purple robe and a golden pendant to acknowledge his title. Toad Minister wears a green mushroom cap with a matching vest, and a gray curly mustache. The room is silent until the door opens, it’s Toadsworth. He is a high adviser to Princess Peach and the closest thing she has to a grandfather.
“Hi ho, Princess,” Toadsworth greets as he stands beside her. The room is still silent.
The Princess looks down at him, calmly and happily. “Hi ho.”
“Right, now that everyone is here,” the Chancellor starts. “It is time for the coronation to begin.” The Chancellor reads scripture from old Mushroom Kingdom texts that make sure Peach rules for the people. She promises to rule justly, peacefully, and courageously. After all the jargon, the coronation closes with the moving of the crown. “King Toadstern, is there anything you’d like to say?”
In front of the Peach and Toadsworth is Henry Toadstern, the interim King. He holds the crown in his hand, gripping it as tight as he can. “Losing this crown is going to be tough. I struggled with the duties for a while. But more recently I got comfortable with the crown. Although I knew my role was temporary, I hope my impression will be permanent. Your highness, if you need any guidance, know that you have my support.” Toadstern smiles but still grips the crown, the rest of the cabinet looks at Peach for her response.
“When my father informed me I would be heir to the crown I lost a lot of things. I lost my innocence to the kingdom, my mother and sisters to jealousy, and my father to disease. Like every girl in this position, I rebelled against it. I ran off with a man and became a damsel. But now that I’ve defeated mine and my kingdom’s biggest enemy, I can say that I am ready. And despite all the things I lost with the title of the crown, I am happy to say I gained a friend while I took the time to claim it,” Peach interrupts the ceremony to hug Toadstern. She bows her head and Toadstern holds the crown over her head, then places it on her blonde hair. Peach rises.
“Well, well,” Toadsworth smiles under his grey mustache. “The Mushroom Kingdom finally has a new Queen.”
Later…
The day has started and the castle is full of commotion. Toads are running around everywhere. Mario and his brother, Luigi, are hiding from all the chaos. Mario is just beginning to put on his suit for the wedding. His groomsman Luigi and Geno are trying to adjust whatever they can. Peach enters the room, Mario is aghast.
“Peach!” Mario shouts. “We’re not-uh supposed tuh see each other!”
“But look at it!” Peach bows her head to show Mario the crown.
           “It’s huge!”
Luigi enters the room. “Woah Princess you’re gonna have tuh start doing exercises to keep that crown on your head.
           “Luigi, it’s Queen,” Mario says.
“Ah right, sorry, your highness,” Luigi says nervously.
“Don’t worry about it Luigi, just call me Peach,” Peach smiles at Mario. They can’t seem to believe it is finally their wedding day. Someone barges in the room.
“Princess –Queen Toadstool!” It is Toadsworth. “You need to get ready!”
“Alright,” Peach complies and follows him back to her chambers.
As Toadsworth walks Peach back to her dressing room she notices all of the decorations. Floral valances are draped around the tall walls of the castle, pink and white roses hang from the ceiling. She looks out the window to see the toadstool flags fly above the towers, and spikes defend the surrounding area. Peach roams the castle to look at all the directions to make sure everything is perfect. The ceremony is being held in the great hall of the castle, with white benches and a pink carpet to complete the theme.
           “Queen Toadstool” Toadsworth stops Peach.
Queen Peach giggles. “I’m not used to hearing that name.”
“It’s quite alright your highness, but you can look at the decorations later! We must ge ready!”
Toadsworth takes Peach to her dressing room where maids are there to help her get ready. The maids are waiting there setting up makeup, the dress, and anything else she needs before the wedding commences. However, Toadsworth sends the maids out so it is just him and her in the room. He sits Peach down and cranks up the chair so he is eye level with her. Toadsworth holds the makeup in his hand with a brush and starts to paint away.
“Toadsworth!” Peach smiles. “I didn’t know you could do makeup!”
“You’d be surprised the things I would do for you,” Toadsworth continues away on Peach’s face. “How are you feeling?”
           “I’m worried,” Peach admits.
           “About what? Mario?”
“No of course not. Mario is the least of my worries.”
           “Then what?”
“I’m worried about the kingdom.” Toadsworth stops but Peach continues to speak. “All this time I’ve been gone I’ve just been a damsel. They think I’m a damsel. A damsel that isn’t fit to lead. I’ve wasted years getting captured by apes and overweight turtles. There needed to be an interim King because I couldn’t even defend myself! It’s embarrassing!”
           “Then prove them wrong.”
Peach scoffs, “Don’t make it sound so easy Toadsworth.”
“It should be!” Toadsworth protests. “Bowser is gone, there is no more threat to the Mushroom Kingdom besides your insecurity.”
“Hmm,” Peach is quiet. “Why do you always know what to say?”
“I’m your grandfather, that’s what I’m here for Princess –er –um, I mean Queen.”
After Toadsworth finishes Peach’s makeup and hair, the door to the dressing room barges open. There Peach’s three sisters, Pinkie, Pearl, and Plum run into the room. All three sisters have blonde hair like Peach. Pinkie is tiny and small, but the prettiest out of the three sisters. Pearl is tall and skinny, with big lips and heavy features. Plum is short and fat, her hair only went to her shoulders and her dress seems just as short. They pour sand from odd places and smell of sweat.
“Where have you been?” Toadsworth shouts.
“It’s a long way from the Dry Dry Dessert,” Plum spits, some of which lands on Toadsworth’s face.
“Farther then the Wet Wet Tongue,” Toadsworth says while wiping the spit off his face. Toadsworth brings the maids back to finish getting the rest of the girls ready.
Before the wedding…
As the day goes on guests starst to arrive, Princess Daisy of Sarasaland is one of the first of many. She is joined by Rosalina, the guardian of the cosmos and one of the Lumas she looks after. Yoshi and Birdo come together and meet with the Kongs: Donkey, Diddy, and Dixie. They find their seats in the first few aisles. Cappy and Pauline joined the ceremony as well. The rest of the great hall is filled by toads, toadettes, goombas, koopas, and boos.
The ceremony begins, Mario stands waiting at the head of the great hall with Luigi and Geno as his groomsmen. Pinkie, Pearl, and Plum awkwardly walk down the great hall across from Mario. Suddenly, the shuffling of feet spread through the great hall but you don’t see anyone get up, except the humans. Queen Toadstool, for the last time is covered in white. She graces down the aisle and meets Mario’s hand. The Toad Minister walks them through their vows, then Mario pulls back the vail.
“Did Toadsworth do your makeup?” Mario asks.
“Yes! Yes he did!” Peach laughs.
           “It looks great, Peach.”
“And you may kiss the Queen,” The Toad Minister watches as Mario kisses her into a dip. The great hall echoes with cheer. In the courtyard, all the toads that camped out cheer as well. Mario takes her down the aisle and they begin the celebration!
After the wedding…
All around the gardens of the castle are tables and games for everyone to play. Toadsworth, Chancellor, and Toad Minister oversee everything like the old toads they are. Peach is overjoyed to see Daisy and Rosalina. Pauline and Cappy lead the band. As dinner gets closer everyone starts to get settled in their seats. During this time, Peach’s sisters say goodbye, they claim they have to be back to the Dry Dry Desert as soon as possible. Peach thought they cared but it is apparent that they don’t. Daisy and Rosalina fill their seats at the wedding table so Peach doesn’t continue to be upset.
Dinner is supposed to start, however, Luigi is supposed to make his speech but he is nowhere to be found. Peach sends Daisy to find him. It doesn’t take long for Daisy to find Luigi, she knows all of his hiding spots. She finds him in the bathroom on the third floor near the ballroom. Daisy knocks on the door.
“Just hurry up! I gotta go too,” Daisy jokes. She hears fumbling, then flushing, then the running of water. Luigi comes out looking like he usually does: nervous. “Do you want me to stand with you while you give the speech? I could introduce you!”
“Yeah-uh that would be good,” Luigi and Daisy start walking. “–Don’t you have to go to the bathroom?”
“Not anymore.” Daisy smiles. They head back to the tents where people are patiently waiting for their dinner. Everyone is silent. Dead silent. Daisy grabs the microphone.
“Hi everyone!” Daisy boasts. “Dinner is gonna take a little bit, I think the chef dropped his mushroom top in the soup. So now we’ll be having creamy mushroom soup instead of creamy bisque.” Silence still. “Anyways, the best man and brother of the groom would like to make a speech, Luigi!”
Luigi takes the mic but can barely hold onto it. “H-hi.” He opens his crumbled paper, wipes the sweat off his brow and prepares himself. “My brother is –a –a hero in my eyes. He has –uh saved me, countless times. As well as the Princess. I mean Queen. H –he has also –uh. He has also helped me learn –a –about politics –and –and people and love. He has shown me love. And I –I hope you see how –how much of a hero he is too, Peach.” Luigi sits down next to Mario who hugs him and kisses him. Toadsworth gets up on a stool so he can be seen and is handed the mic.
“Thank you Luigi. Now, this evening I’ve heard Peach correct people hundreds of times. Normally I would say you know, ‘Peach you can’t do that, it is rude’ but I realized the reason she was correcting people is because they kept calling her princess. Peach’s title isn’t princess, it’s Queen. Now, mistaking a regale’s title can banish you from the premises, however, we have gallons of mushroom soup that someone needs to eat. So we will wait till after everyone eats the mushroom soup to banish them.
“Did you know that no one has ever had their coronation and wedding on the same day, no one! In the entire Mushroom Kingdom history. Queen Peach managed to implement two essential ceremonies into one day. Now, I know she may have been absent for a while, however, planning two royal ceremonies in the same day is the hardest thing she will have to do as Queen. So for anyone that doubts her, know that. And to Mario, know that Princess Peach may have been your damsel to save but she is the Queen now. Congratulations to the both of you. Now let’s eat!”
The food is finally released to the masses, now the celebration can really begin. Rosalina’s lumas make a light show in the sky for everyone to view and enjoy. Some of them come over to the wedding table.
“Oh Daisy!” Rosalina calls Daisy’s attention. “I think that it’s time we have a friend in Sarasaland.” Rosalina brings over a orange colored Luma and gives it to Daisy. “It can communicate with any of the Lumas. So you can reach me, or Peach at any time, whenever you want.”
“Thank you!” Daisy jumps up and down. She takes her Luma to meet Luigi so she can bring him to the dance floor.
Rosalina inches closer to Peach. “So how come Mario isn’t King? You’re the Queen and he married you. Shouldn’t that make him King?”
“In the Mushroom Kingdom there are certain rules for the royal family. If you aren’t the heir of the crown then you have to go through a certain set of trials to be welcomed into the nobility. So in Mario’s case, after he marries me he has to affirm a governmental policy, law, act, or treaty and it has to be approved by my cabinet. And secondly he has to pay debt to me, like give me a child or restore my reputation –anything like that.”
“So in order to qualify as King he needs to pay dues to you and the kingdom.”
“Right, to prove his loyalty. His title would be King Adjutant, just because I have rank over him.” There is a pop in the sky.
“Ooh, it looks like the light show is getting interested, let’s go watch,” Rosalina takes Peach and Mario to watch the Lumas in the sky dance about. Colors flash around and swirl in different motions that mesmerize everyone watching.
Shortly after the light show people start to leave. Mario says goodbye to Geno, Pauline, and Cappy. Most of the other guests leave as well. It starts to get cold so Peach takes the party inside. After they enjoy a few glasses of wine, Daisy starts to get tired and calls for a carriage to take her and her Luma home. Yoshi, Birdo, and the Kongs don’t stay long after that either. Rosalina waits till it’s pitch black outside, this way the Lumas and the moon can illuminate a clear path to the Space Observatory. Mario, Peach, and Luigi talked for a while before they all started falling asleep.
Later that night…
Suddenly, a big rumble shook the ground around the castle. Mario gets dressed and heads to the balcony, expecting to see Bowser return with a bigger and hotter air ship. He is surprised to see water pouring out from over the shrubbery rampart. It pours from the east and south sides, though in that direction are villages of the Mushroom Kingdom. The rampart is surprisingly strong enough not to collapse but doesn’t stop the flow of constant water. Peach joins Mario outside of the balcony to watch as the moat overflows, the lawn becomes oversaturated and the land is flooding.
“Your highness,” Toadsworth runs in, stops and notices that Peach and Mario are already aware of the disaster. “Meet us downstairs.”
Mario and Peach meet Luigi and the cabinet at the second story main stairwell. They notice that the first two steps leaving the first story are underwater. Peach looks over to Luigi, he still has his sleeping cap on and his overalls are backwards. Luigi’s eyes roll to the back of his head, he leans backwards, then forwards then, SPLASH! Into the water.
“Well he’s awake now!” Toadsworth comments. “We do we suppose we do?”
“Huh! What kind of question is that?” Toadstern asks.
“Mushroom Kingdom has never had a crop die, a serious drought, or a copious amount of water in its entire existence. Apparently today is the day where all the records are broken!”
“We need to get a group of toads to start building a barrier,” Toad Minister commands. “Mario we’ll need your help with that.”
“What about the dungeons? There’s people in there!” Toadstern asks.
“We need to make sure the drainage system is still intact too,” Toad Minister adds.
“What about the damage control on the first floor, what if people are trapped somewhere?” Toadstern wonders.
“QUIET!” Toadsworth shouts. “We need time to think.”
“No –uh, you don’t,” Luigi mutters.
“What did you just say to me boy?” Toadsworth asks in disbelief.
           “Grandpa,” Peach tames Toadsworth.
“Woah! Luigi and I can handle this,” Mario starts. “Peach and the cabinet will go to the Toadstool Manor. Luigi and I will take care of the flood, we’re plumbers!”
“And how exactly do you plan to fix the flooding issue?” Chancellor asks.
“Let me handle that Chancellor,” Mario says.
“You heard him, pack a bag.” Peach says. The cabinet leaves unhappy with the situation but complying anyway. “Mario, I do hope you know what you’re doing.” Peach leaves Mario and Luigi to deal with the flooding.
“So Mario, what are we gonna do about the flooding?” Luigi asks.
“Gee Luigi, I have no idea,” Mario admits.
Moments later…
Two carriages are waiting outside the castle. Peach holds her dress up to see the water up to her calves. Peach, her Luma, and Toadstool get into the first carriage then the rest of the cabinet get in the other. The Toadstool Manor is all the way down the north road leading out of Peach’s Castle. It’s quite smaller from the castle but is a wonderful summer home that Toadsworth often lives in to get away from the castle.
“This is quite odd Peach…” Toadsworth has been trying to wrap his head around this situation. The Mario brothers ran them out of the castle almost instantly. Toadsworth needs to discuss this with someone. As he has said before the Mushroom Kingdom has never suffered.
“I don’t want to talk about this,” Peach quashes. She hasn’t been given the time to think. No one has. She needs to sit inside her head for a while. “Luma, contact Rosalina and let her know what happened.” This may be the most important decision she makes. In a crisis like this they need support from outside people. Rosalina doesn’t have room for the entirety of the Mushroom Kingdom but she does have resources and more importantly guidance. She will gladly be a hand in the storm. If there is anything that the Mushroom Kingdom needs it is a helping hand. Peach considers reaching out to Donkey Kong and Yoshi. She doesn’t see any of the cabinet going so, she’ll have to –they stop.
One of the drivers opens the door. “Your highness, it seems as though the road has suffered some damage.”
“Well can we move through it?”
“We can, but I’m not sure how it will be as we continue.”
“Let’s carry on. Let me know if anything else happens.” The door closes and Peach is left to her thoughts. Peach will check in with Mario when they get settled into the mansion. They continue on as Mario and Luigi try to fix the problem at the castle.
Across the water…
Across the Wedding Lake (named after the day it was created on), Birdo is dripping from the waves that just attacked her. She looks below as the villages of the Mushroom Kingdom are now destroyed. She shakes her head, refusing to think about all of her friends that are under water. The waves seem to come from nowhere! The Mushroom Kingdom had never faced any sort of disaster like this before.
As she is flying she sees something red in the water. Birdo floats down to see a kid in a red boat with a dragon-like face. She thinks she saw the head move. Birdo stares at it intensely. It must not have. She circles around to the boy who is dressed in green. She hears someone murmur, it must be the boy. Birdo hears it again. She catches the jaw of the dragon moves and circles around to look at it. Is she imagining things? Birdo did enjoy herself at the wedding, maybe she should just move on. Birdo reaches out her claw to touch the dragon. It bites her!
“Link! Link! Wake up!” The dragon boat shouts. The boy, Link, wakes up and slashes his sword around. Birdo backs off. Link then pulls out a baton and swirls it around the air. The breeze starts to pick up, Link mounts a sail, then they get carried by the breeze and drift away from Birdo.
Birdo continues on her journey. She needs to make it back to Bowser’s Castle without anyone noticing. She sneaks in the way she normally does, avoiding all of the Hammer bros. guards and spotlights. She perches herself on the great hall window where she sees Kamek stirring a big cauldron. The koopalings are watching Kamek intensely.
“Hey Birdo!” Bowser Jr. shouts. “Where’ve you been?”
“Looking at the flood that happened between here and the Mushroom Kingdom,” Birdo answers.
“Well look at this instead,” Larry, one of the koopalings chirps.
           “What are you guys doing?”
“Ludwig and Kamek perfecting a potion to bring Bowser back! Hopefully to finish Mario this one last time,” Bowser Jr. explains.
Kamek and Ludwig are almost done with the potion. He winds up the wand and blasts a magic spell into the bubbling cauldron. The potion starts to change color from a light green to a dark red. It is clear that the potion has turned to lava. The koopalings cheer as this transformation is happening. Kamek can see Birdo’s face beginning to worry. Suddenly, a tender claw reaches out and grabs the edge of the cauldron.

One of the coolest parts about Super Mario 64 is the vast amount of stages it has. There truly is not a single dull point in the game when it comes to this aspect, as each one has an abundance of fun stars to obtain. It is a significant reason as to why this game is one that many people label as iconic. Each of them offers unique characteristics about them that truly make them all so memorable.
RELATED: Mario Super Sluggers: The 10 Best Players To Pick
However, out of the 15 stages, there are some that just stand out the most. Perhaps this is due to the specific stars they have, or it also could be from the scenery that they have. No matter what the case is, they are the ones that people talk about the most at the end of the day. It is hard to find a stage in this game that is bad, however, as they also provide entertainment in their own ways.
10 Wet-Dry World
Tumblr media
Wet-Dry World is a very unique level in the game because, as its name implies, it switches from being a wet and dry stage. It is also intriguing because Mario has control over how much water the level starts with, depending on where he jumps.
The stars in this level offer a decent challenge too, which makes sense when seeing as how it is later in the game. Overall, it offers up a lot of fun to the player, while also being equally as frustrating with its difficulty.
9 Hazy Maze Cave
Tumblr media
Hazy Maze Cave is such a cool level as it is massive and offers a ton of tasks for the player to complete. It has a lot of secret areas, which can be challenging to find for those who are new to the game. Mario even unlocks the metal cap in this level, too.
It has a frightening vibe to it too, as evidenced by the foes Mario faces in it. It certainly is a level that one could label as underrated too, as it does not receive as much praise as the iconic ones. Even with this being so, it is still splendid.
8 Whomp's Fortress
Tumblr media
Whomp's Fortress is one of the first levels in the game, so it is not the most challenging of ones. However, that does not make it bad whatsoever as it does have some of the most memorable stars from the game.
RELATED: Bowser’s Fury: 10 Features That Could Shape Mario Games Going Forward
In terms of its overall scenery, it definitely is quite nice as it offers a little bit of everything to the player. With piranha plants, Whomps, and even an owl, it is clear it offers a lot of unique elements that fans do appreciate.
7 Tall, Tall Mountain
Tumblr media
Tall, Tall Mountain is a very large level in the game, which is easy to understand when looking at its name. It does offer a lot of challenges in the process as there are an array of different foes and dangerous ledges that are easy to fall off of.
The stars in this level are also very cool as each of them is quite entertaining to secure. With enemy monkeys, a hidden slide, and giant mushrooms, it is clearly quite wacky as well.
6 Shifting Sand Land
Tumblr media
Shifting Sand Land definitely has a nice aesthetic to it, which makes it very fun. The quicksand in this level also makes it quite easy for Mario to lose all his power, which definitely is frustrating. However, this element is what makes it such a memorable level.
The stars in this level are also very fun to obtain, which definitely helps its overall value. The pyramid also is a very fun aspect of it too, as it offers one of the most interesting boss fights in the entire game.
5 Rainbow Ride
Tumblr media
Rainbow Ride is very well the hardest level in the game, as every star possesses a huge challenge to get. That is definitely justifiable and honestly expected as it is the final level in the game.
RELATED: Bowser's Fury: 10 Features It Borrows From Breath of The Wild
Although it does not warrant the title of being the best, it definitely is still spectacular. The scenery in this level is quite nice and there is just so much going on with it. It is a level that warrants all the praise in the world at the end of the day.
4 Lethal Lava Land
Tumblr media
Lethal Lava Land is iconic in every way imaginable. For starters, every time Mario falls into the lava, he hilariously jumps into the air and the player loses control of him. Also, just the complete turmoil of its look is so fitting.
The bullies in this level also are a very nice touch and provide some entertaining stars. However, inside of the volcano is definitely the coolest part of the level as those stars even can be challenging to masters of the game.
3 Big Boo's Haunt
Tumblr media
Just finding Big Boo's Haunt is entertaining as it requires Mario to successfully attack Boo in the garden. Once inside the level though, it is clear that this is one of the most unique and deepest levels of the game.
It has a carnival, a plethora of ghosts, and a bunch of scary rooms to explore. Also, fighting Big Boo on the balcony is truly marvelous and requires a lot of skill when it comes to controlling Mario.
2 Cool, Cool Mountain
Tumblr media
Cool, Cool Mountain is one of the best levels in this game because of its fantastic stars and overall appeal. The race with the giant penguin is definitely a huge reason for its success, but one also cannot ignore just how well made it is.
It absolutely is a winter wonderland, but it sure does come with some monstrous challenges along the way. It is easily one of the first levels people remember from this game because of how well it makes it special.
1 Bob-omb Battlefield
Tumblr media
Bob-omb Battlefield is easily the best level in the game. It is not the hardest, but it holds the most value because of how memorable it is. It is where Mario's journey begins and that very well may be why these stars are all so memorable.
Mario fights King Bob-omb, races Koopa the Quick, and has to battle with Chain Chomp. This alone helps make this level be so spectacular, but one also cannot ignore its legendary music too. Overall, it does everything right, especially for a first level.

Odds {Luigi X Daisy fic, Part 1 cause Tumbrl's a bitch and won't let me publish the whole thing}
Being the Mario Bros has its ups and downs, but most of the time the two brothers didn't really mind the downs that much because saving the kingdom was something they had grown used to it. And as part of their daily routine, Peach had been kidnapped. Again.
But Mario seemed to be tired of the constant run through six or eight different worlds to face Bowser in his massive castle in the Koopa Kingdom so instead of the regular way, he drugged Luigi in a secret passage through the Mushroom Valley which lead them both, quite quickly, in a small castle where Bowser supposedly hid Peach but both Mario and Luigi knew better than this.
With finally defeating a fake Bowser, which turned out to be just a Goomba transformed into his leader, they rushed at the very back side of the castle, hoping to get Peach before Bowser could run away with her.
When they finally arrived at a bright room, they saw Peach on Bowser's flying unit, smiling at them. They rushed to sigh in relief but just then, Bowser shoved Peach back and flew away, laughing menacingly.
"That's ridiculous!" Mario exclaimed, frustrating building upon "Why he has to make everything so over dramatic?"
"Because it's well known that Bowser it's not the Koopa's king. He's just a drama queen" Luigi commented, making Mario chuckle.
"Come on bro, we got a princess to save"
"Right behind you"
Little did they know that their adventure this time wasn't just going to be different as it comes to traveling.
Mario and Luigi quickly abandoned Bowser's temporary hide out and rushed to find the next pipe, which would lead them to own of King Boo's territories, much to Luigi's dismay. Maybe the King of Ghosts wasn't going to be present but just his troops were enough to terrify Luigi. Before he had the opportunity to let this sink, an out of breath Toad came to stop them before they jumped into a grey pipe.
"Guys...  Trouble... Daisy.." Toad breathed, trying to form proper sentences to no avail. Mario unmounted the pipe he was ready to jump in and rushed to Toad's side.
"Take a breath buddy" he said, patting his shoulder "What's the matter with Daisy?"
"She's... Been kidnapped!" Toad finally managed to choke out, leaving the Mario Bros stoned in shock, especially Luigi. He felt the color drying away from his face and his hands shaking. Who in the name of Sarasaland had dared to touch her out of all people? The real question was how they had even managed to do so; Daisy wasn't the own who would just sit around and let herself get kidnapped. Last time Bowser had tried to kidnapped her, he had preety much got launched into orbit.
"Who?" Luigi only managed to blurt out
"Bowser!" Toad responded, nodding
"Bowser? Are you sure?"
"As sure as princess Peach is the ruler of this kingdom" Toad insisted fiercely
"But... How? Last time I checked, he kept himself at least ten metres away from her so as not to meet Rosalina near the moon again" Mario asked, completely buffled
"She found a new way to get to Peach faster, at least that's what she said but got lost so Bowser jumped in the opportunity" Toad explained as briefly as possible
"And how do you know this?" Mario inquiried, raising a brow
"She sent a message. She's trapped in a course named Remix 10 or something like that..." Toad said, looking a little bit confused
"Remix 10... Mamma Mia! She jumbed into the wrong pipe!" Mario exclaimed, slapping his forehead
"Wrong pipe? What do you mean, bro?" Luigi asked
"Remix 10 is a course of small races of different locations. If your get lost in there, it's a little bit difficult to get out of it. I've discovered it along with those pipes" Mario explained, motioning at the grey pipe behind them "Daisy thought she followed the way we got to come here but she got it wrong... And now she's in trouble"
"The thing is... What are you guys going to do now?" Toad piped up "I mean, Bowser has two princesses in two different locations. It's going to take you a very long time to save both"
"You got a point" Mario admitted, striking his moustache "We need to find a way to get to one of them faster..."
"Or we could just split up"
Mario and Toad both snapped at Luigi's direction, not sure if this was actually told by the younger Mario Bro. Luigi wasn't quite famous for his bravery or utter independence from his brother (except in a couple of occasions) and it was strange of him to suggest something that would separate him from Mario.
"We'll win so much time" Luigi continued, seeing their buffled expressions
"Luigi, are you sure you want to go off alone?" Mario asked concerned "Remix 10 is quite the course..."
"I'm capable of traveling on my own, thank you very much" Luigi interrupted, slightly annoyed. Without a doubt, he was the coward of the family but that didn't mean he couldn't take initiatives every now and then!
"I didn't say that" Mario argued "It's just that there are so many levels there, including several haunted mansions there. Are you sure...?"
"I've handled bigger mansions than this to save your ass, remember?" Luigi pointed "I'm going to be just fine! I mean, what's the wrong thing can happen?"
"There are a lot of things that can happen. For instance, you could get lost"
"My orientation abilities are ten times better than Daisy's!" Luigi exclaimed, feeling his blood boiling in his veins. Did Mario think he was still a baby? He may not be as brave as him but he could do something more or less! However, when he realized what he had just said, he brought his hands on his lips, looking down on his feet.
"Don't tell her I said that" he mumbled akwardly.
Mario couldn't help but chuckle. He walked over his little brother and patted his shoulder.
"Don't worry I won't" he smiled "And if splitting up is what you want, then let it be. Just... Be careful, alright?"
Luigi nodded "You too, Mario"
Mario grinned at him, walked over the grey pipe and climbed on it. Before he jumped in, he turned his head to look over Luigi and Toad.
"Remember, to enter the Remix 10 course, just find a yellow pipe in the palace's garden. Once you get in, there's not going back until the next castle"
"Got you" Luigi nodded "I'll see you soon Mario"
"See you around Luigi"

SWITCH THOUGHTS PLS
Haha wow this wound up being pretty long. If anyone who reads all this shit finds something they disagree with by all means, tell me. My opinions aren’t facts, I like hearing other viewpoints.
Well, the launch line up sucks complete ass, but that’s to be expected. I mean when the fuck was the last time something had a GOOD launch lineup? The Dreamcast?  I’ll go over what I think of all the games so far, firstly:
What
the FUCK
is 1, 2, Switch?
Nintendo actually gets everyone’s attention. Positive buzz, for once. And THIS is what they show? And it’s not even a goddamn INCLUDED GAME? It’s not even a GAME! Who the fuck is this for? Even if you look at if from a “I’m a hot young millennial who doesn’t enjoy video games, AKA Nintendo’s current target demographic” perspective, why the FUCK would you spend 350 united states dollarydoos to buy a Switch and this game when you can probably just download all the shit “games” on your phone for free?? What kind of goddamn “selling point” is “you don’t even need to look at the screen :DDD” why WOULD I BUY THAT WHY WOULD ANYONE BUY IT, IT SCREAMS “FREE TECH DEMO WITH THE GAME ALA WII SPORTS” WHY
I keep hearing that Ultra Street Fighter 2 is 40 bucks which is way too much fucking money for Street Fighter 2 with two palette swap characters with a few new moves but hey it’ll almost certainly be better than SFV so there’s that
Fire Emblem Warriors is going to be a goddamn Awakening/Fates fest, including some people from Marth’s game, Roy, Ike, and like, Sigurd or something so they can pretend they give a shit about people who’ve stuck with the franchise. They got fucking weird with some of the Hyrule Warriors picks (I don’t think a single fucking person saw bug girl coming) so maybe I’ll be wrong. Please let me be wrong. Fire Emblem really lends itself to be a musou title please don’t fuck it up PLEASE
Super Mario Odyssey looks good and I’m legitimately excited for it, New Donk City looks fucking WEIRD, seeing “real” humans but I feel like they were going for that? Sandbox Mario games are a safe bet on being great, I ain’t worried. Also Bowser looks fucking great. I like this Bowser.
Splatoon 2 looks like more of what Splatoon was, which is a great thing. The Splat Dualie looks really fun to use even though I’m probably just gonna stick with the roller like the scrub that I am. More customization is great but I might just stick with the twintails, hairwise. I WANNA KNOW WHAT’S UP WITH PUNISHED MARIE THOUGH WHERE IS CALLIE WHERE THE FUCK IS SHE NINTENDO WHAT DID YOU DO WITH MY SQUID WIFE IF YOU HURT HER I SWEAR TO FUCKING GOD I-
Shin Megami Tensei: We Showed a Giant, Uncensored Green Cock on a Nintendo Livestream: I don’t like getting hype over games with no gameplay shown, so I’m trying to keep my expecations in check for this mystery SMT game. ANYONE REMEMBER THE LAST TIME NINTENDO TEASED A MYSTERY SMT GAME :DDDDDD REMEMBER WHAT HAPPENED WITH THAT :DDDDDDD HAHAHAHAHAHAHA (this new SMT will probably be fine though, I’m totally hype even if I don’t wanna be)
who gives a motherfuck about unmodded skyrim in the year 2017, it’s cool bethesda is supporting nintendo consoles though i guess
Mario Kart 8: Haha You Actually Bought a Wii U Edition has King Boo and that’s literally all I needed but they even added Inklings and a whole fucking Splatoon track so I want it even more now. ALSO IT HAS BATTLE MODE NOW WHICH IS GOOD. (Dry Bones is also cool)
Breath of the Wild: EYEBROWS/10, FISH/10. GERUDO/10, WAIFUS/10, also the game looks like it’s going to be good or something BUT GOING BACK TO ZELDA’S EYEBROWS I REALLY LIKE THEM also it looks like Link is fighting someone from the sheikah tribe at one point the FUCK is up with that WAIFUS ARE GREAT BUT I’M ALSO A LORE SLUT GIVE ME THE DEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEETS
Super Bomberman R: Konami makes video games? What? Excuse me? Are they finally letting the Bomberman devs out of the Punishment Chamber? Apparently Konami and Nintendo worked together to make it happen. HEY IF YOU GUYS ARE WORKING TOGETHER PUT HIM IN THAT SMASH PORT THAT RUMORED TO HAPPEN BOMBERMAN IS A GOOD BOY HE DESERVES IT
Puyo Puyo Tetris: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH CHRIST YES YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS GIVE IT TO ME NOW SEGA HOLY FUCK I ALREADY PREORDERED IT ENGLISH PUYO PUYO TETRIS
ARMS: Looks like fun, honestly. It seems well thought out, aside from it’s shit logo. Seems like a day one buy to me. Especially since motion controls are optional.
Snipperclips: Looks cute. I doubt it’s a full price game. I’ll pick it up for sure if it’s not, it looks like something Grandmiku might enjoy!
Xenoblade 2: Hello, God? It’s me, Miku. Please tell me that Xenoblade 2 having a PEGI rating and not an ESRB rating means NoE is handling the localization and not the Treehouse, I’d like the game to you know, actually resemble the original a bit and not be full of EPIC OUTDATED MEEMS XDD
OTHER SWITCH THOUGHTS:
Paid online can suck a dick but I’m used to it now I guess. Loaning you a NES/SNES rom a month is a motherfucking joke though, that’s just insulting. Come the fuck on, MICROSOFT gives games out, you can give out a a twenty+ year old game for free each month you greedy assholes
Hurry the fuck up and announce Pokemon Stars so people actually buy a Switch
Whats the Senran Kagura guy gonna do with the new rumble feature in the Joy Cons
No Region Locking THANK FUCKING GOD, now if I want some obscure titty game on the Switch it might get an Asian English localization or some shit
Where’s Smash Switch
WHERE’S THE LAST THREE SMASH AMIIBO IT’S NOT REALLY SWITCH RELATED BUT STILL REEEEEEEE

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe players won't be able to take advantage of this annoying trick when the Nintendo Switch release date rolls around.
Nintendo has reportedly removed the controversial Fire Hopping technique from the upcoming Switch title, according to GameXplain (via Eurogamer).
Fire Hopping is a technique in which players can gain a speed boost by skidding and boosting on straight sections of race circuits.
Players were able to utilise the technique in 50cc, 100cc and 150cc races in Mario Kart 8 on Wii U.
Nintendo got rid of it in 200cc mode, but didn't remove it elsewhere.
But it looks like Nintendo has removed it completely from Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which makes its Switch debut on April 28.
The news comes just days after Mario Kart 8 Deluxe battery concerns were raised.

According to Game Rant, the kart-racing title is playable for around 3 hours on one charge.
It's about the same as Zelda Breath of the Wild and other more demanding Nintendo Switch releases.
“At a full charge (and with the screen brightness left at around 30%) the Nintendo Switch ran Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for exactly 3 hours, 9 minutes, and 20 seconds – providing this user with a little over three hours worth of play time,” the site confirms.
“Given the co-op capabilities of the title, which are still present and accounted for when the system is undocked, the desire to detach the Joy-Con controllers for some multiplayer shenanigans is sure to rear its head.
“The revamped Battle Mode in particular is likely to draw the attention of fans, and that could also impact the battery life once players have disconnected the Joy-Con to share the experience with others.”

Game Review: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (Switch)
While I have an ok selection of games for my WiiU I just didn’t care much for the platform overall. Whenever a major release was available for the system like Windwaker HD or Bayonetta 2, I would dust off the glossy black console and have a few hours of enjoyment, the problem is, that just rarely ever happened. Mario Kart was one of those few titles that actually got me to hook the WiiU back up to the TV and make sure the batteries in my Pro Controller were still good and ready to go. I, like many people who owned the game, purchased the pretty cheap DLC bundles that added new tracks and of course, Link, from the Legend of Zelda. I was always puzzled by the fact that they never added Zelda herself, but I digress.
When the Nintendo Switch was announced an all too brief time ago, a revamped version of Mario Kart 8 was revealed to us via the fairly enjoyable advertisement trailer that showed us the console, it features, and what we as gamers could expect to play on the console/handheld hybrid. While many of us would love a Mario Kart 9 made for a fresh new console, what we got instead was not only the best version of Mario Kart 8 but the best Mario Kart game ever produced, it’s just that damn good.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe could have been your typical “Definitive Edition” in just giving us a better-looking version of a prior game, but Nintendo went the extra mile and added quite a bit of new content, gameplay fixes and the much-requested Battle mode, while also including 48 tracks and 42 characters as well, oh, and they are all available right from the get-go.
Every bit of the DLC content that WiiU users were enjoying back then is packed in here along with new characters; Dry Bones, Bowser Jr, King Boo, the Inklings from Splatoon and Gold Mario, whom of which is one character you do need to unlock.
Apart from the new additions to the roster, you can unlock new vehicles, tires, and the glider attachments that allow your Karts to fly across the gaps in nearly all the superbly designed tracks. Each of the new characters has Kart items that are themed around them, so the Inklings, for example, have pink and green paint splattered Karts and gliders to mix and match.
One of the new additions to the game is one that is been the topic of much discussion; Smart Steering. While the feature is something I totally agree with, it’s set to default without so much of a mention. Smart Steering allows newcomers to get the feel of the game without having to worry about some of the more challenging parts of racing fast paced Karts. Hard turns will be auto-made and your Kart will bounce back to the road much faster should it look like you are going to run into a wall. At first, I wasn’t sure what the game was doing and until I went online and saw a “Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’s biggest misstep” article, I didn’t even know the feature existed. I think Smart Steering is a great feature for newer players that may struggle with racing games or even those who are disabled in some way that prevents them from enjoying games like many of us take for granted. There are several other features here like auto acceleration and turning your controllers like steering wheels for a slightly more ‘realistic’ way to drive, and while fun, it’s just not as intuitive.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has also added in stacked power-ups, having a main item ready and queued up for instant use while also having one in reserve. You’ll encounter stacked power-up blocks on the course that instantly fill your inventory with two power-ups at the ready. Nintendo has added two new items for use as well; a feather that makes your Kart bounce over projectiles and a Boo item that will steal a power-up from another racer. Another feature that is sure to get speed demons excited is the 200cc Karts that are incredibly fast and depending on your skill, rather hard to control. Completion of the whole 200cc circuit will reward you with a very ‘Golden’ surprise. The drift has also been upgraded and further drifting will grant an even bigger boost than normal.
While the Deluxe version of Mario Kart 8 doesn’t offer us any new courses to race in, the 48 offered here are packed full of shortcuts, alternative paths, and so much else to explore. There are some nice touches that while not new, still impress, like the change of coins to Rupee’s in the Legend of the Zelda course, for example. Regardless of drifting across a set of piano keys, swiftly dodging the fists of a giant lava Bowser, or driving on the side of a wall while giant stone blocks smash down upon unsuspecting racers, there are some courses that I’ve raced a dozen times and still find new ways to get ahead or out maneuver my competition.
Visually, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is gorgeous, regardless of the docked 1080p 60 frames per second or the 720p 60 frame version of its handheld play. When Breath of the Wild released for the Switch on its launch day, it was evident that the title wasn’t optimized fully for the new platform as the title suffered from frame rate issues while docked, mostly due to its running at a higher resolution. While most of those issues were patched and looked to be mostly fixed, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe runs absolutely flawless and looks and plays like a dream. One aspect of Mario Kart that makes it a cut above realistic racers like Forza or Gran Turismo, is the fact that Mario Kart will age far better than games that are bent on offering extreme realism in a market that is consistently improving its graphical fidelity.
When Mario Kart 8 launched on the WiiU back in 2014, it did so without the popular Battle mode that fans were expecting. Instead of arena’s built for the mode exclusively, gamers were meant to play the mode on the existing race tracks, courses that were designed for racing, not battling. This move made the Mario Kart community rather upset and gamers took to forums to vent their frustration and even a Change.org petition was set up. Now it is unclear if Nintendo ever noticed this, or whatever happened, but Mario Kart 8 Deluxe contains the Battle mode that fans were wanting, and even more, actually.
Battle mode returns with five new modes to play with friends, or random strangers online, with each mode offering a slight variation on the classic Battle mode formula. Balloon Battle is your standard Mario Kart fare with trying to pop the Balloon’s that are attached to other players. Bob-omb Blast is the same mode except all items are replaced with the Bob-omb explosives. Coin Runners is all about collecting coins and should you take damage, well, you’ll lose coins. Renegade Round-up is a cop’s and robber’s mode where you’ll need to snatch up other players with a piranha plant Kart or escape until time runs out. Shine Thief is a game of keep-away with a Shiney Star that you’ll need to hold onto as long as you can.
About the only mode that I didn’t think was as fleshed out as it could have been was Coin Runners. It just lacks the polish of what the other modes bring to the game. Renegade Round-up, is a frantic and fun time no matter which side of the match you are on. I really enjoyed Bob-omb Blast as you can take out a few players with a well timed shot and it can change the flow of the match drastically. I played a few rounds of Shine Thief, and while I am not terribly great at it, I plan on trying it feverishly until I manage to hold it for a solid chunk of the match.
About the only problem I really have with the game is Nintendo once again not having an idea on how to handle online multiplayer for its major franchises. There is no voice chat to chat with other players, and about the only way to communicate with anyone in-game is through the scripted “Don’t go easy on me” or “Hi!” chat bubbles above your character. The fact we have to use programs like Skype or what-have-you is awful. Another oddity is the inability to invite friends to matches, a move that makes no sense at all. If this is the sign of what to expect from Nintendo and their online service for the Switch, it makes me question about paying for it later in the year when it is no longer free.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, despite its online issues, is one of the best games for the Nintendo Switch and is an absolute must-have for this console, even if you own the WiiU version right now. The added characters, all DLC unlocked, and the new (and insane) 200cc racing mode is a blast. The Battle mode alone makes this a justified purchase as it adds something that was painfully missing from the WiiU release. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is damn near perfect and frankly, stop reading this and go buy it now.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was played and reviewed on a retail copy for the Nintendo Switch. All screenshots were taken on the Nintendo Switch console and uploaded to Twitter.

P.S. Try each character’s moves. And if you don’t get to try all the moves in one game, start a new one.
Blocking
When in battle, just before the opponent hits u press A
Three Keys To Tutankoopa
After you’ve gotten all three stones you are ready to use them. Go to where are 5 statues of chomps. First go to the first slot and put the pyramid stone in it. Put the diamond stone in the middle slot. Put the lunar stone in the last slot. The floor will rumble and break. Go down the stairs where you will find Tutankoopa.
Dizzy Spin Trick
The first time you go to the Badge Shop in Toad Town, there is a badge that makes you spindash faster. Put the badge on. When you get to Enemies, press Z, hit the enemy and it will make it dizzy for one full turn, so you get extra time to attack. This will not work on flying enemies.
Shyguy`s Toybox
In toad town there is a house with nothing in it. Well, geuss again! Use Bow`s down C and a shy guy will come in. The shy guy will go through a secret door. Now go through the secret door and jump on the spring. Now you will be in Shyguy`s Toybox! Good luck!
Weird Toad
Go to Koopa Village and enter the house with the palm trees on top of it. Press “A” on the radio until you get to a station that says something about a eccentric toad near the entrance of Toad Town. Get a Koopa leaf (from one of the bushes nearby) and take it to the entrance of Toad Town. A toad will look different from the others (trust me you’ll notice him). Talk to him and he will give you something special!
Chet Rippo And Rip Cheato
These are two characters that you run into during your travels. If their names don’t tell you enough about them, I will. Chet Rippo is in South Toad Town somewhere. He offers to upgrade your HP, FP, or BP for 39 coins. He will upgrade whatever one you choose to the equivilent of two level ups. What he doesn’t tell you is that he takes away one upgrade from your other stats (ex. BP goes up by six, but HP and FP both go down by 5). Only use him to rearrange your stats. Rip Cheato sells items. Who would really buy stuff from someone with both “rip” and “cheat” in their name?!? Anyway, he charges 64 coins for an item you don’t know. I believe that there is a chance you may get a starpiece from him, I’m not sure. An example of an item is a life shroom. It’s a great item, but can be purchased in Shiver City (the snowy town) for about half the price that Rip sells it to you.
The Hidden Star Piece
Go to Shy Guy toy box. Go in front of the blue toad, then use the hammer a piece of the floor will pop up, and you will get a star piece.
Get Better Items With The 1 Cent Mystery!
Get better Items with the 1 cent Mystery!:If you have Tayce T. cook with a Mystery item, you’ll get one of these several things:Apple Pie, Big Cookie, Bland Meal, Egg Missile, Fire Flower, Fried Egg, Fried Shroom, Honey Shroom, Kooky Cookie, Koopa Tea, Life Shroom, Potato Salad, Sleepy Sheep, Spagetti, Special Shake, Spicy Soup, Super Soda, Tasty Tonic, Thunder Rage, Volt Shroom. Since you can buy mysteries for 1 coin at Boo’s Mansion, this is a cheap way to get some good items. Watch out though, because sometimes you’ll get a mistake.
Answers To Bowser’s Questions
The answers are 3, Red, Red, 24 in that order.
Be The Original Mario
Enter Bow’s Mansion and go through the first-floor, right-hand door. In that room there should be a large vase and a chair next to it in the center of the room. Jump on to the chair and then into the vase. You will popout as the original NES version of Mario! (Exiting this room or rentering the vase will return you to your original state, though).
Read Luigi’s Diary
Read Luigi’s Diary:You have to have the Second boots (forget what they’re called) and you stomp in the part of the floor, in Mario’s bedroom, that sticks up. Luigi has built a secret basement! What a carpenter! In the basement, you can read his diary which changes throughout the game.
Find Dry, Dry, Ruins
Go to the oasis in Dry, Dry, Desert. Get a lemon and give it to Seek, or whatever, he’ll tell you to go to the market in Dry, Dry, Outpost and buy a dried scroon, then the dusty hammer in that order. The onwer will tell you how to find to the guy who knows where the ruins are. Go to the door Seek was standing infront of and go out the side door. Jump on the crates onto roof and go left. You’ll find a door. Seek is in there, but HE’S really the guy you’re looking for. He’ll give you a pulse stone. Then go to the desert. A cloud showing the stone will flash. The near you get to the area where Dry, Dry, Ruins is, the faster the stone flashes. When it is flashing rapidly, go up to a stone with a hole in it. Put the stone in it, and BAM! The ruins pop out of the ground!
Infinite Hearts
Find the split on Pleasant Path where one direction leads to the Koopa Bros. Fortress and the other leads to Koopa Village. Keep running around the striped pole next to the sign to get hearts.
Infinite Items from Trees
Once you have received a hammer, use it to hit trees. The tree by where you begin gives you an endless supply of acorns that revive your FP by 3. You must go somewhere else to get another acorn, though. You can also get coins, star pieces, and a weird doll as well.
Hidden Oasis
First when your in the Dry Dry desert town, exit it and keep on going south until you see that the sand is turning into grass. You’ll finally find the secret oasis. The oasis contains lemons which are very help-full. The oasis also contains a special power up that allowes your team mate to power up and learn a new move!
Letters, Letters!
After you get Parakarry, a lot of people(?) will ask you to send letters to friends. You’ll also have to send the three that you picked up for Parakarry. You have to start by delivering the three you already have. But don’t think this is easy! You will have to travel twice to Dry Dry Outpost. (by the way, you know that vulture that stops you at the bridge? Just tell him you’re Luigi and he won’t bother you).
Battle Tactics
When you are in a battle and somebody is attacking you press A just before the guy hits you. This will keep you from getting hurt. When you are attacking push B right before you hit them. This makes the hit hurt a lot more. When using the hammer push the joystick to the left until the last light lights up. Immediately let the joystick go to the center. This will also make the hit hurt a lot more.
Lots of Special Power Ups
First you must go to Mt. Rugged. The path is pretty straight forward until the path branches up or down. Go down. You will eventually come across a blue thing that pops out of the ground. Hit it with your hammer (he/she is not an enemy) and it’s bump will fall off. Pick it up, as it can recover 25HP & 25FP.! Now keep re-entering the screen and it will reappear. It does eventually run out though.
Beat Tutankoopa
Buy 9 thounderbolts and use them all on Tunankoopa. Then use Parakarry’s Shell Shot.
Free Hearts
Ok First I was walking down a path a I saw these three blue things, one looking at me so I went up to it an ran around it and the invincible music played and then hearts came out!!!!!!Directions to get there: go right from toad town until you reach the path where you can go down dirt steps, or across the bridge and the blue tall things are in the back. The one on th left has no eyes or there following you. Run around him and you no what happens. (I think I was the first person to find this because I got it the day it came out and I found this the next day!)
Classic Mario Music
Go to the third house in Koopa Village (a Koopa is sunning himself inside). Stand in front of the radio and press A to switch between stations. Listen to the Golden Oldies station to hear classic Mario theme music.
Hidden Playroom
Go south in Toad Town until you get to the area with the Li’l Oink Farm. Go left immediately after you enter this area (there is a narrow passageway that’s not fenced off). Hit the tree with your hammer and a pipe will appear on the right. You can now enter the playroom, but need either a Silver and/or Gold card to play the games.
Special Spells
Go to the alley right next to Toad’s house in Dry Dry Outpost. Jump forward over the left box and the camera will swing around to reveal a hidden area. Talk to Merlee to learn about her special spells. Depending on how much money you spend, she will help you during and after battles. The spells do wear off after a certain amount of time, but until then, it provides you with additional attack power during some battles and more coins after battles.
Cheats
Blocking
When you are in a battle and somebody is attacking you press A + B at the exactly same time the guy hits you.
