Call Me Shepherd

So, if you are reading this, you either stumbled upon it by incredible accident or you know me and what to see what this Nova Shepherd thing is all about. Either way, welcome to my new blog about my youth ministry journey in Nova Scotia. So here is the quick and dirty version of what is going on, God called me back into ministry a couple of years ago by having friends affirm my calling to be a youth pastor, and that kicked off going back to school, (Tyndale to be exact, I finished my degree in May of 2022) and then God put a calling to go east from Ontario in my family and my heart, which eventually lead to Nova Scotia and in particular to my wife, daughters and I buying a house in a beautiful little community named Glace Bay. (I can't forget our dog Chase too, who happily rode 4 days in the back of our Jeep Compass for the move) Now as I write this I still don't officially have a job yet, (although I am meeting with the head of a youth program in a couple of hours to hopefully fix that but, this is where God has called nonetheless) So, saying all that, why is this Blog called Nova Shepherd you might ask, (or you don't, I have no clue how curious you are as a person) so let me tell you. Over the last twenty years or so I have done a lot of youth ministry, even as a volunteer youth pastor, and recently at the church I was attending it was almost second nature to call the people who were on staff as Pastor, before saying their name, such as my friend and mentor Pastor Kareem which the teens all call PK for short. So this led to me taking the title of Shepherd with the younger kids of the group, partly because I didn't want people to call me the short form of Pastor Peter, (PP, agh, the memories of being taunted with as a kid) and since my greatest spiritual gifting is Shepherding, I asked the kids to call me Shepherd instead, and I will be truthful, I liked it, (there is also a tie into my favorite TV show Firefly that also makes me smile, if you know you know, and if you don't, watch the show, it is great) So, this comes back the title of this whole blog and all, and why I call this Nova Shepherd? Well, first of it is a play on words, which I am fond of, being called to Nova Scotia which means New Scotland, and starting this journey as a fresh slate with no one really knowing me in the province, I have decided to embrace my Sheep Guy calling and have actually been introducing myself to people as Shepherd, crazy, I know, but it feels right, (Nova Scotia, Nova Shepherd, it makes sense in my head at least) So, I am a new shepherd, trying to lead a whole new flock of young people to a life with Jesus, and if you're game, you can come along, as I will post thoughts and updates through text and videos here about this nova adventure I am on, (see what I did there with the Nova and the New, words are fun) So, if you see me make sure to come say hi, and call me Shepherd.

So instead of just lumping all the of the young MCU heroes together into the young avengers (bad, incorrect idea) I have a proposal (good, correct idea open to suggestions):

1. A Champions mini series of 6 or 8 episodes consisting of Ms Marvel and Peter Parker (I know he’s not a champion in the comics but we need to do something with him and the group could use an older “authority” figure [aka college kid keeping track of the babies]). As new characters we introduce Nova and Miles Morales. They fight a minor villain and come together as a team, end the series with the looming threat of Kang

2. A Young Avengers mini series of 6 or 8 episodes consisting of Eli, Billy, Tommy, Cassie and Kate (again as the college kid pay for/keeping track of things). As a new character we introduce Teddy (finally). They fight a minor villain and come together as a team. Towards the end Nathanial Richards shows up begging for help in the fight against Kang

3. Avengers Next Generation (insert better movie title here) both teams are trying to track down Kang. The Champions are lead to the Young Avengers by mistake(?!) they VERY BRIEFLY think they're on opposite sides but by the 30 minute mark without much damage they realize they're on the same side. Peter makes a quip about them working out the issues without destroying an airport. They fight Kang, its is revealed that Nathanial is the younger version of Kang and formed the team to stop him future self (the Champion's source leading the Young Avengers was right all along!) They beat Kang (maybe Nathanial kills him?) but Nathanial goes into a rage in the process leading him down the path to becoming Kang

I frickin' did it. I did all 31 days of #Doggust2023 in one day. (Under 4 hours!)

Because I only had 4 hours to work, each drawing took about 5-7 minutes each so that I could meet the deadline. So, this became more like an intensive art assignment than anything.

But I did it! I won!! (Some better than others, but a definite improvement throughout the full challenge.)

Each image has a description that gives a brief idea of my thought and design process for this challenge as the minutes ticked by. (So maybe you should click on them, I dunno...)

idk if you’ve answered this before in which case please do ignore this but do you imagine the Riley family with any pets?

ik the fandom (me) loves pairing Simon with a germán shepherd and that’s adorable but idk if their house is big enough for 3 growing kids, that giant of a man and a big dog so my gut says they have a cat that just prefers to trip everyone up.

They're a dog family but they do have stray cat that wanders around they're house. So they named her vanilla (cause she's all white with tow brown spots on her but) They tried rescuing a cat before but it turned out that the cat was tagged, So Nova (who was seven at the time), Had a melt down and they ended up getting a Rottweiler puppy who was malnourished (ppl with rescue dogs pls stand !!!!!!! all my dogs are rescues ! except for our new baby :) )

And to Nova's nature it wasn't a cat and It wasn't the cat the cat they had for a week that she was already getting attached to. Simon gave him his shots and fed him formula (he was only two weeks when they (the animal shelter) found him), That's his boy!

His name is Theodore but Simon calls him Teddy for short, he's and Inside and outside dog. Sleeps inside his pen in the back room, and likes to be outside during the day! He's a very good boy.
