one aspect of queerness being an intrinsic part of deltarune that i love is the way suselle acts on some level as a metacommentary... you have this love story, and half of it is noelle, a rule follower, seemingly the golden girl but broken on the inside, essentially The Girl of deltarune. there are other girls, obviously. but as many have said before, noelle is clearly meant to embody many age-old female character archetypes. she's the lost girl with the troubled inner life. she's the golden girl, the town's sweetheart, the golden-haired, straight-as mayor's daughter. she's the damsel in distress, called out as such by multiple characters. she's the cheerful, ordinary girl next door. noelle is clearly part of the plan of deltarune's living narrative- the quintessential Girl for all the Girl roles.

and then you have susie, who's the polar opposite of that. she's loud, crude, messy, sarcastic, not afraid of a good old-fashioned fight. she manspreads in teacup rides, she swallows cakes whole and guzzles waterfalls of coffee. she calls herself a king. she is obviously and unapologetically BUTCH- and this clearly plays into her role as the one who defies the narrative. you can't tell susie where to go or what to do. you can't make decisions for her. she doesn't wait around hoping to be saved- she smashes through the prison walls herself. she's a knight in her own way! she's a girl, but she won't let ANYONE, including the narrative, tell her what that means for her. she defines it herself.

susie and noelle are opposites, not just appearance-wise or demeanor-wise, but in relation to their roles in the story. noelle is the narrative's perfect puppet, while susie breaks her strings and wrests control for herself. the story clearly wants noelle and susie to be nothing but a knight and her damsel (let's be honest, them getting together is obviously a part of whatever Big Plan is going on), a perfect fairytale king and queen.

but of course, there are no queer people in classic fairytales. the very fact that susie is not a man, but a loudly and proudly queer girl, is symbolic of the flaw in the grand plan- she can't fit into traditional narrative structures, and she sure as hell doesn't want to. instead of simply being the knight in shining armor who rescues noelle from danger and then hides her away in a different prison of riches and royalty for the rest of her days, susie is going to end up being the one who teaches noelle how to break free from the roles she's been forced into- how to twist those fairytales into her own epics.

and i just think that's neat!!

Thank you for your patience! I have finished making the match-ups for Round 1 which will be under the cut. A little information first.

Round 1 will be posted between Friday, January 19th and Thursday, January 25th. It will be split between 4 sets, each set being posted on a different day. There will be a total of 128 participants (32 participants in each individual set) divided in 64 polls (16 polls in each individual set). By the end of Round 1, 64 participants will make it to Round 2 while the rest will be sent to the Shadow Realm where their souls will be tormented for eternity. All polls will be queued between 12 PM EST and 1 PM EST of the day it has been assigned. Each poll will last a week.

Top 5 Luck and Gauche potential friendships?

say what?! you're my favorite person anon!

let's see... in general, the black bulls have MANY amazing friendships that didn't get enough exploration or weren't explored at all, potential friendships, underrated friendships, friendships that could've offered the characters a lot of depth and growth, and so on, may be personal because I love gauche and luck but I think their characterizations are so unexplored compared to most BBs, so thank you for giving me the chance to ramble a little about their potential.

starting with honorable mentions:

Luck with Zora (both lost their parents and lived their life hanged by their shadows while acting overly joyful despite their suffering), with Yami, and we can never get enough of his brother-sister dynamic with Vanessa!

Gauche with Noelle (both tsunderes with big/little sibling issues), with Magna, and with the other girls besides grey be it him vibing with nero or bickering with vanessa.

Luck & Charmy - listen this is my comfort friendship and you can pry it from my dead cold hands!! I have no complex reason I just think they're besties ever since they went to heart kingdom and later elsiya together, I respect tabata as a person but my man dropped the ball in this one they could be a hilarious duo or a beastlike duo they could be the squad's lucky charms (duoble puns intended) and so more, I love their short-termed trio with leopold but still!

Gauche & Zora - I did not post over thirty quotes of them bickering like two asshole tsunsderes who don't know the first thing about friendship—nah not at all, I also didn't think too much of how similar their backstories and characters development are—I MEAN, they definitly didn't word-by-word repeat the exact same line... what am doing putting them in this list they got zero potential in friendship, silly me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Luck & Gauche - I think this is the best and most wasted friendship for each of them because we already have magna & zora as a duo to parallel them and it'd have been interesting to see them working side by side with their shared experience of being possessed by elves and similar character stories... most fans think of gauche's dynamic with grey as his next natural step in development, but I've always felt that him and luck would've made a lot more sense.

Noelle -- Snowflake

Here is an artwork of Noelle with a snowflake ❄️

Played a little bit of Deltarune Chapter 2 on the PS4, and watched The Polar Express this afternoon, and finished this artwork three days ago :). Oh! That Christmas parade last night was absolutely wonderful! (except it was long lol), and we had ice cream before even watching it at an ice cream place we went to last time for the fireworks back in 2021. And the flavor I got was Cookie Monster lol. It's like a vanilla ice cream with cookie dough and Oreo (I believe they had in there), and the ice cream was blue by the food dye, making it look like Cookie Monster from Sesame Street. I chosed that flavor (I know I am too old, but however, that flavor looked interesting by it's color and wondered it would still tastes like Vanilla lol), and it is ABSOLUTELY good! 😋 (until my mouth got blue lol). Anyways, I am actually really gotten the hang of drawing Noelle perfectly :)
