Homophobia and transphobia is not "old school" witchcraft
Today on Facebook someone told me a story of how he tried to join a coven of magical practitioners in the 1990s only for the "High Priestess" (I'm putting that in quotations for a reason) told him that because he was a gay man he was outside the cycle of creation since gay men don't have children. She would not let him join her coven. Let me point-blank tell you this. That "High Priest' is no High priest of any real Occult practice. Lots of people like to use "Traditional" or "old school" as an excuse to exclude trans women or gay men from the "Eternal feminine" or other magical practices and concepts. I do not know what kind of coven this is so I'll be covering both Wicca and Hecate-based Neo Paganism in this rant. In the 1990s Wiccan books offered same-sex marriage ceremonies. And LGBTQAI+ magical practitioners aren't something new and "invented" recently. In the fifteenth century there was Doktor Johann Georg Faustus, the basis for the Faust legend. This is a sorcerer from German legend and at least two works of classic literature. The historic version was banished from Ingolstadt University for practicing black magick (N--romancy which would probably be Noirmancy today since though that first half of the word does mean black but is deemed offensive). And he was also banished for being a "S-d-mite" (and old impolite word for being a gay man). As far as i know no one ever questioned his credentials as a magical practitioner. Also would this "High Priestess" also say that those who are infertile, or women past menopause are outside of the cycle of creation? How about a happily married straight practitioner who just chooses to not have children? The excuses that would leave out gay men or transwomen would also leave out a LOT of cis / het women just for not being baby factories. How misogynist can you get? if you think the womb is the extent of what "eternal feminine" means you are no witch or feminist. The thing about Neo-Paganism is the neo part. Neo means new. Wicca is not the only religion cobbled together from remnants of pre-Christian faiths. Most Neo-Paganism was (whether people want to face it or not) invented in the nineteenth century. A lot of the old beliefs and practices were lost. Also I find it baffling that anyone could accept a possible "High Priestess of Hecate" (I assume that's the deity this "High Priestess" worshiped) as being anti-gay. Let's step back and look at the obvious problem here. Someone who worships a GREEK deity being anti-gay. Did... did this "high priestess" think the Ancient Greeks were anti-gay? Do I need to point out what's wrong with this idea? If you stumble across any occult practitioner who claims being LGBTQAI+ means you cannot be a part of their coven or you can't use magick, that is no true High Priestess of anything. That's just a mean girl with a clique trying to reclaim the cruelties of exclusionary factions in High School and giving herself a power trip while possibly offending multiple entities. Real magick is natural as the way you are born. Real magick has always been inclusive. If someone says you are unworthy because of what you are... that person is no true High Priestess and is the truly unworthy person. End of rant.

⋆˖⁺‧₊☽ Welcome to my page, where I share my journey as a neo-pagan of mixed heritage ☾₊‧⁺˖⋆
⋆˖⁺ Hi, my name is Maddhi (short for Madhuri), and my pronouns are she/they. I am a college student who loves exploring different aspects of magic and spirituality. I have been a pagan for about ten years, but I had a hiatus due to some personal issues. Now I am back on track, and I want to reconnect with myself and my Irish and Desi cultures in a way that makes sense to me.
My main areas of interest are deity work and divination. I used to worship the Horned God and the Triple Goddess, but lately I have felt a strong bond with Kali Ma, the fierce Hindu goddess of destruction and rebirth. I am also looking for a Celtic deity to represent my Irish side, and I hope to learn more about them as I go along. I identify as a neo-pagan with wiccan practices, because I like to blend different traditions and create my own path.
My goal with this blog is to create a digital archive of my book of shadows, where I document my rituals, spells, experiences, and insights. I also want to research ways to worship my deities, and find out more about the Celtic and Hindu pantheons. My intended audience is anyone who wants to connect with their mixed roots through neo-paganism and wicca, or anyone who is curious about these topics.
I hope you enjoy my posts, and feel free to message me if you have any questions or comments. Blessed be. ⁺˖⋆

I’m thinking about changing the name of the Sabbat Candles/Sabbat Collection.
The candles/melts/oils in the collection are all based around the WOTY holidays. I don’t ascribe to the WOTY personally, I celebrate Yule, Samhain, Lughnasadh, and Bealtaine, and acknowledge the equinoxes.
However, I know that a lot of people that aren’t Wiccan still use the WOTY, so I include all the festivals. However. I’ve never been particularly comfortable using the term “sabbat” and was wondering how people would feel if I changed the name of the collection. I’m not sure what the new name will be, perhaps something with the word “festival” in it.
Right now, I’m looking for opinions on me changing the name as a whole.

Witches Then and Now
From ancient cultures, to the witch trails of Salem, to modern-day Wicca, witches have stayed in popular culture.
Stores have been full of Halloween things since late summer. If you see a display, no doubt there will be a few witches in the mix. It all seems very silly and most people don’t take it seriously, but there are two witch-related things that are taken seriously. One of those instances goes back to early 1692 when a small group of girls in Salem Village, Massachusetts began convulsing, screaming,…

pagan-revival, notes
Pagan elder here, gathering scraps and memories of the early pagan revival. The idea is to avoid the usual narrative. It was a time of youthful awakenings, feminist activism, and eclectic spiritual exploration. I hope to gather the threads and document aspects of the seminal time that have already become forgotten, dismissed and discarded.  #rowegreentree

Sometimes I think Wizards of the coast has no idea what they're doing...
They've decided to remove "witch" from things like Magic: The Gathering playing cards. And they are considering removing "Druid" and "Shaman" for the same reasons. The reason... They don't want to accidentally offend Wiccans and Neo-Pagans. And some people identify as "witch" for religious reasons.
Many Wiccans do use the term witch to mean "one who is enlightened." as the origin of the word comes from having your wits.
In fact Wicca (pronounced as Witch-a in Old English) was the masculine variation of the term, Wicce bein the feminine and witch being unisex.
But as with Fantasy dwarfs and little people who have the medical condition of dwarfism, we know the difference between the fantasy version and the real world.
I don't know of any Wiccan or Neo-Pagan offended by "witch" or "Druid" in fantasy literature or games.
It's not the same thing.
Also there seems to be some cognitive dissonance since the company is called Wizards of The Coast. Wizard comes from the same etymological root origin as Witch as it came from being "wise" or "wizened."
Also weird to announce this in October, the season where there are so many fantasy witches on display. It's almost like this was a publicity stunt to see if anyone would get angry at their misguided attempt at "sensitivity" gone to ridiculous lengths.

I love that Celtic mythology and paganism are open but I implore people to pleeeease learn from actual Irish people teaching the culture and remember that these are still indigenous practices that have been nearly erased by colonialism.
