a new family in brookton... time to investigate
Tumblr media
This is Nick Dobbs and his wife, Tracy. He works in the medical career as a resident. Their house isn't fully decorated yet, but they take some time to play a few rounds of chess anyway. They aren't as piss-poor as the other families, but they're not quite rich by any means.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They're both pretty serious people, but Tracy actually cares about doing things like making friends. As you can probably tell, they have children.
Tumblr media
Celeste is their eldest daughter. She's going through her emo phase and spends every morning frying her hair to a crisp. Starla is the second daughter. She hasn't tried that yet.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The girls aren't very similar to each other. Celeste is a very curious and energetic shy girl while Starla is a lot more friendly like their mother. She doesn't really care much for popularity despite that.
Tumblr media
They go back and forth on whether they get along, but that's how sisters go. Celeste thinks that any job that involves working in an office sounds like a bore. Starla argues that office jobs have their own interesting culture with many chances to get ahead.
Tumblr media
And this is Derek. He's about halfway through childhood.
Tumblr media
He's a bit of a grumpy kid, but he takes closely after their father otherwise.
Tumblr media
The very first thing that happens is the entire neighborhood showing up to shove their noses into their business. Tracy has to quit the chess game early to meet them.
Tumblr media
Michael Tyler beelines for their violin, which he absolutely sucks shit at playing. Camila argues with a townie behind him. Tracy immediately wants to start befriending these people.
Tumblr media
The kids come home from school and get to meeting the neighbors as well. Michael tells Derek about how he can fix basically any coffee machine, which gets him some real perks at work. Tracy pulls the lame "how was school?" conversation out on Starla. Celeste ignores them all in favor of painting.
Tumblr media
Derek is a fan of chess. He plays it by himself after Michael confesses that he doesn't actually know how chess works and chooses to sit at their computer instead.
Tumblr media
Tracy corners him to tell him jokes about jewelry. He reacts in a similar way to a stinkbug and then goes home. Nick has to go to work in the evenings, which cuts into the family time he generally wants.

Since taking over for the injured Kirk Cousins, Vikings QB Josh Dobbs has won 3 games and lost 2. But he had a disastrous showing against the Bears in Week 12, throwing 4 interceptions and a mistake-riddled performance in their 3-0 win over the Raiders in Week 14. Apparently the Vikes have seen enough for now and will switch to 6-year veteran Nick Mullens.

Trump was the broker in that second transaction. Knowing Trump, he probably pilfered some of the payment.
Herschel Walker needed no middleman. He is a hypocrite who will criminalize abortion in the US for everybody – except his girlfriends.

does anyone have any good like “lesser known” detective stories they can recommend to me? Like yeah ok Sherlock Holmes obviously I know [taps blog like it’s a sign to be read] and I know poirot (have read one story and need to read more) and I know OF like nick and nora and rex stout but haven’t read them (…yet?) but I’m talking like smaller.
I burned through the gower street detectives and LOVED them, im currently winding my way through the barker & llewelyn series but since it’s over 10 and I’m on 2 it’ll be a while. exact ditto for maisie dobbs. and further ditto (with regards to the second novel) (but with fewer volumes to work through) for the brighton mysteries.
I personally like detectives where they have a sidekick of some sort, whether it’s their wife or their friend or Scotland Yard. I also really love set in the past like 19th century but even just like the 30s and such is fun. I don’t really love this whole craze of taking a real person and then have them solve mysteries as a series I find it a bit. Strange.
any thoughts??

Samia, 41, first appeared as hair stylist turned councillor Maria all the way back on 19th May 2000, and was introduced as a romantic interest for Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall). Then known as Maria Sutherland, it wasn’t long before she established herself on the cobbles and we were introduced to her wider family – including brother Kirk (Andy Whyment). After discovering her son Liam Jr. (Charlie Wrenshall) was contemplating suicide, Maria installed a secret camera in their apartment to keep an eye on him, but ended up catching Gary in an intimate moment with his ex Sarah Barlow (Tina O’Brien). In a recent Instagram post, Samia shared a video of her first ever scene, and captioned it: ’24 years ago today was my first appearance as Maria @coronationstreet.. I was so nervous to be with the wonderful Bill Tarmey (and I think it shows ) ‘We filmed it on Easter Sunday and I remember being thrilled that I got a free Easter egg to take home on day 1! Brittany Watts had been sick for days when a police officer entered her Warren, Ohio, hospital room and asked about her miscarriage. The detective, Nick Carney, interviewed her for over an hour while a nurse rubbed Watts’s shoulders and assured her all would be well, the Washington Post reported. “Two weeks later, Carney arrested Watts on charges of felony abuse of a corpse for how she handled the remains from her pregnancy,” the Post reported. Watts would eventually learn that the nurse who comforted her had turned her in to the police.
Prosecutors have presented her case to a grand jury, which will decide whether to indict her for abuse of a corpse. Watts, who is Black, “faces up to a year in prison along with a fine of up to $2,500,” her attorney told the Post. Her case highlights the precarity of the post-Dobbs landscape, which leaves women vulnerable to this form of prosecution. A pernicious ideology is on display. Those who assail Watts — the nurse who turned her in, the prosecutor who pursued the case — presume the fetus is a person. Watts’s own personhood is under attack.
Don't talk to the cops!

[ad_1] The quarterback carousel continues to spin for the Vikings.Jaren Hall got the start at quarterback against the Packers on Sunday night, but he didn't make it to the second half. Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell went back to Nick Mullens with the Vikings down 23-3. Mullens threw a touchdown, but the Vikings lost 33-10 to leave them with faint playoff hopes heading into the final week of the regular season.O'Connell said after the game that he needs "to be better for our group" and said the Vikings will consider Josh Dobbs along with Sunday's quarterbacks as they make a plan to face the Lions.“The decision we'll make will be based upon that position putting our group in a place to try to move the football and have success," O'Connell said at his postgame press conference. "We did not do that tonight. We'll look at it, all options are on the table.”The Vikings had lost four of five heading into the Packers game and all of those games were one-score losses. Once the offseason comes, there will likely be fresh laments about what the team could have done with a healthy Kirk Cousins because the team's shortcomings under center have been the biggest reason why they've fallen by the wayside this season. Packers CB Jaire Alexander suspended for Vikings matchup after coin toss incident
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Courtesy: cbsnews In preparation for the pivotal Sunday night clash against Justin Jefferson and the Minnesota Vikings, the Green Bay Packers have taken the unconventional step of suspending their standout cornerback, Jaire Alexander. This decision traces back to Alexander assuming the role of captain during the Packers' hard-fought 33-30 victory on Christmas Eve in Carolina, an action that did not escape the notice of head coach Matt LaFleur and general manager Brian Gutekunst. "It's never a singular issue," remarked Coach LaFleur, reflecting on the decision-making process. "There are numerous lessons to be gleaned from all parties involved, and it is our hope that these experiences contribute to enhanced communication moving forward." In a statement, the team announced Alexander's one-game suspension for "conduct detrimental to the team," a verdict not arrived at lightly, according to Gutekunst. "While disappointed, we engaged in a meaningful conversation with Jaire this morning, anticipating his growth from this episode as we progress collectively. We eagerly anticipate his return next week, recognizing his enduring value to the team." Alexander, who rejoined the Packers after a six-game absence due to a shoulder injury, was not designated as one of the weekly captains by Coach LaFleur. However, being in his hometown of Charlotte, he deemed it fitting to anoint himself as one. In an inadvertent twist, Alexander's self-appointed captaincy nearly jeopardized the Packers' possession. When they won the toss, Alexander expressed the defense's desire to take the field first, unintentionally deviating from the conventional choice to defer to the second half. Fortunately, Coach LaFleur had communicated his preferences to the officiating crew beforehand, averting a potential misstep. The suspension sidelines Alexander for the impending Sunday night clash against Minnesota, where both teams, with identical 7-8 records, vie for a crucial victory to remain in the NFC playoff contention. Justin Jefferson, a central figure in Minnesota's offensive strategy, is likely to pose a formidable challenge, regardless of the Vikings' starting quarterback—Jaren Hall, Nick Mullens, or Joshua Dobbs. Jefferson boasts an NFL record for receiving yards in his first four seasons, averaging 102.9 yards per game this season, second only to Tyreek Hill. Jefferson's absence in the earlier season match against the Packers due to injury did not hinder his impact, as evidenced by his stellar performance against the Detroit Lions with Mullens at quarterback, amassing 141 yards and a touchdown. Having proven his mettle in past encounters with the Packers, Jefferson remains a potent force, recalling his impressive receptions and touchdowns in victories over Green Bay in 2021 and 2022. As for Alexander's replacement, the Packers adopt a "next man up" mentality, emphasizing competitiveness and the deployment of players deemed best suited to secure victory, regardless of position. The clash promises heightened intrigue as both teams vie to extend their playoff hopes, with the Packers navigating Alexander's absence and the Vikings potentially undergoing a quarterback change. The outcome of this showdown will undoubtedly shape the course of their postseason aspirations. Read the full article

at the dobbs household. Nick needs to learn a bunch of random junk before they'll let him have a promotion, and he's pretty tired of working night shift, so he hits the books.

Meanwhile, Tracy heads out to the deck to look out through the telescope.
Tumblr media
No clue what she thinks she's seeing, because it''s pine woods for miles around.
Tumblr media
The bills arrive and pull her from her delusions of joshua trees.
Tumblr media
She greets this tacky townie that walks by while she checks the mail and forces her inside to watch her play the violin poorly.
Tumblr media
The teens come home. Celeste puts her homework down so she can ignore it. Starla does hers right away.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
they have some sibling bonding :) celeste thinks cities are probably dumb and stupid. it isn't her real opinion even she just wants to piss her sister off. it works wonders.
Tumblr media
Derek comes home and asks his father to help with his homework. He manages to squeeze that in before work. They were about to play some chess together but it was too late.
Tumblr media
Tracy does her evening phone calls. She tells Michael about a pet goldfish she had as a kid. She killed it by trying to replace the water in its tank with orange juice under the belief that it would become even more orange that way. Michael wasn't thrilled by that story, and then ended the call because his girlfriend was offering him a wonderful nap on one of her weird devices.
Tumblr media
Starla enjoys the stars once the sun sets. She's trying to find out what saturn is really hiding behind all those rings. She's pretty sure it's aliens, but she's skeptical about their existence and the locals that ramble on about them usually seem a bit out of their minds.

In what is probably the last special election to fill a vacancy in the 117th Congress, Democrats flipped a US House seat in Alaska. Yes, IN ALASKA. No Democrat has won the lone House seat from Alaska in half a century.
Democrat Mary Peltola will represent Alaska's lone U.S. House seat, after winning a special election that was determined by a ranked-choice voting tabulation on Wednesday. She will become the the first Alaska Native in Congress.
In the final round of the count, Peltola, a former state lawmaker, edged Sarah Palin, a former Alaska governor and the 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee, by 3 percentage points, 51.5% to 48.5%.
This continues the trend of House elections since the GOP US Supreme Court overturned the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision which protected abortion rights nationally. Democrats overperformed in all six elections from +6 to +18 percent.
FiveThirtyEight reports:
Impressively, Peltola managed to prevail despite Alaska being a fairly red state. According to FiveThirtyEight’s partisan lean metric,1 Alaska is 15 percentage points redder than the nation as a whole. That means going by the results in the final round, Peltola’s 3-point victory2 was an 18-point overperformance for Democrats. By contrast, last week, Democrat Pat Ryan won New York’s 19th District, an R+4 seat, by 2 points — just a 6-point overperformance.
Alaska uses a ranked choice system of voting. So it remains to be seen if Ms. Peltola can repeat her performance in November for the full two year term. However Democrats are now in more favorable territory than they were in the spring.
A significant percentage of voters want to punish Republicans for their extremist anti-abortion stance which caused the Supreme Court to be packed with hacks who are eager to criminalize abortion. Voters understand that Democrats have promised legislation to make abortion legal in all 50 states if they fully control the 118th Congress after the midterms.
These recent overperformances in elections by Democrats are driven by higher than anticipated voter turnout. Make sure you’re registered. Don’t be shy about letting others know that they need to vote in this election and to make voting a must in every election.

The Minnesota Vikings are sticking with Nick Mullens. The Vikings announced on Tuesday that Mullens will start on Saturday in their game against the Cincinnati Bengals. Mullens will start in place of Joshua Dobbs, who last week.Mullens entered Sunday’s game at Allegiant Stadium with just more than nine minutes left in the fourth quarter. After going three-and-out initially, Mullens led the Vikings on a 56-yard, 12-play drive that set up a 36-yard field goal from kicker Greg Joseph — which finally broke the 0-0 tie and eventually gave the Vikings the narrow win.Mullens finished his day going 9-of-13 for 83 yards. Perhaps most notably, he helped the Vikings avoid being the first game to go into overtime in a scoreless tie since 1974.The Vikings traded for Dobbs right before the deadline earlier this season shortly after starter Kirk Cousins went down with an Achilles injury. Though Dobbs won his first two starts, which made for a remarkable story, he’s struggled since. He lost back-to-back games before Sunday’s contest against the Raiders, where he went 10-of-23 for just 63 yards through three quarters. He was sacked five times and lost more than 60 yards, too.Nick Mullens will make the start for the Vikings on Saturday against the Cincinnati Bengals. (Ian Maule/Getty Images)So now head coach Kevin O’Connell will turn to Mullens on Saturday. Mullens, 28, is in his second season with the Vikings. He appeared in four games last season, but threw for just 224 yards with a touchdown and an interception. The former Southern Miss star signed with the San Francisco 49ers in 2018 after going undrafted, and spent three seasons there and one with the Cleveland Browns before landing in Minneapolis. The Vikings are sitting at 7-6, too, and are still in the mix in the NFC Playoff race. A win over the Bengals, even with their issues at quarterback, would go a long way in helping the team make the postseason for a second straight year.
