🐉RATING:🔥🔥🔥🔥/5 ❓Do you enjoy odd or quirky books? I love a quirky little book. If you are like me - and you enjoy stories that make you ask, “What did I just read?!” - then pick up a copy of Kelly Barnhill’s The Crane Husband. Writing a review for this book is a challenge. I know I liked it. I’m not sure I understood it. A widowed mother of two brings home a new lover - a crane she calls Father. Who is this creature with leering eyes? Why is the mother so devoted to him that she neglects herself and her children? What are they doing inside the locked art studio? The story reads like a nightmarish fable of generational trauma. Included are themes of motherhood, abandonment, transformation, and the magic of art. A fable, by definition, ends with a lesson. But if The Crane Husband has a lesson, I haven’t figured it out yet. I’m continuing to ponder how all the themes and imagery weave together. Are they parts of a whole? Or do they just swirl around each other in a dance? And that’s enough rambling. If anyone wants to join me in this metaphorical rabbit hole, let’s chat. Thank you to @tordotcompub and @netgalley for providing this ARC. #thecranehusband #kellybarnhill #quirkybooks #novella #whatdidijustread #craneisamanisacrane #featherseverywhere #bookreview #bookrecommendations #netgalleyreads #netgalleyreview #bookstagram https://www.instagram.com/p/Cpfs2VUhkve/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

❓What was the last series you started? Did you enjoy it?   Dead Country by Max Gladstone follows a craftswoman Tara who returns to her home village to bury her father. The village and Tara have a really complicated past and both feel endangered by the other. We meet raiders and old friends, ghosts of the past and new opportunities, reasons to give up, and things to die for.   The premise sounds really intriguing and promising. And I think that the story was crafted rather well. But sadly it didn't work for me.   One thing that didn't work for me is a vast and overwhelming world. Maybe it's my fault. I knew that it was a new series in an already existing world. So maybe if I read the previous series, things would work out better for me.    The other thing maybe has the same reason – I wasn't attached to the characters too much and that is why I didn't care. Maybe it is because I didn't know Tara before this book(she was a character in the previous series too). Or maybe it's due to the book's length – it's relatively short and it's hard to build new relationships in such a short time. I can't be sure.   Nonetheless, the world and the magic system in Dead Country seemed fascinating to me – it's rather hard, but there was something poetic about it as well.   The prose is polished and exquisite(it's rather similar to the one I encountered in another Gladstone's book – This Is How You Lose The Time War). I think it will not work for everyone, but there will be definitely many readers who will appreciate it.   All in all, it seems like an interesting start for a new series and I can recommend it to readers who love hard but abstract magic systems and flowery writing style. (Also, maybe if you're intrigued, your best starting place is the first book in raft Sequence - Three Parts Dead)   I'm grateful to @netgalley and @tordotcompub for providing me with this advanced reading copy in exchange for my honest review. #maxgladstone #deadcounty #craftwars #netgalleyreview #tordotcompublishing https://www.instagram.com/p/CqQK3y1IfUP/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

#NetGalleyReview #RomanticComedy The book is about Sally and her connection to the famous Noah Brewster. Sally’s crush Danny is already taken and he's engaged. Also, there are scenes that remind me of comedy shows and movies like SNL for example. The book is good and the writing of Curtis Sittenfeld is good, putting a twist on the characters writing drawings, actors and film crew. Thanks to the publishers of Random House and @netgalley for giving me the opportunity to read the book for a review. https://www.instagram.com/p/CocpDuQuqrZ/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Happy Thursday! For #thrillerthursday I have a wonderful time travel crime thriller by Kelley Armstrong called A Rip Through Time. It’s the first book in the series featuring a modern day detective who gets thrown back to Victorian Scotland. It’s a five star read for me and I highly recommend. If you want to see my review, you can head over to my blog site - link in bio. Today my new home phone cellphone arrived and I’ve been struggling to get it to activate. I did away with a landline years ago because it just didn’t make sense to have anymore. But… I did want a number to give to websites and such that are the source of all those lovely spam calls I don’t want… so, a home phone cellphone. 📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚 Do you have a separate line you consider a “home phone”? Is it a landline or another cellphone. 📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚 . . . . #allthebooksjune22 #aripintime #kelleyarmstrong #stmartinspress #thrillerbooks #thriller #thrillerreads #thrillerbooks #thrillerbook #thrillerbooksaddict #crimethriller #timetravel #victorianera #netgalley #netgalleyreads #netgalleyreview #netgalleyarc #bookandflowers #fivestarread #bookreview #bookreaderscommunity #thrillerreader #bookdragon #bookdragons #mysterythriller #tessatalksbooks #bookblogger #bookbloggersofinstagram #bookbloggerlife #bookbloggersofig (at Lake Davidson) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cel_DmdrIXx/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

I would like to start off my review by stating that I received an E-Arc through Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.
Artifacts of an Ex by Jennifer Chen is a cute, quirky romance based in L.A. The main female lead, Chloe, has been uprooted from New York City and finds herself in a completely new community full of vibrant characters, eye opening art, and amazing food ( yum! ).
I went into this book blind, the cover completely drew me in and I knew that I didn’t need to know anything else. The opening of the book is just as charming as the cover suggests, giving you a main character that’s easy to relate to and has a typically positive outlook on her situation. Until her ex breaks up with her THROUGH THE MAIL!!!!
Now the character is relatable in a completely different way, showing a bit more of their insecurity and how negative their thoughts can be even when they’re doing amazing things with the friends that they’re making along the way.
At first, when Daniel was introduced, I thought he was going to be one of those totally cringe film bros, but I was pleasantly surprised by their charismatic dialogue and caring attitude towards their friends. I related to Daniel a bit more than Chloe in terms of getting used before people get back together with their ex. I also liked how this slowed the pace a little bit more, making it a bit of a slow burn.
This is a cute, fluffy romance that will make you grit your teeth and swoon within the same chapter. Parts of this book are absolutely tragic, creating a depth to this novel that draws you in and makes you want to finish it as soon as possible so you can find out how everything works out between Chloe and Daniel! ( I literally could not sleep until I knew they were endgame )
I would 100% recommend this to friends and family with common interests. Thank you for the opportunity!

We’re SO glad you’ve been loving Hiding Places by @ejpost ✨ We feel the same 😉 Our fingers might have cramped up approving such a wild number of arc requests, but we’re SO EXCITED to hear what you all think. If you haven’t submitted your review yet, here’s your reminder!! and if you haven’t requested your arc yet? What are you even doing? Book deets: When fatal gunshots ring out at a restaurant in Chicago, Ellie, an ER physician assistant, becomes the unwitting hero in a national tragedy. Forced to make an impossible choice, she saves the life of a stranger—and loses her husband all in the same breath. The investigation takes a drastic turn when Ellie’s haunting past is thrust into the relentless scrutiny of the media, leaving her ensnared in the twisted web of the broken American legal and medical systems. Ellie unravels in her immeasurable grief and anger, anchored only by the unlikely companionship of the man she saved at the diner, James. Her journey unveils the painful reality of hidden wounds in a world determined to keep skeletons buried. As she learns to cope with this new reality, Ellie is dragged through a sensationalized trial where she stumbles upon a discovery that is hard to swallow: she has more in common with the gunman than she ever thought possible. Posted @withregram • @miahopkinsxoxo TANKED is still available to request on @netgalley. Link in bio. Thank you so much the review, Justine! 💖 Posted @withregram • @justinejustreads I've been searching for this kind of romance lately and @miahopkinsxoxo delivered. Realistic characters, gritty from life but not closed off...dealing with real issues plus a ton of spice. For real. There is a several pages long scene of dirty talking and it was hot. So hot. It's going to live in my mind for a while, I can tell. When I was first reading and realised this was set during the pandemic, I wondered how I would feel about those details. I was surprised that it only added a healthy dose of realism to the story. Perhaps it was conforting to know that these characters would get their happy ending, despite the hardships of the time frame. It was interesting to see the details about life during Covid on the page. I've wondered lately if romance authors would overlook the last two years because readers might feel too traumatised to see it in books. For Angel and Deanna, instant lust and attraction happened before anything else, but in their second chance they were able to build upon their chemistry with really good communication and support. He is younger than her, but he is wise because of his past. He proves to her he can be solid, and I love reading that. At the end of the book I felt a sense of hope for second chance meetings and starting again after feeling stagnant. Perhaps people really do come into our lives at the right time. 5 stars. I'll be reading this author's backlist as soon as I'm able to. Tanked will be available April 26th.

🐉RATING: 🔥🔥🔥🔥/5 🎉Happy book birthday to Hannah Whitten and The Foxglove King! The Foxglove King is full of mythology and court intrigue. Caught in the middle are the three main characters - Lore, Gabriel, and Bastian. Lore grew up working for her mothers as a poison runner and spy. Gabriel is a member of the Presque Mort, an elite cadre of monks protecting the kingdom. Bastian is the Sun Prince, a charming rogue set to inherit the throne. None of them can fully trust the others as they work together to uncover the King’s plans and stay alive. While not a fan of love triangles, I did like the three main characters and all their smoldering desire. I enjoyed how they were caught up in the power plays of church and state. They knew they were being used as pawns, but fought against their manipulation. All this maneuvering is set against a dark world with catacombs, necromancy, mysterious deaths, and a burried goddess leaking deadly “Mortem.” This is the first book in a new series, but the plot lines wrap-up enough at the end to give the reader some satisfaction. I am curious about how the relationships will play out in the next book. I expect there will be more secret maneuvering and a greater focus on the theme of destiny vs. free will. I also hope the world building expands. The threat of war is ever present in The Foxglove King, so perhaps we will learn more about the neighboring kingdom, its rulers and mythology. I’m definitely on board to continue reading this series, and eager to see how the story plays out. This eARC was provided by @orbitbooks_us and @netgalley for review. #thefoxgloveking #hannahwhitten #fantasybooks #fantasyseries #lovetriangle #bookreview #bookrecommendations #netgalleyreads #netgalleyreview #arcreview #bookdragon #readersofinstagram #bookstagram https://www.instagram.com/p/CpfDmc5hqDS/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

🐉 Do you like books about dragons? What type of story with them do you prefer? Dragonfall by L. R. Lam for sure was a ride. I'm surprised how much I was engaged by it even though it didn't feel like my type of book. Dragonfall follows two main characters. Everen is the first male dragon in ages who is destined to save his race. Arcady is a genderfluid thief whose dark heritage secrets can bring a painful death. A chance brings them together and they don't have any options other than to cooperate, but they both, of course, have a hidden agenda. Dragonfall is promoted as an adult fantasy, but for me, it felt rather YA. The difference is for sure blurred, but our main characters are rather young(and both describe themselves as barely adults) and the feeling of the plot and characters gave me distinct YA vibes. What I liked about this book: • Character dynamics. It was written well, and the tension between our characters was real. There was an enemies/lovers aspect and it worked. • The plot was interesting and I was always curious about what was next. Especially, I liked the heist part, who doesn't enjoy a good heist? • The concept and the idea of the world, the history of dragons and humans, the political, social, and religious aspects were nicely developed as well. What didn't work for me: • Characters. I'm just a little bit tired of edgy and prickly never trusting characters. I won't say they didn't have their reasons, I've just read too many such books and it didn't feel too deep for me. • Some writing aspects. The book has a lot of info-dumbs(especially the initial part), but still, some things were rather confusing. And at some moments in the book, I wasn't sure I fully understood what was going on. The ending was partly open but satisfying. Honestly, I'm rather eager to read the next book. Considering the first book hasn't been released yet, it's a lot of waiting for me. And my final rating for this book is 3.75/5. I'm grateful to Netgalley and DAW for providing me with this advanced reading copy in exchange for my honest review. #dragonfall #lrlam #netgalleyreview https://www.instagram.com/p/CpsBHbSrUUj/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

#NetGalleyReview #DontThinkDear By: @alicelrobb The book “Don’t Think, Dear” tells about a former ballet dancer who started her journey to ballet and later quit. Alice Robb wrote this book as a way to go on a journey on writing stories about other famous ballet dancers. These dancers have to live through their lives during ballet. In addition, the book also talks about the challenges of being a ballet dancer such as losing weight, having toes pointed and other things. It's an incredible reading about the life as a ballet dancer. Thanks to the publishers Mariner Books and @netgalley for allowing me to read this book in order for a review. https://www.instagram.com/p/CoLpL9jsxac/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Happy Friday! . When reviewing a physical book, do you… 📚Mark important passages and names somehow that makes it easy to go back to? 📚 Take notes along the way? 📚 Just write from memory? . I use little post it tags: one color for names, one for important info like setting, etc., one for pivotal plot points, and one for quotes. Then when I’m done, I can remove them without damaging the book. . I read Ordinary Monsters both from a physical book and from a digital copy- so some notes were taken inside the Kindle app and others were marked on the physical one. I hear the audio book option is very good too but I guess that would require notes. . . . . #ordinarymonsters #jmmiro #flatironbooks #allthebooksjune22 #audiobook #bookreview #takingnotes #preparingreview #netgalley #netgalleyreads #netgalleyreview #netgalleyarc #netgalleyreader #arc #advancedreaderscopy #advancedreadercopy #tessatalksbooks #bookblogger #bookbloggersofinstagram #bookbloggerlife #bookbloggersofig #bookbloggershub #bookandflowers #bookandflower #bookdragon #fantasyfridays #fantasyfriday #epicfantasy #fantasybooks #fantasyworld (at Lake Davidson) https://www.instagram.com/p/CeWAOIKrxLf/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

When Abby discovers her husband has an eight-year-old son from an old affair. Devastated, she leaves to stay with her grandmother. When Abby meets Daniel, a photographer and decides to travel to Europe with him she starts to imagine a life without a controlling and unfaithful husband. Empowered by a newfound sense of freedom and courage, Abby returns to St. Augustine to settle things with her husband. But nothing goes as planned, and what awaits may very well destroy her. All the Salt in the Sea by Tammy L. Harrow Release Date 1/11/22 by Red Adept A fast paced chilling read! I couldn't put it down! I had to know what Abby would do or decide next! But also to see her character grow and become more confident in who she is and what she deserves! The author masterfully weaves a twisted tale of control and abuse in a marriage. The descriptions of the different places she travels with Daniel are absolutely beautiful! Great book! Thanks for the lovely review...and a picture of the beach! #Repost @bookrecsbymel ... Review- Happy pub day to A Delicious Dilemma by @serataino 💕 Thank you @harlequinbooks & @serataino for this gifted E-ARC. Warning!!! this book will 100% make you hungry. The description of Puerto Rican food will have you drooling! This book was super cute. It’s like an Insta love mixed with one sided enemies to lovers. Val and Phillip meet one night and click instantly. Val shares with Philip her dislike of the companies buying out buildings in her community and gentrifying it and of course Philip is the son of this company! I really enjoyed that Philip didn’t mislead her for too long. He knew it was wrong and didn’t let things get far between them before telling her the truth. I loved Val’s love and dedication to her family and restaurant. Initially, I didn’t fully feel the Insta love between these two but by the end I was swooning over their relationship! This book has one open door steamy scene that’s not super descriptive, so I think you will enjoy this if you enjoy closed door romances. CW: infidelity (not between main characters) parent death Overall this book warmed my heart. The family dynamics and the way the relationship between Val and Philip blossom at the end, did things to my heart. 🌟 ARC copy Book Review 🌟 Let’s start with a big thank you to Macmillan Audio productions, Minotaur Books and Netgalley for a free audiobook in exchange for an honest review. I am sure all the readers and reviewers fraternity love audiobooks but one thing which scares me is when a book involves multitude of characters. These characters need individual voices to help us differentiate and help us invest in these graphs. Huge credit to the narrator Clare Corbett and author Sandie Jones for giving each character an individuality- loved Ali- more about her shortly. The Agatha Christisque environment set up is pitch perfect as well. So the story in brief, couples Rachel and Jack. Paige and Noah head to Jack’s brother, Will’s and fiancé Ali (Jack’s ex- employee) destination wedding in Portugal. Things start getting weird as the book moves between each individual’s grey past and more secrets keep getting unearthed leading to an explosive climax. Although the book has been categorised as a mystery/thriller, it’s borderline domestic drama with a thriller element towards the final stretch. Credit to the author, the drama doesn’t drag, rather keeps you engaged as every chapter had a new twist coming. The whole story is narrated through Rachel’s viewpoint so the readers keep going through the same turmoil of judging the other characters and then feeling stupid for gaging someone just based on their outward attitude. That’s precisely why Ali was such a fascinating character and the evolution of the character (shoutout to the narrator) leaves you wanting more. So overall, the book works great as a domestic drama- not a huge fan of the thriller touch at the end. A Thoroughly Enjoyable experience ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ #bookrecommendations #bookstagram #bookreview #arcbookreview #theguilttrip #sandiejones #audiobookstagram #audiobookreview #macmillanaudio #netgalleyreview #netgalley #booknerd #booklover #bookphotography #clarecorbett https://www.instagram.com/p/CSxZJ2XB4BT/?utm_medium=tumblr
