Ya know what? I think I will scream into the void about Robbie's character design
Reminder that this is a random person on the internet and what I say below derives from things my silly little brain thinks.
The amount of connections from his human form, his Ghost Rider form and his personality is so dang cool. When you look at his human form and you look at his Ghost Rider form you still know which ghost rider he is even if you take away one of the main components which seems to be his jacket, you can even know which ride is his.
Design wise, I love that his skull isn't your average skull, ya know in a sea of ghost Riders with a lot of them having normal skulls. It makes a viewer just KNOW Robbie isn't you're traditional Ghost Rider. I'd include his car into that but I won't cuz there's been a horse as a ride before and there are so many other vehicles as rides now. (And as it should be cuz it would just be pretty silly if all Spirits restricted their rides to just motorcycles. They need to get things done, lol.). Also I think we can call it a skull cuz like, what else can be done? It's got the shape, and it's not a helmet, there is an organic jaw fused to it, just saying.
The v shaped scar and the single white streak in his hair, boom, the center flame on his skull. Heck it even makes a connection to the blower on the hood of his car.
Adding to that, because the flames on his skull are directed and channeled through holes in the back of his head, the center flame, his eye sockets ,and his mouth; can make for a better gauge on his emotions and what he's feeling due the size, shape, and location of be it flames, sparks, smoke and even the appearance of molten metal.
Just imagine a scenario where Robbie is transformed like
Gabe: Robbie are you ok?
Lisa: Yeah cuz you are sparking and smoking like crazy right now
Ghost Rider Form Robbie who just missed out on a good sale for groceries cuz of Eli's bs: I'm good.
Then there's his car in general. Not only does it have a history with Robbie, it becomes an extension of himself and he would be a liar if he says he doesn't like it. It lets him do things he hasn't been able to do freely before, like race or take his little brother to school or just out the house in general. Heck, it let's him be a mechanic with an actual car XD.
Still going on about the car but I have to say this. The fact that Robbie is a Mexican American and his ride is a car has to be 100% purposeful. Cars have such a rich history for Mexicans and Mexican Americans. Especially in California and Texas, and some of Colorado, New Mexico, and Arizona. From revolting, to artistic expression, to family connections. It's really too bad that the comic's run was cancelled cuz there could have been so many cool topics to mention stuff about it.
Onto his apparel, when he's Ghost Rider it becomes that of a racer. Something Robbie loves to do and is VERY good at. I don't even need to point out his leather jacket in his human form. The tight shirts mentioned in the comics are more of a reflection of his situation. They are too small for him and it's more than safe to assume he doesn't bother with new clothes until they cannot be used anymore, cuz that costs money that he can't afford to spend. Grey jeans, black jacket combined with a white hoodie, or just a simple t-shirt, it's simple monochrome and it's harsh. Much like the hell charger. Also two jackets in Cali? Either becoming a Ghost Rider did something for him to be unbothered or suns heat be damned the drip is just too important.
Now we move onto his eyes and some of the scars. I just personally love it when powers or superhuman abilities are given to characters and they leave a physical mark cuz they are physical reminders to the character in question that they are no longer the same. It can also gives a chance for side characters to make note of or mention.
(This one is more headcanon-ey) Even with his teeth. With some of the other riders all their teeth look pretty flat, at least from what I've seen but it's a pretty safe bet to say genetically Robbie is one of those people who have a set of sharp little canine teeth. That get longer and sharper in his Ghost Rider form which are visibly the most organic part of his skull when transformed.
I will say, I think his white hair streak being something he dyes is a missed opportunity, but that's just me. Eyebrow slits are always cool so there is that. That undercut and the little beard patch just makes sense. The plug earrings, also cool. Just, I love Robbie's character design. It's more modern than his predecessors, and it very much so says "Yes. It cannot be denied, this kid is Latino." And it's fresh and respectful and gives him his own personality. It's a 10 out of 10 for me.
I'm also not gonna talk about weapons, they just seem pretty inconsistent throughout his appearances so I don't got much to say on that.
Did I miss something? Probably but it is what it is lol.

Ninten ninten ninten!!!
So this is my version of Ninten haha
God I literally cannot draw him 80% of the time so it's nice to actually have one turn out good (it's so hard to not accidentally make him look really stupid or really obnoxious ><)
He's pretty much entirely based off what I came up with in my head after playing the game and thinking about how I imagined the characters' personalities, so it's pretty different from the usual takes on him
Design details and a flood of headcanons below :D
So I wanted him to be very distinct from Ness!! There's similarities like the black hair and the clothing palettes, but otherwise nobody would look at my Ninten and Ness and confuse them for each other
Tumblr media
Personality-wise holy fudge do I have a ton of stuff on him
He does have a hat but I only sometimes draw him with it (unlike Ness who refuses to go anywhere without it :3)
His overall shape is wayyy different to Ness's, very scrawny and straight while Ness is all round and squishy
Shirt's blue with a yellow collar, a single yellow stripe on the middle, and yellow edges to the sleeves
He looks a lot like his great grandmother ;)
and also pee-wee herman but that's not as profound
Ninten is a bright and relentlessly optimistic young boy from rural Eagleland
You can call him Pollyanna, say he's crazy as a loon, but he believes in silver linings and that's why he believes in you :)
So my main thing with how I imagine Ninten is that he's, like, almost the sole source of light in the story. How I see the rest of the world is super drab and bleak, pretty much everyone just perpetually down in the dumps (i'll get into this more when I make posts about the other characters!!) And then this kid shows up, and he's full of hope and compassion, and he makes everyone he meets start to realize "maybe everything isn't so bad after all…?" No wonder the final boss is literally the ultimate case of repressed feelings and angst lol
He started showing psychic abilities from a pretty early age, making friends with animals and moving small objects with his mind
He mostly gets his love of baseball from his Dad, but because he's forced to work away from home almost all the time, Ninten's Mom practices with him and takes him to games instead
He has two much younger sisters, Minnie and Mimmie (half-baked headcanon that her name's actually Mimi and she just doesn't know how to pronounce it XD) who cares about a lot, and he often ends up looking after them whenever their Mom's out
He's a pretty great babysitter because of this, takes a lot of babysitting jobs around town, and he's a huge mom friend to the party
Of course he loves penguins too :3
Mostly listens to cheesy upbeat pop songs and rock music, but there's not really any music he actively dislikes
Favorite video games? Uhhh he's more outdoorsy and physically active but he'd like casual retro stuff like the first Mario
He's not super popular at school, because he's the weird buck-toothed dweeby kid who never shuts up about hope and optimism and penguins, but he's not unpopular at least. The bullies learned pretty quick not to mess with him, and DEFINITELY not to mess with anyone else when he's around!!
He's super friendly and prefers to solve things peacefully but he will absolutely not hesitate to clobber a jerk upside the head with his bat
He owns his own tuxedo that he likes to wear at "formal events" (birthday parties and school picture days)
yeah he's a real goober
He never lets up in his hope but god did the Mountain and everything that happened after take their toll on him
I don't have anything on him during the events of Earthbound haha, as far as I'm concerned he was taking a well-deserved nap and that adventure was all Ness's
I also don't connect him at all to Ness, the only bridge between the stories in my mind is Giygas
And here's the sketch I based the digital art off of ^^

Pokemon Scarlet Character Thoughts: Team Star
Giacomo
Tumblr media
Grimsley and Guzma’s love child, I love him dearly. He’s such a fun character, but I was a little disappointed that he was the weakest of Team Star, I feel like he should have been higher up as far as power went. I love that he was the rule stickler in school and that’s why he was ostracized and bullied but his friends trusted him in making the code of conduct for Team Star, it shows that his friends really cared about him and that despite his bad boy looking demeanor, he is actually organized. I love that he is a DJ, as it gives me that vibe of a straight A student who chose to turn to his music instead as that’s what made him happy. His nickname, Momo, is so cute, and design wise he is a fun character.
Mela
Tumblr media
Miss wildfire boots! The original Team Star member we were first introduced to and set the fandom ablaze, literally. She is so wild looking and is a fierce battler but also so tsundere it’s adorable!! Her design is so bright and fun, but she’s also intimidating and lives up to her name as a Team Star Boss. She is such a good friend as she wants to protect those who are precious to her, no matter what it takes. Her walking in her boots is also hysterical as she has to lock her knees to walk with them XD! I feel like she was bullied because she was so hot headed, and she turned that hot headedness into her own power.
Atticus
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He’s so pretty!!! As far as personalities go, he is one of the wildest in Paldea, he is such a theater child, his old-fashioned style of speaking, his wild as hell outfit, and his flair for dramatics, I love it! I know, 100%, that he was being bullied because he is so pretty, that’s why I think he dresses the way he does, to hide his face as he’s afraid of being bullied. He is definitely one of the wildest designed characters in this game, but the way they portrayed him makes it work perfectly for him
Ortega
Tumblr media
This little shit, I have never met a character that I want to punt over the back fence then hug, more than this cupcake. He’s so fancy with the way he dresses, his cane, and his Revavroom Starmobile was my favorite of the 5 leaders, his design was so much fun! But the way he talks to me makes me want to get a running start and punt him for being a little shit, but then I want to hug him because I know he was being bullied because he comes from a very wealthy family, he said so himself, and his attitude is (I’d like to think) a defense mechanism for him. He’s also very smart, as he was the creator of the Starmobiles for Team Star.
Eri
Tumblr media
Eri is absolutely my favorite character from Team Star, she a fighting type specialist, is wearing a frilly wrestling outfit with mask, and is the perfect blend of Amazonian princess. She’s girly and caring, as her outfit has lots of frills, she worries and dotes on her team members, and she keeps her Pokemon in Heal Balls, but she is one of the strongest people I faced in the game, she was the first trainer to give me a loss in the game, and I nearly lost the second time I faced her. She pulls no punches and only wants to protect those precious to her. I can almost guarantee that she was being bullied due to her height, she towers over others around her, and I think that she didn’t want to retaliate, thanks to her caring nature, until her bullies tried to bully someone close to her, and that’s when she turned into mama bear to protect and proved that she wasn’t a pushover. I love her design and I am curious to see what she looks like without her mask.
Hasta la Vistar!

Thoughts on Queen Bee
It was good. I enjoyed myself. Definitely one of the weaker episodes, but it wasn’t TRYING to be anything groundbreaking, so it’s fine. I was able to adjust my expectations in just the right way after Viv tweeted about it. She reminded us that this was gonna be a style-over-substance episode, and that’s what we got! A LOTTA style, and not much substance.....(unless you count the ones Blitzo was running on all episode)
The only thing groundbreaking is Kesha, who it turns out, is a pretty good VA? And having a song actually written by her, and performed by a DARN GOOD sound-alike. The lyrics of “Cotton Candy” aren’t amazing, but it SOUNDS great, and that’s what matters for party songs. XD I’ve had it stuck in my head all day.
It’s cool to have another complete song outta Helluva. We need more of those in season 2. “House Of Asmodeus” spoiled me XD
As for Bee herself, I didn’t really like her design all that much at first, cuz she didn’t look anything like I’d imagine Beelzebub to look in Helluva (compared to Ozzie who I thought was a good interpretation of how people usually envision Asmodeus). She’s not ugly or anything, and I love her color palette, but it felt like Viv was more focused on the Die Young callback than making her look like the Sin when designing her. But apparently, there ARE some things that she’s kept in mind and played around with (such as “Lord of the Flies” becoming “Queen Bee” - even though she should technically be a princess since the other Sins are princes, it rolls off the tongue better here), and she has a more monstrous form that we get to see. I’m pretty sure I’ll like her more as I get used to her. She just wasn’t what I expected.
There’s not really a lot to talk about story-wise. Like I said, style over substance. “Visual spectacle” to cap the season off. I like that it’s a happier second half to Ozzie’s. Both have parties run by a Sin, both have big songs, but the mood is completely different, like they’re symbolizing the different parts of Helluva’s first season - the dramatic, character-driven part, and the fun, humorous part. It’s a shame that the legal issues held this episode back so long that it can’t be considered Ozzie’s second half anymore, cuz I really do like the idea of the two episodes being foils to each other.
But uh, anyway! The only real meat in this story is just a few sweet moments between Loona and Blitzo. And also Loona being SUCH a mood. Me at parties. Always. XD It was also cool to see Tex again, since I like him, and Bee gets points for actually seeming pretty chill, especially compared to Ozzie. But that’s really it. The comedy wasn’t even really that amazing. The Dennis scene was the only time I really laughed, but I’ll take what I can get.
The delays also screwed the episode over slightly. I DO still feel bad for Blitzo, but if the episode had been released in order, I would’ve been a lot more scared for his mental state. It does lose a LITTLE impact when we know he’s gonna recover (or at least, mostly recover).
A teeny bit of woldbuilding here too- It was also cool to see a bit of the Gluttony ring - yeah, just one location, but it gets me curious to see more of it someday. We also get references to Satan and Belphagor, which means that.....there’s only one left. Only one Sin we haven’t heard from. The one who’s, fittingly, from the one ring we haven’t been to yet - Envy. I wanna see the Envy ring now. What’re they gonna do with that place? It can’t even be green! Greed is green! How does a place run by envy look? I guess the ring will be.....aquatic-themed? Maybe? I’m worried that we probably won’t be meeting the man himself due to involvement in Hazbin, but I wanna see the ring at least. Surprise me, Helluva! You already did that last episode with Sloth looking actually neat and appealing, pfffff- But yeah, that’s a long-term hope. Let’s actually get to Mammon first. One thing at a time.
S-sorry for the tangent, but yeah, this episode really doesn’t have a lot to talk about. I’m done now. XD It was fun to watch, but not one of the best I’ve seen from the show!

Ya know what these self-indulgent Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow posts need? Self-indulgent banner art, that’s what.
Tumblr media
Spoilers for issue #4!
Let’s start this off right with CREATOR CREDITS. Issue 4 of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is titled “Restraint, Endurance, and Passion.” Written by Tom King, Art by Bilquis Evely, Colors by Matheus Lopes, Letters by Clayton Cowles, and Edited by Brittany Holzherr. (w/ Assist. Editor: Bixie Mathieu & Senior Editor Mike Cotton)
THE STORY:
Right, so this? This issue? Best one yet.
Also the bleakest of the bunch thus far; even though we don’t always see the brutality of the space pirates that Kara and Ruthye are following, there’s...the suggestion of it. The aftermath. And how Kara responds to it.
Okay, getting a little ahead of myself. BASIC PLOT SUMMARY: Ruthye and Kara continue their pursuit of Krem, who has taken up with Barbond’s Brigands.
The Brigands basically just. Murder and terrorize people, for profit.
Each planet they visit brings new horrors, as well as people who need Supergirl’s help.
And help she does.
KARA-CTERIZATION:
I yell a lot about the art on this book, and have, in fact, openly admitted that I’m primarily here for Evely and Lopes.
Well, that wily son-of-a-gun King went and wrote some of the best ‘Super’ stuff I’ve ever read and dang it, dang it, now I gotta yell about the words too. XD
Specifically, I wanna yell (in a good way!) about some words that occur towards the very end of the book.
Kara and Ruthye have Seen Some Things; things like genocide and mass grave sites and horrible violence, and upon reaching a planet where peaceful monks were slaughtered, Kara’s had enough, and needs to leave because if she screams, she’ll destroy what little is left of the monks’ monastery.
Here’s the text in full, because my gosh. It’s so good:
“What I write next I write based on my observations in those long-ago days at the side of the greatest warrior in the history of this august reality we all call home. It is important to note that my assertions do not rely on anything Supergirl said. It was not a subject we ever discussed or even approached, but nonetheless I believe it to be as true as the turning of worlds. You see, what is not well understood about the daughter of Krypton is that her power was not one of action but one of restraint, endurance, and passion. She did not choose to fire a beam from her eyes, or have breath of ice, or run faster than a speeding bullet. Or any of her other well-documented miracles. No, she held back her heat vision to look you in the face. She warmed her breath to converse with you. She slowed herself to walk by your side. Ever moment of every day, she suppressed the forces churning inside of her. All of the energy of a dead world that strained against her many barriers, eternally demanded to be released. I believe this effort hurt her. I believe she lived her life in pain. But I reiterate again, for I think it important enough to repeat--These beliefs are based on my time at her side, watching her as she moved through strife and sorrow. If you were to have asked her, I have little doubt she would have claimed that such as assertion was absurd. She would say she felt fine and well and then she’d as you if you needed any help.”
A long chunk of words, I know (this comic is DENSE!) but like. This is it. This is one of the defining attributes of the Supers--all that raw power at their disposal and they choose to help people, to be kind, to suppress that power for the benefit and safety of others.
HNNNNNNNG.
Hope, Help, and Compassion for All.
Whole lotta folks claimed at the outset of this book that King did not understand Kara, that he was a bad fit. And that may be so, I suppose--there’s a whole other discussion about like. The violence and swearing and ‘does that belong in a Supergirl book?’ But the characterization? Getting that Kara and Clark are just good people?
King gets it. He got it in Superman: Up in the Sky and he gets it here, in Woman of Tomorrow.
Other things King gets! Kara is stubborn! Kara is passionate! Kara is going to fix things, even if the effort of doing so hurts her, physically, emotionally, and mentally!
(Fuuuuuuun fact for the crowd saying that Woman of Tomorrow is vastly superior to the CW show: TV Kara is ALSO all of those things! King isn’t pulling this stuff out of thin air. It’s almost like...gosh. I don’t know! Both the show and Tom King are pulling from the character’s comic history, or something!!!! HOW NOVEL.)
Like, seriously. There’s a lot of overlap. Stop pitting Karas against each other!
Tumblr media
Anyways!
I promised art, so here is art!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oh, right, forgot to mention, Kara literally THROWS HERSELF INTO THE SUN to express her grief and anger, so as to not cause that unnecessary destruction. She gives new meaning to the phrase: Set yourself on fire to keep someone else warm.
More art yelling: GOTTDAMN, the way Evely draws Kara just colliding with the surface of the sun and then the way Kara’s hair like...becomes the flames...
I am FEELING FEELINGS. HOW DARE.
Also, props to King and Cowles; King for deciding to have that initial scream, Cowles for the way the letters burst forth from the point of impact on the sun, and then back to King who decided that it would just be...devastating silent screaming from Kara, for the remainder of the scene.
Back to the characterization, I just wanted to highlight something I mentioned...earlier on, I think? In these posts? But haven’t brought up recently, and that is how this book has not once brought up Zor-El, and I think Superman only got a quick mention in issue 2.
Honestly, I think that’s gotta be some kind of record.
It’s so refreshing. Not because I think there should never be mentions of Clark, or anything--I love that boy--but because so much of modern Supergirl comic drama is mined from the same like, angsting over her place compared to Clark, or her crazy sometimes-a-supervillain dad.
There is no Clark and Kara drama here, no manufactured friction, because it’s just. A cool Supergirl story!
Gonna keep going, but let’s do it with some more...
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRTTTTTTTTT!!!!
Once again, Mat Lopes is all over the dang place with his palettes, it’s marvelous.
Each new planet gives Evely the opportunity to go hog wild on the worldbuilding and design, and similarly! Each new locale is an opportunity for Lopes to set the tone with colors. Like, here, towards the beginning of the book, we’ve got a planet bathed in this warm, pale yellow/orange light.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Quick note: “Sure, yeah, I get it. We all have our duties. And it’s mine as a neighbor to do what I can to help you with yours. Please.” A+ Kara content. We love to see it. And then locating the remains of the alien’s daughter, so that they can go visit the grave site and have some emotional closure???? It’s just. So. Touching.)
Anyways, back to colors.
Tumblr media
Like!!!! LOOK AT THAT JUMP. From the soft, almost pastoral feel of the delicate oranges and yellows to HARD GREEN, PINK, AND PURPLE. (Difficult colors to pull off in print, I might add.)
(This is also an interesting scene, character-wise, because I think it helps re-contextualize some earlier stuff with Kara. Like, I’m mostly thinking that incident on the bus, where she was swearing at the passengers as the space dragon was about to destroy them. Here, we see Kara kind of...goad this alien woman into releasing her pent up emotions by yelling at her/getting her to fight, and you can clearly see at the end of it that Kara did not mean the things she said, because check this out:
Tumblr media
She goes and gives her a hug once the woman is able to finally cry.
It’s not ‘Kara is being mean, Kara is swearing at her’, it’s, ‘Kara has an unorthodox solution to a problem, and she’s gonna FIX that problem, NO MATTER WHAT.’
Circling back to the bus thing--again, that could be an instance of ‘unorthodox approach to a weird situation that Kara is going to handle because lives are at stake.’)
But also, DIG THAT KIRBY KRACKLE, BAY-BEEEEE!
And a little Strange Adventures easter egg! The Pykkts!
(I think those guys are unique to the Black Label series, rather than deep Adam Strange lore, but don’t quote me on that.)
Moving on to YET ANOTHER PALETTE, one I’ve dubbed, ‘Treasure Planet Purple/Grey’
Tumblr media
Love Ruthye’s snoozing against the door, waiting for Kara.
Also, just as striking as the colors of the environment, are the colors used on Kara.
If you compare this page with the previous one, Kara’s eyes are a paler shade of blue, and the red-rimmed look on her eyes here is not as intense as the red-rimmed look we saw back in issue one, when she was confronting Krem.
All of which to say! There’s a pale, haunted quality to both the linework and the colors. Like. We know Kara has Seen Some Things. But she’s shoving all that stuff down to protect Ruthye, to save Krypto, and to stop these monsters, and you get all of that WITH COLORS AND LINES ON A PAGE.
I love it, I love it so much.
OTHER BOOKS WISH THEY HAD THIS LEVEL OF CHARACTER ACTING, I TELL YA! THEY WISH THEY HAD THIS BEAUTIFUL ALCHEMY OF INKER, COLORIST, AND WRITER WORKING IN SUCH TIGHT TANDEM!
Ahem. XD
Alright, last bit of art, lest I just. Post the whole issue in here. (Which I’m honestly always tempted to do but Strong Feelings about Piracy hold me back.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
JUST HECKIN’ LOOK AT THAT BLUE, MAN. JUST LOOK AT IT. S’BEAUTIFUL.
And more stunning character acting from Evely. Like. Bottom middle panel. The expression, the tilt of her head and the shadows on her eyes...
*insert silent flailing here*
Oh, also, KRYPTO LIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIVESSSS (for now).
I’m never right about these things, so I’m glad the one time I’ve correctly read a thing is when it involves Krypto not, ya know. Being dead. XD
Also absolutely love that Kara’s instinct is to send Ruthye home to protect her--once more leaning into that whole, ‘I’m going to protect you, even at great cost to myself’, though of course we know that she can’t send her home, not here, not now, just halfway through our journey.
ERRRRRRGH, so mad we’re not getting twelve issues of this! CURSE YOU, POOR SUPERGIRL TRADE SALES! CURSE YOOOOOOU!
That said, King’s pacing? Has been phenomenal. I feel like Strange Adventures and even Mr. Miracle kinda...I’m not gonna say dragged, that’s not quite right. But it is more build up, I guess. Takes a while to get to the payoff.
Here, I think King is pushing things steadily along as he doesn’t have the benefit of an additional four issues, so he has to get to the point, so to speak. Keeps everything moving.
SOME FINAL, MISC. STUFF:
I’ve sort of glossed over the darker stuff from this issue, and I just wanna note that like. This is a book that features a bad guy getting stoned (in the death sentence way, not the drug way) on panel. Like. I can’t recommend this to children.
I can’t even really recommend it to some other Supergirl fans, because I know that the King elements will be too off-putting.
It never feels like the book is going too far, though. At least in like an...exploitative way? If that makes sense?
The violence is handled with discretion, I guess is what I’m trying to convey. This could very easily tip over into like, gross shock factor territory, if not handled well, but I think the creative team pulls it off.
...Still wouldn’t hand this book to kids, though. XD
As mentioned, we’re halfway through this series! Can’t wait to see where it goes--every time I think I have this book figured out, it surprises me. So, like. Bring on the Dinosaur planet! With no sunlight! I wanna see how Lopes handles THAT. XD
(But Oh, OooooOOooh, we gotta wait until NOVEMBER.)
(Hhhnnnnng!)
(Then again, maybe that’s good; we’ve got the TV show in the meantime, and then once it ends we can pick right up with new Supergirl content just a few weeks later.)
(...Aw. Made myself a little sad, thinking about the TV show coming to an end.)
:C
So as not to end on that sad note, here once again is tiny, smushed Kara:
Tumblr media
Give ‘em the ol razzle dazzle.

Finishing up SoNY, ‘bad’ end and final thoughts!
But first, the early game over.
Wow, she just gets shot. Not even slurped? That’s rude as hell XD;;
And on to the ‘bad’ end!
Beginning is much the same, ofc.
“You’re too in love with weaving a good story and establishing a seductive narrative to let facts get in the way.” Foreshadowing for the ‘good’ end, maybe?
God that Embrace scene gives me literal goosebumps.
Alright! Last time I did Danse Macabre and Retributive Justice, let’s try The Risks of Swiping Right!
lmao god I’d eat this guy too. Back to the ghost club! That legitimately is a really neat scene. ...Ooh yes so that’s where the girl was from.
Panhard just lowkey dying at the mental image of Katherine Weise in a fast food restaurant is so good.
The sweet scene between Julia and Dakota hits a bit different after the ‘good’ end XD;;
Went to the park, reminisced, and helped out the guy. That was sweet ;_; High-humanity Julia, this time!
‘Fairy God Mother?’ is great but ‘Vin Diesel?’ is objectively the funnier response.
“Shining even more brightly than usual, Aisling.” Samira got a cru-ush~
Poor Julie. It’s probably been tough without Sophie around :(
Huh. Interestingly, refusing to lie to Mia results in Julia actually feeling genuine loyalty to the Cammies (for now, at least).
Believing Agathon is still alive = more optimistic = different dialogue! See, this is how you make choices have consequences, game!
Oooh boy time to meet Adelaide XD;;
“She uncrosses her legs in a strangely seductive motion. In her mind’s eye, it probably looked like Sharon Stone in Basic Instinct, but in reality, it had all the grace of a tracksuit Slav squatting.” *snickering*
Fight me, Adelaide >:(
‘sup Nastya. Went with the slightly less disruptive routine here XD Huh, she’s an aspiring DJ! Julia is deeply confused as to how being a DJ and being head of security works together.
lmao Julia referring to Hope as a girlboss. That phrase has lost all meaning to me...
The conversation between Julia and Father Leonard is still really interesting. Man, you know who I want Julia to talk to? Anatole. Interesting insights into balancing being queer Catholic vampires there for sure.
lmao oh my god I want to fight this street reporter.
‘I can almost feel my brain losing its wrinkles.’ *snort*
Yeaghhhh the Abyss bit is still so creepy...
Oops. Being honest regarding Tamika and Torque’s relationships gets a fail :(
Oh, or not XD That works! Also, uh, apparently the giant albino ghoul alligator is real, according to New York by Night. He’s Calebros’ pet.
“Because I think I have a pretty good nose for people’s auras. And when I take a good look at you... ...somehow, I have a feeling you’re a surprisingly decent person. Whatever way of unlife you choose, I hope you don’t change it. And that you remember my advice.” :)
“I know.” Oof.
“Hi.” “WAAAH!” lmao sorry Princess XD;; Just trying to imagine Qadir’s face as he tells Julia to find a 1990 glass statue of Scrooge McDuck... dying...
Oh she’s so a Toreador XD Low art options are a fantasy book, an anime DVD, or a video game... those can all be arty, though! And went with the anime DVD called ‘Ririsu no Daibouken’... that translates to ‘Adventures of Lilith’. How on the nose XD “The cover says ‘Lilith’s Carnal Carnival’.” Oh. Yeah, that’d do it XD
“This 90s original video anime presents us with a tale of five big-bosomed samurai warriors travelling through America in search of General Hastavista, The Incubus King. Don’t let all the titillation misguide you: the main draws here are peerless direction, a nearly avant-garde editing rhythm and dialogue that coyly comments on traditional gender roles in anime. Once you see the animation in the final battle, you’ll understand why it never fails to set a sakuga fan’s heart ablaze!”
Tumblr media
She’s my new favourite.
“So can I know your name now?”
“Hmmm... Let me think...
No. <3″
I need to stress that the heart appears in the dialogue box. Like. The actual less-than-three heart.
Didn’t investigate the rat this time, so Qadir did and I die. “Glad you’re alright, little guy.” Qadir...
Still not over the drunk blood doll rats.
Kaiser’s still a goddamn creep and this time Julia is not going too far. She still has her humanity, dammit. Final set of traits:
Loyal to the end
Glass half-full
Not into a bad cop schtick
Honesty is the best policy
No more human, still humane
Onwards to the ‘bad’ end! Oops, and Dakota still did the Single White Female thing XD;;
Man I’m still really curious who the ‘good friend’ is!!
Okay! Time for end game!!
So that’s the good friend, huh? “Let me phrase it differently, then. You’re not Ecaterina the Wise, the Agitator of Prague, a Brujah elder causing turbulences all over the world... are you?”
Mention of Christof! Mention of Christof doing shady shit :| Poor Hana.
“An immigrant from Eastern Europe comes to New York City, takes the position she always expected to find herself in, is molded into someone who is no longer herself.”
Julia and Dakota representing Carthage is kind of neat.
I want to say the mention of St Jude is a reference, but I’m not sure what to XD;; Is that from Redemption? Christof could have been the one to tell Hana that.
“Like a two-person human centipede loop or something. An Ouroburos? Or an, uhh, Mobius strip?” No, that’s the other traditionally Sabbat clan XD
That‘s. That’s a hell of a reconciliation XD “Yeah, let’s give it a try. By the way I’m on the run for my unlife, want to go to California and try to find utopia?”
Julia, wear a fucking mask XD
“Hey.”
“Yeah?“
“Do you love me?”
“... Of course I do. For now, at least.”
I still don’t know if I love her. Or even if I can love anyone, for that matter. I’m a fucking monster, after all. I don’t even know if we’ll exist next month. The prospects are not looking good. But although I can’t see myself in the rearview mirror right now...
...I will remember this image of us leaving the city, somewhat melancholic, and somewhat hopeful, forever. And maybe the meaning of this image will be clarified with time. Or maybe I will just force a more positive description on it, and that is what I’ll believe.
No matter what happens... even if oceans of blood lie before us, I will make this a cherished memory.
Whatever possible salvation still remains for me... ...it probably lies in the eyes of another.
Oh dang I have chills.
So the ‘bad’ ending is about the subverted compromise. Julia resigns herself to letting the compromise about the truth of Callihan’s death go ahead. ‘Catherine’ is a walking compromise to hide the Ecaterina’s real deeds. But while Hana is still stuck in her role for now, Julia refuses to accept the compromise she’s made, both the one relating to the investigation and the compromise she made of her own views and morals. It might blow up in her face, yeah. But damn, she’s going to try.
So, final thoughts! For the sake of completion, this is what I said about Coteries:
And of course this is the part where the game all falls apart :-\
Just… god. This is probably the biggest problem with CoNY, and the reason I didn’t bother getting it until it was like… 60% off. The bulk of the game is great - the writing is intriguing, the design is stunning. But the choices themselves are so limited it’s barely worth even getting it at 60% off!
You have three choices of characters, with their own opening chapters and own individual scenes with their touchstones. You have four choices of coterie members, and three sidequests. You can probably get in at least three full story arcs and a sidequest or two, but you’re only ever limited to two of your coterie members showing up at the not-yet-endgame.
So let’s say you decide to play all three protags, which, indeed, is encouraged (there’s an achievement for it). You are going to repeat coterie arcs and side quests, because there simply aren’t enough for three unique playthroughs.
And then you get to the end and literally everything is scripted. You get attacked by the SI. You get rescued by your two coterie members (and then never see them again, despite the game being called Coteries of New York). You meet Torque, you escape the SI, Sophie reveals her plan to Torque, you go to Ellis Island, Adelaide kills Sophie (and despite the fact that you’re given multiple options there, none of them work), Arturo does his spiel, end of game. You don’t even get to choose between ending up blood bound or going “no fuck you” and at least dying with a bit of dignity!
I just. I really want to like it, and there genuinely is a lot there to like! But uuuugh the ending. Like damn at least give the poor protag the option to choose what happens to them!
Anyway. Not sure what’s next. To get all the achievements, you have to finish with all three protags, so that’s three full runs and a lot of repetitiveness (compare to, say, Bloodlines or Night Road. I have eighty-five hours on Night Road and there’s still stuff I haven’t seen!), so I can’t even just… rush it through up to the meeting with the touchstones on the third play. Nope. Gotta finish it :-\
Final rating: 6/10
8/10 characters, 9/10 atmosphere, 8/10 story aside from ending, 3/10 story ending, 2/10 replayability. Final consensus: get it on major sale if you can, otherwise, you might as well just watch an LP. I might do that instead of doing a third run, although I at least want to do a second.
I ended up revising that 6/10 to 5.5/10 after finishing all runs and getting the achievements just out of how goddamn repetitive it was. So, how does Shadows measure up?
Absolutely continued with all the things I enjoyed about CoNY (characters, atmosphere, and writing), and of the bits I hated (cookie cutter protagonists, lack of real choice, repetitiveness, the godawful ending), every single part has been completely improved.
Instead of three fledglings so similar they even have the same internal thoughts, we have Julia, who’s got such a distinct voice that she becomes the most memorable game protag I’ve seen in years, and I’m including non-VtM games in this. This is absolutely her game, and it’s just... absolutely fascinating to read and watch.
Related - actual real choices. There are five key choices that determine the ending, and every single one has actual consequence in-game. You get different dialogue. Different introspection. Different philosophies. And this carries across - if Julia believes Agathon is alive, she’s more optimistic about her relationship with Dakota, too. And of course, both endings are completely distinct and incredibly written - the ‘good’ ending where Julia gives in to her most Lasombra instincts, plays the game, wins it, gets power and respect at the expense of her humanity and avoiding all those wraiths... or the ‘bad’ ending when she listens to her morals, reconciles with Dakota, and leaves for California, uncertain, but hopeful.
Not a lot of repetitiveness. Yes, by design, you’ll probably do two playthroughs. The main plot is much the same, but there are enough options there to get multiple dialogue options and stuff. And for the little sidequests, you can actually get all in with just the two playthroughs, only repeating like... two, I think. Still, I wasn’t feeling actively bored like I was midway through my second run of CoNY!
Loved seeing more in-depth backstory and development for the coterie members. Agathon’s section was particularly fascinating, literally getting into his head.
And just. Atmosphere and music is so, so good.
Final rating: 9/10. Thank you, Draw Distance, you hit it out of the park.

I wish to know more of your awesome OCs!! So, 19, 22(or maybe as an alternative if they don't, something you mischaracterize on some of them by mistake? Odd, but I sometimes mess up my own ocs XD), 23, 24, 26, and 32 for the OC questions!!
Oh! You beautiful person you! 💖🥺 Of course I shall tell you more about my many, many ocs! Hopefully I can fulfill! 🥰🤗
More undercut because this turned out to be very long ~ 😅
19.  Introduce an OC that means a lot to you (and explain why).
Aw, honestly all my OC’s mean so much to me! It is hard to play favorites sometimes lol. Though, if I had to choose, I’m going with two of them!
Samantha, or Sam, is definitely my baby and has definitely developed so much from her original self. Nonetheless, still the same shy, curious girl who has a big role to uphold as chosen Beta to her Alpha. Plus, being a Legendary Wolf Warrior of Light, even more so! Still, despite many the many hardships and obstacles she has faced, she is still hopeful and a total sweetheart. She just wants a settled life and live her with her closest pack mates.
I have definitely put her though the ringer a lot, emotionally and even explored just several internal things with her. I know Danielle is meant to be me in a sense, but personality and emotional wise, I am more like this lovely Angel. Best girl and everyone loves her!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Second is definitely Danielle (my BsD self insert). Personally, because I have started to embrace her and give her more of my personality and who I really am. Still keeping her as her own person with her struggles, in some aspects, but giving her more of me as well. She has definitely allowed me to have some more self love for myself. Even if it is come and go on most days. She has just grown to be more of a gradual part of me in the recent years since I got into Bsd. I truly love her as she gives me a reason to embrace the parts of me I never would have considered so much or even just not like about me.
Self shipping has definitely also helped, I just love Dany very much and hold her close, please she may be stubborn but she is hella fragile ;;;w;;;
Tumblr media Tumblr media
22. Is there any OC of yours people tend to mischaracterize? If yes, how?
Hm, I wouldn't say anyone has mischaracterized my characters so much that I know of, maybe my parents whenever there is a moment they see my Oc’s and just make a judgement on them on the spot lol.
I suppose me mischaracterizing my OCs would probably be the Seven Deadly Soul Sins? Maybe ^^, These seven, practically, ghost entities of the Seven Deadly Sins are meant to be perceived as the worst possible people/wolves. Their existence is the reason people do bad things and are the negative contrast to the Legendary Wolf Warriors.
Take an old, unfinished draw of all 7 of them together~
Tumblr media
I know what they are, how they behave, what their very existence and presence entails. However, I have come to the bad tendency of redemption in my line of story telling, I often find myself back and forth whether there is any redeemable qualities that should be given to them considering their very existence and such. Envy, or Evelyn, is one that I can definitely see having something on that accord, but she is still at her core bad.
Tumblr media
I don't know if I am saying this correctly or even answering the question well lol. But yeah, I say my Deadly Sin OC’s often can be mischaracterized in a way. I can definitely picture them being top favs if my story was an actual thing. I support the fans in all they come lol ^^
 23. Introduce OC that has changed from your first idea concerning what the character would be like?
I can't think of one I changed too much out of concern for what they are like that I can remember to be quite honest ^^,
I guess maybe Wisler? I know when I first came up with the start up concept of the LWW, I never intended for him to be a previous Warrior. It was always meant to be Dany’s Aunt who possessed it and Wisler was just a precautious elder wolf who needed to teach her to better her powers, less she gives it up like his daughter had.
Of course, the whole concept and idea, just gives way for him to have been a possible warrior in the past. If anything I just the developed the idea more and made it more of a tragedy for Wisler. Normally, the concept of being a LWW is meant to be a blessing, a gift bestowed by a greater power, but to him, after giving up his power and remaining upon the world, he just sees it as a curse. Pride only solidified that into his mind. Nonetheless, he becomes a mentor to the other warriors to better themselves and keep them from giving up their power.
Second, was more of a momentary interest in the Chronicles of Narnia and being ever so salty about Susan being left behind, while her family died and went to Narnia ;;;w;;;
Silly thing really, but literally chose, out of all the warriors, Lidia to be the one to be left alive, from whatever scenario I had at the time, because she refused her soul gift of the LWW’s. It was a momentary silly concept, I don't know why I would chose her for this scenario at all, she doesn’t deserve that ;;w;;
If anything, the ones that I can picture are Yamato and Danielle, just because of their mental state and emotional turmoil under such a heavy weight of loss. It was a silly concept I had thought of once, and just cry little at the thought ;;w;;
24. If you could meet one OC of yours, who would it be and why?
Heck, I would love to meet all of them... and heavy apologize for all the hell I've put them all through ;;;w;;;
But Jason~ most definitely...Not cause I self ship myself with him or anything but UwU,,, He is a sweetheart and a beautiful boi ~ I want to love him and give him a soft life pls.
Tumblr media
26. Have you ever had to change your OC’s design or something else about them against your will?
Ahh,,, All of them, in a way? ^^; my middle self was something else entirely~
I think design wise, most if not all my warriors, are still the same. Maybe just a few new upgrades in their fur shade, colored eyes, and maybe their human designs too. Most definitely will change more in the future, just for the sake of bettering myself to draw people.
Tumblr media
Old, high school art~ Cringe
Any new design change is purely out of being in a more better mindset of design and just development of what make them unique. I have definitely changed all of their Soul Markings, I have changed Lidia’s name from Leafia recently, Taka’s formerly sky blue eyes to more of a pale green, Sora’s former tail scar to the claw ones on her shoulder, etc.
Origin, personality and relation wise on the other hand, GRADUAL SHIFT! Some points:
Sora, Yamato, and Takaru are heavily inspired by the Digimon Adventure kids of the same name, I kept their surnames of the ones from the series for a long time into at most Junior Year of High School. Til I learned, if I want to make them my own, I have to change this entirely!
So Sora, Yamato, and Takaru are definitely different entirely from their original selves, personality and kind of design wise.
Sam was kind of meant to be like Kari from Digimon in a way, but heavily refused to name her that or make her in similarity of the character.
Another Oc of mine named Jacob Wolfe was originally going to be the Warrior of Earth before I came up with Lidia.
There was originally meant to be just 5 Warriors, Lidia and Jason not yet part of it and, surprisingly, neither was Danielle.
Jason was originally named Damien and was kind of, for a while, Danielle’s twin sibling... Changed that drastically and entirely after renaming him to Jason.
Originally, had some other mythical beasts living amongst them in the Forest of Dreams, like dragons and gryphons for a while.
Originally, played with the idea of the warriors coming back to life if they didn't give up their powers, but... after much though it just became more of a “too cheesy of choice?” Especially for an ending thing before the next generation kids come in, it was just not an option after a while.
These are just some that I can think of at the top of my head at least, I am sure there is much more scrap things in my mind lol.
32. Which one of your OCs would be the most suitable horror game protagonist and why?
...God I don't want any of them to fecking die grueso-(I should shut my mouth actually),,, even though I will admit I did internally put my warriors into a shitty thought-out idea of them in a Final Destination scenario...
Ahh, may Yamato in a way as that stoic, hardened protagonist with the will too try and survive, Wrath is his counter self sin, I find that fitting in a way. Same with Jason, just because of his slight nativity to being a warrior and how he left his former abusive living from his alpha and stepfather. Oddly enough, maybe Sam? Just because of her ability to see the worst things to happen in the future, but I am not sure lol.
Am thinking of the new Resident Evil game I see floating around with some gamer youtubers and I can see Yamato and/or Jason in the position and setting.
—✨——✨——✨—
I truly enjoyed all these questions! It gave me time to think and reflect on my ocs! I do hope you enjoy some old, blurred and unfinished art from ya wolf girl~ I truly appreciate this and gives me the feels of validation! ;;;w;;;

#Memento Mori
So, I guess this is my story. I wanted to write this during the stream but my dyslexia forbays me from being able to write and listen to two completely unrealed things at the same time, and I couldn't bring myself to pull away, so here it is, nice and late ^^;
- - - - - -
Well, I was late to the party like most things in my life. I found the channel at 16 days to go thanks to MatPatt's theory.  I haven't watched all 369 videos. My last count put me at 100 and something, maybe 150 ish. I did concider pulling an allnighter the night before to watch all of the remaining ones but I chose against it in the end. I'm happy with the memories I have and not seeing all the videos, because those videos I did watch I'll treasure forever; bing watching them while despritly trying to finish my Level 3 Design board for school.
Working away on Clipstudio paint, and in the corner of my eye laughing, crying, rolling my eyes at the chaios that was unfolding while my wrist screamed at me, my head hurt....I was so sure I was going to burn out again like the two years prior and not manged to finish, but you're videos gave me the strength to do the impossible.  If you guys could make over 365 videos in a year, I could finish x2 A1 pannels worth of art and...I did. To a good standard too. I won my schools Top Visual Artist award yesterday at prize giving and top of my Design class.
At first I saw the channel as nothing more than a bit of shit posting, so I wasn't too bothered. A bit of random nonses (It took me soooo long to convince my self to watch cooking with Sex toys, but it was one of the greatest laughs of my month if not longer). The last few months have been hard on me, my family have been waiting 4 and half years to get NZ residency and missing all the Uni application dates and schollarships has had me quite down the last few months listening to everyone around talking about there future plans while I can't progress with mine, because my GOD have you seen international fees???Anyway, your shit posts really helped bring a smile to my face while I was struggling, especailly the halloween stuff: I loved the edward sissors hands, it was the first one I watched and I still love it- so plan and utterly dumb. I'm doing better now. It's still hard, but I really think your videos have have helped me so much.
I think the video which hit hardest for me and acutally helped me to really understand what the channel was about was the hypnotist one with the lemon.  What the lady said to both of you really, really hit home hard for me- I'd be lying if I said I didn't cry my eyes out.
Ethan, your story hit home for me because I also went through that as a kid. I was bullied so badly as a kid. Told I was nothing, would be nothing- I have dsylexia too, and I stunk in school for the longest time; bottom of every class, made to take lessons to learn how to put a wooden alphabet together forward and backwards in YEAR 6 (I was 12 and could do so just fine, but the teachers obviously didn't think so). I've been reserved, shy, had the most crippling self of steem issuse for all my life and only in the last few years since moving to NZ I've started to recover and regain some of that confidence I lost; had broken.
"If there was a little girl inside who hurt, who had a discomfort, imagine sitting next to that younger version of you that was in pain or hurt and let her know that she's safe. That little girl looks up to you, trusting you to keep her safe: You're safe." -Unus Annus, 294:11:34:20
It really hit me so hard because I needed someone to tell me this as a kid, hold me close, tell me everything would be ok when I thought my world was crashing down and listing to these words I saw my current self giving back what she needed. And now when I'm scard, doubting myself I see her, I see both of them, current me and past me holding hands and me giving her the support she needs. I have a illustration I made on my desk with the quote, as a reminder when times get tought and that little girl forgetts she's not alone anymore.
Mark, your story also hit home with me too.  Like I mentioned, I have dyslexia and for me english -mostly writting- has always been a major problem which had held me back, like a brick chained to my leg and I have to hike up this moutain with it. I still remember disnictly this one time in science I lost out on a high mark because I couldn't spell auoghaous (oesophagus- still can't XD) and my teacher wouldn't believe that was what I had tried to write. I was so bitter about that for the longest time, I still am, 6 years on and still remeber it like yesterday. Anyway, the reason your story hit home is because it reminded me of my old english teacher and what she did to me. Made me into the person I am now. I was in Year 8 (14 years old) and at a parents meeting infront of my dad she said, "you're daughter will never ger higher than a 5- in english. This crushed me so much, because a -5 is avarage for a Year 6 and at this level I should have been getting 5+/6 (like everyone else in my class) - fucking dyslexia. It's like a brick wall of titainium when you're a kid.
I don't know what happened but something in me snapped and I was determained to prove her wrong. I had that teacher for 2 years before I left to NZ (from the UK) and never ONCE did she give me a mark higher than 5- (mostly because the Brittish system require good spelling to reacher 5, something which again, my dyslexia was against and at the time computers weren't a thing in my school as a resorse for dyslexic kids like myself). It sucked, but I kept trying to prove her wrong. I studied, practiced, revised hard and then in my last exam, an external she didn't mark I got a 7+ for reading and 7- for writting with an 8+ being the highest. I proved her wrong.  I proved a lot of people wrong. I kept working hard and now I'm near the top of every class I take. You're story reminded me of myself and why I keep pushing myself. Why I continue to drive to achieve the best I can. Be the best person I can.
I know this is long, so before I wrap up I wanted to say thank you. You're channel has not only helped some of my old traumas heal, but I also have a much greater appreciation for life which I guess is crazy concidering I was only apart of it for 16 days, but...it really has made an impact to me. I don't think I ever relised how valuble life is. How important every second is. Death and moving on has always scared me. Moving to NZ and leaving everything I knew and had behind has been one of my biggest trumas for the last 4 years, learning to let go and move on- I use to hate change- ,but now I think I can accept it and move on. I've just finished my last year of high school, I have to make this drastic change in mylife again, moving on, going to uni one day, but I'm ready for it. "Death gives life meaning"; the end, moving on, give the past meaning and means being able to except and be ready to imbrase the future that's coming. Whether in the next few seconds, minutes, hours, weeks, months years... I really do feel better prepared for it.
I hate the end, I've been writting a story now for 3 years and I've been scared of how to end it, I've been avoiding it because I love the characters. I don't want them to go, to end, but now. I think I'm willing to acept the fact that maybe it's time I let them go. Write them the end they deserve and move on. Nothing last forever, all great story are great because like the channel it's the ending which gives them meaning.
So...thank you guys, Mark, Ethan, everyone behind the camera. You're work has really made a possitive impact in my life, escpecally the hynpotist video, so thank you. I'm going to start treasuring every second, making every millifractal of a second count. I've been torn for the longest time between a stable career in science, or a dream career in art. And I'm gonna go for it. I'll take the risk, the gamble, shoot for the stars and if I miss I miss. Atleast I can say I tried to do what made me happy and when I do succed it'll be even more rewarding to know I did the impossible. So thank you, I'll treasure every memory and the page of quote I have from todays live stream.
“Every second is a chance to turn your life around."
"When you get those ideas in your head say YES! You never know how you're going to suprise yourself."
"Death gives life meaning."
"Don't cry because its over, cry because it happened."
"Don't take any second for granted, don't waist any moment."
"It's easy to live life in wants and desires, but it's making every second count that matters. Do what makes you happy, use every second wisely, you'll never get that time back."
And my own personal quote, because I want to give back the wisdom you've shared with my own:
"Memento Mori - Remeber death. Embrace it, don't fear it. Live life to it's fullest and take every opportunity that comes your way, because death is a promise, not a bargain. Life the life you want, so you can move on without regret. "
"Life tough and scary, 2020 for sure, but regardless I smile. Laugh in fears face, it happens. Laugh at the problems in life, they happen. Laugh at how close life comes to and continues to fail at killing you. Fill every moment with joy and positivity; we all need more of it in life."
"Bad days are like cloudy skies, they come and go. The weather can get stormy, but the sky will always clear eventually, the sun will shine again."

OKAY SO, I finally went to see the new Cats movie in theaters.  I wanted to give myself a bit to collect my thoughts, because HOO BOY are there thoughts.  Not terrible ones though...like my reviews of everything else, I gave it a look with a level head.
Because I can’t really review without spoilers, I’m going to put my thoughts under a cut.  Read at your own peril.
Now, I’d promised myself ages ago that I’d go into the movie with an open mind and a clear head.  I’d already seen reviews that were divided greatly on it (mostly between people who’d already seen Cats on stage and those that have never seen it ever), but as usual it’s a good idea to have your own opinion.
That said.
I loved it.
The weird part is, at first, I came away from it thinking that I didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought I would.  But everything about it from the visuals to the music (especially the new song, I’ll get to that in a bit) and the story, all of it was still sticking with me after I left the theater, and I began loving it more in hindsight than I did sitting there in the moment, if that makes sense.
Cats has always been one of those shows that breaks quite a few rules of what people think a show should be.  More an opera than a musical, more a dance/ballet performance than a story, with a look that allows the audience to use their imaginations, and as such can put more than a few people off of it.  It’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but despite that, it’s memorable, and has a great following.  The movie seemed to try to take that feeling from the stage show, strange and mystifying and daunting (maybe even a bit awkward), yet charming and inspiring and heart-catching.  In many ways it succeeded, and some ways it didn’t...and where it didn’t was probably mostly the fault of the presentation.  And of course, opinions are going to vary wildly on it.
But anyway, for those that know and love the show, it’s a good idea to see this one as just another production, an alternate canon, because you can’t compare each production to each other (much less a movie to a stage show), as that’s where an adaptation fails in everyone’s minds.  This one seemed to take inspiration from the original 1981 production and build a new story from the ground up, while of course still keeping the music and songs that everyone loves.  The lyrics of some of the songs do call back to the original production (the version of Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer used was from that one, and not from the 1998 video and subsequent performances, which I found surprising; but not displeasing, they did it very well), and while I was a little disappointed that Jemima/Sillabub wasn’t an important character as she is in the stage show, I remember Lloyd Webber at first wanting a kitten character with both Victoria’s dance prowess and Jemima’s singing prowess, who embodies the show as a whole.  He got what he wanted in movie form with Victoria, and they took the character to a whole different direction than the original, which was interesting.
So, to sum up, one can see this movie as an adaptation of the original ideas for the stage show.  It isn’t my personal canon concept, but it’s one I ended up liking just as much.  Now, here are my personal likes and dislikes.
Dislikes: The background characters aren’t given as much personality as they are on stage, or at least, aren’t shown as much personality; and with many of them taking on different designs, it’s hard to tell who’s who until you see the credits, where everyone’s named.  You only ever know a few of the main characters, their own stories, and that’s it.  Not even Munkustrap gets named directly, and he’s still got his role as the sort-of narrator and introduction to the world of the Jellicles.  Of course, this is probably a minor grudge, as background characters can’t be as prevalent in a movie version without it going on longer than needed.  But, at least they’re still there, and still lend their charm to the setting, and perhaps in subsequent watches I’ll be able to see more of who everyone is and what they’re doing.
Still, leaving characters in the background also means leaving various character relationships behind, save for the main ones.  Demeter, who in the stage show is still an ensemble character (but an important one for the subplot of Macavity), has been downgraded to another of many minor characters; Cassandra now mostly fills the role of a forefront ensemble singer, and nobody really seems to have anything that connects one to another emotionally.  Basically it was like the relationships common to many of the productions were ret-conned or tossed altogether; the focus is on the main characters.  But again, another minor grievance, as it is a movie, and a separate production, and no production is canon...and we still have our imaginations to go on. X3
Also, personally, I disliked that they made Bombalurina evil.  On stage, though she’s presented as the “good-bad girl”, attractive and seductive, she’s still a beloved part of the ensemble, friend to quite a few of the queens, and protective in a sisterly way over Demeter.  “Macavity” is meant as a duet with the two warning the others of his malevolent deeds; in the movie, she’s not seen until nearly the end, and the song is sung in praise of him while helping him bring the Ball to a halt.  It was a good number, though, and the different take on the character probably had to be there plot-wise...but still, IMHO the character deserves better.
Plus, it’s no wonder why Munkustrap was thought boring by his actor; they didn’t really give him his “protector” role.  The fight with Macavity is taken out entirely.  Again, Munk as a character also deserves better.
Also, Jennyanydots deserves better. X3 She’s presented as a comedy-relief character, and honestly I think they tried a little too hard with that, along with Bustopher Jones; both of their segments were a tad cringey to me...but theirs were the only ones, really.  The music in them was still superb, it was just the way they were presented.  They could have probably just stuck Bustopher with the comic-relief role (as he is somewhat in the stage show), and that would’ve been sufficient.
I believe those were my only grievances.  Now let’s get to what I liked.
THE MUSIC, first of all.  STILL awesome.  I feel like, really, the movie kept in what made the stage show important...and as with musicals, that was keeping the tones of the beloved songs, from the overture at the beginning all the way to The Ad-dressing of Cats.  That plus the impressive dancing.  I could still catch some little bits of choreography from the stage show in them, although mainly it was all revamped for the movie...but they kept the music, so that’s the biggest point (though some were edited down a bit to make time for dialogue; understandable, still).  Skimbleshanks’ number has to be the most impressive, by far.
Adding to this, the new song, Beautiful Ghosts, written together by Lloyd Webber and Taylor Swift.  Wow. You can tell they made a song that would really fit into the show...it’s haunting and sad, and yet hopeful, and the more I listen to it with Victoria’s story in mind, the more I tear up. It’s brilliant.
The story, I also liked.  I admit, it has to be hard to try and make a plot out of a musical that has a fairly bare-bones presentation to it, and is mostly comprised of songs adapted from a poetry book about cats.  There are many ways they probably could have taken the plot, but they did it very well, in my opinion; plus they still kept the most important events from the stage show: Grizabella’s redemption arc, and Macavity’s trying to derail things, straight down to kidnapping Old Deuteronomy and her being brought back through Mistofelees’ magic; I love how that bit was presented, too.  He and the others are expecting a grandiose magic return, and instead it’s off-screen and softly sung, and as the music swells from solemn to joyous, you know it’s just as magical all the same.
I knew that Growltiger would make an appearance in this, but I didn’t realize he’d be made his own character, when in the play, he’s a character that Gus the Theater Cat played in the past...only the first few lines of his song was sung, too.  But at least they kept his appearance from the play, down to the “somewhat-missing” ear. X3 That bit was clever, I liked it.
Also, Victoria and Mistofelees are adorable as heck in this one, can’t lie.  XD
Speaking of the characters, the casting too is pretty great.  Robert Fairchild, I could see actually playing Munkustrap on stage.  He has the same cadence and comforting tone of voice and is a lovely singer. Sir Ian Mckellan, I couldn’t see anyone else playing Gus (he even has a very similar voice to the original 1981 cast member)...and Taylor Swift did make a good Bombalu, if in appearance and voice. X3  And of course we can’t forget Francesca Hayward’s performance as Victoria; hope to see her career expand.  Dame Judi Dench made a very regal Deuteronomy (and yes, the thought of a female Deut has grown on me), and it’s good to see that she got to be in Cats, knowing her history.  And as predicted, Idris Elba made a pretty sinister Macavity. X3
So, all in all?
This movie probably gets so many negative reviews from the general public, because most of the general public has never seen the musical, and really don’t know what to make of the adaptation. X3 This is definitely not for anyone who doesn’t like musical theater, let alone Cats...I feel that the movie was only made with the true fans in mind.  And that’s just fine; not everything has to cater to the public at large, because if you try to do that, it’s not really a passion project. Cats has always been unique, and still is, and there are people out there who very much appreciate the hard work that has been put into it.  The sets are phenomenal.  The CGI could use work, but for an experimental style, it was done pretty well (yes, it’s possible to get past the uncanny-valley looks of the characters, at least it was for me, because they didn’t bother me in the first place).  It shows that they tried hard to stay true to the spirit of the stage show, while also putting something completely new into it.  And I think they nailed the spirit, which is the important thing in an adaptation: the spirit.
There’s a few things that could be changed, namely in presentation overall...they could have used another director, to be honest...but the casting, the music, the dancing...heck, some of the designs...that’s all good.  Actually it’s funny to me to observe how easy it is to make a musical-type movie into a stage show, a-la The Lion King, but how hard it is to do it the other way around. XP
Would I watch it again?  Heck yes.  Buy the DVD?  Heck yes (especially once they’ve put out the full version).  Does it hold up to other productions?  No, but I didn’t expect it to; it’s a movie.  They took all the essential things and rebuilt it, simple as that.
And so, overall, I give the movie a score of 3.5 out of 5.  It’s not my canon, but it’s still good, and you can ignore the hell out of the reviewers, they’re all plebs. XD
Thank you, my dears!

Winter 2018 Final Impressions
I’m a month late, as usual (whoops!), but here’s my final thoughts on the animes I watched this past season!
The “reviews” will be in alphabetical order!
3-gatsu no Lion S2 - 9.0 / 10 (A)
This second season of 3-gatsu was great! It’s just… a really great drama show about fighting depression (& a bunch of other character storylines)!
First off... THE BULLYING ARC WAS REALLY GOOD
extremely complicated, emotionally complex… this arc brings all sorts of emotions & angles into the forefront
multiple perspectives too: Hina’s, Rei’s, the bullied girl’s, the bully’s, the teachers’, and Akari too!
The art style can pull off both thick-outlined / bright colored style and watercolor-esque style incredibly well
it really is beautiful how it can visually portray both light-hearted and emotionally intense scenes
This season continues to show how good it is at character development for characters both main & supporting!
We get to see Rei moving through the ranks as a shogi player
and also moving through the ranks of conquering his depression! He’s improved more than ever before!
We get to learn about the white-haired master player (Souya); I liked how he has his own quicks and challenges he has in his daily life
Along with the other head shogi guy (Yanagihara)! (& how he shoulders his legacy for his friends)
Even the last episode offered some perspective from the foster mom about Rei & her kids
this show is just… really good at making normally-hated characters sympathetic, hot damn
Aside from bullying arc, this season also showed Hina preparing for the transition to high school
The finale episode was nice and sweet, with Hina saying goodbye to Takahashi and even getting a haircut!
This continues to be one of the best drama anime in recent years! Not to mention SHAFT’s best show since Madoka Magica :3
Cardfight!! Vanguard G: Z - 7.5 - 8.0 / 10 (C+)
And so ends the G series of Cardfight Vanguard… this final season I’ll say though is kind of a mixed bag
The plot had interesting ideas and moments at times, but the execution and pacing left a bit to be desired
though I will say it was definitely better than last season (CFV G NEXT)
This season didn’t waste any time getting to the main plot, as Chrono has to face off against a Diffrider right away
the diffrider stuff is continued from last season, but for the most part, it’s a new plot kicking off!
The rollout of all the new Diffrider Apostles (& them showing their strength) definitely made them look like powerful foes
not to mention the Zeroth Dragons, which were also shown to be powerful and very risky to use
Also knowing that anyone in the main cast could end up being The Vessel added some intrigue as well
the reveal that Kazuma would be the vessel definitely was a well executed twist imo~
However the pacing in places felt a bit too fast for me… the Relics subplot felt like it wrapped up too quickly, for example
the final fight against Gyze also kinda felt rushed… Gyze didn’t even have any dying words after his defeat :/
As a final season specifically, I feel like it kinda pales in comparison to Stride Gate, unfortunately
The cast was also kinda hit and miss in terms of how well they were utilized in the plot
some of the apostles definitely had more screen time than others (gredora only got like… two episodes)
plus gastille (the supposed apostle leader) got beaten sooner than like 3 other ones???
some villains carry over from last season too, such as Noa (Chaos Breaker) and the red-head punk kid
I liked all the new villains this season, personality-wise! (Also Yukari Tamura in there is a plus)
also no Am and Luna this season, really…
the previously established OG cast were integrated fine, for the most part
including Aichi and Kai getting the kill against Chaos Breaker Dragon
but the final episodes kinda just shoe-horn in a bunch of cameos that just didn’t feel natural :/
it just felt like “OH SHIT, this is the last season actually! Quick, throw in a bunch of cameos!”
this also applies to G characters, which makes less utilized characters (like Am & Luna, as mentioned before) look out of place :(
Sure, I’m saying a bunch of negative stuff right now, but I REALLY LOVE THIS CAST… I JUST WANT THE BEST FOR THEM
It’s the main reason I love CFV G, after all~
This season was definitely an improvement over NEXT for sure! The plot was interesting, I just wish the conclusion was better
The final episode basically just felt like an OVA, really… aside from the last scene, it didn’t really feel like an epilogue at all
I guess it just bums me out bc the original series got a good epilogue episode, so I know they could do it here, too…
In any case, I’M GONNA MISS THIS CAST, BIG TIME ;A;
In any case, this was a decent season to end the G series with! Not the strongest, but not the weakest either.
I’m gonna look back on my time with CFV G fondly for sure, if for nothing else than the great ensemble cast :’)
It’s gonna be weird going back to the OG cast for sure… I arguably liked the G cast better than the OG one :’D
Osomatsu-san S2 - 8.0  / 10 (B)
The consensus among fans seems to be that this season wasn’t as good as the first season
As for me, I… probably agree with that (though I still enjoyed this season!)
As with most comedy anime, whether the jokes land is pretty subjective. I feel like I didn’t laugh as hard this season? IDK
There were more “seasonal/holiday”-based episodes this time around (i.e. summer, new year’s, etc.)
What stays the same though is that this show is at its best when featuring the main brothers themselves
Skits involving the side characters (like Iyami, Dayon, etc.) didn’t make me laugh much…
I will say though that I enjoyed the second half of the season more than the first half~
Enough about the negatives, let’s talk about this season’s memorable skits / episodes!
The premiere was really good, as it poked fun at the huge popularity the show unexpectedly got xD
plus a bunch of references that *aren’t* gonna get them removed from streaming sites this time!
Jyushimatsu getting an “apprentice” with a little kid was also pretty funny~
The Karamatsu taxi skit, the spooky inn, & all the characters being stuck on an island were also good skits!
Ep. 18 (Iyami, Alone in the Wind) was also a crowd favorite, since it brought the feels for a change :’)
The finale 2-parter pulled a bait-and-switch yet again!
Part 1 was actually pretty serious, but the actual finale just has them trying to break out of hell xD
OH YEAH, I still really like the live-action stuff they do during the ending sequences
the first half’s ED was my favorite (the stop-motion of the brothers riding in the car)
I don’t have much to say about comedies generally, but Osomatsu-san is still my favorite in recent years ^^
Even though this season didn’t hit as hard as S1, it still provided some fun laughs~
Pop Team Epic - 7.5 / 10 (C+)
What can I really say about this show? It kind of defies description ^^;
Ok, yeah, it’s a sketch comedy, but it’s a really… crazy and random sketch comedy
The jokes are hit and miss (and in my experience was a bit more… miss than hit)
I never really laughed out loud at this show either
but then again, the humor here is more “being confused at what’s going on, but going along with it anyway”
There’s also a lot of modern anime references, so you might not get those jokes if you don’t follow most recent anime
Each episode has a long skit in it, plus a bunch of bite-size skits
I personally preferred the short skits over the long ones
There were a couple song parodies which I enjoyed (including the Earth Wind & Fire parody)
Also, this series definitely benefits from having an English simuldub! Some skits I found funnier in English!
OH YEAH, the voice actors (in both languages) change every episode, with female and male VAs in each episode
that enhanced the enjoyability of the sketches too, since I liked hearing favorite VAs do silly dialogue and performances!
I wouldn’t say this ranks among my favorite anime comedies, but it’s definitely unlike any other I’ve seen! ^^;
Your mileage will *definitely* vary with this one, so give it a try and see if it’s for you!
The Ancient Magus’ Bride (Mahoutsukai no Yome) - 8.5 - 9 / 10 (A-)
This was a very enjoyable fantasy drama show! Some people feel this show was overhyped, but I still thought it was really good!
I really liked the cast overall, especially Chise
She has really good character development throughout the show! She really becomes more strong and confident!
Seeing the fantastical world through her eyes was interesting as well!
Especially since those mystical elements were also responsible for her terrible childhood…
Elias was also an interesting guy… he and Chise have an interesting relationship together
Their relationship definitely has aspects that are unhealthy, but they do grow closer to each other by the end
If people can’t get past the whole premise of “him buying Chise to be his bride” though, I totally understand ^^;
They help each other learn too, which I liked to see
The supporting cast was also enjoyable! Not much to say about them individually though
The dragon keeper was nice and we got to learn about Elias’ origins through him
The dragons in general were great! Especially the old one that turned into a tree :’)
He gives Chise some good sage advice, even after death :’)
Angelica, Silky, and Stella (among others, like the other anti-hero duo) were good support characters too~
I liked Stella’s role of “normal girl who learns of the supernatural’s existence”
Cartaphilus was an… okay villain, I guess (though his methods were quite creepy indeed, which added some intrigue)
Some character designs are a bit questionable though… like who approved the vampire’s design? ^^;
Another large appeal of this was the world building of the fantastical elements!
I liked seeing all the different types of locales & supernatural creatures, both good and bad
As a low-fantasy show, this show does a Dang Good Job with the fantasy!
Chise learning more about herself and gaining confidence through these experiences were a highlight as well
I enjoyed each story arc as well, even though most of them were more explorative and introspective
This show can be dang beautiful sometimes, through both its art/animation and its stories (Thanks, Studio WIT!)
Some were better than others, but they all deliver either a heartwarming (or a dark) story
Some favorites of mine were the dragon-based ones, and the vampire loving the old man
The finale was good too! It’s unknown whether this conclusion is anime-original or not, but it was definitely a good S1 ending~
If you love low-fantasy shows, this is definitely one to check out!
Violet Evergarden - 8.5 - 9.0 / 10 (A-)
Best *new* anime (that I watched) of this past season, hands down~
Though to be fair, I still need to watch A Place Farther than the Universe… and Yuru Camp… and After the Rain…
Going into this season, this show was hyped and back and somehow… a lot of people were *disappointed* with this show?
I think it had to do with expecting a different show than what we got; as for me, I knew it’d be an episodic drama the whole time :P
But yes, this show has a (mostly) episodic plot with an overarching character arc. If that’s too slow for you, then you probably won’t like this show.
In any case, back to the positives! The first one being how good this show looks visually… as expected from KyoAni~
there’s so much detail in the backgrounds and the character elements (especially the lighting on objects like Violet’s metal hands)
this aspect is one thing *everyone* agrees on regardless, so… yeah, this show’s really pretty!
The main star (and focus) of this show was Violet herself… you can really see how she changes for the better from beginning to end
You get to see how “robot-like” she was at the start of the show, but she slowly learns about dealing with emotions of others… and herself
This character arc is definitely the “main” plot of the show, along with her coming to terms with Gilbert’s death and her war killings
The episodic plots were good in their own right, too!
Ranging from Violet’s start as a Memoir Doll to the different clients she works with, they all teach her something along the way
These sometimes focus on the side characters working at the Doll Agency too, so we get to learn more about them as well
The one that comes to mind first is Iris’ episode, where she (messily) reconnects with a former lover
Not all of them get a full episode in the spotlight, but they do get some focus scenes from time to time
Violet’s clientele episodes were the most memorable out of this lot IMO
ESPECIALLY EPISODE 10… that was the BIGGEST feels trip
I knew exactly how the episode was going to end, but I still teared up at that ending!
The finale was action packed, but also was a beautiful way to show how far Violet has come
I know some people’s issue with this show is that “it doesn’t know what show it wants to be” re: the action stuff, but I was fine with it personally
in any case, it was a pretty good book-end for Violet’s development, since she finally understands (a least a little) what “I love you” means :’)
I understand certain people’s gripes with this show, but this really is a great little drama show that *will* deliver the feels~
P.S. I also watched Fate/Extra: Last Encore this season. It hasn’t technically ended yet, so I can’t give final impressions on it right now. However, my current score for it is a 7.5/10 (C+).

Fate/stay night [Heaven’s Feel] 1. presage flower - Ren’s review
Tumblr media
Alright, it’s been a long time since I reviewed an anime, let alone an anime movie, but dang, this movie is the sole reason I got into fate series. I even get to invest myself into Unlimited Blade Works (the ufotable one, I aint gonna touch the DEEN version ever], Fate/Zero and even tried the visual novel just for the sake of gaining the full main Fate experience.
Without further ado, everything is under the cut for viewing pleasure.
For starters, Heaven’s Feel (HF for short) route is preferably enjoyed if you played the visual novel firsthand, especially after you completed Fate (Saber’s route) and Unlimited Blade Works (Rin’s route, I’m gonna call this route UBW for short). Because this route carries a bunch of stuff from the previous two routes. If you start from this route, it’ll leave you confused. Like, really.
Also, the visual novel has stuff that the anime adaptation left out but if you’re not the person to spend hours and hours playing visual novel, then you’re only left with the OG Fate/stay night anime (the 2006 DEEN version, adapted Fate route btw) and the UBW anime by ufotable (came out in 2014). I personally haven’t seen the 2006 F/sn anime bcos I heard bad stuff coming from the original adaptation (cough cough). On the other hand, the UBW is quite good (bless ufotable for their splendid direction, but I’ll save my praises for this studio below) and I personally like it because of Shirou and Rin >:3c
Anyways, onto the main point.
Story [10/10] - Not trying to be biased just because this route is my favourite story-wise, but I love where the story is heading. I like how the director, Tomonori Sudou, change some parts of the story to make the beginning of the route less boring contrary to the VN.
The temple attack, where originally in the VN, Shirou and Saber heads there to investigate only to find Team Caster wiped out was removed to give a more unsettling feeling.
The ‘wet dreams’ scene, I must say, it’s very ‘interesting’ in its own way. Without adding the explicit scenes, they are able to execute the scene in an ‘interesting’ way. I honestly prefer this version compared to the censored version and the explicit version in the VN (I just replayed this route for the good ending with the H-mod on and I honestly cannot stop laughing bcos of how unconfortable this scene is, even though it was a scene involving Rin XD).
I also love how the movie begins with how Shirou and Shinji’s friendship got ruined, and how Sakura met Shirou. It’s a nice touch to see how things begin. And the scenes involving Shinji and Shirou fighting makes it feel so heartbreaking. Also, I love how the movie adaptation really makes the story feel like it revolves around Shirou and Sakura.
I also love how the story concluded with a bittersweet cliffhanger; Shirou returned injured and Saber disappeared, brief scene of Rin looking terrified as she discovers the underground room at the Matou residence, Shinji prepping up for that certain scene in the next part, and Illya bracing up for her next move.
Art [10/10] - Ahh yes, more praise for Director Sudou, who’s also in charge of the character designs. I like how smooth the artwork is, and bonus points for ripped Shirou bcos, heck yeah, he is ripped (the VNs, though inconsistent when it comes to him, but there are scenes where they reveal a peek on his ripped body >:3c), contrary to the UBW adaptation where they make him look slightly lean but fit.
Also, Sakura is so lovely here (fun fact: she’s the director’s best girl), and Rin, contrary to UBW, she looks more cool and less-dorky to set her aside from being the main girl (but she’s still the core cast of the series).
I like how some of the gritty scenes were made even more gritty here to reflect how dark this route is. Like, they show all the thrown out organs and stuff and reveal them like no tomorrow. I’m not a fan of gore but hey, can I say it’s ‘cool’?
Animation [10/10] - Hoo boy, where do I begin? I have too many praises for ufotable, send help.
Smooth animation, epic VFX and compositing, improved photorealistic lighting and utilizing 3D into 2D animation. Dang, can I apply an internship here?
I’m really a sucker for all this cool cheese. The battle scenes’ animation are especially stellar, as always from ufotable. I cannot say anything much beyond this. Also, some of the daily life scenes, like the part where Sakura was cutting vegetables, it was smoothly animated. I can see that they’re really working hard on.
I can praise a thousand times to Ufotable Digital Team for improving their VFX and compositing. This is my absolute favourite thing about this studio. I can see how much they improved ever since they worked on UBW anime. I’ve seen a few clips of Tales of Zestiria the X and Katsugeki Touken Ranbu and dang, they’re really showing it here at long last.
Anyways, I want to praise them for the Lancer VS True Assassin scene. I like how they integrate 3D for the backgrounds and camera with the 2D animation for the fight scenes. It was really cool.
Music [10/10] - I don’t usually concentrate much on the music while I’m watching it, but when I listen to the OST first hand, I can really feel it.
Yuki Kajiura did a great job setting the mood for each scenes. Some of the melancholic scenes makes it feel so heartbreaking, and the last scene almost made me cry because of the music. I hope she returns for composing Part 2 because recently, she left her agent. The ending theme, which was sung by Aimer is quite nice. I like how some of the tracks for the movie were a remix from the theme itself. I’ve loved her songs since I listened to ‘Rokutousei no Yoru’ (no. 6′s ED theme) and this one is among her best of recently, after Brave Shine (UBW anime’s 2nd OP theme).
PS: Somehow I want Kalafina to sing the next movie’s ending theme but we’ll see. (given the recent news that one of their members left the group...)
Overall, my verdict is:
10/10
As a fan of this route, it was a great adaptation so far. I really like where this route is going, and I really can’t wait for Part 2, which will be even more interesting as that part will focus even more secrets of Sakura. I ain’t spoiling what they are but you’ll just see it for yourself.
Alright, I guess that’s it for my review. See you in Part 2 - Lost Butterfly (next year, bcos I doubt it’ll be screened here)

Vivaldi - Die Fünfte Jahreszeit: Non-Spoiler Review
Hey guys! So, as I said in my previous post, I finally got around to watch Vivaldi - Die fünfte Jahreszeit at the Vienna Volksoper. While I do have the intentions of making a spoiler review later on, this one here will be completely spoiler free. This is just going to be my overall impressions of various details. So, with that in mind, let’s get started!
The Cast
Antonio Vivaldi - Drew Sarich: Drew Sarich is always a win in my book and in this case it’s no different! He is amazing as Vivaldi and gets many opportunities to show off his vast and mighty rock tenor voice. But he also really gets to shine as an actor here! Some people criticise him for constantly playing the same guy in whatever role he is currently in. I can assure you, this is not the case. I didn’t see Krolock, I didn’t see Rudolf, I didn’t see Jesus, I saw Vivaldi. For me personally, Drew was the highlight of the evening. Whenever he was onstage, I was immensely entertained. This is also one of his funnier roles, I have to say. I know, it’s a piece about Vivaldi’s life but there is a surprisingly large amount of sass an sarcasm devoted to the main part and Drew sells it perfectly! He shows that he has great comedic timing. People who already saw the show will know what I mean when I mention that scene, where Drew really pulls out all of his comedy skills. Overall, it was great for me to see Drew again. The last time I saw him before that was Jesus Christ Superstar at the Ronacher, not last year’s show, the one before, so it was a great feeling seeing one of my favourite actors again. And as always, Drew gives a million percent and fully immerses himself into the role. Great casting choice, no regrets.
Carlo Goldoni - Boris Pfeifer: Another good casting choice here. This character is on stage most of the time so they really had to get a sense of good presence with this casting decision! And they have done so greatly. Whenever Boris and Drew are on stage together and interact with each other, the entire performance is elevated. This guy also has a great comedic timing and sells the role of a mischievous playwright really well! Definitely another highlight for me.
Kardinal Ruffo - Morten Frank Larsen: This role is SUCH a wasted opportunity. First of all, Morten is amazing as Ruffo as you really get the feel of a true antagonist from him. His deep voice combined with his look creates a commanding presence on stage. However, there is one problem with this role: He doesn’t show up as much. This is the antagonist we’re talking about here and we really don’t see that much of him. In fact, I can’t even remember if his character had any conclusion. Actually, I can’t remember if ANY character had a proper conclusion, but this I will talk about later. Morten Frank Larsen deserved so much more time on stage. However, he makes up for it with a kickass villain song, which is actually one of my favourite songs in the whole show. Great casting, great role, only too little stage time.
Annina Girò - Rebecca Nelsen: She was a good addition acting and singing-wise but I don’t really think the character herself is written in a very compelling way. Her biggest evolution is in her first scene and we see it happening very literally. However, I did get that she was supposed to be Vivaldi’s great muse, his inspiration for a while. This definitely came across and her self-confidence was very welcome. It was nice to see her trying to stand up for herself, especially in her big finishing number. However, as I said, not really my favourite character of the show. Rebecca Nelsen, however, was fantastic in the role. She has a great and powerful voice and deserves the applauding.
Paolina Girò - Julia Koci: She is great and probably one of the more interesting characters of the show! The whole point of her is being this watcher in the background, documenting everything while sadly being completely unnoticed and unacknowledged. Julia Koci captures this essence really well and this is why her solo is effective, because up until this time she hasn’t really had a presence. But she also seems to be the most loyal and faithful character in the whole show. I won’t touch on this in this review but will do so in the spoiler review. Overall, I was quite intrigued by this character and of course by Julia Koci’s delivery!
Caffarelli - Thomas Lichtenecker: This is the Herbert of this show. With that I mean, him being an absolute scene-stealer. We first see him in a scene where you can already suspect that he might come back and do some mischief. However, when he DOES get his big scene, holy shit! First of all, his costume is the most over-the-top thing of this entire show, and this is saying something because the majority of this show has a lot of over-the-top going for it! Thomas Lichtenecker is also amazing in this role. He isn’t on stage very much but when he’s there, you just know he’s there.
Of course, there are some more cast members but these are the ones where I feel I can truly talk about in greater detail. Overall, the cast did not disappoint me!
The Story
The story is a mixed bag for me personally. When I look back on it, it sometimes feels like there were two versions of the show: a dark and serious one and an over-the-top crazy one and for the final version they were merged together. I know this isn’t true but it feels like it a bit. I mean, we’ve got dramatic and serious songs like “Sünder, du entkommst mir nicht”, “Lebenslange Haft” or “Komm, mein Kaiser” where you truly feel the tragedy and weight of Vivaldi’s life. But then we’ve got scenes that are just...weird. People who saw this show will know what I mean when I mention the sauna. But even those scenes are not all too bad. At certain parts though, the story felt a little too abstract to me. The main reason for me is the way characters are being handled throughout the show. In that, I mean that none of them really get a proper conclusion. I mean, they get A conclusion but it could have been so much more. The closest conclusion we get is that of Annina. Even Vivaldi himself just disappears offstage towards the end and his ultimate fate is revealed via quick exposition. My biggest issue though was Ruffo because we never really see him again after a certain moment. It just felt a bit like the creators were telling us: “Ah, you probably know what happened to these historical people anyway, so showing it to you on-stage would be unnecessary”. I personally didn’t. The only person I know for sure what happened to is Vivaldi. Everyone else...they just kinda left into obscurity. In pieces like Mozart or Elisabeth, we get to see what happened to the main characters. And if we don’t see their ultimate fate, we still see the ultimate character conclusion for this particular show. In Vivaldi, people just disappear from the stage to not be seen again eventually. Maybe I interpreted something wrong, but at the end, I had somewhat of a “...that’s it?” feeling. Even the ending comes a bit out of nowhere. It felt a bit like someone came to the creators mid-rehearsal and was like: “Guys, we’re about to close, can you hurry up?” Overall, the story is a mixed bag for me. It has its strong parts but ultimately, it left me a bit unsatisfied.
Costumes and Set
Costumes: THIS is where the weeeeeeeeeeiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiirrrrrrrd part of the show kicks in. Ok, imagine this: Take costumes from the classical opera, then add costumes from a rock opera, mix them together, get Tim Burton to direct the piece and make the final decision and there you have it. I thought Mozart! was going a bit extreme when combining History with modern day. Boy, was I not prepared for what I saw here XD This is taking modern-day weird costumes to a whole new level. Everyone has hairstyles like they’ve just visited the most hippy-like hairdresser in the country. Goldoni and Ruffo are the only two normal-looking people in the show. Everyone else...wow! I mean, it kinda fits the spirit of the musical but wow XD This is what I call over-the-top.
Set: The set design is actually quite decent in this piece. A lot of Vivaldi’s life is presented as a play within a play and thus they take full creative liberty with that. A lot of the set transitions look like stage-changes in a theatre, including backstage people coming out and carrying pieces on and off. We’ve got massive renaissance-like paintings setting some of the scenes and we’ve got reconstructions of actual places (especially the prologue and the ending have this). But I gotta give the set designers credit that they made sure to make every scene look different.
Overall, the costumes are VERY weird and the set is quite nice to look at actually!
Music and Songs
Music: The music is actually one of the better parts of this piece. It is in many ways an experimental project, as it combines elements of classic opera with modern rock opera. Christian Kolonovits does manage to successfully intertwine those two...even to such an extent that this musical has been marketed via a pun: A BaRock Opera. That was...interesting to say the least. There was only one moment where I thought it was overdoing it a bit, and that was when Vivaldi’s Spring came up to be accompanied by heavy metal. It sounded like something from a YouTube cover video. But other than that, the orchestrations were really nice. And WOW, THAT is an orchestra, guys. Even the pit itself is gigantic but when I actually looked down to see how many people were playing instruments down there, I was very pleasantly surprised. This is how you orchestrate your piece, everyone!
Songs: The songs are also quite decent. Some of them really do get stuck in your head in the most positive way. My personal favourites are “Vivaldi rockt Vivaldi” (it’s a very catchy beginning, y’all!), “Lebenslange Haft” (another classic Drew song, where he gets the opportunity to properly show off), “Sünder, du entkommst mir nicht” (a kickass villain song for a very underused villain), “Scharlatan” (Goldoni’s golden moment and also a very catchy melody), “Die fünfte Jahreszeit” (Drew Sarich and Boris Pfeifer having a massive duet is amazing) and “Komm, mein Kaiser” (Drew really gets to show off his acting abilities in this one and this became my favourite song of the entire show because it’s not over-the-top or silly or overdramatic, it’s just one guy realising his fall from grace and increasing age, and it’s done so melancholic and simple, beautiful, if only more scenes were like this one). However, I do have one problem with them: SO. MUCH. REPETITION. I heard that that’s a thing on operas, that they repeat entire verses before wrapping up, but to me, it was more of an annoyance: after hearing about someone identifying themselves as an artist for FIVE times or so without hearing anything else, I am a bit annoyed. Seriously, like, some of the songs are 50% original, 50% repetition, aaaaaah XD But overall...the songs are actually really good, especially the ones that are not silly and over-the-top.
Overall
Overall, this is by no means my favourite musical. It just has a bit too many things that I personally don’t really prefer. Of course it’s great that it has gathered such a fanbase but I don’t really think I would like to see it again. However, I would like to buy the CD! When I’m actually not LOOKING at it but just LISTEN to it, I find myself liking it more. The cast is great and the music is great, I will definitely get the CD at some point in time! To everyone who hasn’t seen the musical yet: I would recommend checking it out as it really is one of the more “out there” shows. It’s one of the things you have to see in order to fully believe it.

April 7 Bevel’s Movie Night - Star Trek: TNG and Steven Universe
We watched the first episode, with Q. Prowl said almost nothing because I can’t fucking stand Q.
Bevel 7:51 pm *don't anyone mind the scattered machine parts and tools, she's in the process of moving them off important surfaces like couch seats and trying to make the place look a little more presentable, hope everyone likes the broken engine with a long flat piece of metal welded atop it, it's the new table* ItsyBitsySpyers 8:02 pm *Gave up on fixing the engine, did she? Soundwave stretches feelers down to see the, uh. New furniture. Before moving to his seat.* Bevel 8:02 pm *she might have broken it permanently by mistake while trying to fix it* *it's ok, she's building a new one upstairs* Bevel 8:05 pm Hi, Soundwave. *she tries to wave and nearly drops the armful of items she's carrying over to a crate* ItsyBitsySpyers 8:06 pm *Soundwave nods.* [[In a mood for romantic music, are you.]] Omicron 8:08 pm *Icy stumbles in, and pretends she didn't, nope, she's a strong predacon thank you* Bevel 8:08 pm *shrugs and dumps her armful* Sometimes it is really nice sounding. I will have to get you something too next time you are here. VProwl 19:59 pm TECHNICALLY he didn't break it. He just completely failed in completing the one simple task that could have prevented it from breaking. Bevel 10:00 pm At least he tried. Guess he got too excited. VProwl 110:00 pm He should be blamed, but not for the thing he didn't do. Omicron 10:00 pm I have a feeling that might be my life when this one, or his clutch mats get older Bevel 10:01 pm *she tucks the shiny away into her subspace* Omicron 10:02 pm Racer: *happy hatchling, and picks up the other shiny, tail waves* ItsyBitsySpyers 10:05 pm [[It's like dealing with Smokescreen.]] Omicron 10:05 pm reality breaking somehow? Bevel 10:15 pm I will. *she's going to Earth anyway, might as well grab some game stuff for Arcade to play around with* VProwl 110:16 pm Unless there's an entirely separate training program. ItsyBitsySpyers 10:16 pm [[There might be. It could also be a matter of repeat exposure. Hmm.]] Bevel 10:17 pm Even mistakes are fun though. I think its to give a thank you Bevel 10:23 pm Does Racer not like silver? Omicron 10:23 pm He didn't not like it, he wasn't sure it was something to eat until soundwave said so giving him a bit Bevel 10:24 pm Oh ok. I thought maybe he did not like it like how I do not like latinum. VProwl 110:25 pm ((does she think latinum tastes... too rich)) Bevel 10:26 pm ((lol Omicron 10:26 pm since Racer is the oldest, if he's eating things the other sparklings on the ship are interested it it too. It is nice eating something else. VProwl 110:36 pm *hearing them talk about eating wires is one such reminder.* *it's wild.* Bevel 10:36 pm *Cybertronians evolved from scraplets?* ItsyBitsySpyers 10:36 pm *DON'T YOU START ON THAT* Bevel 10:37 pm *"there's still scraplets how could we have evolved from them?"* Omicron 10:38 pm I don't know why, human refined copper just... tastes really good. so do some of their cars ItsyBitsySpyers 10:38 pm [[...You consume their cars?]] Omicron 10:38 pm .......not all the time? VERY very tired from recent events, and his ability to mask in public is running thin. He'll probably leave shortly. But not until after this song.* VProwl 110:54 pm *he's not alone.* ItsyBitsySpyers 10:55 pm *Soundwave stands and dusts himself off, as though he'd been sitting there long enough to collect any.*

COMIC TEA PARTY- THURSDAY BOOK CLUB START!
Good evening, everyone~! This week’s Thursday Book Club is officially beginning! Today we are discussing Kitty Kitty Bang Bang by Moe~! (https://tapas.io/series/kkbbcomic)
Remember that Thursday discussions are completely freeform! However, every 30 minutes I will drop in OPTIONAL discussion questions in case you’d like a bit of a prompt. If you miss out on one of these prompts, you can find them pinned for the chat’s duration. Additionally, remember that while constructive criticism is allowed, our focus is fun and respectfully appreciating the comic. All that said, let’s begin!
QUESTION 1. What is your favorite scene in the comic so far and why?
Superjustinbros
Hello!
RebelVampire
hey super~!
Superjustinbros
Coming in and I'd like to give a big shoutout to that header image on the comic's Tapas(edited)
I dunno, I thought it looked badass
RebelVampire
it is a nice header image. although what sells it for me is the logo design. its a really nice logo.
for favorite scene, hmm. ya know, i cant not pick it. the convention scene. that scene legit almost made me cry at how touching it is both with its message about how anyone can cosplay whatever they want regardless of how they look. not to mention the themes of reaching out to others. all wrapped in a nice package of no dialogue so that its the emotions at the center forefront.
Superjustinbros
Yeah.
Also this guy's hair.
RebelVampire
i like his hair and his smile combination. like both scream cocky little shit design wise and i love it cause he kind of is a cocky little shit. XD
Superjustinbros
Oh yes XD
Cocky little shits are my favorite
RebelVampire
another scene i want to show some appreciation too is the scene where we first meet kit's mom. like, i knew it was coming from the chapter title. but i enjoyed the twist it was her step-mom and theres a deeper issue going on. it turned what was easy to guess to something surprising again just by how the story plays out the reveal
Superjustinbros
https://tapas.io/episode/1370747 This is a pretty good page.
Hm, Doug McClure sounds a awful lot like this chap. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PUg6e072vgA
RebelVampire
anything in particular you like about it super?
Superjustinbros
The last two panels.
And the followup
https://tapas.io/episode/1371714
dat backside
RebelVampire
i really love the back shot composition. like what a great way to show overwhelming odds
mathtans
Evening. Made it as far as the start of the Bully arc, so late 2018.
Superjustinbros
Yeah. Also ello
I love also how Doug's got like, a million pouches on his belt
I dunno it's a detial I like
mathtans
Yeah, the convention stuff was good. Some of those real-life scenarios that made you want to shake people are good when done right.
Superjustinbros
Yes
mathtans
I'm not sure if I have a big favourite moment, but I have some little ones. Like when that "pinball wizard" thing played as Kit was taking on that nozzle in the gaming store, and it turned out it was the coworker.
The guy at the school in the knight suit, who had the fascination with corndogs. Weird background detail, added some humour to an otherwise tense scene.
RebelVampire
i love the corndog knight
i want a spin-off comic of just them
cause i want to know about them
why are they a knight
why corndogs
so many questions
mathtans
Heh. Made me think of that other bounty hunter, pointy-ears, who also couldn't speak.
Also, did not expect the female reveal there.
And I liked how the scientist flipped out over his research having the higher bounty than himself. Like, that trumped everything else he was in the process of dealing with and he went on a rampage. Amusing.
RebelVampire
yeah the scientists in general was fairly hilarious in everything he tried to prioritize. although i enjoyed that at the end of the mission the crystal wound of broken anyway. cause i felt it was fitting given everything it had been through
mathtans
I thought it was really clever how the rock was used to blind the scientist. Kitty is this weird mix of hyper competent (like when she used the snack habits of that one guy to track him down) and absent-minded (like when she then didn't make a grab for the compound).
I'm not saying that's unrealistic or anything, I can totally see it.
Very "living in the moment" with a dash of forward thinking.
RebelVampire
nah i agree shes a really interesting character. like at first i wasnt sure id like her but some of her plans have been pretty spot. and to be fair a lot of the absent-minded ness you could write off as it her being a kid. so of course shes expected to be a kid and not always think through with her actions.
a more comedic moment i liked was at the end of Mor where Kit and Mary both have to stand there awkwardly making their false apologies to the whole school. this page especially cracks me up just cause of the sheer height diff between the two. i think that makes it extra hilarious https://tapas.io/episode/1215017
mathtans
It's true. And I'm still wrapping my head around the kid thing.
RebelVampire
QUESTION 2. One of the comic’s focuses and highlights are the action sequences found within. Of the characters Kit has pursued so far in her bounties, which has been your favorite? Why is that? Likewise, which bounty did you think had the best fight choreography? What do you specifically think makes the choreography the best one? Do you think we’ll see any of the criminal characters again? If so, what could that mean for Kit? Considering many of the villains parody stereotypes and similar things, what other sorts of characters do you think or hope we might see? Lastly, do you believe Kit will encounter more of her professional rivals? If so, what do you think will happen?
its okay i had my struggles wrapping my head around but the convention scene really cemented it for me for some reason. but that might just be personal association of conventions being largely for the youth.
mathtans
Incidentally, I wondered initially about the use of "der"... and then when Kitty used the term "Hoser" I thought she was Canadian. That proved incorrect, what with the Norwegian thing.
Ahh... yeah, I went to a certain convention for 20 years straight soooo...
Like, I want to ship, but it feels wrong. Normally if they're young I just think of it as cute, or picture them as older, and neither of those things kinda work here.
I wonder how big Kitty's gonna get when she's 20.
RebelVampire
i didnt start going to conventions till i was an adult but at the same time my experiences is that theyre largely dominated by the youth. not to say there arent older adults there. but the youth are the ones always around drawing attention to themselves being loud. but i digress, just wanted to give context for why it worked for me
mathtans
That's fair.
RebelVampire
tbh i just assumed she was full grown. cause i was actually only an inch or two shorter than my full height at 13 cause i sprouted up early
mathtans
As to the question of the moment, I admit I'm not huge on seeing action and choreography, tending to be bigger on characters anyway. Which is probably why that scientist one sticks out so much, since we got his whole backstory and everything.
I am gonna be in for such a shock when my little one grows up, aren't I.
That short gangster guy who stole the boat might return. It was implied.
RebelVampire
and i legit cant imagine kit taller cause she literally towers over everyone. although is she still shorter than her dad? cause if she is, shell probably be his height.
mathtans
I think she is. I'm equally bad at noticing that sort of thing.
RebelVampire
id have to look again just cause it wasnt something i was looking for and her dad was only in so many scenes XD
im torn on my answer to this question of the moment. i think i agree i like the scientist the best cause he got a lot of backstory. not to mention when kit was doing their dialogue for them from the roof i was like "nah shes gotta be exaggerating" then we meet the scientist and nope, he really is just that arrogant and she was spot on. so overally he was definitely the most entertaining
but for fight choreography, im picking the first bounty with the spin off kool aid man. i really enjoyed the use of the environment and just the sheer level of destruction that was visited upon that grocery store
mathtans
She knows her business. I wonder how long she's been at it.
Oh yeah, almost forgot about that one. I liked when Kitty roped the random customer.
RebelVampire
i liked when after the fight ended, the old lady asked if the employee who was buried under rubble basically could get her a new box
MoeAlmighty
And that was most difficult one to come up with
mathtans
The one with the orcs going after cows was also good, not for the fight (which I think was offscreen) but world building. Until then it was sort of, like, what's reality here anyway.
Oh, hello creator.
MoeAlmighty
Hello there all ^^\
mathtans
Rebel: That was a good scene for setting the tone.
Superjustinbros
Hello Moe!
MoeAlmighty
Thank you. It's always a challenge to come up with a beginning for a series.
Superjustinbros
Thanks for this cool comic of yours.
MoeAlmighty
Howdey
Thanks
Superjustinbros
No probs
And yeah all this talk about conventions is reminding me of all the ones I've been going to lately. Comic focused ones and hugely commercial conventions are easily the most populated-by-youth ones.
mathtans
"Annie" con was a clever name.
MoeAlmighty
It was a little play on words. I always like to make those little puns when I can(edited)
RebelVampire
i did enjoy the orcs with the cows. probably just cause of the extreme accent going on in that dialogue. but i also just love this concept that someone would think clearly humans are only good cause they drink milk. like someone really watched those got milk commercials too much.
mathtans
I very much approve of puns. Also Senshi Kitty.
The head orc was milking his time in the spotlight.
Superjustinbros
Puns are always good
RebelVampire
i do agree with you math that i got the impression well see the gangster who got away from the scientist again at some point. what it means for kit? i could see her being extra determined to catch him since he got away last time. but then maybe thats when well see buff elf chick again who is out for revenge.
MoeAlmighty
Defintely. Orcs have always been my favorite fantasy race to play around with
mathtans
biab
RebelVampire
i do appreciate orcs getting some love in a way cause in my experience theyre really underutilized in a lot of fantasy settings. can find elves everywhere, but nobody wants the orcs.
MoeAlmighty
Well nothing is off the table.^^
Orcs have always been treated as the bad guy or the henchman merely due to their monsterous appearence.
RebelVampire
speaking of not elves, i really like that this guy turned out to be the real villain from bully bully https://tapas.io/episode/1348464. partly cause it was a good twist that it was a bully victim becoming the bully. since that is very true to life. but also, selfishly, i noticed this character immediately in the background one time and i was like "ah man what an interesting looking side chara too bad well never learn about him" and then we learned about him.
QUESTION 3. Even in Kit’s dynamic world, she still has some unique mysteries surrounding her. Why do you think Kit is the only female in her family to receive Freyja’s blessing/curse, especially after it’s been so long it’s almost a myth? What do you think the story is behind Kit’s rage modes that seem to take over when she gets mad? What do you think happened to Kit’s mother, and why is Kit so sensitive about the subject of her mother in general? Additionally, why did Mary calling her mother a whore set her off in particular? Lastly, how do you think Kit got involved with being a Bounty Killer? Why do you think her family lets her pursue the career given how dangerous it all is?
MoeAlmighty
Oh yeah the Goblin. I thought it was a perfect opprotunity to not just introduce the Goblins , but I was also playing around with laying out clues in plain site for the reader to notice.
Superjustinbros
That's smart thinking/writing
MoeAlmighty
There are plans for future stories that are straight up mysteries Kit will have to sovle.
RebelVampire
that sounds exciting and like a good challenge for her character too.
in regards to the current question, i want to dissect the fact that kit's specific phrasing about her mother was that mary hadnt even cared who her mother was as a person. and to a degree, i kind of feel like it was projecting that set her off. that kit herself didnt know a whole lot about her mother. so it might not be so much that her mom was called a whore that did it, but that someone would make a bold claim about her mother when kit herself didnt even know her that well and has since lost the chance to get ot know her. but thats just me theorizing.
mathtans
Back, little one's asleep in the crib again. For now.
MoeAlmighty
Mm hm, It would show that Bounty Killers in the world aren't used for just nabbing a bad guy with a hefty sum on their head. Sometimes folks need someone to investigate with the police's involvement and not ask any questions
mathtans
Was Kitty maybe given up for adoption? (Is that what makes her worthy of the cat ears?)
The police were handy against the scientist too, for a little while.
Superjustinbros
That's a good way of expanding upon bounty hunters.
RebelVampire
i dont think given up for adoption fits cause mor said shes the step mom which implies kit's father is her biological dad. that and there is one pic where the dad is with the mom
mathtans
Oh, right. We did see her biological mom in that holiday special though, didn't we? And Kitty must remember enough to have taken up violin playing (on the roof). So... yeah I dunno.
RebelVampire
thats interesting to know that the bounties arent just for nabbing bad guys. although makes me wonder what kit is going to do when shes told to do something shady and just not ask questions
mathtans
Or was that not the biological mom, was that a younger Dar?
I can't see Kit not asking questions.
RebelVampire
that was her step-mom. her bio mom we only see briefly in a pic
https://tapas.io/episode/1279607
mathtans
I wasn't sure if it was her dad remembering another time in that scene though. Like, the previous stuff was a memory.
(I also don't get enough sleep these days.)
RebelVampire
i could see how youd get that interpretation but pretty sure it was the step-mom and the bio mom was just in the picture
MoeAlmighty
There are a lot of things I don't want to say because of spoilers and I'll be answering those kind of questions down the road. But to answer the question pretaining to Mary, they do indeed have some History as hinted.
mathtans
Mary is actually the younger cousin of the short boat-stealing gangster.
It's why her dad went into law.
MoeAlmighty
heh. that is a pretty interesting theory.
mathtans
(I need to have at least one insane theory and one ship per comic chat. I think it's in my contract.)
RebelVampire
puns are also in your contract math. although you already fulfilled that one.
mary's dad kind of spooks me. like hes a really domineering presence and idk if i want to believe hes good or bad.
MoeAlmighty
Truth is, when I created Mary, she was developed as just the rich girl who presented herself as Ms. Perfect while also having the spoiled brat persona as well
Superjustinbros
lol
mathtans
Oh right. Well, those come naturally. I wonder if her dad is part orc.
Superjustinbros
That's one of many ways to describe that
MoeAlmighty
Best way to describe him is that he's a Lawyer... a very wealthy lawyer.
Oh no, he's part Dutch lol
mathtans
Incidentally, I kind of like that Kit's got both cat ears and human ears, it tends to be how I draw my characters too (even if mine are just headbands). But it does make me wonder how the curse might have rewired her brain to deal with the extra input.
Oooh, a flying dutch man.
RebelVampire
all the dads just drink lots of milk
Superjustinbros
What about Doug.
RebelVampire
to be fair if kit's cat ears are more sensitive than her human ones the extra input probably doesnt matter cause one would hear it better than the other anyway. at worst i imagine things just sound even louder XD
mathtans
It's that special beer.
Maybe it's partly why Kat's so on edge at times.
Superjustinbros
mm, beer
Wait, what kind of beer we talkin
MoeAlmighty
It's kind of a mix bag with it comes to her ears. Internally they do connect to her regular ears and she can hear through them, but only if she concentrates. Mostly they just act like a short range radar or a sixth sense. Something like spidey's spider sense.
Ah yes, I've notice some folks like our esteem adventurer. Others not so much
RebelVampire
QUESTION 4. Besides the action, there is still a lot of slice-of-life material to be had in the comic as well. Do you think Kit will eventually tell Bia about her career? How do you think Bia will react to finding out about it? What challenges do you foresee awaiting Bia and Kit as their relationship continues to develop and secrets reveal themselves? Further, how do you see Kit balancing her school life in general with her job? Will she manage to maintain her grades and everything, or will things prove tougher than she expects? In terms of Kit’s regular life, what things are you hoping to see be explored in how she lives her day-to-day life? Lastly, are there any themes (like bullying) that caught your eye from the slice-of-life segments? What about them did you enjoy?
mathtans
It's cool that youv'e thought about that.
Honestly, the bounty-hunters clashing, while not necessarily slice-of-life, felt realistic and added depth to the idea of the job. Also revealed how their methods are non-lethal. And was the first ship I considered.
MoeAlmighty
Ah yes, I had a lot of folks doing a double take when I revealed her age.
RebelVampire
unrelated to the current question, i really hope we get to see more bounty killers in the story just cause they cant all work out as well as buff elf chick. also id really like to get a feel for the age range cause its concerning the gov was like "nah a 13 year old bounty killer? thats fine"
mathtans
That's a good point. Did she register under an assumed name?
Superjustinbros
Seconding Rebel.
MoeAlmighty
Well due to Kit's size, she may or may not of lied about her age when she took the job
mathtans
Also, I feel like the construction job field gets a lot of work in this universe. We only see Kitty's exploits but there have to be other incidents in the world as well.
Actually, magicians too must be a thing. And mimes.
Did not expect the mimes.
MoeAlmighty
Their are plans to explore other parts of world. One in particular is the Bounty Pick Up units sent to pick up the bounties and make out the reports.
Yes, beware the mimes ^^
I will be exploring a lot more of the Magis and how the magic works as well.
mathtans
Silent but deadly.
MoeAlmighty
very
mathtans
That short magic comic did a good job, I thought.
And I liked the money van guy critiquing the pun.
MoeAlmighty
Hm Hm, well not everything can be a homerun for our little cat girl
RebelVampire
yeah i really liked the short magic comic. cause it was funny and really did some good world-building
i also loved the cowboy bank robber
just cause he was a cowboy
and that was ridiculous
mathtans
Oh yeah, forgot about him.
I wonder how Kitty practices her quick draws.
Where do they lock these guys up, anyway? Regular jails seem like they wouldn't be sufficient.
MoeAlmighty
Yes, you don't see that many cowboys these days. But it was a perfect nod for one of the inspirations of the comic
Superjustinbros
Cowboys are fun.
MoeAlmighty
Um, they go to regular prison and go through the same process as the law provides^^
Superjustinbros
Always love one with an appealing design when one shows up.
MoeAlmighty
Very much so
RebelVampire
what sort of lawyer is mary's dad?
mathtans
How do you lock up an orc so that he doesn't just bend the bars?
MoeAlmighty
He's a defense lawyer
mathtans
He lawyers der fence.
RebelVampire
ah so i can say maybe mary's dad defends all these criminals kit tries to send to jail.
MoeAlmighty
Booooo
It's a possibility and her dad is very much against the Bounty Killer and the Bounty Board in general
Superjustinbros
ooh, is that so(edited)
mathtans
Circling back to Bia, it'd be amusing if someone in her family was also a bounty hunter. Kitty admits it and she's like, "oh, okay, I can see how you'd be good at that too".
RebelVampire
just to talk a bit about the current question, i do feel its inevitable kit has to tell bia about her job. cause i mean...kit isnt the most undestructive. just takes one time of showing up burnt to a crisp to school to give it away. but i think bia is gonna take it better than kit thinks shell take it. cause tbf, if i was bia i would not be surprised.
tbf i kind of agree with mary's dad. they might be catching criminals, but holy shit that property damage
mathtans
I feel like Bia might find out not through Kit though. Like maybe even via Kit's brother. Which could strain the relationship.(edited)
RebelVampire
especially the property damage caused by the scientist
cause even if they have the money to fix it, it still takes time
mathtans
Or magic.
MoeAlmighty
Bia finding out Kit is a Bounty Killer is inevitable, and it might happen happen sooner than you think
RebelVampire
it could strain their relationship too. though for some reason i feel for bia itd be more about the age thing than the danger thing if that makes sense. cause the career suits kit. just maybe not when kit is still 13, in school, and all that
mathtans
'Cept her dad is okay with it.
I feel like I'd totally be that dad by the way. Who makes concessions. Then ends up in trouble with mom too.
MoeAlmighty
It is going to a very unique exploring the relationship Kit and Bia have. In many ways, Bia will act more like the straight man of the relationship
Well Edward looks at it more like she's hunting game. expect the part of gutting it and cleaning it for food^^
RebelVampire
i just want to say i really love kit's dad and i hope we get to see him more. he seems just so utterly likeable. like a gentle giant
mathtans
Just want to give a shout-out to the school nun badass. Possibly like the opposite to dad.
MoeAlmighty
He is indeed^^
Superjustinbros
Since the CTP is wrapping up in a bit, I'd like to wish @MoeAlmighty the best of luck with Kitty Kitty Bang Bang, it's got a great artstyle, story, and some good humor.
mathtans
Oh right, pretty good stuff done with only black and white too.
MoeAlmighty
Yes, Beatrice is indeed a beast^^
Thank you so much^^
Superjustinbros
You're welcome! ^^
RebelVampire
yeah i loved the nun. especially her epic entrance and this page https://tapas.io/episode/1188530
like everything about that page is perfect
"Keeper of the Lunch Period"
MoeAlmighty
God help the guilty
mathtans
Indeed.
Probably a bumper sticker on her car.
MoeAlmighty
I'm sure everyone here remembers that one teacher that kept everyone in check at lunch period
best bumper sticker ever
mathtans
Kitty has some nice exclamations too.
Superjustinbros
lol
Anyways, cya till next time, and thanks for dropping by @MoeAlmighty
^^

Further thoughts on Fuujin Ranbu
I think Fuujin Ranbu was terrible, not because of what it tried to portray or anything, but because of how they managed it. Shaghad could be an interesting character, indeed; he already had a very good physical design (not faithful to how the books describes him, but this design has more sense honestly), and this pirate guy, can’t remember his name, had more relevance in the opening sequence than in the season itself.
After finishing Fuujin Ranbu a few months ago (I was waiting for the english dub to end, because back then I wasn’t pleased with the japanese voices and pronunciations), I just raged. The things happening in Ecbatana, such as Irina trying to kill Innocentis, Irina and Étoile almost getting executed and Hilmes’ “bright” side were quite interesting and could be explored more in depth, we did had progression with Hilmes’ character and we learnt a part of his story, as well as having a blind princess is an interesting concept, she was also thirsty for revenge but kept her head cold with how she planned everything. I find Irina to be sensitive, submissive; that’s why she doesn’t complain about having to trouble all the time (and let’s be honest, what else she can do without putting herself in a major risk? She did took the risk anyways, tho) and has a, no pun intented, blind devotion to Hilmes. That and my compromise with the series allowed me to finish this “season”.
But then there’s Gilan. The first 4 episodes where cool, we could have had more explanation on how the hell did Narsus made a whole army kill themselves (that was really badass if you ask me) like in the manga (they explained more in depth how they captured Rajendra, for example), but everything happened so fast. Still it was enjoyable and interesting to see a situation where the main character has to begin again, but without edgy stuff. Arslan has his camp and they took a huge risk by going with him to Gilan; the scene where they all show their devotion to him as he cries in happiness is precious, in my opinion. And his reaction when he saw the sea for the first time was priceless, too. Fortunately, Arslan’s character wasn’t damaged in this arc, and actually that experience helped him more.
But then there’s the main conflict. I mean, yes; it was interesting to see Narsus and Elam in a completely different situation and see how they would react and how they would solve this specific problem. I enjoyed watching Narsus argue with Shaghad, be mad at him but sad because he’s losing/he lost an old friend; I enjoyed it mostly because he’s my favorite character and I really like to explore more and more into his personality and goals; and also because I can relate to being betrayed as that happened to me my whole childhood and part of my puberty and adolescence. It was good to see Elam trying to cheer him up, give him his support and be beside Narsus as much as he could, and I don’t deny that. But in the end we didn’t had clear what this betrayal left for them; or at least I couldn’t catch it. I understand episode 7 is a huge reference to “There can’t be rainbows without rain” but... That’s it.
Shaghad its just a case. I can understand he’s greedy and stubborn, but also was nice towards Narsus and the rest of the gang the first days. But that’s everything we saw about him in the whole season. Yes, he’s a character only for this arc (I guess, like I said, I haven’t read the books), but that doesn’t mean they have to make him unidimensional and dumb as hell. Rajendra, for example, was a character for the Sindhura arc, and he had tons of personality, a hypocritical prince who was friendly with the whole kingdom but in reality was greedy and just cared for the throne (yet Gadhevi was the evil one xD). He was even comedic. And Shaghad? I honestly just remember him for betraying Narsus and being jealous of him (according to the books), yet he decided to buy a mansion in Gilan... And because there’s yaoi fanart of those two. And because he literally scared Narsus when he told him that Alfarid claimed herself as Narsus’ wife. But nothing else.
I consider the fight disappointing. It started as cool as any other fight in the series, the animation magically became amazing and tolerable. But Azrael had to come in. Azrael had to come and give Narsus advantage. If this wasn’t planned by Narsus from the very beginning (and I believe it indeed was but we were never told because still life sparkles), then it was a mere coincidence and Narsus used it to win... Yes yes yes that’s what anyone with a brain would do. But it broke the tension. It broke the intimacy of the fight. Two friends trying to literally hurt each other, to kill each other. A betrayal.
The ending was really cheap. A bad cliffhanger. It indeed felt way too quick. They are obligated to make a third season just because of that cliffhanger.
Do I have something else to add?
The animation was... Eh. Here’s a little story: I was watching Fuujin Ranbu in late august, and my scholar cycle just began. I just watched the first half (1-4) and I really was enjoying it! In september I found some time and finished the season (5-8), and I just noticed how the animation drastically changed to a choppier, uglier one. I mean, the first season did had those moments, but it was way more tolerable.
I honestly dislike Elam’s costume, it is a sin to give him short-sleeved shirts or tunics without a long-sleeved shirt underneath. It doesn’t fit him!
The opening animation was very lazy until the chorus and the zoom in Farangies’ “female” intimate area was completely unnecessary. That’s why many people believe Farangies is a fanservice character. But its a shame that the animation was bad for this because the song is pretty good and catchy.
The ending animation was ok until the chorus, where we see a running cicle of Arslan with BAD concept art in the other side of the screen, and then it shows the sky with more concept art. I mean, showing concept art in an ending is really, really cool. But the concept art used here is boring, and for some reason they use ugly desaturated, gray-ish colors in the animation and concept art sometimes. But I really like the shots of Alfarid and Merlane (oh yes, the guy who came to both, scare Narsus (even tho in the manga she did told him she had a half-brother who could become the chief of the Zot clan) and tell Alfarid to return home and never saw his reaction when she said outloud she just wanted to be Narsus’ wife and nothing else. Not trying to be feminazi, but that’s really degrading. Marry Narsus if you want, Alfarid, you both look kinda cute together, but be something else, stand out for your own, MAKE NARSUS PROUD OF YOU), Hilmes and Irina and Narsus and Shaghad. And also the ones with Arslan and Étoile. The song is pretty mediocre for Kalafina’s standards, the rhythm is kinda monotone and it can get boring after listening to it more than 3 times. I prefer One Light, that one did had Kalafina’s seal all over it and was epic enough for Arslan.
The music wasn’t that great, compared to themes like Aishuuiro no Chiheisen, Shounen wa Soushite Ou to Naru (I was upset because Taro-donno changed the tune, because Shounen wa Soushite Ou to Naru’s tune was very iconic for Arslan, it was Arslan’s tune, but Fuujin Ranbu and its variation are pretty good, they remind me to Soulcalibur V’s GOOD songs), Kyouchi Gekitousen and the ones that never got released (a shame). The Symphonic Poems are beautiful, tho. But we lacked a more unique tune.
I hate Fuujin Ranbu because it had the amazing opportunity to give us more backstory for Narsus (we know he knows Daryun since they were 16 and 17 respectively, but we don’t know HOW they met), a different perspective of him aside from the wise man who loves art, lkes to tease Daryun and is very tolerant towards religion, freedom and complicated themes. And because the SIDESTORY managed to give a MORE INTERESTING STORY THAN THE MAIN ONE. The main focus, was bad compared to the sidestory, HOW COOL.
