“I was standing next to Charlie and his kit [the first time we met]. I had no idea what to talk about, so I offered to help him schlep his kit. He smiled and declined my offer; he already knew better and that my skills lay elsewhere. He had mesmerised me at the Station Hotel…
Our last sessions together were 'We Love You' and ‘Dandelion'. As happened on many a Stones tune going in, there was no pre-arranged ending - better to see if the meat and potatoes were in place before applying the veg. The ending was a mélange of Nicky Hopkins and Brian Jones on keyboards and woodwind, Keith and Mick on hallowed vocals and Charlie leading the fray with improvised fills. At the time I thought the fills were just for me.”-Andrew Loog Oldham, 2022

Greetings from Casper, Wyoming, where this morning, it was -7 degrees. 🥶 Alex is here to present at a conference for a few days. The people of Wyoming took one look at this beach blonde Florida Woman and told me no, I should not risk driving almost three hours one way on icy roads to go see wild horses. But I did it anyway, luckily it was sunny, the roads were dry and the winds that can blow quite dangerously across the range were mild.
I spent the day at Wind River Horse Sanctuary, a private farm on the Wind River Reservation operated by a veterinarian and his family (his sons are are also vets). This 1,400-acre ranch is where they raise and break Quarter Horses but 700 acres are set aside for wild American mustangs. The Oldham family adopts wild mustangs from BLM holding facilities that are generally too old to adopt out for second careers (15+) and let them live out their years safe and free. Wild horses from 10 states live here. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience to meet the horses and the people here. I came alone and met every person and saw every horse. Wild herds still exist on the range of this very reservation, but their future is in constant jeopardy.

Hello! I loved your Brian lives fic. Do you have any other recs of fics featuring Brian?
Thank you for reading my story, I'm glad you enjoyed it.
And thank you for your questions, which sent me back to re-read some Brian-centered favorites, and also helped me find some new ones.
[as I'm doing unspeakable things to my fingernails awaiting @scurator's Brian/Paul/John story...]
Here are fics featuring Brian (preferably front and center, or looming large in absence) that I enjoyed a lot: Brian and the Boys:
We Happy Few (Selena). One of my favorite stories. Brian’s love for each of the Beatles. • a bottle of milk and some tranqulizers (Naraht). What if Brian were a character in AHDN? Short, with a very nice ending.
Brian and John:
Irrevocable Condition (@dailyhowl). John and Brian are together, free bohemians rising to the top • Crawling to the Car (@dailyhowl). Fantastic fractured impressionistic story set during the 1966 Paris trip with Brian, John, Paul, and Maggie McGivern. It’s about the snapshots in Paul’s camera, John’s loneliness, John and Brian’s almost love that is love, and the tether between John and Paul. • Formby Sands (Naraht). 1962. Brian dives into the cold waves. John watches and warms him up. Mismatching love, blue lips, and shivers.
Barcelona:
The Birds in the Sky Would be Sad and Lonely (@dailyhowl). The trip from John’s anxious, angry, messy point of view. I like that John wants Brian; dares to go further with him that with Stu or Paul. • From Barcelona to Santa Cruz (thinkpink20). John and Paul talk after Barcelona. Let the misunderstandings begin. • Barcelona (Selena). Paul and Astrid talk in Tenerife, or try to. Paul refuses to admit what’s bothering him. Very interesting perspectives.
Brian and John/Paul:
Nothing Mr. Epstein Can Do (@dailyhowl). Musings about John and Paul. ‘Brian wonders if he could consider himself the love child of their psyches.’  • Blue Christmas (@theoldmixer). My ‘Brian lives AU’ 2023 Secret Santa prompt twin! In this version, Brian acts as J/P matchmaker during the 1968 Christmas Party. He is handling things like a true professional.
Brian and Paul:
Managing Expectations (@pauls1967moustache). Paul is unsettled because he can’t tell where he begins and John ends. Brian is the obvious person to help. A psychosexual collision (and, as always with moeexyz, an A++ character study).
Brian and George:
Evasion (quietprofanity). The story is really about all of the Beatles, with Brian at the center and a very unhealthy John [who redeems himself] and some interesting Paul/George, but the most interesting throughline, to me, was George and Brian: from the moment Clive Epstein mistakes George for one of Brian’s flings to their beautiful night together. • The Rent Boy Misunderstanding (@ilovedig). George and Brian in the car, after Clive jumped to the wrong conclusions.
Brian and Andrew Loog Oldham: A guy who really knows his way around (Naraht). Brian meets a very young Andrew, and is suitably amused and intrigued. I loved Brian’s smooth POV.
Brian and Alistair Taylor: Another Kind of Love (Naraht). For once, “I loved him, but not like that” feels believable. Worth it for the growling Alistair vs. Peter Brown raising of the hackles alone.

There's one moment in X-Ray that I keep thinking about since I've read it : the one in page 245.
Tumblr media
After finishing X-Ray, I dived a bit on the Internet to search for some information about Michael Aldred and found this extract from Andrew Loog Oldham's autobiography ?
Tumblr media
The whole "falling in love" bit explains a lot about Michael's behaviour.
Updating this after reading the section in "Kink" that mentions Michael.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And combining what all these books said about him, it seems that he fell in love a lot, but none of his relationships lasted a long time. I wonder if he ever managed to find real love...
I found more interesting stuff about Michael Aldred.
Tumblr media
First meeting and already trying to hit on Dave. Wow.
Now I just imagine Pete laughing in the background
Tumblr media
That adds more stuff to the Andrew Loog Oldham bit about Michael's personality...
Also I keep forgetting he actually lived in the Connaught Gardens house.
Sorry if this is quite awkward, I wrote this while literally starting to get into the Kinks, so almost a year ago, I think? Tried to fix some sentences a bit, removed others, but I'm unsure I got it right. This post was basically just me trying to find mentions of Michael Aldred since there was almost nothing on the net.

Jimmy Page and the Rolling Stones: 60 years of musical flirtations
Certainly, not all blues enthusiasts of the early 1960’s can claim to have become some of the most influential musical artists of all time. But that’s one thing that Jimmy Page and the members of the Rolling Stones have in common.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first encounter between Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Jimmy Page occured in 1962, just a few months before the formation of the Stones. The three English boys travelled all the way from the South to attend UK’s first American Folk Blues Festival in the city of Manchester. They met at a blues collector’s house, and together they listened to Howlin’ Wolf’s masterpiece album commonly known as ‘Rocking Chair’—then newly released. For a blues fanatic back then, meeting someone with the same interest was something almost extraordinary. Most people weren’t interested in what was still a rather obscure music genre and preferred rocking and rolling to the songs on the radio. For this reason, if you liked the blues and met someone alike, you were going to remember them.
By the end of the same year, Jimmy was spotted during a gig at the Marquee Club in London and asked to play regularly on record sessions. This was the start of a short but prolific career as a session musician for the young man, who would soon encounter Mick and Keith again, this time with the rest of the Rolling Stones. He played on a number of demos for the band, three of which were officially released on Stones records:
These sessions were a great opportunity for Page to develop an understanding of how records were produced: he spent hours in the control room, and soon he was employed as house producer and arranger at Andrew Oldham’s Immediate Records. In 1968, the record company released Blues Anytime Vol 1-2-3, a series of records containing works by various British blues artists. Jimmy featured in two of these, producing a few songs on which Mick Jagger (harmonica), Bill Wyman (bass), Ian Stewart (piano) and Eric Clapton (guitar) were the musicians.
Around this time, Jimmy also gave a helping hand to Brian Jones on the soundtrack for the cult classic movie A Degree of Murder (recorded late 1966-early 1967), also using his now notorious trick of the violin bow. He recalls:
“Brian knew what he was doing. It was quite beautiful. Some of it was made up at the time; some of it was stuff I was augmenting with him. I was definitely playing with the violin bow. Brian had this guitar that had a volume pedal – he could get gunshots with it. There was a Mellotron there. He was moving forward with ideas.”
—Jimmy Page, from issue #1171 of Rolling Stone
Legend has it that the Stones had previously asked Page to join the band in order to throw Jones out, but he declined.
The group was again looking for a guitarist in late 1974, to fill the spot left by Mick Taylor’s sudden goodbye. Jimmy had recently jammed in the studio with them on a fun session which birthed the track Scarlet, but it was highly unlikely that he would leave the then biggest band in the world—even for the Rolling Stones. The track remained in the vaults for 46 years, and was finally released in 2020 as part of the expanded edition of Goats Heads Soup.
“I had completely forgotten about it. Someone told me it was Ginger Baker on drums. And I rang Jimmy Page up — I didn’t remember anything — and Jimmy Page remembered everything! This person played on it, it wasn’t Ginger Baker … he seemed so certain about it.”
— Mick Jagger on The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show, July 22, 2020
Jimmy Page and the Rolling Stones would cross paths again in September 1983 when both Jimmy and Bill Wyman played on the ARMS Charity Concert, later embarking on an American tour with the rest of the musicians involved.
As a result of this, several of said musicians were invited to take part of Wyman’s latest project, Willie and the Poor Boys. Inspired by the music of the early 1950’s, they congregated at Jimmy Page’s home studio, the Sol, and recorded numerous tracks, twelve of which were officially released on a 1985 self-titled album. Jimmy can be heard on two of them:
The Eighties were a time of turmoil for the Rolling Stones as its two principal songwriters, Richards and Jagger, had been feuding over the band’s direction for most of the decade. Nonetheless, right after the Willie and the Poor Boys sessions commenced the recording process for Dirty Work. Jimmy took part of another jam session with the band, immortalised on the hit single One Hit (To The Body).
In 1992, the 7th annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame took place, and among the chosen legends to be honoured that year were the members of the Yardbirds. Keith Richards also attended the ceremony, being assigned the role to induct Leo Fender, one of his idols and legendary creator of the Fender Stratocaster. Later on, an All-Star Band was formed for a one-off performance and Keith and Jimmy found themselves merrily jamming together once again on classics such as ‘Green Onions’, ‘Soul Man’, ‘Big River’, ‘Dust My Broom’, ‘Shout’, ‘All Along the Watch Tower’, ‘Purple Haze’ and ‘Something Is Wrong With My Baby’.
After sharing much of their success over the past six decades, Jimmy Page and the members of the Stones remain close friends, now having earned a well deserved title as rock and roll legends.

Sam Claflin and Adaptations (there's a lot more than you think!)
Articles and interviews be like: Sam, you have done so many book adaptations and then name at most three titles. Every fucking time. Luckily, I'm here to tell you about them! (Under the cut as it got long.)
Hunger Games Catching Fire and Mockingjay (books written by Suzanne Collins) - YA dystopia. The most obvious, of course. Sam plays Finnick Odair, the coolest character. (He's not dead, Katniss is lying.)
Daisy Jones and the Six (book written by Taylor Jenkins Reid) - story of a rise and fall of fictional band in the 1970s. Sam is Billy Dunne, the main male lead and a real rockstar!
My Cousin Rachel (book written by Daphne du Maurier) - Gothic thriller, 19th century. Sam is the narrator, Philip. This is my personal favourite.
Their Finest - adaptation of Their Finest Hour and a Half (book written by Lissa Evans) - Drama with bits of comedy. Set during WW2 in the film industry. Sam plays screenwriter Buckley, a member of a film crew working on a film about Dunkirk evacuation. Also features a side character who is gay and is alive at the end. More people should watch this film, imo.
Enola Holmes (book written by Nancy Springer) - kiddie Sherlockian pastiche. Sam plays Mycroft Holmes, at least that's his character's name, but it's not the usual Mycroft; his version is dumbed-down and cartoon-villainised so that the eponymous teenage girlboss can have her story.
Adrift - adaptation of Red Sky in the Mourning (book written by Tami Oldham Ashcroft) - survival drama of a seafaring couple lost at sea after a hurricane. Sam is the main character's love interest, Richard.
Two mini series from Sam's early career (that I haven't watched so can't give you any info):
Pillars of the Earth (book written by Ken Follett) - TV mini series set in 12th century about building of a cathedral. This was Sam's very first role.
Any Human Heart (book written by William Boyd) - TV mini series, chronicles a life of a writer in 20th century. Sam plays the youngest version of the main character, Logan.
Adaptations of plays - it counts, okay?
Journey's End (play written by RC Sherriff) - WW1 war film, but not a regular one (there's no battles). Covers a week in the trenches in March 1918. Sam plays Captain Stanhope, an officer at the edge of nervous breakdown. One of his best performances, if not the very best.
Riot Club (play written by Laura Wade) - contemporary film about a posh elite club at Oxford. Sam's character, Alistair, is a spoiled brat, Draco Malfoy-like. (Not the good fanon version, the bad canon version.) Btw, this is no Dead Poet's Society, no dark academia - the titular club is based on Bullingdon Club (of which Boris Johnson was member). They book a table at restaurants, trash them and then hand the owners a cheque to compensate. You see now why we have all these problems...
You can make an argument for:
Snow White and the Huntsman - (folk tale recorded by Brothers Grimm). It's a darker retelling. Sam plays William, the prince charming of the story.
Snow White and the Red Shoes, (as above) an animated film, he voices a character named Merlin. No idea what this is as I haven't seen it.
Okay now I'm stretching it
Pirates of the Caribbean On Stranger Tides - adapted from a Disneyland ride. BUT the ride itself was inspired by legendary tales of pirates, among others the books of Emilio Salgari. So, not that crazy. Might be the weakest of the franchise, but Sam's storyline--he plays the missionary Philip--is what saves it, his romance with the mermaid is just the cutest!
So that's it. Thank you for reading and I hope you check some of these out.

Brian Jones tries to distract attention from the 12-string guitar with his footsteps, 1960s
Tumblr media
He became famous due to his unique skill in directing the melody in an unusual way, the vivid image of a kind of London dude of the 60s, as well as a sad lifestyle that was more than rock and roll... He died just a month after he was fired from The Rolling Stones, one of the most iconic bands of all time. At the same time, it was he – Brian Jones – who was its founder.
Tumblr media
Brian Jones became one of the first musicians to join the ranks of the infamous "Club 27". He was the most controversial, scandalous and flamboyant person of his time. As his school friend recalled:
"Brian was a born rebel, that's a fact!"
Tumblr media
According to Keith Richards:
"On stage, Brian always tried to attract all the attention to himself – he did it unceremoniously and brazenly, and he was probably cool at that! He really wanted to outshine Mick as a frontman and take the audience by storm!"
youtube
Brian picked up the guitar and harmonica early, but when it happened, he felt that it was his.
Tumblr media
Brian hated school, although he studied very well – he had a well-developed intellect, and he was not afraid to criticize the education system, which even caused him to be expelled. He was particularly good at English and music, and hated homework. He locked himself in a room and listened to jazz with ecstasy...
Tumblr media
Finally, in 1962, he made a 100-mile trip to London, where he was expected to meet Mick and Keith. So, in general, the birth of the Rolling Stones took place.
youtube
At first, Brian was the leader and manager of the group, but later he was hired for this position Andrew Luga Oldham. Jones' role gradually decreased, and the spotlight – as the leading songwriters – turned out to be Jagger and Richards.
By the mid-60s, The Rolling Stones were at the peak of their popularity!
Tumblr media
youtube
By 1969, he was nothing more to the Stones than the person who simply formed it. He was fired. He did not say anything about his plans for the future, but stated:
"I want to play my own music."
Tumblr media
Unfortunately, he was gone in less than a month. His body was found in the pool, and it is not fully clear whether it was a pure accident or not... There was something else going on. He was only 27 years old, but in such a short life he had already managed to put together one of the most legendary bands in history and felt all the devastating consequences.
Tumblr media
Two days after his death, the Rolling Stones honored the memory of their comrade at a concert in Hyde Park. In front of a crowd of 250,000 people, Mick Jagger, overshadowed by the tragedy, quoted a poem Percy Bysshe Shelley in memory of Brian:
"He did not die, he only overcame
The dream of life, the dream in which we are tortured
We are all ourselves among the worries..."
Tumblr media
And while the crowd sat silently on the grassy slopes, the group released 3,500 butterflies – another gesture and greeting to Brian.

Provenance mysteries: Diodori Siculi historiarum libri aliquot, qui extant, opera & studio Vincentii Obsopoei in lucem editi
Tumblr media
The fourth provenance mystery of 2023 features Diodori Siculi historiarum libri aliquot, qui extant, opera & studio Vincentii Obsopoei in lucem editi, printed in Basel by Johann Oporinus in 1530.
Tumblr media
This work of Greek history by Siculus Diodorus, the ancient Green historian, is in Greek with a preface and opening poem in Latin. According to an auction record, this was the first edition to appear in print of Diodorus’s history in its original Greek. This edition consists of books 16-20 of the original forty books of Greek history written by Diodorus. It was edited by Vincentius Opsopäus (d. 1539), who is best known for writing De arte bibendi, a guide to drinking.
Tumblr media
As can be seen on the title page, the book has many contemporary inscriptions. The first reads: ‘Thomas [L?]enerus dono dedit Rodol[?]’ and the second ‘Guielmi Fulconis emptus a prope/hta Cantab’ followed by a price paid for the book; as per the inscription, the book was purchased in Cambridge. Although the first inscriber has not been identified, it is possible that the second inscription refers to William Fulke (1538-1589), a Puritan divine and the author of at least one work on mathematics.
The longer inscription, in Greek, is a transcription of a poem ascribed to Theocritus, the Greek bucolic poet, and it is from his Idylls, number IX, line 31. The inscription is signed ‘Broughton’, and the hand is very similar to the British Library’s Royal MS 1AIX, The book of Daniel translated into Greek by Hugh Broughton. Hugh Broughton (1549-1612) was an English Hebraist, preacher, and translator who wrote A concent of scripture in 1588; he was a fellow of Christ’s College, Cambridge.
While I think it is safe to declare that the Greek inscription is in Hugh Broughton’s hand, there still remains the mystery of positively identifying Fulke’s hand, and identifying the inscription at the top of the title page. I have not found any evidence of what books Fulke or Broughton may have had in their personal libraries, nor what happened to them.
The book is bound in a Cambridge binding, with Oldham roll (SW.b(3)), as identified for me by David Pearson in 2021. As can be seen here, it is heavily damaged and the book as a whole requires conservation. If you would like to sponsor its repair, please get in touch.
As this mystery is literally all Greek to me, I relied on my colleague Kostas Tsilikas to identify the Greek text.
As ever, if you recognise this hand or have further comments please get in touch: [email protected].

this is probably a bit of an insane take but the older i get the more interested i become in straight people's capacity to experience and desire queerness while remaining straight. i really like forcing straight narratives to acknowledge queer desire as a component of straightness, not something that negates it, because it affirms that queer desire does not reflect like, ontologically on a person's nature. i think that any queer framework that acknowledges queer people can identify with labels as an expression of community and self-identity while experiencing desire not "normally" (heavy airquotes for lack of a better word) associated with that label has to recognize a straight person can do the same. i think that's neat i think more straight people should talk about this plainly it makes me sad that they cant. i think the historical precedent of chivalry as a deeply explicitly heterosexual world framework in its own context actually produces insanely homoerotic priorities as a byproduct of oppressive misogyny, a process that remains intensely relevant to modern day relationships between men, masculinity, and what it means to "love" women when the only full people are other men to whom you owe more respect and love than the women you're meant to be attracted to. i like it when they psychosexually do murder about this also.
[INSERT BLINGEE'D BANNER THAT READS: "THIS IS NOT ABOUT YOUR BLORBO THIS IS ABOUT WILL "BONNIE PRINCE BILLY" "PALACE "MUSIC" "BROTHERS"" OLDHAM AND NOBODY ELSE]

What designers do you want to see jeonghan wear/etc?
when u start reading this u will understand the despair i felt when tumblr deleted my reply (just as i was finishing the margiela part) But we live… so okay i must warn you this is long and i made collages bc there was way too many pictures i wanted to show… One thing about me i don’t like to half ass things so i really hope you enjoy reading all this 🫶🏻 (this is one of my favorite questions i got asked EVER)
I wanted to start off with Jolo (Jeonghan solo) first just because i have that on my pinterest saved and Ready. You know i envision kind of fallen angel (1004) for one concept and venusian otherworldly beautiful man that it makes you uneasy for the other concept? Okay so first one some of the inspiration (versace ss02, mugler 84, givenchy (by mcqueen) haute couture 1997, mcqueen fw 06, blumarine ss24)
Tumblr media
Second one i just think simone rocha all over… it would fit his whimsical looking ass…And this JPG look with the pearls AND the givenchy all white beauty just yes… Oh i adore.
Tumblr media
Now let’s get into the Real Question. Need to make it clear that the fashion houses i mention are the ones i love (for myself aka it’s my taste aka the fits you see I ALSO WANT) so yes it’s biased a bit but i do always keep a tab on jeonghan so this is not something i just came up with… TRUST!
first of all i need to start with YSL (i just saw his ig story. Please) bc i BELIEVE that they will make him their muse. i just feel it in my intuitive soul and mind…. Anyway i already posted some looks i want to see him but it doesn’t hurt to get reminded. Sidenote i REALLY need to see him become part of snowflake community (i’m the president ofc) i just need to see him in a pretty šubara it is my right as his slavic woman…
Tumblr media
peter do. I need him to hit up jeonghan… it’s possible like jeno walked for him can he please hop over to hybe i have a perfect person in mind…..
Tumblr media
alexander mcqueen… that’s kinda a no brainer you know how much i love structured, sleek design of course i would love jeonghan in them too… Imagine his tiny waist in these just magnificent if you ask me…. And the little bunny bag. don’t even get me started on that i have ZERO words
Tumblr media
now i know he is a very cozy man and likes his outfits to be baggy so much that you don’t even see his body. May i present him with some yohji yamamoto in my opinion he would rock everything AND would feel cozy and comfy like he does in his giant hoodies. Going with the cozy (bc i am afraid i will go over the picture limit) i have to (lump them together) and mention margiela - i am actually surprised i haven’t seen any svt man in tabis but there is still time 🫣 With that ofc comes early 00s hermes which is my favorite… (i didn’t post my f/w fits here bc i had other blog but i will this year and u will see what i’m talking about)
Tumblr media
mugler… Let me not repeat myself the pictures can talk for themselves and in this case (bc again i got over the 10 pic limit) i gotta group him them with gucci (by tom ford it’s given) so we are talking maybe fw 96 with velvet suits or 1995 … Actually 1995 fits so well bc he is 95 baby okay okay SEE connections…. I need to be his stylist he would look so cunt.
Tumblr media
i think schiaparelli would be good on him (manifesting. again if i could just have a word with his stylist.)
Tumblr media
Had to delete anne demeulemeester paragraph i am sorry but this next collage was more important so it was a fight and anne lost. ANYWAY I would LOVE to see him in custom dilara findikoglu like imagine it says jeonghan dangling… similar to this i would love for him to have a todd oldham shirt with his name like nadja does here (a big cozy shirt bc he’s so difficult abt it…) This egonlab outfit i adore i had it saved i think it would suit him perfectly. and this haider ackermann leather wrap coat. and this vivianne westwood winter hat. and this 2123 shirts. And i think i should stop now before someone euthanizes me!
Tumblr media
This got SO long i could talk about this for ages and i am sorry if this was all over the place i would make a powerpoint presentation if i had time. but i need to stop myself from exhibiting signs of mental illness on my dear blog. But i hope this was fun to read… I hope 🫶🏻

grimes by tom oldham for the fly uk magazine may 2012
~-._ ~-._.-~ _.-~
literally searched high and low for this image by itself or in higher resolution, but it’s nowhere to be found.  the fly dot co dot uk doesn’t even exist anymore.  tom oldham’s personal blog has images from this shoot but not this one.  even pinterest comes up dry.
so i extracted it from this low-res full-page scan in @loveyouclaire‘s source post:
Tumblr media
@grimes-claireboucher already posted the extracted image off this scan back in the day, but that was before the advent of ai upscaling so…
