Be here now. Call yourself into this moment. Breathe. The thing about nostalgia is that it always looks better than how it actually was...looking back we forget the weight, the loneliness, the time spent wondering. We forget. We start to create a story. But the truth gets skewed when we step away from our nowness. Our awareness is shifted from "what is" to "what was or might have been or whatever happened to"... depression, anxiety and guilt set in. But we aren't actually there, in the past...we never are. The only place that we can ever exist in is NOW. All that time spent looking back is time spent robbing ourselves of the present. So the moment you bring your mind to meet your body...here, now...that's the moment you can truly see what is. And nostalgia just becomes an old game that isn't entertaining anymore. And the present becomes an open sea of possibilities. And you realize your old self and your new self are the same person, recreated. It was a very decent negative low-tide today, and while Ali Baba isn’t allowed off leash yet or allowed to romp with other dogs, I took him for a low-tide walk today since the beach was so big, assuming we wouldn’t have any problem avoiding other dogs. And I was right, and it was so good for both of us, as I love the beach as much as he does. I mentioned last week that I've read a few books dealing with loss. #NowIsEverything was one of them. Not only that but it tackles another tough subject matter- abuse. Told from past and present perspectives you read about Hadley's life with her family before a tragic airplane crash and the consequences that follow it. There were parts that were rough to go through, but I think Amy Giles did a good job tackling them. I really felt for Hadley and rooted for her through it all, and admired the hell out of her for not breaking under so much pressure.
