How do I prepare for NEET Chemistry?
Amidst vast syllabus, approximately 1000 concepts and limited time, most aspirants devote their maximum time in either solving Physics questions or doing Biology chapters and overlook the equal importance of Chemistry in NEET exam. As a result of which, they often encounter challenges in solving questions in this subject which lead to low scores in the exam. Before this disinterest costs you, understand the importance of Chemistry in your preparation and learn what’s important and what’s not so important.
Tumblr media
For doing the complete preparation in Chemistry, take first steps with basics and detailed information.
Chemistry is divided in 3 forms for NEET preparation –
a) Physical Chemistry b) Organic Chemistry c) Inorganic Chemistry
Physical Chemistry
In comparison to other sections, Physical Chemistry contains more variations and theory based questions for numerical, which is not tough from the perspective of conceptual part. So, acquire the right approach and switch to the right set of books. Here’s the list of important chapters to cover –
i) Basic Concepts
Limiting Reagent
Mole concept
Empirical formula
Terms of concentration
ii) Structure of atom
Model of atoms – Bohr’s
De Broglie hypothesis
Quantum numbers
Heisenberg’s uncertainty principle
iii) States of Matter : Gases & Liquids
Gas Laws
Ideal Gas Equation
Density formula
Unit cells & lattices
Intermolecular forces – Van Der Waals Gas Equation
Packing fractions & ranks
iv) Equilibrium
Buffer solutions
Properties
pH Scale
Ions
Equilibrium constants & laws
Factors affecting Equilibria – Le Ch atelier’s principle
v) Thermodynamics
Summation
All laws of thermodynamics
Gibbs Energy & Spontaneity
Hess’s Law of Constant Heat
Entropy & Spontaneity
vi) Solutions
Vapour pressure
Osmosis & Osmotic Pressure
Raoult’s law, Van’t Hoff factor
Colligative Properties & Determination of Molar Mass
vii) Redox reactions
All types of redox reactions
viii) Chemical Kinetics
First order reaction
Half life of a reaction
Order of a reaction
Rate law
Molecularity of a reaction
Temperature Dependence of the Rate of a Reaction
ix) Surface Chemistry
Emulsions
Adsorption Isotherms
Colloids
Catalysis
Properties of Colloidal Solutions – Tyndall Effect
Organic Chemistry
Where most of the NEET aspirants consider this section tough, there this’s one of the most imperative and scoring sections in NEET exam. If you understand it well, you can score well. Therefore, begin with essential chapters included in this section.
i) Hydrocarbons Alkanes Alkenes & Alkynes ii) Classification & Nomenclature iii) Isomerism iv) General Organic Chemistry v) Practical & Environmental Chemistry vi) Biomolecules vii) Haloarenes & Phenols viii) Chemistry in action ix) Alcohol & Ether x) Carbonyl compounds xi) Carboxylic acid & its derivatives xii) Biomolecules & Polymers xiii) Haloalkanes xiv) Nitrogen containing compounds xv) Nitrogen compound & aliphatic amines
Now, some helpful tips to study Organic Chemistry in a result oriented way
a) Emphasis on understanding, rather than memorizing: - First thing you need to do to be master in OC is to understand the chapters. Without doing so, it’s worthless to memorize because you will lack the basic knowledge.
b) Reactions are important. So, practice: - Many students complain about their failed efforts to memorize the reactions. Whereas, it is not like that. For learning the reactions, focus on understanding them and do the constant practice.
Inorganic Chemistry
Unlike Physical Chemistry & Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry is more about concepts, reasoning and facts and constitutes chemical reactions, periodic table, s, p, d and f block elements, Coordination chemistry and chemical equilibrium. For doing full proof preparation, prepare a chart containing complete details about formulas and chemical reactions and revise every day. Along with this, keep solving questions from each chapter and do constant learning.

the Doctor Who ghost
Tumblr media
(i’ll just add a picture of the fourth doctor b/c this ghost is basically permanently in fourth doctor cosplay, due to the circumstances of his death)
Name: Tyndall Levin (1967-1990, age 23)
Cause of Death: Broken neck due to scarf caught in wheel of moving vehicle
Short Biography: An aspiring actor, uni student, and Doctor Who fanatic. After growing up with Doctor Who and being inspired by the heroism of the titular Doctor, Tyndall dreamed of portraying a future incarnation the Doctor, and inspiring generarions to come. However, his dreams were to be rendered unachievable in a freak accident involving a speeding car and the scarf he was wearing as part of his Fourth Doctor costume.
Current Location: Button House
Thoughts on the Ghosts
Pat: Pat and his kids loved watching Tom Baker back in the day. A kindred spirit!
Thomas: Owing to a series of ridiculous misunderstandings, Tyndall initially mistook Thomas for a real life incarnation of the Doctor and caused Thomas some trouble with his fanboying. Might bond with Thomas over a mutual love for Shakespeare and the theatre.
(Haven’t really got the time to write how they’d interact with the other ghosts at the moment)
Special Ghost Powers: His scarf is partially corporeal - it can be physically felt by living people. Think you’ve tripped on air? Nope, it’s Tyndall’s scarf. Later he discovers he can also share his scarf with living humans.
Friends sitcom character: Insists on being ‘The Doctor’, whoever that character is.
Appearance: A tall bloke, at least six feet tall, in Fourth Doctor costume complete with a full length scarf that he made by himself. One end of the scarf appears to have been violently shredded. The part of the scarf winding around his neck is stained with dried blood.
Other info: Tyndall doesn’t know anything about New Who owing to having died in 1990. He doesn’t know about Paul McGann’s movie, or the fact Jon Pertwee (actor who portrayed the Third Doctor) is dead.
Tyndall also thinks of being a (ghost) showrunner, and is brimming with ideas for new Doctor Who series and how to use the show to inspire and empower as many people as possible.
He’s also kind of a fashion nut, especially regarding the clothes that the Fourth Doctor wears. Despite the fact he died due to a scarf, he has an obsession with scarves.
His other main interests aside from Who are the theatre, classic literature, and clothes.

are there any fics that you Absolutely Recommend? like, ones that you think everyone in the fandom should read?
okay let’s go. imma do the fic rec thing.
this ask has made me realize that i need to start bookmarking the fics that i read that i really like, because hunting these down was a nightmare and i know there’s others that should be here that i just! can’t! remember!
a feeling’s not a thing you own by anonymous - thomas is depressed. things kind of spiral downwards from there. basically my favorite fic series in existence, makes me feel a multitude of emotions every time i reread it. impeccable characterization!! horrifying implications!!! the best side oc i have ever seen!!! i keep meaning to draw stuff for it, i will do that soon hopefully.
Love And Other Fairytales by SoDoRoses - LAMP. wonderful WONDERFUL modern fairytale AU. i adore fairytales and folklore to no end and this just... nails it, 100%. best worldbuilding, best OCs, best boys. i know it’s kind of a Fandom Classic at this point and there is a reason. very long! very worth it.
also Chaos Theory and Tyndall Effect also by SoDoRoses (Analogical and Dukeceit, respectively) which are set in this gorgeously composed urban fantasy universe that i absolutely vibe with. ft. mad(gic) scientist logan and What The Fuck Are These Romantic Feelings remus.
with no you at all (i’m incomplete) by anonymous - LAMPT mess of pining and emotions, also made me feel MANY emotions. gorgeous and wonderful and unstoppable and excellent and EVERY very good enthusiastic adjective in existence. the ending made me cry real tears!
Self Love by parallelmonsoon - i drew that thing for this, remember? thomas gets serious with self-care and spends some time with everyone and it’s so good. it’s so SO good and i adore every bit of it. gorgeous characterization, fluff so sweet you will cry, Unexpected Feelings that will also make you cry.
Idle Threats by Greenninjagal (and the sequel) - implied background LAMP. (written a while ago so jan’s name is dee here) dee has a bad time in primary school, logan is the Best Substitute Teacher. as someone who did not have a great time in primary school this made me feel many things
Bother Me A Little Longer by patentpending - Moceit. Patton and Janus get married. and divorced. and married. and divorced and it just keeps happening and it’s absolutely hilarious and beautifully written. ft. logan as the very exasperated divorce attorney/voice of reason. oh yes also it’s canonverse, which makes it a million times better in every way
lavender for luck by lovelylogans - LAMP! more modern-with-magic, apparently a fusion with something called Practical Magic but i don’t know it and i still loved it. virgil has a family curse and it sucks, and also he has a lot of cats which sucks less. i need to reread this one because it’s been a while but i remember how much i love it overwhelmingly.
Missing the Breaks by Cartwheellou - pre-AA fic!! thomas, anxiety, logic and creativity go on a walk. and nearly die. extremely good.

@chairman-chow Aaaa thank you! I personally love family headcanons, they’re such a guilty pleasure of mine (and I’m so attached to these OCs bc most of them I’ve had for YEARS)
I have a bunch of them uhhhhh let me put this OC crash course under a cut real quick
Well there’s the Navy OCs first of all!
There’s Glen Harmon and Columbus Woodside, both older father-figure types who were Havelock’s sort-of mentors in his younger years (esp Glen). Havelock was considering joining the Navy for a while before he actually enlisted, but it was Glen who sort of nudged him in the right direction after a sort of happenstance meeting by the Wrenhaven.
Then there’s Joseph Woodrow, who joins the Navy around the same time as Havelock. They end up becoming pretty fast friends and stay joined at the hip up until the Plague Crisis, when they lose contact with one another. If they’d stayed in contact, Joseph probably would’ve helped Havelock with the Loyalist Conspiracy, but as it stands neither knows the other’s fate. (Joseph does get to stick around for Pirate AU though, even though that’s pretty bittersweet considering Pirate AU is considerably high chaos.)
Then beyond that there’s Leland Peasegood and Bertram Tyndall, who I actually haven’t developed as much as my other Navy OCs but they’re Good Boys™.
When it comes to family, after the Insurrection, Havelock meets my OC, Moira O’Farrell! Moira is a seamstress who grew up on a Morlish farm with her family, but couldn’t do a lot of the heavy work while living there due to childhood illnesses and then developing lupus in her early teens (and fibromyalgia in her late teens/early 20s). She and her family relocated to Dunwall after the Insurrection, just shortly before famine was officially declared in Morley, and she and Havelock met while she was making deliveries to sailors and dock workers. She and Havelock court for a while, marry in 1804, and have their first kid in early/mid 1805! Their second kid is born in 1808, and they have no more children after that.
Their kids are Jasper and Matthias (in order of age). Jasper is an adventurous kid who gets into a lot of trouble with his parents and grandparents because he loves getting into everything he possibly can (they all love him to bits for it, though). Matthias is a lot more quiet and withdrawn, and it’s his brother who usually drags him into stuff once they’re old enough to start getting into things.
Jasper is taken at 10 by the Overseers to undergo the Trials of Aptitude (yep, he’s that Jasper), and Matthias grows up and becomes a whaler.
Moira also has a sister, Sian. Sian and Havelock don’t get along at all—Sian was pressed into the Morlish military during the Insurrection (their culture is a little more relaxed when it comes to women in what’s usually considered traditional “men’s” roles), so she and Havelock fought on opposing sides. They’ve both Seen Some Shit™, and have opposing views when it comes to Morlish independence. The only reason she and Havelock are civil towards each other is because Sian is worried about her sister, and she’d rather deal with Havelock and be there for her little sister than turn her back on Moira and make her feel isolated with a man Sian doesn’t like or trust. Havelock does prove himself to be a good husband (or at least tries to be), so Sian trusts him a little more over time, but she still does not like him in the least, and the feeling is mutual.
I also decided to flesh out Havelock’s family history a tiny bit??? His parents are from the north of Gristol (where I headcanon that most people speak Nordish, aka German—whooo German!Havelock). His mother, Isolde, came from a middle-class family, and his father, Fabian, was a whaler who came from a long line of whalers and fishers, and was working class. They entered a relationship, which was a bit of a No-No, then Isolde got pregnant with baby Farley and had to have a quick wedding so that she wouldn’t birth him out of wedlock (she and Fabian were planning on eloping anyway), which was a HUGE No-No, so Isolde ended up being disowned by her family. They relocated to Dunwall a few months before baby Farley was born, after they got married, and pretty much lived the rest of their lives there.
They also had Theodore, Havelock’s little brother, when Havelock was 7. They tried for more kids after that, but like Havelock and Moira, they weren’t able to have any more. (In Moira’s case, it was miscarriages; in Isolde’s, it was stillbirths. Havelock children tend to come in twos.)
Uhhhhh this post is getting long already so! I’m sorry for talking your ear off I’m just Really Really Excited about my OCs!
