4:00am: I finish my last assignment and send it in time (the deadline was set on 8:00am), go to sleep happily
4:30am: my city gets bombarded by 22 russian rockets, 700k of people have no electricity and no water in their homes bc the infrastructure in particular was targeted, and it's not clear when it'll be fixed
It's 5:45pm now, and I have 24% on my phone
I am relieved I managed to finish my work before this shit show, but at the same time I nearly got a heart attack from the explosions and I don't fucking know what to do now??? Literally can't even wash my face properly. And it's barely 10°C outside, so...no water means no heating in my apartment means a cold night ahead
Fuck russia, wholeheartedly. Boycott those who support these fuckers

Scorbus/ Potters / Malfoys headcanons,
Scorpius develops a wonderful relationship with Ginny and he also loves the sibling teasing between James Albus and Lily even tho that's something he has never experienced being an only child
Lily adores Scorpius and is often like: " they better get married and have a couple of babies"
Ginny and Lily often practice Quidditch with Scorpius who wants to join the team one day
James can't help but tell Scorpius embarrassing stories about Albus, his favourite being when Albus is present too
One day James inadvertently hears Scorpius behind the door saying in a robot voice to Albus: " power activated, insert two batteries in my bottom, not more as it will get p-a-i-n-f-u-l"and regrets being alive.
Scorpius usually hugs Albus lower, resting his head on Albus heart
Draco and Harry develop a good relationship over time even handshaking after a family dinner
Scorpius if jealous, cries, mostly out of insecurity as Albus never does something that would suggest betrayal to the love of his life
James and Lily have more in common when it comes to social stuff but Lily also has a more introverted shy aspect that she enjoys sharing with Albus, like going for walks or playing music together
One day Lucius caught Scorpius sitting on Albus lap in a deserted room at the Manor and hurt his grandson with his behaviour. Since then Draco is extremely protective whenever grandparents visit and makes sure they call first.
James found an old The Onion newspaper page and started reading out loud " when two gays touch each other, they start to sparkle", and Scorpius started laughing
Albus loves teasingly caressing Scorpius tummy when they spoon
Albus sometimes wears glasses
Scorpius: you have your father's eyes

you know what fuck it, miles g. (prowler miles) headcanons (this will be general, maybe later i will make some x reader because im gay it sounds fun)
he would eat rice with avocado
he can make the TASTIEST FOOD IN THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD, like, you ain't gonna come tell me he wouldn't make food for his mom
in that same line of thought: his mom and him would have 'leftover days' which, as the name implies, is a day (usually a weekend day) where you eat the left over food
while e1610 miles has a bit of a more chaotic but functional work space, e42 miles would have a much more organized workspace (when not in use)
ok so rio mentions comics-con so in my heart he is still a nerd
straight As, (i like the idea that he still goes to a fancy school) he wants to not only show he deserves his place at the school, he also wants to make sure he doesn't put more stress on his mom :(
he would still go to vision academy (or whatever his equivalent is). he would have applied because his mom wanted him to have a good future, at first he wasn't really planing to go even if he managed to pass the entrance exam but when he did he was offered a scholarship so there were no more excuses not to
he is much more serious and quiet in class, he wouldn't have many friends if any at all because he wouldn't seem super approachable
not a head canon but: im not sure if he would take any art classes like e1610 miles, on one hand, his mom would encourage him to use all the tools and things the school is offering, on the other, he would probably not have enough time to do so because of his prowler things
e1610 miles: art and quantum physics e42 miles: art and robotics (or something along those lines)
this guy will NOT stand disrespect towards women. his mom is rio morales and i guarantee she would not stand his son being disrespectful
after his father died he would get in a lot of fights both because he needed a way to cope and he felt like he needed to show the world and himself that he was strong enough to protect his loved ones
i like the idea that he is either; friends with Gankee, or, they used to be friends but distanced
ok, so im not sure when exactly he would have become the prowler, but i think that at first he would have done it alone; shitty suit that doesnt really protect him and only really works to mask identity, very limited gear if any at all, probs used like blunt force weapons (baseball bat)
his uncle notices that miles had started to get bruises again and notices that rio looks more stressed so he assumes miles is picking fights again, so he confronts miles. it becomes a bit of an argument nearly fight but miles finally breaks and tells uncle Aaron he is prowler
after uncle aaron accepts that miles is the prowler and "no, i wont stop doing this, this is the way im helping" he agrees to support and help miles in his vigilante endeavors and helps him get stuff to update his suit so he can be safer
:0, he gives his mom little clay or paper flowers, since she doesnt have taht much time to take care of a live one and so she can have a little bit of color in her days
i feel like he is more of a video games nerd than a comics nerd
he sits extremely still, he almost could be mistaken for a statue
sometimes when the house feels way too empty for his comfort he goes to his uncle's to pass time till he calms or for the whole night
his sketchbooks are FILLED, like im talking not only the pages; the covers are filled with doodles, he has receipts and napkins and stuff he has drawn on, he has some pressed flowers both to use as references and to rememeber his moms favourites
his mom helps him with his hair, she learned through a combination of uncle aaron, jeffs side of the family, and of course miles

top 9 books
tagged by @rosieposiepuddingnpie - thank you and curse you, this is my least favorite/favorite thing to do!
The Starless Sea, Erin Morgenstern (a book about the love of books and story-telling, another great example of this is Cloud Cuckoo Land, by Anthony Doerr but this edges it out just a little in my all time faves. Also consider this a stand-in for Erin Morgenstern's other gem: The Night Circus.)
The Secret History, by Donna Tartt (I always waffle between the dark academia vibes of this or the snowy Amsterdam/dry Las Vegas heat of The Goldfinch - they're both absolute perfection and have gay undertones so they bounce back and forth depending on the day.)
Middlesex, by Jeffrey Eugenides (you know how people use 'sweeping tale' to describe certain books? That's this one. It just whisks you away. I know everything there is to know about the Stephanides clan and I'm a better person for it.)
The Bedlam Stacks, by Natasha Pulley (Honestly, also consider this a stand-in for every Natasha Pulley book there is. Sometimes my favorite is The Half Life of Valery K, sometimes it's The Watchmaker of Filigree Street series, sometimes it's The Kingdoms; it's really whose yearning I'm vibing with the most that day: Valery and Shenkov? Thaniel and Mori? Merrick and Raphael? Joe and Kite? It varies.)
The Stand, by Stephen King (I also really want to put Holly in that spot, I just finished it and I haven't loved a Stephen King book like that since The Stand - the only reason I didn't is because Holly is, at least for now, the last book in a series that is a spin-off of a series and every other book in those series don't hit the level of Holly, at all.)
Anxious People, by Fredrik Backman (this can also act as a stand-in for A Man Called Ove as well since I love them both for the exact same reason - they believe in the best in people. They make you feel better about humanity in general.)
The House in the Cerulean Sea, by TJ Klune (I will also point out that I have yet to read a TJ Klune book I haven't loved and that is not an insignificant amount now. This one is an older queer love story with the added bonus of found family. It's magical and heart-full and kind)
Project Hail Mary, by Andy Weir (Also a big lover of The Martian but this has something extra special for me - the alien was unique and I cared so much about every character that even glanced across the pages.)
Vera Wong's Unsolicited Advice for Murderers, by Jesse Q. Sutanto (I laughed, I loved, I goggled at Vera's incredible ability to bring people together - a more motley crew of people there is not and yet somehow Vera not only makes it work, she makes them family <3)
Special shoutout to Lessons in Chemistry, by Bonnie Garmus, I read this semi-recently (within the last year) so I don't know if my gaga-ness with it will fade or not but right now I'm like: this should absolutely be on this list, I just don't know if that's gonna hold or not. The writing is absolutely gorgeous and the plot is perfect, I just don't know if it's top ten nine perfect, y'know? Also to S.A. Cosby - Razorblade Tears is literally hanging off the end of this list by its fingernails (also read everything else by him because it's all good!).
Ongoing series - that either aren't finished or that I haven't finished so they're not cemented yet (aka Maddie cheats so she can have more spots): The Thursday Murder Club series, by Richard Osman (it's up to four books now and they are absolute perfection - it's a series that believes the best in people, even its villains, no one is allowed to be one note and you never know who it's going to pick up and keep forever), The Monk & Robot series, by Becky Chambers (it's just such a quiet, peaceful little sci-fi series that loves its characters and tea), Empire of the Vampire, by Jay Kristoff (absolutely no notes on the first book, I was stressed out and ravenous), The Infernal War Saga, by Hailey Turner (pitch perfect first two books, I'm obsessed with everyone and, like, borderline too into Honovi and Blaine??), Legends & Lattes, by Travis Baldree (this book is kind and it's found family and it's Cozy High Fantasy, like, who even knew how badly I needed that?! - a prequel is due out next month!), The Expanse series, by James S.A. Corey (okay, I know this is done but I am only through book six, though so far absolutely every one has been perfect), The Amina al-Sirafi Series, by S.A. Chakraborty (the first book is so good, which I am zero percent surprised by because I five-starred my way all the way through The Daevabad Trilogy as well!), and the Susan Ryeland series, by Anthony Horowitz (these mysteries are absolutely right up my alley - because who's investigating them? An editor of the first book's murdered author. I hope he can manage to keep these going because they are so damn good!)
tagged: @andavs, @maichan808, @callunavulgari, @midnightisquiet, @bleep0bleep, @petals42, @emeraldawn, @melowdeee, @alocalband, also anyone else who wants to do this - i love seeing people's literature tastes!!

Weird thought! The Science Group: Brainstorm and Perceptor taking over a college.
Brainstorm is thrilled to see this and Petceptor approves of the labs so they've invaded like an old abandonned science building that's meant to be torn down but instead they take and upgrade it. And the students return after the summer to find they have been invaded by aliens.
The college just adopts them as mascots and the Science Majors, as all college students get superstitious, leave tributes outside the robot lab for luck. They decorate with them.
Brainstorm is very excited to see loud science projects and constantly checking out the engineering and chemistry lab. Maybe its one of those course programs where their graduation test is to make some ridiculous racing drone or make a egg parachute or car. Just Brainstorm happily enjoying the freshman experiments
Perceptor is a lot more polite and quiet about it, observing them and qaiting for them to finish before taking their stuff. He notices them signing things out so leaves a small mark for himself when he takes them because he can't read it.
Everyone knows not to touch the blue and red microscope.
Anon idk if you knew but I am a huge Simpatico shipper so receiving this ask made my whole day 🥰
I. LOVE. This.
Percy and Brainstorm being new university mascors. Brainstorm always peering through the windows during classes because he's curious about what they're doing. He wanders around campus at seemingly random times and always waves hello to the students. He also probably does it at 3 a.m. like the gremlin he is, and at those times he stops by the 24 hour coffee shop on campus to check on the poor STEM students who are studying for their midterms and crying
The students love these 2, and the first time someone snaps a picture of them kissing it ends up on the front page of the campus newspaper with the title ALIEN ROBOTS SAID GAY RIGHTS. The next day, their lab/hab is absolutely bombarded with gifts: stuffed animals, old science equipment, boxes of chocolate, potted plants, interesting coins, anything and everything. Brainstorm gleefully sorts through all the gifts and even if he doesn't know what half of it is he atill keeps it for "his collection"
Perceptor is more shy and reclusive when it comes to the humans. He doesn't like to wander around campus as much, tho occasionally he'll join Brianstorm for a 3 a.m. stroll when the insomnia hits and they both can't sleep
ALSO Percy being so polite about using the library or borrowing things 🥺 leaving a little mark behind so they know, that's so cute. He's such a doll
And yes, everyone knows not to touch the big blue and red microscope. It's easy to remember cuz, well... he's the only 6-8-10 foot tall microscope on campus XD he's a huge ass alien robot, there's no way he compacts down into one that people could use
The art students make sculpts of them all the time. The first time Brainstorm brought Percy a mini-him sculpture they both lost their minds over how cute it was (that was probably also the thing that made them realize how absolutely adorable it would be for them to have a baby that also turns into a microscope)

tally hall sketches and other assorted doodles
Here ya go guys! I also have improvement pics from last year! Almost two years in the Tally Hall fandom! Woohoo! My Marvin's CD is gonna hate me even more after all of this
Tumblr media
A Ross sketch! I'm super proud of how it turned out! Below is a close-up!
Tumblr media
The aforementioned close-up, showing the shading on his face and the folds of his sleeve!
Tumblr media
Zubin! I love the side profile, and I used his picture in the MMMM booklet as a reference! Close up below, so you can see some of the more fine details/shading
Tumblr media
the close-up!
Tumblr media
Here's Andrew! His hair is kinda hard to not fluff-ify, but I dealt with it anyways and tried my best to keep it close to reality. Obligatory close(r)-up below.
Tumblr media
next will be some other random stuff, mostly tally hall, but some of it is oc art
Tumblr media
drew this drawing of Ross last September. Not amazing but very stylized, which I love/hate. the tag on the bottom left reads, "he's rather disheveled but this is the best I could do back then"
Tumblr media
wtf is he doing? He in an action movie or something? btw this was last-year's andrew. very stylized. i hate it.
Tumblr media
decided not to include the other last-year Rob cause i hate it deeply. this one's much better. very fluffy. i dont like the collar tho
Tumblr media
just me poking fun at my horrendous attempts at stylizing joe. im not gonna draw him as much as the others btw.
Tumblr media
This is from an au created by @bonkdd, but i did rob and andrew's designs bc i never saw his designs for them. i also added a lot of lore and plot stuff because i really liked the concept. in simple terms the tallies are robots that were abandoned by Marvin after he passed away so now they're falling apart n stuff without him to care for them (that's why rob hides his face). Anyways, huge thanks to Bonk for the original idea! They're a great artist, you should go check them out!
Tumblr media
Edith, drawn/sketched with a ballpoint pen.
Tumblr media
Another one. I like this one better, but I spent two days on this one versus a half on hour on the other so i guess it makes sense
Tumblr media
Adrian and Reuben (OCs), done in a college-ruled notebook bc i ran out of pages in my sketchbook. next is a close-up so you can see more shading.
Tumblr media
probably my favorite gay couple i've ever written ngl
Tumblr media
Ace again, but wearing Reuben's favorite sweater.
Tumblr media
Looking mighty fine!
Tumblr media
He's lookin' tough, he's got the stuff, he's got the spiffy shades... (/lyric)
Tumblr media
pose practice
Tumblr media
Boll weevil, why don't you get out of your home? (/lyric)
Tumblr media
old art jumpscare - i actually kinda like this one, might redraw it. Below is the full thing
Tumblr media
why is zubes staring like that??? its creepy
Tumblr media
here's another. i don't know why it's sideways. andrew is scared of joe btw, this isn't the entire drawing
Tumblr media
Did an embossing peice. It's the Mojo Chessmaster! I tried by best to make it as detailed as possible, and I think I did pretty alright. The neck was probably the worst part to do. Below are close-ups
Tumblr media
the head of the guitar was a pain in the ass.
Tumblr media
This part was also pretty tricky but it came out okay. the dials at the bottom are raised as much as I could get them to go, so I'm not worried about them. My issue here was the pickups.
Tumblr media
I also added Flansburgh's little signature guy but i drew his hair because why not? Anyways this piece took me a good hour or so to finish, I think it'll fetch a good grade (it was for my metal design class).
I'll add a sketch I just did as a bonus:
Tumblr media
it's from a tally hall fanfic/au i made back in may after my grandpa passed away. It was a great stress-reliever and I still really like how it turned out. It's about cryptids and monsters and shit. I'll post a summary on a different post because this one was mostly for the drawings. I might post a few installments of it on my ao3. It could be a weekly thing since i usually have time on fridays to write.
Once again, a close-up is available below.
Tumblr media
I put literal hours of research on cryptids and of the area (ann harbor, MI) while writing this fic. It was fun though, and it helped me a lot. Feel free to ask me anything about the plot or world-building !

Recently read through the various drafts of the as-yet-unproduced Sgt. Rock adaptation. Since the movie’s been a would-be blockbuster since the days of Arnold Schwarzenegger, it’s a pretty fascinating journey through the idea of what a blockbuster even is, as communicated through expectations over the decades. Even now, Rock is still supposedly being worked on...
The starting point, as near as I can tell, is by David Webb Peoples, the writer of Blade Runner, who wrote the first draft in 1987 (it was almost directed by Quentin Tarantino). Notable plot points include a cook being mistaken for a general, a soldier’s erotic dreams about his wife, and a squad of black soldiers who function as the Heroes of Another Story.
Throughout the 90s, other drafts wrangle the story. Manly man’s man John Milius in 1993 essentially writes a war movie that happens to have Sgt. Rock (here depicted as suffering from PTSD) in it. It’s historical fiction centering around the real-life Battle of Monte Cassino, but it still includes the above plot points. Milius also introduces a few survivors from a slaughtered Japanese-American unit; they seem to be localized to this draft.
The squad of black soldiers sometimes shrink down to a few characters who join up with Easy Company, who are also sometimes accompanied by the cook/general and sometimes by a female guerrilla fighter (who also has a cute kid sidekick). There’s sometimes one ‘super-Nazi’ villain out to personally get Rock, while sometimes the enemies are just a bunch of stormtroopers.
In 2007, the scripting starts over from scratch with a script by John Cox, albeit with many of the above plot points still making it in--I think they’re favorites of Joel Silver or some other executive behind the scenes. This script adds a metafictional angle, with a reporter trying to get the ‘real story’ behind the famed in-universe Sgt. Rock. There is, once again, a female guerrilla fighter and survivors of a black Army unit that link up with Easy Company.
However, one thing you notice very quickly is that while the 90s incarnations of the would-be movie are gritty, R-rated things... with easily a dozen characters who are killed off in droves... the 2000s version is more... PG. There are only six soldiers under Rock’s command, one of whom died tragically to motivate the rest.
The scripting has also taken a turn into ‘Weird War’ comic book stakes. The Nazis have access to radioactive super-bombers (four years before the first Captain America movie), train-mounted super-cannons, hovercrafts, and so on, while action scenes take place on speeding trains, in top-secret mountain lairs, and onboard aforementioned super-bomber.
Guy Ritchie writes the next draft in 2008, chopping the page count down and generally seeming barely literate (maybe it was a rushjob). Here, Rock is a cynical, Han Solo type who is intent on enjoying a ‘vacation week’ with his men instead of fighting. That one tragic death scene is taken out; now Easy Company consists of five soldiers from the get-go and all of them make it through the story. And a lot of queerbaiting/gay jokes are thrown in: Rock bickers like an old married couple with his 2IC, who is introduced wearing an apron. And the “soldier having wet dreams” subplot from way up in the second paragraph now features the dreaming soldier dry-humping another soldier.
It’s overall a lot more childish and PG-13 people-pleasing than before. Rock does a pratfall through a skylight and, at another point, fights a huge Nazi train conductor in a one-on-one fistfight. Basically, Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes movies, but set during WW2.
At last notice, the WW2 setting had been abandoned completely, replaced with a futuristic war. Yeah, with lasers and aliens and robots and shit. I can’t imagine why that would strike anyone as a good idea, since Sgt. Rock is *the* iconic WW2 character and who doesn’t like seeing a bunch of Nazis getting their asses kicked? Maybe they got tired of coming up with excuses for involving women and minorities in the action and decided to set it in 2050 so it could be as diverse as they wanted.

Headcanons for brian/hoodie (Tw!):
DISCLAIMER: these are for my AU, they aren’t as accurate
He had a pretty fucked up childhood, and it's a pretty sensitive topic for him:
He was forced into Christianity by his father, who was violent. One time Brian had snuck out with a friend and came home and his dad was mad at him and choked him, threw him down the basement stairs, and told him to not come back up unless he finished reading the whole Bible front to back. The basement was cold and dark and he couldn't even focus so he was down there for awhile. Another time he had ran away and his father make him read the Bible out loud and each time he even slightly messed up he'd get whipped on the back with a actual whip, and he messed up a lot, his voice was to shaky, he mispronounced words, he skipped over words, and he had to read all 1000 something pages. He was 8 when this happened.
At the age of 15 his mother died in his arms of a assumed overdose, his father then shot himself in the head in front of him that same day.
Throughout all his childhood he was abused mentally and physically
He was put into a arranged relationship with a girl who he hated because he was gay, she ended up being killed by him.
Much much more happened, now he hates Christianity and can't stand the sight of Bibles and hates talking about religion.
He was bullied in school until he snapped and beat the shit out of them
He was very quiet as a kid
He has a few physical things wrong with him from the fall:
He has a large bruise on his back that does not seem to want to disappear, and he has severe back pain from time to time.
His skull was cracked open in the fall and now suffers from severe headaches and memory issues.
He was dead long enough for his body to become cold to the touch and once he was brought back by the Slenderman that stuck with him, so he's literally almost always cold and he hates it.
His emotional and mental state are shit:
He's died and been brought back I'd say around 60 or more times, and that does something to ya, he just wants to die and be able to rest.
At one point in his life he's suffered from anorexia
At several points in his life he's dealt with self harm
He acts like he's fine all the time
He's killed himself at least once and was brought back
If he could, he'd be black out drunk 24/7
He's really tired a lot, physically and mentally
His sleep is plagued with nightmares, there hasn't been one night he hasn't had a nightmare of some sort. Some are so bad he has panic attacks over them
He's shown signs of insanity, even as a child.
Little things about him:
He can cook pretty good
Hes a heavy alcoholic
When he's in a good mood and is comfortable he's an absolute cuddle bug and it's adorable
He can be very similar to his child self at times, quiet and curious, and oddly affectionate
Hoodie is a split personality, but it isn't caused by DID/OSDD or anything like that, slender put hoodie there(if that's offensive to any systems lmk pls!)
He can't stand children sometimes, but other times he's very gentle with them and very sweet
He has mood swings a lot
He can go non verbal at times, he's not sure why
He has a obsession with snakes and cameras
He's very technologically intelligent, he can build things like robots and he's very good with coding and programming
He knows ASL and Morse code

4, 5, and/or 13?
Answered 4 over here, but will gladly tackle the rest! Thanks a bunch for the ask 💕
5) What aspect of writing have you most improved over time? How did you improve this? What are you trying to improve on now? Oh fuck, that's a lot to wrap my head around, because I've been writing for A While lol. I think in general, my project management of all my fics has improved. Thanks to a lot of spreadsheets, I have a good idea of how many words I can feasibly write per day and how long it would take me to begin and complete a particular fic idea. I've also done a lot to fine tune my editing process, which I was NOT good at in my earlier days. I could probably revisit Darkness/Starlight and shave 20k words off it easily, but hey, it's a learning process. I look at how long it took me to edit that and where I struggled… then look at What Leads You Here, which was longer and took literally a third of the time to edit. I'll take that win for sure.
What I'm trying to improve on now? Being concise. I always ramble too much in the first drafts, so I'd love to do lesss of that. However, I also feel that's just a part of my process and I know I'll edit myself during revisions, so maybe it's fine the way it is.
13) What are some must-read fanfics in your fandoms? Why do you admire these, and how have they impacted your works? If it's on my bookmarks page on AO3, I highly rec it. But here are some faves of those faves that come to mind, along with my bookmark notes for them. As for how they impacted my own works? Well, aren't we always inspired by the art that's around us? You experience something beautiful like catching lightning in a bottle and you never want to let it go, really. That's just being a creative type in a nutshell.
We Are Cinders From a Fire Burning Long Ago (Celes/Terra - Final Fantasy VI) Celes and Terra adjust to their new lives after Kefka's defeat and learn to not only live again, but come to love one another. A delicious treat of a story, equal parts witty and dark with the most well-earned happy ending I've read in some time.
In the Case of Bailey Gilande (Bailey & Royce - Transistor) A heartbreaking glimpse of Bailey's life before she left for the country.
Get On My Wave (Keitaro/Natsuno - 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim) A lovely mid-destruction missing scene, where these two have a touching moment together, complete with hurt/comfort and kissies~
lifetime in repeat (BJ/Ei - 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim) ~cries in gay~ oh my god, he's in love with the robot and it hurts so good and I love Them and- ~insert more hysterical sobbing here~
The Villain of Time (Ganondorf/Zelda - Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker) Don't mind me, I'm just lying face down in the rain and screaming forever. And by rain, I mean my tears. A fucking STUNNING take on Wind Waker and behind Ganondorf's intentions. Grab tissues - you're gonna need them.

The yearly tradition returns: 2022's Summary of Art!
And hey, I did something a little more design-y than my past ones! Will admit it was a bit tricky to fit each month's pics into the frames this time but I'm glad I tried a different look than usual
thoughts on each pic + reflection on the web + how I want to handle art going into the new year below:
January - Iri Intro!
From a somewhat short-lived thing I wanted to try out: Doing sketches of OCs just to serve as an introduction reguardless of quality. The good thing is, because quality's not a factor I can do these whenever in whatever format or polish. I just prefered doing larger pics this year
-
Febuary - A 'Cereal' Debate (comic short)
Ok, but she's got a point when you think about it.
From a comics class I took spring this year. The only prompt was "conversation"... well, heated debate in this case.
-
March - The School Mystery (comic short)
Another one from that Comics class and goddamn I think the panel featured here alone is one of the hardest things I drew that semester. That's pen and ink with minimal digital edits and damn hoping one day I could somehow make a longer comic with a similar style bc it was really fun to ink honestly.
-
April - The Fish Project
JADE WITH THE FRESH SALMON???? REAL!
Ok but for the real context, this was an April fools project I had in the works since 2021. I turned all my active art accounts at the time into an OC Fishing irony page and sent Jade, Iri, Risa, Jpeg, and both Prisma's on a fishing trip. Not sure how I'll top that in the future... I'm not revealing until April >:)
-
May - MOONROT
May was when I redesigned & revealed Io to the public! They got a bunch of art this month, but the CN challenge art is my favorite of all of them.
Huh. Suprised I didn't immediately burn out because that semester was extreme in terms of work. I guess wanting to draw Io was that strong.
-
June - Life, After Wither
A pre-Artfight 2022 pic: I was Team Wither! I like doing splash pics for my own page for Artfight and this stayed my main banner for just about most of the year.
The mini-story I made up for this is these three teamed up across dimentions or something to visit this forest.
-
July - In the Studio, fr
I don't normally do post-Artfight related pics, but Moog ended up getting the most attacks this year and I wanted to give her an extra pic based on it.
Seems she kept a souviner from the forest in the last pic.
-
August - B-Hold! The Portal King!
For Clockday on Newgrounds, Strawberry clock the portal King himself!
Kept getting swept up with other things to jump on Newgrounds events, I wasn't gonna miss one of the bigger ones!

September - //  DIRECTION //
(outside of being gay for the robot-) I just wanted to draw Alia tbh. With a similar energy she had in her older art too.
-
October - HELLSPAWN
ABSOLUTELY NEFARIOUS HALLOWEEN PIC!!!
Featuring Io's true/original form + their 'powered-up' state
-
November - The Fowl Pest (Mock-Cover)
The last two are for my Digital Illustration class. This one is a mock-book cover based on a worldbuilding project of mine (still need to organize it before sharing).
Though tbh if I do want to do more art for said project I might go tra-digital or use a grittier style. During crit I was told this looked "middle-grade"... when the world is "older-YA/Adult"... still like the pic, but damn.
-
December - Lan Party!
*Sigh* Always wanted to go to one of these! But alas, me and my irls are all busy these days. This is based off a different project I'm working on.
I ended up debuting some different designs for my OCs for said project (notably; Iri, Risa, and Human!Midi) but separate pics for them will have to come next year. In terms of digital lineart, this was the most intense I did this year (traditional lineart comes easier to me than digital).
---
So... 2022. Jesus Christ
This year was rough for me on things personal, and things non-personal. I mean jesus christ every other week something came out that was hostile to artists one way or another on top of some rough patches in my life. I don't want to jinx 2023 or leave things on this note though...
I think my biggest takeaway from this year is I need to rethink a lot of things. How I want to do art, where I want to go, or even my 'digital wellbeing'. This year, I realized keeping art a Hobby or staying "part-time" (as in small gigs & private comms only) might be healthier for me in the long run. I've already had my doubts with a lot of "professional" practices when I was shooting for it (a tl:dr it felt like "no fun allowed" half the time). But realizing how horribly i've treated myself and my art with this chase? That was another thing.
I think i've done a lot of strong pics compared to past years. Especially in terms of backgrounds and not being afraid to draw them (though I could always use more practice, lol). But I've also come to terms with I've been affected by social media without realizing it and how it hurt how I do art. Basically, for the past two years I've been working under the fear of being boxed into doing one thing. Be it fanart, genres, etc. To the point I stopped doing things to force a "brand". Specifically, I stopped doing fanart unless it's oc-centric. I hid straight-up fanart, and started getting irrationally upset over the metrics fanart gets over my original works.
And I hate it. I hate how I let myself judge the value of my work over "numbers and engagement". I hate how I boxed myself in trying to avoid being boxed, because of chasing this corporate measurement of worth. And most importantly, I hate that I nearly forgot that I enjoyed making fanart, because of some dumb culture caused by social media numbers and algorithms. I'm exhausted. So for 2023, I think I want my main resolution to do better with my online life & how I treat myself and my art. I want to pull away from social media a bit more (ironic considered i just came back here heh), spend more time on the slower web & offline if possible, and break that cycle of letting numbers judge my self-worth. And maybe help others do the same. It's much easier said than done, but I don't want to do nothing about this toxic hellscape that is how art is treated online, I want to do something even if the only person I directly help is myself.
And for what it's worth, focusing on my site so far has been cathartic. It's somewhere I can set up my art, projects, weird shit, etc. on my own terms, how I like it. It's quieter over there. And I'm glad I kept working on it beyond just a "portfolio site".
But I guess I have all of 2023 (and what's left of 2022) to process that. For now, I could use some extra time to pretty-up my website some more and take a few more naps before the year ends.

BOOKS I READ IN TWENTY-TWENTY: 2 (2022)
The Princess Bride – William Goldman
Do I need to summarise this one? “As you wish”, “Inconceivable”, “Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya,” and so forth. It’s the Princess Bride!
The main difference between the book and the movie is the framing device: in the movie it’s a kid being read the book while he’s sick in bed.
In the book, there’s a whole establishing story about a kid (a fictionalised version of William Goldman) being read The Princess Bride by his dad when he’s sick in bed, and then years later he finds a copy for his son, who tries to read it and hates it, and then when Goldman actually reads it himself he discovers his dad skipped all the boring parts – so now he’s releasing his Abridged Version.
It’s fun, it’s the Princess Bride but with asides saying “okay I cut 50 pages of learning courtly decorum here, we’re cutting ahead to:”. I’ve grown to loathe books about writers (blame Misery – which, fun fact, Goldman wrote the screenplay for) but books about reading a book? Top notch.
Also at the end (in this, 25th anniversary edition) there’s a bit where he discusses and “abridges the first chapter of the sequel” (Buttercup’s Baby), which in passing implies that Westley had gay pirate sex while he was at sea, so.
Lava Red Feather Blue – Molly Ringle
In 1799 the prince of a magical island somewhere in the Pacific was put into an enchanted sleep as part of a peace treaty with the fae – so long as he remained asleep, so would the evil fairy who’s been terrorising the human population.
In 2020 a guy accidentally awakens the prince, and so of course, uh-oh, the evil fairy is terrorising the human population again.
That’s right, it’s sleeping beauty, but gay.
It’s alright.
My main sticking point is: the evil fairy has a point. She’s explicitly noted by the narrative as a kind of manifestation of the fairies’ anger at the humans colonising their land – the humans are European colonisers and the fairies are native Pacific Islanders, it is not subtle – and towards the end I thought “oh, are they actually going to talk to her?” but no, she’s just capital-e Evil and nothing meaningfully changes, they just seal her away again.
The setting feels at odds with itself. It’s a fairy island magically hidden from the rest of the world, but it’s also modern day with all the appropriate technology. Internet, smartphones, iPads, etc. Where do you get them? I don’t think it being magically hidden from the rest of the world is narratively necessary, aside from “explaining” why fairies are around in the modern day? To make the Native Pacific Islander thing less awkward because it’s a fictional island? It feels weird.
The guys are cute enough, the Prince struggling to handle being viewed as a Historical Figure is nice (but could have gotten into it more… he never really talks to the current royal family, or even his fairy brother-in-law), and the fairies working on etiquette, equal exchange, rules is nice.
Yeah, it’s okay.
Piranesi – Susanna Clarke
The world is a series of vast stone hallways and atriums filled with statues. The tides wash through the lower floors. Piranesi lives here, journaling about his life, cataloguing the statues, occasionally meeting with the one other (living) person who exists.
Trying to think of something to say about this book beyond “it’s good”.
The style of writing is very nice – simple, poetic – and I really enjoy the dramatic irony as it becomes apparent to the reader that all is not as it seems, before it becomes apparent to Piranesi.
It is very good, strong recommend.
Heaven’s Vault: I. The Loop – Jon Ingold
Hey did you play the videogame Heaven’s Vault? About sailing around space rivers and translating an ancient language?
It’s books now.
It is much less about translating things and much more about The Story – naturally! There's a lot more about Aliya (the protagonist)'s past. Flashbacks to her childhood/adolescence and more stuff about her previous robots.
It's good! It's a compelling world and story, in my opinion, but playing the game I was much more focussed on the Translating and definitely missed a lot of storyline.
It's a very different experience, but a good one.
One Hundred Years of Solitude – Gabriel Garcia Marquéz
Ah, this took me a while. In my defence I got a job and so I was sleepier than usual.
Also I didn't make many notes so I'm relying on my memory here, and I've forgotten a lot, uh-oh.
It's a long meandering story about a family who keep naming their children the same thing over generations so it's a touch, confusing sometimes, but it's nice. I just kind of let it wash over me.
Any Way The Wind Blows – Rainbow Rowell
It’s the third book in the Simon Snow trilogy (I guess that’s what we’re calling it – I’ve talked about Carry On a bunch, Wayward Son was fine)
It's better than the second book, it's not as good as the first.
The Simon and Baz stuff is great – learning to navigate their relationship now that they aren't in life and death situations all the time, investigating a guy claiming to be the new magical chosen one, love all that. Penelope and Agatha are, also there? Their storylines are fine, but they also don't really feel connected at all – Agatha literally like, happens to bump into Simon in passing one time, and that's about as much as their plotlines intersect.
There's some good jokes about how tiny magic society is, and I'm going to be thinking about the spell These Go To Eleven for a while (it makes the music louder!)
I enjoyed it but I wouldn't really say you need to read the rest of the trilogy after Carry On, frankly.
Heaven’s Vault: II. The Vault – Jon Ingold
It's two books.
This one has a significant amount of plot that I had to look up was actually in the game – we missed a lot of stuff it turns out! Whoops!
But then also, while playing the game, I was happy with a lot of stuff being implied vague background stuff, which is more explicit here? Because it's a book, not a puzzle game.
See above, more of the same. It's pretty good in my opinion. Probably don't need to have played the game to enjoy the books.
Peter Darling – Austin Chant
Captain Hook / trans Peter Pan enemies to lovers.
Peter returned to London, because he missed his brothers – he spent years trying to live as Wendy, but ultimately couldn't do it – Tinkerbell brings him back to Neverland so he can be himself.
The prologue is Hook, bored out of his mind, finally feeling alive again once Pan returns and almost kills him. A very strong opening, in my opinion.
Neverland is essentially an imagination space – none of the other people there (the lost boys, the pirates) are actually real, having been created by or for Pan and Hook to support their stories – but it's also kind of a trap, Neverland doesn't want you to leave.
The fairies are Weird, but never explicitly described (eg it'll mention Tinkerbell pinching Peter with 'a pair of her hind legs', but never actually say how many legs she has), which I kind of love.
There are multiple flashbacks to Peter's time in London, which are largely quite unpleasant. But like, they're supposed to be.
I really liked it. Big fan of Peter's relationships with the lost boys, and Tinkerbell, and his brothers, and, yes, Hook.
(Tiger Lily and the Native Americans are not in this book – probably a wise decision.)
American Psycho – Bret Easton Ellis
Okay so I didn't actually finish this. I reached the first on-page murder and it was too gnarly for me, but before that, I was quite enjoying it!
There's a lot of listing things. Everything everyone wears is listed and labelled. His skincare routine, his electronics, he's constantly droning on and on about all these things. It's fantastic, to me.
The way it's like, casually gradually revealed that he's a murderer works well – he has some violent thoughts and you think, maybe he's going to snap and kill someone for the first time halfway through this book, and then he's arguing with his dry cleaner about blood stains on his sheets and you think. Ah.
But, yeah, I read to relax before bed, and like I say, I reached the first on-page murder and it really quite actually unsettled me and I put the book down and did not pick it back up.
Cemetery Boys – Aiden Thomas
Trans boy sets out to prove his masculinity by undergoing a ritual to get the goddess of death's blessing to become a brujo – that is, a sorcerer whose job is helping ghosts move on to the afterlife.
He literally immediately succeeds, and ends up agreeing to help the ghost of his classmate with some stuff before Moving Him On.
It's fine. I don't know. The boys are cute enough (ghost boy is your classic jerk with a heart of gold type), and the Not Quite being able to touch thing is fun.
The climax of the book is like, 'literally summoning a monster from hell' , and any like... mysticism? Is kind of lost. The goddess of death literally physically appears (to grant our protagonist her blessing? Which she already did at the start? It's a bit weird, narratively.) Also I figured out the villain and their plan literally halfway through, and I'm not sure I was supposed to.
[Spoilers] I thought it was going to have a sad ending – ah you're falling in love with a ghost who is going to have to Move On at the end of the book, and that sucks! But you've learned about yourself and given him a nice last few days and – nope, turns out he's actually just Near Death (for days?) so he gets to be fine and they get to kiss and be happy the end. Which felt like a cop-out to me. Sorry I'm problematic I love tragic gays.
It's fine. Pretty standard YA fare tbh.
If We Were Villains – M. L. Rio
Oliver is released after ten years in prison and is met by the detective who arrested him, who is now retired and just wants to know what Actually Happened back then – ten years ago Oliver was a fourth year Shakespeare acting student whose fellow student died during their Julius Caesar cast party.
I picked this up basically on a whim and ended up devouring the entire thing in a few days. I loved it.
I adore, in a story, when we the reader know Something Terrible is going to happen, and the tension builds and builds until finally someone is dead in the lake with a hole gouged out of the side of his face. And the foregone conclusion that Oliver goes to prison for a crime we now know he didn't commit really worked for me during the ongoing fallout afterwards. (“you know sleeping with the dead guy's girlfriend looks really bad right” “oh it'll be fine” no it won't, buddy).
Also, and you may have been able to guess this part based on my saying I loved it, and the kinds of books I tend to love – there's some really powerful homoerotic tension that builds throughout the entire book.
It did somewhat stretch my knowledge of Shakespeare. They do a lot of Shakespeare, multiple performances as well as just quoting Shakespeare in regular conversation. Julius Caesar is the breaking point and I mostly followed that – they do Macbeth before that and Romeo and Juliet after that, I know both of those – the climax of the book is the climax of King Lear... the epilogue is, Pericles? Oh I am struggling here.
A real strong recommend from me.
The Galaxy, and the Ground Within – Becky Chambers
The fourth in what I guess we're calling the Wayfarers series now – this one is about 5 aliens who get temporarily stuck together in a small spaceport rest-stop.
There is no human point of view (the previous book before this was all human), and only one of the aliens is even really humanoid, and her species communicates via colour instead of speech (the others are a a bug guy, two are lanky furry quadrapeds, and the last is a small tree-dweller who has to use a mech-suit to get around). Thus, there is no “neutral” perspective – every chapter is from an alien angle. The woman who communicates naturally via colour and has had speech and hearing artificially implanted in order to get along in a society that does communicate via sounds does not experience the world the same way the other characters do.
There is not much of a “plot”, but that's not surprising, I've read three of these before this one. It's just the characters existing around each other. Having different experiences and outlooks, maybe learning a bit about each other. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I love character and hate plot, so this is the good shit, in my opinion.

Leah On The Offbeat
Tumblr media
Title: Leah on the Offbeat Author: Becky Albertalli Pages: 352 pages Genre: LGBT contemporary YA Ratings: ★★★
Synopsis:
Leah Burke - girl-band drummer, master of deadpan, and Simon Spier's best friend from the award-winning Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda - takes centre stage in this novel of first love and senior-year angst. When it comes to drumming, Leah Burke is usually on beat - but real life isn't always so rhythmic. An anomaly in her friend group, she's the only child of a young, single mom, and her life is decidedly less privileged. She loves to draw but is too self-conscious to show it. And even though her mom knows she's bisexual, she hasn't mustered the courage to tell her friends - not even her openly gay BFF, Simon. So Leah really doesn't know what to do when her rock-solid friend group starts to fracture in unexpected ways. With prom and college on the horizon, tensions are running high. It's hard for Leah to strike the right note while the people she loves are fighting - especially when she realises she might love one of them more than she intended.
Tumblr media
"Imagine going about your day knowing someone's carrying you in their mind. That has to be the best part of being in love - the feeling of having a home in someone else's brain."
My thoughts:
I went into this book thinking that I would love it just as much as SImon's book, but as I read more, I realised that I actually didn't really like Leah's character all that much. Don't get me wrong, I love the bisexual representation, and all the fact that Albertalli made Leah a plus-size girl really showed the inclusion, but there was something about her that really annoyed me.
I think the main thing that annoyed me about Leah is that when Abby came out to her she said that Abby wasn't bi enough and that actually annoyed me because it felt like Leah thought that she could decide Abby's sexuality for her, which just isn't right. Leah basically became someone who didn't sound too accepting of people.
I also realised while I was reading that I was only reading this for the Simon and Bram crumbs that are in it. I love the friendship that they had with each other and the prom scenes were honestly some of my favourite, especially Bram's promposal to Simon, but I just felt like Leah seemed to not really care about anyone else but herself, apart from Simon, and sometimes Abby.
It was a good book and I liked the plot, I just didn't really like some of Leah's characteristics. I think I've read this book a grand total of two times since I got it and I would read it again, just not as often as other books.

You know Shard & Nicole were never an official pairing, right? It was only *shown* that Shard felt something towards Nicole, but nothing on her end, making it look it was more of a unrequited crush. Plus they literally only interacted once prior to the start of the secret freedom fighters + sonic universe 50
And Rotor was planned to be gay before that idea got flushed down the drain. What’s your point?
Shard and Nicole’s relationship maybe have been short, but it was a great pairing in the comics. MOSTLY due to the fact that they both have AI intelligence and have bodies that are computer/robotic forms.
For the third time I have to tell you in this post, I have NOTHING against the Sally/Nicole ship that the fans have head canons of.
What I DON’T like is people like you telling me that “THAT’S how it’s done, the writers has the LAST SAY! So says the writers, so it shall be!”
And honestly, I’m getting REALLY sick and tired of others trying to forcefully shove their opinions that I don’t agree with in my face. And no offense, but right now, you sound like a White Knight that’ll attack someone online because of a rant post you don’t agree or like.
And speaking of which, why am I the ONLY one that’s getting the hate from you when there’s probably HUNDREDS of other fans who agree with me.
Sonic and Sally were a true pairing since the SatAm series, and the Archie Comics are a kind of continuation of said series. But when said writers of Archie Comics decides to try and change things up like “merging” the Segaverse with the original comic verse and change the characters to be the OOC tropes or whatever, then there’s not much of an originality from the SatAm series left!
Also, best friends and sister figures like Sally and Nicole CAN share a special bond, it’s called Sisterhood. It’s the same kind of bond Sally and Bunnie have, and even Mina and Nicole, it’s never about the romantic bond that the Archie Writers are trying to through in our faces, like the infamous Sally and Ken pairing, or Scourge and Fiona.
I’ve been answering your posts three times now, but you sound like you’re not gonna stop unless I “agree” with you. It sounds like you’re trying to “beat me” at a game of argument and come out the victor. If that’s true, then you’re sadly mistaken.
I’ve posted my small rant on here because it’s a vent post, whether anybody answered me or not. My opinions matter, but it’s people like you that just comes across posts like mine and tries to… what exactly? Sound like a Professor Know-It-All because of what little info you found online?
Let the fans post their opinions, rants, vents and inquiries on their pages without being bombarded by others and having some ideologies that sound toxic shoved down their throats.
I’ve already had a bad experience with a man-child who harassed a fan artist on DeviantArt because said Man-Child didn’t like the fan designs of the Archie/SatAm characters in Sega/IDW form.
So if you please, kindly stop messaging me about this again. This conversation’s done and over with.
Have a good day, and I hope you don’t do this again to someone else.

hey dirkjake guy , what makes you so interested in dirkjake so much ?
if I were to answer this with total accuracy we would be here all day and i’d have to hand you a 60 page peer reviewed thesis but since I don't have that time and i’m assuming you also don’t; There’s a LOT of things to work with if you read dirkjake as more than just… a vehicle for dirkcentric character angst. And they’re pieces actively embedded in the story! That matter! I like building fanwork around a textual basis and these two quite literally go as far back as being part of the guardians setting up SBURB beta in Act fucking 2. You can mine motifs until you’re dead. Here’s a contained, though by no means complete, list of things I particularly like about them:
1) Dirk and Jake both have highly imperfect experiences with their own gender/sexuality, partly out of societal pressure and partly because the story has decided what they ought to be. You've got two gay characters who are both a man in the WRONG way; Dirk overcompensates masculinity so hard he thinks of himself as too brash, imposing, damaging, nearly sizzling arsenic. Jake is expected to be the most perfect dude that has ever Het'd and fails in every feasible way because its not who he's comfortable being. He's not a wife-hunting casanova, He's just kind of a blatant useless fruit. Each of them thinks the other has it together and is doing sooooooooo much better than themselves, though.
I like that even though the adoration is mutual, the relationship is not smoothed out. It's not perfect from the get-go, and it's easier to make it awkward before making it good. We see them at their most immature, they have plenty of flaws, and they're extremely self-sabotaging in the way that isn't "cute" (or romantically convenient) but rather realistically concerning. I like seeing them working through it & maybe relapsing & putting in the effort to be better. They mean a lot to each other but have no idea how to go about it without putting on a show, it's comical to the point of being endearing.
...And they're still the one person that makes the other feel like more than just a sum of poorly stitched frankenstein parts.
2) Moving onto The Cringe Axis Of Relevance: Dirk and Jake are inextricable from the overarching plot and cyclical nature of Homestuck itself, Dirk as a motivator and Jake as a escapegoat. You could technically “pin” the “blame” of more than a dozen game changing plot events on them, and sometimes they’re not even aware of it. Beta Jake is HIC’s bastard child, a Dirk splinter is a core component of LE, Jake Harley translates the ancient runes in the frog temple containing the game code & is the one to release SBURB worldwide, eventually going on a time-displaced quest to get the game in motion; Ultimate dirk, funnily enough, is trying to do the exact same thing but much more shittily after borrowing one of Jake’s company ships and copying jadebot’s schematics for the purpose of making a robot daughter to forcefully restart Homestuck, The Webbed Comique, after its over. (Mom lalonde was Grandpa’s assistant & vaguely familial protégé, if you remember. Funny how that works!) And this is just like, in the text. Rose in the candy postscript directly drops it:
Tumblr media
I guess plagiarism is a backwards form of flattery :/
Alpha Jake in turn ends up flooded with promises of giving LE’s his first defeat, kickstarts a thousand little conflicts throughout act 6, brings dirk back to life with a kiss, sends the bunny back in time in the box (he was jade’s secret penpal that far back!), eventually only knocks caliborn on his ass because *Dirk* gets hurt in a fight, then it turns out davepeta is his sprite and actually the one fated to defeat the final boss, and that’s just the major stuff. Alpha Dirk & his dastardly AI-self messily usher the alphas into a new session, we only discover what the hell is up with alpha earth through dirk’s 20 page pesterlog gifted on jake’s birthday, Hal’s existence partly relies on Jake’s unending support- and so does Brain ghost dirk’s existence, for that matter. In big-scale and small-scale stuff alike, they’re tied up.
3) Overabundance of referential motifs: Homestuck is practically a big collage of character-relevant media. You can talk about things like some of jake’s favorite superheroes being similar to dirk, or how dirk and jake’s romance is jokingly compared to the Princess Bride via their planets/personalities/BGD literally quoting the movie and acting out the same sword movements, or how they both have a thing for artisanal puppetry, or how dirk is a history buff while jake is a time-displaced verbal oddity, or how Dirk's concerns with narrative philosophy and clean logic make him squarely Apollonian in certain lit terms & that is perfectly opposed by Jake's haphazard Dionysian approach! Or how Grandpa has an orange-lit room of knights and a replica of Iron Man’s armor (widely known for his fragile heart) to stand in for Dirk while Jake has his knight genre movie posters and dreams up dirk to serve the same role, or how the brobot, built with jake’s help, eventually has a nervous conniption and rips his heart out so it can be used as a battery - and while the moment is reminiscent of aradiabot's blue blood breakdown, the heart is actually the same kind grandpa had installed into jadebot; as both were created to protect someone dearly beloved.
Tumblr media
Funny how that works x4
Or just how like, Jake fantasizes about Avatar while kissing a poster but mentally he's having an elaborate dream of putting Dirk in the role of the movie's lead to prove how Awesome And Perfect life can be. Or how brain ghost dirk tells jake he looks good when he's feeling like shit and jake, in turn, says his gay little prince outfit looks pretty sweet and not dumb at all, in a sort of covert pep-talk system covering for both of their masculinity hang-ups. That works too.
4) They're the only ship I can confidently compare to Shrek, the Movie, and make that into insightful commentary.
And lastly:

The Most In-depth Analysis of Luca Marinelli’s Characters You’ll Ever Need
You’d think I was done with classifications, but I’m not! There’s so much more I can say about Luca Marinelli’s oeuvre and his magnificent roster of characters. And yes, I’ve made this post before where I highlighted specific tropes that show up in a lot of his movies, but that was surface-level shit. This is an actual exploration of what makes a Luca Marinelli character besides being a kinky little whore. And don’t worry, it’s still in that user-friendly question-answer format because I love you.
Here’s the thing: Luca is a chameleon but he also has a type, and this type is:
✨ a (likely) queer repressed addict with daddy issues ✨
That’s the skeleton. Let’s see how many of his major roles possess that skeleton at all and what flavors they add to the picture.
Disclaimer: I excluded characters with little screen time and Joseph from Mary of Nazareth because he doesn’t deserve rights. Also, instead of going in the boring chronological order, I’m gonna start with the least typical character for Luca and end with the crème de la crème. The results may not surprise you.
Nicky (The Old Guard)
Tumblr media
Is he queer? Undeniably.
Is he repressed? No.
Does he have an addiction? No.
Does he have daddy issues? I know we’re all deeply affected by our shitty father figures but I would genuinely question Nicky’s sanity if he were still on that shit at the ripe age of 951. A little tip for daddy-hating immortals out there: just do what Angel did and kill your shitty dad. Problem solved.
Is he violent? Despite doling out tons of violence, he doesn’t have a violent nature and seems uninterested in hating his enemy or delivering retribution.
Does he need a good night sleep? I’m sure nothing helps one sleep better than a Joe-shaped big spoon.
Does he need a good cry? Doesn’t seem like it.
Flavors: A perfect immortal warrior bean in a healthy relationship.
Conclusion: Ironically but unsurprisingly, Nicky is the least Luca-like character.
Guido (Tutti i santi giorni)
Tumblr media
Is he queer? I don’t believe so but who knows? If someone told me he’s demisexual, I’d believe it.
Is he repressed? The movie may disagree, but I say yes, obviously.
Does he have an addiction? Not unless you count his romantic relationship.
Does he have daddy issues? His family is so supportive and wholesome it’s almost parodic.
Is he violent? He’s the opposite of a toxic macho dude, but then he has a violent outburst out of nowhere because the movie is bad.
Does he need a good night sleep? He doesn’t like sleeping at night.
Does he need a good cry? Naturally.
Flavors: An adorkable awkward nerd with flowery speech.
Conclusion: I can forgive straightness and wholesomeness but I can’t forgive lack of complexity.
Martin (Martin Eden)
Tumblr media
Is he queer? I don’t believe so.
Is he repressed? Yes.
Does he have an addiction? No.
Does he have daddy issues? Not to my knowledge.
Is he violent? When he deems it necessary to be.
Does he need a good night sleep? Sure.
Does he need a good cry? Cry your little heart out, Martin!
Flavors: An arrogant, pretentious, politically confused writer.
Conclusion: A little too straight for your typical Luca, but he makes up for it with being complex and complicated.
Loris (Il mondo fino in fondo)
Tumblr media
Is he queer? I don’t believe so.
Is he repressed? So fucking repressed!
Does he have an addiction? Nothing beyond his savior complex.
Does he have daddy issues? He has a shitty dad he’s spent his whole life trying to please, and also his mommy left, so like yeah, obviously.
Is he violent? He has his straight dude moments.
Does he need a good night sleep? Definitely.
Does he need a good cry? Oh yeah, let him cry, it’s good for him.
Flavors: A casually homophobic mother hen.
Conclusion: Ruined by heterosexual agenda.
Lui (Ricordi?)
Tumblr media
Is he queer? I don’t believe so.
Is he repressed? Very.
Does he have an addiction? No.
Does he have daddy issues? A big sack of them.
Is he violent? No.
Does he need a good night sleep? Oh yes. To sleep, perchance to dream about anything other than his traumatic memories.
Does he need a good cry? So much.
Flavors: Up-his-butt and pensive.
Conclusion: Leave it to Luca to take a guy who would be an absolute nightmare in real life and turn him into someone I actually want to watch for two hours and see happy by the end.
Gabriele (Waves)
Tumblr media
Is he queer? There’s evidence he might be gay.
Is he repressed? I’d bet on it.
Does he have an addiction? Doesn’t seem like it.
Does he have daddy issues? Nobody knows.
Is he violent? No.
Does he need a good night sleep? He probably will with how the movie ended.
Does he need a good cry? At least one.
Flavors: A sweet introverted guy who loves boats.
Conclusion: While not particularly complex, Gabriele has layers and nuances. Also give him a big muscular daddy.
Fabrizio (Fabrizio de André - Principe libero)
Tumblr media
Is he queer? I don’t believe so.
Is he repressed? He was before music became his only career.
Does he have an addiction? Alcohol, cigarettes, sex, cheating - take your pick.
Does he have daddy issues? Not as bad as some of the other guys here but he’s heard his fair share of “I’m not mad, I’m disappointed” speeches.
Is he violent? He’s soft.
Does he need a good night sleep? He’s an artist, what do you think?
Does he need a good cry? He’s an artist, what do you think?
Flavors: Fabrizio de André is the flavor.
Conclusion: Even though it’s a biopic, there are still many Luca-isms there. He’s just that kind of actor.
Milton (Una questione privata)
Tumblr media
Is he queer? It could be argued that he is bisexual.
Is he repressed? Do you even need to ask?
Does he have an addiction? About half of the breaths he takes are filled with cigarette smoke.
Does he have daddy issues? He seems to have a good and loving relationship with both his parents.
Is he violent? Not by nature.
Does he need a good night sleep? Yep.
Does he need a good cry? He certainly does.
Flavors: A repressed bisexual feeling powerless in a horrible world.
Conclusion: This is proof that Luca can carry a whole entire movie on his sexy shoulders, alone. Also Milton needs a safe and loving triad.
Mattia (La solitudine dei numeri primi)
Tumblr media
Is he queer? I personally read him as asexual. Though assigning asexuality to characters who are traumatized is a dangerous path so don’t quote me on this, okay?
Is he repressed? Just the most repressed.
Does he have an addiction? It’s debatable whether self-harm and eating disorders can be considered addictions, but they’re part of his character, and I thought you should know.
Does he have daddy issues? His parents played their part in messing him up which then led to the big thing that really messed him up, though other than that his dad is barely a presence.
Is he violent? Not at all.
Does he need a good night sleep? At least 17 hours.
Does he need a good cry? Oh, so much. He needs all the cry.
Flavors: A quiet genius with lots of guilt.
Conclusion: Can you believe this was his first film role? Our boy is talented af!
Fabio (Lo chiamavano Jeeg Robot)
Tumblr media
Is he queer? Undeniably.
Is he repressed? You could argue that he is repressed by being limited in his place in social hierarchy.
Does he have an addiction? Amazingly enough, no. He has fixations, though.
Does he have daddy issues? Thinking his father was a loser and not wanting to end up like him is textbook stuff.
Is he violent? Very.
Does he need a good night sleep? Yes please.
Does he need a good cry? He needs to purge his soul from all the bottled up stuff.
Flavors: A campy psycho.
Conclusion: Luca’s most iconic character, so of course he scored high on the list.
Paolo (Il padre d’Italia)
Tumblr media
Is he queer? Undeniably.
Is he repressed? I can’t even start listing all the ways in which he’s repressed.
Does he have an addiction? He smokes a lot.
Does he have daddy issues? His issues are more of a mommy variety.
Is he violent? Not in the slightest.
Does he need a good night sleep? He’s the poster boy for needing a good night sleep.
Does he need a good cry? A good cry, a good weep, a good sob, a good bawl, *googles more synonyms* a good wail, a good squall...
Flavors: A self-loathing gay orphan in need of some life goodness.
Conclusion: What can I say about Paolo that all of you aren’t already thinking? Decent film, great character, excellent portrayal.
Mickey (Die Pfeiler der Macht)
Tumblr media
Is he queer? Undeniably.
Is he repressed? It’s Victorian England, you guys.
Does he have an addiction? He smokes casually but other than that... eh. And don’t tell me he has sex addiction. He uses his body strategically.
Does he have daddy issues? If what he has isn’t daddy issues, I don’t know what is.
Is he violent? He’s got tons of bottled up aggression.
Does he need a good night sleep? It would be great if he could use the day’s darkest hours for sleeping.
Does he need a good cry? Undeniably.
Flavors: A conniving slut extraordinaire.
Conclusion: A major player in the book (says me who managed like 50 pages), Mickey Miranda was turned into such a nothing character in the miniseries that they needed a truly extraordinary actor to make him memorable. And guess what, Luca delivered.
Cesare (Non essere cattivo)
Tumblr media
Is he queer? Not explicitly, but come on.
Is he repressed? Lethally.
Does he have an addiction? He’s an addiction textbook.
Does he have daddy issues? *Jake Peralta voice* Yeah, the guy without a daddy is the one with daddy issues. Explain that logic.
Is he violent? Oh yeah, he’s a rabid little trash goblin.
Does he need a good night sleep? So much.
Does he need a good cry? He’s had his fair share of good cries, but he could always use more.
Flavors: A aimless junkie.
Conclusion: The quintessential Luca. Beautiful.
Primo (Trust)
Tumblr media
Is he queer? Listen, just because we don’t see him fuck a dude on screen it doesn’t mean he isn’t a motherfluffing queer icon. It’s not subtext; it’s TEXT.
Is he repressed? Where do I even fucking start?
Does he have an addiction? Oh yeah. And a coke nail to prove it.
Does he have daddy issues? I would need a whole separate post to unpack his daddy issues.
Is he violent? So very violent.
Does he need a good night sleep? Yes, please. On an actual bed in an actual bedroom.
Does he need a good cry? You can just tell.
Flavors: A ruthless criminal with a strong mafia boss potential.
Conclusion: The pièce de résistance of the Luca Marinelli filmography. Not only does he tick every box, he gets bonus points for the excellent wardrobe choices that emphasize Luca’s best features. Primo Nizzuto is everything great you want from Luca, except singing. (Though in my headcanon that whole white car in a snowstorm monologue was a musical number.)

Hey! Do you have any irondad fic recs? I just started reading Peter and Tony fics again and I would love any recs you have!
Hello!
Yes, I do! :D It's by no means complete because I am still busy compiling, but I have quite a few already.
For all the below stories, please heed the tags and warnings on AO3. And of course, feel also free to check out my stories. :)
My AO3: https://archiveofourown.org/users/JolinarJackson/works
The below fics are not compiled in any particular order.
If I Die Young by MusicalLuna
Summary: Tony and Steve are trying to keep their little boy (who's not so little anymore) out of the superhero business for as long as possible, but when a kid's as stubborn as Peter is, they can't always stop him.
And sometimes things go wrong. Really, really wrong.
Categories: Superfamily, Not MCU!Peter Parker
Comment: This is a wonderful whump story that I go back to again and again.

Lightning in a Bottle by Gruoch
Summary: Peter takes the tablet and looks down at the screen, where a picture of Spider-Man intimately entangled in a passionate embrace with Johnny Storm is displayed across the majority of the Daily Bugle’s home page. TORCH CAUGHT IN SPIDER-MAN’S WEB, the headline reads, bracketed by spider and flame emojis. Peter looks back up at Tony, who is still staring at him completely stone-faced.
Tony reaches across the island and taps the screen. “So. What do you have to say about that?”
“Well. For one, I’m a little disappointed with the headline,” Peter offers.
Tony lets his chin drop against his chest, momentarily defeated, before taking a deep breath and once more skewering Peter with a hard look. “You could have at least given me some warning that the two of you are...I mean, I had my suspicions, but—”
“You’re misconstruing the situation. Spider-Man and the Torch are dating,” Peter explains. “Johnny and I are just friends.”
“Boy, you’re really leaning hard into this whole alter ego thing, aren’t you?” Tony deadpans. “How’s that working out for you?”
Categories: Irondad, SpideyTorch
Comment: I love stories taking advantage of the havoc that secret superhero identities can wreak on romantic relationships. The best about this particular story is the witty writing, which makes Peter being a chaotic mess in this even better.

The doubts that complicate by @frostysunflowers
Summary: "But he’s smart!" May had blurted, looking up at the teacher with misplaced anger. "I don’t...how does this make sense?"
She was worried, unaware, unprepared, not like Peter who had known for a while that some things were trickier for him than other kids. All the rules hidden in cheerful little rhymes and singing songs about which letters get along and those who don’t play nice; all the robotic reciting of the alphabet nearly every day: none of it had ever truly helped Peter understand how it all worked.
A brand new door opened in his life that day. On the front of it, the word ‘DYSLEXIC’ was printed in bold, the certainty of what it meant holding the letters permanently in place.
or
Nobody ever said being smart was easy.
Categories: Irondad
Comment: This is a wonderful read. @frostysunflowers manages to describe dyslexia in a way that makes the struggle understandable. The relationship between Tony and Peter is heart-warming. This is a great read if you're in the mood for something that is not too long and still want a good dosage of H/C.

Accepting the Tides by Emma_Anacortes
Summary: Tony had dragged Peter from the depths of despair after May's death. It was normal that he'd grown to care a little about him, right?
Yeah, okay. He freaking loved the kid.
So naturally he would feel a little weird when Richard Parker randomly shows up in Peter's life. Naturally he'd feel protective, nervous, and confused because where has Richard been all this time? And why does Tony feel sick every time he sees him around Peter?
All he knows is if Richard hurts his kid, Tony's gonna give him hell.
Categories: Irondad, Steve & Peter
Comment: This story is intense, no doubt about it. Please heed all the warnings and tags carefully. However, if you give it a try, it's so worth it. This story presents a different backstory to the relationship of Peter and his parents (especially his father) while exploring Peter and Tony forging a father/son-bond in the wake of May's death. I have to say that the the relationship between Peter and Steve in this story is just as prominent and amazingly written. I loved every second of it.

with arms wide open by @parkrstark
Summary: Tony and Pepper are expecting a baby and Peter may be the one most excited...just maybe…
Categories: Irondad, Pepperony
Comment: This is undeniably cute and heart-warming: Tony and Pepper get pregnant and Peter is right there with them, freaking out. Peter spends this story preparing to become a big brother while still being unsure about whether this is the role he is going to fulfill in the baby's life. This stoy focsses on the found family that is Tony, Pepper and Peter, but there are wonderful interactions with May, Rhodey and Happy as well.

the stars the moon they have all been blown out (you left me in the dark) by @madasthesea
Summary: It starts off with his vision fading in and out.
What kind of demon drug can make someone go blind by inhaling a single lungful? Whatever it is, Tony doubts it’s reversible. And while Peter’s no idiot, he can be idiotically optimistic. He's determined to fix what appears to be unfixable.
Categories: Irondad
Comment: This story is experienced entirely from Tony's point of view, which make the effects of the drug and his reaction to it all the more poignant. Tony's relationship to Peter is especially highlighted in this story. You can only imagine the worry and pain Peter geos through unil the very end of the story and the pay-off is worth it. I want to highlight the way that Tony's experiecne of the effects of the drug are described here, because I thought that was superb writing and put the reader righ in Tony's shoes.

turn back the clock (and I'll try again in the morning) by @madasthesea
Summary: Peter gets stuck in a time loop. In it, he lives through some of his worst nightmares, only to wake up that morning and have no one remember. He needs Tony to help him get through.
And if that isn't bad enough, his identity is revealed over and over, every day.
Categories: Irondad
Comment: This story is just SO GOOD. Not only is Peter experiencing the same day over and over again and his identity is revealed, but the way it happens also gets more and more taxing and gruesome. This story has emotional highpoints that are written fantastically and the Irondad in this is just heart-warming.

How The Mighty Fall by Meep_Morp
Summary: Since his duel against Toomes on Coney Island, Peter's life has settled down considerably. May knows about his double life and accepts it (mostly). Tony has welcomed him back, and given him more independence as New York's Spider-Man.
One night during patrol he crosses paths with Connor, a teenager who has Extremis in his blood and answers to the wrong kind of people. Though Tony is quick to distrust him, Peter finds himself reluctant to follow his mentor's lead, and a bond develops between the two boys. Their relationship is further complicated when Connor's former master, Negative, makes it a personal mission to destroy them both in his quest for power.
Taking down a superpowered psychopath? Tough, but Peter isn't going to back down.
Stopping Tony from blasting his first potential boyfriend into space? He might need a miracle for that.
Categories: Irondad
Comment: This story is so intricately plotted and just a joy to read. The characters are written to perfection and this includes an absolutely fantastic and fleshed-out OC who, as a reader, you come to care about easily and quickly. Much more subtle is the relationship between Peter and Tony in this fic but every single scene is on-point. I have read and re-read this story several times and it is hard to put aside once you start.

Project Pride by TheSleepingOwl
Summary: In hindsight, it should have been obvious. The signs were all there, unwittingly scattered by Peter like breadcrumbs for Tony to follow—the way he would fall into uncomfortable silence when the topic of dating came up, or become flustered whenever Tony teased him about the mysterious Michelle-Call-Me-MJ character Peter was constantly gushing about, or deflect Tony’s mostly-joking inquiries into whether or not they needed to be having The Talk with a hurricane of splutters and blushes.
And even without the signs, Peter was still his kid. Tony was just supposed to know these things.
So when FRIDAY pulled up Peter’s search history—‘how can i make myself not like boys,’ ‘can you force yourself to be attracted to girls,’ ‘how to stop your friends from knowing youre gay,’ and, most devastating, ‘how can i keep my parents from finding out im gay’—Tony wasn’t surprised so much as deeply, unquantifiably ashamed. Because he should have known.
Categories: Irondad
Comment: This story is an incredibly written POV of Tony coming to terms with Peter's sexuality. It's achingly realistic in the way Tony struggles to connect to Peter, knowing that he's gay. Additionally, this story has a hefty doese of Hurt/Comfort thrown in that hurts when reading it. This is a gem.

Birds Eating Other Birds by aloneintherain
Summary: Peter wishes he hadn’t gotten out of bed that morning. Then, maybe, he wouldn’t be reduced to this - limp-crawling through the rabbit burrows that is Oscorp Tower, a monster of a man on his heels, bloody and bruised and choking on a panic attack.
Categories: Irondad, not MCU!Peter Parker
Comment: I love aloneintherain's stories. I read them when I first got into Avengers fanfic and the way they write dynamics is great. This one is intense and the way it's written sucks you right into it. Norman Osborn is so evil and creepy in this one. Part one is mainly hurt, but stick around for the comfort in part 2!

----- And here are some Avengers team dynamic fics as well -----
It Was Probably The Pudding by Serendipity_Cometh
Summary: Given that over the course of the past eleven months Peter Parker hasn't contracted so much as a head-cold, the teenager thought it safe to assume that the whole 'irradiated spider bite' gig had equipped him with an immune system of steel that rivalled Captain America's.
So when he wakes up one night in the midst of the worst asthma attack he's suffered in almost eight years, neither he nor the rest of the team can think of a logical explanation.
And everything sort of goes downhill from there.
Categories: Team, Stony, Clint/Phil, not MCU!Peter Parker
Comment: When I started out reading Avengers fanfictions, I stumbled across this one and go back to it on a regular basis. Lots of whump and great team dynamics.

In the Home by aloneintherain
Summary: The Avengers have been infected, turned violent and aggressive against their will. And Peter, the only one unaffected, is trapped inside the Tower with six feral teammates.
“Natasha,” Peter says cautiously, “what happened here? Steve attacked me, and if there was ever a sign that something was wrong, it’s having the embodiment of Truth, Justice, and the American Way throw you across the room -”
Natasha comes closer, her stride controlled. Nothing necessarily out of the ordinary, but there’s something in her face, in her eyes -
Natasha lunges across the space, and slams into Peter, hard.
Categories: Team, not MCU!Peter Parker
Comment: One of my very early reads when I started out in the Avengers fandom. Excellent whump, hurt/comfort and team dynamics.

Fitting In (Tiny Spaces) by aloneintherain
Summary: Peter's trapped beneath a collapsed building during a mission, hurt and unable to move. Luckily, his comm still works. Unluckily, the Avengers don’t realise how bad of a state Peter is in, and Peter isn’t inclined to tell them.
“Spidey, they’ve got reinforcements. We’ve hit a bit of a snag here, and I don’t think anyone will be able to help you for a while. Think you can sit tight while we deal with this?”
The pressure on his lower back and legs was becoming too much. Peter swallowed thickly, fighting down panic. He could handle this.
“Yeah,” Peter said. “I can do that.”
Categories: Team, not MCU!Peter Parker
Comment: There are so many "Peter trapped under a building"-stories out there but this is the one I read first and it stuck with me. Loved the team dynamic in this.
