Aim to pop balloons and score points by launching clowns into the air with a teeter-totter. That's how Circus Atari brought a fun and timeless concept - originally created by Exidy - to the world of home system gaming.
Nevertheless, this game goes beyond mere simplicity and challenges your skills and strategic thinking. With a total of five clowns at your disposal, each one counts.
Failing to catch a clown on the teeter-totter results in a comical crash and their swift departure from the playfield. But fear not, as you can quickly introduce a replacement clown by pressing the controller button, launching them from the trampoline located at the playfield's corners. However, a bit of finesse is required to ensure that each new clown lands on an unoccupied part of the teeter-totter, preventing unwanted collisions.
Circus's unique charm lies in its evergreen appeal. Many other companies have attempted to replicate its enchantment by releasing similar games under various monikers. Yet, the Atari version and Clowns on the Vic-20 remain close to my heart as personal favorites.
Again, Despite its straightforward concept, the Atari title offers a surprising level of strategy that keeps you entertained. Time your jumps with precision to position yourself strategically between the rows of balloons. This allows you to maximize your balloon-popping efficiency within the limited timeframe, scoring as many points as possible in just a few seconds.
Additionally, making effective use of the side trampolines is essential. By allowing either clown to land there, you can create a momentary respite from the frantic action when needed, providing a brief pause to regroup from the psychological pressure of preventing the clowns from crashing to the playfield.
And truly, there's a unique satisfaction in skillfully popping the row of red balloons situated above the blue and yellow ones. Not only is it the most challenging row to clear, but the reward includes bonus points and, more importantly, an extra life.
Without a doubt, it's a classic and a game I continue to relish even today.

This gaming series has always had a special place in my heart for more reasons than one.
In middle school and high-school it was my shit played more co op than campaign in college cause I had a solid group of friends I'd hop on with.
But as a military brat I got the biggest crush on Mactavish when I was a tween, irritated the hell out of my bf at the time to the point he'd start snarky arguments about how I gush over a scottsman when his Irish ass is right there granted we'd laugh about it cause I'd point out how stupid it was that he's getting bent over a video game character, his ma would even join in saying just wait maybe an actual Scottish boy will swipe me from him.
As much as he gave me shit over Soap certain parts of the game hit him hard too.
We mutually broke up before high school, still hung out and gamed together but he decided he was going to join the army after graduating and didn't want me stuck worrying constantly, even though I expressed my interest in joining the marines like my dad.
That started up a whole new 'dig at each other' playfully of course both of us came from military families him strictly army me a mix of marine, army, and navy.
Dad was against his only baby girl joining the military and I just said alright ill just do some form of art than, ended up taking international culinary courses and cosplay ended up unironacally making military friends regardless.
You'd be surprised how many service men and women I've met in the cosplay community not to mention lawyers and doctors, even dentists it's wild honestly but it's neat, and some of them would play with me on CoD just to keep in touch. We'd joke and shit on each other and shit on the occasional teams that would be toxic in the lobby after losing the match to a team mixed with chicks and guys and would scream hacks.
Long and short of it this game is a staple in many special memories for me. It isn't just a game I play for the fun of it, I've made friends, connections and sometimes we all hop on just to chat in the lobby not even going into game. We would just sit cracking jokes and go back and forth if we wanted to hop in a match and go naaaaaaaaaah not tonight, got work or nah I have morning classes or mmm gotta be at base early or I would, ect you get the idea life stuff.
Now I'm back in it watching my friend that's never played a shooter in her life enjoying co op and the campaign and its the best thing to see.
She's a Konig girl and gets shitty that he's not in it much and me and my other pal just laugh and tell her he wasn't in the old games much either, nothing new better get used to relying on the simping fandom for her Konig material.
She even went and started a fanfiction and asks me all kinds of questions, although she had the audacity to call Ghost mean and I'm just like girl how dare 😤
Seriously don't know why people think he's mean, clearly they haven't heard his glorious dad jokes dudes just a hardened soldier.
But she adores Soap too so we chat often about him or she'll gush about Konig or send me mass GhostSoap pictures and I'm just like wow you found that side of the Fandom took you long enough 😆
Even my military hubby joins us cause he grew up playing the games too. Imagine his suprise one year when he came home from a deployment catching his wife playing CoD not knowing I even had an interest in the game.
That was a fun conversation our first year married.
Sat and watched him start the new campaign last night and I was so frustrated that he purposely would get Price killed just to rile me up (even detonated himself at one point) before restarting the mission and say 'imma do it again' only for me to tell him to leave the old man alone and actually do the damn mission.
Sorry not sorry felt like reminiscing, tis the season of recalling fond memories.

Being an old gamer is gaining the confidence and wisdom to admit that while you respect Elden Ring and Old School RuneScape, you can't play them because you just suck at video games.

I am absolutely horrible at video games. Lifelong awful gamer right here. I'm twitchy in all the wrong ways, when backed into a corner I instinctively buttonmash, I'm unable to account for carryover motion so I'm always sliding off of shit - truly, truly terrible. The only game-game I've ever successfully played is Lego Harry Potter, because it's a game for little tiny children so the hit boxes are looser than Michelle Duggar. (Sorry, I try not to bodyshame but they're bad people and I needed a metaphor.)
So I've decided that for my next job I'm gonna become a Profesional Twitch Streamer.
Look, this is actually a great idea. I'm stealing You Suck At Cooking's entire fuckin gimmick (at least the original gimmick, i think they are pretty decent by now.) I'm gonna become that meme that's like "the Olympics should always have one regular person in every event, so people understand how incredible the athletes really are." I'm gonna go out there and realistically suck hard.
Then everyone will watch my channel and be like, holy shit she is terrible, but then they'll go watch DGR and GrandPOOBear and all those guys and be like, wow these dudes are incredible how did I not notice how skilled they are. And people will be so much more impressed by them, because I'm out there being a human point of comparative context.
This is a guaranteed successful cash flow idea, no need to congratulate me for being a genius

Currently Reading #1
below are the books and manga that have caught eye or I’m re-reading while I wait for new episodes/chapters. Kappa by Ryunosuke Akutagawa. my youngest has been collecting all of authors named in Bungo Stray Dogs and really wanted me to read this. it took me a while to finally start but I have definitely had a few chuckles. slowly reading it as I’ve been reading this on my lunch break when I’m not working remotely. 7th Time Loop: The Villainess Enjoys a Carefree Life Married to Her Worst Enemy! I’ve been really enjoying this manga and I can’t wait to start the anime. the art is nice, characters are likable and I’m finding the story quite fun! The Accidental Heiress by doggo/Manta Comics. there’s a lot of manhwa that I’ve been enjoying lately but this is one that checks everything. cute art, good story, likable characters and I’ve re-read it at least twice three times before catching up on new episodes.

I feel like I've complained about Tim's email situation in Gotham Knights before (edit: I have), but the truth of it is just so funny.
He's signed up for so many podcasts, video game streamers, and random news alerts; it's just a constant barrage of data going straight into his constantly whirring brain. Hell, he even floats the idea of the Batfamily having their own podcast as a way to correct misinformation about them (which Jason shoots down instantly), and it's made me realize something.
Timothy Drake would be a YouTuber.
In this universe specifically, Timothy Jackson Drake, the heir to Drake Industries and the foster son of the late Bruce Wayne would be a YouTuber.
Think about it. It'd be the perfect cover. Who would ever suspect that some 16-year-old nepo baby with a YouTube channel could ever be Red Robin? You'd have to be mad. I mean, look at him.
Red Robin just dropped out of literal thin air and garotted someone four times his size, and you expect anyone to believe that's the same kid who does 24-hour Minecraft charity streams and occasionally drops 6-hour video essays (his last one was on Lex Luthor's illegal bit mining operation on the moon)?
That kid?
You think that kid is Red Robin?
Ch'yah, okay, sure. And the Joker is funny 🤡.

Namco deserves credit for popularizing the concept of controlling a single player within a soccer game, offering a more immersive experience focused on individual gameplay rather than managing an entire team. Even after more than 25 years since its arcade and PS1 release, LiberoGrande maintains a captivating atmosphere.
Despite its evident flaws and some limitations, the essence of effective teamwork and understanding your teammates' intentions remain incredibly exhilarating. The game provides a different perspective and emotional connection while playing. The sense of responsibility, of standing out within the team, drives the desire to contribute, perform at your best, and avoid letting down your teammates. A goal isn't just yours; it belongs to the team.
However, as I mentioned earlier, while LiberoGrande showcases an exceptional concept, it falls short of perfection, mainly due to its limited replay value. Completing the Arcade Mode or winning the International Cup might lead to repetitiveness, relying on similar strategies repeatedly.
The game struggles to evolve beyond certain gameplay patterns, such as consistent counterattacks and restricted ball maneuverability. Additionally, the AI's deficient defending even on harder levels, can limit prolonged engagement. Don't lose hope, though. Soon, we'll discover whether LiberoGrande 2 improved upon its predecessor's shortcomings or brought new dimensions to the concept...
Ps. Reflecting on my experience, I first encountered the ability to control a single player, rather than the entire team, in an early '90s Commodore 64 soccer game by the Italian company Simulmondo, titled 'I Play 3D Soccer.' How about you, retro folks? Have you encountered similar gameplay features in other soccer or team sports games before LiberoGrande?

It's weird I grew up playing a mixture of games but the RE franchise is my top beloved game series and unfortunately for me alot of the collectibles released was when I was a kiddo and 6 year old me couldn't up and tell my mom (who was a very conservative Christian at the time) "mom can I have this figure" cause she'd ask the big questions "where is it from?" "What is it?" Then I'd have to explain my big brothers let me play games I know she wouldn't let me touch with a ten foot pole.
For context I wasn't allowed to watch Nightmare Before Christmas until I was in Highschool, certain Disney movies were off limits till I was 16, fighting games were a Grey area when I was 13 the max I was capable of getting away with playing in front of her was pokemon and don't get me started on what she thought of anime.
But yeah even though I'm a huge fan of RE the max I was able to be proud to show off was my game collection and sadly I'm having to rebuild it since all of my games including the Gameboy color RE release was jacked during one of my college roommates parties while I was working needless to say I was very upset, but as an adult I can now spend my adult money on all the things I missed out getting my hands on as a kid.
Thankfully I have some wonderful friends that have ways of getting their hands on hard to get things so slowly but surely not only am I rebuilding my Resi Evil collection but I'm getting the merchandise I missed out on.
I'm also planning on making my own cute Resi Evil phone cases first one will be thanks to Shojohavoc's adorable Nivenfield stickers cause I love my boys🥰 I have to settle on what to put in the blank space though.

So there I was, strolling through dyspraxia tumblr and looking for relatable anecdotes to help me in my ongoing quest to answer the age-old question "Do I Have This Or Am I Just Bad At Being Corporeal" as one does
When I was suddenly introduced to the concept of visual novels
And as an old fuck* (complimentary, see also "George Carlin") I was pretty excited
Because Back In My Day™️ (the late 90s) there was, once upon a time for a very hot second there, a genre of video game called the FMV or Full-Motion Video game. This was a stunning new form of computer game animation wherein actual human actors were filmed by real cameras, the footage was converted to what amounted to a bitmap sprite, and inserted into the game world usually as a cutscene. They were all puzzle-based adventure games and they were the fucking tits my dudes. Sometimes you could still risk dying mid-game but that certainly wasn't the norm in my experience.
Like nobody talks about them so culture is slowly forgetting they exist but i remember
(I miss New San Fransisco. Tex Murphy was the fucking man.)
And I was like, fucking finally it's about time the fmv-style adventure game came back, I knew society would be ready one day for engaging games that don't require fast-twitch muscle responses and being shot at for fun
Ayway this is absolutely not what visual novels are. They're like the glorified flash Manga dating-sim games of my youth. Text based but over still imagery.
So that was a disappointment. I'm glad they have a market, obviously, and yay for people liking stuff!
But I guess maybe I'm using this opportunity to make the case for FMV-style adventure games. You younguns go do some research into the Tex Murphy games. Bring back time-limitless adventure puzzlers, where if I get the puzzle wrong it will kill me Indiana Jones style but nobody is actively trying to wax me off the planet's surface. Actually, maybe someone should make one.
We old fucks would play the hell out of it and love to support you.
Okay now get off my lawn.
