hey it's the anon who asked what dr*m did,

I decided to do my own research (mainly cause I was curious) but... I can't find much? let me rephrase it - I did find the allegations from 6ish months ago, that he's going to court with one(?) of them, but that's... all? I didn't find the court's verdict, confirmations, or him admitting either... and any post or video I find has both the OP and the comments mostly on his side and believing that it's either not true or true but not grooming, even people who say they're not his fans or don't even like him.

so Im not sure if the confirmation didn't reach youtube or if I'm searching wrong or something?

but honestly while researching I realized that I cant stand him lmao, gotta agree with some comments I read - he made a mistake by showing more of his personality online, looks like any time he can handle a situation wrong/respond wrong he does it

Also I think most of the threads on Twitter and stuff that have all the proof he's guilty/etc is probably long buried, unfortunately. You could probably try to ask around saying you're trying to get the whole picture but tbh it's not a huge deal if you can't. You can try searching my blog but Tumblr sucks with that shit. The fact that this and his other controversies have been buried and lost to the void of the internet is typical white boy with a monstrously big platform shit so I'm not surprised. I never heard any details about court (prob for legal reasons) or a conviction either. All I know is there was screenshot proof from the victim that they talked, and Dr*m confirmed the screenshots were real but didn't say anything about other details. But those details literally can't be false if the screenshots & the shit said in them are true.

Anyway, as far as his other bullshit goes:

People found old kkk meme edits on his yt account through the wayback machine. More than once if I'm not mistaken

He has a history of defending himself using the r slur

He cheated "on accident" in a speedrun (the least important thing ever but everyone always brings it up)

He claimed he was going to donate all proceeds during pride month to lgbt+ charities & he'd do charity streams all month but never did

He defended himself about replying to haters, which would send thousands of his toxic stans after the person getting them doxxed/death threats/etc and he refused to address that it was irresponsible of him bc he was too entitled to immaturely clap back at the antis. Even other ccs, like B/itzel called him out about shit related to how he uses his platform irresponsibly & he unfollowed & shaded them like a bitch baby

The whole "accidental" copycat shit with QSMP/USMP and basically softcore stalking Q/uackity online.

His "apologies" for all of the above fucking sucked in multiple ways. And that's just 2021-Now shit I can remember off the top of my head, I lost my Twitter in May last year so now I get my info from people's posts about it on here or links to tweets.

Everyone largely suspects he spontaneously reignited d/smp lore & started the finale to cover up the groomer thing bc he has a history of doing smth "new and cool" every time he causes drama to divert attention and avoid accountability.

He's also suspected of suddenly rewriting the d/smp finale to paint his Irredeemable Abuser Villain Up Until The Last Stream as a sympathetic poor baby out of nowhere and wrote that his victim, c!Tommy apologized to him, which sends a HORRIBLE message about abusive relationships. T/ommy and T/ubbo have both subtly mentioned not liking the finale and that Dr*m had AWFUL communication during the last like 6+ months of the smp.

He also suddenly showed up in T/ubbo's chat lurking while T/ubbo happened to be mentioning he'd do his own research on the grooming situation instead of blindly siding with Dr*m and it was some shit out of a horror movie is2g, he suddenly dmed T/ubbo out of nowhere during it on discord saying they'd talk about it after T/ubbo wasn't streaming. Basically sounds like he was gonna bias T/ubbo about his innocence. Like he hadn't been in chat all stream long but SUDDENLY he was there the second the topic came up. But the d/smp ccs also can't say anything about the situation since it's a legal matter, so a handful of ccs have just stated/implied they don't support him other ways

He only quit MCC bc he threw a tantrum about how he couldn't practice for it but now that MCC island exists, people were getting better than him. He's habitually a sore loser about that kinda shit

He's got that whole weird "is he, isn't he" bullshit going on about him being lgbt. I personally think he's just catering to his stupid d/n/f shippers bc they like to truth their relationship & sexuality all the time and he's never explicitly said he's bi or smth. He's just vaguely been like "yeeeaahhhh I mostly like girls like 99% but maaaayyybeee I like guys idkkkk. 🤪" But he's also done that multiple times so who tf knows. I'm not gonna fully dismiss him & I understand no one including me is entitled to his specific sexuality, but he has garbage credibility on like everything so I'm neutral on the matter and find it hard to believe him

Not directly him related, but his stans went on a long and horrifying witch hunt on Twitter during the kkk ordeal doxxing, death threatening & harassing ENTIRE mcyt subtwts who spoke out against him and called him out on his racism, performative activism, shitty apology, etc. For example, I was part of S/neeg's subtwt and all my mutuals and me had to go private to avoid getting doxxed. It felt like being raided in some dystopian ass horror film. Entire subtwts were going private, panicking, paranoid they'd get outed & stalked & harassed by people just for condemning racism, raising Black voices, etc. It was borderline traumatic to some people, I know people who lost sleep over it bc they were so afraid.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head but the end of 2021 to early 2022 was a fucking nightmare between him being an immature entitled piece of shit and his stans blindly defending him and going out of their way to endanger people who rightfully opposed him.

No, I don’t think it was planned, and if it was, it was done really poorly.

I’m all for queer rep, especially wlw bc that seems to be less common in mainstream ya/new adult. And I appreciate that SJM is clearly trying to make her books more diverse as of ACOWAR. Butttt the way it was done with Mor is iffy with me for a few reasons.

1. To preface this, there’s no timer on when you have to come out. People should do it whenever they feel comfortable. The thing is, Mor has been in the closet for five hundred years, which feels...incredibly tragic. This also really makes the reader question the inner circle as a family/support system. BC of their tangled history it’s been established that the group as a whole is a little dysfunctional, especially between the whole mor/cass/az dynamic but extending to Rhys as well.

But beyond that, the fact that Mor hasn’t felt comfortable or safe enough to come out to her closest friends not only makes me question how close the IC truly are, but also highlights the homophobia of parts of Prythian, specifically Hewn City where Mor grew up. TBH I’m guessing this wasn’t intentional and more a side effect of the choice to change Mor’s sexuality when people started asking for better rep.

A side note to that: The fact that Az is still pining over Mor also really adds some interesting connotations to his character. Either he’s not that great of a spymaster - I have a hard time believing you wouldn’t get some context clues over the course of 500 years - or he’s incredibly, incredibly hung up on Mor and can’t let her go despite knowing she’ll never be interested.

2. Mor’s story so far as a queer person is, as I stated, tragic. She’s raised in a world where she’s told her worth is limited to how well she can marry and produce heirs. When she rebels from that notion, more trauma and abuse. During the war, she finally finds love, only to lose her once the Wall is put up. By the time she finds a way through, it’s too late. From there, she’s in the closet for 500 years, only having scattered lovers. She’s still incredibly haunted by Eris, and its implied that he’s a big part of the reason she’s still in the closet.

The thing is - Mor is one of our only lgbt+ characters in ACOTAR. The only other two I can think of are Helion and Thesan. I do like Helion, but he tends to lean into a lot of bisexual stereotypes with his love of threesomes and sex. His romantic history is also fraught with tragedy. There’s nothing necessarily wrong with this type of character - but when you only have a few lgbt characters, it just doesn’t sit well with me to have one of them be so stereotypical when it comes to aspects of their sexuality.

Thesan is involved pretty minimally, his love interest isn’t even named. So our lgbt+ rep in ACOTAR is a traumatized, closeted woman, a stereotypical, slightly tragic bisexual, and a minor gay character. The issue extends beyond Mor - the rep is lacking and limiting. Mor was such a meaningful character to me when the books first came out, and I would have been over the moon to see her as a happy, out woman.

This all being said, I hope her love story is handled well and with care in the next few books. I want to see her happy so badly!

Second, could you elaborate on the "analysing as YA" vs "analysing as an adult" approach? I assumed that "discourse people" on this website generally don't go beyond "antagonist is bad because they are against the hero!" out of ignorance/lack of interest except to score Internet Fame Points, not that it was due a specific mindest. I also don't really read YA (except Tiffany Aching)

THAT SAID, well your discourse people point is pretty much part of it but since I’m here and I can rant have the entire thing I was too tired to hash yesterday ;) so, in order:

first thing, we need to establish that ya books and **adult** books generally have different target audiences which is fine and good because obviously if you want to write a thing you’ll do that for An Audience That You Have In Mind; this doesn’t mean that adults can’t read ya or that teenagers can’t read **adult books** because everyone can read what they want (and personally for one I never cared for ya in my entire life not even when I was the target audience), but it simply means that some books are meant to be liked by one category first and eventual others later and they need to be talked about in that specific context first and everything else later - then there might be books that are aimed for kids/young readers or sold like that or that can be read on more than one level which can be appreciated for different things later in time (for example I read huck finn at sixteen and I absolutely loved it but it was a book that here is seen as good reading material also for eight year olds, and at eight I wouldn’t have liked it for the reasons I did at sixteen, and if I read it now I would still like it, while a bunch of the books for kids I read when I was seven is stuff I enjoyed then but forgot now and probably was good for that age but didn’t stick with me);

second thing, that means that when I discuss a young adult book aimed at teenagers I will never hold it to the standards I would hold a book aimed at a general adult audience, especially if it’s the kind of ya like dunno as stated the vampire diaries aimed at teenage girls which is obviously the kind where you have the fantasy world with the hot dark guy who swoons the high schooler protagonist off her feet etc because that stuff is basic teenage girl fantasy 101 and like... I’ll expect a bunch of romance tropes, the usual push and pull, the guy eventually being into her, the protagonist being someone a fourteen year-old can see herself in, probably a few sexual elements thrown here and there and so on, because that’s the shit marketed at fourteen year-olds who want to read that and like... it’s really not that deep. I can’t ask the vampire diaries to be moby dick because it’s not meant to be. or, if I read percy j/ackson - which is another thing I have zero interest in but I know about because I see tweets from the author - I expect to have a bunch of teens coming into their own coming from different backgrounds because the author wants to represent properly a lot of categories so most of his readers can have someone they can see themselves in and like if a thirteen year-old who suspects being lgbt or whatever sees themselves in the gay kid from per/cy jackson guess what that’s what that book is for, so I won’t judge it on like... being a faithful representation of greek myths or how good the style is or whatever, because even if to me it’s not top notch writing or has a plot idc about it has to be for teenagers and pre-teens, not for me, a thirty year old who again didn’t even like pre-teen aimed literature when she was a pre-teen;

third, I can extra clarify it using the damned hp discourse, as in: when I say I’m tired of people not reading anything else or reading everything like hp, it means that they read it when they were growing up/were teens and it was aimed at them which is fine, but then twenty fucking years later when the people in question are way beyond their twenties (guys I’m almost 32 and I remember when the first one came out come on) when talking about any single piece of media in existence (movies, comics, other books) use hp characters/situations as the terms of paragon - like guys I had to read sn/ape comparisons with theon and ky/lo ren on the basis that THEY’RE GREY CHARACTERS as if sn/ape is the only grey character that ever existed, people keep on talking about vold/emort as the only bad guy that ever existed and so on, and like... you can’t talk about, idk, asoiaf or any book aimed at an adult audience like you’d talk about hp, because at this point I wouldn’t be surprised if I read comparisons between sn/ape and ivan karamazov and I think I don’t need to specify how completely nonsensical that would be;

now, with all of this explained, what I mean is: ya in general - which is not a fault per se of the genre since it’s aimed at teens and pre-teens - tends to have... very fixed narrative schemes depending on which teens it’s addressing - like, stuff like tvd or twilight is obviously the romance teenage girl fantasy where you have the girl fighting to be with the dark beautiful supernatural creature in question, per/cy jackson is more like I’ll give you a bunch of relatable characters having cool adventures against bad guys with the occasional redemption so we can see that people are redeemable but you still have right vs wrong, hp is sort of like that in the sense you get relatable-ish protagonist with relatable friends growing up throughout the entire thing and fighting on the good side vs the evil side including the usual death of the mentor plus people who seemed bad actually not being bad™ except that PJ has more povs and better rep from what I gather but that’s not the point so it’s basically the growing up journey for the young protagonist(s) the kid sees themselves in, then there’s stuff like hunger games where you actually have the dystopian worldbuilding just written to be enjoyable by younger people who don’t want to get too depressed (and ngl I haven’t read the books but I’ve seen the first two movies and guys the way everyone ignores the classist commentary in thg to discuss the love triangle is... a staple of the problem tbh) but still try to introduce deeper themes and have more nuanced characters and at the same time are still written to be enjoyed maybe by the more adult side of the target, and at the same time I can’t say that thg is the same as 1984 when it comes to target audience because 1984 doesn’t make the ugly dystopian themes more accessible using the love story/teenage protagonist etc;

at this point the problem is: if you only ever read ya and nothing else in your life (which is what a lot of people here do - guys again when I got here in 2011 if people didn’t discuss hp they discussed john gr/een, the only *adult*-aimed book I see discussed on tumblr is asoiaf... because of got X°DDD) then you end up seeing every other piece of literature expecting what you do out of a young adult and then you expect adult literature out of young adults/ya to approach certain implications the way an adult novel would, which is... frankly ridiculous;

specific examples: I see blogs which are principally about like ya fantasy books ie acotar or shadow/hunters or whatever shitting on grrm because AAAAH HE’S PROBLEMATIC/MISOGYNIST/HE HAS VIOLENCE AND RAPE IN THE BOOKS BLAH BLAH and like... spoilers: if I wrote a fantasy series aimed at fourteen year-olds who want their fantasy romance with the hot dark guy who is maybe a tiny bit problematic but turns their leaf for them I would hold back on blood and violence, if I wrote a fantasy for adults where I want to be realistic about misogyny I will not, and the fact that grrm gets judged on what happens and not how he writes it (and again, saying that a guy who has 1/3rd of his pov characters female except that it’s actually 50/50 because there are no throwaway povs except for mel while guys have a lot more of them and all the female povs have narrative weight [and mel has it before she gets one] and all of them have a different personality and he also has the same trope [brienne and arya] in two people with wildly different personalities and needs which is basically a goddamned miracle is a misogynist because there’s misogyny in his fantasy world is ridiculous imvho) which is.... exactly expecting of asoiaf what you’d expect out of acotar, when grrm and acotar’s writer write for wildly different audiences. now, if I had read acotar at 15 and asoiaf at 15 I’d have had no doubt re asoiaf being more my thing because again the subgenre acotar goes for is not my thing because I never related to that fantasy while brienne is my rep, but in general a 14yo girl who likes the acotar-like stuff will not care for grrm.... which is normal because grrm writes for adults of both genders, not teenage girls (I mean teenage boys also have their own subgenres for which the same rules are valid), and someone who likes percy jackson (aimed at both genders but like... pre-teens early teens) who doesn’t gaf for grrm won’t because it’s not aimed at them unless they like grrm for other reasons ie idk they realize that they relate to jon snow idk but you see my point, so like tldr that’s what I mean with if you only read ya you’ll expect adult writers to handle their themes like ya writers would and like... sorry but if I write stuff for adults I won’t feel the need to specify that the bad guy is B A D with neon lights because an adult should grasp that from the narrative, I don’t need to make sure it’s obvious bc it’s aimed at kids;

reverse: when I see people saying ‘the vampire diaries is problematic because it’s about people who are a hundred years old preying on teenage girls so we need to stop teenage girls from reading that kind of thing because it makes them think it’s okay to go with someone that much older than them’, we’re at the opposite problem in the sense that you’re asking a young adult novel what you would ask of AN ADULT NOVEL when there’s no point in it. like, a teenage girl knows perfectly that damon salvatore doesn’t exist and vampires don’t exist and werewolves don’t exist - the entire point of tvd is that she gets to fawn over the hot supernatural dude who changes for the better thanks to the female protagonist she most likely sees herself in and she gets to have a few nice fantasies about that which is like... normal for people who are developing their sexualities, most people wouldn’t actually want damon salvatore the way he’s exactly in canon irl because they know it’s a fantasy and so it should stay. like, sorry but as someone who watched the show because ian somerhalder is hot in her twenties and tried the first book and gave it up at page 30 because I couldn’t do it, I can 100% assure anyone that the biggest issues with tvd books are that the writing is really fucking bad (for my standards at least), with the tvd show that from S4 the writing spiraled downwards and no one wanted the magical vampire pregnancy witch twins ridiculousness, but none of the content actually was shit that anyone would take seriously like that and I wouldn’t expect tvd to approach that subject realistically. if I read a vampire book aimed at adults who actually wants to write such a relationship as creepy WELL YES OF COURSE I’D EXPECT IT TO BE OBVIOUS ABOUT IT BEING CREEPY, but if it’s aimed at freaking teenagers... it’s a fantasy and not really that deep, take it for what it is and let teenage girls enjoy thinking about smooching damon salvatore (or stefan or whoever) without assuming they need to be protected from Horrible Vampire Fiction™, same as no one goes bitching about unrealistic sex scenes in serialized romance books because people read them because they’re unrealistic and escapism, not because they expect nobel prize worthy exploration of themes from them;

now, ^^^^^^ would not happen if people actually read variedly and studied some decent lit analysis in school - but like, after I had to read I think at some point that of mice and men is ableist... THAT’S the damned point - with ya you can take a lot of the plot at face value, with adult lit you can’t and you have to see motivation beyond the action of the characters and you can’t do that if you only read books aimed at pre-teens/teenagers where obviously that’s... more spelled out than it would be in a book aimed at an adult audience;

that by the way also means wildly missing actual adult themes discussion in ya, because again, I haven’t read thg but from the two movies I’ve seen it’s fucking obvious that the whole thing is an anti us-classism commentary from how the districts are built to how the games are rigged to pretty much everything in the worldbuilding, but all the discourse I see on tumblr is about either the love triangle or katniss being miscast or president snow being a jerk and whatever else, but I never once saw anyone saying ‘heeeeey the people in katniss’ district are an in your face metaphor of poor people in the us of a belonging to certain categories while the first few districts are absolutely the 1% and the entire point of it is that she wants to tell you A CLASSIST SOCIETY IS BAD AND WILL LEAD TO REVOLUTIONS’, which to me was... like, glaring, it was literally what 90% of the entire thing was about and no one ever discusses it in a fandom-wide sense (I mean... I saw a bunch of hg posts back when the movies came out, I never saw this brought out), which... is a problem because it means that the moment people are put in front of a ya product that actually tackles that kind of issue.... they go and worry about the love triangle (which seemed to me the excuse to draw the people in the story) not about the social commentary, and like, maybe a twelve year-old won’t catch on the social commentary, a twenty-year old especially from the us should, and I don’t see that happening;

and sorry but that is because if you only engage with content aimed at a younger audience than your target first you assume that every piece of literature should be consumable/readable/enjoyable by a younger audience (and sorry but no, some of us don’t want to write stuff making sure teenagers like it) and then ask of actual ya media to cater to their *adult* needs and not to the needs of the target audience because wow obviously if you’re 25 you won’t want out of literature what you wanted at fourteen;

and this also is valid for children’s media because again, I’m cutting it short, but adults watching st/even universe and sending people death threats because they don’t agree with their opinion of a cartoon aimed at an audience that’s at moooostttt eight years old is a thing that shouldn’t even fucking exist, and if you think steven/universe is that important at an adult age you need to re-assess your priorities;

tldr: adults should not expect media aimed at kids/teens to cater to their interests and shouldn’t analyze it the way they’d analyze a piece of media aimed at an adult audience and should not presume that every piece of media should have the scope/schemes of medias aimed at kids/teens because some of us don’t want to read that.

now, I’ll leave you with a nice short anecdote which hopefully will further clarify what I mean and add to another point which would be, kids and teens don’t give a fuck about what you, an adult, do: when everyone was in a frenzy about my little pony back in 2013 or so I had to see a ton of posts like ‘AAAAAH MEN/BOYS WHO ARE INTO MLP ARE STEALING THE SHOW FROM YOUNG GIRLS HOW DARE THEY ENJOY IT WE NEED TO KICK THEM OUT’ with added people saying that a ten year old male kid who tried to kill himself bc his friends bullied him bc he liked mlp deserved it and the likes, my only thought was that... when I was 8-10 in elementary school and was actually the target for cartoons and stuff, sailor moon was the rage between all girls my age me included, we’d spend recess playing pretend (and I’d get stuck playing sailor mars bc no one wanted her, sad) and our hugest first world problem in existence was that we needed technically a mamoru and of course no self-respecting boy in elementary school would have admitted under death threats to watching sailor moon because it was a girls’ thing (aaaaah gender roles in the early-mid 90s, how fun) so everyone despaired because ofc no one wanted to play mamoru... and the few times any guy actually showed up like HEEEEY I WANNA DO IT BUT PLEASE DON’T TELL MY FRIENDS I LIKE SAILOR MOON we’d all be like OMG YOU’RE OUR NEW FAVORITE PERSON PLEASE YOUR SECRET IS SAFE because we couldn’t believe we found the magical boy™ who wanted to do it, and if anyone had told us that the kid in question was stealing sailor moon from us we’d have laughed in their face.

kids don’t ask of media what you, an adult do, and it’s unfair of you, an adult, to ask children’s/ya media to cater to your damned interests, which are amply catered to by the tons of adult literature around which also forces you to push on your views and read more challenging things and to not read/watch stuff at face value, which is why I would really appreciate it if the amount of 20yo people on here who I consider adults engaged with more adult media and let themselves be challenged instead of just going back to ya/kids’ things, which are good for teens and kids and can be enjoyed by everyone but should not be the only goddamned genre you measure all other literature against because then you get people saying that lolita is pro-pedo when it’s exactly the goddamned contrary, but if you think that pov character = protagonist = good guy (which is... staple kids/ya stuff for obvious reasons) then you decide that humbert humbert is someone you’re supposed to root for. too bad that you’re not and the author was an actual csa victim so it’s a completely ridiculous reading that wouldn’t happen if you didn’t read lolita the way you read hp.

so my biggest thing, is with the MXTX antis/MDZS wank/MXTX wank. is like....god it FRUSTRATES me so fckn much lmfao in so many ways and on so many levels. like listen. I’m not saying there isn’t stuff to critique in MDZS. But there’s people who are first off: critiquing the writing quality, when I’m like “there’s like a 90% chance you’re reading the EN translation, and probably from ExR, and honestly I know it’s not fandom etiquette to critique fan content bc we’re all doing this for free out of passion, BUT I do, in fact, have some major issues with ExR’s translation quality, and also I lowkey feel like they have a strong traditional yaoi bias and sometimes it leaks through in how they handle certain things.” Big mood of this twitter thread about how when you’re reading in TL you can’t be criticizing the writing bc you’re already reading it filtered and like. you gotta consider things like the TL’s own personal biases or takes, etc. Which I feel like some people don’t in their critique, or at least they don’t take the time to acknowledge it and instead start spinning off into more and more impassioned reactions to perceived slights or faults.

The other thing is like. I admit when I first read MDZS - which I did while simultaneously watching bc I was kind of using CQL as a vehicle to get into MDZS, I had the HARDEST time trying to read ExR’s translation when I was going into it cold many many many moods ago rip - I was also squicked out by the explicit scenes shown. It did remind me a lot of traditional yaoi tropes, and I wasn’t into it. HOWEVER I was also a psych major, and I want to point out that the T/N’s do read to me as having a strong yaoi bias, and also before ExR redid their site they had large “SERVING YAOI AND BL” banners on EVERY page lol. And I think that also primes people to see things a certain way. (I just. am :/ about ExR also bc like... their whole vibe as a “yaoi scanlator” and also I. can’t be sure the TL wasn’t 17 when they were tl’ing it lmfao,, and they did the whole rant - which fine they apologized for, but I think sort of reflects on a general attitude still w/ the team - about how some other TL had bad quality or something, but their existing TL has a lot of clunky English phrasing and actually a lot of editing issues, too, I was creating myself a back-up copy from their site and like google docs was already catching a bunch of typos and tense issues and such :’) and that’s beyond clunky EN translation phrasing. I just am like. they have a patreon lol, so I can’t say ExR is doing it wholly not-for-profit/dollars, and also like... it’s not like they’re licensed? I get that within scanlation circles, there’s an etiquette of “first come first serve,” but with translation, I think fans are only served with more translations? but I also care about the original work lol, I mean I get the vanity of “I want MINE to be the AUTHORITATIVE tl” bc I feel that mood too, but also I’m like. fam you didn’t bid for a license lmao.)

But yeah like. My petty gripes with ExR aside lmfao, I think when you look at WangXian, the whole “it’s yaoi tropes” gets really strawman. Like from a Watsonian perspective, I mean like... both WWX and LWJ really ARE useless virgins, lol, WWX’s first kiss was stolen by LWJ and his whole idea of sex comes from porn; LWJ is GusuLan and like. yeah. Who is teaching them about lube? certainly not porn. (but this also gets into the whole. like people saying explicit material is “problematic” because it doesn’t show “realistic” sex and I’m like. fam it’s smut, not a sex manual.) And like... they’re both kinky and WWX has a pregnancy kink, and like... good for them I guess?

From a more Doylist perspective..... I think for me, I’m like. well why not? gay media doesn’t have to be uwu to be “Valid,” and like, the people who start attacking mxtx personally because of the way she chose to write WangXian, or saying she’s homophobic because of WangXian or she doesn’t have the range... I already Know they didn’t read TGCF or SV lol. (and yeah SV is more “problematic” but I also think it’s VERY genre aware and both satirizes and also plays with and subverts some of the typical genre “problematic” things. not everything, but like. again the whole idea that non-mainstream media needs to be held to a higher standard to not be cancelled? I don’t hold by that). [But more on the Doylist thing: it’s dumb to me that people react like it’s a moral failing of non-straight works if they don’t fit EXACTLY their personal idea of what a thing should be. And this comes up EVERY time there’s some new thing. hell it’s not even just lgbt-related stuff; Hamilton, Crazy Rich Asians, etc all had nitpicking. Which again, isn’t invalid! but also like. :/ because we DON’T have enough representation right now to pick, and my take is always: the solution is to get to the point where we can pick and choose and can afford to have bad media just like the straights/whites do :’)]

The thing about WWX and LWJ is neither of them, as they’re written in canon, fit within “traditional yaoi” seme/uke stereotypes. The kiss I see people rail against as “dubcon” and also their sex scenes but I’m like. yeah I think it’s fine to say it’s not your cup of tea but to say that that makes them traditional yaoi rapey tropes I’m like. Fam that’s not it lol. LWJ is shown as being SO incredibly responsive and attentive to WWX’s wishes and desires. I mean that’s examples of his passion exploding out, but we consistently see LWJ being respectful of WWX’s wishes and autonomy even when it like. fucks him/them over :’) like when WWX was so hell-bent on hurtling down the mo’dao route :’)

plus also WWX literally fantasizes about them retiring as farmers and he’s the one out working the fields and LWJ is staying at home weaving lol, like c’mon, ya wanna talk gender roles, let’s talk about this.

the other thing is the whole mxtx anti stuff about “she’s homophobic” and “she’s a filthy fujo” and I think there’s issues that people aren’t considering, which I don’t know as much about but I feel like it informs my consideration of mxtx - such as like... not everyone’s internet is as wide open as, like, the West. I don’t know so much about Chinese censorship other than it exists, but I’m like. I think this would affect people’s access to resources which would inform them about how things work/where people are with LGBT thought? It reminds me of when young tumblr kids trash talk older queer people for using terms they see as “problematic” now, and I’m like “you really gotta pause a moment of (1) have some empathy (2) consider the person’s individual personal and cultural context.” MDZS wasn’t made for a Western audience in mind lol, it’s not going to reflect Western values! And China has a different history with its LGBT progression and it’s m/m media, which I don’t know enough about to comment specifically, but I think it’s incredibly disingenuous to judge it based on Western standards. A lot of people probably don’t realize they are! in that it doesn’t even occur to them, which is why they feel so free with their judgment! But also I’m like. lowkey THAT’s a problem for me bc of like. cultural imperialism lmfao. and also reflective of EN-language imperialism, when people are judging EN tl’s they’re seeing on face value without realizing or considering that they’re...reading... a translation... and that translations are NOT in fact direct one-for-one and that there’s a LOT of considerations that go into both translating and reading a translation of a work.

I think the points antis pull up against MXTX is like... stuff she’s said before in interviews - and I don’t know from when, but I imagine years ago at this point - where she was asked about shipping the other characters in MDZS, and she said something I think about how to her, she wants to write in a way that “preserves realism” or maybe she believes in (I only read a TL of it, so I hold the exact phrasing with a grain of salt), and for her, not everyone is gay so she doesn’t write all of her named characters gay. and I’m like. whatever that’s her prerogative as the author. And I think there’s also something that I don’t know if it’s an official “rules”/”guidelines” she wrote bc again I’ve only seen secondhand/thirdhand sources, but it’s something mxtx-antis also quote, where she said to not break up the main couples and also don’t “reverse” them. but again when we’re getting into the shou/gong dynamics, that’s where I don’t feel comfortable commenting because I don’t know enough about the sociopolitical implications of these terms and how they interact within that fandom/community subset. But I do think people need to be taking the stuff they read - ESPECIALLY if they’re only reading it in EN - with a grain of salt. or like a big ol pinch of it.

Any story, in ANY medium, that covers an historical time, would need to address the racist (& if applicable, misogynistic) attitudes of the time period it is set in. Are those stories going to always be handled 100% unproblematically? Hell no. There’s lots of things that make me uncomfortable with any western movie/book/show that finds its origins in the antebellum south. Do I enjoy them regardless? Yes. Because I can separate the things that make me uncomfortable from things that are used to highlight a change in attitudes towards race &/or women, versus an author using the time period as an excuse to act out racist/misogynistic power fantasies.

But I’ll go ahead and bite one tidbit at a time here. “His books are knee-deep in racism.”

It’s been a LONG ass time since I’ve read a Jonah Hex comic. Or rather, had it read to me, since Dad read a few of his comics to me when I was TINY ass kid (god like? When I was 6/7? I had a very brief Western Phase then.) We ended up watching more westerns than reading them. I’m sure there’s plenty of #Problematic things to be found in the comics themselves. Hell, even just his origin with being ‘sold as a slave’ to an Apache tribe & subsequently ‘taken in’ by them is something we could spend hours and paragraphs tearing apart.

Recognizing something is wrong & calling it out is perfectly fine. But something so many ‘fans’ on tumblr fail to realize is that nothing will be 100% pure. Older comics especially are riddled with racism, and it’s important to recognize those tones. But if you expect me to preface every post I make about Jonah Hex from now with “sorry sorry, I know these comics were racist tho” you must be out of your damn head.

Now for “Bendis is trying to scrub that under the rug by giving him a queer legacy”

Hon, no one is saying that Jinny’s existence automatically erases everything the writers have done with Jonah’s character. Hell, most people (fans included) aren't even aware of Jinny’s existence at this point in time unless they’re involved with reading comics. Jonah Hex’s “legacy” will survive well past whatever Bendis chooses to do with Jinny. Hell, I won’t be surprised if, after this run of Young Justice is over, she’s swept under the rug by DC & promptly forgotten. Because that’s usually what happens with next gen/legacy characters. People would rather read on ‘The Originals’ not their descendants. (the only hero I can think of off the top of my head who surpassed the legacy of their predecessor would be Zatanna vs Zatara. But she’s also had 40+ years to work to that point.)

What has been done with Jonah’s character in the past, and what Bendis & other writers choose to do with Jinny’s character in the future have nothing to do with one another. If Bendis chooses to integrate more of Jonah beyond just “here’s a weird old truck from his adventures, have fun with that!”, I’d love to see it & dissect it. Until then, there’s really only the name, and what’s looking to be the fantastical side of his adventures, rather than anything with historical weight.

“The LGBT community deserves better” (again, let’s keep in mind that your little ‘slave trader’ line there as a complete lie & the rest is just incomprehensible gibberish bc I’m gonna give you the benefit of the doubt and say you pressed ‘send’ too soon in your haste to troll.)

As a queer, hispanic Texan, I could not disagree more. Who’s ancestor HASN’T done awful things in the past? Show me someone who has a completely pure legacy free of benefit from oppressing those of another race/gender/origin/etc. We all have a fucked up history. It’s our collective human history.

LGBT history itself is built on the backs of trans women of color.

Including one more (presumably, but she IS Texan so we’ll see if they expand to make her hispanic) white wlw character is hardly new, groundbreaking representation here in 2019. But it’s progress. It’s progress where there could have JUST AS EASILY been absolutely NO representation. This shouldn’t be something that I’m absolutely ECSTATIC to see. Queer representation off all kinds should be standard.

But they aren’t.

So am I going to celebrate the fact that DC has given me a queer wlw character from an area very close to the one that I am from? An historically conservative place, mind you, where being LGBT+ can just as soon mean putting yourself in danger on the day-to-day when you live in a small, conservative Texas town?

omg i know u asked for this BUT sorry in advance bc this is gonna get long

disclaimed :- i think cexgf has good moments and is a step forward in tv shows talking about mental health and abuse, especially in women, in a more honest way.

that being said… yeah i hate some of the plots and the way some things are handled on cexgf, i’m gonna group it by topic rn just for the sake of clarity.

1. josh… can we talk about josh? i’ve been dying to talk about josh all day! he’s by no means my favourite character, i find him kinda bland and have really just never liked his archetype of character (soft sensitive hs sweetheart vibes… i’m just too edgy for that), but the narrative did him SO dirty. now, i’m white so i don’t wanna push this point too much, but it does feel… notable that josh is the only main love interest of colour and he’s getting this treatmentwhen we first meet him, he’s in an abus ive relationship with valencia, i’m not even gonna skip around it, she’s shown to be verbally and emotionally abusive, all of josh’s friends try to gently convince him not to break up with her, and josh is shown to be afraid of her at times. then, he breaks out of this relationship by cheating on her (but cheating isn’t really shown to be a big thing on this show, so?), and carries on the exact same cycle of being controlled by rebecca! this could have been such an interesting way of showing how abuse cycles work, but instead they chose to have josh leave rebecca at the alter and then… run away to become a priest? just when you think you’re finally on rebecca’s side, she attempts to ruin his life by telling lies about him and threatening him. while this could have been a good way of showing that rebecca is as morally grey as all the other characters on the show, its played in a worryingly “YEAH GIRL! FUCK UR EX!” kinda way. she even gets valencia involved and bonds with her over hating josh!

2. which leads me onto my next point. nathaniel. so, we’re not supposed to feel sorry for josh, in fact we ultimately seem to be supposed to laugh at him, but what about nathaniel? they’re very tongue in cheek / self aware about him being a cishet white man, but they never actually… do anything about it? it’s a common ditch comedy shows fall into: make fun of/criticise what they’re doing but not subvert they’re using at allll

3. lgbt issues. i know i shdnt complain since the show is less bad than others, but at times the way they handle lgbt topics made me lose my mindddd. there are so many things so i’m just gonna go thru them in no particular order here, uh:

the constant CONSTANT references to trans people without making an attempt to have any trans or nb characters. the last episode i rewatched was the party bus one, and i completely forgot rebecca tries to be woke by talking about how she took a pole dancing class run by a trans woman. that in itself doesn’t bother me, but throughout the show they keep referencing cisgender privilege and all that. and yet, there were so many moments where the show was so weirdly cissexist, and so many times where they COULD have introduced a trans character but didn’t. i remember at the high school reunion episode, valencia was only using they pronouns for her old crush, which could have been a great way of having some semblance of trans or non-binary rep but…guess that’s too much to ask!

white josh… honestly i liked him as a character he was a total dick but often felt like the designated “voice of reason” character. but it felt very transparent for the only gay man to just end up… alone and loveless having LITERALLY lost everything at the end of the show. it felt weirdly cruel and a strange kinda punishment for not… liking rebecca ig?

darryl makes me rly uncomfortable in a way i can’t put my finger on, i think the fact that he’s mocked for being more sensitive and “feminine” (in a way) rly sits badly with me as a trans man who still has some quite feminine mannerisms bc of how i was brought up

(idr the polyamory episode but im gonna trust u when u say it was ignorant)

4. mental illness okay, this one is very personal, and i understand that not every show is catered towards me personally, and that’s okay! but having rebecca be a rich cishet white woman made all the mental illness aspects feel almost hollow to me. watching someone who can afford mental health help, and who isn’t afraid to see a therapist bc of discrimination (the only therapist ive ever seen was my school counselor at college, and she was transphobic.) idk idk

while she doesnt make the absolute worst content in the fandom i think just labeling what she does as ‘iffy’ is being kinda ignorant

she has clarified time and time again all her bkgs are trans, and in her fantasy au comics says he is pre op as she doesnt wish to focus on things like dysphoria. thats fine and dandy on its own, in fact we need more trans narratives shown in that light. however, hes pre op with nothing like hormone blockers, so that means shes constantly drawing a minor with their boobs out. when shes an adult, and claims to be against the sexualization of the bnha kids

to further on that she gives the girls better outfits that cover up more however will put bakugou in honestly really fetishizing outfits, going as far as making the shirtless sleeve bullshit that ppl complain abt kirishimas hero costume into a constant thing in bakugous fashion sense. theres also the fact i had to mute her on twitter bc often times when she ended up on my tl one way or another it would be constant shit of bakugou being bruised, chained, and bloodied (and of course, shirtless), and its honestly all, really fucking uncomfortable.

her other transmasc character, red riot, is an adult but has top surgery. while boobs shouldnt be inherently sexualized in society, that are, and if you want to make a statement about it, you dont use fucking minors. especially when youre portraying one thats part of a minority you have power over. so crabbng constantly draws a trans minors boobs out, and never has done that with any adults, when it would make so much more sense for bkg to cover his chest all the time and the adult trans character to be the one with a pre-op chest out. no one else is tits out beside a character who is a trans minor.

the only reason she gets away with this is bc of her simple style. ive seen fanart of her comics that looks almost exactly like fantasy au genderbend bkg stuff where the artist didnt cover the chest either. like...a minor being a trans boy doesnt give you excuse to draw their boobs out, and you shouldnt use your simple style as a way to get away with it. like this whole thing has just been an adult trying to make excuses to draw a minors boobs instead of thinking “oh! that IS gross of me, i’ll stop doing that!”. art isnt made in a vacuum, so you cant really claim its not sexualized when society at large still sees it as such, and she does too but only with the girls cause its more convenient to her work

ultimately thats not even the worst thing, whats really bad about all of this is how she handles criticism, which is by claiming “dont defend me, this is all valid” along with more paragraphs of bs and doesnt change a damn thing. she responded to them with bullshit instead of actually fixing anything. when i first brought up these criticisms i was a huge fan of her work and i was 15, and to bring up smth that i realized had made me uncomfortable to be greeted with paragraphs that all i could describe as academic crytyping is really ugly. like... shes too prideful that shes soooo good abt trans issues she wont fix the simple thing of not drawing a kids boobs out. literally just a shirt would solve this issue but she thinks writing rants of her cis & adult opinion on the matter is more productive. or she does the basic bs about how she cant ~please everyone~ which is the exact argument anti sjws & media creators say when lgbt rep in media gets criticism as well

i think its also side eye worthy how she publishes anons that claim to be trans men who were helped by her shit too whenever criticisms are brought up. like... all thats doing is stroking her ego, on top of the fact its not unlikely some cis fan was angry abt ppl criticizing their fave fanartist and lied abt themself on anon cause that honestly really damn easy. it also rubs me the wrong way how she earns money off her comic that constantly has a minors boobs out.

i guess tl;dr: crabbng constantly draws a trans minors boobs out against all criticism (including much from trans men, many are minors themselves, to which she responds with bullshit instead of actual improvement) along with other sketchy & hypocritical shit and im tired of seeing her so uplifted among the fandom until she straightens her shit out, and until she does, she will only continue to make me very fucking uncomfortable. and if she ever sees this she BETTER actually get off her ass and do smth instead of just saying “youre valid :) but im not changing anything”

Dear ex girlfriend,

Okay look I know these sort of things are a bit overrated. If you were here right now, you’d be making fun of the fact I was even indulging this sort of activity. Writing to someone that isn’t there, that is. However, that’s kind of what I’ve always done, huh? Maybe that’s why I know you’d find it silly, maybe it’s why I know exactly how you’d react. Or maybe I just know you well enough to know, but do I really?

It’s been a few years, and I feel ashamed to say I can’t really remember all the details fully. I can still see your face like it was yesterday, though, or the way your voice dipped low when you sang your favorite songs. How often we’d stay up late at night because you couldn’t sleep, you wouldn’t sleep, always on the alert. Like your body was ready to fight, even though there was no fight happening.

I remember the way you’d smile and laugh whenever I did something stupid, or got some human cultural thing completely wrong. You’d never correct me, though. You’d let me keep believing it until I eventually found out, to my embarrassment, how badly I had messed it all up. I’d profusely apologize but you’d just snort and kiss me straight on the mouth, telling me how much you loved a man who could get flustered.

I guess that’s really what started it, honestly. The day I met you in that LGBT+ club in your highschool back on Earth, when I found out about humans also struggling with gender identities. I remember you being jealous of me at first and treating me like a pest, because I had basically already transitioned. No one misgendered me, it’s kind of hard to misgender an irken disguised as a human male after all, but when we became friends?

Well that probably was the best day of my life. Only seconded possibly by the day I told you I wasn’t from Earth, when I showed you the stars and gave you that holographic projector for your room. I remember how we’d lay in there and trace the constellations beside irk for hours, and I’d tell you all about how we come from a past-oppressed race controlled by the brains.

You’d continuously tell me you have no idea what the fuck any of it meant, but sometimes you’d make parallels to the general world history of Earth. I remember listening to you tell me facts about it for hours more, way until the sun came up and you fell asleep, completely forgetting you have a history test in school that day. Did it really matter, when you already knew everything anyways?

That’s not what this letter is about, though. It’s not about the nostalgia or the good times we had. As much as I want to dwell on this, I guess this letter was about closure of some sorts. I don’t know how to really get that, sometimes the trauma of a whole universe being wiped from existence will do that to you though, huh? I had so much to say, so much I wanted to say, but I don’t think you’ll ever hear it anyways.

The best I can do is really write out the main reason I feel I need to speak with you, currently. I feel so frustrated at myself, and I know you’d be the voice of reason to kick my ass into gear. You were good at that, forcing me to do the things I know I didn’t and just couldn’t do. Somehow you made doing the things I was most afraid of possible.

In a way, my mates have carried on that tradition, but I think they’re just more gentle and less confrontational about it. I think that’s probably a healthier thing, though, in a way? To give me the space to make my own decisions, make me realize that I can’t rely on others to force me to do the things I know should be done. I’ve been so scared lately, it’s been pissing me off.

You remember how pissed I’d get when I felt like crying, how I’d get frustrated bc I just wasn’t sure why I wanted to cry. Maybe that’s why I wanted to talk to you most, to tell you that’s how I’ve been feeling. I know I can cry on either of my mate’s shoulder, but you never treated my crying as something that needed to be helped or saved. I think you just instantly understood.

Even worse, I can’t even look at my mates lately, and Chance has been noticing and calling me out on it. Telling me I need to sleep and get some rest, but I’d rather just stare at this dumb code and double check that it’s truly in the location it says it’s in.

Even though I know for a fact it’s in that location, I can’t seem to really want to process it. I don’t want to process any of this, Beatrix. Where are you to yell at me to get my ass into gear? To tell me I’m the fucking leader of a ragtag rebellion? Would you find it surprising or funny that I ended up being only one of three leaders in this relationship I am currently in?

Would you.... Be happy for me, would you want to see me happy? I don’t want to push my crippling guilt of our universe’s death into this letter but, what would you tell me to do? I can only come up with fake scenarios where you try and motivate me, but each and every one of them just leaves me more depressed, more scared.

Every time I look into my mate’s faces, I realize they’re the ones I want to spend forever with. But what if forever ends, what do I do then? They’re not you, and that’s a good thing. I love them for being the two people in this whole entire universe that I need the most, but I don’t want to have to need them. I don’t want to hurt like that again, I don’t want to lose it all again.

I wish I had you, one of my closest and dearest friends, to tell me how stupid I’m being. How I’m being an utterly chaotic fucking fool for thinking I should be handling the weight of a whole entire universe on my shoulders when I have two loving mates who can reassure me. I just don’t want to lose them, but I know by avoiding them, I risk the possibility of them being lost anyways.

It’s better than them being dead, but I know that every moment that rat bastard Dwicky is alive, I risk them dying anyways.

I can’t.... even begin to come up with anything to say that isn’t just venting or cry-typing at this point. I know you’d find the thought of me cry-typing amusing, though, but the energy to do something on that scale of emotion is just too much for me right now. I wouldn’t even know where to start.

So I guess, as always, this is goodbye. The goodbye I never got to say to you, another letter of closure that I know will never reach you. That this will just go into another one of my cupboards hidden in the holodeck. The fact that I lost all the other letters when I lost my last ship was tragic but, I prefer not to have these in permanent files.

I think the part I like about writing these out by hand is that they aren’t forever, and I know that. I know these feelings? All temporary, like the paper I write them on. Even if they will continue to stack up in boxes in the cupboards until I get the spooch to burn them all again, like I do periodically, I think it’s.... healing to realize that nothing I am feeling right now will be forever.

Maybe that’s the only thing I have no issue with abandoning. These are the only feelings I truly wish to forget, the ones that are harder to feel. My mates, though? I do not regret them, and I won’t ever regret being close to you, either. I hope that one day, if there is a life after this one, that we will meet and catch up. I know you would not blame me for the failures I have made, like I do myself, like I fear my mates eventually doing despite knowing they never would.

This is the fact that REAL LGBT people watch this show; real NON-WHITE people watch this show; real WOMEN watch this show, and WOMEN are the literal lead characters of this show. But those parts of the audience wind up disappointed with the lack of care, consideration, or prioritization in this weak-ass writing, where only the art and animation salvage it.

Heh...

Then why are some of the most prominent fans of the community LGBT, Non-white and/or women? I mean, surely if this was handled so poorly they wouldn’t be so prominent. Unless of course, the issue isn’t with the show but a certain group of people with a similar thought process (that being “If it doesn’t pander to me, it’s bigotry!.’)

Diversity isn’t a fucking myth like you think just because you have less social aptitude than a fucking rock, or because you refuse to interact with anyone that isn’t the same as you.

Says the woman who rejects other LGBT/non white people for not thinking exactly like her.

Monty was GENTLY asked in a post-show interview if there’d be LGBT+ rep in RWBY, and he confirmed yes. That was 2014.

And he also fucked over his own show numerous times. He wasn’t exactly a good writer so him saying that would have probably resulted in a ham fisted, out of place moment of gay angst that would never be mentioned ever again.

What Miles Luna, Kerry Shawcross, and Gray Haddock have done, instead of giving us a named PROTAGONIST character to be the first instance of that rep, they made the first openly gay character a VILLAIN. (no, Matte Sky does not count bc the VOICE ACTOR named them, not the creators)

You mean the single sympathetic villain who would later get a redemption arc among the other straight villians who are portrayed as irredeemable and monstrous *cough* ADAM *cough*.

Oh no, how terrible. You get a complex and well written character instead of the edgelord.

Nothing is groundbreaking about that trash. LGBT+ historians and fandoms have noted that in the media, villains were portrayed as gay, trans, or implied as such for YEARS. (it’s called “queercoding”)

And that’s called ‘bullshit’ because coding is only ever brought up in subjective ways.

Not only that: You were never promised something GROUND BREAKING. Show me where it was said that.

Monty was GENTLY asked by fans at a convention when more brown characters would be in RWBY. He confirmed that Sun and Velvet have “cool” dark-skinned teammates. That was 2013. (after an animation panel at Supanova)

So no, this isn’t just “rabid tumblrinas” hounding the creators for the sake of being special snowflakes like you fucking think. These are real fucking people who love the soul of this show but don’t actually SEE THEMSELVES IN IT. And Monty, rest his soul, was so excited and earnest in wanting to be inclusive so this show could be shared and loved by more people.

Yeah and Miles and Kerry get death threats over this. That was proven in 2018. I could not care less.

And here’s the deal: If you cannot relate to a character because they do not share the same skin color as you, you do not DESERVE a character to relate to. Because creators are suppose to make compelling characters and skin color is NOT COMPELLING. Expecting me to find a character compelling because they are white is honestly INSULTING to me.

But the fact is that it’s not as inclusive as it could be. Even when he was alive, he made missteps too. And it’s not even like it’d be a big deal to fix. But hateful people go out of their way EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. to make it seem like it’d be such a lorebreaking addition to make a character brown, gay, or trans.

The fact that ‘it’s not as inclusive as it could have be’ is a flaw shows you do not actually care about the show. Because you care SO LITTLE about the show actually being good you try to prioritize something COMPLETELY DIVORCED from quality above all else.

And no one wanted them to just do it because it was not the right fucking time or place. Imagine a character in Berserk went off on a tangent about how gay they are. That’d be pretty cringy right? Now think of that same thing in MHA. Not even bad now is it? Because one is not built to support this and the other CAN support it.

Honestly, the way they handled Illa, from a purely writing standpoint, is the best way they could have gone about it. It’s used to emphasize her pain with Blake and quickly takes a backburner for Illa’s more personal and universal issues. They showed it was athing before moving onto more pressing matters.

It makes absolutely ZERO SENSE how a FANTASY REALM can be lacking so much variety in terms of its inhabitants. And Diversity is an AFTERTHOUGHT. Or a “lorebreaker” (remember the homophobic “how would you show gay characters? just have them make out during the chaos? That’d make no sense!” argument? Fun times!!!)

Damn near every single piece of fanart about Illa emphasizes her being gay, apparently that was an informed guess on their part. And honestly ticks me off since Illa is so much more than that.

How many times do we have to sift through the garbage comments on fanart (FAN ART!!!) of Blake being portrayed as black, as if that’s some huge leap from what she could have represented in the first place?

Representation doesn't matter here, it's the fact that these designs usually look like shit because the people making don’t care about good character design and use dark skin on a design that is built around light skin. It’s like if someone made a light skinned Emerald-it would look fucking awful.

How many times do ppl turn a blind eye to femslash fanart of team RWBY but suddenly complain when someone mentions the notion of one of the characters in team RWBY actually being canonically gay? Or bi? Or pan? Anything outside or in-between?

Never. I have literally never seen that happened. I’ve seen people be called homophobic for shipping straight ships before I say this.

Hateful people are like “u should be thankful” when they’re having a buffet of representation and we only get, not just breadcrumbs, but moldy ones that the ants are crawling on. Then, when we make our own stuff to satisfy us (again: FAN ART! FANFIC! HEADCANONS!!!) they’re suddenly so defensive and wanna police our shit???

A. Nobody has ever just eaten certain foods because of their color,

B. You actively REFUSE to accept any character that isn’t EXACTLY like you and proceed to try to hurt REAL PEOPLE over this. Mold crumbs with ants on them is more than you deserve, honestly STRAVATION is more than you deserve.

C. Making fanart and fanfics that are fundamentally WORSE than canon and calling it ‘fixed’ or ‘improved’ like these people always do is insulting. You are actively pissing people off.

Oh and D. I have seen people ATTACK OTHERS over them not following their headcanons.

Yes, a dark skinned character with understandable motives, symapethic beliefs and conflcits about her actions.

A. Name me a single trans person who said that, let alone enough people for me to even consider that.

And B. Adam is cisgendered and a genocidial Nazi. Good luck beating that.

It’s not rocket science. Rooster Teeth’s animated show, “RWBY” has a problem not just with it’s writing, but with diversity. Pure and simple. And this show has had since 2014 to improve. But you’re still surprised that some of us are fucking mad.

And yet every single example you gave not only doesn’t work but would set a standard for STRAIGHT WHITE PEOPLE to complain about their representation.

how do you make poses for the roof? i'm not sure how i can know if the sims will clip into the roof or float

honestly i just...eyeball it...because all roofs are different and you can’t put them into blender so. i just winged it lmao...i just made a pose that looked like it could’ve been lou climbing out the window, only the rig was still ground level, and then i used alt + 9 to lift the teleporter onto the roof as best as i could. that’s why it probably wouldn’t be a very practical pose to release, because i have no way of making it easy to use

i don’t know if i’ll be able to replicate the reshade effect totally but i could release the action i’ve made for myself? it warms up screenshots but is totally adjustable to your liking for different color tones so in that way it’s kinda similar to the reshade. i’ll seeeeee what i can do...i know the woes of mac users all too well, my friend

so... review time, here goes

the songs were great! any time ben sang, it felt off - maybe bc i wasn’t sure if it was actually mitchell singing or not - but otherwise, the music was fantastic. “it’s going down” blew me away. the “what’s my name” performance absolutely blew me away. even the ending song was fun. i’m glad the music was more consistent this time around. my only issue was no actual singing from thomas - if you’ve watched the lodge, you’d know he is as good a singer he is dancer, and he’s amazing at both, so. sad he didn’t get a chance to show that off as much in the movie.

speaking of which, thomas was just amazing in this movie in general? like he did such a good job playing harry, even to the point where the character was kind of insane (and very, very gay), and i loved the performance so much. such an excellent villain, i hope he comes back for the third film (if/when it happens) and has a much bigger role.

everyone did a good job as their respective characters, my only issue was the writing, really. the pacing seemed off - the film didn’t have a set beginning, middle, and end. like, they saved ben and you’re like “okay, so that’s it, right?” and then you realize there’s another hour and you wonder what could possibly happen next. the characterization also was off at times, like i get mal doesn’t quite want to be in auradon but i also don’t feel like she’d be so emotional? and also why did she take her mom with her to the isle? what happened to that, anyway? that was just like some big plot hole that never got resolved. and there were a fair amount of other cringe-worthy lines thrown in the mix.

i was surprised by how much i liked gil, though, even with the limited screen time. he was a ditz but he was fun. i especially loved when he told ben to tell belle that his dad said hi. it was quite funny and fit his character (and gaston’s, bc even after being revived he would probably still try to woo her).

carlos and jane were obviously one of my least favorite things about the film. i’ll admit they were kind of cute during the cotillion scene, with all the dancing, but they make better friends. jane dates lonnie, carlos dates jay. perfect solution, right?

(speaking of them, agender/trans carlos? sign me up.)

one plus of the film was all the shipping opportunities. i found myself liking ben/evie way more then ben/mal. their chemistry seemed far more natural. (not that ben/mal isn’t cute, but i wasn’t feeling it as much in this film.) harry was v gay for ben, but also had a lot of sexual tension with uma, who also 100% has a history with mal. basically i ship everyone with everyone. except janelos, lol.

lonnie’s storyline was actually quite brilliant especially considering how it parallels to her own mother’s story. i wish we got a cool training montage with her and jay.

i forgot how annoying chad actually is. guess i created my own version of him that i liked more. he’s even more of a dick in this movie, but his obsession with audrey was funny. (though mentioning her constantly without actually having her in the film? horrible. bring her back for the third film.)

cgi was, well, not good, but i guess that was expected for a tv movie. i mean, it was alright at times, like the whole bg when they were on the boat, or in the limo heading to the isle, but uma and her tentacles were not good. mal the dragon was okay, but that whole scene brings us back to the plot hole thing and poor script. that part was so messy i really wish it wasn’t there. there needs to be some explanation for how mal can transform into a dragon, or how uma could spell ben on the isle where there is no magic??? unless she somehow snuck into the limo, but i’m not sure how that would have happened with the bridge being destroyed.

going back to plot, i wish the new vks had some redemption. or at least a chance at it by coming to auradon. they talked about sending some kids over, but does that include vks like harry and gil? it should.

of course, the film ends with a cliffhanger leaving the door wide open for a third film. i’m glad the writers are hopeful and ambitious but that also wasn’t necessary. my only real hope for a third film is for a union between the isle and auradon. oh, and a theatrical release. that bigger budget could really help with those cgi problems. and if hsm3 could get to the big screen, why can’t descendants 3? also a better script. and some lgbt representation. it’s 2017. we can handle it. it'll be good to expose kids to that. ignore homophobic midwestern moms. do it, disney, come on.

I have been thinking alot about this tweet. Part of me feels this way due to how isebella was presented.

I dont think it was the shows intention but it does feel that way and i dont completely believe this. I am not sure of i truly believe at all but at the same time i may believe a little bit of this deep down bit i dont think i should feel or think this way.

In all honesty its not that i really hate isebella she had good pontential but its the concept of isebella i dont like. All isebella is ; is a woman in the fridge troupe created for the sole purpose of plot device, to break apart a friendship so they can be enemies. I get that it needed to happen and i will admit some good things came out of thier fallout strange enough to say. I just wish it happen diffrently or at least explain or reveal who isebella really was. When isebella was introduced i though two things there is alot of pontential to do something interesting with isebella or they will go the cliche love triangle and liar revealed cliche which is the one i was worrying about happening and yet it came true it happen which i am so disappointed because i though gotham was better than that. I honestly cant accept that she was just an innocent librarian who happen to look like kirsten but better in every way for ed such as loving riddles all is somehow just a sheer coindence? I mean really we are suppose to accept that? Maybe some can but i sure can’t. Am i really suppose to believe that this woman who looks like ed dead girlfriend, who is the perfect dream girl for ed, who also so happen to love riddles, a woman that he only met in one day is immediately in love? Sure ed only loved her because she looks like kirsren but new and improved. She the girl ed wish kirsten could be which could lead to a very deep interesting and psychological but got spolied when they killed off. Whats her reason for failling for him in one day? How does she know he liked riddles when meeting at the liquor store? What really baffles me is that gotham is a place where you have clones,resurrection, villians with super powers and yet the writers did nothing with that didn't take an advantage? So many interesting avenes and interesting directions they could have done with isebella yet they went with most cliche plot line with crappy troups involved. This is why i just cant take isebella seriously as a character or take her relationship seriously with ed. Even when she died i had a hard time feeling bad for him and i do feel bad for feeling that way its just everything about isebella and that surrounds her feels so fake. It just feels obvious that she is a plot device character and thats her only purpose. How am i suppose to believe it when it all feels rushed and fake. Worst of all they get the queer character to ruin the hetro relashtionship. I know that this isnt the writers intention or at least i hope not because that how it feels in my perspective.i dont know maybe thier is something wrong with me a, maybe i am delusional. I get that gotham is a place where love ends in heartbreak and tradegy but the problem is despite that all the hetro relashtionship gets all the attention even couples who are not even couples like batcat they may never actaully hook up but they kissed more that 2-5 since gotham started. Jim relashtionship always get attention even the rushed one. Babs and tabs gets some attention and so did montaya and babs but thats it. Gotham had a chance to do the same with two men and they threw it away on a crappy plotline on love triangles and revenge.( ok i will admit oswald revenge was fantastic) i just wish the show a had more lgbt reputation and i wish the lgbt relashtionship had more attention. I wish gotham handle the isebella thing much better. I do hate to tell the writers how to do thier job but i feel really disappointed in thier choices this season how ever if they explain isebella purpose better , give her a better purpose, reveal who she actaully is becuase i feel that she needs more closer. Inmean hell shes practically a referance to vertigo why not use that to thier advantage.

Keep this in mind these are just my thoughs and feelings on this subject matter so none has to agree with me. I dont think they were queerbaiting since penguin is a queer character and i do like how they handled his sexaulity and not making a big deal of him lo ving a man and oswald seems comfortable with his sexaulity and his feelings for ed. I love how oswald doesnt nessarily have a label for his sexaulity because he is attracted to emotional connection and personality which is considered to be demi if you want to label it i guess. That part was done beautifully. I also like how oswald gets his revenge and out smarts es at every turn. I also love how ed battles his guilt for killing oswald and shows that he really did deeply care about him and how he handles life without oswald. Despite robin and cory claimimg that ed has no romantic feelings for ed i still question that espeacilly after the sexy hallucination of oswald sining amy whine house. I am sorry robin and cory but ed seemed pretty aroused in that scene plis he imaged oswald like that and thier was alot of sexaul tenstion and it seems like ed was trying to fight amd deni thoes feelsings. I hope what cory and robin said was just thier interepreation on what they see so far and dont want to createa potential spoliers or give false hopes. Who knows. Over all i loved the season mostly the second half. I just hope season 4 will fix thier past mistakes and i hope to see ed and oswald to be friends again.

Sorry if i often people with this message these are just my thoughs and feelings and that qoute up above only part of me believes that. It is my automantic thought doesnt mean thats what it actaully is however sometimes i feel very unsure of my self and thier are two sides of me that are battling eachother. Part of me think that tweet is true and another part of me thinks its just an irrational thought and i am just really upset how it was all handled.
