getting real sick of the cycle of I find a makeup product I like, it doesn't come in a colour I need, it gets discontinued, all similar options that might not even work as well are twice the price

#i want more nyx liquid suede lipsticks but they discontinued them....the only liquid lipstick that doesnt make my lips feel like desert mud #aaaand I thought I could get p louise paint in black for an eyeliner that is less sensory awful as gel to cover my dumbass hooded eyes #but turns out they only made a black as a prototype that ended up being cancelled they just havent taken it out of the swatch pics. ffs

This look was super easy. Only four products, took around five minutes to do. No one saw my lipstick bc I wore a mask (this was for my staple removal at my post op appointment), but I still enjoyed matching it to my eyeliner. Hey R. C., unless I'm confusing you with someone else -- did you used to have a master list of all your favorite (red) lipsticks? Search function is operating as usual, which is to say, not at all, and my go-to fave was recently discontinued 😭 any chance you could help a girl out?

Nope, that was me! But it's been quite some time since I posted about lipstick, so thank you for giving me a reason. For anyone new around here, I wear lipstick every single day. Even when I'm not going to be seeing anyone. It's just part of my face now. So, it's safe to say that I definitely have some opinions when it comes to lipstick.

This is by no means a comprehensive list, so if you have any recs of your own, please leave them in the replies!

R.C.'s Lipstick Recs for 2023

Best in Show: Beauty Bakerie

I haven't made my love and devotion for this brand a secret. 99% of the lipstick I've worn over the last 10 years has been Beauty Bakerie's lip whips. These liquid mattes are the end all be all, as far as I'm concerned. If you apply them correctly and let them dry down (using a hair dryer on the cool shot setting will set your lipstick in record time!), you'll get upwards of 12-15 hours of insanely pigmented wear—even after eating the greasiest of foods, and you won't feel like you're wearing anything at all. My best time was 19 hours before it started flaking.

Best red: Mon Cheri

Best non-red: Gingersnap (my new favorite since I dyed my hair forest green)

Best Non-Liquid Matte: NARS Velvet Matte Pencil

If it's been hours and my Mon Cheri lip whip is starting to disappear around the inside of my mouth, I immediately use my NARS Velvet Matte Pencil in the shade Mysterious Red (a perfect match) to tide me over. The NARS pencil is a beautifully pigmented, long-lasting matte that isn't drying and doesn't tend to bleed or feather.

Best red: Mysterious Red or Cruella

Best non-red: Promiscuous

Best Non-Matte: Smashbox Be Legendary Prime & Plush

I was bopping around Ulta one day (as one does) when I happened to see this on display. It swatched so beautifully on my wrist that I couldn't leave without it. Plus I had some Ulta points, which made the price tag a little easier to bear. It's an incredibly luxurious lipstick, but be careful of how soft it is: it can break easily. This is one you should apply with a brush.

Best red: Bawse

Best High End: Lancome L'Absolu Rouge

I had some Macy's Money to burn and I decided to splurge a little. This isn't a cheap lipstick. At $35, it's one of the priciest lippies I've ever treated myself to (I'm a cheap bitch, what can I say). But, as the saying goes, you get what you pay for, and what you pay for is a beautifully moisturizing lipstick with incredible color payoff. Also it smells really nice.

Best red: Rouge Badaboum

Best Drugstore Liquid Matte: Maybelline SuperStay Matte Ink

Completely out of character for me, but I was actually looking for a bright 80s pink when I decided to give this a whirl. I was so impressed with the color payoff and the staying power that I went back and bought it in a red shade. Be warned: despite its longevity, it's a very sticky matte. I have pretty good luck drying it down with the blow dryer, but it takes time and patience. It will get less sticky the longer you wear it.

Best red: Exhilirator

Best non-red: Romantic

Best Drugstore Non-Liquid Matte: NYX Suede Matte

I used to be crazy about NYX's Full Throttle mattes back in the day, but I think they were discontinued, which is a shame. The Suede Matte isn't quite as long-lasting as the Full Throttle was, but it's a beautifully pigmented and non-drying matte. And for $7.99, you really can't complain. I would wear this with a lip pencil to help prevent feathering.

Best red: Spicy

Best Drugstore Non-Matte: Maybelline Color Sensational Made For All

Okay, I confess: I only bought it because I was in CVS and needed to spend a certain amount of money to use a coupon, but I was pleasantly surprised! I don't really wear this one, but I did think it was beautiful when I put it on. You can be the judge.

Best red: Crimson Race

Best Lipstain: ColourPOP Fresh Kiss Glossy Stain

Lipstick is applied as a layer on top of the lips, but lipstains are meant to be absorbed by the lips so the color lasts longer. I don't tend to wear stains, but I really like how they look on other people. I've only tried a few, but the best one I found was ColourPOP's (with Fenty's Poutsicle coming in at a close second). I'm a sucker for ColourPOP's packaging and they were so cute in Target that I couldn't resist.

Best red: Cherry Up

Not creepy at all , I love answering questions ! I've also provided links and pictures below just incase anyone wants to buy these products !

If I just wanna moisturise my lips, I use the 'Elf Cosmetics Squeeze Me Glow Moisturising Lip Balm'. I have it in strawberry since it matches my skin tone the best ! The website has pictures of how the different shades look on different skin tones. As for my lip combo (lip liner and lipstick included) I use the 'NYX Suede Matte Lip Liner' in the shade 'Alabama' and I use the 'NYX Lingerie XXL Matte Liquid Lipstick' in the shade 'Peach Flirt'. I hope this helps !

Price/ Preço: $4,80 - 12,00.

Pros: I really love this lipstick, besides the good price, the color is vibrant and lasts well. Cons: is that if your lips are dry, the lipstick will look a little "cracked" and your lips will be even drier, as it has a Matte effect.

Pros: Eu realmente amo esse batom, além do bom preço a cor é vibrante e tem uma duracão boa. Contra: é que se seus labios estiverem ressecados, o batom ficará um pouco "craquelado" e seus labios ainda mais secos, pois ele é efeito é Matte.

Ps.: The lighting wasn't very good :')

i have been DYING to talk about lipstick with you all day!!!!

i praise nyx a lot BUT for lipsticks no one does it better fr !!!! my favourite red of all time is from them and called snow white. their push up lingerie lipsticks double as lipliners and also have a slight tingly plumping effect. my favourite shade is after hours which is a gorgeous maroonish brown <3 another of my go to lippies is their soft matte lip cream in the shade transylvania - not a pigmented full lipstick, but for that bruised smudgy vamp look it’s perfect. they also make a GREAT black lipstick which is liquid suede in the shade alien.

i own a few KVD lippies too that i’ve had for years from sales or gotten as gifts bc they’re wildly expensive :/ but some shades i love are lolita II, madrid, and a grey one where the name has rubbed off lol.

sephora’s own brand has some really good lipsticks, i love their black, and their dark red.

finally essence cosmetics have surprisingly great lipsticks and are definitely the cheapest around. i recommend their long lasting lipsticks in curious and naive, as well as their hydra matte in mauve-ment.

some misc lippies i adore are buxom bold matte gel lipstick in vampy plum, and nyx butter gloss in red velvet and devils food cake - these are so pigmented you can use them as stains <3

My best advice is, don't follow trends, stick to what works perfectly with your skin, meaning formulas that don't age you prematurely and that look good on you. Also, don't get caught up in brands, you can find excellent products in a more affordable range too just make sure you always check ingredients and that whatever you choose works in perfect harmony with your tones and skin type.

Oh, and given the heatwaves all over the world, less is definitely more, stick to products that make you feel good and go very light with make-up, focus more on SPF and hydrating your skin.

I noticed Trixie had this in her recent declutter video and Daya also used this in a makeup tutorial so I figured I'd make a post about it

It's Nyx Liquid Suede and I s2g the shade was called Electroshock but apparently that's the name for its bullet formula sister, this product is actually in the shade Respect The Pink

I'm not the biggest fan of the Nyx Liquid Suede formula, my favourite liquid lipstick is made by a different brand, but I'm able to make this one work if I use lipliner

I bought this one bc someone on Instagram suggested I do a look inspired by PetScop, and I've swatched this and tried it out, but I still haven't done a PetScop look and I still haven't used this lipstick for a look

I will have to check it out!!! I just looked it up and I didn't know that some places here actually carry that brand so I'll give it a looksie!!! I used to use the NYX liquid suede ones but then they got discontinued 😐 they also discontinued my favourite eyeliner... any need 😭
