Evie's One Piece OC Compendium

SO @eustasskidsfattits asked me to make a post about my One Piece OCs, so here it is! I wanted to make this way sooner, but then stuff happened and then I got to show one of my friends OPLA and 8 OCs turned to 9 (oopsies...). Also, the perfectionist in me would not shut up. Yes, this is technically the intro for the three newest ones, so buckle up!

I'm gonna list them in the order that I created them, simply because listing them in the order of their appearance in the story would be fairly impossible with how OPLA likes to introduce characters earlier on lol - These OCs also all exist in their own separate universes, by the way...

So yeah, long post incoming and, for any OPLA-onlies reading this post: Spoiler warning!!!

The Guardian: Aether S. Luna

The original One Piece OC and also the one who has gone through the most changes. I revamped her only recently!

Luna is convinced that she's the daughter of the moon goddess aka of Mother Moon herself, and there are some very odd things about her that make that very plausible. She looks like how you would imagine the daughter of the moon to look like, with very pale skin and very light blonde hair, she has magical powers that are charged by basking in the moonlight, she needs very little sleep as long as the moon is out, her strength is based on the moon cycle... Oh, also: Wings. Large, white wings, that don't fit in with any other humanoid creature in the world. So, nobody really has any solid evidence against it either. Well... Nobody who hasn't been to Egghead Island.

She's introduced into the story at Long Ring Long Land (I actually have two fics for that) as a part of Foxy's crew because he won her in a Davy Back Fight. Before that, she was sort of aimlessly travelling the seas with various crews, just trying to find a place to belong. Throughout the Davy Back Fight, Luna ends up befriending the Straw Hats and Luffy, being Luffy, of course won't pass up the opportunity to have someone as weird as her on their crew, so she joins!

Sanji is, of course, very enamoured with this literal goddess. Even more so than usual. Luckily for him, his charm seems to be working on Luna too. She essentially goes from "Oh, you're adorable. You're funny." to "Oh. Oh no. That's the love of my life, isn't it?", at the very latest when she sees Sanji after he absolutely decimates the people on the Sea Train.

I can't really talk too much about her because a lot of my ideas for her are very visual, but I guess I could give some more little facts? First of all, Luna is 18 and her blood group is S. You can take a look at my animanga character sketches for her here and here if you want! Her wings haven't grown to their full size yet pre-timeskip, and she molts like a bird as she grows, so whenever that happens, she's essentially grounded and chronically exhausted. And that happens around the time of Sabaody. Perfect timing, right? Also, she has to preen her wings, especially after battles, and her crewmates keep around her feathers either for practical or sentimental reasons. And in case you were wondering, of course she heads to Whole Cake Island to go after her boyfriend. Big Mom takes an interest in her, Judge wants to steal her lineage factor, it's a very fun time for everyone involved.

The Sweet Tooth: Charlotte Inari

Ah yes, sweet little Inari. Inari is Pudding's twin sister, she's also a member of the Three-Eyed Tribe and she's named after inari-zushi (if you were wondering how she fits into the Charlotte Family naming scheme). She ate the Kami Kami no Mi, Model: Shikigami, which has a very complicated way to how it works, but, essentially, it binds her to a master whose orders she has to follow and, in turn, gets special abilities from based on her master's. That master is the person who last saved her life. The problem with that situation is that she got the devil fruit when she was still very young and travelling at sea with one of her siblings, and a sea battle ensued where chaos happened and she got herself kidnapped. So, she ends up being passed around from master to master for years until finally ending up with Enel. That is, until Luffy defeats him, and she joins the Straw Hats.

Inari, being that she spent her early formative years on Totto Land, has some very interesting ideas of what's considered normal for animals, plant life, people... for everything, really. She fights with two war fans (as well as her devil fruit, of course) and knows how to play the shamisen, both of which she picked up while travelling with a crew of Wano ancestry for a while. Also, she naturally has a huge sweet tooth and loves to make sweets too. It runs in her genes.

Inari's goal while travelling with the Straw Hats at first is to get back home. She's just a kid, she wants to go home, at least to let her family know that she's okay. And her family and her friends will totally get along, right??? That's also why she doesn't fully consider herself part of the Straw Hats for the longest time. She's a member of the Big Mom Pirates, simply by birth right. However, this all gets a bit thrown on its head with the Timeskip and everything after that. Because, during the timeskip, Kuma sends her to Totto Land, and she officially joins the Big Mom Pirates. So, she has everything she has ever wanted, right? Well... She still ends up coming back. She loves her friends too much not to go back to them. And then Luffy ends up starting a war with Big Mom, which is... not ideal? Whole Cake Island is especially fun. And Wano? Oh boy!

Also... remember the special ability of the Three-Eyed Tribe? Yeah. Inari awakens her third eye when she hears the Drums of Liberation, but nobody notices and she doesn't tell anybody until the battle is long over, and even then she only tells Sanji and Robin.

The Tailor: Akaito Coraline

My dear, sweet Cora... We're entering the live action era now! Aka when everything started to escalate and I started drowning in OCs. I freaking love the live action, man... Maybe a little too much.

Anyways, Cora! Cora is the last living member of the Akaito Clan, a tailoring family from the North Blue of world-class fame who was eradicated by Germa 66 when they didn't want to work for their evil plans. Their main identifier is a sewing needle pierced through the left ear, and they can tell a person's measurements just by looking at them. Of course, there are many imposters around because Akaito-made clothes sell for a fortune, but they usually fail at these criteria. Cora was only a baby when the attack from Germa happened, so she doesn't remember anything from that day or about her family, except for her mother, who was selected as the sole adult survivor of the massacre, because she had Cora, and Judge had plans for Cora. Little did Judge know that her mother also had plans for Cora, and that she had given the baby the Akaito Clan's most prized possession: The Sew Sew Fruit (Chiku Chiku no Mi), which gives its user mastery over the entire clothesmaking process and its tools and materials.

I don't want to get too much into Cora's backstory here, but she befriended Sanji and thought that he had died, and then her mother died, she helped create and designed the Raid Suits and then she ran away with the help of Reiju at 16 years old. Afterwards, she rose to considerable fame as a tailor in the East Blue, until finally stumbling across Sanji at Baratie, the same day that the Straw Hats also show up there. Shenanigans ensue.

I think, if I were going to describe Cora's personality in only three aspects, it's trauma, kindness, and a huge double crush that she doesn't like to admit. Because not only is she wholly unprepared for Sanji being not only alive but also a pretty and charming young man, there's also a swordsman who she has to stitch back together after a big fight and who she ends up falling head over heels for. The two boys constantly bickering doesn't help much either, and they also bicker over her, constantly trying to out-boyfriend each other. In case you were wondering whose side Cora usually takes in these fights, the answer is: She joins in on the side of entertainment. Whichever side would yield the funnier result. She just thinks their fights are way too funny and stupid. Also, she's constantly touch-starved and also scared of touch. And sleep-deprived. She gets better in the "scared of touch" category over the course of her journey with the Straw Hats, so... Sleepy cuddles. So many sleepy cuddles. If Zoro's taking a nap, she's taking a nap too, no buts. And Sanji eventually ends up with his arm around her waist 90% of the time. His personal space is also her personal space.

So, uh, fighting style! She uses a rapier and keeps explaining to people that, no, she's not a swordsman, she's a fencer. There's a difference. Also, she uses strings a lot, and plagiarizes Doffy's travelling method after Dressrosa. The thing with strings and dyes and whatnot is a whole new can of worms that I won't get into right now but it's super cool.

One more fun fact: Cora is short. She's tiny. And she wears heels to compensate, which Zoro hates because they're not practical at all. Her entire fashion sense gives him minor aggressions, partially because a lot of her clothes are a lot more fashion than function, partially because she looks too damn gorgeous in them and he's constantly reminded of his embarrassing crush and has gotten so distracted by her that he has walked into tables and doorframes multiple times. Sanji, on the other hand, fully supports her fashion choices. Maybe show a little more skin next time..? Pretty please? I have concept art for her and one of the more distracting outfits :)

The Scout: "Desert Fox" Felicity

The baby of the crew. Yeah, she's younger than Chopper. Inari is already young, being 14, but Lily? Lily is twelve. Absolute baby. How did she end up with the Straw Hats? Blame it on Buggy kidnapping her and then kidnapping the Straw Hats on top, letting them bust her out with them. Nami and Zoro pretty much become her caretakers on the spot, Nami consciously and Zoro... well... Turns out he has a bit of a soft spot for little scared kids with fox ears. They bring her back home to her "sister" Kaya at Syrup Village, but then she almost gets murdered by a killer butler, and Kaya asks them to take Lily with them, so... Well, she's with them now! Only about a few days later though, one of her caretakers gets himself almost killed and the other decides to abandon the crew. Good thing that Sanji has pretty much decided to adopt her, because otherwise she'd be crying her eyes out.

Lily is actually half mink! That's where she got her fennec fox features and some of her behavioural patterns (i.e. cuddliness, switching between napping and getting the zoomies...) from. But her behaviour could just as well be caused by her devil fruit, because she ate the Jōi Jōi no Mi, which gives her emotions magical properties. Which ones? No one knows! You'll find out when it happens. Pretty much the only really predictable effect back when Lily joins the crew is that she turns back into a nonverbal five-year-old when she gets too scared. She also has a pretty good success rate of turning into a more anthropomorphic fox creature when getting into the spirit for a battle. She's a mink after all, and minks are born fighters! And in case you're wondering: Yes, she does have electro! And sharp teeth. You do not want to make her upset. Best case scenario is that she bites you, worst case is either some magical shenanigans or she starts crying and her crewmates come to kick your ass.

I haven't developed her too much beyond the first season of OPLA, but I just know that she has to go absolutely feral at Alabasta, because that's a fennec fox's natural habitat and her epithet is "Desert Fox", so it only makes sense for her to get it at Alabasta. Also, it would be peak funny for Crocodile to complain to the Marines about a literal child messing up his plans, and peak funny is also peak One Piece, so you best believe I'll do it. Also, her being this young means I get to watch her grow up over the timeskip. I imagine she maybe gets sent to Zou and starts to really master her electro and devil fruit attacks? Something along the lines of "I'm all grown up now! I have my powers under control!" and then immediately turning back into a kindergartener in the face of danger would probably be her running gag post-TS. Also, I'm so soft for her relationship with Sanji. I could go on for ages about Whole Cake Island, but I'll leave it at that for now. This post is already getting long enough...

The Matron: Dracule Aurelia

Oh boy, you're not ready for her. She's the daughter of Rayleigh and Shakky. Trans queen (thanks, Iva). Raised as a Kuja, got love sickness just like her mother and fell for a red-headed idiot first, then for a certain swordsman. Ended up marrying the swordsman in the most dramatic way possible. Also maybe the second most beautiful woman in the world, after Boa Hancock of course.

Aurelia is essentially the fusion of a mafia boss, a mob wife, and an Ancient Roman patron. She has unbelievable amounts of money and an invisible net of connections that makes her almost untouchable. She's allied with Emperors, Warlords, kings and queens... Her main deal is providing smaller, more inexperienced pirate crews with her protection and support and getting their services in return, for example as soliders, for transportation... Whatever she needs at that moment. She can be as kind as she can be cruel, and people are generally both in awe and scared of her. Her epithet is "Black Widow" both because of her spider net of connections and because all of her lovers keep mysteriously dying as if through some sort of curse. Mihawk is the only one who has been able to resist that curse. Shanks doesn't count because Aurelia claims she never truly loved him.

One of the places under her protection is Baratie, and so she gets caught up in the Straw Hats' shenanigans. First, Nami asks her for help, then she returns to Arlong ransacking the place and essentially kidnapping Nami, then she finds out that Zoro was almost killed by her husband... Also, Sanji is the closest thing to a son that she has, so Sanji joining the Straw Hats is pretty much the final nail in the coffin to her deciding on her own terms that she's going to protect those kids to the best of her ability. You can kind of imagine her as the rich aunt, but a lot more deadly. Generally, she spends a majority in the story picking up her den den mushi and going "Luffy, what did you do this time?" The boy pretty much becomes her most effective portégé when it comes to expanding her territory, because he keeps punching tyrants and asking her to put the newly freed kingdoms under her protection. She also kicks ass at Marineford, of course, helps protect the Sunny during the timeskip, and becomes decorously unhinged when Whole Cake Island comes around because of her own personal history with Big Mom and "That's my son!" and "Luffy, you are not going to kill an Emperor." - so yeah, she pretty much has to follow the Straw Hats to Wano too, lest they get themselves kicked. She's both the queen of the literal universe and the exhausted mother of a crew of literal toddlers. Or. Well. Children and one supercharged toddler who will not stop causing chaos.

Her entire backstory is so freaking great. Growing up as a Kuja, running away from home because she's mad at her mother for leaving the Kuja tribe, her very first murder of a lover who also happened to be a nobleman, her bond with Iva and speedy hormone therapy, whatever the hell was going on between her and Shanks, her relationship with Mihawk, the whole situation with Big Mom and her rules for alliances, Mihawk literally fighting for her hand in marriage, her meeting Sanji and essentially adopting him... There's a lot going on. Wish I could write it one day.

The Mechanic: Lux Jirou

Lynx boi! Kuro tricked him into thinking he had Amber Lead Snydrome but it's actually just vitiligo. Used to be a member of the Black Cat Pirates (posing as the mansion's security guard) but liked Kaya a little too much and figured out Kuro was lying, so he teamed up with the Straw Hats to take him down. Also has the worst crush on Zoro and Zoro has the worst crushback, but they're both too stupid to figure it out. He goes by Jirou while with the Black Cat Pirates but starts going only by his last name Lux once he starts rebelling. Ends up joining the Heart Pirates and working as a mechanic on the Polar Tang.

Once again, so many of my ideas for him are more visual because... big kitty! Huge freaking paws! Cuddly cat naps! Involuntary purring because he has a crush and he's a cat and... Yeah. Also, he's absolutely thriving at Punk Hazard. Lots of snow? No problem! Lynx have built-in snow shoes. Also, his devil fruit (Neko Neko no Mi, Model: Lynx), much like the dinosaur SMILEs of the Beasts Pirates, works with Zoan logic. "Lynxes can walk on snow, so they can also walk on water, right? Since water is just frozen snow. And then maybe they can walk on air too if they train hard enough? Because of the humidity?"

The Siren: Kanyalani

Also known as Kan-chan, because Luffy is not pronouncing her full name. She's a betta fish mermaid and former slave and joined the Sun Pirates after being liberated. She has a romance with Jinbe which eventually turns into a polycule with the addition of Robin and Franky when they both join the Straw Hats. Kan-chan fights with chakrams and uses Merman Combat as well as some Fishman Karate.

Now for some mermaid characteristics: Since she's a betta fish mermaid, she shares betta fish characteristics. This means that she loves her color when she's unhappy and becomes more vibrant when she is happy. She also has a unique ability. Whereas all mermaids have beautiful voices, Kan-chan's singing can lull anyone to sleep, even in the midst of battle. Also, she's over thirty, so her tail is split, but she has trouble walking, so she practically never does it. She prefers using Bubbly Corals to navigate and claims that her very frilly fin makes for bad legs anyways.

The Archer: Shimotsuki Kaede

A Kuina look alike from Ebisu Town who nearly gives Zoro a heart attack when he sees her with her mask off for the first time. The concept for this OC basically came to me in the concept of many What Ifs. What if Kuina was still alive? What if Kuina was even more gender? What if there was a flying squirrel? What if someone pulled a Robin Hood on Orochi?

So, here's Kaede. Regular Ebisu Town citizen by day, dying and mending kimonos, stealing food and shooting arrows at people by night. As Ebisu Town gets the leftovers from the Flower Capital, this also includes the half-eaten SMILEs, and Kaede had the one-in-a-million luck of one of the SMILEs, finicky things that they are, still having traces of the power it once gave. And so, she got the power of the flying squirrel SMILE, making her the "devil fruit twin" of Bao Huang. She practices kyūdō in secret and almost runs an arrow through Orochi's head after Yasuie's execution. She would've hit the bastard too if someone hadn't hit her bow and made her miss.

The Soldier: Roronoa Sonoko

Ah yes, the reason why this post took me so long... She just appeared the moment I saw the scene in OPLA where Morgan tries to get Zoro to join the Marines. Because my brain went: Y'know, what if he actually had? So, I bring to you: Zoro's sister. No, not biological sister. They're siblings the way the ASL brothers are siblings. By exchanging sake cups. They got in trouble for stealing the sake and the cups but it was all worth it. What makes the situation even funnier is that Sonoko keeps on telling people that they're not biological siblings but nobody believes her because she's pretty much Zoro's spitting image. And it's her fault, too! Because she chooses to wear those earrings (more or less, but that's a bit of a longer story) and she chooses to dye her hair green! Yes, among the thousands of people with naturally funky hair colors, Kaede is pretty much the only one who actually dyes her hair.

So yeah, she's a Marine! Freshly promoted to Ensign when Koby and Helmeppo join and Garp's protégé. Her sword training comes from Bogard but she uses Two-Sword Style, so it's more her figuring out techniques and Bogard putting up with them. That is until Garp calls on Mihawk to go catch Luffy. Hawk Eyes comes to the ship to say that he decided not to do just that and Garp, as a payment for not reporting this to the World Government, asks Mihawk to take Sonoko on as a student. Mihawk, being Mihawk, is about to remind Garp that he does whatever he wants and doesn't need a deal like that. But then he sees the spitting image of Zoro in front of him and hears the same last name - and he changes his mind. Maybe it's worth a shot?

Following that, I don't have that many ideas except that Sonoko gets a bunch of promotions, only to go AWOL to warn Mihawk of the dismantling of the Warlords system during the Reverie because, at this point, she's far more loyal to him than to the Government or the Marines. She then completely deserts and dashes to Wano to help her brother and his crew defeat Kaido. In the process of the Raid on Onigashima (possibly while protecting either Hiyori or Zoro), she loses an arm and one of her swords and is just... overcome with guilt and shame. So much so that she can't bring herself to return to Mihawk after this incredible failure. Franky does replace her arm with a robotic one and everyone is super nice and supportive to her, the samurai step in and try to reason with her, but she's completely blinded by shame and anxiety. She keeps training, of course, she keepy going, but she just doesn't see herself as worthy anymore of being the student of the World's Greatest Swordsman. But then Mihawk himself shows up at Wano, looking specifically for her and tells her that she isn't a failure, that he's proud of her for her sacrifice for her cause and, most importantly of all, because she kept going. So, all is well and she joins the Cross Guild. Maybe befriends Cabaji, I dunno.

The Death of Doctor Strange #3 - Review

Apologies in advance for taking so long to write this, I had a crazy week. BUT we keep winning and that’s what matters.

Okay but first, I was reading the summary from last issue and it says Clea is a sorceress from the Purple Dimension, not the Dark Dimension? Probably a typo since in Jed’s interview, he said Clea was Dark Dimension’s SS.

Next we see what I already posted in the preview post: Stephen’s autopsy performed by Jane (💜). Also Stephen and Jane were not only involved with the lame Grim Reaper but also the actual personification of Death back in Valkyrie - Jane Foster #6-7.

I haven’t commented on this yet but I absolutely adore Thor addressing Clea as Lady Clea. Poor girl doesn’t even have a surname so I think it’s just fair (and very sweet of him).

Next, Stephen joins the Avengers and reveals that his soul was stolen and, for that reason, there can’t be a Sorcerer Supreme.

My thoughts on this are a bit controversial because... Chronologically speaking, Earth was without a Sorcerer Supreme for years before Stephen earned the title in Triumph & Torment. True, the Ancient One died and left his powers to Stephen before becoming one with the Universe and Eternity. BUT it doesn’t mean Stephen became Sorcerer Supreme after his demise. Besides, the Ancient One was brought back to life, which means his soul is not inhabiting the aether, as far as I can understand what aether means. Lastly, a Sorcerer Supreme doesn’t need their soul to return to the aether (or die?) for a next Sorcerer Supreme to rise. This would conflict with Jericho earning the mantle in New Avengers v2. Unless, of course, by aether, Jed means the mystic atmosphere/balance, regardless of people’s spirits. Ahh, more questions than answers, as usual, which is fine. Let’s move on.

Clea wonders why the warlords fled to Earth and Wong replies with a good reason. They know Earth is special because it has its heroes to defend it. Time and time again some stories highlight that there’s something special about this planet in the Marvel universe. Funny tho how Stephen doesn’t know Galactus yet. Bonus points for Wong mentioning Annihilus because while heroes were fighting each other in the Civil War, Richard Rider was there saving the galaxy against Annihilus so I appreciate the recognition, Wong 💜 (I know he was referring to the Fantastic Four as well but I had to point that out too ‘cause Rich, my beloved 💜).

Oh, this Stephen doesn’t know they [redacted]. The angst smh

Okay so neither Jed or Lee confirmed this moment was inspired on Master of the Mystic Arts #25, but they both liked my tweet. I’ve been waiting for the three of them to hold hands like that since this issue! I’m so glad!

Here Tony is probably making a reference to the tie-ins. London is probably the Black Knight/X-Men issue, while the Tiger Division will appear in White Fox. By the way, for those who don’t know White Fox, she’s one of the original characters created for Marvel Future Fight, along with Luna Snow, Crescent and Sharon Rogers. Aero, Swordmaster and Wave are also OCs from another Marvel game. They’re all well-established in the 616 universe ever since their debuts.

While the Avengers will solve the mystic threats, Clea, Wong and 60′s!Stephen will investigate the murderer. Clea sends Flibbertigibbet to find them. It reminded me of the fairies that lived in the Sanctum but I suppose this is a different spirit.

And now we head to the BEST part of this issue, the pinnacle of my existence ever since I started this blog. Crying over Cleaphen finally paid off! This is retribution for every wrong Mark Waid has done to them. This is retribution for Cullen Bunn ruining their marriage since Fearless Defenders. This is MY MOMENT, I’ve waited for this FOR YEARS jfc, THANK YOU, JED AND LEE. THANK YOU, I OWE YOU MY LIFE.

First of all, let’s start by fixing v5. Also I’m not crying, you are.

So it seems that, when Stephen died and his soul was stolen, Mephisto decided to make Clea suffer further and gave her memories back. He wanted her to suffer and be miserable. Well, this is Mephisto’s face when he realizes that giving Clea her memories back is the reason why they got back together:

YEAH, NO SHIT, STEPHEN. In his defense, it was also the writers’ fault. He did neglect her at some point, as I’ve explained in this post, but it was not intentional. Stephen has always, ALWAYS loved her more than anyone else. Maybe he did take her for granted but there was also A LOT in his mind.

And then... They... They... Kiss!!! *sobs*

I love this part. I love every single trait that Jed uses to portray Stephen. Because back in 2012, Stephen would totally take advantage on her because writers wanted him to be a dog and a jerk. He’s not like that. Stephen is a being of love. He may not love Clea yet but he believes in love. He’s righteous and virtuous. He’s kind and passionate. This is my Stephen.

It’s not ideal because, well, not regular!Stephen, but it’s a start. I do believe they’re going to go back together. It feels like closure, the way they talked and shared their feelings. I need this. I need Clea and Stephen to be happy. They’re both loners, they’re so much more when they’re together. They’re everything to me. They deserve to love and be loved.

Okay, so next Flibbertigibbet returns and tells them where the Eye of Agamotto and the Cloak of Levitation are. To no one’s surprise, they head to Castle Mordo.

I’ve seen some atrocities out there, like an article saying that Clea is the culprit because she didn’t send Flibbertigibbet to look for the murderer instead of the stolen artifacts. I have two answers for that.

First is, there can’t be a Sorcerer Supreme if Stephen’s soul is not back to the aether, right? But they NEED a Sorcerer Supreme, and thus they need the Cloak and the Eye. Those are fundamental artifacts to the Sorcerer Supreme. Not that they’re required, but they do help a lot.

Second reason is, what if the culprit is in another dimension? Say, if they’re actually Channok, as I first theorized back on my first review. Same goes for my second suspect, Silver Dagger.

So you see, they have two reasons to look for the artifacts first.

The last act shows two moments happening at the same time. While the Mothers invade the domain of Dagoth to offer him as food to the Child, we learn that Mordo, being the lame character we all know he is, sold his soul AGAIN for more power, this time relying on Umar, Dagoth, Aggamon and Tiboro. Stephen sensed it with his third eye and exposed his ass AS HE SHOULD.

And here we’re able to see Stephen going APESHIT. I don’t blame him, tho. I know Stephen doesn’t kill (usually) but he has done it before. I don’t believe he will do it this time but his words alone made Mordo shit his pants, and this moment is also everything to me because Mordo deserves nothing but being portrayed as a coward that he is.

HAHAHAHAHA I love this so much.

Lastly, I know the chapter left many questions. But my thoughts are: I don’t think Mordo did it. He could never, he’d brag about being the one who murdered the Sorcerer Supreme, as he’s been trying for ages. I believe he took advantadge on the Mothers’ assault and stole the artifacts (remember how the Cloak was still under Stephen’s body?)

Who did it then? I still think it was either Channok or Silver Dagger. Both have grim smiles and bad intentions. Besides, his hands were stolen. This is why Channok is my first option. Because the spell remade Stephen’s hands thanks to his library of forbidden spells, so maybe he wants retribution. Like a demon claiming a soul when the deal is due. But it could also be Silver Dagger using it as trophies or for some darker purpose. We’ll have to wait for now.

In My ＿ Era

When I saw this prompt for Day Three of the OC New Year's Challenge, I did a little reflecting. Emphasis on "little" because it came to me very quickly:

ONE PIECE Era!

Really, I've created three new One Piece OCs within the last four months alone. It's really fitting, because Luna - the very same Luna I talked about in yesterday's entry - was my first ever proper OC - and also my first One Piece Era/hyperfixation, and I revamped her only recently, Inari joined her sometime during my earlier Tumblr days, upon my second One Piece Era/hyperfixation, and with the arrival of the live action, I was firmly hyperfixated once more and in my One Piece Era, and I haven't left it ever since. So, I present to you all five of my current One Piece OCs, listed from left to right by the time of their creation.

Aether S. Luna, the "guardian angel" of the Straw Hats. Her crystalline shields and large wings have saved the little band of misfits countless times. Having travelled the seas since she can remember, she eventually ends up won by the Foxy Pirates, becoming part of the stakes during their fight against the Straw Hats. Of course, the Straw Hats (mainly Sanji), try their hardest to get her on their crew.

Charlotte Inari, the Straw Hats' lookout and errand girl. The complicated workings of her devil fruits like to toss her around a little, but she's fiercely loyal to her friends. Oh, and she also just so happens to be the daughter of one of the four Emperors of the Sea. Oh well... Surely, that won't cause any trouble.

Akaito Coraline, also known simply as Cora, the Straw Hats' tailor. The only living descendant of a world-famous family of tailors and a childhood friend of Sanji, Cora always carries three things: Her sewing needle, pierced through her ear. A dream to revive her family's legacy, making sure people remember the truth instead of the myths. And a burden on her mind, one that only Sanji seems to know, and neither of them like to share. Also, a crush on both Sanji and Zoro, but she would never admit that, would she?

Felicity, nicknamed Lily, is half human, half fennec fox mink, and honors a great deal of her vulpine ancestry. From being fairly nocturnal to becoming hyperactive (it's the zoomies, according to Usopp), from frequent naps and sleepy phases to a happily wagging, fluffy tail... Though then again, some of her mood swings might also be blamed on her devil fruit, its powers turning her emotions into... something. You never know.

My newest plot bunny, for now simply known as the "Black Widow", who was inspired by my history professor's tangent on the similarities between Ancient Roman patronage and the mafia. She's a spider with an invisible net of connections, her "friends", which include pirates from the old era, warlords, even emperors if you'll believe some sources. The Black Widow generously "adopts" younger, inexperienced or generally weaker pirates, dubbing them her "children" and offering them her protection - in return for some services, of course. Because friendship is a give and take. Some people claim she's incapable of love, some people claim that she's all talk and no game - but fact is that nobody has succeeded in killing her just yet, and her influence on the powers of the world is undeniable. No matter what you need - money, protection, men, weapons, or even a devil fruit - she can get it for you, for the small, small price of your undying loyalty. Those who have broken this vow all found themselves swimming with the fishes one way or another.

I Polish Up Real Nice - Luna

This is my entry for Day Two of the OC New Year's Challenge!

Luna Silvania Aether -> Aether S. Luna

Luna is my oldest OC. Yes, you heard that right. The first OC I ever created. She has gone through a lot of revamps over time (at first, she wasn't even a One Piece OC), and I'm proud to present you her final form. The metamorphosis is complete.

But if you think I'll tell you everything straight to your face, you don't know me well. I like to tease a little :)

In her former concept, she was supposed to be the potential last survivor of a species that originated from the moon, called the Moon Spirits. But then Wano came along, we got to Onigashima, and you might understand why that concept was no longer viable. But I had faith in Oda-sensei, and he presented me a toolkit for a solution only a few chapters later.

So, let me give you an outline and some hints:

Luna is the only one of her kind, the only daughter of Mother Moon, the goddess of the moon herself - or at least she's very convinced of it. Fact is that nobody can explain her powers, manifesting in the form of crystalline shields and beams of light, or how she can substitute bathing in the moonlight for sleep, not to mention her practically glowing eyes and large, angelic wings.

Is she really a demigoddess? Is she even from the moon? Well, with the hints in the moodboard and the help of her name, as well as knowledge of the reveals made within the Wano Arc and Egghead Island Arc, I think you might be able to figure some of it out :)

Luna, my beloved!!! Thank you so much for this!

1. What tattoos/piercings do they have? Which could you see them having?

She has a helix piercing - which was actually the inspiration for me to get my helix piercing! Otherwise, I could see her getting fairly subtle tattoos. Not ones with black ink but maybe a light blue, a similar color to her magic. If it could glow like her magic too, it would be perfect! Maybe some moon symbols or generally magic-related stuff, gems, stuff related to antiquity... Piercings-wise, she might get her earlobes pierced, maybe multiple times, but I don't see her having too many obvious piercings. You know what I could see though? Nipple piercings. I don't know why, I just think she might get them and Sanji would love it, let's be honest.

2. What's your favourite design detail about them?

Is it too boring for me to say that I love her wings? But I also love the cracks in her face. Beloved angst and magic shenanigans!

3. Can they dance? Do they like it?

Yes, she can dance and she loves it. Ballroom dancing, that is. Some things get a lot more difficult with her wings getting in the way, but she won't let that stop her.

4. What would they dress up as for Halloween?

A Greek goddess or an elf, either one of the two. Maybe Selene herself?

5. What do they smell like?

I imagine she probably has some kind of body lotion or wash that smells like milk and honey, and since she bathes often and/or uses her lotion often (after all, she has sensitive skin), she probably smells of it a lot. Also, sea salt. She's outside on a ship most of the time, so it would only make sense for her to smell like the sea too.

6. What color is associated with them?

A light turquoise-blue!

7. What song do they belt at the top of their lungs?

Barely any. But, like a true Straw Hat, she will go off on Binks' Sake/Binks's Rum.

8. What's their favourite style of music?

I'd say a soft jazz and sort of pagan folk style music. Also, harp/lyre songs, since...

9. Do they play any instruments?

... she plays the lyre! It only seemed fitting.

10. Are they more traditional or more progressive? Do they take pride in the culture they come from? Do they combine multiple cultures?

Ooooh, this is a tough question for Luna. I'd say she's more or less traditional, but, uh... She doesn't really have a culture she comes from? Luna is a singularity and she never had one culture that raised her. But she does stick to pirate traditions and likes things that we would consider traditional in our real life Western culture. But she's not opposed to more progressive ideas, especially not those of her crewmates. Culture-wise, well, she doesn't really have much of a culture, but she does take pride in her belief of being the daughter of the Moon Goddess.

Here’s a custom Q for you if you don’t mind! When you’re writing for your One Piece OC, do you tend to picture them most as Live Action, Anime, or Manga? Or perhaps a combination of the bunch?

If you tend to write/create them more geared towards one of the mediums, what might their adapted-to-another-medium alternate set look like?

Hi, thanks so much for your question! It seems I can answer asks normally on desktop, and I was thinking about this exact thing just now while working on my masterlist redux, so here we go:

It actually really depends on the OC! Both Luna and Inari were created when the Live Action wasn't even announced yet. They're also introduced in the story at a point that OPLA hasn't reached yet, so I never really thought a lot about how they would be presented in the Live Action when it came out. Cora and Lily were created specifically for the Live Action, so they don't even really have an anime-style counterpart. I haven't drawn one yet for either of them but I would love to some day. Aurelia, my newest darling, was originally supposed to be an anime girlie, but then I started imagining what part she might play in the live action, and now she exists in both worlds. Generally, when writing, I stick to the main canon of whichever media type I'm writing for, but I'll use the other version to fill in holes. For example, Cora's backstory is 100% based on late anime/manga events, and I wouldn't put it above myself to maybe sneak OPLA's earpiece den den mushi design into an anime/manga fic simply because it's cool and practical.

Anyways, when I picture my girls in my brain, here's what I see:

I view Luna as a sort of semi-realistic figure (because she wasn't a OP OC originally, it's a long story), somewhere between the anime's artstyle and, well, a normal human being. This is why it's incredibly hard for me to pick a potential faceclaim for her, because I have this set face in mind and nobody seems to really fit it perfectly. If I had to pick though, I'd probably go for either Joanna Vanderham, maybe Morfydd Clark, maybe potentially Samara Weaving. They all have details I don't 100% like and they would need to have way lighter hair, but they would work.

Inari I view as 100% anime style. It's hard for me to not see her as this cartoony anime girl with three huge blue eyes. But if I had to pick a faceclaim for her, my current pick would be Amanda Arcuri.

I'll skip over Cora and Lily here because I view them as their live action forms for obvious reasons, though Lily is still more cartoony in my brain simply because of her ears and tail. I definitely wanna draw both of them in anime/manga form one day!

Aurelia is a special case because she exists in both canons, but I see her as her live action variant most of the time. I don't 100% know why, maybe it's the leftover brainrot, maybe it's easier, but that's just how it works with me.

What can I say? - Special interests are a thing.

As per usual, everyone is listed with their age at their introduction into the storyline. The birth years are according to my calculations and approximations of when the story of One Piece takes place. For OPLA, we have a set date for the Syrup Village Arc - Kaya's birthday, which is August 24th! I used that date to figure out if a character had had their birthday yet that year and went from there. I've talked about this to @supermarine-silvally before, but I felt like this was something worth sharing with everyone, and that's:

I realized that all of my One Piece OCs have a very special relationship with Sanji, but they all have a very different relationship/dynamic with him.

Luna and Sanji are in a romantic relationship, yes, but it's a lot more mellow compared to Cora/Sanji - which is funny because animanga!Sanji is arguably a lot more over the top than opla!Sanji. But the main difference is that, while Cora joins in on Zoro and Sanji's bickering for her own entertainment, Luna is a huge calming and grounding force. Generally, Luna's relationship with Sanji is very based on the aspect of protection. Yes, Sanji protects Luna, but Luna also protects Sanji. Being a guardian angel is literally her thing. There's also the subtext of a goddess and her follower, which is a whole new thing to unpack.

Inari is essentially Sanji's little sister. Also, the entire WCI arc takes on a whole new dimension with Inari being Big Mom's daughter and Pudding being her twin sister. Until that point, she was close to delusional in her optimistic view on her family, but the whole thing is a huge eye opener, and both of them actually go through unwanted/scary changes to their body after the arc, so that's another parallel.

I already talked a bit about Cora, but the huge aspect that plays into their dynamic is, of course, their shared past, and (mainly) Cora's resulting trauma. Also, there's Zoro. Them being in a polyamorous relationship is a whole new aspect. You've heard of ZoSan bickering, now get ready for Cora adding her own teasing into the mix.

Is Lily another little sister figure? No. Sanji is pretty much Lily's dad. Like, the type of dad who loves his little daughter, thinks she can do no wrong and absolutely spoils her. Just like how Zeff just acquired custody over Sanji, Sanji just acquired custody over Lily because one of her former caretakers decided to almost die (Zoro) and the other decided to just leave (Nami).

And finally, Aurelia. Aurelia is Sanji's matron and mother figure. She came to Baratie, saw this child with mommy issues, and promptly decided to adopt him. If anyone dares hurt him, they had better make sure that they wrote down their will and think about their last words. Ever wondered how Sanji can afford his fancy suits and specific cigarette brands and whatnot? It's Aurelia. She loves to absolutely spoil him with gifts and Sanji basically just has to ask a little nicely and she'll give him money. Sanji sees a mother figure in Aurelia because she's actually caring and patient with him, and she's one of the few women that he actually allows himself to be vulnerable around.

5 for a character of your choice

Ooooh boy, character of my choice, huh? This should be a pretty short answer per character, so I'm doing lots of characters for this. First of all, K'Rala because I haven't gotten any asks for them yet. Second will be Anita because I just feel like it. And then, lastly, Luna and Inari, in honour of live action One Piece coming out tomorrow.

5. What do they smell like?

K'Rala doesn't really have a specific smell to them, I'd say. At least not to humans. Canonically, Vulcans have a really good sense of smell though and humans have a specific smell to them. So, I suppose K'Rala smells like a mixture of her different species' genes, whatever that may smell like. But aside from that, I imagine that, due to their strong sense of smell, they do their laundry more often than most people and, at the start of their shift, smell like laundry detergent. At the end of their shift, they might as well smell like coolant, charred wires and sweat with the amount of shenanigans the Enterprise gets into.

Now, Anita, when out with Easy, obviously smells like grass, dirt, sweat, awful rations and fake coffee. No soldier smells good if they've been sitting in foxholes and fighting. But if she has actual access to showers and good soap and stuff, she smells amazing. Not obnoxiously flowery, but there's maybe a hint of violets or the like. No wonder Don is all over her whenever he gets the chance.

Luna, being a pirate, obviously smells of the salty sea air 90% of the time. Aside from that, she smells like the bathing milk she uses since she bathes every day.

Inari is also a pirate, so: Sea salt! Aside from that, she probably smells like sweets. Not a specific kind of sweets, just any sweet.

This gives her plenty of chances to do things she was simply too late for in her original timeline or that went horribly wrong, including a fresh start on her relationship with a certain helmsman. Half terrestrial, half aquatic Tehiko, Raevyn is an excellent swimmer and has electrokinetic and telepathic abilities. Sometimes, they do her more harm than good.

Everyone's little sister, Eve is also responsible for letting Thomas interact with the Sides and for the mind palace - which can sometimes lead to her getting possessed by one of them if they need more control.

Indigo used to be a Pearl in Pink Diamond's court before her "shattering", during which she lost her owner. Upon being integrated into Blue Diamond's court, most of the pink hue was drained from her system, gaining her her signature indigo color. Due to her past of belonging to Pink, Blue kept her very close, keeping her as a second personal pearl. Wanting to take revenge for her original diamond's shattering, she ends up on Earth, becoming caught up in the Crystal Gem's business.

The Groggy Ring

aka how Luna joined the crew. I had to bend the Davy Back Fight rules a little to allow for double stakes so she could join.

Basking in his victory, Foxy stood upon the stage in a wide stance. Now, it was time for him to choose his spoils. Behind him, two of his crewmates started a drumroll.

“The first one I want is… YOU! The ship’s doctor, Tony Tony Chopper!”

Chopper froze in shock. He didn’t react at all until two Foxy Pirates grabbed him and started dragging him off to the stage. The moment he felt their hands on him, he started wriggling and struggling, trying to get free. Around him, the Foxy Pirates cheered loudly while his crew called his name behind him.

“Stop, you’re hurting him!” Luna shouted and tried to make her way through the crowd.

But Chopper was already to the stage where Foxy wrapped him in his arms and squeezed him until the little reindeer ran out of air, yet still managed to scream. Porche came running onto the stage, asking if she could hold him too. This prompted Foxy to throw Chopper into Porche’s arms. They were treating him like a pet, like a toy!

“Now, Doctor Chopper!” Foxy announced as Chopper was set down on a chair in the middle of the stage . “You’re one of us now, so you have to swear your loyalty to me! Put on this mask!”

Other Foxy Pirates came onto the stage to swarm their newest possession but they were blocked off by a pair of white wings. Swiftly, Luna swept Chopper off the chair and took off from the stage, landing on its roof.

“Stay away from him, you savages!” she called down, setting Chopper down next to her.

As soon as he was on his own two feet again and away from the smothering chaos, he burst out into tears.

“Guys!” he yelled out to his friends as the tears started crawling down his face. “I don’t want this! I started sailing with you guys! I only went out to sea because Luffy asked me! I don’t want to join these guys!”

That was when Zoro, who had been sitting and drinking with his back turned to the stage, slammed his bottle into the ground.

“Stop whining!” he shouted. “It’s disgraceful! It was your choice to go to sea, not anyone else’s. Whether you live or die, the choice was yours and now you have to live with it. We accepted the challenge and Usopp and the others tried their best. In the world of pirates, your tears will get you nowhere. If you’re a man, just sit tight and watch the game!”

“How could you say that!” Nami snapped at him. “Don’t you know how he feels?!”

But Chopper swallowed his tears, crossed his arms and sat down atop the roof with a determined expression. A soft smile spread across Luna’s face as the crowd roared with admiration for Zoro and Chopper. She sat down next to him, gently nudging him with her wing.

“You’re doing great, little one,” she said. “Or shouldn’t I call you that?”

“I’m a man!” Chopper announced proudly.

“Alright then, big man. I don’t think I’ve introduced myself properly. I’m Luna.”

“I know, Sanji has been talking about you.”

“Has he? How charming. He’s in the second round, isn’t he?”

“Yeah, he is. - Wait, I was in the second round!” Chopper gasped. “What happens now?”

“Nothing. Your team will consist of only two players. And they’re going up against the Groggy Monsters. It’s no coincidence that our captain chose to do double stakes for this game. If there’s one game the Foxy Pirates win by default, it’s this one.”

“Gather ‘round, everyone!” The commentator’s voice sounded from across the fair area. “Round 2 of the Davy Back Fight, the Groggy Ring, is about to begin!”

A large court had been painted out in the grass with two sides, each with a circle in the middle and a big lifebuoy at its end. Chopper stood up to look across the crowd. Just now, Zoro and Sanji were walking onto the court, bickering as always.

“Now,” the commentator continued, “I will announce the rules of the Groggy Ring! There is a goal on either side of the court! You win by throwing your ball into the enemy’s goal ring! But you won’t be using a regular ball, oh no! The ball will be a person! So first, every team has to pick one person to be the ball!”

“A ball as a person?” Chopper echoed.

Luna nodded. “That’s the way the game works. You know, I played in the Groggy Ring as the ball when my old crew went up against the Foxy Pirates.”

“Really? They must have had a tough time getting you in the goal. You could just fly away.”

“At first, yes. But once they had me, it was all over. Look at these scars.” She motioned to her left arm and right ankle where deep cuts had left their mark. “These are from the Groggy Ring.”

A shiver went down Chopper’s spine. “Oh no,” he mumbled. “With no doctor to handle their injuries…” But then he shook his head and put on his determined expression again. “No, they're strong. Sanji and Zoro will definitely win.”

Meanwhile, Sanji had had the ball marker placed on his head and was complaining about it to anyone in reach. That was when the commentator piped up again:

“What you’re hearing now is their entrance music… It’s our returning champions of the Groggy Ring!”

The mouth of the Sexy Foxy’s figurehead opened and moved downwards like an elevator. On it, three silhouettes appeared. The further the elevator moved down and the more became visible of them, the more Chopper’s jaw dropped.

“They’ve gone undefeated for hundreds of matches! The Groggy Monsters are now entering the field!”

They were all big. The smallest of them was already twice Zoro and Sanji’s size, the second double that and the third… The third was simply gigantic. Under loud cheers from their crewmates, they strutted into the ring.

“In the front, we have the four-footed dash freak Hamburg! Behind him is Pickles, the tackle machine! Standing at the rear we have the half fishman, half giant, Big Pan, the wotan! They’re literally the monsters of the Groggy Ring!”

“They put the ball mark on Big Pan!” Chopper shrieked, looking like he was about to pass out.

“That’s the first problem,” Luna said. “And Hamburg and Pickles are no joke either.” She sighed. “Do you still think Zoro and Sanji could win? Because I’d love to see those three monsters get beaten.”

But Chopper said nothing.

“Going up against our undefeated Groggy Monsters,” the commentator announced, “are: The one who eliminated our interference group with one kick, the ‘violent chef’ Sanji! His partner is the Pirate Hunter with a bounty of 60 million, Roronoa Zoro!” Then, after a while: “Our Groggy Monsters choose to ball first! The ball of the Straw Hat team will now go to the center of the opponent’s side!”

Zoro and Sanji were still fighting. By the looks of it, Sanji was refusing to be the ball man, pointing up at his newly acquired hat in annoyance. Meanwhile, the crowd was still cheering, yelling and shouting. Finally, they seemed to reach an agreement, though only through external influence. Once Zoro had been made aware of the no-weapons rule and given his swords away, the preparations were finally complete. Ever since the appearance of the Groggy Monsters, Chopper had been silent and motionless. So, Luna nudged him with her wing once more.

“Hey, Doctor, do you want to get a closer look? I can get you a front row seat in the air.”

Chopper looked over at Luna with large eyes, somehow still trying to keep up a tough persona. Then, he nodded. So, Luna got up from the roof, picked him up and flew off towards the court with Chopper in her arms. With the referee’s whistle, they reached its edge and the game began.

“GOAL! Goal! Goal! Goal!”

Immediately, Luffy and Usopp broke out into jubilee. Chopper cried with happiness and almost would have fallen out of Luna’s grasp if she hadn’t held him tighter.

“I can’t believe it,” she gasped. “They really did it! You have some amazing friends, Chopper.”

“They’re wonderful, right?” Chopper sobbed.

“Yeah… I wish I had friends like that…”

Only a few seconds later, the ending whistle sounded. Now, it was official. Down on the ground, the Straw Hats celebrated their victory, cheering loudly. Then, it was time for Luffy to pick his new crewmates. Luna landed on the stage with Chopper, shielding him off with her wings from a still very needy Porche.

“Who will the Straw Hats’ captain choose?!” the commentator shouted, flying above it all on his bird.

In front of the stage, the Foxy Pirates were all lined up as if waiting for their sentence.

“Okay,” Luffy said, “Chopper! Come on back!”

Chopper cheered and jumped to the sky in celebration. Then, he ran into Luffy’s arms.

“The Straw Hats have retrieved their doctor!” the commentator announced. “But who will their second pick be?”

Gently, Luffy put Chopper back down and started looking around the crowd.

“Wait, Luffy,” Nami interrupted. “The third match is a one-on-one and their player is their Captain. So, if we take him now, we’ll get an automatic third win.”

Immediately, the Foxy Pirates booed her and yelled insults at her, calling this peanut tactics. Never had anyone ever done something this disgraceful, they said.

“Nami’s right,” Robin commented. “But I don’t want Split-Head travelling with us.”

To this, the rest of her crew agreed. While the crowd was still busy complaining, Chopper tugged at Luffy’s clothes. Curious, Luffy squatted down and Chopper whispered something in his ear. To this, Luffy grinned.

“Alright!” Luffy shouted and stood up. “For my new crewmate, I want… LUNA!”

Luna’s eyes widened. Then, a smile spread across her face. She took off her mask and lifted herself off the stage, flying above the Foxy Pirates to her new crew. The Foxy Pirates lamented and called her name but she just smiled.

“Straw Hat Luffy has chosen Moon Child Luna,” the commentator’s voice travelled across the crowd, “an integral part of the Foxy Pirates’ defense system, sporting a bounty of 11 million! But will he be able to keep her? The next round is combat against our boss, the great Foxy the Silver Fox!”

“After this last round,” Luna said with a smile as she landed, “I’m not worried at all.” She turned to Luffy. “Thank you for getting me out of there, Captain. I hereby swear my loyalty to you. I won’t let you down.”

“I know,” Luffy grinned. “You took care of Chopper, so you can only be a great person.”

“Hey, Luna,” Usopp threw in, “do you know anything about fixing ships?”

“No, sadly not. But if you win the next round, you can get a shipwright.”

“We could, but the people in your old crew all seem like jerks,” Nami grumbled.

“That’s very true. … Come to think of it, the next island over is Water 7, the City of Water, known for its shipwrights. Maybe we could find someone there,” Luna suggested.

“Yeah, but we have to win first,” Zoro cut in.

“Luna-chwan!” Sanji cooed and whirled over to her. “I won just for you! Wasn’t I amazing?”

“You were wonderful,” Luna said with a grin. “The way you kicked Big Pan upright again… I thought I was dreaming!”

“Yeah, yeah, and what about me, huh?” Zoro sneered. “I was the one who put him in the goal ring.”

“After I got you up in the air and got rid of Pickles,” Sanji remarked.

“Oh yeah? I would’ve gotten him out of the way myself!”

“Alright, alright you two,” Luna said calmly. “It was a team effort. Now, why don’t we get you two patched up? Right, Doctor?”

“Right,” Chopper agreed, opening his backpack.
