My Forever Valentine
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pairing: bf!Jaehyun x gf!reader
AU: non-idol au
Word Count: 2.6k
Summary: Throughout your years together, Jaehyun had consistently taken charge of organising your Valentine's Day celebrations, even though it was his own birthday. But as your fourth anniversary approached, you decided it was your turn to take the reins. Yet, in your attempt to plan the day, everything seemed to go awry. Or... did it?
A/N: It's Valentine's Day and Jaehyun's birthday, and since he's my NCT bias, ofc I had to write this.
MAIN MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
Jung Jaehyun.
Your high school sweetheart.
He was the epitome of popularity in all your school years. Handsome, intelligent, and accomplished in almost every aspect of life, he seemed to effortlessly excel in everything he pursued. If anyone ever doubted god has favourites, they clearly have not seen him. He was the embodiment of perfection, and he was all yours.
But you? Not so much.
Unlike your boyfriend, you weren't a social butterfly, didn't hold the captaincy of any sports team, nor were you a contender for the valedictorian title. You were simply an average university student, striving to ensure you progressed to the next semester without the burden of retaking any courses.
And yet, Jaehyun seemed to see something in you that even you struggled to recognise.
Despite your enduring status as the quiet and shy girl since high school, you somehow managed to capture the attention of the basketball team's heartthrob of a captain. It was on Valentine's Day of your senior year that he confessed his feelings to you, and as a birthday gift to him, you chose to accept his confession.
As time passed, you found yourselves celebrating your fourth year together. Initially, you harboured fears that your seemingly perfect boyfriend would eventually leave you once he came to realise how ordinary you were. However, each passing year proved you wrong as he continued to demonstrate his love and care, meticulously planning unforgettable Valentine's Day celebrations, even when it was his own birthday.
On your first Valentine's Day together, right after you said yes to being his girlfriend, Jaehyun swept you off your feet with a heartfelt surprise. He took you to your favourite café, where you indulged in boba and shared laughter over cosy conversations. From there, he surprised you with a trip to the arcade, where you both embraced your inner children, playing games and capturing adorable photos together, photos you still keep in your wallets to this day.
For your second Valentine's Day, he went above and beyond to make it memorable. He planned a full day at the amusement park, starting with a thrilling morning at the water park, where you splashed and laughed together, enjoying the refreshing waves and thrilling slides. As the sun began to set, you ventured into the theme park, hand in hand, experiencing the exhilarating rides and magical atmosphere. The day concluded with a hearty dinner, where you toasted to your love and the memories you had created throughout the day.
On your third Valentine's Day, Jaehyun surprised you with a romantic mountain retreat, whisking you away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Surrounded by breathtaking views and serene nature, you spent the day indulging in multiple couple activities, from hiking hand in hand along scenic trails to picnicking by a tranquil lake. As the sun dipped below the horizon, you cosied up together by a crackling fire, cherishing the warmth of each other's company.
As your fourth anniversary and Valentine's Day approached, a newfound sense of confidence and assurance settled within you, bolstered by your boyfriend's unwavering love over the years. Slowly but surely, you found it increasingly difficult to imagine your life without him by your side, and you were determined to make this February 14th one to remember.
With a flutter of anticipation, you recalled approaching him with a gentle smile a couple of weeks ago, "Jae, I'd like to be the one to plan our Valentine's Day this year. Can I?"
Initially taken aback by your proposal, his eyes lit up with warmth and affection as he wholeheartedly agreed, "Of course, my love. We'll do anything you want." He responded with a kiss on your head, his reassurance melting away any lingering doubts.
Filled with excitement and determination, you spared no effort in arranging the perfect evening for him. After much deliberation and meticulous planning, you managed to secure a reservation at an exclusive restaurant facing a famous beach in Seoul. They offered a special Valentine's Day package, promising a lavish fine dining experience, captivating performances, and the opportunity to dance the night away under the stars.
During the dancing session, you had already made plans to express your desire to spend forever by his side. Tradition be damned, considering all he had done for you, you didn't mind taking the initiative to propose.
Getting home from your internship that evening, excitement bubbled within you and Jaehyun as you dressed in your finest attire, ready for a night of enchantment. You slipped into an elegant little black dress while he donned a sharp ensemble consisting of a crisp shirt, tailored pants, and a stylish blazer. The anticipation was palpable as you imagined the unforgettable evening ahead.
With his hand in yours and his other hand confidently guiding the steering wheel, you began your journey to the famous restaurant you had miraculously secured a booking with, "I'm so proud of you, my love," He said, his voice filled with admiration, "It usually takes months to secure a booking here, but you managed it in just weeks."
You couldn't contain your happiness, leaning your head against his shoulder with a grin, "I know, Jae. I still can't believe we're actually going there tonight," You replied excitedly, "Johnny is going to be so jealous! He's been raving about this place forever."
Or maybe he won't be jealous at all.
"We apologise deeply, miss! We were just about to contact you to inform you of the sudden closure of our restaurant!"
Oh, you've got to be kidding me.
Your heart sank upon arriving at the restaurant, met with unexpected news. A sudden kitchen malfunction had forced the establishment to close for the evening, leaving both of you frozen in disbelief. The weight of disappointment lingered heavily as you stood side by side at the restaurant's entrance, all dressed up with nowhere to go.
It felt like all your efforts had been in vain.
Feeling a surge of frustration and helplessness, you cast a glance at your boyfriend, uncertain of your next steps. His expression mirrored your own, a blend of disappointment and disbelief evident in his eyes. Silence settled between you for a moment as you both processed the unexpected turn of events.
Unfortunately, leaving was definitely not an option. Situated on the outskirts of Seoul, the restaurant's distance from the city meant that returning now would consume too much time. Besides, the unpredictability of traffic congestion could potentially result in both of you arriving well past midnight if you were to depart at this moment.
Letting out a sigh, you reached out to grasp his hand, "Gosh, I-I'm so sorry, Jae," You murmured, the words tinged with regret, "The one time I took charge of our Valentine's Day plans, this happens."
His immediate frown of disapproval at your self-blame was evident as he gently cupped your face in his hands, "Hey, none of this is your fault," He reassured, his voice soft but firm, "No one could have predicted this. It's alright; we'll find something else to do here."
Ugh, can he be any more perfect?
He pressed a reassuring kiss onto your lips before scanning the surroundings, searching for a solution. Suddenly, a glimmer of hope brightened his expression as he spotted a 24-hour convenience store around the corner and the picturesque beach still stretched out before you.
"Perhaps a romantic evening is still within reach." He suggested, his optimism infectious as he swiftly removed his blazer and draped it around your bare shoulders, ready to make the most of the sudden change of plans.
Stepping into the nearby convenience store, you were both greeted by the inviting glow of fluorescent lights. The weight of earlier disappointment seemed to fade away, replaced by a sense of warmth and comfort as you watched Jaehyun move gracefully down the aisles, effortlessly selecting your favourite foods, snacks, and drinks. Each item he chose, each thoughtful gesture, further solidified your desire to spend the rest of your life by his side.
With each passing second, the idea of being without him became unimaginable. In his presence, you found a sense of belonging and home that you knew you never wanted to live without.
Lost in the moment, overwhelmed with gratitude for the man you called yours, you couldn't resist the urge to hug him from behind. His smile greeted you as he turned to look at you over his shoulder, "Everything alright?" You nodded against him, replying softly, "Just wanted to be close to you."
The both of you were completely oblivious to the cashier rolling his eyes at the display and glancing away. However, any traces of irritation dissolved as soon as you both politely completed your payment and even extended well wishes for the remainder of his shift. Maybe, just maybe, he found the two of you a tad cute.
Emerging from the store with your arms laden with goodies, you made your way back to the beach, the cool breeze carrying the scent of saltwater and possibility. Settling down on the soft sand, your boyfriend made sure to keep you warm, tightening his blazer snugly around your frame, "Can't have you catching a cold, my love. Just tell me if you're feeling too chilly, hm?" Despite your long history together, his thoughtfulness never failed to make your heart flutter.
As the sky shifted into a tapestry of vibrant hues, you shared a playful exchange about the potential teasing from your friends regarding the unexpected turn of your date as you ate, "Ugh, Donghyuck is never going to let me hear the end of this. I was boasting to him just yesterday," You lamented with a groan, eliciting laughter from Jaehyun, "I'll give him a piece of my mind if he dares."
With the stars twinkling overhead and the gentle lull of the ocean as your backdrop, you couldn't imagine a more perfect setting for your makeshift Valentine's Day celebration.
Finishing the last of your kimbap, you leaned into his embrace, watching the moon rise over the horizon, your heart warmed as you felt him tighten his hold around you before tracing kisses down the side of your face, "I still can't believe we came all this way, dressed up and everything, just to be told the restaurant's closed. I promise next year will be better, Jae."
"It doesn't matter what we do. All I need is you by my side, my love," He whispered, nuzzling his face against the crook of your neck. You felt a rush of emotion welling in your eyes, quickly blinking it away, "Okay, okay, it's time for your birthday cake."
Giving him a quick peck on his cheek, you reached into the bag of treats you had gotten from the convenience store earlier. Pulling out a colourful cupcake adorned with sprinkles, you carefully placed a candle on top and lit it, shielding the flame from the gentle ocean breeze with your hand.
Clearing your throat, you began to sing the familiar birthday song, your voice mingling with the sound of the waves crashing nearby, "Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday, dear Jaehyun..."
His grin widened as he listened to your melody, his eyes shining with affection. When you reached the final verse, you leaned forward, presenting the cupcake before him, "Come on, birthday boy," You teased playfully, "Make a wish."
With a nod, he closed his eyes and pressed his hands together, his expression one of quiet contemplation. After a moment, he whispered his wish into the wind, his words barely audible over the sound of the ocean.
Curious, you leaned in closer, waiting with bated breath to hear his wish. And when he finally spoke, his words filled your heart with warmth and joy, "I wish for you to be my forever Valentine."
Tears welled up in your eyes at his words, "No fair—I was going to ask you first. You're always a step ahead."
He chuckled softly, "I suppose you'll have to get used to it for the rest of your life. Are you up for that?"
Without hesitation, you leaned in to press your lips against his, "Are you kidding? Of course, I am."
As the moonlight cast a soft glow over the two of you, he reached into his pocket and retrieved a small velvet box. Your eyes widened in surprise as he opened it, revealing a dazzling ring nestled inside.
"I've been waiting for the perfect moment to do this," Jaehyun confessed, his voice filled with sincerity, "I wanted to propose to you this year, regardless of who was in charge of our Valentine's Day plans. And considering you hinted at wanting to ask me first, I'm assuming your answer is a resounding yes."
Your heart skipped a beat as you gazed at the ring, the significance of the moment sinking in. Speechless and overcome with emotion, you nodded fervently, unable to find the words to express the overwhelming love and gratitude swelling within you.
Jaehyun slid the ring onto your finger, sealing your bond with a promise of forever. With a soft grin, he stood up from his seat, extending his hand toward you with an overdramatic bow, "Would you care to dance, my beautiful future Mrs. Jung?" He asked, his eyes sparkling with love and excitement.
Giggling softly, you placed your hand in his, feeling a surge of joy at the thought of the future ahead, "I'd love to, Mr. Jung."
As the two of you swayed clumsily along the shore, the diamond ring on your finger catching the moonlight, the rhythmic sound of the waves provided a soothing melody. Your boyfriend, now fiancé, held you close, his gaze locked with yours as he pulled you in, resting his forehead against yours.
"If you still have any doubts," He murmured softly, lips brushing against yours, "I want you to know that this has been my absolute favourite Valentine's Day and birthday celebration so far."
Your heart melted at his words, and you nodded, feeling a wave of emotion wash over you, "I believe you, Jae."
With a dimpled smile, he leaned in, his lips catching yours in a loving kiss that conveyed the depth of your shared love. As you melted into his embrace, you realised that sometimes the most memorable moments are the unplanned ones. Despite the unexpected change of plans, you were content with how the evening had unfolded.
After all, even if you had been displeased with this Valentine's Day, there would be plenty more in the future to make up for it.
He's mine, forever.
Bonus:
Glancing at the time, you both agreed it was time to head home. As you gathered your belongings and approached Jaehyun's car, you were surprised to see the cashier from the convenience store earlier emerging from the shop and walking past you both, seemingly finishing his shift.
"Hey there, need a ride home? It's getting late, and we're happy to drop you off anywhere along our way." Your fiancé offered kindly, motioning towards his car.
The young man, whose name tag was revealed as Jisung, shook his head with a smile, "Thanks, but I'll be alright. I live just around the corner. You two have a safe journey back to the city, though."
You nodded in acknowledgement, watching as he continued on his way before pausing after a few steps, turning back to face you and Jaehyun, "Oh, um... congratulations, by the way. I saw the proposal from inside the store." He mentioned, nodding towards your ring, and both of you blushed.
With a sheepish shrug, he offered a light smile, "Happy Valentine's Day, and I wish you both all the happiness in the world."
"Thank you, Jisung."
As he made his way home, the young man couldn't help but shake his head with a small smile. Alright, perhaps he did find the two of you incredibly adorable. A part of him felt a warmth within, witnessing such genuine love between you both. It left him hoping to find someone just as special for himself someday.

Love Song

Jung Jaehyun x Male Reader
In which the new hire at your job keeps distracting you but you can’t help and admire.
Jaehyun is not good for your heart. He pulls at your heart strings with his smile almost daily.
Even while just doing his job, you can’t help but admire him from afar. The pink tongue sticking out of his mouth in concentration as he pulls a shot of espresso from the industrial machine. It had been a week since he finished his training and he had already become a customer favorite. The days seemed to be busy regardless of the time just so people could catch a glance of the new barista.
You couldn’t help but feel jealous as he gave away his million dollar smile to just any customer—or rather any girl. That was another thing. How certain were you that he liked men? Were you just projecting your feelings on him?
“Can you stop drooling and clean some tables?” Renjun snapped you out of your daze—though he was quite small in frame he managed to intimidate you to no end. “I don’t get why you don’t just try talking to him. He’s not that scary.”
“You don’t get it, Jun. He’s perfect.” You could feel a frown forming on your face. “He was born on Valentine’s Day… did you know? He’s probably a professional at all of this… love and romance stuff.” Renjun can’t help but give you a tight-lipped smile. With his expression saying enough, you decide to drop it, going back to doing your job instead.
Closing was usually a breeze for you—having been at the job for over a year everything came naturally.
However, with Jaehyun being new to the routine, everything he seemed to do clumsily, you found charming. No matter how many dishes he seemed to pile up just by being a little clueless—or how many times you had to wipe up more than one spot because he seemed to forget—or even checking the restrooms to make sure he stocked up the napkin dispenser—you couldn’t help but find it all cute.
So sure, you clocked out an hour later than usual but that meant you got to spend an hour alone with Jaehyun.
And he was funny. Laughing before he managed to even verbalize the joke he was thinking about. A laugh that always seemed to find it’s way to his eyes before his lips. And the way he stared at you as if you were the only person on earth.
It wasn’t good for your heart.

A Husband and His (Ex) Best Friend
Tumblr media
Paring: Johnny x female reader, past Jaehyun x reader
Summary: With all the planning for your wedding coming up, everything feels like it is going right. Soon, you and Johnny will be happily married and all that is left to do is to wait. But what happens when Jaehyun shows up out of the blue?
Warnings: mentions of cheating, none others that I can think of but let me know
Word count (part one): a little under 6K
Thanks to @pastelsicheng for reading the first quarter of this a billion years ago. Other than that quarter this is not proofread so let me know about any errors!!
Tumblr media
“I like you and all, but I don’t know if I want you that close to me.”
“Where else am I supposed to sit if not next to you?”
“I don’t know. Not my problem.”
“Well, you better get used to me sitting close to you because I plan to stick around for a while.”
Johnny sighs, leaning back against the sofa. “Why do we have to do this again? Why can’t we just let them all fight for their seats?”
You laugh, turning your head dramatically to look at him. “Maybe because we decided this wedding was going to be ‘the fanciest wedding any of those suckers have ever been to.’”
“I don’t know who said that, but you really shouldn’t listen to whatever advice you hear. You can’t live your life so codependent all the time.”
You smack his arm, earning a side glare in response. “Okay, first of all, I’m not the one who bought all those cards and spent a good hour writing everyone’s name in a fancy font. Second, I was quoting you, and you know it. Don’t try and play dumb with me, Suh.”
“Wouldn’t dream of it, l/n.”
“Good.” You place your elbow on the table, resting your head on top of your hand as you pick the pen back up. “Now, where do you want Mark to sit?”
“At the kids’ table.”
“You’re useless,” you sigh, dropping your arm and turning your head to smile at him.
“Good thing I’m leaving to go get Yoonoh from the airport.”
“You jerk, you planned this, didn’t you? Because now I’m stuck here, trying to figure out where to put people so a fight doesn’t break out.”
He scoffs, pushing himself up. “Who is going to fight at our wedding?”
“You’re letting Mark bring Donghyuck. Intentional or not, I feel it in my bones that Hyuck will start a fight with someone.”
“Well, you have the bones of a seventy-year-old man, so excuse me for not trusting what your bones say,” he jokes, walking into the kitchen.
You laugh, leaning your head against your hand, staring at the paper with little drawn tables. “At least I’m not a six-foot giant.”
He laughs, opening the front door. “Love you.”
“Love you too.”
---
“Hey, y/n, I’m sorry to do this to you, but I have to drop Yoonoh off at the house and then run over to help Mark with something.”
“Oh, that’s okay.” You set the pen down, putting your phone on speaker so you could stretch back over the couch. “Did you get the guest room set up?”
“Ah, you see, about that...”
“Johnny,” you laugh, bringing your body forward. You can imagine the smile on his face. “You were supposed to do that this morning.”
“And I was, but then I got a bit… distracted.”
“Is ‘distracted’ when you ordered a Dairy Queen cake at nine in the morning to prove to Deven that you could eat half an eight-inch by yourself?”
“Mayhaps.”
You laugh, pushing yourself up. The look on your brother’s face as he watched Johnny eat the last slice of cake that would mark half and stammering about how he didn’t understand how someone so fit could eat that much is something you’ll remember for a long time. “Don’t worry about it. How far out are you?”
“If my calculations are correct, he should be knocking on the door any minute now.”
“You jerk! You couldn’t have given me more of a heads up?”
“Oh, you’re fine. Make him help you. He’s always one to help a damsel in distress.”
You shake your head, walking to the front door to wait for Yoonoh's knock. “Are you trying to send your fiancée into the arms of another man?”
He chuckles, the sound making you smile. Four years of dating, and you still feel a sense of pride when you make him laugh.
“Oh, you know I am. I can finally be free.”
You gasp, and before you can respond, you hear a knock at the door. “Looks like it’s your lucky day. He’s here.”
“Go get ‘em, tiger.”
You laugh, softly saying a ‘bye’ before hanging up.
You open the door, a wide smile spread across your face, ready to meet Johnny’s best friend from Korea.
However, when you process the person in front of you, your smile drops.
“Oh, um,” he stammers nervously, blinking at you. He doesn’t say anything more he just looks at you. Breaking eye contact, he says, "I must have the wrong apartment. Do you happen to know where John Suh lives?"
You take a deep breath, opening the door wider to invite him in. “No, this is the right place.”
He doesn’t immediately walk in, again choosing to stare at you.
You sigh, dropping your hand from the door. “Close the door when you come in—I’m going to go make the guest bed.”
Not wanting to be around him anymore you quickly walk to the bathroom. Trying to push him out of your mind, you focus on putting yourself on autopilot as you grab two towels before heading to the guest room. Setting the towels on the bedside table, you grab the sheets from the closet.
“I can do this, y/n. You don’t need to worry about it.”
When did he come in? I didn’t even hear the door.
Keeping your back to him, you continue spreading the sheets over the bed. “You’re my guest, Jaehyun. Of course, I have to do it.”
Jaehyun. You haven’t thought about him in a while, but of course, the universe has other plans than for you to get married easily. Only, instead of a freak accident happening to your wedding cake, it comes in the shape of Jung Jaehyun.
Or Jung Yoonoh.
You hear him roll his suitcase to the far end of the room, dropping his backpack next to it. Without saying anything more, he helps you straighten the sheets.
After what feels like forever making his bed, you heave a sigh of relief.
“I’ll be in my room.” You had planned on adding the comment: “if you need anything, feel free to ask,” but frankly, the offer doesn’t apply to people like him.
Not wanting to hear his response, you turn and quickly walk towards the door, hoping to leave without any more conversation.
“Y/n,” he calls, stopping you before you can leave. “What do you want me to do? Do you want me to leave? I’ll make something up to tell Johnny.”
You sigh, turning around to face him. “Yes, Jaehyun, I want you to leave. But you’re one of his best friends. And I don’t know what kind of sick joke this is, but I’m not going to let my feelings toward you ruin his relationship with you.”
You don’t know how well you’ll be able to follow through with that, but you’ll sure as hell try. It isn’t just your wedding, after all; Johnny is allowed to invite anyone he wants.
Even the man who broke your heart.
“Is that all you wanted to say? If so, I’m going to go take a shower.”
“Um yeah, go ahead. Just, I’m sorry to put you in this situation. I am.”
You turn around, nodding your head once before quickly rushing out the door.
Sitting on your bed, you feel your heart pound in your chest. Out of everyone Johnny could have befriended, he just had to go and pick my ex-boyfriend?
Falling back onto your bed, you sigh for what feels like the millionth time in the past twenty minutes.
You spent weeks crying over that man, hoping you’d never have to see him again. The embarrassment and pain of the situation caused you to hate not only him, but also yourself for months. Sure, you’re over him completely. By this time next weekend, you’ll be Mrs. y/n Suh. Nothing else could make you happier, but that didn’t mean seeing him doesn’t hurt; because it does— a lot.
Taking a deep breath, you push yourself up off the bed. Rushing out of the bedroom and into the bathroom, you stare at yourself in the mirror.
I can’t do this. I can’t lie to him. You prop your elbows on the counter, resting your head in your hands. I also can’t go and tell him his best friend is the “goose face of a man” I told him about.
The memory of Johnny calling Jaehyun a goose face after hearing about what he did to you stills the emotions bouncing around your head. It makes everything calmer. Nodding your head once at yourself in the mirror, you push yourself off the counter and go to turn on the water.
Johnny is worth it, you’ve decided; he’s worth the pain.
---
When you hear the front door open you feel a pang of fear. You have to look your fiancé in the eyes and pretend his best friend doesn’t make you uncomfortable. What a great way to spend the few days before my wedding.
“Yoonoh, what are you doing?” you hear Johnny ask as you open the bedroom door, quietly walking down the hall to the kitchen.
“Oh,” you hear Jaehyun reply. “I thought I’d make dinner for you guys since you’re letting me stay here. My mom’s famous japchae.”
You stand in the doorway, watching the two talk in front of the stove, backs to you.
Johnny snorts, leaning his elbow on the counter. “Your mom isn’t the best cook, no offense to her, so you definitely pulled that off the Internet. Don’t try me, Jung Yoonoh. And also, doesn’t that sauce have honey in it? Y/n’s allergic to honey.”
Jaehyun flicks his eyes over to you, finally seeing you standing in the doorway. “She saw me taking out all the ingredients and told me about the honey.”
You shift uncomfortably on your feet, looking away from the pair. You don’t know why Jaehyun remembers your allergy, but the reminder that he used to be one of the most important people in your life is unwelcome.
Pushing the unsettling feeling away, you put on a brave smile and walk over to your fiancé. “So, what did Mark want?”
He smiles down at you. “Oh, nothing. The weirdo broke the coffee machine and needed help fixing it before dad found out. I can only imagine the complaints he would make if he received a bill from the hotel about a broken coffee maker.”
You scrunch your nose, ignoring the feeling of Jaehyun’s eyes on you. “He doesn’t even like coffee. How did he break it?”
Johnny shrugs. “It’s Mark, can’t say I’m surprised.”
“Sorry to interrupt,” Jarhyun mumbles, motioning to the stove. “But the noodles are done.”
You look at the noodles, realizing that he needs you to move to get to the sink behind you.
“You know what,” you say, stepping out of the way. “I’m going to go grade some papers. You guys stay here and catch up. Tell me when dinner’s done?”
“Oh, okay, are you sure? He actually lived in Connecticut for a few years. You both could reminisce about the good old days.”
Johnny’s smile is dazzling, and your heart melts at the innocent intention behind his words. He always makes an effort to include you in his conversations, even if it is just little hints like this.
You fight a cringe at the statement as your eyes look over to Jaehyun. You catch his eyes as he sets the pot in the sink, holding a strainer full of hot glass noodles. For a second, you find yourself wanting to scream at him. Yell about how unfair it was for him to leave without saying anything to you after three years of being together, how unfair it was that his then-best-friend had to shyly tell you he had been cheating on you for the past few months with some girl at his work. Mostly, though, you want to yell about how unfair it is for him to put you in this situation. That if he had just been a decent person in the first place, he wouldn’t be making a liar out of you.
Instead, you break your eye contact and smile as un-forcefully as you can. “It may not be a very big state, but it’s still a state, dear. I’m sure Yoonoh and I never went to the same places or anything.”
“I don’t know. I feel like the universe would have a hard time keeping two beautiful people away from each other.”
You snort, rolling your eyes. “Whatever you say. But really, I do have papers to grade. So I’ll see you both at dinner. Thank you again, Yoonoh.”
“What? Oh, yeah, no problem,” he replies awkwardly. Breaking whatever trance he was in and pouring the noodles into a mixing bowl.
With a final salute to Johnny, you turn and walk back to your bedroom.
Once safely behind closed doors, you shut your eyes and take a deep breath.
This is going to be hard.
---
“So, y/n, I assume you’re a teacher?”
“Yeah, I teach fifth grade,” you respond, forcing yourself to briefly smile at him before returning your gaze to the plate below you.
It feels like you are losing by talking to him, especially telling him about something he knew was a dream.
The image of him picking you up after your shift at the daycare on Fridays before taking you to dinner at his house or a restaurant flashes through your mind, and you suppress a bitter chuckle.
“I don’t know how she does it,” Johnny comments, unaware of your inner battle. “I could never be a teacher. I have this vivid memory of my mom telling me to never be a teacher.”
You chuckle, bringing your eyes away from the food to look at him. “Probably because of that one time you yelled at Mark for not knowing the days of the week.”
“For one, I was like eight, and he was five. How was I supposed to know he could mix up the days of the week and not look stupid? Second, you need to stop having those lunches with my mom.” He turns to look at Jaehyun. “She used to have these lunches with my mom without me, and they would talk about me. Can you believe it?”
Jaehyun chuckles, eyes flicking to you before looking back to his best friend. The news doesn’t surprise him; his mom always loved you.
“Sorry man, sucks to be you.”
“You’re both useless,” he says dejectedly, dramatically stuffing some noodles into his mouth.
You shake your head, smiling at his childish actions.
“Oh hey,” Johnny starts, abandoning the previous topic. “You don’t have work tomorrow, right?”
“Seeing as it’s a weekend, you are correct.”
“Then would you mind taking Yoonoh around tomorrow? I bought tickets for us to go see the Statue of Liberty, but something came up at work.”
Frowning, you ignore the instinct that tells you to immediately disagree. “Are they overworking you? Do you need me to go in there and yell at some people?”
He tilts his head, smiling sweetly. “Not yet, but be ready when I call.”
Crossing your arms, you lean back in your chair, attempting to appear tough. “Don’t worry, babe. I got you.”
He scrunches his face as the word ‘babe’ leaves your mouth, chuckling. You smile at him, relaxing from your tough act to laugh with him.
“Am I missing something?” Jaehyun asks, smiling at Johnny.
“Oh, so for our first date, we went to a winery-“
“It took more than an hour to get there, by the way,” you interject, smiling as the story plays out in your head.
“Yeah, I had prepared different topics we could talk about in case we ran out of things to talk about. But anyway, we went on a winery tour, right? And this one couple-”
He cuts himself off, giggles erupting from the both of you.
He takes a deep breath, trying to suppress his laughter. “And this one couple was, like, fighting? They were walking behind us the entire time and would say stuff like: ‘babe, you don’t understand how hard it’s been cleaning the apartment all by myself’ or ‘babe, you never care about me and what I want to do.’”
“The response to which was: ‘if I didn’t care, I wouldn’t have bought you your favorite brand of peanut butter.’”
Johnny’s laugh rings through your ears, and you hear Jaehyun quietly laugh across from you.
“Oh my gosh, I forgot about that,” Johnny wheezes, turning to face Jaehyun. “After that, they were silent for about three minutes before the complaints about something else in their relationship started back up. Anyways, skip to when we’re doing the wine tasting, and it turns out, y/n here doesn’t drink.”
Jaehyun laughs, turning his attention to you. “Really? You went to a winery for your first date?”
You smile, too caught up in the story to realize who you are talking to. “He was so excited! I couldn’t say no.”
“I already bought the tickets, and I knew she was too nice to say no, so it was a full-proof plan for at least one date.”
“Okay, okay, enough of that. Get to the good part,” you say, waving your hand to tell Johnny to continue.
“Oh, right, so they’re handing out the wine, and y/n has to say: ‘oh no, I don’t drink.’ And the guy pouring the wine is confused because, you know, who would come to a winery tour if you don’t drink? Anyway, once he poured my glass and moved on, I’m like: ‘why didn’t you tell me you don’t drink? We didn’t have to come.’ And y/n, being the kind person she is, said it didn’t matter and that it was still a fun time. But of course, me not knowing this fact didn’t go unnoticed by the couple, and the girl turns to the guy and says: ‘Babe, I’m so glad you know me and what I like; I don’t know what I would do without you.’”
A loud laugh escapes your mouth, and you quickly cover your mouth in surprise. “You should’ve seen Johnny’s face. He felt so bad.”
“I thought I blew it with you! Of course, I was sad,” he laughs. “And all you did was laugh in my face.”
“I couldn’t help it!” you exclaim. “There you were, a six-foot man, looking sadly down at his wine because of a comment from the ‘babe couple.’ In my prior year of knowing you, I had never seen that look on your face.”
“But on the bright side, we didn’t have to worry about driving drunk.”
You hadn’t thought about that day or why you both use “babe” jokingly in a while. It had just been a thing you both laugh at with no explanation. It’s nice to relive your first date and the warm feeling you've felt for the man since.
“So, yeah,” you say, turning towards Jaehyun. You try to meet his eyes, but as soon as he meets yours, you find yourself looking anywhere but at him. “That’s why we only jokingly call each other ‘babe.’ It might not be as funny as we make it out to be, one of those you-had-to-be-there-moments.”
Jaehyun shakes his head, a small smile gracing his face. “No, I think it’s sweet. You have an inside joke with a fun story. It was nice to hear.”
You hate the sincerity in his voice, and when you look up, you see what you can only describe as love.
You know it isn’t love for you. Jaehyun has undoubtedly moved on; it’s love for his friend. That’s one thing you always admired about Jaehyun, how much he loves his friends.
You see that same quality in Johnny.
“You don’t have to take me,” Jaehyun says as you two walk toward the subway station.
“I told Johnny I would, so I am.”
Jaehyun nods his head, shifting his gaze away from you.
You were mad when Jaehyun left, and, unknown to you, that anger reappeared when you tried to have another relationship. Johnny helped you get over that anger. Now that he’s back, all that anger is coming back, and Johnny can’t help you. With Jaehyun sleeping in the room next to you, you have never felt so uncomfortable in your own home.
You had spent all night thinking about your situation. You love your fiancé—there is no doubt in your mind that he is the man you want to marry. Jaehyun just wasn’t supposed to come back, not when everything was going good.
“Where do I go to buy a ticket?” He asks, breaking you from your thoughts.
“Oh, I’ll swipe my card twice.” At the mention of a card you reach into your bag to grab your wallet.
Jaehyun laughs softly. “I just noticed. You’re carrying a purse now?”
You look down at the small purse hanging over your shoulder. “Yeah, I started doing it after I lost my card at the store. Johnny watched me stress for about ten minutes as I checked his car before the store gave me a call. After which, I made him drive me to the closest department store and bought this.”
He doesn’t respond, watching as you scan your card before moving out of the way for him to walk through first. You quickly scan your card again, immediately putting it back into your wallet as you walk through.
Like your allergy to honey, it bugs you that he remembers your unwillingness towards carrying a purse back in high school. Everyone around you, Jaehyun included, warned you that you would lose something one day. Now that you think of it, it had been one of Jaehyun’s favorite things to tease you about.
“You two make a good couple,” he says quietly, pulling you from your thoughts. “I’m glad you’re happy.”
You scoff at his words, seeing them as nothing but laughable. “Thanks, he’s an honest man.”
---
“We have five minutes before the ferry leaves. Do you want to stay here and look, or should we go wait at the doc?” You ask after having walked around the statue and answering all his questions.
“We can wait at the doc,” he responds, already turning to walk back. “If I’m being honest, I don’t get the excitement of tourist attractions.”
You nod your head in agreement, and as if to prove your point, a man accidentally bumps into you. “I worked here for a year, so the appeal is more than lost on me.”
“You worked here?”
You nod your head, standing on the tips of your toes to see if you can find a clear spot. Once you find one with fewer people, you lead him that way. “As you know, my mom is a German teacher, so I grew up speaking German. I took a job here as a tour guide. I met Johnny here.”
“Oh, really?”
“Yeah, some of his relatives were visiting from Korea before going to his parents in Chicago. So, of course, they came here, and I was leading one of the tours around. But this boy from the Korean tour before me got separated from his parents. I obviously don’t know Korean, and he didn’t know very much English. So in came Johnny, the best translator, and he helped calm the boy down until his family could come back. Then we met again on the island that has the museum. I was sitting on a bench waiting for my group to come back from the self-exploring time or whatever you want to call it, and he sat next to me and said: ‘long day, huh?’ Next thing you know, we find out we go to the same university.”
Jaehyun smiles, eyes darting behind you. “Is that the ferry that takes us to the museum?”
You turn around, seeing a ferry slowly pull into the doc. Simply nodding in response, you walk closer to where the ferry pulls in. The rest of the time waiting for the ferry is thankfully silent. Your time with him hasn’t been as horrible as you thought it would be, but on a list of the things you could be doing on your day off, talking with your ex does not even make the list.
After boarding the ferry and watching the water pass by with Jaehyun by your side, a strong sense of déjà vu hits you. Before dating, you and Jaehyun took an old steamboat on the Connecticut River. You had been sitting much like you are now, minus the awkward air between you two. Except at some point after he got back from getting you both some water, his leg rested against yours. The warmth from the simple action had made you so happy. It’s still the moment you think of when you picture the beginning of your relationship. It’s the day things between the two of you shifted from friends to something more.
Now, when his leg briefly touches yours, you quickly pull your leg away. Instead of bringing happiness, the warmth brings a sick feeling to your stomach.
“When are you leaving?”
You can feel Jaehyun looking at you, but you refuse to meet his eyes. “I leave four days after the wedding.”
You nod your head, not taking your eyes away from the water.
The rest of the ride is silent.
---
“Thank you for spending yesterday with him,” Johnny says, and you can hear the smile in his voice. “I really appreciate you doing that for me and taking my position as best friend tour guide.”
You nod your head, shifting into a more comfortable position on the couch, pulling his arm closer around you. You truly value these moments. Moments where he would let you snuggle close against him, his arm around your shoulder, holding you close.
You normally aren’t a very touchy person, but it was times like this when you feel so lonely that you want to feel loved. Johnny figured this out only five months after you started dating.
Every time, he never pushed you into saying something you weren’t ready to share. He just listened and said sweet things.
“You-you still want to get married, right?” You pause for a second, searching for the right words. “I know that might be a stupid question. I’ve been thinking lately, and I just- I don’t know.”
He doesn’t answer immediately, instead choosing to rub your arm comfortingly.
“I don’t know what happened, and like always, you don’t have to tell me anything you don’t want to. But that is the silliest question I’ve heard all week – no – in all my life. I’ve never met someone outside of my family who means more to me than you do. The day I proposed to you was the scariest day of my life. Logically, you were going to say yes. But I was so scared you would say no, and I would lose the person who has made my life the best it’s ever been.”
“Thank you, Johnny, that means a lot to me. I’m happy I haven’t chased you away yet.”
He gives you a gentle squeeze. “Believe me, if anyone is doing the chasing away around here, it’s Mark.”
“I don’t know. I think out of the two of you, he has more charm.”
He snorts. “Fair point. But back on topic, do you want to tell me what has you second-guessing things?”
“I’m not second-guessing anything on my part,” you clarify. The last thing you want him to believe is that you’re second-guessing your relationship. “I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about my past relationship, the one where I was cheated on. I didn’t feel what I feel for you with him, but there must have been a reason he cheated on me. I’m worried you’re going to find out what that thing is and then leave me.”
“Well, I can tell you right now that you don’t have to worry about that. Seeing as I’m not a goose face, I’m not about able to see the same things as a crazy person.”
“I don’t know; your face is kind of goose-like.”
“How dare you. You take that back right now, or I’ll make you.”
As hard as you try, you can’t ignore the guilt creeping into your stomach. Here you are, talking about Jaehyun to one of his best friends while he’s asleep in the other room. You weren’t even the one in the relationship who did something “bad,” so you don’t know what guilt you owe him.
Overpowering the guilt you feel towards Jaehyun is the guilt you feel towards Johnny.
“You deserve better than me,” you whisper.
“No, I deserve you.”
---
“I am going to kill someone.”
“Calm down it isn’t that bad.”
“Isn’t that bad?” you repeat, looking over at Johnny in a mix of shock and horror. “I don’t think I can ever come back here. That is how bad this is.”
“Am I missing something?” Jaehyun asks from his spot next to Johnny.
The three of you are currently standing in front of the ice cream section in your supermarket. Johnny had noticed you were stressed over some of the last-minute planning for the wedding and decided it was time you took a break.
“Oh, it’s nothing. Her favorite ice cream just isn’t here right now,” Johnny answers.
“And you don’t see how that is a big deal? You’re the one who said I needed to take a break, and now you’re saying the disappearance of the one thing that is necessary for an authentic break isn’t a big deal?”
“Okay, take a chill pill. They got your second favorite.”
“Where? I don’t see it. Are you stalling for time before I kick your shins?”
“No, I see it right here,” Jaehyun leans forward to tap the glass in front of the container.
As you watch him tap lightly on the glass, you freeze. Is he trying to make Johnny suspicious? What the hell is he thinking? Pointing out something he should have no idea about. I didn’t know he was this stupid.
“Dude, how’d you know?” Johnny asks, looking at Jaehyun with what you can only imagine is a confused-shocked expression.
“Oh, well, for one, it’s brownie batter. I mean, who doesn’t like brownie batter? And when you were in Korea, you saw the flavor and mentioned something about how this was your girlfriend’s second favorite flavor. After cookies and cream, right?”
“Huh,” Johnny opens the door to grab the ice cream. “I don’t remember that at all.”
You like to think you’re a different person than when you and he dated. But being reminded of these things makes you think differently. It feels as if you've been taken back all those years to high school when you depended too heavily on him and weren't as sure of yourself as you'd like to think you were at the time. It makes you feel small and helpless.
“You know what,” you say quietly, and you hope Johnny doesn’t notice the distant tone in your voice. “I think I’m going to try something new. I’ve always wanted to try cherry garcia ice cream, so why not now?”
“Oh, okay,” Johnny says, letting you take the ice cream from his hand and replace it with the new flavor.
You glance one more time at Jaehyun, hoping he can feel your unhappiness at his remembrance, before turning to walk to the checkout. You hear Jaehyun ask your fiancé something in Korean, and you tune out the rest of the conversation as you mindlessly follow the directions on the screen. As if planning a wedding isn’t stressful enough, now I have to deal with Jaehyun almost ruining our ... whatever this is.
As you leave the store, Johnny stops you by lightly grabbing your elbow. “Oh hey, can you guys walk back by yourselves? I have to go pick something up for my mom.”
You look up at him, tilting your head to the side. You don’t want to be left alone with Jaehyun. “Are you sure you don’t want to walk back with us and take the car? It’s a long walk to your parents’ hotel.”
He waves his hand dismissively. “My mom said she’ll pick me up. She’s out and about doing something and said she’d pick me up on her way home. But since she doesn’t know the city that well, she wanted me to get the thing, and she’d come pick me up. Sounds crazy, I know, but that’s how she works. Also, I know this is a really weird thing, but can I borrow your ring? I want to give it to my mom; so she can look at it closely—you know, with me buying it without her knowing my plans and all—and then you’ll never have to take it off again.”
“I don’t need to tell you to be careful, do I?” you ask, slowly twisting the ring off.
He chuckles. “No, of course not. I am the one who paid for it, after all.”
“Okay,” you lightly place the ring in his hand. “Do you know when you’ll be back?”
“Well, it’s 3:40 now, so maybe around 5? I’ll definitely be back for dinner. I was thinking we could go out. My treat?”
You nod your head, giving him a smile that doesn’t quite reach your eyes. Along with not wanting to be alone with his best friend, you feel like your fiancé has been gone a lot. You’re starting to miss him.
“Great,” he leans down, kissing the top of your head. “I’ll see you guys later for dinner, okay?”
Jaehyun nods his head, waving goodbye.
“You can’t do that,” you say as soon as you round the corner.
“Do what?”
“Talk about things you would only know from being in a relationship. You did it with the honey allergy, and now with the ice cream. And yeah, you came up with some good excuses, but how long until you can’t think of one? What then?”
“Look, I’m sorry. I wasn’t thinking.”
The sarcastic tone in his voice makes you stop in your tracks, grabbing his arm so he’ll face you.
“Excuse me? Who are you to talk to me like that?”
He sighs. “Okay, I know you’re being—I don’t know what the right word is—nice? You know what I mean. You’re being nice by letting me stay in your house. But do you have to talk to me like you’re all high and mighty?”
You laugh in shock, not believing what you just heard. “I don’t know where this is coming from, but I do not appreciate it. You know what you did, so you should consider yourself lucky you’re allowed in my house-”
“It isn’t just your house. Johnny wouldn’t let me sleep in a hotel when he has a-”
“You cheated on me!” you yell, interrupting him. Taking a deep breath, you look around to see if anyone is staring. “You cheated on me, and I told Johnny about it. And you know what? He agrees with me that you were a jerk and that I shouldn’t have to ever see you again. And I’ll be honest. I don’t know if he would want to see you again. But I do know he would be uncomfortable around you. Because guess what? He loves me. And he will take my side, and he will never hurt me like you did. So yes, I am being nice by letting you sleep in our house. Because one word from me, and you’re out.”
You didn’t know you had that in you. Judging by the look in his eyes, Jaehyun wasn’t expecting it either.
“I’m sorry—”
“Nope.

CHAPTER ONE (3.6k)
Wong Yukhei looked out at the shimmering stars above Sha Tin District. It was a late night as he stood on his complex balcony. His elbows rested against the railing as he looked among the city lights. It was going to be a long time before he saw Sha Tin District again. He was headed to Seoul in the next few hours. Even though he was infatuated with his position and where they were seated, it didn’t fit with his satisfaction of expanding globally.
Lumidome. One of the highest-ranking mafia groups in China, or even among the top ten in the world. People didn’t understand the position of the mafia. Tested their limits and only found out when it was too late of what they were capable of. They overthrew their rivals in a matter of hours in one single night. Their leader, Yukhei, was known to be cold, stone-faced. He had a temper if someone messed with him the wrong way. A person was lucky enough to see the day light at all if they pissed him off.
“Yifan, reports?”
Yukhei’s voice was emotionless as he turned to face the older man sitting on a red velvet couch, wine glass in hand. Yifan had been with Yukhei since they were in middle school. His demeanor didn’t faze Yifan, he was used to the younger being stone faced. He had promised to follow Yukhei in all his activities. Whether they be bad or good. And he just wound up to be part of the bad.
Yifan swirled the wine in his glass before he took a sip.
“Our position here in China will remain the same. Everything will run as per usual. A jet is ready to take off whenever you seize to be ready, boss. Passing through the Korean border shouldn’t be an issue, and if we leave soon, there’s a chance we could be there before midnight.” He replied professionally. His eyes glanced at the younger’s cold expression.
Yukhei hummed in response with a small nod. He expected nothing more and nothing less from the one he trusted most. He leaned against the railing, his arms crossing over his chest as he eyed the older.
“What’s on your mind?”
Yifan set the glass down on the table in front of the sofa before he leaned back, crossing his leg over his knee.
“What we’ll do once we arrive in Korea.” Yifan replied honestly. There was no need to tell a lie to the younger one whose eyes were glued to him.
“Well, we will do exactly what we did once we arrived here.” Yukhei pushed himself off of the railing and stepped inside. “Take over and rise to power. And with you by my side, it should be easy.” He ran a hand through the others blond locks. An act that Yifan grew accustomed to over the years.
“You will be by my side, right?” He muttered. Yifan gave a soft expression to the younger.
“Always by your side.”
“Good. Because I want you to be with me when I take over the world.” Yifan hummed.
“Who is our next target?”
“Simple. Neozone.”
~~
The sun was just setting as a perfect evening ended in a small little pet shop in the center of Seoul. The glow of the sunlight and the colours of the night settling in glimmered through the store windows as Ten went around, making sure to give the pets food for the evening. With the occasional pet to the puppies and to the kittens, Ten double checked that all animals were set for the night with clean cages, and fresh food.
There weren’t many people coming in around this time, so Ten decided to start closing up shop earlier than usual. He was the only person working the shift at this little pet shop, and before closing he wanted to make sure that he got everything done before heading home for the night.
Being raised in a poor family, Ten learned to never slack off during his tasks, and at the moment he needed all the money he could earn. Ten had moved from Thailand to Seoul to pursue his dream of becoming a general surgeon. Although his mother was against it, he still left home to be taught at the finest universities in Seoul. But as a medical student, his mother didn’t send him money due to his run off, so he had to earn every last penny he could.
He needed a way to fend for himself, as well as pay tuition and rent.
Ten honestly didn’t mind at all though. Aside from his studies and the lack of friends, he needed to find a way to keep his mind occupied otherwise. Working with animals always made him forget about his worries, so he figured that this job would be the best to work as he worked away on his studies. If people at the university told him to “try harder” or “work hard”, it wouldn’t matter to him. Ten’s goal was to make his mother happy, to get her approval of his career choice.
Ever since he moved to Korea, he hadn’t made many friends at all. Perhaps it was because he was a foreigner. Or maybe because he focused too much on class and didn’t bother with socializing. Perhaps it was even because he was too focused on his studies or even his job. But in the end, it didn’t matter what he did with his time besides study and work. He had a goal to reach, and if he could reach it, it would make his world seem better.
He was just about to turn off the OPEN LED lights, when a friendly face got his attention and made him smile.
“Taemin?” At the sight of the older man, Ten opened the door and gestured for him to come in.
“Hey, I-sorry to bother you, but I just wanted to check and make sure that you were okay?”
“oh, thank you. I’m okay, I was just making sure that the pets had fresh clean cages and fresh food to have for the night. Come in.”
So far, Taemin was probably Ten’s only friend in Korea since he arrived. Despite seeing the older man walking home from the windows of the pet shop, or sitting outside with him during his lunch break, Ten grew fond of the olders’ presence. Seeing him and spending time with him, Ten slowly stopped seeing Taemin as a casual visit, and more like an older brother he could count on.
“What are you doing out tonight?”
“Oh, just heading down to the café shop before it closes to get a coffee. I decided to stop in and make sure you were doing well.” Taemin stated, glancing at the clock to check if the café would still be open at this hour.
“I see. I hope you get there in time and get yourself a nice warm drink! It’s getting a bit cold out during nights now.”
Taemin gave a small nod and leaned against the counter of the shop, watching the younger clean up the last little bit of the mess.
“I hope so. But I want to make sure that you get back home safe tonight. It’s not safe during dark hours around here. There are bad people out there and I don’t want to see you get hurt.” Taemin announced, going to the shorter and giving him a small hug.
Ten enjoying getting these small hugs from Taemin. It made it feel as if he wasn’t as alone as he was here in Seoul. He gave him a hug back, before smiling to him.
“Don’t worry. I’m closing up shop now and I’ll head straight back to my apartment. But you be careful out there as well okay?” Ten suggested, putting the broom and dustpan away.
Taemin gave a hum in response with a nod.
“Don’t worry. I’ll be alright,” Taemin headed back to the door and smiled to the younger. “I’ll see you later okay?”
Ten gave a smile back to the older and waved.
“I’ll see you later. Bye!” Taemin gave a small wave back before he left the small little pet shop.
As Ten watched the older walk off towards the café, he realized how late it was getting. The sun was no longer visible, but the colours of the sun set still lingered among the darkening sky. He flipped off the OPEN sign lights and grabbed his bag off the counter in one swift motion.
He grabbed the keys and left the shop, saying a small goodbye to the pets for the night. Locking up, he put the keys in his bag and headed on home. Although the walk through the darkening streets didn’t help his paranoia, what Taemin said earlier started to creep into his mind further. The silence of the walk back to his apartment was eerie as he sped walked his way back.
Once he finally made it back to his apartment, he fumbled with his keys a bit before he finally got inside. Leaning back against the door of the apartment, he closed his eyes and gave out a relieved sigh. He locked the door as soon as he could and placed his bag on the counter top.
The place wasn’t much, small, and not very crowded by furniture, but it was all he needed until he finished University. He could live off of ramen noodles and cheap looking wallpapers until he was able to move into a place more suited to his style.
~~
“Damn it Haechan! Stop it, I swear you're gonna blow our cover!!”
“Geez Mark, okay okay… I was just trying to make the mood a little less stressful.” The blue haired boy pouted, crossing his arms. He was clearly upset from the olders words about the fact of his humming.
“He’s right, Hae… Boss trusted us with this mission, no one else could do the task. That’s what he said.” Jaemin spoke up, reminding him of their situation at hand.
The Dreamies. Aka – the innocent but deadly members from Korea’s largest and deadliest mafia groups, Neozone. Neozone is known as one of the world's largest and toughest mafia groups and is black listed on each police station in the globe. Dreamies were the youngest sub unit of that mafia. Unlike most teens their age, these few were reckless and a physical danger to the streets of Seoul. If you mess with their brothers, their family, they’ll make a mess of you on the side of the street. Wide and open for the world to see.
But these few do have their own restrictions from their boss. Although they were minors, they weren’t allowed to do what some of the older members were able to. No clubbing, no overdosing, and no going out past midnight unless they had Mark or Sehun with them. And most definitely. No. Killing.
“Where’s Taemin? Wasn’t he supposed to be going with us tonight?” A red-haired boy announced from the back of the car, slightly annoyed that their hyung wasn’t present.
“Jeno… He’s with boss tonight, across town. We’re merely waiting for the call-in case they need our help as backup. That’s why we gotta keep an eye out the windows.” At the mere comment, all the boys in the car turned their eyes out of the window in panic of being yelled at.
“Wait… Wait! Where’s Jisung?!” Kai practically screeched, in search around the car for their maknae.
“Relax, he’s just in the trunk.” Sehun responded unfazed.
“Oh, okay. Wait what?!”
“Cool it. He has his phone, and there isn’t much space in here for him anyways. He’s fine.” Mark stifled a laugh behind his hand before he turned his attention back to the windows.
Kai at that very moment wanted to throw hands with Sehun. But he closed his eyes and took a deep breath, running a hand through his white locks.
“Okay.. fine, I guess we just wait then.”
~~
Meanwhile, in the quieter part of Seoul, Taeyong sat in the driver’s seat of his sleek black Mercedes-Benzes. His face was stoic, but his eyes glistened with hostility as he awaited the arrival of their rival.
“Boss, you usually don’t come out here… What’s the change?” Taemin and Taeyong were both sitting in the car for nearly over an hour and both men were becoming impatient. Because of Taeyong’s high rank within Neozone, he was usually never on the field. Most of the dealing jobs belonged to the Dreamies or the BLINKS. But apparently, this job was too risky and dangerous for those members to be out on the prowl.
“Somethings come up Tae. Rivals from China decided to slither their ways into the Korean borders. Someone’s gotta stay.” Taeyong stated, his voice blunt but firm, steady. But it couldn’t help Taemin’s curiosity build up in his chest.
“China?”
Taeyong tilted his head to look at the older member next to him. “Yeah. They’ve already started to wreak havoc in Lotto. Unit 127 is already there with some of our allies, defending that part of the town. These new guys most definitely didn’t come here to play nice.”
“But then why aren’t we there with 127 now?”
“Their leader wants to send us a message. I know it’s risky, but it’s better than having them enter our territory. At this point, we’re not quite sure who we’re dealing with.”
Taemin nodded in understanding. He didn’t want to push Taeyong’s boundaries any further, and especially now wasn’t a time to let their guard down. Despite being in the gang world, Taeyong being younger than him, Taemin saw Taeyong as a younger brother he didn’t get to have growing up. But while in gang speak, Taeyong was his boss.
As another 15 minutes passed the two by, finally a large black Lincoln pulled up from the depths of the darkness around them. Windows tinted all black. If it were anyone else in this position, they wouldn’t have minded the car with any suspicion. But Taeyong knew better than that. His grip on the steering wheel tightened, turning his knuckles white.
Taeyong felt something was wrong in his gut, but the moment a window rolled down and a barrel of a 22-calibre gun appeared in the window, he knew.
“Shit! It’s a tra-!”
Before the younger could even finish his sentence, the first bullet was blown out of the barrel and slammed into the windshield. Not enough to shatter it, but enough to give a message.
Taeyong became furious. He backed the vehicle up as fast as he could, as Taemin beside him loaded his gun.
“I guess that’s our message!”
“I’m calling the Dreamies!” Taemin snapped, the phone already pressed to his ear. “Sehun, get over here now! We’re on the other side of town, close to the university campus!”
As Taemin made the call, Taeyong’s knuckles were white from the tight grip on the steering wheel. He drove wickedly fast, tires screeching around every corner he whipped around. Passing through red lights, just skimming the chances of getting hit.
“Hey! That was a red light!!”
“Damn it Taemin, does it look like I care?! There are no red lights in a damn car chase!” Taeyong fumed. As they continued to speed down the streets of Seoul, going faster by the mile, so was their rival’s bullets. Closer and closer to breaking glass and popping holes in the tires. Taeyong had enough of it and was ready to hit back.
“Take the wheel.”
“What?!” Taemin shouted.
“Jesus-take the damn wheel Taemin!”
Taeyong jumped into the back seat while Taemin moved into the driver’s seat in one fell swoop. But he didn’t dare give a second to forget about his seat belt. The younger surged through the duffel bag stored away in the back seat and loaded a gun. Without a second thought, he leaned out the window, his red fiery hair flaming as fierce as the flames of rage in his eyes. He aimed and shot the driver and must’ve hit for the car swerved as they sped off, hitting a lamppost.
After a few minutes of silence and the hum of the car, Taemin finally broke the silence.
“I think… we lost them.”
“Shit! Look out!!” Neither of the members had time to react, as their rival hit their car head on, forcing the car to stop, crushed against the escalade.
When Taeyong finally deemed back to his senses, he saw three figures exit the escalade, and so he readied his gun and exited his own.
“Sup, assholes.”
“So sorry about that. You must be Taeyong. What my dearest pleasure to finally meet you! It’s such a shame we have to be on terrible terms.” A tall guy with blonde hair stated as a snake-like smile slid across his face.
“what do you want?” Taemin demanded. He stepped out of the car alongside Taeyong. Both of their barrels pointed to the tall blond.
“you’re boss.”
“And why do you want me?” Taeyong’s posture didn’t falter. His stance emanated dominance. If there was anything he valued more than his gang, it was his pride.
“how do I put this… Our leader wants to negotiate… some things with our so-called rivals, and that involves you and your gang Mr. Lee.” The blond stated.
“You’re going to have to go through me first.” Taemin loathed, taking a step forward, his entire body shaking his rage.
“So be it.”
One of the two didn’t hesitate to charge at Taemin as both of them aimed to rip each other apart. Despite Taemin’s height, his opponent was stronger and threw him against the window of the Mercedes, completely smashing it.
Going back to his own opponent, Taeyong turned around just in time to pin the taller one against the door of the Mercedes by the neck. The taller swallowed and smirked down to the shorter.
“oh, kinky.”
Taeyong rolled his eyes and pushed the man onto the ground, foot against his chest and gun aimed at his head. But before he could even pull the trigger, a sharp pain entered his torso. He groaned and dropped the gun, clutching his side which was turning crimson red. His hands clutched his shirt against a deep blade wound as he faltered down to his knees. Taeyong struggled to pull himself back to his feet but was met with stars and a rush of pain. He glanced back behind him to be met with a woman wearing a bandana.
She raised an eyebrow at him and held up a knife which was now covered in blood. She knelt down, wiping the blood off the knife on a bandana from her pocket.
“I like your eyes Mr. Taeyong. They’re beautiful…”
“Seulgri, no.” The blond stated, standing as he dusted off his pants. “Boss wants him alive.”
“I’d listen to your friend,” Taeyong wheezed. “He seems to be the smarter of the two.” Even though he was beginning to bleed out, Taeyong still found the strength to give an evil smirk.
This made Seulgri growl, as the other lady grabbed her gun and walked around the car to join sides with her.
Before either of them could lunge forward at Taeyong, a small car slammed into the three, sending them flying against the road.
“Are we late, boss?”
“Just on time, Mark.” Taeyong groaned, forcing himself up into a sitting position.
Taemin got up off the ground and touched the wound on his forehead. His hand was covered in blood before he noticed Taeyong’s injury was worse.
“oh my god, you’re bleeding!”
“No Shit Sherlock!” Haechan yelled from the back of the car.
“Boss, what do you want us to do?” Sehun then spoke up, even through the situation, his expression remained the same as his voice barely faltered.
“Take the Dreamies back to the zone. Get inside and lock up the building. No one goes in and no one goes out.” Taeyong slurred, feeling himself fall in and out of consciousness. There was no way he would be able to make it to the hospital in time, and never mind being arrested once he arrives.
“but what about you? We can’t just leave you here!”
“Jaemin, there is no time! It’s fine, I know where to go now, get back to the zone and lock up!” At this point, most members forget how aggressive and demanding the soft hearted Taemin could be.
He had already lifted Taeyong. An arm around his waist, keeping Taeyong close to him. He could only think of one place to take him.
“I’ll see you soon.”
“But-“
“Now Jaemin! Go!” Jaemin knew that there wasn’t time to fight with Taemin. He smacked Mark’s arm and Mark sped off.
Taemin gave a small nod before he pulled his attention back to Taeyong, whose eyes were closed as his skin was already turning pale. “Hey no! Open your eyes!” He demanded, worried that if the younger's eyes closed, they would never open again.
Taeyong could barely open his eyes, as he mumbled, “Taemin, I’m dying. You gotta get ou-“
“No! No Taeyong! I’m not leaving you! And you’re not leaving me! You promised me!” The guilt washed over Taeyong. He did promise. Both promised to stick by each other's side through thick and thin.
Taeyong had a family, and that was too much to lose. “Fine.”
After minutes of staggering around the alleyways of Seoul, Taemin turned the corner of run-down apartment buildings. At this point, the older member was practically dragging the younger. He struggled to contain his tears through the hallway, mumbling incoherent words through his quiet sobs.
Taemin finally made it to the last door, and desperately knocked on it. Over and over again. After a brief moment of silence, the door finally opened.
“Help.”

[7:45 PM, Christmas Eve] sfw. WC: 794. Secret Santa for @misakiise or @loeycity ! Merry Christmas!
The deep smell of pine, and tinsel filled your nostrils, as you began to sway to the jazz christmas music playing softly from the other room, mingled with laughs from the other room. The fireplace and Christmas tree lights casted you both in a warm glow. You could feel the soft cotton of Boyfriend!Jaehyun’s light blue button down shirt that was previously covered by his jacket.
You felt his hands roam up your back, and felt his hand bump the big red bow that was at the back of your dress. The dress itself was short, with a deep-v back and a high neckline in the front, with puff sleeves, and a straight-flair skirt with a big red bow at the back. You wore your black heels and tan thermal stockings to complete the look. Your hair is blown out and voluminous, which you’d topped off with a red lip. Jaehyun would be lying if he didn’t think you looked perfect.
Wine glass in one hand, his hand in your other, he raised his arm and spun you slightly to the slow and mellow beat of Michael Bublé’s iconic christmas album. You let out a short laugh, as he swayed with you against his chest, your wine glass pressed to your lips as you took a sip.
The song ended, and the Christmas music seemed to slow down, as did your swaying together, your back pressed to his chest as he took a sip of his own wine. “What do you think?”
“I think that your family is very christmas-orientated.” You let out a short chuckle, your eyes focusing on the different Christmas ornaments. In no way was their Christmas tree themed, or organised. It was a chaotic mess of different hues, and handmade ornaments from fine glass to… well, the ones a child would bring home from kindergarten. “Oh my God… did you make that?”
“Make what?” He asks, as he moves his wine glass from his lips and follows your gaze, as you point at it. He lets out a small chuckle as he finally catches on.
“That thing!” You exclaim with a short laugh, as you took ahold of the large, and somewhat homely ornament.
“Excuse me?” He feigned offence as you held up the Christmas ornament by the ribbon.
You turned to give him a look, as he looked at it and then at you like he was jokingly offended, moving his free hand from your hip to his heart. “You know what I’m talking about… it’s a demonic snowman!”
“It’s a show of my childhood craftsmanship.” He lets out, in a tone that sounded offended but based off of his facial expression it was clear he was holding in a laugh, as he looked at it. Now that he really thought about it, the ornament didn’t really look like a snowman. Ultimately it was just pieces of coloured pasta stuck to poorly painted cardboard with no real artistic vision in the first place.
“Totally… a demonic penne painting of a snowman on a ribbon is a true show of craftsmanship.” You nodded, holding in your own laugh, as you held it up for him to view, downing the rest of your wine in one go.
“Childhood craftsmanship, baby.” He hummed into your neck, planting kisses there to which you squirmed in his hold, as he took the ornament from your hands and placed it back on the tree before he spun you around to face him again. “That’s a very important detail.”
“Sure it is…” You giggled, as you jerked your head towards where it hung on the tree. “If it looks like that!”
“I’ll have you know, it was a standout in my kindergarten class.” He smirks with pride as the two of you danced to the Christmas jazz that had once again picked up the pace. You hadn’t realised where he was leading you to the doorway of the formal living room.
“I’m one-hundred percent sure it was.” You let out a small laugh as he placed his own empty wine glass on the mantle by the door, trapping you between the doorframe and himself. He held one hand on your hip, as he took your empty wine glass with the other hand, placing it next to his own on the mantle. “What…?”
You frowned slightly at his triumphant expression. He only smiled even wider like the Cheshire Cat and nudged his head upwards slightly. Your eyes followed to where he looked, finding the small sprig of green leaves and white blooms hung overhead. It was cast in the same warm glow of the room and you could swear your face turned as red as the wine you’d just gulped down. “Oh… Smooth, Jeong. Real smooth…”

Talking to Death
Tumblr media
Pairing: Newly-Dead!Jeong Jaehyun x Female Reader
Preview: Missing someone who's dead? Talk to them now!
Is there someone who has passed away that you miss dearly? Well, you can talk to them now! Call the number below!
xxx-xxx-xxxx
Just remember to interact with friends and family outside of speaking with your departure and don’t crowd and overwhelm your departure as they adapt to their new surroundings. This stage is new for everyone.
Word Count: 6.8k
Genre: Tim Burton-esque (?), Fantasy, Non-Idol AU, Horror
Warnings: Jaehyun’s dead from the start, fluff, angst, mentions of self-harm (but can be easily missed), mentions of suicide (also can be easily missed), passing out/fainting, blood, cleaning a wound, main character death, suicide (this one isn’t easy to miss), not 100% proofread.
a/n- This idea randomly came to me in a dream, but I hope you enjoy this little twisted reality. Also, sorry that the last two fics have ended with death and not really happy endings, the next couple of fics I have planned out do have happy endings. And there is unfortunately repetition of some words, like I just used those words too often, but I hope it isn’t too bad.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"My condolences". You didn't know who he was, but he was here for Jaehyun. You didn't know any of these people except for his close family and friends. But it didn’t matter whether you did or didn't know them, every single one came up to you expressing their sorrow.
The service was lovely, the walls of the funeral home were between the color of oatmeal and bone white, and the flowers were roses, even though they symbolize love, and not death, Jaehyun claimed that he loved them. Every single pew in the entire room was filled, even with people standing in the back, and there were still people in random places of the home.
At the front of the room to the left, people surrounded a table that held several photos of him, and each photo had a paragraph that explained what that specific part of his life was about, and there were even more people to the right of the table, which is where he was. It was obvious that he was loved by many, yet he chose to love you and only you.
You hadn’t realized that everyone had sat down in their designated seat until Jaehyun’s mom came to your side. “Y/n, honey, it’s time for us to sit down. There’s an open seat next to me for you.” You let her take your arm to lead you to said seat.
The warmth of Jaehyun’s mother’s hand on your arm didn’t last long, because as soon as she sat you down, she went up to the podium that was between the table that showed the timeline of her son’s life, and her son himself.
He looked so peaceful; you would've thought he was asleep if it weren't for the current circumstances. It was an open casket; you don’t know if you’re glad it was or if you wish it was closed. With it being closed, you wouldn’t be able to see him at all, but with being able to see him, it’s just proof that he’s truly gone. You’ll never be able to see him, kiss him, hold him, or talk to him after today.
“Thank you everyone for coming. Jaehyun would’ve be glad that you all came.” As soon as she used Jaehyun’s name in the past tense is when she started crying. You didn’t notice that that was the end of her eulogy until she stepped down from the podium and came back to her seat next to you. “It’s your turn sweetie.” She gave you a small smile and nodded her head slightly to the podium.
With legs you thought were going to buckle at any moment, you got up and slowly made your way to the podium. You knew that there were a lot of people there, but it wasn’t until you finally looked up and out into the room to see all the people looking at you. Normally, whenever you had to give speeches in front of a lot of people, Jaehyun was always somewhere in the front, smiling from ear to ear, showing off his dimples, and giving you two thumbs up. But Jaehyun was next to you now, though he wasn’t smiling or whispering to the person next to him saying “that’s the love of my life”, while proudly pointing at you.
You didn’t want to look at him because you knew that if you looked for too long, all you could do was start crying, however, you couldn’t tear your eyes off of him. “Jung Jaehyun was the love of my life. And I’m not sure what else to say, he was and still is, in simple terms, everything to me. He was my boyfriend and my best friend all in one. I wanted to grow old with him, we talked about it, all the time. Getting married, having kids, living our lives with the other by our side. I can’t even think about what I’m going to do now that he’s gone.” Your words were no longer audible, muted by sniffles and sobs.
“Hey Y/n, let’s go sit down, yeah? Or we can go outside and get some fresh air if you would like to. Whatever you want.” Johnny, one of Jaehyun’s best friends had gotten up from his seat to try and coax you off the podium. “I want Jae.” Johnny just sighed and took your arm, much like Jaehyun’s mother had done, and led you out of the room.
Your cries got louder, and you started to lose the ability to breath. You were gasping for air, the feeling of drowning taking over your body, leading you to the ground. Johnny hadn’t gone back in, scared to leave your side, he sat down next to you. He lightly rubbed your back as you stained his suit jacket with drops of watered-down mascara.
 You couldn’t decide if the day drug on or flew by. Maybe both if that was possible. It seemed as if the day itself flew by, but the minutes seemed to never end. With time not seeming to work right, all the crying, and everyone coming to talk to you, a headache formed, and you just wanted Jaehyun back.
 Normally when you had a headache, Jaehyun would rub your temples and to help you fall asleep, he would lightly trace your facial features, your eyelids, nose, lips, and that always seemed to work because the next thing you knew was that you were walking up the next day.
 Before you knew it, you heard Johnny getting up beside you. “I have to go help carry Jaehyun, the burial is about to start, I’ll come stand by you during it, but Jae’s mom is going to come walk with you.”
 Johnny went back inside but Jaehyun’s mom quickly filled the now empty space beside you. Without saying anything she helped you stand up and caught up with the group that started to head over to the empty hole in the ground.
 “I don’t want them to put him in there. They need to leave him alone. I don’t want him to be gone.” You rested your head on Jaehyun’s mother’s shoulder and quietly blubbered in her ear. “I know Y/n, I know.” She pulled you even more into her embraced and placed her chin on your shoulder. For a while you two just held each other while crying. But you completely broke down when you saw Jaehyun’s coffin being carried towards where the group was gathered.
 Johnny and Taeyong were in front, then Doyoung and Mark, Yuta and Haechan, and in the back was Jeno and Taeil. Following them was Jungwoo carrying a bouquet of roses. They all were crying, some better at hiding it than others, but all of them had tears cascading down their cheeks. They walked up the pathway that was made by the group dividing, the rest of Jaehyun’s friends on one side and his family and you on the other. The men carrying the coffin placed it on the lowering device and walked to the side where the rest of his friends were. Jungwoo placed the roses on the coffin, wiped his tears and joined the rest of Jaehyun’s friends.
 Johnny said a parting word to Taeyong and Mark, who he was standing between and joined your side that Jaehyun’s mom wasn’t occupying. You should’ve paid more attention but all you could stare at was the part of the coffin where Jaehyun’s head would be. But then the coffin started lowering and both Johnny and Jaehyun’s mom tighten their grips on you. Your crying turned into screaming and you started thrashing to get out of their grips.
 In any other situation you would’ve been embarrassed but as you watched the coffin disappear into the ground, all you could see was the future you’d be forced to live without Jaehyun with you.  “No, no, no. Jaehyun! You can’t take him from me!” Johnny pulled you into his chest and him and Jaehyun’s mother tried to calm you down by rubbing up and down your back and quietly shushing you. “I don’t want him to leave! I need him!”
 When you first found out that Jaehyun had died, it was in the middle of the night. The police had shown up at your door at 2:42 AM to deliver the news to you. At first, you were in shock, not being able to believe it, your face just paled, and you were unable to speak.
 But seeing his coffin being lowered into the ground snapped everything into place for you. The box that the love of your life was in, was never going to see the light of day again. You’d never be able to have your Jaehyun again. He was now, officially gone.
 After the funeral and burial, you booked an Uber to take you home by yourself with your spiraling headache following close behind.  You could barely see straight, and any noise that was made just caused your headache to get even worse. It felt like the world was spinning, and your vision had gone spotty.
You were waiting on the sidewalk outside of the funeral home when a car pulled up. “Uber for Y/n?” You just nodded and quickly got into the back seat before you your legs gave out. Sitting down and feeling the AC blow cool air onto you helped your headache ease a little bit.
 The silence was broken when the Uber driver turned down the radio and spoke up. “I’m sorry for your loss, Ms.” You nodded even though he was looking forward. “Thank you.” Neither of you said anything after that but it wasn’t awkward.
 Feeling the coldness of the window on your forehead from leaning on the glass helped calm your headache even more. It was now just a dull ache that matched the ache in your chest. You watched as the city you had explored with Jaehyun passed your eyes as the Uber driver drove you to your house. Or your neighbor’s house a couple doors down.
 Not wanting to say that he’s a few houses down, you just paid the driver and got out of the car. Your neighbor was out on his porch, smoking as always. He was a grumpy old man and Jaehyun said that if he ever got like that when he was old that you had permission to put him in a nursing home.
 You got your phone out of the dress pocket and went to rate the Uber driver before you forgot but your neighbor started speaking out loud, making you look up from phone and at him.
 "Hey kid, you young people are always on your phones these days, how about you pick up a newspaper for once and learn something." The man tossed the newspaper that was lying in his yard at you. It fell a few feet away, but you stepped closer to crouch down and grab it.
 The man said something under his breath and flicked his cigarette to the ground, stomping it out after mouthing some words at you. The last breath of smoke came flowing out of his nose as he turned to walk back up his porch and into his house.
 Another neighbor had come out of her house and tried to start up a conversation but with the way the wind was blowing your hair in your face, your headache was starting to make its return, and the eerie feeling the man gave you, you needed to leave. Immediately. You needed to go lie down after drinking some water.
Speed walking to your house with only tripping on a sidewalk crack once, you made your way to your shared home with Jaehyun. As soon as you opened the door, his aroma hit your nostrils and you closed your eyes, you could just imagine him welcoming you home. But when you opened your eyes, you were alone in your dark entryway. No Jaehyun asking how your day was, no Jaehyun dragging you to either the couch to watch TV or the bedroom depending on what type of day he had, no burning smell coming from the kitchen from Jaehyun cooking. No Jaehyun. You didn’t have Jaehyun anymore.
 Not wanting to scream and cry anymore today, you took a shaky breath and tossed the newspaper on the ottoman that sat in front of the couch. You swallowed, but realized that there wasn’t anything to swallow, your mouth was dry, causing you to remember the water you’ve been wanting. Trying to just look straight ahead in hopes of not thinking of Jaehyun, you headed to the kitchen. But of course, everything reminded you of him. His chair at the dining room table for one, it was like you could see him smiling up at you with only love and adoration in his eyes.
 Once you turned the corner from the living room to the kitchen you tensed up, waiting for Jaehyun to pop out and scare you like he always did but the scare never came. When you opened the cabinet that held the glasses and cups that Jaehyun came along to help you pick out, well you picked them out, he acted like a child and complained when you said he couldn’t go to the vinyl section just yet, you saw the mug he reluctantly picked out because he thought it was nice. Slightly moving to the left, ready for his arm to reach over your right shoulder to grab the mug for his drink, but again his arm never came.
 So used to him leaning on the cabinet next to you, you were expecting his face to be revealed once you close the cabinet door. When you looked to your left, there wasn’t anyone there, just the dining room table and behind that, the large windows that showed the backyard, as well as the street.
 Jaehyun always talked about wanting to see your kids grow up and play in that backyard, thinking of that just made everything come crashing down. The glass of water, falling from your hand and shattering as soon as it hit the floor. You fell also, your knees giving out, using your hands to catch yourself, you hissed in pain.
 Lifting your hand off the ground, and turning your palm up, you saw several little cuts and red indents from the glass that had just broke. Not giving a fuck anymore you used your right hand to sweep the small slivers of glass out of your way as your left hand held up your almost entirely limp body. Once most of the glass what out of your way for now, you just laid down. Crying in your kitchen, in the fetal position, with glass shards around you and blood dripping from your palms, you whispered his name before blacking out.
It wasn’t the sun that woke you up, the kitchen island covered you from the sun light that poured through the open blinds, but the ring of your phone. Blindly searching around for your phone, you just felt the pieces of glass that surrounded you. But you were too upset and tired to care enough to get up and actually look for your phone. The ringing would stop soon anyway.
 The ringing did stop soon, and instead of the ringing, frantic knocking on your front door replaced the sound. Then, yelling added to the frantic knocking. “Y/n! Open the door! It’s me, Johnny!” Slowly, you picked yourself up and wiped your hands on the tights you wore underneath the black dress that you forgot to change out of. The wiping only caused the pieces of glass that managed to stay in your palms through your tossing and turning during the night to shift. Johnny started knocking again but before he could yell, you made your way to the door and opened it just a bit.
The man sighed in relief, instantly feeling a invisible weight lift off of his shoulders when he saw that you were there. “Oh good, you’re still here.” Johnny smiled a bit at you. “Of course, I’d be here, I live here.” He just shook his head and under his breath he said, “That’s not exactly what I meant.” Understanding, you just looked down and nodded.
 “Are you bleeding?” Johnny’s voice was still calm but laced with concern and confusion. Based on the situation, of course he thought the worse, but you spoke up before he could ask any more questions, “I dropped a glass and passed out when I got home.” Immediately offering to clean up the mess for you, Johnny just squeezed through the crack between the door and door frame and led himself to the center of the living room. “Alright, where is the mess?” You just pointed to the kitchen and Johnny, silently started picking up the bigger shards.
“Hey Y/n, while I pick up the rest of the glass, how about you go wash your hands, try to remove as much as the glass as you can with tweezers and then I’ll come help you. Is your broom and dust pan still in the closet over here?” “Uh-huh”, you left Johnny in the kitchen to go follow his instructions with removing the glass in the bathroom.
Finding the tweezers and first aid kit wasn’t hard since Jaehyun always insisted that it was important to keep it in reach and keep everything in there full. Grabbing the kit and tweezers and setting it on the vanity, you rinsed the dried blood from your palms so you could see the cuts easier. The glass was embedded into your skin, and it would hurt to take out, but stiches wouldn’t be needed.
“Y/n, I finished cleaning the glass, I’ll come help you in a moment.” Taking a closer look at your palm, you started to remove the glass yourself. Wincing, whenever you had to dig a bit deep to retrieve the shard, but soon your palm was clear of any glass. Losing folding your hand so you could run along the welts with your fingertips caused you to hiss.
Just as you were about to trade the tweezers to your other hand, Johnny came in and took them out of your hold. Without saying anything he held out his other hand. Giving him the hand that still had glass pieces sticking out, he quickly started to remove the bits. Looking at the reelection the mirror showed you saw how messed up you truly looked.  Wrinkled clothes from yesterday, slightly bloody hands with blood on your arms, chapped lips, and streaks of mascara along your cheeks. Even though the sight of yourself was alarming enough, it was when you saw a familiar head of hair peeking out behind Johnny.
The owner of the hair slowly appeared, his eyes were glossed over, the iris and pupils were no longer visible, only the lens of his eyes which were a cloudy opaque white. His nose was crooked and had dried blood coming out of both nostrils. Shards of glass were stuck in all different parts of his face, there was a bump on one of his temples, and the thing that really made your breath hitch besides just seeing him, was the fact that his neck was limp. Jaehyun had died on impact, his neck immediately breaking when the car driving on the wrong side of the road hit him head on. His mouth was turned into a slight smile, the one thing no one had changed from the moment he died to the moment he was buried. They cleaned the blood off of him, they put him suit, propped his neck up, did all the regular things people do to get a dead person ready for burial, but no one, touch the slight smile that was on his face.
He was there, looking over Johnny’s shoulder at the scene that was playing out in front of him. You hadn’t turned around yet, but that didn’t stop you from saying “Johnny, you need to leave.” “What? Y/n, I was just trying to help, did I do something wrong.” His eyes and voice were laced with panic and concerned. “It doesn’t matter you need to leave. Now. Get out of my house.” Johnny softly apologized and told you that you could call him whenever. He turned around and walked right through Jaehyun.
You still haven’t turned around, but Jaehyun faded out when Johnny walked where he was standing but quickly reappeared. His head tilted a bit and the sickeningly sweet smile stayed, with those emotionless gray eyes still staring straight into your soul. “Jaehyun?” You slowly turned your body, but when you were completely turned around, Jaehyun was gone. You whipped your head back to the mirror, but he wasn’t there anymore either.
“Jaehyun?” You asked yourself out loud while walking out of bathroom and into the hallway. He wasn’t anywhere to be seen. Continuing to look for him was a lost cause, he was gone. But of course, you refused to believe that.
Jaehyun never appeared again, with every little breeze that chilled your bones and brought goosebumps to your skin, there wasn’t a blurry Jaehyun passing by.
The next week passed slowly, no waking up to Jaehyun kissing your face, no Jaehyun standing in the bathroom mirror, getting ready for the day, no Jaehyun laughing, no Jaehyun smiling, no Jaehyun.
You just spent your days running on nothing, no food, no sleep, you couldn’t even remember the last time you changed your clothes. Roaming around you and Jaehyun’s was what you did every day, all day. Turning the corner into the living room for what felt like the 50th time that day, and it probably was, you saw the old newspaper that has been in the back of your mind.
Staring down the newspaper and slowly approaching the couch, Jaehyun’s cologne trapped you as soon as you sat down. Just going for it and ripping off the Band-Aid, you opened the newspaper. Something wasn't right though, the date on it, wasn't today's. Well, it was today’s, but not this year’s, or last year’s or even next year’s.
May 31, 1972
Today, but 50 years ago. All the content of the newspaper was normal, politics, town news, advice columns, ads, and even a recipe or two. But one thing about the ads was none of them seemed real.
Want to know where your dreams come from? Meet the person who pick them out!
Remember that childhood imaginary friend? Revisit them today!
Missing someone who's dead? Talk to them now!
Curious about who is watching over you? Everyone has their very own guardian angel, meet yours!
Are you lonely? Order your very own partner!
This has to be a hoax; some teenagers probably threw this is the man's yard wanting to prank and confuse him. But of course, this was the day he threw it at you. Not caring enough to think about the what’s and why’s for too much longer and in dire need of a good chuckle, you looked at the ad about calling the dead.
Missing someone who's dead? Talk to them now!
Is there someone who has passed away that you miss dearly? Well, you can talk to them now! Call the number below!
xxx-xxx-xxxx
Just remember to interact with friends and family outside of speaking with your departure and don’t crowd and overwhelm your departure as they adapt to their new surroundings. This stage is new for everyone.
What a piece of shit.
There were more words under the short paragraph, in much smaller print, but already being skeptical, you didn’t care enough to strain your eyes.
. But with not having anything else to do, you grabbed your phone and punched in each of the digits and pressed the dial button.
"Hello, I'm Steven with Talking to Death! Is there someone you've been missing recently that has died? If so, please state their name, your name, your relation to the person, their death date, and cause of death. If not, I'm not sure why you called this number, but how may I help you anyways?"
"Is this some sort of prank?" You were skeptical with the whole thing. "I understand why you would think that, but we have been a respected company since 1897. Unfortunately, to be able to speak to your loved one, you must believe that you'll be able to talk to them." Steven responded through the phone, seemingly tired of this question but still replying with a joyful customer service type voice.
"Okay, but why haven't I heard of this before?" "Well, it is obviously a king of odd and not everyone goes around telling people about this in fear of sounding crazy, is there someone you would actually like to speak to?"
"Um, yeah, my boyfriend, Jeong Jaehyun died a week ago, so May 24. He died in a car accident." You slightly stuttered through your words, not expecting someone to actually be serious.
"Okay, and now I just need your name." "Y/n L/n." "Alrighty, Ms. L/n, he checked in five days ago and has had time to settle. I will put the call through to his line and he will pick up when he is ready. One thing to remember though, make sure not to get too attached because he isn't in your world anymore, please use with caution. Thank you for calling us and have a good rest of your day."
Steven transferred the call over and as you were waiting, some peaceful jazz music played. It wasn't annoying like elevator music; it was nice and put you in a calm and relaxed state.
The music lasted for a couple minutes, and with each minute that passed, you started to lose hope a bit more but then, the relaxed aura that now surrounded you vanished when you heard him.
“Hello?” It’s him. “Jaehyun?” “Y/n?” “Oh my god! It’s really you, is it? Really you?” You could hear him chuckle from the other side of the line. It was deep and hearty, something you had started to deeply miss.
“Yes Y/n, it is really me. Jaehyun.” “My Jaehyun.” “My Y/n.” You couldn’t help yourself and all the tears started running down your cheeks all at once.
The absurdity of it all caught up with you, even with the tears and the silent sobs trying to force their way out of your body, you couldn’t help but laugh. Hysterically. You were talking to your dead boyfriend.
“I don’t even know what to say. How are you? What was dying like? Are you okay?” Having about a million questions running through head was making the room spin. “Well, I’m doing okay. Nothing hurts, I feel, almost weightless. Dying wasn’t anything like people said it was. My head hit the steering wheel and I woke up in this lobby, or a waiting room. And there was no Jesus, bright light, or stairway that led to the gates of heaven.”
Just wanting to hear Jaehyun talk more, you stayed silent so you could cherish the moment you were given. “Anyways, this world, or whatever, is pretty similar to ours in a sense, for now, I’m just in this hotel room until my house is created. Enough about me though, I’ve missed you, how are you?”
A dry chuckle left your throat, “A fucking trainwreck. I told myself that I’d never be dependent on a man, but here I am, an absolute dumpster fire. Johnny came by to check on me and when I didn’t answer my phone or the door right away he thought I had killed myself. I screamed and kicked at your funeral like a toddler throwing a tantrum. Johnny and your mom even had to hold me down so I wouldn’t jump in your grave when they lowered your casket.” Recalling the events, you felt your stomach twist. Not out of embarrassment, but of how you felt, even just looking back, you felt like puking.
“I’m sorry you had to go through that Y/n.” It was obvious that Jaehyun didn’t know what to say in this situation. However, you were sure that the conversations would go back to almost normal with time.
Clearing his throat in hopes of getting rid of the awkwardness, Jaehyun spoke up after minutes of silence. “Well, I have to go, Y/n. I love you, so much.” Wait.
“What? Jaehyun, we just started talking again? Did I say something wrong? We’re always open with each other? What’s going on?”
Taking a deep breath, Jaehyun was able to calm you like he always did. “You can call me tomorrow, it’ll be okay. I love you.”
“I love you too.” But he had already hung up before your brain and body allowed you to get the words out. Staring down at your phone’s keypad, you were alone again.
You were climbing up the walls for the rest of the day, not being able to think about anything but calling Jaehyun, your body just couldn’t stop shaking. Too buzzed on the thought of speaking to him again, no matter what you did, you couldn’t just calm down.
No matter how slow time seemed to go by, tomorrow did eventually come. You decided to call Jaehyun around noon.
Having already saved the number in your phone, you clicked it and pressed call.
"Hello, I'm Steven with Talking to Death! Is there someone you've been missing recently that has died? If so, please state their name, your name, your relation to the person, their death date, and cause of death. If not, I'm not sure why you called this number, but how may I help you anyways?"
“Hello Steven! It’s Y/n, Jeong Jaehyun’s girlfriend, may I please speak to him.” Your response to the man was much for cheerful this time around than your first greeting. “Ah, Y/n. Now that your number is in our system and Mr. Jeong is aware that you can call him, whenever you call him from now on, you will just be automatically transferred to his line. But, I cannot stress this enough, make sure you do not overwhelm him and please seek communication and other forms of social life in your own world.”
“Okay Steven, just transfer my call to Jae.” With only a sigh of dispute, Steven respected your wishes and soon the jazz music that quickly became familiar, welcomed you.
“Hey Y/n. How are you today?” He didn’t sound excited or in the very least, content that you were calling, even with him telling you it was okay to call today. “I’m doing okay, but how are you, you’re the one that sounds upset.” He just claimed that he was fine, and honestly, the sound of his distaste towards talking to you, broke you inside.
The conversation ended up being just like the one that occurred the day before. It was full of awkward silence, passive aggressive comments, and annoyance. You didn’t know what you were doing wrong, you didn’t think you had said something wrong, but Jaehyun was acting like you were the one who killed him, and you had no idea why.
Even if he seemed more and more upset, you never stopped calling.
“Hey Jae?” He just hummed. “Did I do something wrong?” He huffed and just responded with a simple, “No”. “Well, then why are you acting like this? I saw you in the mirror the day after the funeral, I thought you’d want to talk to me.”
You sniffled and that’s when he finally said something again, “Y/n, I never appeared in a mirror, that was your imagination. And it’s not like I don’t want to talk to you, it’s just going to be harder for you to let go and move on.”
You didn’t get why he thought you’d want to let him go and move on, he was your everything, you didn’t care how many times you’d have to say it, but you simply couldn’t stress it enough, you love him.
“You’re just tired Jaehyun. You need to get more sleep; I’ll call you tomorrow. I love you.”
“I love you too, Y/n.”
The call ended and you could feel your eye twitch a bit. Were you actually going crazy? You hadn’t left your house in weeks, you hadn’t had a normal sleep, shower, or eating schedule since Jaehyun died.
Walking to the bathroom to just wash your face of the tears you hadn’t know that fell. You turned towards the sink and placed your palms on the cold marble. A slight sting spread throughout your palms, so you pulled them from the counter, and you saw eight crescent moons made from blood.
Happening without your notice, your hands had clenched into fists so hard that your nails had made small indents into your palms.
Going ahead and washing your hands before your face, you looked at yourself in the mirror for the first time in a long time and you could hardly recognize the sight in front of you. The dark circles under your eyes, your skin wasn’t as vibrant, and you had lost a significant amount of weight. What happened?
That question made you giggle to yourself a bit. It was pretty funny in your opinion, it did cause you to laugh for the first time in weeks, or maybe you’re just delusional at this point. The little question was easy to answer, you lost your entire world, there wasn’t much else to say.
You kept your word to Jaehyun, you did call the next day. The only thing is, he didn’t answer.
It was now your fourth time calling Jaehyun for the day, however, there was still no answer. He shouldn’t be busy; he was supposed to be expecting your call. You were about to redial the number for the fifth time until a knock on your door was heard. You put your phone down, your hand slightly shaky as you did so. Slowly, you walked towards your front door and looked through the peephole, only to see Johnny.
You sighed as your unlocked the door, pulling it open to see Johnny smile sheepishly at you. “Y/n! How are you doing?” Did he find out that he could talk to Jaehyun too? Was that the reason Jaehyun had started to answer less and less.
Raising your right eyebrow you said, “Hello Johnny, I’m fine. How are you?”
“Y/n, no one has seen or even heard from you since the funeral, and I haven’t seen or heard from you since the day after. Are you sure you’re doing alright everyone’s worried about you, me, Jae’s mom, and the rest of the boys.”
Already irritated and only being able to think about calling Jaehyun, you started to close the door, “Yes, I said I’m fine and I would really like to be alone now.” Your voice got louder as you continued to speak. “Please leave me alone and tell everyone to stop calling. I need the line free.” Finally slamming the door and locking it, you rushed back to where you had set your phone down.
Was it possible for Jaehyun to call you? You doubted it, but just in case it was possible, you needed to make sure that your phone was always free.
Running back to your phone once you made sure Johnny had left, you couldn’t stop shaking. It had been only a couple minutes since you last tried calling but you didn’t care. He was yours; you were allowed to talk to him.
It took a few tries because you kept accidently hitting the wrong number because of how bad you were actually shaking. But finally, you tapped the last number and hit call.
It rung for a bit before you heard the groggily and almost annoyed, “Hello Y/n.”
“Why didn’t you answer?” Jaehyun sighed on the other side of the line, and you could imagine him rubbing his temples. “Y/n. I really think we need to stop doing this. We’re both in really different places right now.” You felt your breathing picking up. You had just got him back and now he was leaving you again.
“No, no, no, I need you! Don’t you understand? I can’t go on without you and I just got you back!” Tears were starting to run down your cheeks and Jaehyun just went silent for a bit. But after listening to you mumble barely audible sentences about him leaving and you needing him, he spoke up. “It would be different if we were together again Y/n, and that’s not really possible.” But it is.
It was your turn to go silent and now Jaehyun could see the gears turning in your head. “Y/n please, don’t do it. You still have your entire life ahead of you. I’m gone, but that doesn’t mean you need to follow me. Please, please, please, do not do it. Take a deep breath, we can still call as long as you don’t do anything you’ll regret.” Jaehyun was now the one who was breathing heavily and speaking quickly. But you, you on the other hand had gone eerily silent.
 “How could I ever regret something that’ll let me see you again? And what’s the point of living the rest of my life if you’re not right beside me? We could be happy again Jae.”
 “No, Y/n, you don’t understand what this means. There’s no going back, please don-" “I do understand, I love you more than anything, I can’t live without you, and I don’t want to either. I love you, so, so much. We’ll be together again soon Jaehyun.”
Hanging up before Jaehyun could say anything else to you, you pushed the end call button with your thumb. Crazed by the idea of being with Jaehyun again and being overcome with adrenaline, you started walking to the garage.
 After making sure the garage door was fully shut, you sat in you and Jaehyun’s shared car. The cool temperature of the leather on your burning skin, along with the scent of Jaehyun, you were intoxicated. Putting the key in the ignition and turning, while holding your foot on the break, the car came to life. Turning on the air conditioner, so you could be comfortably cold and leaning back, letting yourself sink into the seat.
 What you didn’t know was that Jaehyun had left his room in the hotel and sprinted down all the stairs and to the lobby, without being able to run out of breath, his question came out clearly and urgently. “Can we call someone from the world we came from?” The man with the name tag that read Steven, looked slightly down, and shook his head. “I’m afraid not, these calls are only one-way calls, meaning only one side can call, and that side is the living world.”
 About to start crying, Jaehyun tried to argue. “You don’t understand. This is an emergency. I need to call my girlfriend; I have to convince her not to do anything irrational.” Jaehyun’s eyes were wide with crazy hidden behind them.
 “I am really sorry Mr. Jeong, but there is nothing, and I mean nothing, that I can possibly do to help you reach her.”
 Finally, letting the tears slip, he sunk to his knees in the middle of the lobby of the hotel. There were quite a few newcomers that night, many of them being new to the environment, stared. Regular residents of hotel could imagine what was happening. The dead doesn’t have too much to worry about anymore, some though still held feelings and emotions for past loved ones.
 Jaehyun was asked to return to his room, as he was starting to scare the newly-deads. With puffy eyes and tousled hair from pulling at it, he curled up on his bed with the one item he was allowed to choose and bring to his new life with him, the ring he was going to propose with. That’s actually the reason he was going to be home late the night he had died. Although, if he hadn’t gone to the jeweler’s that night to buy the ring, he would be cuddling with you on your guys’ couch right now. He still doesn’t regret going to buy the ring, he loved you and wanted to spend the rest of his life with you, and even though it wasn’t like he planned, he still got to live his life with you by his side.
 Thinking about that, he started to remember what caused these thoughts.
 Time passed differently in both worlds, Jaehyun’s seconds were slower than yours. So, what was two hours for him, was actually around four hours for you.
 With four hours passing, you were starting to fall asleep, it was harder to think straight and remember everything, but you could still remember Jaehyun. Before you couldn’t think about anything anymore, all your favorite memories replayed in your mind, there were a few that didn’t involve Jaehyun, but he still was the main star in your movie of life. The last thing you thought of wasn’t even a memory. It was what you had imagined your future with Jaehyun to be like.
Allowing one final tear to slide down your cheek, your eyes fluttered shut.
Johnny Can't Decide
Johnny Suh x Reader
Word Count: 1,393
Content Warnings: ANGST, Johnny and Reader are stressed out and snap at each other. If you think I missed a warning let me know!
There will be a part 2. I'll post it as soon as it's finished.
Author's Note: The title was taken from the song of the same name from "Tick, Tick... Boom!"
Fic is under the cut.
“Johnny, can you change Mina’s diaper? I’m putting laundry in the dryer.”
Johnny froze the second he entered your baby’s nursery. Between work and being a new father, he was stressed constantly and had no idea how to ask for help. He knew he had to get his shit together, but he was lost when it came to taking care of a baby. It also didn’t help that he was barely sleeping, and he was only eating during his lunch breaks at work. His friends had offered to help in any way they could, but Johnny was unsure of what exactly they could help with. So, he always said he was fine. However, he was very much not fine.
“Babe, I asked you to change Mina’s diaper. Why are you just standing in the doorway?”
“I was just thinking, I’m sorry.”
“Less thinking, more doing. She’s gonna get a rash if she isn’t changed right away,” you said as you changed your daughter’s diaper. Once she was changed, you put her to sleep. Then, you sat at the kitchen table to do some thinking of your own.
You were not handling being a parent well at all. You were barely eating, barely sleeping, and barely functioning most days. Your mother had stayed with you for the first few weeks to help you care for Mina, but she had to go back home to take care of your sick father. Your work had also piled up while you were on maternity leave, and none of your coworkers were willing to help. You felt like you were drowning, and almost no one was willing to step in and pull you up for air.
The only exception had been your best friend, Chaewon. No matter what you needed, all you had to do was call and she was by your side. When you needed to vent, she listened. When you were overwhelmed taking care of Mina, she babysat so you could rest. You were incredibly grateful for a friend like her. Especially when your child’s own father seemed to barely put in an effort.
You were pulled out of your thoughts by Johnny giving you a hug from behind. As he hugged you, he said “I’m sorry. I’ve been really stressed out between work and the baby, and sometimes it makes me shut down. I promise I’m gonna be a better partner to you and a better father to Mina. I love you.”
“I love you too. Thank you, I needed a hug.”
“How about while Mina sleeps, we take the opportunity to get some rest? We could lie down on the couch and watch a movie.”
“That sounds great, honey. I love you.”
“I love you too, sweetheart.”
The two of you made your way to the couch, found a comfy position, and chose a movie from Netflix. It didn’t hold your attention long, however. The opening credits had barely finished and you were sound asleep on Johnny’s chest. He fell asleep shortly after you did, and the two of you got to rest and be together until a cry woke you up. Immediately you were off the couch and on your way to Mina’s crib, but you were stopped by Johnny, who insisted on giving you a break.
“Hey, little princess,” you heard from your bedroom, “how was your rest?” Mina cried louder in response, as if to tell her dad that she hadn’t slept well. “I know, little love, but it’s ok. I’ve got you. Daddy is right here.”
He carried her to the living room humming “Isn’t She Lovely,” a song that she had loved since the first time he sang it for her. You had no idea how, but something about it just instantly calmed your little girl. Hearing Johnny singing to her also filled you with joy that you never thought was possible before you became a mother.
The joy didn’t last, however. A month after your conversation with Johnny, you realized that nothing had really changed. He did help sometimes, sure, but most of the parenting duties continued to fall squarely on your shoulders. The only thing you could count on him to regularly take on was putting her to sleep with that stupid song. You used to love hearing Johnny sing to Mina, but “Isn’t She Lovely” had started to get on your nerves. The song that had once reminded you of your love for your baby and her father had become a cruel reminder of how little Johnny seemed to care. You decided that you would talk to Johnny again, and if he didn’t put in more effort, your relationship would be done.
The conversation went basically the same as it did last time, for the most part. He apologized and told you he was overwhelmed, but this time the two of you worked together to find ways to make everything that needed to be done less overwhelming. You called Chaewon, who had a daughter of her own, and asked her to help with taking care of Mina. She gladly agreed to help, and she and her husband, Mark, worked with Johnny a few days a week so you could rest. It was a good first step to what you hoped would lead to a stronger relationship and more balance in the amount of work done at home.
For about a month Chaewon and Mark helped Johnny get more comfortable changing diapers and making bottles. It was a huge help, and seeing Johnny so involved with caring for Mina made your heart soar. And anyone with eyes could see that Mina adored her father. She smiled every time he picked her up, and every time he sang to her, she was calm immediately. Their bond made you feel like no matter what, everything would be ok.
It only took a few weeks for everything to fall apart again. After Chaewon and Mark stopped coming over, and for a while everything was great. Your little girl was taken care of, and both of you were feeling less overwhelmed. That all changed, however, when Johnny’s boss assigned him a huge project. Suddenly all of his time was taken up by work, and you were back to square one. He was also stressed all the time. This led to him snapping at you and ignoring Mina, and you were getting tired of the fighting. You decided to talk to him one night after dinner to see if you could come up with a solution.
“Honey? I noticed that you’ve been a little bit stressed about work. Is there anything I can do?”
“I’m fine, I just need to get this project done.”
“Johnny, darling, I love you. It’s obvious that this project is stressing you out, I just want to help.”
“I said I’m fine! God, why are you such a nag?”
“I’m not trying to nag you, for fuck’s sake. I’m trying to find some way to help you because you’re driving yourself crazy trying to finish this project!”
“I can handle it myself! Why does it bother you so much? I’m just trying to support you and Mina.”
“Do not bring Mina into this. You don’t even make an effort to be around for her anymore, you’re always fucking working.”
“Don’t act like I never make time for her.”
“You don’t, though. When was the last time you fed her or changed her diaper or put her to sleep?”
Johnny was silent.
“Exactly. I know that work can get stressful, believe me. My boss has me training 2 new people right now. But I can’t just ignore Mina when I’m stressed. She still needs to be taken care of, and I just wish that you would help me out a little bit.”
“You know that I have a lot on my plate right now”
“Yes, I know that. This whole conversation was supposed to be about how we could work together to fix that.”
Again, he was silent.
“You know what? I’m done. I’m gonna call Chaewon and see if Mina and I can stay with her. That will take some things off of your plate.”
Johnny started to say something, but was interrupted by a cry coming from Mina’s crib. You walked away to see what was wrong, leaving Johnny to think about what you had said.
The Sleepover
Non idol AU!Mark Lee x Reader
Tumblr media
Genre: Fluff
Words: 450
No warnings!
Proof Read by @thinkingofmark and Aienna!
Suggested by @thinkingofmark
——
Author’s note:
This is my first real „x Reader fanfic“,
I hope you enjoy it!
—————
You were sitting in your Living room watching some movie,
Suddenly, hear your phone ring, you looked at your phone to see that your Boyfriend, Mark, is calling you, you paused your movie, and you pick up the phone and hear your boyfriend's voice: “Yo Dude!” you can't help but chuckle “what's up Marky?” “Well, I wanted to ask if you'd like to sleep over because uhh… my Roommate, Johnny, is visiting his Parents in Chicago”, Mark said calmly but also a little nervous,
you say yes because it was rare that you two could be alone at his place, after you said yes you could hear an excited Mark on the other end.
You talked for what seemed hours until it was time to get ready for your sleepover,
you pack a pajama, not any pajama but the matching pajama you and Mark bought together, you can only smile seeing the pajama because it reminded you of Mark.
As you finished packing, you made your way out of your apartment, seeing the snow on the ground, you nearly slipped on the frozen ground as you made your way to your boyfriend's place.
As you arrived at his door, you rang the doorbell, not waiting for long because Mark quickly opened the door. “Hey Y/N! Come inside”, you went inside and give him a little peck on his cheek, making Mark smile.
After you took off your jacket and your shoes, mark and you went into his living room, what you saw was the sweetest thing ever, he prepared your favorite snacks and drink, “Aww… Marky, you shouldn't have” you said as you look at mark lovingly,
“no problem, you deserve it darling” giving you his silly smile, how you loved that smile… you could stare at it for days “Darling you're staring again” he said chuckling,
you start blushing slightly at this, Mark loves making you blush, he thinks you look very adorable with it. After some time you two got ready for the Sleepover, you got into your pajamas, put a sheet mask on, and get comfortable on the couch watching a movie.
After some time, Mark fell asleep cuddling you.
You tried to stand up, but Mark grabbed your arm, “please stay….” you hear your boyfriend's voice,
you look at Mark, eyes still closed, holding your Arm, you softly smile at this “I'll just go to the bathroom and I will be right back okay?” “Okay…. But be fast”, you hear a sleepy Mark.
As you came back from the bathroom, you lay next to mark,
“took you long enough….” Mark said cuddling into you,
you kissed his head and closed your eyes, eventually falling asleep.
Do u think becoming child labourers at elementary school/middle school ages stunted the growth of nct dream members. Like is there a universe where mark is a 5'11 business major who just graduated from u of t? Or where jaemin is a 6 foot tall surgeon or something? Much to think about. I have a project due in 15 hours that i haven't started btw
How I Met Your Mother
Tumblr media
Pairing: husband!Yuta x wife!reader
AU: non-idol au
Word Count: 4.9k
Summary: An innocent question from your eight-year-old son takes you and your husband on a trip down memory lane, nearly a decade ago. You both recount the story of how you first met, where Yuta heroically rescued you from an attempted abduction.
A/N: Based on a dream I had of Yuta, I just knew I had to write about it.
MAIN MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
"Mama, papa, how exactly did the two of you first meet?"
Your son, Yuki, was going through an old photo album mainly filled with photos of you and your husband before he was born.
Seeing the younger versions of his parents suddenly piqued his curiosity, making him realise that neither you nor Yuta had ever shared the story of how you initially crossed paths.
Yuta beamed, pulling you closer as you both fondly watched your son flip through the carefully curated album, his eyes sparkling with intrigue. It must have been fascinating for him to catch a glimpse of his parents' lives before his existence.
As memories of your first encounter flooded your thoughts, you couldn't help scrunching up your face, earning a chuckle from your husband as he planted an affectionate kiss on the side of your head.
The way you and he first met wasn't exactly a pleasant memory for you, despite Yuta occasionally bringing it up to brag and tease you about being your knight in shining armour.
It was an unforgettable experience, to say the least.
Although it had been borderline traumatic for you, it was the spark that ignited Yuta's protective instincts whenever it came to you.
You rolled your eyes, a small smile gracing your lips, while your husband cleared his throat eagerly, excited to finally share the story of the beginning of your love story with your son.
"Yuki, my boy, you have no idea how long I've been waiting for you to grow up enough to ask about this."
Your son burst into laughter at his dad's dramatic tone, the exchanged knowing glances between his parents only fueling his curiosity about the story.
"Oh boy, here we go again." You joked but leaned in closer, snuggling into your husband's shoulder, your heart fluttering as he instinctively tightened his hold around you.
"Alright, let's see... It all began one night about ten years ago..."
Your heart thudded loudly in your chest as you continued to distance yourself from the unfamiliar man who had been suspiciously following you for what felt like hours.
It took a while before you realised what was happening.
Perhaps it was your own fault for choosing to go stock up on groceries all alone at this time of the night. Sure, your neighbourhood wasn't necessarily the safest, but at least there hadn't been any crazy crime stories from around the area as of yet.
Well, it looks like I might be the first one.
Clutching your shopping bags tightly, you opted for yet another detour, determined not to lead this stranger back to your home, where he could potentially abduct you or worse, have his way with you, without anyone ever finding out.
A million thoughts raced through your mind, as you imagined all the horrifying scenarios that might unfold tonight. Panic coursed through your veins and you couldn't afford to waste another minute.
Hastily, you pulled your phone out of your pocket and dialled your housemate's number, praying for a lifeline. The ringing felt like an eternity, but it was met with frustrating silence.
Shit, she's not picking up.
You cursed under your breath, clutching your phone tighter, and decided to try other coworkers you knew living around the area. The calls all ended up going to voicemail or, in the best-case scenario, were met with an endless ring.
It was a weeknight, and everyone must be sound asleep.
Your trembling hands struggled to maintain a steady grip on your phone as you felt the stranger drawing closer from behind. The footsteps echoed ominously in the deserted night.
Desperation took over, and you tried dialling another number, your best friend's, hoping he might miraculously be awake. The harsh reality was that everyone seemed to be lost in deep slumber, oblivious to your perilous situation.
Fear gripped your heart as you finally accepted your fate. The stranger's presence loomed closer, sending a shiver down your spine.
It was almost as if god finally heard your prayers.
As you turned a corner, you stumbled upon a man who appeared to be stepping out of his apartment to throw out the trash. He was now on his way back, his back turned to you as he approached the entrance. Your eyes widened in alarm at the sight of this opportunity, and you knew you had to seize it.
With your heart lurching in your chest, you sprinted towards the man, your breath coming in ragged gasps. The sound of footsteps behind you grew louder, and you knew the stranger was chasing you.
You reached the man, your trembling hand gripping his arm, and he snapped to look at you in surprise, "Babe! I called you like a million times, why didn't you answer any of my calls?" You cried out, desperately hoping he'd play along.
Confusion crossed his face.
Much to your chagrin, he began to protest that he didn't know you. But it only took a moment for his gaze to shift from your panicked expression to the strange man skidding to a stop just a few feet behind you.
Seeing the menace in your pursuer's eyes, you whispered shakily, "P-please... please help me. He's been following me for a while now."
The urgency in your voice and the fear in your eyes conveyed the gravity of the situation, and the man's protective instincts kicked in. Without hesitation, he nodded and took a step closer to you.
He smiled reassuringly at you, giving your arm a supportive squeeze, "I'm Yuta. Don't worry, I won't let anything happen to you." He whispered into your ear, his words providing a small semblance of comfort. You nodded appreciatively, grateful for his intervention.
Yuta immediately stepped into the role you assigned him, "I'm sorry, sweetheart. I must've left my phone on mute again." He said, loud enough for the stranger to hear as he pushed you protectively behind him.
Turning to the stranger, he raised a questioning brow and confronted him with a calm but assertive tone, "How may I help you, sir?" Yuta's stance conveyed his readiness to protect you.
You expected the stranger to take the hint, to leave you alone now that your supposed "boyfriend" was around.
But what happened next was unexpected.
The creep didn't appear to be intimidated; instead, he smirked in disbelief, "Don't kid yourself," He sneered, "I know she's not your girlfriend. Just mind your business, step aside, and no one has to get hurt."
Your heart raced in your chest as you gasped, fear grasping at your every nerve, and you clutched the back of Yuta's shirt.
Your breaths were becoming increasingly erratic as the stranger refused to buy into the charade, and dread was taking hold of your every thought. You feared not only for your own safety but also for poor Yuta's. The grip of your fingers on the back of his shirt was almost painful as you held on desperately.
Feeling your distress, Yuta reached behind him to hold your hand, his touch a source of comfort amidst the chaos. He squeezed your hand reassuringly, silently urging you to stay as calm as possible.
Yuta narrowed his brows dangerously in response to the stranger's claim, "Huh, what an odd thing to say," He retorted with a firm tone, "And how, pray tell, do you know she's not my girlfriend?" Yuta's voice carried a subtle edge of menace, and he was prepared to stand his ground.
The stranger, undeterred, took a step closer.
"I suggest you be careful with your every action because we have surveillance cameras installed all over this neighbourhood." Yuta's words were meant to intimidate, but they also served as a warning.
The creep couldn't help tensing up at the threat.
Unbeknownst to you and your stalker, Yuta wasn't alone in this situation. He knew he needed backup and immediately sent a quick text to Mark, his housemate who was a police officer, asking for help using their secret emergency code. As he did so, he continued to hold his ground, doing his best to stall for time, hoping that help would arrive before things escalated any further.
The tension in the air thickened as Yuta and the stranger exchanged veiled threats, each trying to assert their dominance in the standoff. The atmosphere crackled with danger, and it seemed like things could take a nasty turn at any moment.
But then, relief washed over you as Mark, Yuta's housemate, appeared from the apartment gate with wide eyes. Yuta immediately wrapped an arm around your shoulder, his expression shifting from assertive to reassuring.
"Hey Mark," Yuta greeted him calmly, "This guy's been following my girlfriend around the neighbourhood. You're a cop; think you can do something about that?"
Mark understood the situation instantly.
He stepped forward, pulling out his police badge and addressing the stranger with a stern tone, "Sir, is that true?"
Sensing the gravity of the situation and realising that he was now dealing with a police officer, the stranger knew it was in his best interest to give up the charade. He decided to play dumb, attempting to salvage whatever dignity remained.
"Oh, I apologise," He stammered, feigning innocence, "It's just a misunderstanding. I thought she was someone I knew. Now that we have that cleared up, I'll be taking my leave then."
With that, the stranger briskly retreated, vanishing from the scene before you could fully process what just happened. The relief was palpable as the danger lifted, and you were left with the protection of Yuta and the support of Mark, who had come to your rescue.
The moment the stranger was out of sight, the adrenaline that kept you going suddenly drained from your body, leaving your legs weak and unsteady. You felt like your knees were about to give way, and you would have fallen to the ground if it hadn't been for Yuta holding onto you.
"Are you alright, miss?" Mark asked, his concern evident.
You didn't want to do this, but you couldn't help it. You felt tears welling up in your eyes as you broke down in front of your saviours, "Oh my god," You sobbed, your voice trembling, "Th-thank you so much for helping me. Lord knows what he wanted with me."
Yuta held you close, providing a comforting embrace as you tried to collect yourself. Mark stepped in with practical advice, his voice gentle and reassuring, "It's okay," He said, "But I strongly recommend you make a police report about this. It's essential to prevent such incidents from happening to someone else in the future."
You nodded through your tears, thankful for their support.
Relieved by the support and protection Yuta and Mark offered, you agreed to let them walk you home. The companionship and their unwavering presence were comforting as you made your way back.
Along the walk, you introduced yourself and shared the details of what transpired, explaining how the stranger had been tailing you for quite some time before you noticed Yuta when he was throwing out the trash.
Yuta listened attentively, guilt gnawing at him for initially considering turning away from you before realising the danger you were in. He couldn't bear to imagine what might have happened if he had left you to fend for yourself. He vowed silently to always be there for you in times of need.
Mark, on the other hand, made a mental note to keep an eye out for the stranger around the neighbourhood from now on. The incident raised concerns, and he understood the importance of ensuring the safety of everyone in the community.
Upon arriving at your doorstep, Yuta exchanged a silent look with Mark, wordlessly asking his friend for some privacy. Mark nodded knowingly and bid you both farewell before making his way outside, leaving you alone with Yuta.
Looking up at him more closely now, you finally realised how good-looking Yuta was, and before you knew it, your heart began racing for an entirely different reason. He stood before you, nervously biting his lower lip, and you wondered what he wanted to talk to you about.
Minutes felt like hours as you waited for him to speak.
Finally, his cheeks flushed with a slight blush, and he cleared his throat, his voice trembling, "I-it was really nice to meet you, and, umm... now that you know where I live, you can always come to me for help. Oh— uhh... here's my number, you know, just in case..."
You chuckled at his shyness and nodded, taking the name card he held out. Your fingers brushed against his briefly, sending a spark of electricity through you, "Thank you, Yuta," You replied with a smile, "I really appreciate what you did for me tonight. And, it was nice to meet you too."
The tension that filled the air throughout the night seemed to dissipate, leaving a sense of connection and gratitude between you. You knew that you would remember this night not only for the terrifying ordeal but also for the newfound friend who had come to your rescue.
"And that, son, is how I met your mother."
If you thought your son's curiosity would end there, you were wrong. He proceeded with his next question, "Okay, so what happened next? How did you two fall in love?"
You shook your head in amusement as you noticed the excitement building in your husband, ready to delve deeper into the early stages of your love story, "Are you sure you want to find out, Yuki? Once you hear this, no other love story will ever compare to ours."
A laugh bubbled out of your lips, and you playfully smacked Yuta on the chest, "Oh honey, don't listen to your papa. He's being ridiculous," Your husband gasped dramatically, feigning disbelief as he held your hand against his chest, "How dare you? Are you saying our love story isn't the greatest in the world?"
"It's not the greatest love story in the world," You began, snickering at Yuta's pout, "But it is the greatest love story in my heart." Your husband cooed at your words, showering your face with kisses.
Yuki crossed his arms over his chest like the sassy little eight-year-old he is, "Umm, papa? So, are you telling me the story or not?" Yuta pulled away slightly from you, containing his laughter at his son's exasperated expression.
Your husband's penchant for public displays of affection wasn't new, but Yuki still felt a bit embarrassed whenever he witnessed his parents being lovey-dovey around him, "Okay, okay, sheesh. I know you're dying to hear about it, so here we go..."
The following day after the incident, your housemate, Giselle, nearly had a heart attack when she discovered a slew of missed calls from you. Relieved to see you safely asleep in your bed, she couldn't resist checking in on you. And as you recounted the previous night's ordeal, her emotions fluctuated from shock to sly amusement.
After hearing about Yuta and seeing the name card you received, her eyes practically sparkled with excitement, "Ooh, Nakamoto Yuta, huh? Sounds like your next boyfriend to me." She said with a grin.
You chuckled as you playfully threw a pillow at her face, "I swear, you say that about every new guy I meet."
She laughed and shrugged, "Well, maybe this one will be different."
As you contemplated the events of the previous night and the unexpected connection with Yuta, you couldn't help but wonder if Giselle might be onto something.
Your best friend, Jaehyun, finally returned your call after seeing the missed call from the previous night. You recounted the entire incident to him, much like you had with Giselle. Unlike your housemate, his concern was predominantly focused on your well-being rather than the newfound acquaintance, Yuta.
Jaehyun didn't waste any time.
He decided to accompany you to the police station that afternoon during his lunch break from work.
Your best friend blamed himself for not being there for you when you needed him the most, even though it was completely understandable. He was determined to make sure everything was handled properly and that you received the support you needed.
You hadn't expected to run into Yuta again so soon, but it was that very night when you crossed paths while walking back home from the convenience store with your housemate. Ignoring her teasing smirks, you introduced the two to each other, "Oh hi, Yuta! This is my housemate, Giselle. And Giselle, this is Yuta, the kind soul who saved me last night."
Giselle quickly expressed her gratitude, "Gosh, it's so nice to meet you. I can't thank you enough for coming to her rescue!"
Yuta was humble in his response, "Please, don't mention it! It was simply the right thing to do."
His modesty made you feel like perhaps he really was just being a genuinely decent person, and there was nothing more to his kindness. You knew Giselle had a tendency to get carried away with her imagination, always getting you hyped up with false hope.
You exchanged a tight smile with Yuta as you bid your goodbyes. This time, when he offered to walk you home, you politely declined, feeling a sense of independence and confidence that you could handle the walk with your housemate by your side.
It was about a week later that you felt a wave of relief when the police update came in, the stranger who had been following you that fateful night had been arrested for further questioning. It turned out he made multiple attempts to approach other girls in the neighbourhood as well. You hoped this marked the end of that distressing chapter, thinking you might not have a reason to see Yuta again.
Except you were sorely mistaken.
Nakamoto Yuta started showing up almost everywhere.
You saw him at the convenience store, passed him on your way to work and back home, encountered him at the nearby Chinese restaurant, and even spotted him at the library. The first few times felt like mere coincidences, but you gradually began to suspect that he was intentionally crossing paths with you.
One evening, when you decided to go for a jog at the recreational park, you discovered it wasn't just a coincidence.
There he was, running in your direction, his eyes lighting up with recognition as he approached you. It was then that you realised Yuta's appearances in your life weren't accidental; he was actively seeking out opportunities to be around you.
At the recreational park during your jog, you decided to be brave and address the elephant in the room, "Yuta," You began, your heart racing with a mix of excitement and apprehension, "I've noticed we've been running into each other a lot lately. Is there a reason for that?"
His cheeks turned a faint shade of pink, and he looked down shyly before meeting your gaze.
"Well, the truth is," He began, "I've been trying to find ways to talk to you." He paused for a moment, searching for the right words, and then he finally mustered the courage to continue, "I've... I've been attracted to you, and I wanted to get to know you better."
Your eyes widened in disbelief as you tried to process this revelation. Yuta, the kind and handsome Nakamoto Yuta, was interested in you? It felt like a dream come true, and your heart fluttered at the thought. You didn't know what to say, but your smile spoke volumes about your feelings, as you felt your own attraction to him growing with each passing moment.
Yuta's nerves seemed to get the best of him as he mistook your initial silence for rejection. In a quick, slightly frantic ramble, he stumbled over his words, saying, "I mean, it's okay if you don't feel the same way, or if you already have a boyfriend. I completely understand."
But you didn't let him finish his self-doubting monologue. You grabbed his trembling hands with a warm smile, putting his anxieties to rest, "Yuta," You said, "I don't have a boyfriend, and I feel the same way. I'm just as attracted to you."
His eyes widened at your words, and a look of pure surprise washed over his face. Your giggles escaped uncontrollably as you found him utterly adorable when flustered. You felt him tighten his hold on your hand, and he took a step closer to you, closing the gap between you two, a mix of excitement and relief in his eyes.
"Well, if that's the case, will you go out on a date with me?" He seized the perfect opportunity to ask you out, and you didn't hesitate for a moment before agreeing, "I thought you'd never ask." The prospect of spending more time with him filled you with excitement and anticipation.
Later that night, you would meet Yuta for dinner.
Giselle couldn't resist teasing you endlessly as she helped you pick out the perfect outfit, offering fashion advice and supportive comments that made you blush and laugh.
Her closet was a whirlwind of options as she held up dresses, skirts, and tops, "How about this one? It'll look amazing on you!"
You chuckled, sorting through the outfits, "Gigi, it's just dinner. I don't need to overdress."
She winked mischievously, "It's not overdressing if it makes you feel confident!"
Meanwhile, Jaehyun, who came over to check on you, couldn't help expressing his concern, "You know, I trust your judgment, but please be careful, okay? I don't want anything to happen to you."
You sighed, understanding his protective nature, "Jae, I promise, Yuta is a great guy. He wouldn't do anything to hurt me. Besides, are you forgetting the fact that he was the one who saved me that night?"
The reassuring words didn't fully alleviate his worry, but he nodded, accepting your choice, "How can I possibly forget when you keep mentioning it every five minutes? Just promise me to keep your phone on, and let me know if you need anything."
With your housemate's guidance and your best friend's cautionary reminders, you headed out for your date with Yuta, heart fluttering with excitement.
The date with him turned out to be more than perfect. Yuta's caring and attentive gestures made your heart melt throughout the night.
As you dined at a cosy restaurant, he pulled your chair out for you, ensuring you were comfortable. He listened intently as you spoke, asking questions and showing genuine interest in your thoughts and feelings. When you shivered slightly, he casually draped his jacket over your shoulders, ensuring you stayed warm.
After dinner, you took a leisurely stroll through the city park. Yuta held your hand as you walked, fingers interlaced. He pointed out constellations in the night sky and shared anecdotes about his life. His warmth and presence made the conversation flow effortlessly, and it felt as if you had known each other for much longer.
The date ended with him walking you to your doorstep. Before saying goodnight, he leaned in to press a gentle, respectful kiss on your cheek. It was a sweet, soft gesture that left you with a smile on your face as you entered your home.
His kindness, consideration, and charming nature truly made it an unforgettable evening, setting the tone for many more wonderful moments together.
The weeks and months passed in a whirlwind of dates and shared experiences. You got to know each other so well that it became clear you were both ready for a deeper commitment. Yuta had always been serious about the relationship, making it known that he was not interested in anything casual. He reassured you time and time again that he would never do anything to hurt you.
He's been waiting for the perfect moment to finally ask you to officially be his girlfriend.
The moment Yuta had been waiting for eventually arrived, and it was like a scene from a K-drama; unexpected and dramatic. You were walking side by side down the bustling streets of Hongdae one night after watching a movie together.
The city's neon lights created a surreal backdrop. The vibrant energy of Seoul's nightlife buzzed around you, and you were enjoying the company of the person you've grown to care deeply for.
Suddenly, amidst the excitement, someone's touch became too intimate. Panic washed over you as you felt a stranger's hand on your waist, and it moved lower, sending a jolt of alarm through your body. Your eyes widened as you tried to figure out what was happening in this crowded, chaotic scene.
Yuta was quick to pick up on your distress.
His gaze followed your wide-eyed stare, and his expression morphed from curiosity to fierce determination when he saw the inappropriate situation unfolding.
With a surge of protective rage, he moved swiftly, his hand reaching for yours as he pulled you away from the unwelcome intruder. In search of comfort, you pressed closer to him. His face was a mask of fury as he confronted the person who dared to harm you, "Excuse me, what the hell do you think you're doing?"
The stranger's face paled as he realised the gravity of his actions, "I... I didn't mean to..."
Yuta's voice was firm, cutting through the chaos of the street, "It doesn't matter what you meant. You crossed a line you shouldn't have, and that's not acceptable."
The crowd that gathered began to murmur, and the stranger, feeling the weight of the public gaze, backed away, muttering apologies and excuses.
Yuta, standing his ground, continued, "Remember this lesson, and never let it happen again. We all deserve to be treated with respect."
As the stranger retreated into the crowd, Yuta's focus returned to you, making sure you were okay. The fierce protector had shown his dedication to your safety in no uncertain terms.
In that tense and unexpected moment, his eyes met yours, and he seized the opportunity to ask the question that had been lingering between you for so long.
"This is it," He began, "I can't go on like this any longer. Will you let me be the one to always protect you from now on?" He paused, his gaze locked onto yours, a mix of hope and anticipation in his eyes, "Will you... be my girlfriend?"
The crowd around you erupted into cheers and applause, chanting for you to say yes to Yuta. Their enthusiasm was infectious, and you couldn't help smiling at their exuberance.
With a shy yet delighted grin, you nodded, "Of course, I'll be your girlfriend, silly. I've waited too long for you to ask."
His face lit up, his joy evident, and he wasted no time in pulling you into a warm and loving embrace. The crowd's cheers only grew louder as they congratulated the two of you, celebrating the official beginning of your journey together as a couple.
As he walked you home later that night, the atmosphere was charged with emotion. With a mix of excitement and anticipation, he leaned in to kiss you on the lips for the first time. The world around you seemed to fade away as your lips met, and for a moment, it was just the two of you in perfect harmony.
Before the kiss could deepen and become more passionate, the romantic moment was abruptly interrupted by your housemate, who swung your front door open and shouted, "Finally!"
Her sudden entrance startled both of you, and you laughed as you pulled away from the kiss.
Giselle's enthusiastic interruption added a dose of humour to the scene, and Yuta joined in the laughter, your hearts brimming with happiness and the promise of a wonderful future together.
Your son's face was the epitome of adorable scepticism as he tilted his head, looking at his father's dramatic storytelling, "Papa, are you sure that isn't a scene from a drama?" Yuta scoffed playfully, "Of course not! I'm telling you the truth!"
Yuki, with his round eyes, turned to you, seeking confirmation, "Is it really true that's how you and papa fell in love, mama?"
You softened and leaned down to kiss his head, reassuring him, "It's true, honey."
To your surprise, your son's expression turned more serious, "That would mean it's true you've almost gotten hurt twice if papa hadn't been there to save you."
You nodded, touched by your son's concern, and Yuki continued, "Don't worry, mama. I'm here now; I'll protect you too."
Your heart melted at his words, and Yuta cooed with pride, coming over to shower your son's face with playful kisses. Yuki shrieked in ticklish delight, and you stared at the two of them with a fond smile.
You may have nearly gotten hurt in order to meet Yuta, but you wouldn't change your fate for anything in the world. You were incredibly happy with your little family, and your heart was full of love and gratitude for the way things have turned out.
In the midst of this warm family moment, Yuki's curious nature was in full swing. With an innocent yet cheeky smile, he suddenly asked, "So, how did you two have me then?"
Your face turned a shade of red that rivalled a tomato, and you cleared your throat nervously. Beside you, Yuta stammered, his words coming out in a rush, "Whoa, whoa, that's enough questions for today, young man!"
Yuki's eyes sparkled with amusement as he sensed he hit a nerve. Despite the initial flustered reactions, you burst out laughing, unable to contain your mirth.
It seemed like the story of your love, your family, and your son's inquisitiveness would continue to be a delightful adventure.
I've only been writing for ATEEZ so far since they're my current ult, but NCT and I go way back HAHA. I've been the biggest simp for Yuta, y'all don't wanna know about it, I swear.
Anyway, this is me trying out writing for other groups. I have another story featuring I.N from Stray Kids coming up soon as well. My fellow STAYs can look forward to that one.
As always, I'd love to hear all your thoughts, reviews, and feedback, so feel free to leave as many replies as you want! Thank you for reading and hope you enjoyed! <3
another rant bc it’s still 5am and i still hate reddit. why did i stay up all night reading reddit posts? idk, they’re kinda interesting ngl. ok thank u i’ll sleep now
#nabitxt#this one is about the ppl saying nct dream is sm’s weakest group / nct’s most lacklustre group 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫 an insanely INCORRECT opinion#vocals? yeah nct dream are the weakest in sm no denying that ;; but they have great individuality and musicality which makes them very#valuable vocalists imo. their technique is subpar for sm but they all work and mesh tgt rly well which benefits them imo#rap? my dude they have mark - like sm’s best rapper ever. after mark there’s jeno who’s like nct’s 4th best rapper and we all know ncts top5#rappers are sm’s top5 rappers LMFAO so bam markno alone outraps every non-nct sm group which automatically drags them out of the ‘weak’#category. and lets not forget jaemin; he’s a good idol rapper and is def better than most of sm’s lead rappers too. honestly hes probs on#par with most of sm’s main rappers that aren’t from nct 😵‍💫😵‍💫 again ; weak where? rap? in sm? no. so incredibly wrong!#dance? JISUNG. GOD JISUNG. jisung and mark may not be sm’s strongest main dancers but they are certainly some of the strongest in nct. top5#for me! and lets take into consideration their entire dance line. imo dream minus jaemle are in nct’s top10 best dancers - maybe i’m#biased but then again many ppl also rank jeno haechan very high in terms of dance within nct#and honestly renjun is insanely good ppl just don’t know bc he’s hella underrated and gets like no centre time despite being a lead#jaemle also aren’t the worst dancers in nct either and both are actually very strong dancers ; jaemin especially is good and chenle is#amazing for holding his ground against baby shinki + renjun (he’s so prodigy love chenle)#nct dream arguably has one of the best dance line ups in sm#just bc their main dancers aren’t on par w other sm main dancers doesn’t mean their dance line isn’t on par with other sm dance lines#the dance line is not just one main person LOL#idk how else to explain it but nct dream is very much not sm’s weakest group nor nct’s most lacklustre group (no unit lacks either)#just bc dream is weaker in vocals doesn’t mean they’re weaker in every aspect LOL kpop is not just vocals just bc it’s sm doesn’t mean a#group’s talent is based solely on vocals. rap and dance are a huge part of it too#n e way sorry i’m so dream biased i can’t help myself
hi!! i’ve been thinking about how kun is the perfect husband and i love your fics so if you’re comfortable with it, can you write something soft with husband kun? 🥺
All for Love
Tumblr media
Qian Kun x Male Reader
The restaurant is empty. Except for the two of you and the three servers you managed to spot every now and then. It’s a cozy fit—the circle table in between the two of you seemed only large enough to fit two medium plates and just maybe the tallest glasses the restaurant had. Regardless—you enjoyed how intimate the setting was. The red rose that sat in the glass vase in the middle of the table illuminated by the bulb right over the table. The quietest violin playing overhead. And Kun’s foot kicking yours subconsciously under the table—as if it was normal.
And it was. Playing footsies under the table was just one of the signs that Kun was comfortable with you. It reminded you of the first time he did it. The two of you were on your fifth date—a little awkward still but growing fond of each other nonetheless.
It has been so long since then. You’ve lost count on how many dates you’ve had even after the two of you had gotten married.
“What are you thinking about?” Kun’s soft voice draws you away from your memories. You reach your hand towards his, interlacing your fingers with his long ones on top of the smooth table. He gives you a smile, one that reaches his eyes and puffs out the apples of his cheeks.
“Our fifth date.” You play with the ring on his finger. It’s simple—smooth all around with nothing that stands out just like the one on your left hand. Only the two of you knew about the engraving on the inside of the ring, however. It was like your own little secret. “It was when you started being affection with me you know?” Kun nods slowly as if he were trying to remember how the two of you used to interact just a few years ago. “I can’t believe we’re married… it feels like a dream.”
“Or a nightmare.” You kick his ankle—not too hard—but hard enough to where he pouts and whines dramatically. “I’m kidding. You know I wanted to marry you after our first date.” You let your eyebrows shoot up to your hair, squeezing his hand still as if it were a sensory toy. “I can’t even bring myself to believe that, I don’t know why I said it.”
The two of you share a laugh, the mood settling into a comfortable silence again as the food was finally placed in front of you. Wordlessly the two of you take food from each other’s plates at the same time, giggling together with how in sync you were. Kun unfolds the napkin in front of you, reaching over to place it around the collar of your (‪f/c‬) buttoned up shirt. You held your breath as his fingers brushed your neck, exhaling slowly whenever he brought his fingers to straighten out the bottom of the fabric.
“So chivalrous.” And it was true. Kun was always quick on his feet to open any door you encountered. Any chair you were going to be sitting on, he made sure he was there to pull it out just enough. This behavior only increased after the two of you got married.
Even when he needed to be at work earlier than his usual time he would leave out your favorite mug next to a full pot of coffee still warm on the counter. Always made sure your home slippers were ready by the foot of the bed whenever you decided to get up for the day. You admired this of him deeply—that he knew you well enough to do things you’d usually forget about.
The dinner was spent mostly in silence. Conversation sparking as soon as the two of you finished stacking nearly empty plates on top of each other and scooting them to the side.
“(Y/n).” You place your (e/c) eyes on him, his face unreadable. “Before they bring dessert out, I want to say that these past three years we’ve spent as husbands have been my favorite years so far. Nothing comes close to having you as a partner. You are so thoughtful and careful in everything you do that sometimes you don’t even see it.” Kun inhales slowly, now being the one that reaches out to hold your hand—which you gladly comply with. “You make life worth living, (Y/n). You have no idea how much your little updates throughout the day brighten me up at work whenever I’m stressed about something silly. Everything seems so minuscule whenever you’re there encouraging me.”
“I know that being married didn’t change much about our relationship besides the fact that we have these cool rings and we’re official on government paperwork—but it’s just the last step. We’re not done growing but we’re done with looking for labels for us. Husbands just makes sense, don’t you think?” He doesn’t give you an opportunity to reply, only allows you to nod as he continues. “Happy anniversary, my love. I hope that you still like me.”
And for some reason, that does it for you. You blink a few tears down your cheek, laughing into your hand.
“I love you so much, you idiot.” You get up to kneel in front of him, reminiscent of when the proposal happened—funnily enough at the same restaurant. He turns sideways in his chair, holding back his own tears for now. “I will always love you, Kun. And I hate you for not telling me that we were practically renewing our vows today because I could’ve come up with some really awesome stuff that I couldn’t think of at our wedding day.” You take both of his hands in yours, kissing one at a time. “Should we renew our vows for the next one.”
Kun looks down at you curiously, wiping his eyes with the back of his hand.
“You’re already thinking of next year? Do you think I’ll be able to put up with you for that much longer.” Another fit of laughter erupts as you struggled to get up and find your balance. Kun pulls you to sit on his lap as he tucks a loose strand of (h/c) hair behind your ear. “Happy anniversary, again.”
Three times. Your boyfriend had basically taken you by the hand, leading you to the very brink, the precipice, of an orgasm just to rip it away from you right before you could have it. Each time a whine would tear through your throat and escape through your lips before he would hush you with a kiss, telling you that would be the last one. But it wasn’t, it never was. He was in one of those moods again.
Haechan would often get into these sadistic moods where he would thrive off of edging you, denying your release over and over and over again until he finally felt some sympathy for you. He luxuriated in the way your brows scrunched together and your mouth parted to let out a noise of unfathomable pleasure before it turned into squeaks of disappointment and frustration. A smile would spread across his rosy lips when your knuckles would tighten then unfurl after being played for the nth time. It was all a game to him, and he only scored points when you looked disheveled, disheartened, and dissatisfied.
“Hae- Haechan, please,” your voice came out in cracked breaths, desperation dripping off of your words.
“Yes, baby?” he was so patronizing in the way he addressed you, like he was so innocent.
“I need to cum,” you whimpered like a wounded animal, begging for mercy, “Please.”
“You need to?” he repeated, “Or you want to?”
“I-,” you had to be careful, because however you answered next would determine your fate in the next few minutes, “I need to.”
“That so?” he asked after a moment of consideration.
You nodded, hissing when his fingertips touched the bruises he left from gripping your thigh while eating you out just ten minutes prior. The corners of his lips twitched, wanting to form a wicked smile. He continued to trail his fingers along your skin, over your hips and waist, past your navel, creating goosebumps in their wake. Up the center of your chest and the column of your throat, finally the digits came to a halt at your chin. They tilted your face towards his own as he now hovered close to you on your shared bed. His tongue darted out to wet his lips, the taste of your pussy still present on them from his earlier venture.
“Then I shouldn’t make my love wait any longer, huh?”
A venomous undertone was latent in the way he spoke. Your eyes began to tear up as you realized this will either be the finale of your torment or just another round of his cruel little game. You weren’t sure how much more of this you could take, but you wanted to cum so bad you couldn’t think straight anymore.
You breathed deeply in and out of your nose, gritting your teeth behind tight lips as Haechan’s fingers went back between your thighs, drawing meaningless lines and curves with the lightest touch possible. The skin between your thighs was sticky from the amount of arousal that had built up over the past thirty minutes. Thirty minutes of amusing foreplay turned into agony.
The first time, he had you pressed against the wall, your clothes still on. His knee was pressed against your cunt, expertly bucking up between your thighs until you were crying out his name and gripping onto his shirt for dear life. Then he was pulling away, tossing you onto the bed unceremoniously.
The second time, he was eating you out, relentlessly lapping at your clit like a piece of candy. And he didn’t stop until you were squeezing your legs around his head, moans spilling from your pretty lips. The same lips that whined out when he came up with a wet smirk on his own lips, mischief prominent in the way he moved up to kiss you.
The third time, he had been making out with you fervently, the two of you a mess of tangled limbs and mashed lips and teeth. He couldn’t hold back his grunts as he slotted his hips between yours and humped you. Both of you were still in your clothes, but only undergarments. You could practically feel his erection against your pelvis, the tip moistening his boxers as it bumped against your folds with every thrust of his hips. You were so close that third time, the closest you had gotten, only for him to pull away with a laugh when he noticed how pathetic you looked.
But now was the fourth time, and it seemed he was going to finger you. Usually your boyfriend liked to cum inside of you, so your chances of cumming soon were looking slim to none. Your chest deflated when you came to the realization, and Haechan noticed the shift in your expressions. A crack formed in his sadistic, playful demeanor.
“Want you to cum on my fingers. You can do that, can’t you, baby?” he kissed your cheek lovingly as his fingers finally slipped between the cushions of your thighs. The sides of his hands accumulated the arousal from your skin while his fingertips collected it from the depths of your slit. A chill went down your spine as you finally got him to touch you, like, actually touch you. Not with his knee or his tongue, “_________?”
“Yes,” you panted, already having forgotten the question. All you could think about was the pads of his middle and ring fingers teasing the slick skin around your clit. Your hips were bucking into his, yearning for more of him. He found it amusing, a cocky smile showing as he finally moved his fingers to your hole, dipping them in. His eyes watched your face contort with pleasure as he slowly sunk his fingers deeper, knuckle by knuckle, until he couldn’t go any more.
He slowly pulled his fingers out before thrusting them back in, repeating those fluid movements again and again. He created a pace that had your head digging into the pillows and your back arching. Your hands were clutching at his arm and the bed sheets, your fingernails denting his skin and your fingers twisting the sheets in their grip.
You were painfully aware of the wet sounds coming from between your legs. The squelching caused your ears and cheeks to burn with embarrassment, but it only turned Haechan on more than he already was. He loved knowing that he could make you this wet. That with a little foreplay and teasing, he could turn you into the biggest mess, and all without you cumming. If his pride could be measured it would’ve broken a scale by now.
“Cum on my fingers,” he said, gaze intense as he watched you get closer and closer to release. He knew your tells so well by now. The way you clenched around him was a dead giveaway, but your thighs also twitched and shifted, like you wanted to run but had nowhere to go. Your chest moved sporadically with your uneven, rugged breaths. Your moans became unbridled and carnal.
“Can I?” you whimpered, praying this wasn’t just some cruel joke he was making before he ripped the rug out from under your feet again.
“Yeah, baby, come on. Make a mess on my fingers, I want you to.”
Before he could even finish talking, you were already letting out a moan-like sigh, your hips pressing up against his soaked fingers. As soon as you finished, they fell back against the bed, and you were now aware of just how wet the sheets had gotten. But you didn’t care in that moment, and you wouldn’t for a while longer. You only cared about the buzzing sensation riding throughout your lower half, like electricity running through an electric fence. It crackled in your abdomen, your thighs, your toes, your clit. You forgot how good it felt to actually cum. Maybe now you were starting to understand why Haechan got off on doing this to you.
